Since it's already past midnight, I can honestly say this is the last day I'll ever be 40-something! Tomorrow is the big dreaded day, but I really can't complain. You see, DH has a conference at the Venetian in Las Vegas and we're all going along to celebrate. Even my son from LA will be joining us as well as my older daughter, so I'm really excited about that. Best of all, we've got tickets for Celine! To commemorate my many years, I'm going to put $50 into the DOLLAR slots (something I'm way too frugal to have ever done before!) Now, I was SUPPOSED to go skydiving for the big day, but that kinda panned out when the trip developed. (Whew!) So instead I'm gonna ride that roller coaster on top of the stratosphere! (I can save the skydiving for my 60th!) Wish me luck.
OK, here's the deal: If I hit a jackpot, sailaway drinks are on me -for real! SO, it's in your best interest to send some good vibes this way!
I'm leaving later on today, so I don't know if I'll get back to this board until Monday.....SO MUCH to do! Keep it going, the cruise is only a month away.
Talk to you soon,
(Old) Jeanne

Carl - judging by your daughter's names, shouldn't you be spelling your name "Karl"? :)

Jeanne-Happy Birthday! You don't look a day over 39 :) Have a great time in Vegas and I hope that $50 wins you enough to pay for all our cruises ;)

If you guys that just gave me additional information will email me your email addresses to canetti@optonline.net, I'll send you the up-to-date list.

Happy birthday for tomorrow!!! Have a wonderful time in Las Vegas. You will love the Venetian, it is a gorgeous hotel. You are very brave for doing the roller coaster - even my mum didn't do that one!! Definitely sending you good vibes for the slots!
The latest plan for my mum is indoor skydiving. She knows nothing about it and when there was a programme about Orlando on they actually showed it - her words, she wouldn't do it!! Well the vouchers are already bought so she has no choice - aren't I a kind daughter!
Sandy - the webpage is great!
Amy, at Palos we usually wear a sundress or skirt and top during the day. A nice dress at night. I think they request no shorts but I may be wrong!

Happy Birthday. Sending a planeload of pixie dust to greet you and sprinkle on those dollar slot machines.

Sounds like a great time will be had.

I faxed the brunch request, now we just have to wait and see.

That is a great list.

For all of those staying at the Radisson by the port, here is my thought, I would love to do an informal gathering by the pool side at the hotel. Sounds like many of those that will be there will have children to introduce, I know my girls (9 and 10) would love to meet some of the others that will be cruising with us. We will be there the 3rd and 4th.

I havent gotten any documents yet. I am also getting stressed at the thought of packing. I have to work almost up to the minute that we leave. I guess I better get it together.

Bye for now!!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the scene but am excited to report that we will be going on the July 5th cruise as "First Timers" .

We are from San Diego. My DH, my DD (5), and DS(3). Actually, my son's B-day isn't until July 2nd (he'll be old enough then for the O Club). There are 14 of us total (family and friends).

July 4th we will be at Port Orleans; anyone else.

Thank you for the Welcome!!! I would have responded sooner, but we were at Disneyland (Anaheim) for the day. Driving back up tomorrow with DH for dinner at Club 33 (first time).

We are in room 7532 and have early seating. I don't know how they are going to seat 14 of us....I'm sure they will just place us in tables next to each other if they can't squeeze us together.

Has anybody been to Club 33 for dinner? I don't know what to wear.

Club 33 Really!!!! I am so excited for you. That is one of my Disney Dreams. I can't wait to here all about it. I hope you are brining some Disney Land pins to trade. I love my Flordia pins but California has much nicer ones.

Brunch: As for brunch right now it is scheduled for the first sea day. I told them we were flexible as to the time. I hope to hear back from them soon as I faxed them on Wednesday. If not, I'll just ask for seating for 14 during the ressie scramble and let everyone know the time at the sailaway party.

Bubbles: I was thinking of brining a six pack of bubbles just to give out to the smaller ones so they don't get bored at our sailaway party. I know there are party stores that carry them a wedding favors, so I might try there.

Documents: I got a letter from AAA yesterday but so far no documents. I am starting to get worried.

Mini golf: Joan that is a great idea. We were thinking of doing the golf in the late afternoon or early evening when it cools off. I think that is the night of the Teen Fury cruise so Chelsea won't be with us.

I'm up for the minigolf. I have gotten several little goodies for the boys to give out one a day or so as we will be in Orlando for three days and then the port for two. I got a handheld bubble blower machine type thing at Walmart for three dollars that hooks to the smaller bottles. I plan on giving that to them at the sailaway party. I hope they work.

Any DVCers gotten documents yet? If I don't hear anything by middle of next week I am going to call to remind them that I will actually be leaving home the week before we sail.

P.S. My husband is worried he is not going to enjoy the cruise :p

I'm going to look for that bubble thing next time I'm at walmart otherwise I'll just get small bottles of bubbles.

We were going to golf in the late afternoon or early evening as our excursion won't be over 'till then.

I like the glow in the dark stuff. They gave it to the teen during an night time activity last year or the year before.

Dis Mama - pardon my ignorance, but what is Club 33? I'm so envious that you were in Disneyland. The last time we were there was 19 years ago.

I'm planning on doing minigolf too, after dinner, while Elana is on the Fury Catamaran.

