Question for the men...or women who shop for their men..

Are Wolverine work boots from J.C. Penny any good?? Does anyone know anything about this brand?

They are decent boots. Are they for you or John? Do you need steel toe? What are they for - around the house or for work? How many hours a day will they be worn?

I know I'm asking alot of questions, and boots can be expensive, but some employers will help cover the cost. Red Wings are very good. So are Chippewas. A good pair of Chippewas will run you about $150; same for Red Wings, but they last. Steel toes cost more.

The best thing to do is try them on for comfort. Some can have higher tops than others and if you are not used to it, they can be stiff and rub your calves. The best thing to solve that is not to lace the up all the way to the top.

I don't have to wear steel toes, so I wear a good pair of Timberland hiking boots to walk around jobsites on. My boyfriend is on his 2nd or 3rd pair of Chippewas and he loves them.

Rocky also makes good boots. I bought a pair of those for snowshoeing, hiking and work since the weather is so bad up here this year. They are stiff around the ankles, but I needed them to be.

The reason I'm asking is because Pennys has a wonderful ""Code"" right now for 1/2 off a lot of things and these boots are included. They are for John and no he doesn't have to have a Steel Toe. He is a manager with our local Cable Company and works in the field probably an average of 20 hours of a 40 hour week. The rest of the time is spent indoors doing paperwork and technical head-end stuff.

The boots he has now are Rockies and he loves them. They were right at 100 dollars. The ones I'm looking at (Wolverines) are $165 (of course 1/2 of that) and compressed.....

The ones I'm looking at are the ones with no strings......these also look okay but they are a little on the cheap side....which is great if they are any good.

I like the way those ones with no strings look. But that can also be tricky if he has skinny feet or ankles.

Well at the very worst, if he doesn't like them when you get them, you can return them for a different pair.

Penney's usually has pretty good work clothes; usually comfortable and durable. I would imagine their boots are the same.

Hes had a pair similar (with no laces) for 3 years now and has worn them out!! At this price I think I'm going to go for it! Thanks Jipsy!

Wolverine is a Parent company of Hush puppies. My dad wears them for outdoor work and at times out in field of construction sites. He loves them and I love my hush puppy shoes.

DH goes through workboots like every 6 mos. He just got a new pair this weekend. His last pair were Wolverine's and he did not like them at all. He said they were not comfortable. He has had everything and the brand he likes most are Carolina's??? I have never heard of them but according to DH "they feel like you are walking on a cloud" :rolleyes: . But then again, DH has feet like Fred Flintsone so I wouldn't really go by his opinion ;)

Wolverine brand is ok, but if you want a good quality boot for men, try some Rockies.
