Any opinions on Category 5 and/or room 7532? As a first-time disney cruiser I was curious as I did not make the reservation myself. I notice a lot of you are on Deck 6; any reason?

One more question....does the lower the number go, the more expensive the room? For example, a Cat. 7 is less (or smaller ) then a Cat. 6, etc.?

Dis mama

Yes the lower the number the more expensive the room, and normally the higher the deck always carries a premium.

7532 I do not think differs from the staterooms with Verandahs on deck 6.Probably identical.

Last time i cruised I was on deck 7 and I liked deck 7 ,but if I remember correctly I was offered deck 6 this time when i made my reservation and as I was happy with that I did not take it further .So deck 7 should be very good.

Dismama,

I believe we wanted something in the middle for our first cruise. We were given deck 6 and it worked out great. Not too many flights up and not too many to go down. I used the stairs most of the time. I even requested the same staterooms which I received.

The only difference between Cat 5 and Cat 6 is that the Cat 5 is on deck 7 and costs more. The size of the cabin is identical. Last time we cruised we had a Cat 6 and were very pleased with it. This time we booked rather late (Feb) and all the Cat 6's were already taken. We ended up paying more for the privilege of being one deck higher, which in my opinion is a waste. I'd much prefer to spend those extra dollars on libations!

I seem to remember someone posting that they were leaving for Florida today, but I forgot who, and this thread is so long now you can never find anything! Anybody recall? In any case, if you're leaving today, have a safe journey and we'll see you on Deck 10!

That would be me who was leaving today. As soon as DH walks through the door, we are gone. Just wanting to check in one last time before turning off computer and leaving. Can't wait to see you guys.

We will all be wearing matching Mickey shirts with a flag. Mine will be red, DH blue, and the boys gray.

Amy - have great trip and we'll see you in a week. We'll be right behind you, leaving on Sunday.

Speaking of matching shirts, I'm trying to fend off a rebelliion. Remember when I said we would be wearing matching DVC shirts on embarkation day? Apparently, my kids got wind of it and said "now way". When I asked "why not, you would all look cute", my 21-year old son told me I had just framed the problem :) So, look for Judy and me in matching red DVC shirts and the kids wil be wearing whatever!

I'll check in on Sunday morning to bid adieu.

I have houseguests tonight and a reunion tomorrow so I bid all those leaving soon, fair journey. I can't wait to meet you all in person.

eyern-you don't win--I still don't have my docs but they are now at the TA and she said I could pick them up today. I was VERY UNHAPPY as our flight is so late we will miss lunch--my consulation I got to pick my dinner rotaion(we'll see if they really give it to me) and prebooked dinnr at Palo's for Sunday night (we'll see if that happens too) I will not worry about it as I now just plan on having a really great time with my family.

For those on your way have a safe journey!

Have a great trip....see you soon!

Joan: Exactly what time are you arriving? Even if you do miss the shrimp, you can feast on pizza and chicken fingers! Or, we can all grab a few extra and bring them to the sailaway party if you like!
Knowing that you have a priority reservation for Palo isn't such a bad deal....at least you'll be spared the ressie scramble!

Sandy: I knew it was too good to be true! My kids began rebelling against matching outfits years ago so I just couldn't imagine with the ages of your kids they would go for it. The worst was one year when my older son was already in H.S. and I had their holiday photo done in matching Superman shirts. Wouldn't you know that the photographer made a superhuge enlargement and placed it right in the front of his window (this was on Palisades Ave in Englewood!) It seemed like every single one of his classmates made a "pilgrimage" to view the photo and he became (in his words) the laughing stock of the entire school! He was so miserable I had to ask the photographer to remove it! (Last time I was there he still had it, but in the BACK gallery) After that, I never insisted my kids wear matching outfits again! You reach a point where you have to admit they're not our cute little dress-up dolls anymore and you just have to relinquish control. I've been nagging mine to pack but I don't think they've even thought about it. To a certain extent, I don't care what they wear, I just don't want to be embarassed by them. If my daughter brings her horrible, disgusting belly shirts, I'll die!

MickeyMouse418

jeanne- my mom has been buggin me to pack and now that I'm almost done, I think she is going to regret it. She seems to think all of our clothing will fit into three suitcases, but I don't think she's seen exactly what I'm planning to bring :smooth: And thanks for letting my dad know that we aren't cute dress up dolls, when i read the post on wearing the same shirt I knew there was no way he was getting us all to wear the shirt. Of course, it would help if I knew where it is...

Anyway only one day left before we leave and I'm so excited! See you all soon!

And all food will be closed at 3:30 for that emergency drill. Thye did offer to haave room service leave us something in our room. We are almost there. They got my cabin assignment straightened out, and I ended up better for it - same category 6 - cabin 6542!!!!!!!

I have taken care of all the paper associated with the trip (to the best of my knowledge) - it has been my experience as nurse that tells me there is always some form waiting to be filled out!!

Today I start to pack. I am not so sure we have enough luggage - guess I will find out soon, and allow for yet another trip to go pick up something else "we need for the trip".

I need to get some things finalized at work, and promise myself that once I leave there Wednesday afternoon - I dont care about anything at work. Up till that moment it will keep me stressed beyond belief!!

For all those traveling - please be safe - I look forward to meeting all of you soon!!!!

What took you so long? It's amazing how some people have already left and still we have newcomers joining us! All I can say is you have ALOT of reading to catch up on......or have you been following us all along like Trishy (who's probably mad at me for calling her names and now doesn't post anymore!) In any event, we're glad to have you join the party. I don't know if Sandy will have time to add you to the list, but give us the details anyway and please meet us all on Deck 10.

Joan: I'll still be right here with you. We don't leave until the morning of the 4th, and I'll probably be visiting this site until about midnight the evening before.

Audrey: I understand you'll be in Raleigh on Wednesday night! I'd say maybe we could meet for a little bit, but I'm sure we're all going to be running around like nut cases at that point! Make sure Sue whips up an extra-large batch of those rum drinks! Is 6542 the same as 6042 only on the opposite side of the ship? If so, you've got a great location! I'm so glad you finally got everything straightened out.