Amy - just tell you husband not to worry. While there are bunk beds on this cruise, the adults get to sleep side-by-side in queen-size beds. He doesn't get mess duty and nobody will be calling for general quarters :)

Club 33 is that exclusive restaurant at Disneyland on top of Pirates of the Carribean and next to the Blue Bayou. There is a three year waiting list to become a member ($20,000 a year for corporate memberships!!). It was originally designed to be Walt's family apartments before he passed away. You have to ring to get up to the top and you have to be a member or guests of a member with reservations in advance.

We are going as guests. You can look up all the cool and "secret" info on the internet. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm going to be pretend to be "Hoity Toity" for a night:rolleyes:

Today it was K-mart for an over the door shoe holder for all the lotions, shampoo etc. etc. I also found nautical themed mickey and tigger shirts for myself and hope, computer paper to make Disney tatoo's (half price).

Then it was off to the party store where I found 24 small bottles of bubbles (they look like little wedding cakes) for 9.99. So if anyone forgets the bubbles I'll have them covered.

I wish the cruise was NOW!!! I had the national meeting for my exam marking today (away from 6am till 8pm) and it is 10 times harder than you first think! So I need the thought of the cruise to keep me going.
I am so jealous of the thought of Club 33 - the nearest we have got is the elevator, have a wondeful time!

Those staying at the Radisson, meet at the pool.

High tea on first day at sea and brunch at Palos on the second day at sea. Do I need to do anything for those when I get on board or is everything set thru the fax?

Is that it or did I miss something? Is there going to be a special get together for this website group? The last cruise we were on there was a cruisecritics party.

the last two year it was a plastic mug with a top and hole for a straw and yes you do have to carry it around. I'm not sure we washed our just rinced them out. My teen son would just bring one "home" from the teen center every day YUK! I have read on other thread that they are putting stickers on you KTTW card and you get the mug but just show your card and get drinkk in a clean cup. You sound like you are on the right track. Chelsea put her name on her's last trip so she could find it in the teen club (note to self add black sharpie to the packing list) I am bringing a small bottle of dishwashing liquid since we'll have five mugs and I can use it for bathing suits. If I run out I'll use the leftover bubbles:p

Despite having the mugs I am thinking of hauling a couple of six packs of bottled water in the carry on's. If I remember bottled water was about 2.50 a peice and that is something I will want to carry off the ship into Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

I have a question for the Radison folks. How are you getting to the port? Having a designated driver drop off family and luggage and then going back to park the car and take the shuttle, or getting everyone into the shuttle. I can see pro's and cons to both ways of doing things. I still have no idea what time we will actually be getting to the hotel. The band director is making noises about the local 4th of July parade being "mandatory" for band officers. This will throw a major monkey wrench into our plans.

As for brunch, I still haven't gotten a reply to my fax. So plan B is for me to be first in line for Palo ressies and ask for a table for 14. That means DH will be in the spa line with my "spa shopping list"

Wendy. . .coming from a house with a teacher, hang in there the end is in sight. If you are anything like our local teachers you have a countdown calander up in the break room.;)

eyeRN:About the water--I read on a board that there is a grocery store at Key West and people shop there for water and soda instead of hauling it in the suit case.

About bubbles--I found a pack of 24 little bottles at walmart-they came in four different colors-so if some one forget we should have extra.

Thanks for reminding me about a perment marker-my list grow and I'm thinkin maybe just take everything in the house-perhaps they would let me stay on the ship permently.:Pinkbounc

We have discussed this in depth - probably to much - this is our plan:

We were going to have the guys drive women and children to the port in the morning - then have them return to the hotel to park the car and have them walk back to the port or maybe grab a taxi. I am still uncertain how close the hotel is to the port??????? any clue?

I need to find the list to print everyones locations on ship - now I have a printer to go with my new computer........some of us are slower than others.

I intend to be poolside on friday afternoon and/or evening at the hotel to meet everyone - I may have my girls make a little sign or something cute to identify all of poolside at the Raddisson. I am thinking Friday after dinner might be a great idea so that those late arrivers might be more likely to make it.

My girls (9 & 10) are wondering about what toys to bring on ship if any. I somehow think they will be pressed to find any downtime. But if any of the girls have input for Ariel and Mariah - please PM and maybe the girls can talk.

I cannot believe it is this close - I have made a packing list - only because my private cruise director has shamed me into it (sjbakerus).

Bye for now!

Most certainly counting down! Marked 80 papers so far (but haven't added them up! I aim to get them all marked this week so I can spend the final week doing the last minute school work and planning for the trip!
You wouldn't be able to walk to the port but because they won't have any luggage are likely to be able to get into the next shuttle - I think a taxi would be less than $10.

I think we will just all pile into the shuttle from the Raddison. Does anyone know if the Raddison has onsite laundry facility? I am planning on either doing a load of clothes before leaving the All Stars or at the Raddison so that I only have to pack half as much.

Here's the link for the cruise list for anyone that cannot find it:

DIS Boards Cruise List (http://www.canettifamily.com/July 5th DIS Cruise List.doc)

The Travel Channel had a half hour show on the Cayman Islands. It started off with a bit on Stingray City. Now I'm really psyched!

If I am a first time cruiser can I still wear those Mickey's from Home Depot to identify myself?

gometros
06-08-2003, 03:13 PM
Sure. The Mickey heads aren't so much about how many times you've cruised, but to identify yourself as a member of these boards. The key is the color - lime green. The recent discovery of the MIckey heads just made it more appropriate.

