??? about Kid's AP

i have a question about the kid's AP.

do they have to use the finger scan thing or do they just put their ticket in the machine? it seems like this would be a dumb idea since kids don't have id's to prove they "are" themselves if the scan doesn't work like adults do.

also if the kid turns 10 before the AP expires is there any charge to upgrade?

i am trying to decide if an AP will be cost effective for this child. thanks!!

Kids with a child's ticket do not have to use the finger scan.

DS turned 10 during the year and we didn't do anything to his kids ticket.

Now that he's 10, he had to use the finger scan in December. It only worked one time. Most CM's just waved him thru. But one stupid CM at MK, told my DH that DS couldn't use his ticket??? My DH said that's his ticket! She said I need to see his ID! DH said he's 10 years old! She said let me check this out with a supervisor. The supervisor came over had DS try it one one more time and then waved him thru.

I am mixed up Do they do finger scans on kids? When you said that your son had to have a finger scan was he using an adult pass? At what age do they start asking the kids to scan their fingers?

DS (9) had a finger scan last July when we purchased the AP's. He always ended up getting waved through because for some reason his fingers never scanned properly.

You grow up reeeeal fast at Disney, supposed to get adult passes at 10 I believe. So when you do get the adult pass for them, then yes, kids get finger scanned. My DD's has not worked on several occasions, in which case the CM just asked....Are you so and so, she says yes, then they bi pass the system, no big deal.
You do not get charged more if your child becomes the adult age during the year. They just go by the purchase date.

I heard something about finger scans for APs. What is that about?

With Annual Passports, the turnstile CM will request you to insert your fingers into a device that will first record and later compare your *biometric scan*. The biometrics units take a series of photographs of your index and middle fingers - it measures your fingers and compares that each time your pass is used. If your pass stops 'working' a few times in a row, ask the CM to take a new reading for future use. The finger biometrics are used on all adult AP/PAP's sold to ages 10 and up. Children under 10 with a child's AP/PAP do not use the finger scans. They merely insert their pass and go through.

What happens if I buy a child's AP for my 9 year old and then he/she turns 10 before the AP expires?

Disney will exchange the child's AP for an adult one at no extra charge. This follows the same policy they use for this situation in any ticket media.

What's to stop someone from buying an annual pass for one child and returning with another child in the future using the same pass? How could they know?

The first child's name is printed on the back of the pass. If the CM asks the child his/her name (as they occasionally do), the second child would have to be prepared to lie.