Sandy: My best buddy....I'll miss you! You're leaving me to man the fort here!
When exactly do you take off? Have a safe and comfortable trip on the Auto Train and have a blast at WDW! Can't wait to finally meet up with you and your family! I'll be looking for you at the port.....I have a feeling you WILL be first in line! I'll be with the family that's pretending they don't know me!

OK everyone, help me out if you would be so kind...

We are leaving in three days for WDW then seeing everyone to party on board.

While filling out our documents today, we started talking about how we didn't plan anything once in port. This is OK bacause we just wanted to have an R&R cruise. This will be our first time on the western cruise and wondered if anyone knew if there is anything to do in the three ports right off of the ship. For instance, is there a shopping area, beach, or fun things to do close to the port? As you can see, work has kept me too busy to think about the finer things in life...

I know, really late in the game to be asking these questions...

Thanks for the help and see you in ONE WEEK!!! :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

there is shopping in key west and cozumel right off the ship. Atr thecayman islands you have to take a tender into Gerorgetown as the ship doen't actually so that you can walk off to land. Hope this might help.

Joan

Not many of us left to respond to the boards as many others have already left for WDW.

Looks like we'll have lots of little takers for our bottles of bubbles for the sail away party.

Micbee, in Key West there is a trolley tour with lots of stops that where you can get on and off at your you own pace. I believe it is located close to the ship. In Mexico, again we are doing our own thing, it will involve a taxi ride, either to the national park or a private beach (still can't get the family to decide). I am fairly comfortable booking my own excursions now, since it went well for me on the Eastern.

Joan if your AAA list is green, we are the first five names on the list. At least one of my kids is using the bag they gave us as a carryon so if you see any of them in Port, it might be our family.

Kids and packing, Yes, I am now into nagging big time. After months of Do you need any new clothes for this trip? DD2 informs me yesterday she only has two pairs of shorts. I've got a feeling I'll be stopping at the Mall the day before we leave to pick up something someone decided they "must have."

I am also in the group that will be happy as long as I am not embarassed by what they are wearing.

Any chance you like to fast walk or jog? I do plan on getting a little exercise or results will be devastating. We will be carrying our DCL duffle bags we got last year for being a repeat cruiser and can't wait to get the DCL beach towel other have talked about on the boards that repeat cruisers are getting this year. UNtil next time, Joan

Bye, Sandy.....have a great trip.....see you soon!

Joan: I'll walk with you!!!!! I'm also an early riser and plan to fast walk at least 2 miles a day around the deck. I'm thinking that 7am give or take a little bit would probably work out well. Normally I do it even earlier, but we've got late seating and will probably head to Rockin D Bar afterwards so i don't see us hitting the sack until way after 1a.m.! I'll need to do a little something so I won't feel guilty about all the food I plan on eating! Let me know what works for you. (BTW, I can't jog due to back surgery, but I walk a 14-minute mile......is that fast enough to keep up with you?)

Sue: Ha-ha, good luck with your 4a.m. departure.....don't forget that Krispy Kreme on Peace St. is open 24 hrs a day, and at that that hour you know the "HOT" sign will be lit!!!!! Have fun reading all the "Pancho" signs......Our favorite is "you never sausage a place!"

We're hoping the kids will still be asleep and we can get a jump on things before they're hungry. :p I doubt the 4AM departure, more like 6AM. We may stop at Daylights around the corner.

We're still waffling on the rum punch idea. I'm deciding whether it's worth it to bring the gallon jug, mixer and rum. Majority rules I guess. Roll call for Rum punch at the Raddison pool....

Sue: Forget the rum punch...I was only busting your chops. With 2 young kids, you have more than enough to take care of and don't need to lug all that extra stuff. Besides, I have 5 litres of wine which I just know will go to waste! Caroljean ordered that huge cake and if every family brings along a snack (like pretzels, chips, etc) there'll be plenty. It's not like we're gonna be lacking for food the following week! You don't need to do a poll....make it easy on yourself and just forget it!

I do rise early to and plan to walk as many mornings as I can. I need it bad. I am dreading wearing a bathing suit.

As far as my cabin assignment, I am not sure where they came up with that cabin - I sure hope who ever had got an upgrade - or maybe they took it from my "old" travel agent. It is exactly opposite from Sue - the location looks perfect to me.

I am totally pumped - Just need to finish packing. I am hoping my girls have plenty of clothes - I am packing everything now, so they may have to wear bathing suits till we leave! They do most of the time anyway.

Rum Punch? I may go for the wine in a box - it is actually my favorite. I will swing by Sams Club tomorrow and see what else "I need for the trip". That is my theme song these days. I just need to get through this last few days at work.

JoanB - where you on the green list? Did you like how Sue and her family are listed as being from Prince George, VA?? Where are you from?

Back to packing and cleaning and laundry - two more days and a wake up before we are on the road!! It will feel great just to get out the door!

Thanks, Chelsea, for setting me straight. As long as you guys take care of your own laundry needs, I'm not going to worry about it. I just packed several "dinner" outfits for Jason, because he's probably not capable of doing that himself. Whatever else he takes or doesn't take will be his problem. Case closed!

Grrrrr.......I just made a list of everything that has to be done......I HATE GOING ON VACATION!!!!!! I love it once we leave home, but getting to the point is always a killer! Right now the fun stuff is under control, it's all the household and office stuff that has me crazy. In the words of Audrey, I'll just keep telling myself 3 more days and a wake-up! (Is that right if we're leaving Friday?)
DD needs dramamine, DD needs a strapless bra, I want a new clear OTD shoe holder because the one I have was gotten at Dollar Tree and it's butt-ugly, I need to spray and trim the bushes, why do we do this to ourselves? Sorry, I'm venting......

On a positive note, I just ordered the Martini&Rossi package with the chocolate strawberries to be delivered to our stateroom. The woman said what you see in the brochure is what you actually get, but I won't believe it until I see it. It seems like an awfully good deal for $29 plus tax and grat.

Gotta go and tackle some things on that list.....

Most days;) Maybe we can set up a meeting time for walking at the party.

Yes it seems I'm always up early it comes from too many years of having to be at work by 7am.

When packing, I found lots of stuff that needed to go to the cleaners, since Epcotgirl1 needs the clean clothes, I sent her out with them this morning, with instructions I need them back by Wednesday.

Wine is great with me, it now looks like a 7-8PM arrival at the Radisson, depending on whether we stop for dinner at Gills. Will that be too late to sing Happy Birthday?

