I'm passing the time by starting to pack, although I'm pretending that I'm not really doing that (dh is very excited, but even he thinks it's a little weird to start so soon...). I am quite pleased to realize that 3 pairs of shoes should do it for me. I found matching shirts for both boys (Lands End oxford stripe for $7.50 each at Sears!!); dh has one like theirs, so I am dreaming of a great photo of the three of them together on semi-formal night :D
One of our favorite CDs is called "Philadelphia Chickens" (I know, weird title, but great music and lyrics); it's a collection of fabulous songs by Sandra Boynton. On it, there's a song called "Pig Island" that is my current image of Castaway Cay  If you want to hear it, this link will take you to a page for the entire CD; scroll down a bit to #17 and play!
http://www.boyntonfordmusic.com/Listen%20to%20Chickens%20&%20Rhino.htm
BTW, if you don't have RealPlayer or can't get it to work, the link from that page will download it free (takes several minutes, but then it's done). Well worth a listen for those of us trying to pass the days!

Does anyone know where you can have those door magnet signs made? Office Depot? Let me know, if you have any ideas.

Magicboundagain4 -
For the door magnets, you can purchase the magnet sheet at Office Depot (or Office Max, Staples, etc.). You can then create something on your computer and print it on the magnetic sheet, just like printing any other document. Some of the kits that I've seen have adhesive paper that goes through the printer and then you stick it to the magnet piece.
Either way, it will be personalized!

Philadelphia Chickens CD is in our Suburban in the player most of the time!! When we first got it the kids made me play track 3 (Philadelphia Chickens song) over and over again. I think Pig Island is an adorable song, as is the one about all the animals named "Bob". My kids have me skip over the lady throwing a temper tantrum song though........Happy packing :)

Oh no, no docs, I our TA is leaving on a cruise this Thursday. Oh well. I do know our docs go to her first then either Dave will go get them or she will drop them off at our house. It isn't like I haven't cruised before but you know, getting those docs still get us excited about the trip! That feeling never goes away.
As far as packing, we unpacked from our cruise after Christmas but the suitcases never made it back into storage:D . Our bedroom looks like I am in the middle of packing for a trip and it has looked liked that since Jan 4. Well, I am ready! I want to go now. It is another below zero night. Not to mention I am tired of looking at snow. Looking forward to our wonderful cruise. Kathy

I think I decided on my last cruise that DVC takes it own sweet time getting docs out.......so I wait.

We chose late seating for this cruise. We have been on 4 DCL cruises. The first couple, we requested first seating and I always felt rushed trying to get ready for dinner - especially if we were trying to get there for pictures first! During the shows, I found myself almost dozing off - full belly and all.
The last couple cruises we opted for late seating and found it worked better for us. The early show doesn't start till 6:30 whereas early dinner starts at 6:00, so we have a little more time to get ready. And if push comes to shove, you could go to the show and then change before dinner as there is about an hour between the show and dinner. That hour is a great time for shopping, viewing pictures at Shutters, or getting our pics before dinner.

My AAA travel agents tells me that I won't be getter ours for a while yet. Is this standard through travel agents. I probably should have left my ressie with DCL itself. But the 4 beverage mugs seemed to be such a perk. We still use the one that we bought on our last trip.

We have early seating. It was hard to decide which seating to get. Pros and cons either way from what I have read. I decided I would rather have them fall asleep during the show than dinner. Once they are done eating they can go play at the clubs if they want (it will be early enough in the evening that they should still have energy for that). My kids tend to want mommy if they are sleepy. Not very long until I find out if I made the right choice :boat:

We still do not have our docs yet. We just joined DVC because we wanted to go on the cruise. I told my DH that I would love to go on the Disney Cruise, I thought he would say "Yeah Right" with that eyebrow thing going on, but he said "It makes more sense to join DVC and do something Disney every year!!" Well Disney..........???
I am so bummed out and it is snowing again in Minnesota...
I would love to do the Doc Dance with you all.
BTW we have late seating not by choice at first, but now I feel it is the better way to go after reading the boards.
One more thing, this is (I think) my seventh cruise and my husband has always brought and worn his Tux. This time he said he is not wearing his Tux, that one of his new suits is better than any old Tux. What is up with that???

It's changed, Thanks for the tip. I thought I had to go through my travel agent. DCL had originally told me several months ago that any changes had to be made through AAA who booked us. Hearing that the cruise is sold out is not necessarily good news to my ears. We are still hoping that our 12 year and 10 month old daughter will be able to get bumped up into the teen club. They told me that it just depends on how many teens actually register for the club.
The gal I spoke with told me that I might want to reconsider as their may be 17 yo boys in the club and if she is only 12.10 she may not be comfortable. Then I started to be really be concerned about our decision to cruise Disney again. I hope she can get in because at 10 yo she HATED the Oceaneers Lab. She is very mature for her age.
So, I guess if an older teen isn't sure they are going to be spending time in the club they shouldn't registered so that others can be moved.
Of course my kids promise that they will keep each other company and that mom and dad will get some quiet time. We shall see..... AND it won't be long.

