Well here I go again, trying to get a group of people together for our next cruise!!

We will be on the 10/12/03, 4-Day Wonder cruise, then a couple of days at WDW, then the 7-day Magic on 10/18 !!

The last 2 years, we have been able to get great groups together thanks to this board, so I am trying to do the same thing again. A close friend of mine will be starting a thread to do the same thing for our 4 day cruise.

So who's with us?!? We have lots of fun going back and forth at each other here for a few months (about 9 in this case!) before we cruise, then we always have fun getting together on board. We plan to host a winetasting (wine drinking?) party in our stateroom, probably on thursday while at sea. We also expect to have a group brunch at Palo's at some point.

So please introduce yourselves, and by October, we'll all 'know' each other already!

(If you see any posts from "Kamgen", just ignore her. She is a crazy woman who thinks she is cruising with us but she's really just insane.)

Beano, I wish we could say we will be cruising with you this year, but it doesn't look like it. We are hoping to be in WDW at that time though.

We'll be joining you! It's me, DH, DD12 and DS8. This will be our second cruise - we were on the Wonder last August.

You might want to check out tchrmom's 10/18/03 thread. There's at least two more of us.

Welcome aboard, Spud! :)

I didn't realize there was another 10/18 thread, I'll have to look for it. But I am glad you responded to mine!

This will be our 4th Disney cruise, 2nd Eastern Magic. A mere 9 months away! :(

Who else is with us?

Well, this cruise will be great and I am so happy that I can at least say that we are going THIS year! LOL!!!!!!!

(and watch out for Beano.....he only hosts a wine tasting in his stateroom to mooch wine off everyone! LOL!!!!! :bounce: )

That's not true, Kamgen. I don't even drink wine, now do I??

;)

Spud - My DD will be 11 this year so maybe we can get our kids together. DS is 13... they love to meet new friends and go crazy all over the ship !

Kamgen, be sure to bring Tarzanman with you... I need someone to play with too!!

They could make a movie about you and I on a cruise ship and call it "Dude, where's my stateroom"?

Hey, did you get a hand cart, to get our kegs on board?

9 more months... seems like forever, but it seemed that way last year too and now it's long gone!

Sign in, everyone, this one's gonna be a heck of a party!

Welcome aboard, Disney Craze!

What a great honeymooon, aboard the Disney Magic, and with all of US! :)

We look forward to having you as part of the group. Since this is your first cruise, please don't be shy about asking questions!
There will be many "veteran's" posting to this thread I am sure,
and just between Kamgen and I, we have, what... 5 Disney Cruises?

We hope you'll still want to meet with all of us, after everything you'll see here in the next several months!!

Beano,

You would be wrong. There are four cruises here, soon to be five and six with you! You have 3 now, this one being your fourth so that makes a whole 7 cruises experience to go on. When we are done we will have 11 total. Holy crap!!! I think that that is enough so that we can tell people what is up.

Windermere
01-13-2003, 06:05 PM
Dh and I are going again too. Last year we did 9/14 and 9/21. This year were doing 10/11 and 10/18. Like Ave said, we've had the 10/11 thread going for months now. I think this will be our 10th and 11 th cruises but I'll have to confirm that number with DH.
A wine tasting, huh? That sounds like our kind of party.

Windermere, welcome to our crazed group...:jester: You and your DH are certainly welcome to our winetasting/drinking DIS party! It will probably be on thursday.

Tarzanman - Where did you learn to count? We have been on 2 Disney Cruises, not 3. These will make a total of 4. I have been on several myself, without my loving family. In any case, we all have plenty of experience... at least we know where all the bars are!

And for anyone who might miss us at the port or at sailaway, just look for the group of people loudly wandering the ship, singing show tunes. That's us.

I'm trying to figure out what's the earliest flight to reserve going out of Orlando. Thanks for your help, I'm sure I'll have alot more questions for you! Lisa

They usually start letting people off when the second breakfast starts. When is that - 8:15 or 8:30????? Then allow 1 hour travel time and of course extra security at the airport so allow AT LEAST one hour in the airport. I'd say definitely not before 11am if not 12noon.
We always stay overnight in Orlando and try to do the parks on Sat and Sun and take a red eye out Mon morn. I have it arranged so I work second shift Monday and DH just goes to the office a little late.

