View Full Version : Advice on Check-in @ OKW

Our flight arrives @ 11:30 into Orlando on April 18th (Good Friday). We had plans to go directly to the parks, so we could get most of a day. I was not planning to check-in until 10 pm, because it was my understanding that the rooms were pre-assigned. Now the boards are saying that OKW is doing a first-come first-serve basis. It is very important that we get a non-smoking room, because of my son's asthma. I have the medical condition noted in my request. Does anyone feel that I will still have a difficult time getting a non-smoking unit if I check in at 10 pm?

Thank You,

D. B. Kelly

IMHO, you will be OK - the vast majority of units at OKW are non-smoking and you do have it noted that the request is for medical reasons.

That said, I'd still recommend that you take the time to check in when you arrive. If you don't, you will probably continue to worry about it and that will make it hard to enjoy the day. It shouldn't take very long to check in at mid-day. I bet it won't delay your entrance to the parks by more than 30 - 45 minutes. Wouldn't that be worth it to set your mind at ease?

Enjoy the trip!

I agree, I would take the time to check-in first. That's a holiday weekend so they will probably be high occupancy. The only other thing you could try is to call the front desk when you get there and ask if you have a room preassigned.

Thanks everyone. I may try calling the day before to see if the room is pre-assigned. If there is any question as to the room assignment, I probably will take the time to check in.

Here's another vote to check in first. It really shouldn't take too long and you would have your keys already so when you come back later at night you can go right to the room and relax. That way if there is a problem with the room that was assigned there will be more leeway as it is earlier in the day as opposed to late at night when probably almost every room would be occupied.

We went to OKW in February I called and asked if we should check in first thing or just go to the parks and they said I would have a better chance to get what we wanted if we checked in first.

We did check in at 1200 pm and our room was ready so we unloaded and then went to the parks. When we came back later we went to the pool. It was nice to already be checked in.

Good luck and have fun.

If my experience on February 22nd is any indication, calling OKW prior to check in just doesn't work.

I called OKW front desk in the morning to tell them that our flights were delayed and that we expected to arrive quite late. I was told that our assigned room which met our requests would be held until we arrived.

Needless to say the room was not held and we had to settle for a location that was not quite to our liking.

I would strongly recommend you check in upon arrival.

I would check in first. We checked in at around 8.30 am and we were put in building 12. I really think that you would have a better chance of getting the location you want if you check in first.

There is really nothing to keep one castmember from "giving away" a unit that had been "pre-assigned" to a very persistent person standing right in front of them. The "squeaky" wheel many times gets the "grease", which in this case would be a unit that you thought met all of your non-guaranteed requests. You show up literally in the middle of the night and get whats left.

As others have said, take the time to check-in, getting your room keys etc., that will be activated once the room is cleaned or perhaps catching a break and having your room already good to go.

They will not give you the unit number until you've checked in AND the room is ready. I'd check in as early as possible even if you need to split up to do so.

Another vote for checking in early, that's what we did this past November. We checked out at VB and headed for OKW, we arrived around 11:30am and checked in. We were given our room key and a card with a number on it to call later in the day, when we called at 3:30pm the room was still not ready, when we called at 3:45pm the room was ready, and they gave us our room number over the phone. We headed to our room, got changed, and went for a nice relaxing swim, after walking around on a very hot November day.

I will have to agree with the others. A similiar thing happened to us as did Verandah Man.

At least when you check in you will be assigned a room. Don't wait until 10 PM, especially that week!!

I really wish they would go back to the preassigned room types, but that is not for discussion here!! LOL!!

Good luck and have a great trip 'home'.

You have convinced me! I am going to check-in before we go to the parks. Our vacation would be ruined if my son had to stay in a smoking room.

A couple of years ago, we went to the Trapp Family Lodge and my son was a hay fever nightmare. The Lodge is carpeted entirely by wool rugs and my son is also allergic to wool. The poor kid would not stop sneezing and wheezing until we got him outdoors.

Thank You,