02-12-2004, 09:12 AM
Dawn,
My son ( 1 week away from turning 13 on the cruise) will be in the teen group, as he refuses to consider the LAB again. My fear is that he will be too young to fit in and will be wandering the ship for the week.
I didn't know that some of the 12 year olds could get bumped up. I would feel better if he could have some 12 year old at the Teen club with him..then he might fit in more.
My 10 yo has informed us that the only time he is going to the lab is when they will be in the stack.. other than that, he wants to hang at the sports deck...
Whatever, we will be on the cruise, no snow, someone else will cook the meals and serve me.. life is good.. the kids will figure out what they are doing .

Hi Laurie:
I just read your question about traveling with 4 kids. You already know this but be organized but don't organize every moment. Last cruise they were in and out the door at different times very fast and then they were gone. The older two were hard to get to eat with us at night....but they had a ball. One thing I am glad I did and it wasn't cheap but it alleviated one or two problems and made my week a vacation as well. I sent all dirty laundry out each and every morning and let Disney wash it instead of myself standing in the laundry room on my vacation. It was one of the best things I did.
You know there will be fights....but just have fun ...I would leave notes in the room where the boys could check in with me, they would know where to find me then they would tell me where they were off to. With the pagers the girls could be with me or in the club and I would come when ever they wanted to leave. I know I have lots of other ideas....but it would take hours.
PM me sometime I will try and get back to you sooner. I promise.

Susan,
I wish Amanda wasn't so busy with Basketball and gymnastics I'd like the kids to chat. On our last cruise I had introduced each of the kids to a child of their own age and we met upon boarding and they were inseparable from then on. Amanda isn't in to doing girl things so maybe they can get together and play basketball all week. Now, my son who will be 16 within 15 days of the cruise informs me that HIS SISTER will go into the teen club. ONLY because he doesn't want to lose anytime there. He is a 13 yo at heart.
I am also ready to get out of the cold it is only 15 degree here at the moment.

I think it is a $1 to wash at least $1 to dry if not more.
They dry slowly. Packing extra hangers isn't such a bad idea; especially wire.
For memory cards it depends on the size of the picture as to how many pictures you can get on a card. If you are like me I took over 350 pictures last summer on vacation. I take pictures of everything. I don't necessarily print them anymore; I love to have my screen saver go through the pictures in my folders. I can get lost in the memories flashing by. DH will be taking his laptop for downloading. FYI you can by memory cards in the shops on the islands for cheap.
I was looking at pictures from the last cruise and realized I hadn't packed my battery alarm clock. So I put a little more in my suitcase last night. We have gone from one suitcase to three... ARGH. One will just be for DD and my dresses.

I don't know if everyones digital camera comes with the cables to hook up to the TV, but we have found when we want to save some memory we review the day's pictures on TV and delete the ones that are not perfect.
By the way, do the TVs in the staterooms have the composit video inputs? I hope so, otherwise we will be buying some more memory or bringing the laptop!

I can get about 100 pic's per card with max megapixils.. so that is 300 pic's.... I did remember extra hangers, and now I know to bring about $5 or so in qtrs, plus clothes pins..

#6!!! That is a wonderful thought :Pinkbounc
For all of you taking digital cameras (like us), don't forget your battery chargers. We'll probably have 3 sets of batteries plus the charger (which is a quick one). We also will have dh's GPS and one Gameboy that require batteries, but those will have less frequent use than the camera. We usually have a 64 Mb card in our camera and it will hold almost 100 pics; I'm going to switch it out for a 256, bring the 64, and also along an extra 32. I do tend to sit down regularly and delete the bad pics. Additionally, each boy will have his own disposable, which will probably be used up before we've been gone 24 hours, and the Target underwater camera with 4 rolls of film. I tried the latter on our vacation last summer and was pleased with the photos underwater (shallow).

Do you think it is ok to bring the digital camera on the beach at CC?? I am concerned about getting the sand in the camera... Am I being overly crazy??
mobetsy
02-14-2004, 12:29 PM
I have taken mine to the beach before, but I put it in a double ziploc bag and am pretty obsessive about brushing off hands, etc. before pulling it out, then put it right away. In a way, it is probably safer than a good regular camera, as there are fewer moving parts to be damaged by sand. I suppose security might be a bit of an issue. We will have our cheap and waterproof Target one with us as well
Can anyone who has been there before tell me how long it would take to go from the family beach back onto the ship (to return camera to the room, get a forgotten item, whatever)?