Hi everyone!!

LMLRN4ICU - Welcome aboard! I would suggest you not book a flight back out much before noon. Ours last year was at 11:50, and we made it in plenty of time, but if there had been any delays off the ship, we could have had problems. Better safe than sorry!!

Paul - If you guys change to our cruise, that would be great news!!! :) We'd love to sail with you and your wife again. Are you bringing any of the kids this year??? (Too bad it's not the western - we could all go back into Cozumel for the evening!!!!)

Hey you guys!
Count us in:D
We are celebrating our 30th anniversary onboard the beautiful Disney Magic. This will be our second time onboard, but hopefully we'l get to finish this cruise...my DMIL passed away Oct.'00, and we flew home from St. Martin:(

We are the upper end of 40s and we'll be bringing our adult children. DD Jenn will be 25 and DS Kevin will be 22 (birthday's in Oct. and Sept). They have never cruised, we are so excited to bring them along:bounce:

Last year we sailed the Grand Princess (Western Carribean) and had a blast! We met a group from the CC boards and enjoyed seeing people we already "knew" on the ship.

Anyone doing any research about our ports? I love planning excursions!

Loretta - Welcome to our "DIS family" ! :) The more the merrier!
As far as research on the ports, we have been on this very same cruise before so we are pretty familiar with things. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try and help!!

tarzanman - Dude, what cruise are YOU going on? In 10 months, we'll all be back home already!!! We sail in less than 9 months... In any case, I will send you a copy of that CD - lord knows your dance routines need polishing!! So the CD is on it's way. Next time I see you, you owe me a beer... maybe 2 !!

Love your webpages!!
Now you've got me interested in Mackinac Island!

When did you visit? Did you stay at Grand Hotel?

How do you find time to take so many vacations? We'll be going to Las Vegas in April and on this cruise in October. We'll also be in NJ for a week for the 4th... but then the most we can manage is some long weekends away. It's to hard for both of us to get time off from work:(

Pix are great, they have me revved up for our trip. Anyone spending pre or post cruise time at WDW? We're thinking about adding some days.

We will be joining everyone on this cruise. This will be our first cruise and I can't tell you how very excited we are. I am sure we will have lots of questions as time draws nearer! I will be celebrating my (should I even say!) 40th birthday while on board on the 22nd. I will be traveling with my DH, DD 17, DS 14, and DS 7. I can only imagine what my darling children will do to me while on board! We would appreciate any tips you veterans could share to make this the incredible journey I know it will be.

Thanks!

IndyDisneyFan : Welcome to you, also! This will be our 3rd voyage on the Magic... glad you'll be a part of it! I won't turn 40 until November, so I guess you're quite a bit older than me!! ;)
DW and I will be hosting a DIS gathering in our stateroom on thursday... maybe it will turn into a birthday party!!

Looks like we will have quite a crowd come October... mo' betta!

Beano- ever done any scuba on the Eastern? My husband and son will want to dive in St.Martin and St.Thomas/St. John. Last year I found booking on my own to be a great way to go. I'll be sufing for info on that.

Kamgen- can totally relate to the planning bug:D Anxiously awaiting our trip to Las Vegas. I have not been there since living there from'73-'77. Sounds like it has turned into Disneyland fro adult's-only. Have tickets for all our shows already and we're doing a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon.
Now I need to plan out the whole cruise vacation. I just found out about the Epcot food and wine festival. Might be a winner for before or after cruisin'.

Hope my kids are gonna love this as much as we do. They are big fans of the mouse, but not fanatics like their DD and me. My daughter made up the cutest basket for us for Christmas, filled with Disney goodies. My husband thought it was the best:)

Did I read back a few posts about lime green T-shirts?

IndyDisneyFan – We’re celebrating my “special” birthday too! It’s actually while the Magic is in dry dock but we wanted to go Eastern so this is the best we could do. So, I think Beano’s right and we should turn the DIS gathering into a birthday party. By the way, I’ll be in Indy this weekend. I’m hoping that your weather will be nicer than what we’ve been having in Chicago.

