Do other solos avoid staying on first floor in resorts?

I've traveled solo to WDW 5 times, and I'm perfectly comfortable unless I'm assigned a first floor room. I didn't realize how much this bothered me until a few years ago, when I was given a first floor room, and went back to the desk after 15 minutes to move. Now, if I'm assigned one, I'll refuse it-so far successfully. But I'm afraid the day's going to come when, even though I always request an upper floor on my ressie, that I'll be given first floor and be told there are no other rooms. Are there any other solos as "hung up" on this as me? I'd really like to hear from some other solos who've stayed in a first floor room, slept well, and lived to tell about it! The little things we let bother us!

I've gone solo twice now, but with my crazy resort switching, that means I've had something like seven different rooms solo ;) I've actually never worried about what floor I'm on. Do you feel like it's a safety issue being at ground level? I kind of like it because then you don't have to deal with stairs or elevators when you're tired after a long day, or trasporting baggage.

When I bought my condo I refused to buy a bigger one on the first floor, but at WDW I don't worry much about it. I won't be there longer than a week or so. I've stayed at POR and OKW first floor and didn't worry about it much. Didn't sleep much at POR, but not because I was worried about the room location. It was because I could hear all the turbo toilets going off in the rooms around me. I had a permanent 7 AM wakeup call because that was when everybody seemed to get up and start flushing. I try to get an upper floor room for that reason.

I've stayed on both the 1st and second floors at different resorts on my solo trips to WDW. My most recent stay at the Polynesian was a 1st floor room in the Tokelau building and the view was amazing! I make sure that the door's are always locked and feel just as safe on the 1st floor, as I would on any other floor.

First floor at POR was perfectly fine.

First floor with a sliding glass patio door would make me feel not completely safe. I would probably ask for another room, and let them know I feel insecure with it.

Half of this coming Dec. vacation will be at The Boardwalk one bedroom villas.
I requested top floor because of that first floor insecurity, and because I don't want to hear kids running above me.

Without sounding arrogant, I'd probably stay Concierge if I ever went solo again (I havent since 2000) that would alleviate all of your security, view and room concerns.

I stayed on 1st floor rooms solo in POR and POFQ. I never minded at all - seemed easier to get the luggage to the room. But I once had the opposite problem - I stayed at Coranado Springs, on the 4th floor of Casita 3 overlooking the parking lot, and I felt too far "out in the boonies" there. I hardly ever saw another soul walk by, and felt a tad isolated there. I think I rather be on the 1st floor after that! :)

But offsite, I hate having a 1st floor room solo. I stayed at a Hampton Inn near Disney and had a 1st floor room on the back side of the building, and that made me nervous. Off-site I will now request 2nd floor for now on!

I've traveled a lot on business and never stay on the first floor.

But on my solo trips to Disney, I don't worry at all about staying on the first floor. I feel safe there. :)