I thought of a question....
1. Can you use calling cards from the ship to call home? At no expense to your ship bill?
I think my cell worked, BUT JUST BARELY, while at St. Thomas. We were really high on a mountain in a taxi at the time.

02-16-2004, 11:25 PM
I doubt you will be able to use calling cards on the ship. The service is satellite from what I remember. The internet is the best way of keeping in touch. It works great on DCL ships. Not all lines provide good internet service.
Our cell provider is Verizon and its works great in US ports of call and it is cheaper than using the phone service the ship provides.
When we are in port your calling cards will work from the ports, not the ship. We also have used the internet cafes found in some of the ports. The one in St. Thomas is great and is cheap. I believe the name was Beans, Bytes and Websites. They had great coffee also.
It is getting so close!!! Finally had our daughter try on her summer clothes and I have to buy all new. All are ordered today. I still need to get her shoes. The only thing left is to pack up the bags.
Now if we only had ours docks:(. Oh well, they will get here. Our TA is still on her cruise.

Hi Everyone,
I am getting excited. I have the shoe bag for over the door and I read on the boards to put the boys outfits in a plastic bag for less wrinkles and I can hand them a bag and the socks and underwear will be included. They will be ready to go.
My question is that I just got a digital camera for Christmas. This little Canon Elph with really no zoom, but it is small and easy to carry around. I just bought a 256mb flashcard at Costco and wonder how many pictures I can expect to get??
My other question is that I read in one of the Navigators that you can have Shutters download the pictures to CD. I did not hear that anyone actually had this done so do you think it is possible. I only have a 32mb and a 16mb...so any advice?
One more question..what is the kind of underwater camera from Target that you recommend? I thought that was a great idea for the boys at the beach!
My boys are both home today with the flu so maybe they are building up some resistance to the Norwalk Virus for the Cruise. This was the day that I was going to search for their little blue blazers, oh well.....Thank goodness they are not too bad, just tired enough to want to be on the couch, not moving and watching cartoons.
thanks for your help in advance,
Dawn (Counting the days):wave2:

It looks like there is a new DVD version for DCL with new footage of the ship. I ordered it for fun...maybe it will arrive before the cruise, maybe even before my DOCS!!! Here is the link if you like.

The UPS man goes by twice each day and it is all I can do to not wave him down to tell him this is the right place.
I got a new carry on bag with wheels for Valentine's Day so no more giving hubby that look when he forgets to offer to help carry the bag with half of his stuff in it as we run through the airport for a flight that does not leave for over an hour. I don't know why I did not think of this years ago. He is so romantic and smart!

We wanted to stay at the Radisson, but it is actually OVERSOLD for that night, (when I called directly) so if any of you are staying please be sure to get that reservation guaranteed! :) I was told a group of some type was coming in.
We are staying at the Hyatt Airport since we get in around 7:30pm.
We are staying at the Radisson for one night after we get off the ship on Saturday.

I made the reservation on line last year sometime and had written down in my notes to pay on Feb. 18. They took down my credit card info today and gave me a confirmation number. Is that guaranteed enough or should I be worried?
disneylarsen
02-18-2004, 12:20 PM
Strawberryblond,
I would not worry, the hotels generally overbook just like the airlines because they know there will be no-shows. Especially if they are holding rooms for a group. If they do need to turn people away they will usually turn those away first that did not guarantee their rooms and then those that arrive late. If you are getting in late I would just call sometime that day to verify that you will be arrivings after a "certain" time.
Hope that helps.

I wonder if they printed out the docs for the first half of the alphabet first? My last name starts with D and I recieved mine early.
Another reason could be that those who may be getting upgraded get theirs later. I didn't get upgraded and no one else who got their docs mentioned an upgrade either. It is something to hope for as you wait for your docs in the snow :bitelip:

I have not received my docs yet either..........
I booked thru DVC as well as Miss Eeyore (I think ) and when I called DVC the other day the girl was kind of snotty and said that nobody is suppose to receive their docs until 2-3 weeks prior...
This was my first experience with DVC and the first trip that I booked as a new member and they did not seem all that friendly.
Oh well, I could just be crabby because I can't find my passport and I have to send for a new birth certificate and pray that I get it back from Wisconsin in time.
Please tell me that I will not be held up in any lines with only a birth certificate, my husband will never let me live it down. I always misplace things.

Morning everyone.
Our email is down so I am not able to get the posts as they come in. I had to go searching for our link. Good thing the search was working.
I got a call from AAA yesterday... Having already received our documents I figured that it would never hear from them again. February is DISNEY month for our local AAA. They called to say my name had been drawn for the prize for the week. My name was drawn last year and I got a calendar. This week it was an autograph book. Granted we have 3 or 4 of them but they are sending it to my daughter, it will help her be excited.
So we can keep our list at the top, I'm BUMPING!!
Have a great weekend.