(Btw, I still havent done anything with mine. I found pin backs, but I have no idea how to laminate them. Crafty, I'm not :)

Is there something about the color lime green? I don't get it:confused:
I thought about pin backs and I have some . I think it would be best to glue gun them on. How about putting them on card stock? Has anyone tried that?

Ah Joan, this is always the highlight of DH's trips.;)

The cruise line does refer to it in one of the old commercials. The one with the little child talking on the elevator.

inkcognito (close but probably not right) has a report on it at
http://www.*****************[/URL]

Usually it involves your spouse, three different types of mud, a steam room a shower, a bunch of aromatherapy goodies a locked door and a little imgination. (I can hear the teens on this board screaming " ugh!! too much information") She does a great job of describing it.

A sense of playful adventure and a desire to try something completely different is helpful.

AAA book says that the Raddison has both valet and coin laundry. They also have irons and hair dryers.

gometros: If you don't have access to a laminating machine, you can find sheets of clear contact paper and sandwich the mickey inbetween. Check at an office supply store. Glue gun would work for the pins or Elmers (but it will take a while to dry).

Is the water not safe to drink on the ship? We brought bottles and refilled them with tap on our last cruise.

It sure is a lot different packing for kids! When will it end... cast off can not come soon enought!

Just got back this morning and found a confirmation for High Tea on my email. We're all set for 3:30 on Thursday (2nd Sea Day). I thought we had the days all straightened out, but after reading all the new postings, I think there's still some confusion. We switched tea to the SECOND sea day because so many of us qualify for the Castaway Club reception and didn't want it to interfere with tea. Here's the list of who's going:
Jeanne and John (jeanneg and DH)
Sandy and Judy (gometros and DW)
Wendy and Doreen (wendym and mum)
Denise and Andy (eyeRN and DH)
Shelley and Jay (sbennett and DH)
Sue (sjbakerus)
Audrey (ablyinpgva)
Amy and Jesse (luv2boys and DH)
That makes 14, so the list is closed. If anyone changes their mind please let me know.

Sorry guys.....you'll have to buy your own drinks: the slot machines were not very kind to me! On another note, Celine was phenonmenal, but Siegfried & Roy were a tremendous (and expensive) disappointment. I should have used the money from that venture and put it towards partying on the cruise! Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes. I did the Stratosphere roller coaster and it was truly LAME!

Sandy: the list looks GREAT...thanks for all your hard work in putting it together. BTW, we have LATE seating.

DIS Mama: Welcome to the group! Wow, if I had known 14 more were joining us, I probably would not have made that offer about hitting the jackpot! (just kidding) BTW, you may very well be placed at a single table. When we cruised on Disney before, the table next to us had about 16 people and I think they all knew one another.

Still have not yet received my docs.....I understand this is fairly typical if you book through DVC.

Jeanne - thanks so much for arranging that. The high tea is the one thing we didn't get to do on our last cruise. It's seems to be a hard ticket. I'm excited about trying it and with new friends.

So sorry about your lack of luck. I was so looking forward to one less thing I had to pay for :D

I've updated the list.

Brunch folks: Yep I asked for Monday. Still haven't heard about brunch. At this point, I think it will be the ressie scramble.

The water on the ship is fine, so brining you own bottles should be good. I just remember my last trip to Mexico, made the mistake of rinsing my toothbruch with tap water.

Also, I had previously posted Denise's husband as "Jesse" and i just corrected that to show his name as "Andy" (trying to stir up a little scandal by mismatching husbands and wives!) So we're all confirmed for Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in the private room......sounds like fun!

Someone just mentioned the nautical Disney "collection" at K-Mart.....prepare to be a "twin".......I bought a whole bunch of those tops weeks ago and have been saving them for the cruise!

Sue: you asked me about Cabin 6042......we thought it was great!
It was just a little forward of mid-ship so we hardly ever took the elevators anywhere. Everything was either just a few floors up or down and it was so much quicker taking the stairs. We never heard any noise and the view was always good. It's funny, but the last time we cruised we booked during October also.
P.S. When do your kids swim Heritage? Jenni and Jason are both lifeguards there, so I'll come to the "meet" and "meet" you.

The original plan was to leave about 3pm on the 4th and get about 7 hrs of driving time in, then spend the night somewhere on I-95. That would leave us with another 3 hours of driving on the day we set sail. If my kids can get the entire day off, we just may leave earlier and join up with everyone at the Radisson. Does the hotel truly "allow" you to park your vehicle in their lot for the entire duration of the cruise, or you do have to be "sneaky" about it? I'm such a goody 2-shoes, I'll spend the whole cruise thinking my car is going to get towed away! Since we have to pay for a hotel anyway, this plan definitely makes sense from an economic standpoint. I'm not sure what the work situation for my kids is yet. July 4th is a BIG day at the pool and it would mean that they both would be gone. I just checked online and there are still cheap rooms available at the Radisson, so we may be joining you there afterall.

I noticed in the Disney guide that the kids club doesn't allow the kids to swim. Is there an age limit on their slide and do you have to have a parent there for them to use it? Also, do the councelors make sure the kids keep putting on sunscreen? My kids are very fair and are redheads.

Thanks!

