Okay, I admit I'm real late with this...

Has anyone tried Priceline for hotels? I know Nancy and Barry are big PL users so I assume that's not an option? huh?

Otherwise I stick with Nancy's suggestion!

It does sound like fun, though. If there's no problems you can count on us from 7/31 - 8/3.

NancyIL posted this, also, but if you missed out on the lower-priced Day's Inn room, try the Clarion Hotel (has an indoor pool, close to the Day's Inn)..1-800-4CHOICE...they are offering rooms at $80, Triple A rate! :) I booked today, and they hold till 4 p.m. day of arrival, no credit card even needed! :)

Those of you shut out of the Days Inn - book the Clarion Hotel! We need a back up for our pool party if it will be raining and they have an indoor pool!

Robin - Priceline has hotels in Sandusky, but I've NEVER seen anyone post their success for summer dates at www.biddingfortravel.com :( When dumpy motels charge over $100 per night during the summer, you know they don't need Priceline's help!

Cool Robin is coming too???? This is quite a party!!!!

I can not wait...this will end up being part of an almost two week trip for the girls and I.

So who is around on the 31st???

Towncrier
01-31-2003, 06:16 PM
We need Ray Sharpton to take charge of the list of attendees. And we need Robin to start pressuring Ray to come on up to Ohio and be part of the fun. How about it Robin? You're going to see Ray at the next Atlanta DISmeet, aren't you? Make sure to tell Ray that we need him on the RiddleCon bandwagon. How are we going to be able to tell the players without a scorecard?

I think I'd love to come but right now it looks like the totals would be.....

Passes for 2 days.... $362.70
Hotel for 2 days..... $521.00
Food for 2.5 days.... $200.00 est.
Gas for travel.... $40

Grand total....$1128.70

OK Guys I love you all and I'd love to see you again...but it just isn't in the budget....

OK....I've saved $203 dollars from 5 mins ago....anymore ideas...

DonnaW

Are you booking more than one room at the Clarion? Triple A rate quoted to me was $80 per night...two nights $160, plus tax :)

glo
01-31-2003, 06:34 PM
put in AAA for the discount if you have the AAA card. Or look for the internet special....or call...Nancy posted it for $80 a night....keep trying.

Bernie has numbers to group discount for the passes, saves a little more and he has a group lunch or something at $8.95 a person for Sat.

How is that?

glo
01-31-2003, 06:37 PM
We are bringing our car fridge for on the road eating...to save some money, and buy snacks for the kids. I am not even going to look at the gas part, I figure it will be cheaper than flying anywhere.

Tried Priceline for the heck of it and didn't score :( I had to try...

NancyIL

I imagine the Zurg family requires 2 hotel rooms for 6 family members.

Kim - do you want 2 full days at Cedar Point? If one-day tickets will do, plus the exciting POOL PARTY- you'll save a good deal of $$.

zurgswife
01-31-2003, 08:04 PM
That's an idea...it just seemed that lots of people were doing 2 days at the park...but I guess I wouldn't have time.....Ok....additional savings..$181....

total savings....$480

grand total is now down to...$748......it's getting better.....:D :D :D :D :D

A little more tweeking and I might just be able to do....we will have to see......:D :D :D

I guess there is a separate admission price for both the water park and Cedar Point? I would like to do the water park on Friday during the day, and then spend all day Saturday at CP. Does anyone know how much the water park admission is, and can we get a discount on that also? I don't have a lot of $ to put out either.

FYI.......Clarion is $72 for the 31st and $80 for the 1st. This hotel is fairly new!

WebmasterBarry
01-31-2003, 08:11 PM
I went to www.choicehotels.com and tried the AAA rate. It's $72 for 7/31 to 8/1 and $80 on 8/2. Now I have to find cheap airfare, which is not easy! :)

Dan Murphy
01-31-2003, 08:13 PM

Laura, go to the Cedar Point Website. There is a combination ticket for the 2 parks. We have considered Cedar Point for Saturday and Soak City for Sunday. DH works Tuesday - Saturday so he already is taking off Friday and Saturday. We have to add our time on to the end of the weekend.

The Clarion was originally a Four Points Sheraton, so I'm not sure how old it is.

I'm sure it's possible to get a hotel in Sandusky through Priceline...in January! :p

The LK 4
01-31-2003, 08:58 PM
I checked out the website, but it is not really clear to me. Is the Funday admission just for CP? They have a 2 day pass that looks like it allows you to hop between the water park and CP both days, but I'm not sure if the one day Funday admission allows that. The group discounts look pretty good.

NancyIL
01-31-2003, 09:02 PM
The Funday ticket is for Cedar Point only.

The LK 4
01-31-2003, 09:05 PM
Rats. The $24 admission for the waterpark seems sort of high for 1 afternoon. I'm sure there are discount coupons for it however. Someone had mentioned earlier about a discount booklet - is that through the CP website or through an Ohio state visitors website?

NancyIL
01-31-2003, 09:10 PM
Laura - call 1-800-BEST-FUN to get the coupon book. There MIGHT be a buy-one-get-one-free coupon, or else a money-off coupon for Soak City.

Welcome Scott this keep sgetting better and better :)

Laura, you can do it....I would call the number just listed above to and see if they give us any freebies like one admission ot the water park and get one free...It is not a sure thing, but might as well try.

Also, check with Bernie on the park tixs...he was looking into group discounts :)

Well, not really...the highest are:

1.) Dragster at Cedar Point: 420 feet high
2.) Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagishma Highland: 318 feet tall
3.) Millennium Force at Cedar Point: 310 feet tall

Millennium Force is the 2nd highest now until Dragster opens.

Pembo, I was seriously considering driving to the meet this Saturday, but I think my nephew is having a bowling party that day for his birthday, and we have a spaghetti dinner that night for another nephew's Boy Scout troop. 3/1 might work. We always go away on Memorial Day weekend to my in-laws cottage. How long do you think it would take me to get to your meets? Maybe 1 to 2 hours? That's not too bad at all.

Well I didn't read all the pages,s o if I'm "lost" just let me know. I see many are staying at the Clarion, but on the first page Breakers Express is mentioned. I just wanted to say that we stayed there 2 yrs ago and really liked it. The Snoopy head shaped pool was a blast for my DD.

I'm trying to talk DH into going, hopefully I'll have he convinced before the DIS'ers book every room in Sandusky.

Sharon, click on the Riddle-con link in oldkicker's signature. That is the best place to get complete, up-to-date info on it. Hope to see you guys again in August.

Count me in! It might be just me this trip - so I will figure out where to stay and I do want to sign up for the group dinners and breakfast. The rest I'll figure out when I've gotten thru all the info. See you all in 6 months or so!

HELP! Where can I get cliff notes for all the inside jokes that I won't understand at RiddleCon? I don't usually follow those threads...and I think I'm going to be so out of the loop!

Guess I better start studying.

Baboo

I wouldn't worry about it Splsh! I'm sure that we'll create a whole new bunch of them that weekend, and you'll be part of them!

However, we'd love to have you join us on the riddle thread every morning. Even if you don't riddle, we have a great time! We also have a lot of fun on the Riddle Me Chat thread, so come on over and join us!

Splsh, just wear a lime green thong and you will fit in just fine.

Seriously, we are a very freindly bunch. And the jokes aren't inside as much as between people who have become friends.
