what to do with my video camera

i used to leave my video camera with my wife when on rides we were not supposed to carry them on....now the kids are old enuf to ride most attractions,,,,so.........what do i do with my camera without having to haul it back to a locker everytime...just hide it under my shirt like i've done when sneaking it in to video?

We take a backpack and just put it inside, then put a leg through the strap of the backpack. Put the heavy part of the backpack between your calf and the seat to "hold" it in place. Haven't had any problems with that. Good Luck!

I don't know how big your camcorder is, but I have never been told that I can't go on a ride with it.

I always have my DV-8 with me and never had a problem.

We also carry ours in our back-pack. When it's not in use, I wrap it in a towel to cushion it. Then I stick my leg thru the back-pack strap and ride. I would make sure that it was in a plastic bag first if you do this on any of the water rides, especially Kali RR.

I like using a backpack. It makes me feel safer about my camera. Not that theives wouldn't know to check backpacks for cameras, but I'm also not advertising I have one if I put it in something other that a camera bag. Plus, the double straps make it easier on my back. I start out carrying it like a purse, but by the middle of the day, I usually am using both straps because it feels lighter since the weight is distributed evenly.

Just to clarify, at some attractions you will hear an announcement indicating that videotaping and flash photography is not permitted. That does NOT mean that you cannot have your camera on your person. It just means "don't use it."

Also, if you're planning on doing a lot of videotaping when permitted, make sure you listen closely to the CMs' messages. Most of the rides that do have any sort of restriction (if you want to call it that) will simply ask that you do not use FLASH photography or a video camera with an EXTERNAL LIGHTING SOURCE. When you hear an announcement like that, just make sure that the bright spot light on your camera is off, and you can still tape. Most cameras produced in the last 5+ years will adjust to the low light levels and still give you an excellent image.

Only a very few attractions completely prohibit taping. Alien Encounter and Star Tours are two that come to mind. I believe you are even permitted to tape the 3d shows (Muppets, etc), but don't hold me to that.

On my last trip, I took my everywhere!!! I have 2 8-hour vhs tapes full of video and there was still so much I missed! When I was not taping (which was not often), I put the camera in my camera bag in my backpack. Since I did not carry alot in my backpack, it was not that heavy. On the rides or attractions I could not or did not want to tape, I would just put it in the bag or leave it around my neck. There are very few things you cannot video.

Some attractions will tell you no flash photography or exterior lights on your camcorder.

I have a camera bag with a strap that I put the camcorder in on the more wild attractions. It has ended up being great as you can put alot of "other" stuff in there too. I keep ibuprofen, candy, change, pen and paper, regular camera, pancho and occaisionally a wind brekaer or sweater! Now I know what Mom always complained about with her purse!!!! But it works great and has been on rapids rides and roller coasters.

Hey! Awww that's great...but also annoying, I wanted to tape last time we were on holiday. Just a few attractions so that when we were home we could watch it and remember the little fun things about each ride but my mum wasn't sure which rides we could use it on. And we never thought to ask :rolleyes:

How does everyone find it then? If on Test Track etc do you just hold the camera as normal? We have one but it's small and same shape to your regular picture taking camera (don't know how else to describe it lol :) ) and we were thinking on some rides we could put it in a pocket of our bag that has a sort of plastic front and just leave it recording :confused:

Just put the video camera in its case, put it at your feet and wrap the strap around your leg.

I even took it on the RnR coaster at MGM. It stayed right on the floor.

I held it over my head on Test Track. I've got some great video of the ride.

Watch out for the wet rides though. For those rides (and the sudden downpours) I carry a large ziplock bag. They sell a two gallon size at Target.

The only problem with using a video camera is that you sometimes miss the excitement of the ride itself. The last visit, I left the thing at home and enjoyed the attractions. This time, I'll take it because it's my first DCL cruise, but I won't take it to the park.

heya! Unfortunatley I live in the UK so I don't think we have a Target here...need to check tho *** I'm in london so its possible. I'll look for that kind of bag tho
I know what you mean about missing out on things...sometimes my mum was so busy filming all the different area's of Epcot etc, or the parades and getting all the characters on video that she missed out on the excitement. So some days we just left it at the hotel so she could watch everything...create memories in her mind rather than just on video :D