We’re looking for excursion ideas too. Have anyone been on the 5-star snorkel thingy in St. Thomas/St. John?

IndyDisneyFan

Spud,

Yes, I think a party is in order. So far I am not too depressed about the big 40, but what better way to spend it than on a Disney Cruise ship! The weather this weekend will be a bit warmer than the past few days, but I think the weather up there and the weather down here are pretty much the same this time this time of year! Cold, snowy, and counting down until spring!

Hi all... :)

Loretta - I have not done scuba on the eastern, only because nobody else in my family dives. But whatever the event, I strongly support researching and booking on your own! That way you can do things on your own timetable, and it costs less than a Disney excursion. I may or may not dive this year, but we are definitely doing some snorkeling. We snorkeled on St. John 2 years ago, and it was beautiful, but it takes quite a while to get there. I think we will stay on St. Thomas this year.

Spud and Indy - Should I order the birthday cake now??? ;)
DW and I will host a DIS party in our stateroom on thursday afternoon - consider this an advance invitation! DW and Kamgen are in charge of the food, tarzanman and I will host the bar!!
Can I be part of the birthday celebration?? My 40th is just a month after the cruise!!!

Here is a question for you since you are an expert at these cruises. We were thinking about renting a car on St. Thomas and doing some exploring on our own. What do you think? I read somewhere that you can take a ferry over to St. John. Any idea on the cost?

Thanks!

Laura - I can't say that we've ever rented a car on St. Thomas, so I can't say too much about that specifically, other than I know a lot of people do it. And yes, you can take a ferry over to St. John. As I recall, it was about 4 bucks per person. They leave every half hour. Just make sure you plan to get off the ship as early as possible, because you'd be surprised at how quickly the day can slip away ! It takes a while to get to the ferries, get over to St. John, spend some time there, and get back again! We did that 2 years ago, and had almost no time left to shop in St. Thomas when we got back!! If you're planning on going to a beach on St. John, I recommend Trunk Bay or Cinnamon Bay. Gorgeous!! :)

Kamgen - I guess we can let you celebrate with us.... if you behave! But you're a decade younger than the rest of us, so we probably can't keep up with you! ;)

Well, let's just make that one humongous cake!! DD b'day is Oct.5 and DS son's is Sept.2:bounce:
And let's not forget we got lots of anniversaries, too:D

Beano- how long you figure it takes to get to St. John? I've heard it's so beautiful. What kind of shopping would we be giving up in St. Thomas? I'd love to find an excursion like the one we did in Coz...scuba and snorklers were accomodated on one boat. DH got to dive, I got to snorkel and do a discover scuba (I'd love to get certified this summer before we go:) ) This still took up our whole day in Cozumel, plus we were pooped! No energy to shop or even get to see the famous C&C's-next time!

I need to learn how to do a countdown clock:)

Loretta

BeanoC
01-30-2003, 03:25 PM
Loretta - When you get off the ship in St. Thomas, there is a line of taxi's waiting to take you where you want to go. For St. John, you need to go to Red Hook. I guess it was about a 15 minute taxi ride. From Red Hook, you take a ferry across to St. John. The ferries run every 30 min., so depending on when you actually arrive at Red Hook, you may be getting right on board, or waiting close to half an hour. I recall the ferry ride being only about 10 minutes. Then, once on St. John, you need another taxi to take you to your beach or other destination. Again, I recall the ride to Trunk Bay as being about 15 min. So, from the time you step off the ship to the time you reach your destination, it'll be about an hour, maybe a bit more. You have to realize that the taxis don't take off as soon as you climb aboard - they wait until they fill up, so that factor increases your wait time. But yes, St. John is GORGEOUS!!! Trunk Bay was breathtaking, especially from the road up above. Post-card beautiful!!

What you are giving up, shopping-wise, is mostly jewelry, crystal, clothing, etc. If jewelry is your thing, you can do pretty good in St. Maarten!