Jean, I found just the bra I needed (strapless and backless) at Victoria's Secret, they are having a sale.

Down to the nitty gritty details, and DH has taken Wed. off to help YIPPEE!!!!

OK OK I am not mad :p I'm in FLORIDA!!! I'm at BWV and we went to Epcot today. I'm taking a break from the sun and the kids wanted to check their email. So I took a break to see what's up on the 7/5 list. Well, the flight was great (on United Saturday) what a relief that was! Looking forward to Saturday. Loving it here. Raining every day around 4ish, comes down really hard then just stops... just like that. Had some wonderful thunder and lightning last night - hoping for the same tonight. Almost had a rocket launch Saturday night, but they cancelled after they discovered a part not clinging to the rocket appropriately. Scheduled tentatively for Wednesday night. Anyhoo, that's it for now. Time to take a swim before the lightning shuts everything down again. Take care... Have great flights, car trips, etc. Good luck with the packing. Haven't discovered anything forgotten yet (knock on wood) but our friends forgot their formal gown at home. HAving it sent Fed ex to BWV so well see what happens. I'm still checking the boards.....NOT because i don't have anything else to do, but because I don't want to do it! This is so much more fun!

Joan: What dining rotation did you choose? Are you early or late seating? I just read that they changed the rotations all around on the Western magic. That kinda screws me up because i had looked over all the menus and decided which offerings i liked the least so we could request Palo for that night. Now i'm not sure if that schedule will still hold. Oh well, just something to think about.

Don't feel bad about not making your goal......I've been trying to lose 30 lbs. since we made the reservation back in Feb. Guess what.....it didn't happen (no surprise) Because I've changed my cooking and my shopping, hubby lost about 15 lbs, but I'm cursed with a horrible metabolism and can't get the weight off no how!
I won't let it interfere with having a good time and hopefully you won't either. Gotta go do some "stuff"......

It just doesn't seem like that many clothes but boy are they taking up space. I have a bag for snorkle gear and one for drinks, so that leaves 8 cases for five people, why is this so hard?

You'll know who I am in line, I'll be the one with a brief case and a carry on, looking like a pack mule.

what are the odds they put off the launch till friday night? Wouldn't that be a bonus!!

jeanneg - what do you mean they have changed the rotation on the western? We have early seating. Have they changed times, room/restaurant rotations? We don't know our rotation until we check in and get our cards if I remember right.

My dd and my 15 yr. old ds are 90% packed. My oldest ds takes care of his own. I hope we can fit all this luggage in our rental cars. Getting a little worried here. Might bring snorkeling equip. if room. One last stop at cleaners tomorrow (we had a wedding Sat. and dress is coming on cruise).

Slowing but surely - I don't think there are many of us left home.:(

jeanneg--To try and calm me down after finding our our arrival in Orlando was around 2pm. plus and hour drive and check in they said I could book Palo and choose my dinner rotaion so my Palo ressie wouldn't be on a night I wanted regular dining. Are you following me? We will see if I get when we arrive ,b ut this is what I asked for APLAPLA as I had read the formal night was Monday and I wanted to be at Luminers. My ressie for Palos is on Sunday as Parrot Cay is my least favorite of the three, but if We decide not to use th Palo ressie, I will offer it up to all my new frinds on this thread. We got second seating..we love it. Have tried both.

The weight issue is new for me-something to do with the change of life. I'm learning to live with it and have also changed my diet, but I do love sweets and love to bake. I must brag I have taught my children to make the best ever chocolat chip cookies. I also exercise over a n hour 5 times a week.

Well I too have much to do...clean the house, iron, and start to pack...we too have a snorkle bag, a carry on food bag as our connections are so bad and we will prbably not get any food on board until after the fire drill

This is way long but I'm waiting on the shower. Happy packing!

Joan: Ha,ha...don't mention c.of l. to me.....right now I flash more than a traffic signal! Pardon my french, but hormones suck! Anyhow, I'm assuming we'll get LAP rotation cuz our kids are older and i was going to skip the regular Parrot Cay night because I really didn't like the menu. I thought Monday was going to be semi-formal and I didn't mind doing Palo that evening. Someone posted that they just returned from the 6/21 sailing of the Magic and now Monday is formal night (which it was a few months back, but then switched). Here's my dilemma: if we go to Palo on formal night, we'll miss seeing all our dining companions all decked out which I really thought would be fun. I'm definitely not into eating 2 meals (Lord, no!!!!) so the suggestion to do both isn't an option. So now I have to go back to the menus and figure out which other night we should miss, but that person also posted that they switched "Master Chefs" with "Small World" so who the heck knows what we'll be having when!
You mentioned that you might not use your Palo ressie.......don't be a fool.......it's VERY good and you should definitely experience it at least once. Last time, DH and I went and let the kids dine at our regular seating alone. They had a blast without us. This time I've got one that's over 18 and one that will turn 18 as soon as we get home. We actually planned to sail the following week and celebrate his birthday on board, but it didn't work out. I'm hoping they'll let him slip by, but you never can tell.

Anna: I think the only thing they changed were the formal and semi-formal nights and some of the menus got switched. There's a post on the first page that's titled "just back from the Magic" (or something like that) and it spells out all the details. You're right, we don't know our rotation until we actually sign in, but due to the fact that my kids are older I'm assuming it will be LAP. Of course, there's no guarantee, but I'm just trying to plan ahead as much as possible. Joan was able to pick hers out because they messed up with her flight.

Denise: If all goes well, we'll also be arriving around 8pm at the Radisson. We really want to try that restaurant Verandah Man always raves about so alot depends on what the wait is for that place (you know how Friday nights are). I decided not to have the kids work on the 4th, so that means we'll be able to take off as soon as hubby does his rounds. If we can pull away by 8am we should be fine. Don't let the party start without me! (How can it....I have the wine!!!!) See ya soon....

I just got back from the doctor's with my (almost) 3 year old son. He has been throwing up, fever, and is miserable. Doctor gave him some antibiotics so hopefully we will be fine to go on Friday. He turns 3 years old tomorrow. They think it is a viral infection (so no antibiotics), but they gave it to him anyway because his sinus x-rays should some indication of infection.

