We are determined to do a dinner at Animal Kingdom Lodge on our upcoming trip....never been there and want to experience the atmosphere.
What would you experts recommend...Boma's or Jiko's? (We only have time for one dinner there). It is me and my wife...three kids 14, 10 and 6...all pretty good about trying new foods.
Thanks!!!

I have never eaten at Jiko, but I would recommend Boma. Have eaten there twice and it is great - tons of variety and new tastes, but also milder foods for picky kids, etc. The place is fun and kids love to pick out their own food from a buffet.
There are specialty main courses (ribs, prime rib and salmon last Saturday!), 4 different soups, salads (green, fruit, and specialty), an American kiddie area (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, etc.), breads, a great dessert bar. I'm sure I've left out some stuff!

With the kids Boma would probablay be a better bet. Jiko is kid friendly to a degree, but it is a restaurant where service is leisurely. Your kids will probably want to eat and get back out to see teh animals :)

My son (now 10) has two favorite restaurants from all his trips (5 of them) to Disney World.
Boma in AKL, and O'Hana's in Polynisian.
So I recommend Boma. I am rather fond of Boma too. Even when we aren't staying in AKL, we somehow always manage to get one meal there. ;)
Have a fun trip!

Ahhhhh...to be flying around on Dumbo...sliding down a tube at Blizzard Beach...or cheering at Indiana Jones instead of shoveling this snow off my driveway!!
Looks like you'll be doing those things soon, Cindy...two trips before ours in September...how great for you!!

I much prefer table service, and Jiko's.
But as Ducklite suggests, Boma is probably more kid friendly and probably more variety as well.
But I've seen plenty of children at Jiko in the 6-14 year range--

We too loved Boma's. Our boys (6 & 8) loved it also. I don't know what is in the Zebra Domes (someone on these boards will ;) ), but I do know they are wonderful! :D Enjoy!

A Zebra Dome is a very tasty dessert found only at Boma. Our memory is fuzzy on the details, but it is basically chocolate mousse inside with chocolate icing outside in a dome shape, with white stripes (so the name Zebra Dome). It is wonderful if you like chocolate. Very rich.

It's also on either a cookie or a piece of chocolate...I wish I was eating one now ;)

I'd forgotten how good Boma is, but reading this thread has certainly refreshed my memory! Guess I'll have to find a way to work in a meal at Boma on my next trip.

Another vote for Boma!
We were just there last week and we all loved sampling the variety of food at Boma. Our 2yo really liked the variety also. She particulary liked the threee hummus variations. And yes, those desserts are incredible! :)
