DD Laura is going in the hospital Wednesday (outpatient) for her annual heart catheterization and heart biopsy. The cath is to check for coronary artery disease which is common in heart transplant patients. We have read that basically everyone transplanted over 10 years ago has some level of coronary artery disease. Laura's transplant was almost 14 yrs. ago and to date they haven't found any but each year the chance is more likely. If CAD is bad enough they would have to do another transplant.

The biopsy is to check for rejection. Her last biopsy that came back showing rejection was when she was in 6th grade and she's in 8th now.

Its always a hard, awful, extremely stressful day. The procedure lasts about 3 hrs. and she's awake but sleepy through it. Then she'll be in recovery for about 4 hrs. before we can go home. My husband is in Colorado working and can't come home for this so I'll be by myself waiting for the results. The consequences of a bad result are so awful that I hate to be alone but I'm too stressed to bring a friend and feeling like I need to carry on a conversation, etc. They can tell me the results of the cath as soon as they are finished. The biopsy results will come back late Wed. or Thurs.

If you could remember us in your prayers and good thoughts that we can both have the strength to get through the day and that we'll get good results on both tests I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks for everything.

Absolutely, prayers are coming your way.

Remember, a true friend will go with you and sit quietly and just be there for you. You shouldn't feel obligated to carry on a conversation with them. Plus, you get the added benefit of having someone to get you a coffee or water if you need it without having to leave the waiting room and someone who can be your pillar to lean on as you need to restore your strength.

I hope everything goes better than you can ever have imagined it would.

I agree, a friend would understand and be there for you, not for the conversation.

Prayers said and I'll say more for Laura. She's one strong little girl and I hope the results are the best possible. :)

Anything for my YCE buddy;) I also agree to ask a friend to come as well. Maybe you can even tell them you may not feel like conversing, but would they mind just to be a presence for you. I'm sure they'd be more than happy.

Lots of prayers for your precious DD. Good luck!

I'd take a friend, too. You'll be just as stressed alone, and having another body can be a real relief.

Prayers and pixie dust for both of you. Let us know how it goes.

My DD had heart surgery when she was about a pound and a half. She was born at 24 weeks gestation and had to have a surgery to close a heart valve. She ended up w/ 6 separate surgeries before we left the hospital 16 weeks later on my due date. W/ every surgery I went into my "phone booth". It was my inpentrable fortress where I shut out the rest of the world. I realized when I was terrified I did not want any contact. My family was always there for support - I just chose to be alone.
I definitely understand what you mean.
Prayers coming your way!

I sent my SIL an e-mail telling her about Laura's cath & biopsy. She called and is coming with me. Her DH is taking the day off work to stay with the kids so she can come. She arranged all this before even calling to let me know. I warned her its a long day with lots of just sitting around but she wouldn't take no for an answer. I'm glad she wouldn't. :D

You can count on my continued prayers for Laura. And for you!!! It must be awful, the waiting and worrying, especially with DH not there.

Please know that there are many on the DIS that are here for you, Liz, whenever you need the support!

Please give Laura a hug and kiss from me!

This may not help much. But when I am feeling sorry for myself, Laura helps me get out of it.
Laura and other's like her who have had a whole lot more to deal with in life than I will probably ever have.