We also requested the aplapla rotation, but are on early seating. As for weight....I've kind of blown it this last week. Hopefully still at a loss of 36 pounds. I do plan on fully enjoying myself on the cruise!!!!!

Hope all of you are doing well. I was crazy focused on packing....now I am crazy focusing on my son:(

Dismama -I am sorry to hear about your son, but better now and it will be behind him for the trip!!

I too was on the phone with the pediatrician. We have had to put my youngest on Zantac from long term NSAID use. Between taking motrin on a daily basis (she has a bad knee), and all the excitement from the upcoming trip- her stomach has been bothering her the past few days. She is headed for surgery for the knee - she will be the little one with the brace on her right leg, if she is swimming - she has tan lines from the brace so it still looks like it is there.

As I prepared for this trip for the past week, one question kept coming to mind...........What did I do with my time before children, when I thought I was so very busy all the time? I cannot for the life of me remember!! But before you know it, they will be gone on to their own lives, so even though I am exhausted beyond belief, I am still loving every minute of it.

I went by AAA to purchase travelers checks, and of course I had to pick up some info on planning our next major trip. Long car trip - I could not think of anything better to do (all forms of work are outlawed for my husband and myself). I am a glutten for punishment!:)

We are on the road tomorrow, I will check boards a few times before we go. If I miss anyone, please have a safe trip, I cant wait to meet each of you!!

I just got a new computer and for some reason i can't reply using the email notification link. I just contacted support (or at least i hope it went through) to see what the problem is. The only way for me to log in is to go through the main site which is very time consuming.
Since i've already typed and lost this message 3 times, I'll keep it short:
DisMama: so sorry your little one is not feeling well. I'm sure he/she(?) senses all the excitement and is reacting to it. I'll cross my fingers and say a prayer that all goes well. Sick babies and plane trips are not a happy combo.

Epcotgrl: Ooops, I never even thought about getting a gift for that little girl (and no, I don't recall her name either) Hmmmm, now I don't know what to do. Do you think it's expected? With all the stuff everyone is carting around, I'm sure her mom doesn't want to be burdened down with anything extra, but that's just my opinion. What does everybody else think?

Welcome to Raleigh.....isn't this lovely weather?!? Better that we have it now than later. Have a great trip down tomorrow. We'll be following in your tracks on Friday. If all goes well we'll make it to the Radisson by about 8pm. See you then!

Denise: that's a great idea about the Disney beanie baby. It's compact and ties into the cruise. Let me know what I owe you towards the cost. Thanks.

Sue: Be thankful your kids are so excited. I truly miss those days. Mine have been complaining to their friends that they "have to" go on the dumb Disney (roll their eyes) cruise! Secretly, i think they're looking forward to it, but they won't let on to me that they feel that way. I'd rather have the old "bouncing-off-the-walls-with-excitement" times again!

Hi Joan,
Looks like you'll truly be the last man standing. Hopefully Shelley finally got on the road! Sounds like she had a horrendous day. I think Denise should also be gone by now and Sue and Audrey plan to leave early tomorrow morning. I think I'm in pretty good shape here. I just completed next week's payroll which was a little complicated because I had to calculate quarterly bonuses. now i just have to close out the quarter and get all the necessary reports to the accountant tomorrow so he can do the quarterly taxes. normally this doesn't need to be done until the 10th of the month, but since I won't be here, it all needs to be done now.
My daughter and I have an appointment to get our nails done tomorrow afternoon. She plans to get tips and wants me to do the same, but the last time i did that was for my 40th birthday (10 yrs ago) and my nails started to turn black! Yuk! I think i'll settle for a simple manicure instead. I know she wants the "bonding" experience, but i'm just a simple gal at heart and don't want nails that aren't mine!
This will be our first time driving to Florida. We have always flown, but ever since 9/11 it's become such a hassle. Most of the people on this board live alot further than we do and they all encouraged us to drive this time. Both my kids have nonrestrictive licenses so they can help out a little also. We're actually excited about the trip down...it will be something different. When we cruised 2 yrs. ago, Delta changed my flight without notifying us (Thank God I checked on my own a few days before. As if that wasn't bad enough, they lost all MY luggage (nobody's else's, just mine)! I remember being so miserable at the sailaway. As it turned out, they actually got the bag to the ship on time, but i didn't know that until we got back to the cabin and the message light was flashing in our room. All's well that ends well.
Gotta get back to work and get these reports ready.......

Anybody else still around????????

They decided DH needed to work today and part of tomorrow so we don't leave until noon.

I know it's a good thing his office will be set up when he gets back, but now I get to rearrange the packing, since the stuff from the dry cleaners is here.

The good news, the cam corder that has spent more time at JVC then with us, is back with us. They overnighted it so I can take movies on the cruise!!!!

Jean, we've driven to fla at least once a year since the kids were in car seats. It's really not too bad. I just make sure they have their own music and their own headphones. I may go out and spring for the Harry Potter book on tape.

Chelsea and I did the manicure thing on Monday, we now have matching nails.

I'll check in tomorrow before I unplug the computer and do the final house check.

Safe journey to all. See ya real soon.

I have talked one into painting her toe nails. hope you have fun having yours done it is very relaxing.

We have flown several since since 9/11 and haven't had any trouble. I don't really like to fly ( a control issue) but I do like the shorter travel time.

You all have fun and look forward to meeting everyone in person. My daughters and I all have chin lengh hair and my husband is the one who's head is full of curls-his own. And my handsome 2 sons. Joan

We're back. We even got some extra time at Downtown Disney when the auto train was delayed. Look for my trip report sometime this week.

I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you all. The cruise people made us take our daughter to the Emergency Room and get clearance from their doctors before we could board the ship. She had been throwing up and was really sick. We had already checked in and left for the hospital at 10:30a.m. I was panicked, but we made it back on at 4:35p.m. She had a urinary tract infection. We didn't get out much the first few days. We had a wonderful time after that. It was very stressful to say the least!!!!

I got lucky enough to meet Jeannie and her husband as we were leaving.

All fourteen of our party signed up for the Eastern 7-day December 11, 2004. Already I've seen that *************.com is beating the DCL price by far. I think more family will join us this time. Whose all back safe and sound? We made it back home at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. Kids did great on the ride back so just kept going.

