OK, that may have got someone's attention, :teeth:

But just to let you know, I have been told today that bulk copies of the new Brit's Guide to Disneyland Resort Paris (blah, blah) have reached the distributor here in the UK. That means copies should be on their way to the bookshops pronto. Here's hoping.........!

I've only got 15 days to go so I'm off to have a look in Waterstones today.
I just can't get excited about this trip tho - maybe *** I wasn't expecting to go quites so soon,or because I didn't have to save up for it.
(Or because I had the brainstorm idea to take my mum with me - sigh!! Haven't had to share a bedroom with her since I was 6 months old:D )

I thought I saw that already, or was is a 2002 edition? Or am I seeing things?

Not a place I plan on going again soon, but if it's anything like the Orlando book - must be the best!

I bought my copy in Waterstone's today in Maidstone and from what I've read of it so far, it's excellent! :D

We don't have a Waterstone's here.
Do WH Smiths and Ottakar's sell them ?

neo's white rabbit

I've been to WH Smiths, Ottakers, and 2 independent book shops in town today, and nobody's got them yet :(
The lady in Smiths said that she could order one, but it wouldn't be here until 11th March. (Thats too long to wait when your excited about something)
My aunt is going to cardiff later in the week, so she'll have a look there. Fingers crossed :p

How frustrating for you! Hope you get it soon...

alexandra uk
02-27-2003, 04:04 AM
I phoned Ottaker's yesterday to see if they had arrived yet, and they hadn't. They have put an order in for me, and it will take a few days (hopefully)

Got mine today - just come into Waterstones - It's brilliant!!!

I especially like all the off park stuff - La Vallee etc. as I'm taking my mum and she's not a Disneyophile so I get to take her for a break;)

alexandra uk
02-28-2003, 03:20 AM
Thats good news Elise. I'm starting to feel left out now ;)
I'm hoping mine will come in to Ottakers today, because I doubt they'll have any deliverys over the weekend.
I'm tempted to phone them, but they'll just think I'm being impatient (which I am)
Fingers crossed eh :p

I picked one up in Borders today, there was 5 on the shelf - so hopefully you should have it very soon Alexandra, the stock seems to be getting into the shops now.

alexandra uk
02-28-2003, 03:20 PM
I called in Ottakers today to see if there was any update on a delivery date, and they still didn't know. Although they did say that it should be soon.
I went to WH Smiths then and was told that they wouldn't be having them, and I could only get one if I placed an order  Other Smiths stock them though don't they ?????

02-28-2003, 03:31 PM
Crumbs, bookshops in your bit of the country give you the run around don't they? :(

I could have picked one up for you here and sent it on quicker at this rate!

You can see the photo and article at The Sun online try
www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2001330003.2003092724,,00.html If that doesn't work just go to thesun.co.uk and search Disneyland Paris.

Thank you :)

I did find it via a link that Olaf/Steph posted...which led to some rather funny Sun newpaper comments ;)

SimonV
03-02-2003, 06:37 AM
Many thanks for the kind comments everyone. And that pic of me and Mickey was taken VERY early in the morning during the press opening of Walt Disney Studios last year, hence the eyes seem a little 'withdrawn' ! :teeth:

And if anyone would like to post a review of the book on the amazon.co.uk website, all comments are gratefully received (and are very helpful for our marketing people).

Thanks again,

Simon.

PS: Here's the amazon link: Click here! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0572028458/qid=1046604845/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/026-0175174-1019625)

OK Simon, as one writer to another, I've submitted my review to Amazon - I'm now 'Mysterious of East Sussex' or something LOL

They say it could take up to 5 days to appear.

SimonV

Thanks, nwr. But where can we read some of your work? The mystery must be unmasked!

neo's white rabbit
03-02-2003, 01:23 PM
Well, there used to be a thing I did on Legoland last year on a website, could try and find the link. Not sure what other travel stuff of mine is on the web, tends to be in the papers so not necessarily on the web. I once found a sci-fi article I did for the the Express much to my amusement.

Our you could rush out and buy - or stand in WHSMith ;) - and read the March/April issue of Parentwise for my fascinating interview with Gail McKenna (she's kids TV presenter before you say who?!) or my daily Family Choice recommendation in the Saturday Daily Mail Weekend mag LOL And I turn up in some other places here and there.

And then I'm one of the co-authors of a book about home-education in the UK.

SimonV
03-02-2003, 03:05 PM
A-ha! In that case you are Jan Jurczak, (or Jan Jurczak-George). And your book is Free Range Education, edited by Terri Dowty. It includes your own chapter on why you decided to home educate, and your experiences.

Do I get my detective's badge now??

neo's white rabbit
03-02-2003, 04:05 PM
Oh yes! See takes one ace reseacher/writer type to ferret out another LOL

Anyway. kudos to you as I do rate your books very highly - if you knew me you'd know I'm not given to praise for no reason. Nor is the DH, also another journo.

I read and understand. And I am very appreciative of all the positive feedback. The Brit's Guide books have been my personal hobbyhorse for a few years now, and we've had a lot of obstacles to overcome in the book trade and occasionally in the press, so all the success we get is seriously gratifying.

If I can wheedle any Orlando/Paris articles out of any of our trips I'll be more than happy to give your books a plug. Hope the Amazon one I did today has some postive comeback too.

I tried on Saturday in WHSmiths, told it's not on there system, anybody else found it it Smiths?

neo's white rabbit
03-02-2003, 05:55 PM
I bought my Orlando book in WHSmiths, and I'm sure I saw a copy of the Paris book there.

Get it from Amazon, with the discount it will work out much the same with p&p

Smiths should have it though.

I've bought it from Amazon, but won't recieve it for another few weeks as I've bunged it on my Lilo & Stitch DVD order to save on postage! But if it's anywhere near as good as Simon's Florida book, it'll be worth the wait!

I can say that it is!

It was a link to this forum that I followed and found out about the book - I ordered it straight away and received it last Friday - I'm reading it cover to cover - great stuff.

neo's white rabbit

alexUK: A 7.99 book is about 5.19 at cost...so they either expect to sell a lot at 20p profit, got an even better discount for bulk ordering or are selling off a previous year's issue cheaper?

rob@rar.org.uk
03-13-2003, 12:25 PM
The DLP book is a first edition, so they won't be selling off previous editions. I was surprised to see discounting so soon.

Regards

Rob