I hope this answers your question... :)

Thanks for the tips on St. John. I think we are going to go ahead and rent a car and head over that way. I have no doubt that time will just fly while we are in port! We will have to figure out a way to budget our time. So much to do and see, so little time! My next hurdle is to get off the waiting list for the early dinner seating. We really don't want to eat dinner so late at night! I think I missed it literally by a day or two. Any tips here anyone?

Hello Fellow Cruise Animals!

Whether you guys like it or not, Pam and I will be joining you again this year. We have officially changed our cruise date.

It will be a bit of a birthday cruise for me too. My birthday is on 10/25.

Laura-

Wow, I'm surprised the early seating is full already. We have late seating but were thinking about switching. I guess we'll just stay where we are. I've heard that you should call right around 60 days out since that's when many people cancel. Even if you don't get it, I wouldn't worry too much. You'll definitely never be hungry!

The rest of you are now being given fair warning - there is still time to change to another cruise!! LOL

This will be our third sailing with Paul and Pam, also our third with Kamgen and her miserably deranged DH!!

(Guys, I think I will notify Doug and Christy - maybe they'll switch too!)

tarzanman - I bet we can find a place comparable to Senor Frogs,
but we won't be in port anywhere at that hour of the night. I would be too embarrassed to do those things in the light of day...

Now with Paul on the cruise, that birthday cake is getting bigger and bigger all the time! Last year, we had wine, along with sandwiches and cheese & crackers... This year, cake and champagne?? :)

I have a horrible cold, and this weather is dreary and depressing... I wish I was on deck 10 with a sailaway drink right about now!!

I bought my new digital still camera yesterday, so I have a new toy to play with, and to bring on vacation. All I need is for October to show up!!

Hello Everyone!

Watched the cruise video again this weekend. Too bad Ian isn't cruising with us again this year. Ian and Tim make such a cute couple out on the dance floor!

Beano- A new camera. You'll have to tell me all about it!

Only 37 weeks from today and we are in St. Marteen! (yes, I know I am stretching here! LOL!!! :) )

We will also be taking our second Eastern Cruise and our 5th Disney Cruise in October. The whole gang is going this time. We also have two new cruisers on this trip. My niece will be 11 on the trip and is so excited to go. The other kids are 1,6 and 9 and can't wait to be in the clubs. My sister will be the one in the spa all day. Hope to meet some other DIS members on this trip.

Hi guys...

Welcome aboard, Karen ! We look forward to meeting you. My DD will be 11 on this cruise also; I know she would love to meet your niece!

Kamy: 37 weeks? Is that ALL? I better get packed!! :)

Paul, I bought a Sony DSC-P9, 4.0 Megapixel digital camera.
It's really nice! I can easily import the pics directly into my software, the same software I use for editing video, so I can incorporate still shots into my video projects. It's simple to use
and it fits in the palm of my hand. Just a new toy to add to my arsenal of video equipment!

Hello everyone!

Beano- Being a "broadcast professional", I can tell you that toys are good but it's the "talent" operating the toys that make the productions really shine. Your videos were already great! I can't wait to see this years video!

Thanks, Paul!! I can certainly tell you that I am looking forward to shooting this year's video!!

My son is going to use one of my digital 8mm cameras this year, to help me offer another perspective on things!!

I have a 3CCD Mini DV camera I thought of using, but I couldn't incorporate that footage with the 8mm, since the Mini DV shoots in 16:9 ratio. So I will probably stick with the digital 8mm 4:3 format for another year!

The batteries are charged and ready, so let's GO!!! :) :)

Let's be glad we're going in October....A group from work went on a cruise a coupla weeks ago. It was cold in FLA and didn't get much warmer as they headed for Cozumel. Plus they weren't having much luck dodging 20 ft. seas.
'Course they were on Carnival, didn't sail with the mouse:(
They had pictures of even the seasoned cruisers laying on the bed, barf bags at the ready, eewwww! LOL! Seems like the folks posting here did better that week, cool weather but out ran the high seas:)
I know I should'nt make fun, us sailing in hurricane season and all. But we've been going to FLA or cruising in OCT for alot of years now and have been blessed with gorgeous weather:)

I am just being my usual jovial self. I am working a lot and going to the University of Michigan at night. It makes for a hectic schedule. Kamy and I are still working on the adoption from last year. Hopefully we have some good news soon. How many days are left until 10/12?

