I believe as I get older Im beginning to appreciate quiet contentment more. There are some types of excitement I can live without. Its a hard thing to do though - sometimes Im just so bored I need more excitement.

Which do you prefer?

I going for quiet contentment, along with a good meal, nice red wine and some music.

But I do still get an enormous buzz out of flying to Florida and going on rides such as the Tower of Terror and Splash Mointain. :)

After being at my IL's house this past week, I realized just how much I like a busy life. Things move very slowly in their town, everyone is into everyone else's business, they spend a lot of time doing nothing. their big night out is going out to eat once a month or going to the mall a few times a year. I would go stark raving mad if I had to live like that on a permanent basis.

So I guess my answer to your question is that I am content with excitement. :)

I'd have to say I'm more for excitement. I never have time to be bored, cause I am always busy doing something, whether it be going to the gym, riding my bike, working on my quilt, reading a book, working in my garden, getting together with my girlfriends, going to the lake for the weekend, spending time with my kids, which includes driving to Philly to see my DD, something is ALWAYS going on! I'm NOT content to sit around and do nothing. That would bore me.

I like BOTH. I am almost constantly in motion. High stress job with a day that is non stop. Working with horses, gardens, and household tasks when not working or playing. And then we have many trips we do each year including alot of weekend get aways that we do - so all in all I am almost never "just being". However... when I do "just be" for a while.... I can do it really well and savor it. I will pick a day and declare it a holiday and "just be". Could I live that way all the time - no way. But it sure feels good now and then to have quiet contentment to contrast with the constant excitement. :)

I would really like a happy medium in there somewhere. Usually it goes from one extreme to the other.

I prefer contentment. I am never bored--I always have something to think about, a trip to plan ;), and I take the time to enjoy over-looked things in life: a full moon that lights up the rooms in my home, ice-glazed trees glistening in the sunlight, the sweet smell of spring in the air, etc. I love these little things--they are my excitement.

You know what's really funny? Perspective. I was reading Ranatara's post and thinking, "Yeah, yeah, that's me, those are exactly the type of things I like to do too!" But I thought for sure she was going to say, "Quiet contentment." LOL! :p I guess it's all how you look at things. :)

How about excited contentment???? Can that be a category? :p

I'm with you Serena!

Quiet contentment for sure. I like things "running on an even keel" and hassles/problems just drive me crazy. I like routine. I like to slow down and appreciate things, like just this morning I was sitting here DIS'ing on my 'puter and I heard a chirp...chirp...chirp...so I got up and went to look out the kitchen window and there was a beautiful red Cardinal perched in the birch tree. I just stood there, for several minutes, watching and enjoying him. I am really looking forward to spring and warmer temps, so we can enjoy our morning coffee outside on the porch or deck. That is one of my favorite things to do, slowly waking up, enjoying that first cup with DH, talking, holding hands, listening to and watching the birds....so peaceful....

I think I'd prefer a happy medium too. Not all quiet contentment and not all excitement, just something somewhere in the middle.

I definately prefer quiet contentment. I used to be a lot more of wanting excitement - but 13 years ago two very different things changed that. One, I met my soul mate and best friend, my DH Mark. The same year we got engaged and married I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. I learned that I would rather spend nights at home with DH that out doing something 24/7. I also learned that I get more joy out the simple things in life. Does that mean that I don't enjoy excitement like a trip to WDW or doing a Disney Cruise? No way! What it does mean is that I can do those things my own way and not just do something because everyone says you have to. We've been on 4 Disney cruises, have never eaten at Palo's (will probably change that on #5 in May), and don't really do the clubs. However I love spending time floating in the water at Castaway Cay with DH or just sitting on the beach there early in the morning watching the sun hit the water.

Life is what you make it and I'm a firm believer in finding happiness within and for me that is quiet contentment.