Joanb: I have no clue how the idea of lime green ribbons originated, but I know that it has to do with identifying people who participate on the DIS boards. Although many of us own DVC, it has nothing to do with the green ribbons. When somebody discovered the Mickey heads at Home Depot, it was decided the green ones would function nicely as name tags. Don't agonize over the shade of green. The first few times I went to HD there were no sonic greens available so I took a bunch of the gamma sector and alien greens. I'm sure we'll spot you no matter what shade of green you wear. BTW, I know my kids won't wear name tags and my husband will probably only use it during sailaway, so don't feel bad about that. Once we get to recognize who's in our group, I probably won't continue to wear mine either!

sbennett-Hi there fellow "first-time cruiser". I read about the credit in these boards. I called the DCL directly and requested the first time cruiser credit. The Code now is CTC (it used to be REF). They actually asked me for the code and then just applied it. She stated it would not show up on our docs because they are already completed, but it would be on the ship as a voucher. I've heard that others have sometimes had problems on the ship receiving it, but after discussion with the cruise people on board got the credit. I got the name of the DCL phone rep for verfication.

Let me know if it works!!!!

06-11-2003, 12:58 PM
Hi Dis Mama....well I'm glad you had more luck than me...DCL rep told me I had to get a Castaway Club card from someone who has sailed before that basically refers me to DCL and then I have to call them with the card # and when I get to the ship they would give me a $50 (oops she slipped and said the amount) credit to my shipboard account. I told her I had "the code" but she wouldn't do it.....apparently the veteran sailors have a packet from DCL with Castaway club stuff which has these elusive cards......anyone have one they're not using?

After giving it some thought, I came to the conclusion that the deal at the Radisson is just too good to pass up, so we'll also be staying there the night before the cruise. One of the things we really want to do is check out Verandah Man's favorite restaurant, so I'm thinking that if all goes well, we should arrive about 9pm. Is that too late to meet anybody? I read that you cannot put medications in checked baggage. Is that right? I will carry Nicholas' "important meds" with me in the carry on, but wanted to also bring things like Tylenol, cough meds, Pepto, things like that. Can I not pack those in my suitcase?

What about bottled water? Wanted to pack it (about six bottles) in my suitcase because it will be so heavy to carry in a carry on.

Joan it is "going on a diet now so I can lose 10lbs to gain back 3 at the brunch alone" good. Conk Coolers, lava cake, creme brulee and chocolate soufle will acount for the rest.

The cost is $10 but they start you off with Mimosa's so I figure that's a few bucks right there.

Sandy LOL thanks for the offer but I know the route and I'll be taking the stairs two at time. The smoke trail you see will be me burning up the carpet;)

hi all! well it was quick but it was great. to see the kids march down main street was unbelievable and then the next day the band front performed at the dock sage in front of world of disney . it was great. we did some damage $$ in all the shops, sent home some wine glasses!!! now disney has lenox figureines. unfortunalely the old line has been discontinued. except for the 2003 one w/ mickey. we have a curio of mickey and minnie 's my dh got very lucky at the character wharehouse outlet in the belz plaza mall. he wears 3x tall and they had 3 shirts for 9.99 then i get 10% off there so he lucked out. believe it or not there were no good sweatshirts to be found. all the shops seem to have the same things but we had fun buying things. some cute t shirts that you will see me wear on the cruise!!! we stayed at the boardwalk and beachclub, { for 1/2 price} disney store castmamber rate. they bothe were sooooo relaxing. treated ourselves to dinner at the yacthsman steakhouse yum$ . saw all the night shows. it was so hot and they had cold and rain in new hersey. and to think in less than a month we'll be there again!!!! we stay at the grand floridian from the 2nd to the 5 then on to the dcl!!! we came back to lots of ceremony's at the high school and the senior prom we had pictures at our house so its like having a party. a local town parade tomrrow and the band banquet and i'm still ironing our clothes from the band trip!!! i need some organization but there is no time. we got our docs but barely looked at them wel just wanted to touch base with the partyiers on our cruise!!! cocktail on deck 10 !!! sweet dreams lisa

Welcome back, Lisa....sounds like your trip was awesome!

Joanb....you are a girl after my own heart - - - if someone is going to prepare , serve AND clean-up after my meals, I'll eat mush and it will taste good to me! I'm also passing on the brunch. I have had a lifelong battle with the bulge and make it a point to never, ever do a buffet. Having all that delicious food just there for the taking is more than I can deal with. Aside from the embarkment lunch and CC, I'll be avoiding buffets like the plague. That way I can save my splurges for the really good stuff like the Palo souffle and Lava cake (which I haven't yet tried but sounds so good!)

Speaking of Palo, what night is everyone planning on going? I've been looking at the menus and plan to reserve for Monday evening. That's assuming we get the LAP rotation and it's our first night in Parrot Cay. I'm thinking that it probably gets more crowded the later in the cruise you reserve so we should have a good shot if we're anywhere near the front of the line. Lord knows I do not want to be anywhere even remotely close to Denise's path!!!

Note for High Tea attendees: I will be forwarding to your personal email addresses the confirmation I received from DCL regarding our ressie. I strongly suggest you each make a copy of it and bring it along on the cruise. I don't think they would reneg on our reservation if we show them the proof. I will forward this to everybody who has signed up for the tea and has their personal email on Sandy's list.

Lisa to you work at TDS? If so which one? We need to get together and talk. My daughter is president of the school choir and yesterday we got the The Scoop (the youth group information, not the TDS newsletter) in the mail, so it looks like they are serious about going.

