I have never attended a Vacation Expo. Having worked for the airlines for many years I have always planned my own trips and never used a travel agent.

DH has offered to take me to Hawaii as a 40th b-day gift. I have bought books etc. but just heard there is a Vacation Expo in Boston this weekend.

Do you feel pressured??? I get very upset (and sometimes nasty) when people try to use highpressure sales tactics on me.

Will I find this enjoyable or will I end up yelling at salespeople???

Thanks

I have never been to the Vacation Expo in Boston, but my sister works for the company that runs it. She works at it every year (she's not a travel agent, or else I would tell you to try to see her to help you out at the Expo). They shouldn't pressure you to book a trip while you are there, but if there is something you are interested in, you should book it while you are there--a lot of the vacations they offer are at deep discounts for the expo, and booking at the Expo can save you a lot of money. I would suggest that you have an idea of where you would like to stay, and get some price quotes before you go to the expo so you can make sure you are truly getting a great deal.

Hi MaryAnn,

It is at the Bayside Expo this weekend. Friday night 5P-10P, Sat. I think 9A-9P and maybe the same hours on Sunday.

We may check it out Friday night.....

We went to the one in Boston a few years ago. It is basically a whole bunch of travel agents/trip companies with tables and brochures. There was no pressure from anyone to book anything, but some offered discounts if you booked that day. We just walked around and grabbed tons of different brochures. The major cruise lines are all there, and there are companies specializing in certain destinations, etc.

I've gone a few times to the Vacation Expo that is sponsored by Filene's Basement (the one this weekend).

There is zero pressure and it's a fun atmosphere. You can get lots of info and see presentations. I booked a cruise during the Expo one year and got a great deal. They even have vacation giveaways too.

Think of it like a car show .... you get to shop around without the hassle.
