Just to let you know I just checked my Bank account and my refund was returned. There is NO Excuse for this, after waiting a month and a half for our refunds on money that should have been there to start with I am not happy.
I am not employed right now, and the money I had gotten I had used for Groceries. Now I am going to have my checks bouncing all over the place. I am trying to get the funds in there right now to cover this.
This was handled abysmally and I am extremely upset about this. I hope no one elses have been returned either.

I am not sure Barb...I just wanted everyone to have a heads up incase they wrote checks against the money.
The only reason I found out about it was Roger was doing the online banking and we saw that there was a returned check, and the only check that was deposited for that amount was From DIS-Con.
I am not sure the reason it was returned..I am sure I will find that out when I get it in the mail. I did fill in the written part for the correct amount, and I know Banks never look at the check after it was processed initially by the depositers bank. So the only reason I can think of was that it was NSF. I will let you know what it says when I get it in the mail.
My Bank did charge me a fee for the return so I expect to get that back too.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will move some savings into my checking to make sure that my checks I have been writing do not bounce.
I certainly hope that this is a isolated incident. :(

Please keep us up to date on this Pat. Maybe you could contact your bank tomorrow and they could tell what was up.....rather than waiting for snail mail!!!
I'm so sorry to hear this Pat!!!!! I wish I could help you out!!!

Thanks for the heads up on this. I was going to deposit my check over the weekend, as I haven't been able to get out this week due to my surgery. I think I'll wait to see what happens to those of you who have already made your deposits, as I certainly don't want to have to worry about bounced check fees!
I am SO disappointed to hear that this has happened!

Thanks for the heads-up, Pat.
I checked our account online, and our check was returned last Thursday due to insufficient funds. We were charged a $5 returned check fee.
This whole situation is inexcuseable! We've tried to keep quiet about this fiasco, but our patience is growing very thin. Our money needs to refunded correctly and promptly. This has gone on long enough!
I wouldn't be depending on that money to cover any checks, if I was anybody else! :(

Oh no. :(
My check went into my savings account, just in case. I'm glad I didn't write anything against it. That would have been disasterous. :( :(

Barb.. I did the same thing...I put it in my savings and went to my bank this am... the Manager of the bank is watching my account, he said with out of state checks, it can take up to two weeks, but I feel better that I did put it in my savings account....

Patrick, just wondering??? Did Pete also cover your bounced check fees???
Pete, if you read this I would really like to hear something from you about this situation before I deposit my check. I have not done so yet as I have been laid up due to gall bladder surgery, but like the rest of us at this point I really could use the money in my account right now without any further problems. Pete, your silence on the subject, as well as the fact that at least 2 people that we know of now having had problems with their checks is unacceptable. Please let us know why this problem of bounced checks has occured, and what you plan to do about the rest of us so this does not happen to anyone else. We have all been more than patient with you. I think we deserve some response from you ASAP!

The point is not if the checks were deposited into savings or checking accounts, the point is someone has got our money and paypal will not help because it's been past the 30 days of original payment and very little information has been given.

For those whose checks bounced....when did you deposit them into your accounts?

01-11-2003, 06:22 PM
From what I can tell looking at the online bank statement, there were four checks returned. What does not make sense is that checks were posted before these, and after these, without incident. I won't be able to get an answer from the bank until Monday. If anyone has a returned check, please email me directly at webmaster@wdwinfo.com Many of the checks that were written have already cleared, as have the PayPal refunds. Please let me know as soon as possible if there are any issues with your refund checks.

Now my question is - did you alert the people whose checks were returned now so that they can expect the charges in their accounts? I sure hope this is resolved easily and quickly so that when I get my check I can use it as this time of year is very fund low for me and I really need that money! I'm just very frustrated as everyone else and upset that this has happened to people.
Please - no questions about my check. Thank you

Chris, if that question is directed to me, I have no clue... I am surmising since Pete mentioned 4 checks that those people already know and maybe have not posted.. but then again.. I am only surmising. And also, I believe Pete said he will know more on Monday when the bank is open and he can check and see what exactly happened.. :)

Well, since I haven't heard any more about it I am going to deposit my check tomorrow. I need the money. All I can say is that if this check bounces I will not be a very happy camper!