Since about 30 minutes after I left the boat, I have been so queasy. At least maybe I'll lose some of the weight I gained since I can't eat. Is this happening because I am on land and NOT moving - kinda the opposite of seasick? I just hope I get over it soon.

We had a great time meeting everyone. Sandy and Judy - thanks for letting me hang out with you guys. Jeanne and Denise - thanks for the brunch and high tea ressies. Wendy and Doree - the boys loved the candy.

Dis Mama: sorry your daughter wsn't feeling well and you had such a stressful first day. We were wondering why you didn't make it to the DIS meet. I did get to see you perform keraoke (quite well, I might add!) at Studio Sea. I only knew it was you because the emcee introduced you as Dis Mama. I would have stayed and introduced myself, but we were actually just passing through on our way to another event. I heard him announce your name and so I peeked in on what was happening. I hope the rest of your cruise went well.
Caroljean: What happened? Several of us tried to find you at the Radisson with no luck. I personally searched the pool area on 4 separate occasions, once carrying the 5 litres of wine and 2 dozen lime green cups and the other times wearing my green Mickey. There was another big bash going on so it was very difficult to spot anyone. We were wondering if you ever made it. I also brought my lucky(?) cards on board so we could play a few rounds of euchre but that never happened either. I hope all went well with you. Too bad you weren't able to hook up with the group.....it was a really nice batch of people and we had a great time.

OK, who was the couple hanging out in our meeting area watching everything but not coming forward? If you were DISers we would have loved to have met you.

By the way, the wine that never got served and ended up sitting in our car all week at the port is incredibly still good. DH and I decided to drown our sorrow that the cruise was over by opening up the box and having a pour. (We were afraid to serve it to anyone else!) Well, it was still good, so this will be a happy week.....5 litres is alot of wine!

Amy: Yeah, I'm also not feeling too steady on my feet. The same thing happened the last time. I'm not feeling sick, just very, very dizzy. Today is better than yesterday, so hopefully it will be totally gone in a day or two. Yesterday, I felt like I was extremely drunk and that was before the wine!

Hello everyone. We just got back late last night - around 10:30 pm. Our flight was delayed about an hour due to storms in Washington.

We spent four nights at OKW - one of our home resorts for the first time. We loved it. I did actually feel like I was still on the ship while there. I found myself swaying a few times.

It was nice meeting some of you guys too. Congratulations again to Sandy's son for winnng one of the bingo games. I had also bought a small gift for the birthday girl at the Radisson but we only met luv2boys there. We did go to Cocoa Beach to see Ron Jon's fireworks after dinner. They were fantastic.

gometros: I loved reading your trip report. I am so disappointed that I didn't get to meet you all as I had planned. I was locked in the room the first night with a very sick daughter. Did not get to go to the sail-away party or see Animator's Palate show :( However, I did go to Karaoke and I think I might have seen your daughter sing The Rose (well done), but I did not see your son. I was in there singing also. It was the first time I had sang infront of my kids. My son started crying...he did not want Mama on stage or I really stunk!!!!

I love all of the information you provide on your site. Thank you for taking the time.

We too enjoyed the cruise greatly and departed MAGIC reluctantly and plotting a future adventure aboard DCL. Sorry, we did not knowingly meet up with many of you but would like to thank you for all of the very helpful insider tips. I felt like an experienced cruiser and was able to help out our dinner tablemates (4th trip for them) with some ideas I learned from this thread. have returned home after a great cruise. We did meet EYERN and family on Captain Marvin's sting ray outing and a few other times. (If you can copy the DVD, we'll buy the drinks at your favorite spot in Annapolis.:)

Look forward to seeing trip reports and will try to contribute soem material myself. We too are happily annoying our family and friends with our pictures and tales.

Wait, what song did you sing? We were there and I remember them introducing a Lisa, but I don't recall for which song. Yes, that was Sara singing The Rose

So sorry about the problems you had the first day. Glad it was only the first day and I hope you enjoyed the rest of your cruise.

On that night I believe I sang "What's Up" by 4NonBlondes and on the second night I sang "Nothing Compares 2 You" by Sinead O'Conner. I struggled on both because I haven't sang in a long time. Used to sing a lot before kids :). There were 14 of us sitting in the front row area and all of our kids were dancing. They had a blast in there!!!

Hi Sandy, Jeanne,Denise, Wendy et al
We're finally home...we had such a good time meeting you all, hope we'll be cruising with you all next year....Sandy didn't you say you set up a link already for the August 7th cruise? I haven't looked for it yet.
We had an incident with Corey at the Animal Kingdom, he and I had a little disagreement and he decided to "run away" Disney security was WONDERFUL...they finally found him after 4 hours of his being "backstage" at the Animal Kingdom. He was wandering through all the jungle/forest area....luckily he didn't run into any of the real wild animals like the bear and cougar they have down there. Things are ok for now....
Got our Stingray City pictures back...will attempt to email the ones of Sandy/Judy and Jeanne/John to you and if you email your regular address Sandy I'll snail mail them to you (Jeanne I'll get your photos out to you too since I have your address)
WDW had a really bad storm on Friday night before we left...over 250 lightening strikes per hour. Trees uprooted, carts around Boardwalk turned over, garbage cans blown down the Boardwalk...we had lots of fun trying to get from the Flying Fish Cafe back to Disney Beach Club Villas....ugh!!! Very scarey !!

Sounds like that was some storm you guys experienced! At least it didn't happen while you were at the parks or, even worse, driving. Glad you made it home safe and sound. I take it the "congregation" has also survived!
Sorry to hear about your bad day with Corey.....he seemed to be having a great time during the cruise whenever we saw him. Teenagers for the most part are a pretty nasty lot. I'm so glad all of mine have finally made it to the first stage of being "legal".

So sorry about your experience with Corey, but I'm glad it all turned out all right in the end. I did a similar thing to my parents on a cross-country trip when I was 10. We were in Zion National Park and they thought I was lost. With help from the Ranger, they eventually found me playing with the Ranger's son (who I made friends with) in his own backyard!

Hi everyone again. It seems there has been some activity here again. I just received the last e-mail notification by Minniemart. Need to catch up again with these last e-mails.

We own at OKW and BCV (added another 50 pts. BCV at the member bbq). We were in building 14 and all our requests were made. We really enjoyed it, it really felt like home. On our last day since we had a late flight, we went over to check SAB and VWL. We were also very impressed with VWL and hope to try both of these resorts too someday.