We are not DVC members so who knows why ours are late. Last Spring Break we had the same problem. In previous years we had gotten the docs up to 6 weeks before and really nothing is different in our booking we used the same TA, air through DCL, pre-night at the Airport Hyatt, Disney transfers so go figure. Good thing we know what to expect when we get them. Now on our Princess cruise it was different. You fill out the doc information via the internet and when you get the docs, they are ready to go! That was so easy compared to any other line we have been on. Less than one month to go! Kathy

Exactly four weeks from this moment we will be boarding "wing and a prayer" airline for our short hop up to Seattle, and our flight to Orlando. It is about the only thing keeping me going right now.
Our lives are a bit rocky right now....especially for my dear husband. He is the one who really needs the trip. And I know that a cruise is just what he needs....the absolute ability to relax. He had a terrible tragedy at school this week......one of his wrestling coaches died in his arms......victime to a sudden vascular accident......and this guy is two years younger than we are! So the sschool and especially the wrestlers are so upset.
So we are dreaming of sky blue Carribbean seas.

One more Saturday down....only 3 more after this weekend that are leaving Port without all of us onboard. My packing pile is getting bigger and taller....oooooh I can't wait to start putting all of it into bags and then closing them up.
My youngest two are getting more and more excited....they think they can't wait much longer. All 4 kids and my husband have begun talking about all of the food, and the specific food items they are most looking forward too. The girls are anxious for the smoothies. Isaac and Jacob's favs are the pizza. They hung around and ate pizza at all hours last trip......with my 4 kids and husband I know that I get my moneys worth just in food alone....The quantity of food they consume is unreal....so watch out if you are behind this family in the buffet line....they don't leave much food in their wake. Heck, I am just going to apologize right now....the food areas are about the only place you will see this family.
My DH, Bob is 6'8" (you can't miss him) and this is his first cruise. I know he is not as excited as the rest of us...but one of his friends just told him that a vacation spent eating and chewing and eating and chewing is incredible ....and I think secretly now that one of his friends told him it was cool...now he too has begun to get excited.....about the food! The more he hears all the kids talking about the things they are looking forward to (besides the food) I think he too is getting anxious.
All I know is 2003 was a busy busy year with lots of work and not enough play....and I need a MAGIC BREAK!!!!!

Not packing yet, but I've started to organize a bit. A friend once gave me a darling hawaiian=print soft backpack....just fabric, not heavy duty. But its great to bring the book, sunscreen, pop can, drink mug, etc. to the pool. So I'm starting to put in there all the "stuff" I'm getting ready and don't want to forget....the address labels, the new baggage tags, the trading pins, etc. I've also got out the file folder with all the travel details, will put docs there when they FINALLY arrive....etc.
So I am happily passing the time. I've been scrapbooking my previous DCL cruises too.
The time will pass I know.
We're also busy arranging an Alaskan cruise this summer.....we love that itinerary, now if only DCL would cruise it! But we are happy on Princess too.
The memorial for the wr4stling coach is at the school this week, so hopefuolly Kent can move on from there. Since we are so new here, Kent just started as administrator at this school this school year, he didn't know the guy all that well. I think what was the biggest shock was having it happen right there, within his touch....and also having the guy be younger than we are! It was a sobering reminder of our mortality. We have hit the gym more diligently, I'll tell you.

dvcmomdeh, Hi Dawn, I keep forgetting to ask, do you work for Pudue Univ.? My sister used to work their and now she teaches German at the Catholic high school in Lafayette. Her husband works for Lilly in research. He has a PHD in Chem. It is such a small world maybe you two know each other. Our first TA for our Disney cruises was Larry Vander--something. I can't remember his whole name but he is retired now. Yes, I used a Lafayette TA while living in Des Moines. Now we use our friend. If she quits we will use Dreams. Kathy

I have worked at Purdue for nearly 21 years now. I started as a child I think :) It was supposed to get me big perks for education for the kids but I think it will be unaffordable even with the discount. Neither of my kids seem to be interested in what Purdue has to offer.

Both are 50 years soon to be 51. My nephew received his undergrad in engineering from Purdue. A friend of mine has a daughter that will soon be graduating from Purdue in Pharmacy. Such a small world.
dvcmomdeh, thanks for the offer but I don't really need anything from my sister. Georgia has lived in Lafayette and now West Lafayette since Bernie received his PHD from Wisconsin back in 1980 so I have been to your city a lot. It has really grown since they first moved to Indiana. The job she had at Purdue had something to do with the athletic department--she kept track of the athletes education process. I can't remember her title but I do know it was before the current Football coach was hired. She quit when she decided she wanted her summers off. She is also the one who decided to take me on my first cruise since my husband had no desire to go. Well, that was back in 1997 to celebrate my 40th and the rest is history--this March I will have been on 15! Yikes! so many islands and so little money lol. Obviously husband Dave is also hooked.