Tim - It's good to hear from you! it sounds like you are real busy.

Good luck to you both on your adoption!

I haven't started counting days to the cruise yet but I am going to WDW in April by myself. Pam thinks thats kind of sad but I plan on having a good time anyway.

Hi all!!

Did you see the weather report this morning??

It is warmer in Juneau, Alaska than it is in Detroit!! Time for Tim and Kamy to go on a cruise or 2 !! :)

Paul - I believe I misspoke regarding my Mini DV camera - it DOES have a 4:3 mode, I just don't use it. My intentions when switching to that format was to begin to change all my video over to 16:9, ultimately. The software I am currently using to edit does not support 16:9, so until I change programs, I don't want my vacation video in that format... I may just bring them all!!!! :)

I just noticed the thread about the change in the dress code to a bit more casual.
So what do you multi-timers think or do?
Are you still formal (with tuxes and gowns) or do you tone it down a bit?
My DS ( and DD- for that matter) do not want to be formal at all ( And would gladly eat at Topsiders those nights, LOL!) Breaks my heart...already wanted to put a pic of the four of us with Mr. &Ms. Mouse next to DH and mine from our other cruise.
I tried to tell them they would be out of place, since the great majority two years ago did get very formal.

Whatcha think??

I love to dress casual on vacation....but formal night is really nice....it is not often you get to put on a gown and parade around with your handsome dh! LOL!! :)

Since we have only done one 7nt prior to this upcoming one, we have only had formal night once....and I really liked it! But I am sure most of the men will be happy if it goes bye bye! :)

tarzanman
02-27-2003, 04:27 PM
I object!!! My DW knows that I like to get dressed up but only to a shirt and tie. I will wear a shirt and tie to almost every dinner except the tropical one. I don't think that it is necessary to get a tux if you don't have one and I don't. Beano would agree with me I think and he probably owns a tux. Come on Beano. Give us your take.

paulcrsb
02-27-2003, 07:53 PM

Paul

kamgen
02-28-2003, 09:32 AM
My dh (tarzanman) wears his black suit too..no tux...he looks fabulous in his black suit.
I think formal night is different for women...a lot of men wear a suit on the cruise on formal, semi formal and Palo nights.....but formal night for women seems much more elegant than semi formal night. I personally love formal night.

Kamy

Ps HI PAUL! :jester:

BeanoC
02-28-2003, 11:45 AM
tarzanman... I think you know my take on this!!! :)

The less formal the better, for me. I wear a coat and tie every single day of my life! I go on vacation to get away from that stuff.
So, no tux for me. I also wear my black suit on those nights. You and me together like that, we'll look like the Blues Brothers!!

And no, I do not own a tux. Not this guy!!

My guess is that Disney is relaxing this 'code' because so many people ignore it. While I may not enjoy the formal nights as much as some, I don't ignore the dress codes, and it ticks me off to no end when people do! But as I have said before, We sat next to a guy in Palo who was in shorts and water shoes!! (Yes, really). And I am constantly seeing shorts, tshirts, etc. in the dining rooms on formal nights, so people just don't give a darn about dress codes.

But you know me - I'll go with whatever is appropriate!

(P.S. tarzanman - I still want my one night with you and your DW for cheeseburgers and beer in our stateroom!!)

'Beano'

nicurnc
02-28-2003, 02:13 PM
Sounds like even though the "code" may have changed, folks are still pretty much dressing like they did on our last cruise.

We'll be awash with guys in black suits, DH wears one on formal nights as well:D

We like getting dressed for dinner. Not to the nines or anything, but just nice... the way you would dress to go to a nicer restaurant. Guess I'm kinda the opposite, I wear scrubs all day at work, so I enjoy preening a bit on vacation.

I know what ya mean about the water shoes, saw many variations on that theme myself:) I know cruises are more casual than they used to be, but c'mon, it ain't Mickey D's either LOL!!

Bottom line, sounds like my very individualistic kids will do fine and have a great time no matter what they chose to wear. My son at least has the sense to stay out of the dining rooms if he's gonna be in a wife beater T-shirt LOL!;)

Hi Everyone!