My kids want to do the Eastern Cruise again in two years. We shall see how we stand next year when it's time to book. My ds is starting college end of August - I am having problems with aol again. Will keep in touch.

08-06-2003, 10:16 AM
I sort of created a problem by starting an Aigist 7, 2004 discussion as soon as we booked. So while the five families from the July 5th cruise who are going on that cruise are talking there, we may have neglected this thread. Sorry.

Lisa - heard all about Laura;s show from Elana. Elana just performed as the Fairy Godmother in the Helen Hayes Junior theater production of Cinderella and now they are rehearsing for Pirates of Penzace. Isn't it wonderful that we have such talented children?

Btw, speaking of the August 7th cruise. Tomorrow marks one year to go!

gometros
10-31-2003, 11:26 AM
Jeanne brought up an excellent point on our August 7th thread. Because five of us are cruising together again, we've taken most of our discussion over there and neglected our other friends we met on this cruise. It also caused a second problem, perhaps scaring away some new cruiers who will be joining us on the August 7th cruise by maybe appearing too cliquish. So, I don't see why we can't keep this thread going as a means to let everyone know how each of us are doing.

gometros
11-02-2003, 05:28 PM
Sports is my primary thing, but I'd like to do musicals also. The thing is with sports, I can just show up. With musicals, I have to get permission. What I'm thinking of doing is striking a deal with the school to give them a kickback of anything I make.

jeanneg
11-02-2003, 07:08 PM
Wow, great photos, Sandy! That wouldn't be Elana's team by any chance? Some of the photos looked like it could be her, but I wasn't sure.
BTW, speaking of musicals, I had the good fortune of obtaining 4th row center orch seats to "Boy From Oz" when I was in NYC two weeks ago. I know the critics weren't too fond of it, but Hugh Jackman was amazing. His singing is really excellent and seemed so effortless. His dance moves were pretty awesome also. I know there's alot of musical interest on this thread, so I would definitely recommend catching this show while he's still in it. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I'll be headed out to California in less than 2 weeks. John is doing a presentation to the American Academy of Ophthalmology which has their annual meeting at the Anaheim Convention Center this year. Unfortunately, we were unable to get reservations at one of the Disney resorts (they've been booked solid for over a month now), but we will be staying at one of the "Good Neighbor" resorts directly across from the parks. Jason won't go because he's taking AP courses and gets anal about missing class, so I'm "stuck" doing the parks alone. (Wendy can tell you about my attempt at finding a park "buddy"!!!!!!!) Anyhow, I'm way off the track here.....what I wanted to mention was that I was never able to get tickets to see "the Producers" in NY when it had Nathan Lane and Matt Broderick and then when they left, I just wasn't all that interested. Well, we got tickets to see it in LA and guess who's in it?........Martin Short and Jason Alexander! It should be dynamite and I'm really excited about seeing them together. Plus, my oldest son and his girlfriend will be accompanying us to the theatre and they have agreed to spend Saturday with me at the parks!
I didn't say anything before because we've so much bad news lately, I didn't think it was appropriate, but I know you guys love music so much, "i just couldn't keep it in" (that should probably be my new tag....!!!)

Hi everyone,
this is Ashley here,do you remember me,my wife Karen and son Gary from the 5th July cruise.

Anyway i would like to share some good news with you.

our son Gary got straight A's in his final school exams ,in fact getting one of the highest marks in the UK in Physics.

He was offered a place at Cambridge University,Emmanuel College Where he started in October.Cambridge University is currently rated top in the UK ,even ahead of Oxford.

Emmanuel college was founded in 1584 ,and many famous people have attended there ,including John Harvard(who founded Harvard, the first american University),and also the governor of the Bank of England,so Gary has a lot to live up to.

They have quite an interesting web site and Webcam if anyone is interested.
http://www.emma.cam.ac.uk/

The students there get all their meals provided, their rooms cleaned for them and even their laundry is done for them. There are also beautiful grounds and immaculately kept gardens surrounding the college.so not a bad life.(If Disney ran a University it would be like Emmanuel College Cambridge).

There is a lot of history surrounding the College and they get a lot of tourists, and gary gets quite a buzz telling them that he actually lives in these historic buildings.

He has also taken up rowing ,so I think he may be hoping to train hard for the Boat race with Oxford (I dont think so).

Sandy i have also discovered that the rules for soccer developed for the football association were invented in Cambridge on a green field called Parkers Piece ,that is next to the college.I think some amateur teams still play there today.

I am sad we will be unable to go on the cruise on 7th August, but we have not yet decided what we are doing this summer and the dates would not fit our schedule.

I hope you do not mind me posting to this site, and I must admit that I have been following the goings on from the sidelines.

Jeanne - Elana doesn't go to either of the schools in the pictures (as a matter of fact, one of them is the local Catholic High School :), she's not into sports like her brother is. The schools are are into playoffs mode and those were two of the top high schools in their division.

Ashley - I never had any doubt that Gary was going to make it into Cambridge. Congrats on his scoring the highest marks. Btw, Sara is hoping to do a semester in England next year. I think the last I heard was the University of Sunderland. Even though we won't be able to get her mother on a plane to visit, I know I intend to make the trip over at least once to see her.

Jeanne - sorry, I didn't mean belittle the assumption. I'm sure in many areas where the choice is a lesser education in public schools or a better education in a religious school of a different denomination, that is definitely a viable choice. In my area, where the Jewish population is 33%, there are plenty of Jewish private schools for us to choose from, if we so desired. Interesting history....we just thought that perhaps your father was Italian and your mother was Jewish and had the stronger religious background and therefore raised you in the Jewish faith...little did we know Spain was involved.

Jay's family goes way back to the earliest settlers in East Hampton...of course on his maternal side they were from Norway, matter of fact his mother came through Ellis Island when she was 3.

Most university courses are for 3 years ,but Gary is doing a 4 year masters course. He may specialise in Astrophysics in the final year.It does seem a bit quiet around the house now that Gary has gone, and we have the time all to ourselves.

I've learned that when it comes to Sephardic genealogy, spelling is meaningless. It is influenced by the country of residence. In Turkey, where the hard 'C' sound is only represented by a K, the name was spelled Kaneti. The Canetti spelling was more or less influenced by arrival in Ellis Island and the immigration officials spelling the name the way it sounded to them.