My friend did get bad lice in Jamaica last April so It does seem to be showing up at different times depending on the location.I havn't ever heard of anyone getting it in March. The Sea safe is easy to find here in FL. Walgreens has it if you have time to shop before the cruise. I don't think you'll need it. As the cruise gets closer I can let you know. They have changed a little over the years which includes the Bahama form. If no passport I put a line through the passport area (our daughter doesn't have one). For how you are arriving, I checked the one that said Discovery Cruises/Ferry/other ship then for arrival date put 3/16/04 and city where boarded vessel--Port Canaveral. I filled in our TA info and intended Stay(nights) as a zero. Trip purpose--I put other. Hope that helps. Kathy

I am thinking that the only time we are in the Bahamas is on CC, s9 I was thinking of using the 26, like you did. I guess all they can do is yank us out of line and make us do it again.

That is correct, we are only in the Bahamas at Castaway Cay. Ever time we go the form is different.

3 weeks from tonight? Hmmm...I'm one of the leaders for a Thursday evening class, but I suspect I'll beg off, and they probably wouldn't want me there anyway as I'm likely to be close to manic  Tossing a few almost last minute things in the suitcases (the real last minute things will be the blankets and stuffed animals the boys will be sleeping with that night!) and going back over the lists again and again. I bet we'll watch the video one last time! No school for the kids the next morning; our flight leaves around 11:30 AM :Pinkbounc

<font color=seagreen>Those pictures were great! I hope mine turn out half as well. I'm starting to feel as though I am not quite ready for the cruise  . How un-dis-like of me, I know  . Me and the kids have been fighting a cough/fever type of thing and it has been raining and cold for days. My DS's 7th birthday party is next weekend so I have switched to getting things done for that (I do it up big, at home, everything homemade and homecrafted.......). We changed our reservations at SOG for before and after the cruise to May as SOG won't be done in March after all. DH already had the leave approved so we are flying to the UK after the cruise to stay with British friends that we miss very much (they were our neighbors when we lived there). He doesn't know if he can get away from work in May so my Mom is joining us for part of it. Meanwhile I am homeschooling my DS............Sounds as though I am complaining. Actually I'm so excited about everything it's just so much all at once. Now I'm off to the car shop to get the brakes worked on. Taking Math for DS and toys for DD.............(I am feeling slightly stressed).......</font>

Only 3 more weeks! I started to organize our packing lists. I filled out the docs. My only disappointment is that we don't arrived in Orlando until 5:00 pm on Friday. Airlines! Not one has an early morning flight out of Des Moines. Very unusual for Spring Break time. We always had flown out of here by 6:00 or 7:00 am. I was counting on relaxing by the Hyatt's pool in the afternoon. We still might if the weather is warm enough. As Dave stated, "we go early to make sure we arrive in time for the cruise--we are and we have great flight times. We leave DM at 10:30 am so no getting up at 3:30 am for a cruise and we go home around 1:00 pm after the cruise." OK, he is right. Those are great travel times. Kathy

I posted this on a thread about jellyfish at CC, but wanted to make sure you all saw it...
If you want a good deal on Safe Sea, and either have a larger family or someone to share with so that ordering 3 bottles (probably for less than 2 at most sites) is reasonable, here's what you can do:
Go to http://www.safesea.net/ Their price is $9.95 per bottle, which is a good price to begin with (most are $12-13). Order 3 bottles. Proceed to checkout. Because you ordered multiple bottles, it will show a discount code that gives you 10% off. Change that code (it's there in a little box on the lower left) to DUMP5. That code gives you $5 off orders over $25 (which yours is, because you got 3 bottles) AND free shipping! As a result, I got 3 bottles (sharing with Cara) for $24.85 incl. shipping ::yes:: Ordering 2 bottles and using the 10% discount (which doesn't include free shipping), the total came to $23.96, so that 3rd bottle is only $.89!

Welcom TeacherLori. I added you to our Unofficial cruise list.
Did we all agree on the DIS meet being right before the sail-away party? Port side above the Goofy pool? Just double checking.
Our Docs are filled out, the Towncar is reserved, we have planned our excursions - beach and jet ski day in St. Maarten (maybe some shopping by me), and at St. Thomas Coralworld or maybe take the ferry over to St. John and of course, relax in the afternoon up on Paradise Point (no shopping in St. Thomas).

