A DISCUSSION FORUM or a SUPPORT GROUP?
:confused::confused: :confused:

I find it to be both. Lots of support from 'friends' and lots of discussion too. I think there is even more to it than that but that wasn't part of the question, huh?:p
So, you would like it to be more discussion/less support? While it seems to go in waves, some days there seems to more going on in our lives as a group that we need support than other days. I think it is great to come here and ask for it because there is always a 'friend' here who will support you.

Without a doubt, it is both.
Lately, it is also a place to learn patience with all the strange charatcers >1 and code that we see and the multiple it times it takes to refresh pages.

It's both. I know I've needed it to be both many times in my life. Now my question to you, JTB, is that a

Its both a discussion forum and a support group.
Its also a floor wax and a great tasting desert topping
(I wonder how many people here will be able to remember back into the 70's to get that joke).
I agree that the boards are both also but I think the ratio of discussion threads to support threads varies according to what is going on in the world at that time. Usually it's more discussion but in times of crisis it seems to become more support. Whatever it is it seems to work for a lot of people.
Ditto what Blondie said. This is also a place to find out the latest news--many times when something happens in the world, I hear about it on the CB first, before I get a "breaking news" e-mail from our local station.

Of course, it is a DISCUSSION forum . . . as long as we all send pixie dust, pray, exchange candles/key chains/t-shirts/tea towels, cheer for the Swan-Dophin, drink WDW water, go YA-YA'ing, associate one words, share pictures, sing Christian songs, boast about the accomplishments of our offspring, and talk about Survivor/Bachelor/soap operas . . .
However, we must not have strong opinions, we must not violate "rules", we must not call DIS'ers "bloodthristy", we must not insinuate that DIS'ers might be evil, we must not call DIS'ers braggerts, and we must not USE BIG LETTERS .
Oh, and we must not piss off Webmasters . . .

I think you can have strong opinions here--I just think you have to be respectful about it. Breaking the rules? Well, since I have been here I have always heard "Pete's house, Pete's rules." I like rules and limits, actually. :) I guess we shouldn't call each other any 'bad' names--no one likes to be lumped into a group. So yeah, we probably shouldn't call one another blood thristy. I don't think there is anyone I have met here that I think is 'evil'--of course, I do think someone like Saddam is evil & no one seems to be like that around here. I think it is great to share our children's accomplishments here or our own little joys in this life. We're friends and usually friends like when things are going well for one another. Big letters? I haven't figured out how to make them that big...but I hear that means one is shouting on the Internet & is usually not well received.
Somewhere around here I learned that it is better to piss someone off than piss on them...or something like that. ;)

In answer to JTB's original post--I think it is whatever you want/need it to be. Sometimes it is a discussion, sometimes it is a support group, and sometimes it is just a place to come and be goofy (as opposed to Goofy). I mean, it is a Disney site first and foremost, for goodness' sake, and I think most of us come her to be entertained, and not debate the meaning of life, or Man's inhumanity to man. I'm sure there are sites out there that you can do that on, but I don't care to.
That being said, I agree with Robinrs 100%. No one is forcing anyone who does not want to be here to stay. At least I don't think they are.
JMHO--carry on with your regularly scheduled DISsing.

When someone uses big letters and loud speech to belittle, berate, or denigrate, the content of the words is lost. It's no longer a discussion OR a support group.
I love strong opinions. I love discussions. I love support. All of it can be on the CB if we just respect others' needs to talk.....whether we agree with them or not.
There's a mature and honest way to disagree with anything and everything......

Geez Deb, should I be pissed off at that comment? :p
And Brenda, thank you....thank you very much. ;)
Strong opinions are welcome here, many have them and express appropriately. But ditto to what gina said........and what Blondie said..... I have no opinions of my own, I just ditto what others say. ;) :p ;) :p
I am happy that the CB can be a source of support because that is an important part of any community. But I also enjoy discussions (esp those that don't have to end up on the DB) because I enjoy reading others' opinons without it turning into a debate. You don't have to MAKE someone accept your side, it's fine to have differing opinions. I have changed my mind on some topics just by reading other posts because they may have brought up points that I had not thought of or did not know about. But I don't hold it against others who don't agree with me. Everyone is entitles to their own opinion and viva la difference!
What was the question??  :p

If you got to know me, Deb, I bet you'd like me!;) Yes, I am a YaYa and a Survivor fan- but I also unbutton my pants after dinner, do a little cussing, embarrass my kids, and sometimes I even write risque posts that have been deleted!
Was going to give you a little PD - but now I'm too skeered to!!:o

This post reminds me of work.............. we work for a company that treats us fairly, we're employed and the money they make is up to them. Yet there are a few who all they want to do is complain. I don't think I've ever heard a positive word about the company out of a couple of their mouths. They are the biggest bmw men I've ever seen! :D (And if you don't know what bmw means......well it doesn't stand for a car) ;)
Since I'm their manager I finally told them they have 3 options.
1 Complain
2 Do something about it
3 Move on
I told them number 1 was no longer an option. If they wanted to do something to try to instigate changes, I'd be glad to help. Or they could get over it and move on.
**if you're curious...........they're still complaining but they'll be complaining their way out of a job shortly.
(And if you don't know what bmw means......well it doesn't stand for a car)
Oooh, Oooh! Pam raises her hand!! Nicole, I don't know what bmw stands for (and I even watch MTV   )
I'm being serious here - would you PM me and let me know what it means - now I am all curious and trying out all kinds of dirty and nasty thoughts in my head.:( And I was trying to give those up for Lent.:(