Ashley, I figured it'd be cold. Sunderland is up near Newcastle and I don't know if Sara knows what cold is yet :) The only thing I know, is if I come over to visit her, she better be able to get me tickets to a local match. Newcastle would be great, but I'll take the local club. It would have been better last year, when one of our American Internationals was playing there.

Hi Denise,
great to hear from you again. The letters you mentioned (ASCRS)don't ring a bell with me. Since John is now in solo practice, he can pretty much do any trip he wants as long as it's related to his field. Let me know the general details and I can check it out. Offhand, I'm thinking that May is probably not a good month to travel since we'll have 3 graduations (HS, college and grad school) in addition to moving Jen back home. San Diego is such a great city.....just love all those Mexican restaurants in Old Town.

Is this your first time seeing the Macy's parade live? If so, you're gonna love it. Hmmm, so "Wicked is already sold out.....did you try the Wednesday matinee? The evening shows usually go first.
What about "Aida"? That's always been a favorite of mine. There's lots of good stuff out there right now. You can try TKTS in Times Square for same day greatly reduced tickets , but you'll have to pay with cash and may end up sitting separately all over the theatre. Pick up a copy of the NY Times (B&N and Borders always carry it) and you'll get to see in a nutshell what's currently playing. While you're whooping it up in NY I'll be slaving over a hot stove......my 2 NY sisters and their families are coming to NC for Thanksgiving dinner!

ASCRS is the academy of cataract and refractive surgeons. They have a web site I think it's ASCRS.com The only graduation we have is set for June 5th. With an outdoor Now all we have to worry about is the 17 year locust!

We'll take cash and do the TKTS thing and see what we get. As long as it's a musical most of the family will be happy.

We have done Macy's once before, Chelsea was in the parade in 2000. So I'll be ready for the cold and the long wait.
You can take heart that while you are nice and warm over that stove I'll be shivering.

John only does retina and vitreous...in fact, he refers all the C&R stuff out, so that trip isn't an option for us.
BTW, we'll be somewhat in your neck of the woods this Saturday.
Jen has a swim meet against Navy and since we've never visited Annapolis, we decided to drive up. It's going to be another whirlwind trip (seems that's all I have these days). We plan to leave early Saturday morning to catch the 12 noon start. Jenni's had a bad bout of homesickness lately so her coach is letting her spend the night with us (as opposed to going back on the team bus) and she'll return the next morning with another teammate and her mom. They have family in the Annapolis area, so the coach is graciously giving both girls permission to stay. I think Jen plans for us to have dinner with them as we have never met the other girl's mom. We're staying at the Mariott Residence Inn for one night. I don't know if that's anywhere near you, but if it is, maybe you and Andy can meet us for a drink. Unfortunately, it will not be a conch cooler......

Actually, since speaking with an advisor, I've changed from looking at University of Sunderland to Brunel University in London. Since it's not as far north, I'm guessing it won't be as cold, but apparently it might get a bit foggy!:p And dad, how did I guess that if you came to visit me in England, that it would somehow coincide with a soccer game? :scratchin

ashleydoc
11-05-2003, 05:04 AM
Sara,
Brunel sounds like a much more sensible choice.
Sorry to disappoint you but we dont get fogs any more in London since the air was cleaned up about 20 years ago.We also dont get much rain now. This summer it didnt rain much either the driest since resords began ,so these days rainy London is also a myth.

If you go to brunel and live in London you will have a ball ,so many things to do.

Sandy,
Now you will have a chance to see some good UK soccer teams and an excuse for visiting London,Sara will have to get busy Buying tickets so I suggest you persuade her London is best.

As you know in London we have:-
Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea
Arsenal
Fulham
Leyton orient
Charlton
Queens park Rangers
Watford-(which is probably the nearest to Brunel)
Wimbledon

On a more serious note brunel is rated as a much better university than Sunderland in the UK.

Are you sure you guys don't want to switch to th 8/7 cruise? Now that everybody knows one another it would be a blast! There is no way under the sun we'll be doing the cruise again in 2005, unless of course I win the lottery!
Don't be a stranger,
Jeanne

Don't know where all you guys were, but John, Jen and I viewed the eclipse with Denise and Andy in Annapolis this past weekend!
That's right, Jen had a swim meet against Navy so we decided to drive up to see her. It was our first time in Annapolis and it's such a picturesque historic city we can't wait to go back and see more.
In any event, we had a great time "bar hopping"....... as my lovely daughter inaccurately described it!
Oh Wendy, great science teacher, were you able to see it in Scotland as clearly as we did here? I guess it was around 8:30pm for us when the full eclipse occurred which must have made it already Sunday morning in the UK.

so how much of the lunar eclipse did you all really see???
Sounds like you had a great weekend. Kristofer, Courtney and I watched the eclipse at Nana's house....Jay was at Southampton College for the 2nd performance of "Company"...this was opening weekend. We're going to see it on Sunday and then I'll go again the final week with my sister and brother-in-law.
We just realized that Courtney's friend Courtney is now living in Annapolis. Her dad is in the Coast Guard and stationed there now. Should find out if she's in Andy's school district, of course she's only in 4th grade....nice girl She's Courtney W. as she was known here because of our Courtney...Courtney B.
Happy Veteran's Day to all!

Sorry folks - life is kind of passing me by at the moment so didn't see the eclipse.
We had an interesting Remembrance Parade yesterday at school (our equivalent of Veterans Day) - 11 pupils passed out and 1 fainted with such force she actually burst open her chin. They had looked so wonderful up to that point - so proud to be doing their bit to remember those that sacrificied so much for them.

Wendy - what caused them to pass out?

We think a combination of excitement and heat - it was an indoor event. They were only standing for about 10 minutes but it could have been that. Definitely something we won't forget in a hurry!

That reminds me of a time when I was putting myself through college photographing weddings. We did a Greek Orthodox wedding in Huntington, NY, in the summer. It was a hot day and the church had no air conditioning. It had to be 120 degrees inside. Greek Orthodox wedding ceremonies tend to be long and the reception was after the wedding, meaning nobody had eaten anything. I forgot how many ushers and bridesmaids had to sit down during the ceremony for fear of passing out. I lost my light man to the heat.