Jeanne, I understand your battle - I am still fighting it and have so many sets of clothes depending on the weight!
Haven't thought what night for Palo's yet but with the change in menu for Parrot Cay we want to try it this time. Last year we thought we would get LAP, being two adults but didn't. Christophe, our head server last year (but was head server in Palos the year before) still remembers me as the lady with the spreadsheet with all the different options for brunch, High Tea and evening meal!

By now, everyone who signed up for the tea (with the exception of Audrey, whose email I don't have) should have received a forwarded copy of the confirmation DCL sent me. Doesn't seem to be any doubt about it.....we've got the room. I predict there will be mutiny on the ship if they decide not to honor it.

I too understand the battle, since diabetes runs in our family I try to be really good about keeping the weight reasonable, but as I get older it does get harder. The longer I can hold off going on daily drugs the better.

As for Palo's for dinner, I think we are going to try for the first Animators Palate night. We've seen the show and that is the menu that least appeals to us.

Much depends on our request to have Maclean as our head waiter. Our travel agent is not holding out a lot of hope for that to happen. So we may have to try and switch dining assignments after we get on the boat. It is a testament to his good service that all three of the kids are insisting on this.

We've found a dog/house/plant sitter yipee one more thing off the list!

On a completely different note. Happy fathers day to all of our list Dad's.

Keep the prayers going for our son Corey...he's back in the hospital and off all his anti-depressants because his heart condition started acting up and they're not sure if it's from the meds or it's his heart on it's own....if it's the latter, they may be considering doing a cardia ablation....we have to wait and see, the trip may be up in the air (I hope not....we've been planning this for over a year now)

Gee, I haven't been on the boards for three days and this is all the posts since? You guys are either busy packing or not excited enough.

We're going to try for Tuesday for Palos, with Monday night as a second choice.

Two more weeks from now and we'll be whizzing south through Virginia on the Auto Train.

Don't worry, Shelley, it will all be fine. I'll be praying extra hard that things work out for Corey and I'm sure the rest of this board will be pulling for you also. Keep the faith. Lord knows you and your family can really use a vacation.

Sandy: I think the boards were down for quite some time today. I tried several times to access them and couldn't until now.

I am completely packed! (In my mind, that is!). I made a list of every actual outfit I will wear on a day-by-day basis, so I now know precisely what to bring. I've got everything set aside and all I have to do is pack the darn stuff when the time comes. Since I don't plan on paying someone to iron my stuff, I probably won't physically pack until the day before, but at least I know exactly what's going with me. Whew, it's such a relief to know that's accomplished!

Random Question: Any chance there are some euchre-playing couples on our cruise? My husband and I just learned how to play about a year ago and we love it! We belong to a group that meets monthly and I thought it might be fun to bring a deck of cards and stake out a corner of the Promenade Lounge. Let me know if anyone is interested.

sbennett-I'm new to these boards, but my thoughts and my prayers will be with Corey and your family.

joanb-I've lost 36 pounds since the end of January with the Disney Cruise as one goal. I have to shop for a new wardrobe and it is expensive!!! I plan on wearing a 2-piece a couple times for the first time since before having kids even though I'm not quite ready yet (20 more pounds to goal weight). I just hate to have my stomach get all white....Yuck. How much have you lost? Oh...BTW I am doing Weight Watchers, but will not be counting points on the cruise!!!

Congratulations, DisMama, on your successful weight loss. I'll be wearing a 2-piece also: maillot and cover-up!!!!!! I really tried to take it off for the cruise, but it just didn't happen. I'm fifty now - I don't have to make any excuses if I don't measure up (or down, as the case may be) to anybody's expectations. I never let anything interfere with having a good time and I never, ever take myself too seriously! Life is way too short for that.

Joanb: We were originally taught the 6-card version, but some other couples preferred the 5-card (more standard) version, so the group switched over to that one. We can play both versions although we're not all that good at either!

About the packing: I just want to clarify that I'm not really all that organized. I just have a passion for packing light and if I can plan out exactly what I'll be wearing, I won't have to burden myself down with clothing I'll never use.

joanb

Dis Mamma, you go girl. Wear that two piece!! I am taking a 12 day vacation from the diet and plan to enjoy every good thing (in moderation) that the cruise has to offer.

Jeanne, you are a wonder. In my next life I want to be half as organized as you. I can't figure out how to pack lite for myself let alone three kids and a husband. Too many variables for this trip, the dining rotation has me stumped. After the lifeboat drill will our clothes be so sticky that we'll need to change for dinner? We can do casual at Luminaires but it seems out of place somehow. Tea and brunch have me wondering too. Is a skort too casual? Mexican night, I don't have a clue for that one. Then there are the two days drive down and three days at WDW, which will be hot hot hot. I am saving the plastic bags from the drycleaners for the dresses and suits, it really cut down on the ironing last trip.

06-17-2003, 07:38 PM
All of you make me feel so unorganized. I have basically started a pile. I have made a list. But I cant imagine actually putting this pile into bags and living off it for 10 days. I live in VA - so maybe one of the organized cruisers from Jersey could swing by my house on their way to Florida to get me all packed and organized. Just a thought -

Only 17 days to go - I guess I better get busy.

As far as weight loss - I cant bear to think about it - I am trying to drop a few pounds, but at the last minute really.

Good luck to all.

My thoughts will be with Corey as well.