I thought I'd better add this, if you want to see pictures of the tecdavidt family go to tecenv.com/thompson and at the top of the page click on the button labeled Cruises. There will be cruises listed and on any of the Magic cruises you will see pictures--some good some not so good. The boys in the pics will not be with us on this cruise. I don't want to jinx anything but what if our dis meet rains out....what is the back up plan. I know I will be wearing my lime green dis shirt and my button with my name but how will I find the rest of you if we have a rain out....not that it will....but just in case. I am just a planner.

How about this for a back up. On the same level as the Goofy pool but under the over hang protection port side. (I like port side because we can watch the activity on the shore as we leave port.) On all of our Magic cruises we haven't had the party rained out yet, knock on wood, but a back up would be good. Kathy

Hi, Lori! We have a son who is 9, and there are a bunch of boys and girls right in this age group who have been posting here; no doubt they will find each other in the Lab
I don't have a lime shirt, but both boys do, and I can probably get them to wear them w/o any problem. In fact, ds#1 wore his to church today and got hot chocolate all over it; I trust it will come clean  He'll be wearing it in any case (btw, I got it at Sears, a Lands End polo shirt, for $2.99 on clearance a few weeks ago, and I know they still have them at our Sears).
Sorry I didn't figure out the tip on the Sea Safe sooner. I got the discount code from a great site, www.currentcodes.com. Anytime you are ordering on the internet, it's worth taking a look to see if you find a discount there!

I goofed, it is starboard! The right side. Port is left--tip to remember both have 4 letters. In the channel going out I like to look starboard because their is more to see. Especially when we leave the terminal with the Mickey Hands waving good-by to us. :) Kathy

Hi Everyone,
My little boy has the flu. Poor little guy. I am suppose to be shopping for a new dress........
Sorry everyone seems to be getting sick. It looks like everyone that is sick is from the midwest...For all you worried about getting sick before the cruise:
There was a thread a while back abouth Ziacom for when you are about to get a cold. I was very skeptical, but then guess who got cold symptoms the next day...
I bought the stuff and the cold symptoms were gone within a few hours. My husband tried the stuff the next day after getting the cold symptoms and he never got the actual cold either. If you read the thread it was the swabs that worked the best. I don't know if it really worked but I am glad I found that thread.
Kennedy Space Center has scheduled an unmanned rocket to launch a GPS Satelite the day we board!!
Event: Delta 2 Rocket Launch
Date: 3/20/2004

I was the only one who took the Zicam and the only one who didn't get knocked out by the cold. Every time I feel it coming on, I use the swabs. And I haven't had many symptoms so far!

Our group has the Hummerzine reserved for our trip to the port on 3/20. We are staying at Pop Century and the Hummerzine is scheduled to pick us up at 11:30. We wanted to leave earlier than that but the Hummerzine will be out on a trip and is scheduled to return to Orlando around 10:30. If it gets back on time and is ready earlier then11:30 they said they would come get us sooner. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
If we are picked up at 11:30, (depending on how long it takes to load our luggage) I would think we would be arriving betweeen 12:30 and 1:00.

I think I'll haul out the suitcases this week-end, and start the to-do lists. I'm going to make a list, pack once, and then try to whittle it down again by half. I think I'm set in what I want, with the exception of dress-up clothes. I have lost weight, and just shipped off to my sister all my tried and true formal wear, and can't find anything right now to replace it, and don't really want to over-spend since I plan to un-grow these too. Decisions!
I'm sitting here listening to my new favorite music thanks to this group......Philadelphia Chickens. I took it to work to share with my kids at school. Yesterday you would have had to be there with me to chuckle.......the big sand pile was swarmed with busy little "Pig Islanders", busy excavating ancient sites and building a brand new civilization of pigs. They were humming along. It was so cute. I could feel the palm trees swaying and the island breezes blowing.

The wind is just howling thru the house right now. In addition to the snow both of my boys had the flu...so I finally got it two days ago.
We watched the ship go past Two Palms yesterday and I am ALMOST embarrassed to say that we jumped up and down with excitement. It really sunk in that it would be US very soon.
I am starting to pack today, yeah!
On the boards I found an idea to put my boys clothes ds6 & ds8 in ziplock bags as an outfit, underwear and sock included, that way you know that you have a complete outfit and you can just hand them the bag and they can get dressed in the morning.
Target had the 2 1/2 gallon bags on sale. If you squeeze all of the air out of the bag it really takes up less room and is suppose to help prevent wrinkles.