But yes it was freezing in Annapolis too. Fortunately there aren't many street lights to obscure the view. But then again we did watch most it from the upper floor of McGarvey's tavern.

Now if they could just start making white russian smoothies like that on the ship;) It still wouldn't replace my beloved Conk Cooler.

Shelley, all of Anne Arundle Co. is technically one large school district which makes it the 17th largest in the country. Andy is currently at Meade Middle School which is on the Grounds of Fort Meade military base. This means he HAS to drive his car on school days since it is the only one with the proper clearence stickers on it.

Sandy, I've been to quite a few of those weddings. The one on the island of Cyprus was definately the most memorable. Andy was the Gumbas (best man) for his brother who married the daughter of the local preist. It was July in Cyprus where air conditioning is unheard of, the Church was packed and they had no less the eight preist officating. I guess everyone wanted to get into the act. The ceremony took hours!!!!!!! Poor Andy, he stood there straight silent and unsmiling through everything, including kissing the rings of all the preist.

The things one does for ones' brother.::yes::

Hi Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, we went to Hilton Head for thanksgiving and just loved it. Dh and both DS played golf. We ar edefinitely making this a traditon. WE met so many nice people and many DVC members who come every year at that time. Can't wait to go back We've been busy. My son became an Eagle scout and we had the ceremony over the weekend. We were quite proud of him . We are in the midst of unplanned home renovation-the roofing contractor didn't cover the roof properly during a rainstorm and we had a lot of water damage. Good news is the house wil look great when all the damage fixedin the living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, etc. is finished. Dowenside is that I can't put a tree up yet- hopefully enough will be done thsi weekend so we can get one up.Hope everyone is doing o.k. wishing everyone has a happy holiday and a very happy new year.

Wow, Wendy, sounds like you've been pretty busy! Congrats on (I assume) Matthew making Eagle scout. That mileston is definitely something to be proud of.

We love Hilton Head and we're due for a trip back. We haven't been there since Christmas 1999.

thanks sandy Matthew worked really hard to become an Eagle Scout. He's home for a month from college. It's good to have him back. Really wish we were cruising this year but we just can't swing it. I read about the changes on the ship. Sounds like some good things happening. They sanded my wood floors today so I'm stuck in my basement until late tonight- it's greatcause i can stay on the dis boards till the kids come home. Say hi to your family .

Congrats on your son making Eagle Scout. Ask Anna if she ever determined if it really was my husband that her husband saw in NY (see posts at the top of this page).
We are having a big Christmas party this weekend for John's staff and the staff of the other doctor who shares his office. With spouses, it should be about 24 people, so between now and then I won't be on this board much. Ugh, how I hate to clean! At least I won't have to cook because the food is being brought in.
After that, I'll feel like the holidays belong to me and not "obligations". Maybe even have time for cookie-making and the like. Still working on getting the holiday cards out.........Have a happy, everyone......

Yes, we are. We're driving down to visit my folksin Boca Raton and what's a trip to Florida without a stop in WDW? We're leaving tomorrow as soon a Seth gets home from college. He's got a final that ends at 2:30pm! Of all the dumb luck. We'll leave as soon as he gets home and drive to Towson to pick Sara. We'll stay overnight in Towson and continue Saturday morning. We should make it to northern Georgia and stay at motel overnight. By that time, it'll only be about five hours to Orlando. We'll spend Sunday night in Pleasure Island and Monday in EPCOT and MK, since we want to see the two attractions that opened after we were there in July - Mission:Space and Mickey's Philharmagic. We figure to leave Orlando by 7:00pm so that we don't get to my folks too late. I didn't want to stay any longer in WDW this trip, since we haven't visited my folks in Florida since 1998 (wow, I just double-checked. I didn't realize it was that long). Before youguys start thinking I'm a lousy son, they're snowbirds, so we do seem them half of the year :)

The advantage of my new job is that since I work remote anyway, I can work a little from down there, so I don't lose the whole four days (you know how it is, as a consultant, you don't work you don't get paid. Not like all you people that have real jobs with benefits and the like :)

Btw, last night was Elana's Winter Concert. I had included a picture of Elana singing here, but I was threatened that if I didn't remove it, I would suffer the dreaded "Silent treatment".

Hi all
Wendy - congratulations on Matthew becoming an eagle scout - a great achievement. I hope the rest of the renovations go well.
Jeanne - good luck with the party. My mum is still wishing she could have joined you in Disneyland. I am taking her to Amsterdam for New Year but it isn't the same!
Sandy - you will love the new ride/show. My brother is just back from Orlando with his girlfriend. He is very hard to please but he did enjoy those - they both loved MVMCP. Of course it helped that I told them they could get in at 4pm so they managed to do a lot of the rides before the start of the party. Big sisters have their uses!
We finish school tomorrow thank goodness.
Have a great holidays everyone.
Love
Wendy

Hello again everyone. I do not receive e-mail notifications which is really frustrating for any thread I start or reply to. I have tried more than once to do a search for this thread and could not find it (typed in wrong words?).

Jeanneg, I can now tell my dh that it was your dh that he saw. I think he was surprised and maybe not sure it if was him. I will tell him later. Can I put this specific thread in my favorites? PM if you have started this thread and I will check it. Thanks. Gotta go to work now. Anna

I'm sitting typing this on my father's computer. I forgot how slow dial up service is!

Anna - I noticed that your next trip is two weeks after we cruise. What you need to do is change your plans and join us on the August 7th cruise. Come on, you know you want to.

We got our one day in at EPCOT and MK. ACtually it was two days, since we got to WDW in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday. We ate at Planet Hollywood and spent the evening in PI. I didn't realize that the girls never really experienced the Adventurer's Club or the Comedy Warehouse. On Monday, We started out in EPCOT, where Seth, Sara and I rode Mission: Space and then met Judy and Elana on Test Track. M:S is a great attraction! Forget all the scares about barf bags and motion sickness. As long as you follow the rules, you'll do fine. We finished off with a trip on SSE before heading to MK to check out Mickey's Philharmagic and some other favorite rides. Actually, considering how crowded MK was, we got a lot accomplished before leaving at 6:00 to head down to Boca Raton.

Have a very happy holiday to you all and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
