Disney VISA Credit Card

As I'm sure most of you received recently, Disney is now offering a VISA Card effective March 4th.
It sounds like this will be the alternative to no longer offering us Disney Club memberships.
Any guesses as to line of credit the card will offer?

Not sure.... but Six Flag's Bank One MasterCard has a credit line of $5000 to $100,000. I would guess Disney would want at least the same for their card.

yes i wish they were keeping the discount card, i loved it, but like all good things that disney does they will take them away till people yell loud enough and long enough than they change them back, i hope this is one of those things

The Six Flags MC card gives you a free annual season pass and vouchers to spend at the park when you use your card enough to obtain enough points.

Last year, I received a free annual family season pass (for 4 people) and $200 in vouchers to spend just for using my card. I hope Disney will do something this good and I would switch over in a second - even though I live in Texas.

That is a fabulous perk and one that shows the company truly cares about it's repeat customers.
I too can only hope Disney does something by way of points so that you don't have to acquire "millions" to get a collector pin (save me from any more limited edition collector pins.....).

Is it possible that this is COMPLETELY replacing the current disney credit card? I noticed that they are no longer accepting applications online for it... I wonder if we have to reapply?

Disney's Visa Credit Card from Bank One is coming soon. It's the first credit card in history that will offer Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on your Disney's Visa Card purchases. Apply between March 4 - 24, 2003, and your card will be embossed with Disney Vacation Club and will also reflect "Cardmember Since Day 1." As a "Day 1" cardmember, you'll also receive a limited edition commemorative pin to mark the occasion.

This is the most published information I have seen as far as specifics. There is a previous thread that gives the initial press announcement, but there are no specifices in there...

The Universal card offers their AP's at a little less than a 1% award rate.... meaning you have to charge about 100 times the value of the pass to get the free one. That would put a Disney WDW PAP at right around $50k in charges if I remember correctly.

That does not include any "bonus point" opportunities that most reward cards have. Things like 5000 points on your first use of the card, or double points on certain products or with certain merchants. Not sure if or what Disney will offer in this area.

...you ain't going to get something for nothing. That all depends on whether you carry a balance on the card or not...

ABSOLUTELY.My oldest son graduates college this June. My credit card perks will cover two nights at the Boston Radisson for the actual graduation,four round trip flights to Orlando,two studios,six nites each at the Sheraton Universal Studio's as well as $1600.00 cash for meals & tickets. Total cost to me:ZERO, because I don't carry a balance. I would love to see this card offer 5% rebate in Disney Dollars,to spend as you wish, similar to GM's 5% cash rebate when purchasing a vehicle. Realistically,I'm thinking it will be more like 2-3%.

Credit card points usually equate to $.01 per point (not including bonus points) . . . so $50,000 in charges should be worth about $500 .

I called and asked how this would affect the Disney Credit card and was told there would be no change to the current card this makes no sense to me at all why would they want to have 2 credit cards by 2 different banks going at the same time?

...Why end the current card ? Sears has had two cards for years. Thier Sears card basically locks people into buying only from them, same as the DC does now. And at a sky high interest rate, similar to any other store brand charge card.

Insurance, phone bill, supplies, equipment, gas, a van...........we easily charge $50k on credit cards each year for our small carpet cleaning business. JUST PAY IT OFF IN FULL EACH MONTH....its good business logic, and it keeps records of expenditures. Gimme one of em 'air DVC cards:Pinkbounc

The old Disney Credit Card site has been stripped of all information. I don't recall there being any benefits or rewards with that card so they probably figure new applications will all be for the new Visa card.

It still doesn't make sense that they aren't allowing online applications for the current DC... The old Disney Credit Card site has been stripped of all information. This only happened within the last week or so. It could be that it was just creating too much confusion, since the bulk of people looking for info on a "Disney Credit Card" wanted info on the Visa, and not the "regular" card. I'd bet they were receiving applications from people who thought they were applying for the new Visa card.

Of course, that's just a theory...

Talk to your CPA, the perks may be taxable........
especially if the business is earning the points and you are using them personally.......

You are correct, the original disney cc did not have any rewards attached to it. I have one that I used to use quite frequently in the Disney stores (that's another thread !!) and only got the 10% off when I presented my Disney Club Membership in conjunction with it. If you had the cc, you received mailings of special promotions, etc.--now the .com serves as the communicator. It served a purpose years ago.

For those of you who want to be among the first to apply there is a website... It says you need a code, but all you have to do is pick your favorite division from the drop-down menu to get in.

Basicly there is no information on the site, but they get your e-mail address to let you know when you can fill out an application.

There is also a phone number, but they have a script with no other information (it is actually a little humorous, but they will get a name and phone number and contact you when the cards become available.)

As DC member, we received advance information on the Disney Visa card. The application period for "Day 1" cards runs from March 4 - 24.
I love how the article says "very few are being told about this opportunity to get Day 1 status....." In reading some other threads, looks like we'll all have the card !

No annual fee; 6 months promotional interest rate; Magical benefits to cardholders.

I still say this will closely resemble the current Disney Club membership.

Dear dzneelvr, There is a difference, with the disney club we got discounts. we could pay however we wanted to. With this new card, we will probably have to earn points to get free things.

Did anyone notice the interest rate on the card??? My guess is that it is very high!

The notice sent to DCMembers says: "special promotional interest rate" for the first 6 months.
Also, no annual fee.

My opinion is the rate will not be low; probably in line with other VISA special offerings.

We have to wait until March 4th for any other specifics.