One more week down. We'll be sailing before you hnow it!

Hey Beano! I like Cheeseburgers and beer too! I finally finished my video of our last cruise. It ended up being three hours long! Of course I'm not as creative as you are. Mine is more of a time line documentary style. Still I've got some pretty good video (and memories) of all of our DIS friends. Our time at Ponchos and Charlies is especially good video. (I'm glad I got it on video because I barely remember that evening!)

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Actually, I had a different group of 3 in mind... I'll let y'all keep wondering just who!!

Hey, we just tore another month off the calendar! April is upon us.
6 months to go...

P.S. Paul, the steam in the surial bath would probably make the video cameras malfunction, huh? Oh well...

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one obsessing about this cruise. I'm driving my DH and friends batty with all the talk. Everytime I learn something new, or see something cool on the boards, I've got to tell them all about it and show them if possible. :jester:

My DH humors me since he's just as excited, just doens't show it like I do...but our friends who will be enjoying their first on this one...well...they just have no idea yet.

Remember : Kamgen, tarzanman, myself and all our family will have just been on the 4-day Wonder cruise, so we will be in full-swing by this one!! We might scare people away...

You really gotta watch that tarzanman - the boy could snap anytime now. He's highly unstable. (Especially when he's around me!)

Paul, you must have us confused with someone else. We always behave ourselves and watch our manners. I have ALWAYS apologized after puking on a crew members' shoes, for example.

Let's make bets on how many times Beano will go swimming on this cruise. He didn't swim at all on the last one. I think that I would bet on 4 times for this one. Reason: He will know me for this whole cruise. Last time he only hung out with us for the last 3 days or so. What a shame. We won't make that mistake again.

BeanoC
04-15-2003, 06:18 PM
I think you're right about that, t-man, but ya know, I don't recall seeing you swimming either! I only snorkeled on CC, since GC got cancelled. And we just shopped in KW and Coz. As far as on the ship, we were either eating, or drinking, or at a show, or playing bingo, or drinking, or playing Bim Bam Boom, or trivia, or drinking... Who had time to swim?? ;)

But the main reason I didn't swim was because of the likelihood of being mistaken for a whale and being harpooned. What did you ever do to me, that I should make you see me without a shirt on? Yikes. (The other reason is, it's hard to snorkel with a beer.)

I did not realize there was such a large group already on this site going before I posted my thread...... I will be going with my husband and 2 year old daughter. This is our first time.... We were not sure about going at this time of the year, but decide what the heck lets do it.

I am checking into whether I should keep my transfer of $49 for my husband and I through Disney since we are coming down a day early. I am not sure if there is something cheaper.... Any suggestions?Hotels? Also we are wait listed for the 6:30 dinner. Do we have a good chance of getting in? How often does it happen where you get bumped up to a higher category?

Thanks for your help.....

Hi Rena !! Welcome to our group.

This is a great time of year to cruise! This will be our 4th Disney cruise in October, and we have always had great weather and a great time!

As for your question, I have to say that I am not a big fan of Disney transfers. You have to wait until they have a full bus load of people, so you are at the mercy of the other passengers.
You can get a private towncar for the same money, and travel in comfort and privacy, and on your own time schedule, not Disney's!
Or, spend a little more, and treat yourself to a limo. :)

www.tiffanytowncar.com www.********.net

We'll be staying at the Radisson hotel for 2 nights before our cruise. They have a free shuttle to the port, and it's only a 5 minute ride. It's a very nice hotel with a great pool and a nice restaurant.

Welcome aboard!!

Thanks for all the information....It makes me feel good that you have cruised multiple times in October. I noticed on this thread that a lot of you know each other very well. Does anyone have young kids like us (2 year old)?

BeanoC
05-16-2003, 12:17 PM
Rena, as far as I know, most of us have older kids...

