I planned on using the leftover hambone to make navy bean soup. However, dh bought pinto beans by mistake. Do you think I can substitute them? I also have cranberry beans, which I have never used before. Any thoughts?

I don't think so.

You can use any type of bean for bean soup, including combining different ones.

I've used pinto beans with ham but I prefer to use salt pork. I've seen all different kinds of beans used to make soup with ham, I've even see soup made with multiple types of beans at the same time.

Yes, you can use either type. I usually use a ham bone when I make pinto beans.