I see that people posted over the weekend but I have not received them by email. hmmm. Wonder what is up!
Won't be long now. I am getting hungry, we were looking at the menu's for all the restaurant and I think we each pretty much have our orders down.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to pack wine to bring aboard. I thought about my suitcase and my husband reminded me that the last cruise as we departed we watched them chuck luggage from the ship into these containers on the pier. When we got our luggage we found that several things had been broken. Mostly it was plastic stuff (glasses, souveniers). I am afraid that the bottles will get broken and my clothing ruined.
See you real soon.:earsboy: :chat:

geffric, Thanks.
My mother also suggested that I carry it on.... But my carry-on is busting at the seems with swim suits, goggles, water shoes, etc. Plus, I have a video camera, a digital camera. I guess I'll carry it one. Then everyone will have something to hold. It's not like we can't go to our stateroom and dump it off, right?
Another question. How much is too much for a suitcase to weigh?

dvcmomdeh On the past 2 cruises, we have just dumped our stuff in the room and moved on the lunch .. Also, I think the kids will wear their suits under their clothes so they can just get into the pool right away..
Although.. one never knows with my kids... had to argue with my oldest son yesteday to get him to try on clothes to see what still fit.. then he refused to go shopping for new clothes..said he was ok...must be a boy thing.. DS#2 won't cooperate about the clothes either..

Maybe it is their age. I had no problem getting the DS (15) to the mall to shop for shorts. He now just needs more shirts I was hoping we could make a Belz Outlet stop on the 27th on our way back to the Beach Club.
Now the DD (12, going on 21) doesn't want to go to the mall or tanning. So she will be the little whitey in last years clothes (too small).. ;) I can manage to take a tape measure to her waist and buy shorts but she is pretty picky about her shirts. Plus, there isn't much time to get her to the mall anyway her basketball team is continuing on in the tourney :(

We always have dropped our luggage off in the room and then go to Topsiders for the buffet and reservations etc.
As far as packing beverages: one year I checked in a carry-on a 24 pack of beer. I used bubble wrap as the cushion. It arrived in perfect condition. I put the wine bottles in bubble wrap and made sure they were in the middle of the suitcase. I did the same with the gin. This last cruise in Jan. I even checked my diet tonic in our checked bags but I put them in ziplock bags then bubble wrap. The only thing that was different was that the tonic was hard to open--lots and lots more bubbles. It traveled better in a carry-on.
This year: we are using Shirley's company the perfect gift. I just ordered 4 bottles of wine, a six pack of Diet Vanilla Coke, one liter of Gin and 3 bottles of diet tonic water! I even had her get us a large bag of pop corn since it is hard to come by on a cruise. I have heard such great reviews of her company that I thought I would give it a try. Dave thought it was a great idea when I told him I ordered the items from Shirley. Pricewise it won't be cheap but then I don't have to worry about packing the beverages. We could of took a taxi Friday night when at the Hyatt but then you have to add in the fare to the beverage prices so I might as well go for the convience of using the Perfect Gift. Although her wine price was a lot cheaper than DCL's! I pay $3 for the bottle here (yes, he likes the simple things in life :) ) and if I remembered correctly we were charge $30 for the same wine on the Magic!!!! Shirley charges $15.
Good luck with all the children and clothes. To think we had 4!
One more weekend then it is our turn!!! Kathy

give Budget a jingle. We're renting a car to drive out to the port, and since you need the car just for a couple of hours, the rate is great. I think we are paying less than $20 for 3 hours. Budget always needs the cars on Saturday out at the port too, for those just returning, so they are pretty good about the one-way rental.

Any chance the snorkel is in the bathtub? That's where ours live most of the time!!
I need to leave soon, because I keep thinking of more things I should bring with me, and pretty soon my bags will be 100 lbs each. I did decide to pack a duffel bag in one suitcase and then use it as the laundry hamper all week, leaving plenty of space in the suitcase for stuff we buy ;)

<font color=royalblue>Shopped at Target today for odds and ends for the cruise. Even picked up Windex wipes (read last night that sea spray can build up and cloud your verandah view, can't have that happening, lol). DH is so going to tease me when he sees everything I have packed (shoe holder, air freshener, pillowcases for the kids.....). Packed our binoculars as well, very tiny, don't take up much room and we may see dolphins :teeth: </font>
<font color=blue>I bought our snorkle sets at Sam's club (very similiar to Costco) last summer and we tried them out in our pool. I think the "dry" type work great and I love having my own gear. We plan to use them for all three beach days. Thanks for the link,</font> <font color=deeppink>geffric</font><font color=blue>, I'm heading over there now to check prices.</font>

I think the "dry" snorkels are good; obviously, if you put the end of the snorkel under water and breathe in, you'll get water, but otherwise they do a good job of keeping water out from splashes and small waves. Ours also have a "spit valve" (don't recall what it is actually called) at the bottom; just blow out and any accumulated liquid is released.