Ours are 13 (DS)and 11 (DD). Most of the other kids are in that range as well, I think. Maybe from 8 yrs. old up into the teens.
Have I forgotten about any other young 'uns?? :)

Some of us know each other pretty well, and we're excited to be vacationing together again. This will be our 3rd cruise with Paul and Pam (paulcrsb). We have been on the Magic with them the last 2 years. It will also be our 3rd cruise together with Kamy (kamgen) and her DH, Tim (tarzanman), and we are vacationing with them this summer in Michigan. They are both a tremendous pain in the butt, however we don't want to hurt their feelings so we keep doing stuff with them. ;)

5 months from now this vacation will be in full swing!! In fact, 5 months from today, we will be between cruises and hanging out at WDW... with Tim and Kamy!

I am hoping to get in on the early seating and heard there are good chances if you get to the boat early and change it then. I am going to keep checking with DCL to see if there are any openings. Hi everyone!!

Nice to see some more people on this thread!!

Loretta, you're right - it is kinda the Beano/Kamgen/paulcrsb/tarzanman show, but that's only because we can never stop talking! Kamgen and I are also compulsive planners. We need help - We need a 12 step program.

For those of you talking about staying at the Radisson, renting a car,etc... I have a suggestion:

Take a towncar or a limo from the airport to the Radisson. If you still want to rent a car, there is an Avis rental office right inside the Radisson. I rented from them last year so we could go to Kennedy Space Center. Got a nice new Ford Escort for about $40 for the whole day. The Radisson also has a free shuttle to the port... Just a suggestion!!

I also suggest getting your ressies in for the Radisson. When they release "Fall codes", you can always get it applied so you get the lower rate.

I personally love having the whirlpool, but ask yourself if you think you'll get use from it. Sometimes not, especially if you're there only one night before the cruise.

And just wait until the cruise is only a few weeks/days away...
We'll be going NUTS here!!

You shoulda seen us last year... Kamy and I made our cruise thread look like an instant messaging program!! We were posting every 10 minutes. Okay Beano, I took your advice and booked the Radisson today. I'm not sure if we'll actually stay there because we might not get in to MCO until late. I booked a regular room for $89. I think it was a visit Florida rate (or something like that).

Anybody have any thoughts on excursions? We were thinking of doing St. Maarten on our own and maybe an excursion to St. John while we're in St. Thomas.

I think that we're all compulsive planners!:p :p

I am just checking in. I want you guys to know that I haven't forgot about you. I am so syched about leaving for Vero Beach this Friday that my mind is absent. This week is going to take forever. As soon as we get back, we have to clean our house for Beano and fam and their arrival in Michigan. When all of that is over, we will be chatting up a freakin storm here. Nothing new though. Can't wait to meet you all on the dance floor. Paul, you know that is where I will be.

Spud - If you decide to go to St. John, I strongly advise doing it on your own rather than a DCL excursion... much better and much cheaper!! I'll gladly give you the details of doing it that way if you like.

I know we all have things we are looking forward to on this cruise; Castaway Cay, sailaway parties, etc. For me? Tim on the dance floor. Best entertainment value on board!! :)

However, I didn't count on the major surgery I ended up having last week and right now doing anything that strenuous seems totally out of the question:D
I would gladly settle for some snorkeling:cool:

Beano and friends, can you help?

Beano and friends?? Sounds like a kid's TV show. :)

I can't really help with scuba info, as I am not yet certified. Certifiable maybe!! But for snorkeling, I can't say enough about
St. John. Cinnamon Bay and Trunk Bay are both gorgeous.
We probably won't go to St. John this year, only because DW wants to spend more time (and money) in St. Thomas this year.
St. John took up most all our day, and she didn't get to see all of the shopping in Charlotte Amalie.

If you want to save time and stay on St. Thomas to snorkel, Megan's Bay is also nice, although much more crowded than the beaches of St. John.

Can't say anything about St. Maarten - we just shopped there, no beachcombing!

Oh, I think you are thinking of Beany and Cecil:D LOL! Boy, that makes me feel old!!

I've read good things about the Golden Eagle catamaran in St. Martin, that would include snorkeling, the whole fam could do that.
But friends have told me how lovely St. John is and how incredible the snorkeling and diving is there.
So my quandry comes from trying to decide where to let DH & DS dive. They let me plan everything, then they just go along. They are both very agreeable, but I still have to make the decision:)
It's a tough job, but somebody has to be the compulsive planner in the family;)

Plus, know I've read you can also dive at CC, wonder how good that is?

