Has anyone watched a shuttle launch around KSC? SC

Has anyone watched a shuttle launch from around the KSC? If so where? How was the view? What was the cost? Was it worth it? Any info. would be appreciated.

P.S. We aren't interested in the KSC tour, we live in Texas and have be to the JSC alot!

You can find all you need to know for viewing location suggestions at www.ksc.nasa.gov This is where I found out about getting the car passes to go on-site for viewing, I have them for the November launches and hope to get to take my two boys to see one. The schedules aren't usually confirmed til closer to launch days. So it can be difficult to plan too far in advance. I also have no desire to tour NASA but would be thrilled to witness a launch.