Tonight is the only night this week that I'll have to finalize packing. I think the hanging clothes will get put in the van and even the suitcase. I can't think of another thing that needs to be put in. I am concerned about the weight of the bags. They really can give your bag a good swift TOSS. I decided to carry the wine on so I don't have to worry about that spilling on my clothes, but I am concerned with the bathroom spray, hair spray bottles, shampoo. Sorry if you can tell we don't exactly trust cargo people with our luggage.
Next week we will be doing everything we can to keep the kids focused on their studies, taking the dog to grandma and grandpa's, and a final thorough cleaning of the house.
Beach Club Villa's (Storm-Along Bay) here we come. And then watch out Disney Magic.........
5 more work days.
Have a good weekend everyone.

I bet these will be a couple:
Hidalgo
This much too long, primitively plotted family action adventure has a handful of well-handled sequences. But given the young audience the film is intended for, the picture is like having to finish an entire pot of broccoli to have a couple of jelly beans for dessert. (Walt Disney Pictures, PG13)
Miracle
This movie version of the 1980 United States Olympic hockey team's Cinderella season faces a hurdle that most fact-based films don't have to contemplate: the actual story the picture is based on was so corny and rousing that it hit all of the notes many filmmakers would have too much shame to embrace. (Walt Disney Pictures, PG) I could see this one again.
Padre Disney
03-11-2004, 11:07 AM
This is what they told me when I called.
Brother Bear, Calendar girls, Confession of a teenage drama queen, Cold Mountain, Finding Nemo, Hidalgo, Haunted Mansion, Lord of the rings?, Miracle, POC, Under the Tuscan Sun, Master in Command, Teachers Pet, Mentioned one other , I think it was Lady Killer but said no it doesn't come out until the 26th. After I hung up I looked at the calendar and we don't get off until the 27th soooo maybe we will get to see it.:bounce: :Pinkbounc

We're staying at the Fairfield the night before also, along with Cara!
Miracle was a really good movie; I saw it with 8 y.o. ds, and I hope he and dh can see it together on board. Neither boy has seen Teacher's Pet, so I'm hoping for that one too. And I want to see Calendar Girls...maybe it will still be there!
My boys will be in long pants for dinner, though as I've mentioned before, Andrew's may be sweat pants as it is very hard to get him into anything else these days (he is 5...until November, he'd only worn shorts for 3 years...go figure!).
I cannot believe we leave one week from today! I am getting so excited. :bounce: I just know it will pass by all too quickly once we are on the ship. Looking forward to meeting you ALL.

<font color=darkviolet>We were going to be staying at the Radisson next Friday night. Now I don't know :worried: , I've been reading about troubles with the shuttle service ect. My gut feeling on it isn't good. When I called to reserve a shuttle time for us I was told I couldn't because we didn't have the package then she went ahead and said she took care of it and we were down on the list (perhaps so I wouldn't call back?). Using code 102, we can stay at RonJon's for about the same price (within ten dollars). We can park our car there for the week but the shuttle isn't included. I'm thinking I would rather pay for shuttle service and have it be certain, than to have issues with the radisson shuttle (perhaps not being on the list after all, people shoving on without being on the list ect....). Anyone have any thoughts on this? Trying to make our vacation week hassle free. </font>

Went to the variety store today and got lots of cruis4e essentials, like travel size stuff and containers to put shampoo in and such. Tomorrow or Sunday I'll drive the 40 miles to Target and look for the 2 gallon zip locks. I hauled out the suitcases today to start piling things in, and our Siberian Husky started her pre-trip pity party. She is hysterical.....she knows what's up when the suitcases appear, and she mopes around, putting her muzzle in the bags and whimpering. Then she gets to doggy day care, and protests when we come to get her. I guess she is as bad as some of the kids with the clubs.
We will be in the air this time next Friday, and lots to do between now and then. I still have no new formal wear, but I do have a new black jacket and can take in a pair of beautiful ladies's tuxedo pants, so I'll be dressed men's wear style for formal. And that's ok with me.

?? for those who have done this before: near the end of the cruise, we get envelopes for tips for tipped positions. We indicate how much of a tip we want each person to get, and that amount can be charged to the credit card we linked to our KTTW card, right? If we charge all of them, is there any need for us to go to guest services near the end of the cruise? I keep reading about how it backs up there, and I want to check that it's possible for us simply to avoid going there at all, at least for this matter. The boys will have some Disney $$, and we'll try to pay off their portions with those earlier in the week; since we live relatively near D'Land, it's not a huge problem even if we come home with some.
Magicboundagain4
03-12-2004, 08:27 PM
Yes you will need to go to guest services to tell them what amount to give each server. I went on Tuesday when it was quiet and had them give me the basic amount for each. They then give you a ticket for each to put in their envelope....and then you can always add more later plus phone cards. But this way you can avoid the lines.