Nicholas has his MRI tomorrow morning. We spent the day at St. Jude today having a several things checked up on and everything was perfectly fine for him. Doctor told him to have a great time. Not experiencing any symptoms so expect the MRI to be the same as three months ago. Of course, I always hope for shrinkage.

Thanks for asking about Corey...he's still in the hospital but hopefully will be released over the weekend or beginning of the week. Psychiatrist says shouldn't be any problem with him going on the cruise/vacation....from her lips to God's ears! They're still adjusting the meds to figure out which one is affecting his heart condition, they've narrowed it down...so we're not sure about his having to have the cardiac ablation done (it'll wait until after the cruise/vacation with no problem) as a matter of fact he doesn't have an appt with his cardiologist until 7/25. We go and see him daily 120 mile round trip...we're exhausted and will be MORE than ready for the vacation, of course with all the traveling back and forth I haven't gotten things 100% or even 50% organized for packing....plus we have to find the keys for the car top carrier!
I never looked in KMart, but Walmart didn't have them....guess I'll have to make another shopping trip. Thanks.

as for the OTDSH, I got mine last time at K-Mart for under $5. I recently went back and all they had was an expensive Martha Stewart version for about $12. Try Target....last time I checked they were about $7. The Dollar Tree near me has smaller ones for a dollar, but they are UGLY! They're also not clear so it would be hard to see small stuff inside. tick tock tick tock.... it's getting close but NO DOCS!!!!

Have any DVC memebrs received their docs yet?

I called DVC last week and had a very testy MS snap at me for asking (sort of like kicking a happy puppy). Sort of funny because another MS told me a week earlier the we would have them by the three week mark and all of our requests would be in the system by then too. Last year we had the docs wayyyy before now.

If you see someone climbing the side of the Magic in a Spiderman suit the day we sail, that is me and it would be a pretty good hint that our docs still haven't arrived! ;)

Are there still seats in the group for Palo's brunch?

DVC Members, if you HAVE NOT received your cruise docs yet, CALL!!!

They said they attempted to send mine out, screwed up the address and never attempted to redeliver. They said they would send them out today or Monday standard UPS ground. At best, this will leave us two business days to receive our documentation. The package requires a signature so someone must be there to wait for it.

Update: DCL reluctantly changed the shipping to standard overnight. It will arrive on Monday...

Moral of the story: If you call one time and receive conflicting information/lazy MS person, call back and speak with someone else. If I had not followed up (thanks Jeanne) or docs would not have EVER arrived. gulp...

Anyway, back on course and ready to sail!!!

Requires a signature? When I received my docs, the UPS guy just left the package at my side door and didn't even check to see if I was home. I know, because I was on the computer (on the boards as a matter of fact) and heard the truck pull up.

Dis Mama - We haven't planned anything other than the meet at the sail-a-way party. Haven"t been on the boards in about a week- it's good to be back. We're redoing our bathroom and the contractors are taking longer than they thought - it was supposed to be done last weekend and they're still here! I haven't beenable to start packing yet- they're blocking my hallway- i think i'm starting to panic!
Dismama - congratulations on the weight loss.I find it gets ahrder and harder. I keep trying!

Yeah! Ifinally got activated! I've bee n reading the DIS for months and trying to reply for a couple weeks.
Hello, Me my DH, DS(10), DD(almost6), and DD(3 on the 4th of July) will be sailing with you on the 5th of July. We will also be at the Radisson in P.C. the 4th. Can't wait to meet all of you!

Welcome CarolJean!!! I have a DD who is 5 and a DS who is turning 3 July 2nd. How do we top these birthdays? We're actually not going for his birthday, but I have to make sure neither of the kids think we are either so their expectations don't stay that high :)

July 13th is our 7 year anniversary. So on the ship we will be doing a b-day cake for my son and an anniversary cake for us.

At this point it looks like we will be taking up a good bit of deck 10 for the welcome party.

I hate to ask this, but what do we do if it rains?

It looks like one kid's carry on will mostly be taken up with the new Harry Potter book. 870 pages!!!!! No wonder it took so long to write.

I think I'll take the bull by the horns and call AAA today. If they change our rooms I have some phone calls to make. Don't want DH's anniversary present going to the wrong room.

What happens to the ship's cast-off celebration if it rains? Anybody know? I guess we could could all take shelter at ESPN if that happens. We have to just keep thinking positively.....it's gonna be bright, beautiful and SUNNY!!!!!!!!!

I didn't count the individuals, but I think we're now 23 families....WOW!!!!!! ( And we're still missing first names for a few of them.)

Still no docs-AAA say this all very normal-guess we will all be sitting apart on the airplane out of Roanoke (we can't get seat asignments until our docs arrive)-the planes are so small and our family is a little larger than some.

I am thinking to have everyone that is staying at the Raddisson to come poolside on Friday evening if they like.

Sue said she checked with the hotel regarding alcoholic beverages poolside - they have a poolside bar - sound like it will all be fine.

I will see if my kids will make a poster with our thread title or something to say "Hey here we are"

Welcome aboard Carol. Looks like we're up to 96 people. Not bad at all.

IT'S NOT GOING TO RAIN!

I figure it's rained so much in the northeast, it has to be sunny and warm somewhere, so why not Florida? Besides, even if it does, so what? Everyone knows Florida rains are short and the sun comes out right away.