Well, the check was returned to me yesterday by my credit union, and it was stamped NSF (Insufficient Funds.) I had deposited it on Jan. 3rd, and it was returned to my CU on Jan. 9th. I have emailed Pete as requested several times, with no response. I still do not have my refund!
I do not know what else to do, besides legal action. Any suggestions??

I don't know what to tell you James.
I am sitting here on pins and needles whether I should spend the money from my check. I know it is somewhere in the system and with checks bouncing I can't help but wonder if mine is in there somewhere and it just hasn't come back yet because I cashed mine outright at the bank.
We should not have to be worrying about things like this. We put our money up in good faith and have every right to expect the return of those funds to be in the same good faith.
I don't know what happened on Pete's end but something has definitely gone wrong and the lack of communication from the very beginning of planning for DISCON 2002 through the refund process has been lacking.
While I am sure there are those of us who can sit and wait this out, I know there are those that need this money to pay bills now not a month from now while we wait to see if the checks are good.
I wish you luck and keep us posted on your situation.

James , I'm very sorry that this is happening to you, after I waited so long for my refund I called paypal to ask them what was going on and their answer was that since it had been over 30 days of the original date of payment , they couldn't help me, that I had to go through Pete. I tried to call, no answer, I PM'd him, no answer, I e-mailed him, no answer.
Paypal could not put in a dispute for me anyway because by the time Pete cancelled Discon ( or at least part of it ) it was already over the 30 days time from the original date of payment. Maybe you can dispute charges with your credit card company? Just an idea, I don't know how you paid but if you used a credit card ( even a check card ) with the Visa/Mastercard logo , you are covered just like a regular bank card.
I recall reading on friday Pete saying four checks bounced, two of them we know of, the other two ...were the people notified so they can be prepared for this? He also mentioned he should know more on monday after he spoke to the bank, well this is wednesday and some people affected by this still have no asnwers as to where their money is and what is going on. Pete you need to comunicate with people and let them know what is going on.

Just a FYI****** If I remember correctly----checks were issued on a Bank of America account. As a Bank of America client I am blessed with 24 hour service ---7 days a week----365 days a year. Information for BoA members is only a phone call away---24/7/365.

Bank of America?? If I'm not mistaken my check said something about First Union but then again I did not make a copy of the check ( didn't think it was necessary ) but even I had access to Bank of America, it would only give me access to my own account. Well, hopefully we will have the answers to all this real soon.

I wish I could add something positive to this thread, but mskanga, I want to say you are correct - the checks were drawn on a First Union account (or at least the one that was written to me was).

Let me try again......
I have Bank of America
I for some reason thought I remembered someone stating checks were written on a Bank of America account.
I was just giving my .02 about MOST banks having 24/7/365 customer service departments and as such info would have been forcoming.
Sorry for any misunderstanding......

Well, still no answers, I see. I was physically unable to make it to the bank today, so my check is still undeposited. I'm concerned that James' check came back to him stamped NSF. Pete, what should I do here? My patience with this situation has worn pretty thin. I would appreciate a direct response from YOU ASAP as to whether or not the check you issued to me is covered by sufficent funds for me to cash it.
BTW, my check was issued on a First Union account. I do have an account with First Union myself, so maybe I'll just go there to cash it.

Nancy,
E-mail Pete directly at both of the addresses in the thread I put up this morning and he will address your issues then. I would put it in the bank myself, no reason to wait, if it comes back NSF, Pete will have to cover it.

Thanks for responding, Cathy. I was finally able to get out today, so I took the check to First Union and asked them to verify it before cashing it. They checked and said it was fine, and cashed it for me with no problem.