Loretta, you sound like me... I do ALL the planning and ressies for my family, and they just go with whatever I plan!

I haven't let 'em down yet... :)

If you aren't concerned about seeing too much of St. Thomas, then you should definitely make your plans to go to St. John. The snorkeling is among the best I have ever seen anywhere, including Hawaii, Cayman, Mexico and Jamaica. St. John wins hands-down!

The choices, the choices!
All decisions in life should be as tough as this one, hmmm...St Thomas or St. John:D LOL!

I have thought about missing out on St. Thomas, we did not get to see Cozumel after we spent the diving. I guess this is another reason to plan another cruise;)

Serena, I booked by calling Avis for the following rates yesterda. Budget was much more expensive:

17th-18th (Airport to Port Cavaveral) $33.11
25th returning to airport ($44)

That was still cheaper than going with the Disney transfer. I figure I can still keep looking for cheaper rates. I am booked at the Radisson for $89, but wish I could find something cheaper than that......

On Dave's DCL tribute site, there is a link for Space Coast lodging. There are quite a few hotels in the area, he had some mini reviews on them. This might help decide what is worth the cost. I have stayed at Doubletree at the port, it was pretty nice, right on the beach, but the extra day we were there it rained, so having beach front was not really an issue.
Lots of DISers meet up at the Radisson and that could be fun depending on your arrival time. If you only need a place to sleep before the night of the cruise (D/T late arrival, etc.) then you might be able to find someplace cheaper on Dave's list.

Serena, I only used my double upgrade Entertainment coupon to a full size car. Where did you find the Walmart code?

From Port Canaveral $39.59 (44.55 w/tax)intermediate car

Serena, thanks! That is the same price I got by calling in straight to Avis. I found another website roomsaver.com Right now they only have summer specials for the Radisson, so I plan to keep checking the site every now and then. Rena

P.S. Do you plan to use Flounders? I found out it is $6 an hour. I thought I would book one evening and go to Palo's. It all depends on how comfortable I feel about leaving her. I have read the service is very good.

Rena-

Yes, I plan to use Flounders. I am a SAHM so I normally don't leave either of my kids w/ just anyone........but I think that they will be in good hands at Flounders and Oceaneers club.I'm going to try and put the baby in several evenings(if she likes it)....possible a couple hours one afternoon for Palo Brunch. My son will be 3 1/2......hopefully he will want to spend a lot of time in the club too. I'm so looking forward to myself and my hubby finally having a little break. :)

I too am a SAHM and leary of leaving her with just anyone. I figured I could book some time and if she doesn't like it they can just page me. Have you received any detailed information about the cruise. All I have is the AAA book I got when I booked that has general info.

The paging thing seems really great....and we will be so close that I don't think I will feel as nervous leaving them in Flounders or the club. Lol I least I hope not :O)

I booked w/ Costco...but I have the AAA brochure too. Do you have the Passporter book? I got mine in the mail last month..it is really good....lots of useful info for our Disney cruise. Here is a link to where I got it from. This is the lowest I could find this book for ($10.67 w/free shipping) . I'm not sure if this site is still offering the free shipping though. You can also get it at your local Barnes and Noble if you can't wait :)

Serena, I will check into that book. I had not heard of it. I am finalizing my airline tickets tomorrow. That will be a relief!

I hope this isn't the stupid thing to do but.....I waiting a little longer to see if the price on airfare go down so I can get a better deal. What airlines are you flying? I have frequent flier miles w/ America West so I'm trying to stick w/ them.

Perchinske

I have miles w/ Continental and the ticket price is $226. We will get $75(each) off of 2 of the 3 tickets. I figured I probably won't do much better than that. That is flying Cleveland to Orlando...

Hi everyone...

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend!

We are now LESS then 5 months from cruise time! I got my airline tickets last week, and that always makes it seem closer and more 'real'! I got tired of waiting for fares to come down, so I bit the bullet and just bought 'em.

Now if Disney would just send me my cruise docs, we could go!!
I guess I won't start looking for them quite yet. :)