We're into single digits for heading down. Clothes are starting to pile up on the couch (our gathering place) and we're getting excited. I'm driving everyone crazy by saying things like "at this time in a week we'll be eating at Chef Mickey's" :)

Don't know if Harry will have to travel with us, since Elana is already up to page 150 and I'm close behind.

Thanks for the warm welcome! We were thinking of getting a b-day cake for DD's 3rd on the 4th. Would any of you fine folks care to sing "Happy Birthday" to a 3yo in exchange for a piece? Also was hoping to be able to see some fireworks from the hotel (or very close by). I'll read back a few pages to see if anyone has already covered this subject. Have docs, will travel!

Luggage down from attic - definitely need to purchase one more. Now the smallest piece is too small for my daughter. Half of her clothes are out and ready to pack.

CarolJean - we should spend sometime by the pool at the radisson this time - would love to sing happy 3rd birthday.

Not sure if we are having dinner at the hotel - my kids seem to remember a pizza place nearby (they will not be having pizza for a while after that - we shall see).

Getting very depressed here with all the rain. Unbelievabe wet weather here.:(

jeanneg: My DH and I are serious euchre players! We've been in the same group for about 5 years. Let's plan a time to play when we meet onboard(have to plan ahead as my DD didn't take to the potty as I had hoped, so must make ressies at flounders for any activity that requires both eyes and more than half my attention).
Hope we have a good turnout at the Rad. pool. Am ordering a cake for 50-60! Didn't see any fireworks info. How does one go about finding that sort of thing out?

jeanneg
06-22-2003, 05:19 PM
CarolJean: Now you have me scared! If you and DH are "serious" players, hubby and I may not be in your league!!!!! Recall I mentioned that we've only been playing for about a year. We both tend to "talk out" our moves to avoid making blunders! Do you play the 5 or 6-card version? Do you "hang the dealer?" In any event, if you don't mind playing with novices, we're certainly up for it. I'll bring my Sadam Hussein deck!
We'll be honored to sing "Happy Birthday" to your little girl....although I'm thinking that when mine were that age having 50 strangers singing to them would certainly send them screaming in terror! If we push it, I think we can arrive about 9pm.
I'm planning to bring a 1.5 litre bottle of wine to the pool. Will that be OK or (since they have their own bar) not allowed? I can't bring an open bottle on the ship, so all you good people will have to help us out!

ablyinpgva
06-22-2003, 05:47 PM
As far as the Radisson with bringing your own alcohol to the pool, I am sure no glass bottles are allowed, but if you pour your own in your room and then bring it poolside, what can they say?

We have found some real big mistakes with our cruise documents, like no one (of us eight) have the right home address and none of the addresses are the same??? Then not to mention - my room assignment does not match my receipt or reservation?

I guess I will be on the phone with AAA all day Monday. Their rational for the documents being delayed was so that they could make sure there were no mistakes!

I cant say I am at all impressed at this point - I am sure it is all AAA mistakes - we have a track record!!

Has anyone gotten a different room than they reserved?

Even with the confusion, still very excited and ready to go!!

Carol Jean - The Bennetts will be honored to sing to your daughter, our son Kristofer will be celebrating his 10th on the cruise on 7/10. My husband's an elementary vocal music teacher and director of music at one of the churches here in town, so he's always ready. We met while we both were singing a the Choral Society of the Hamptons.

Our daughter would always cry when anyone sang Happy Birthday when she was that age...really gave us a complex!!

I posted a separate post on fireworks at Port Canaveral (aka Cocoa beach). Basically pick up a Friday paper when you get in town to get the whole story. There are fireworks at Shephards Park near Ron Jon's beginning at 9PM. At Cocoa Village they have festivities beginning at 3P with fireworks late.
As far as being able to see the shows from the Radisson, I don't know the distance.

Audrey brought our docs to us today. Interestingly, my son lives in TX and I live in MI. My husband and daughter have a postal code that doesn't match anything. Audrey and I decided that we should travel to those addresses and say we live there according to Disney. :teeth:

Does anyone know if the first aid onboard carries a fee?

Sorry to hear about all the confusion with AAA. We used them once for a trip to Europe and I was very unhappy with some of the things they did. We have never used them again as a travel agent.

Shelley: I'm so glad you and your family can sing well. You can drown out me and mine! None of us can sing worth a dime! My daughter is the absolute WORST, but she thinks she's the next Celine Dion. Well we are now in the middle of packing.DW does all the serious stuff like clothes, and I do the technical side like Cameras ,video, documents etc .Agonised over formal clothes but can only fit in sports Jackets and slacks no Tuxedos.

Also Flying over from the Uk they only allow 6KGS (about 14 pounds for hand luggage can you believe this),so cant take many breakable items.

I have found an old letter from the Castaway CLub from 2000 when we last cruised,is there any advantage to this is there anything we should do about this as we seem to be members.

Thanks all! Don't worry about vocal abilities. What we lack in talent we are sure to make up for in drunken(re: wine) enthusiasm. So happy to hear there will be someone there to at least give pitches so we don't all strain something singing too high! Cake and wine; the breakfast(and bedtime snack)of champions! Happy to hear about fireworks possibilities. I guess drought conditions are't a concern now.
jeanneg: When I say "serious" I mean "seriously love" to play. Once again that talent vs. enthusiasm thing applies! Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to playing for 5 years, we may only embarrass ourselves! We play 5 card and we do "stick the dealer". We'll play any way you prefer, though as long as you will teach us. Can't wait to get outta here! Leaving on the 2nd to spend some quality time at the M.K. before sailing. See you at the party(s)!

OK, I just visited my orthodontist today and did NOT receive the good news I had been anticipating. It's sad, but I will still be wearing my full metal jacket on the cruise. What makes it even worse is that my kids are rolling on the floor in hysterics. (Rodney Dangerfield, you get WAY MORE respect than I do!!)

If you had been the proverbial fly on the wall at our home during the past several months, you would have been privy to conversations that went something like this:

"So, Mom, when are you going to tell all your online Disney friends that you have BRACES?"

" Not to worry, my Sweet Ones.....by the time we set sail, my braces will be gone and all that anybody will see will be my perfectly straight teeth."

"Yeah, right , Mom. What is this DD thing I keep seeing? Does that mean Disney Dork? Cuz that's what you are. No, no we take it back....you're a DDWB. That's a Disney Dork With Braces! How humiliating is that, Mom."

Then after I hit the big 5-0, it only got worse:
" Not only are you a DDWB, you're an ODDWB....an OLD Disney Dork With Braces! Promise us we won't have to be seen with you, Mom"

OK, so there you have it. This is what I have to deal with every day. I just may finish off the entire box of wine myself........

Seriosuly, my kids never cease reminding us of how OLD we are. They love to walk around my back and point out all the grey hairs and thin areas. That's okay, we can tell them if they are embarrassed to be around us, we could always cruise by OURSELVES.

I love checking the boards now, we are all getting wound up!!

I am working on the cabin # thing. There initial answer was that there were no other cabins - at all- on the ship! My answer - find one or get the hammer and nails!!! They said they would look at something different - and get back to me by tomorrow morning.

I am officially looking for a new travel ageny!

Boxed wine! Works perfectly for me. After my day today - I may have to dig something out for my nerves. My youngest had her CT scan on her knees - No surprises - but still no good news. But to be honest - in the whole scheme of things - if Her knees are the worst of my worries - I am very blessed. I am just exhausted from the day - I need to go back to work tomorrow and get some rest.

I keep thinking of one or two more little things we need to get before we go. If I could only be as organized and prepared as my private cruise guide - Sue Baker! But you know what they say "opposites attract"! And thank God they do!!

I'm still here reading all of the posts and you all are hilarious!! Just bought a portable steamer from the Del Mar Fair. Tried it at home to make sure there was no gimmick. It works great!!! Less worries for the packing (wrinkling)!!!!

BTW-my large family party all make fun of me and call me "DisMama", but they love all the info I bring back to them.

Clams?.....I prefer lobster myself!

Sorry, DisMama, I got you mixed up with Joanb........you're the one I was thinking of when I wrote that comment to "Toilet Bowl" Trishy. (No, I haven't started drinking the wine, I'm just punchy cuz the cruise is getting so CLOSE!)

Shelley: I chose white (even though I myself prefer red) because I know some people get a headache from red wine. That way, if there's any left, we can get some OJ and make imitation mimosas to drink before we get to the port.

Just to put my plug in for White. I prefer the Zinfandel or Chardonnay.

I'm doing the Rum punch thing at the pool. Available as long as it lasts. You may want to get there early with the likes of this crowd.:jester:

You can now relax and enjoy the cruise.

Joan our doc's haven't come either and I am getting nervous. We leave in less than a week!!

The big question in our house is how fast can we get from Fayetteville to the Radisson. The mini van you see burning up the highway will be ours.:p I want to be there to sign Happy birthday.

Brunch as late as possible suits me. Just remember, I am determined to get those ressies!!!!

Congrats To Sandy!

Well our DS Gary just finished his school exams today and thinks they went OK so thats a weight off our minds > He is hoping to go to Cambridge University He has been offered a place if he gets all A grades so now we have to wait until 14th August for the results.

DW is panicing about the packing.I am trying to get all my work done but it is still piling up.But in 7 days time I wont care anymore, and on friday we will be on the Virgin Plane to Orlando. We stay overnight at an Airport hotel ,all booked and paid for some time ago .If I had known about this site earlier I would have loved to have joined you all at the Radisson.

Look forward to meeting you all at the sailaway party.

Just look out for the Brits, with the London accents and pale skins from all the rainy days.(normally but at the moment it is about 77F and the sun has been shining for nearly 3 weeks -a record here)

I think that thing about rainy London is a myth. I was there the first week of July 10 years ago (well, Portsmouth and Southampton, really) and had beautiful weather all week.

Three more days and we'll be on the road.

Congrats to all the graduates.

Hey, Ashley, say "hi" to my daughter if you see her in London. She's studying at the University of London this summer (although she's actually in Glasgow this week). It shouldn't be too hard to spot her.....she's the one running her ATM through the cash machine several times a day!!!!! As I just reminded her in an email a little while ago, she's got only 5 weeks left to put the moves on William!!!

That's the bumper sticker on our silver Durango which will also be tearing down I-95. We have 4 bonafide drivers so we should make good time....as long as everyone's bladder cooperates!

yea! AAA say they have our docs and staterooms are correct. Only our flights are late sooooooooooo we will be the ones that are holding up leaving port...they said they wouldn't leave without us as our air and transfers were all booked through them.
so everyone might want to move their departure clocks back a bit. LOL Joan
