I don’t even officially have a real ticker yet but I am going to be doing my PTR/TR all together, right here, for your reading pleasure! :cool1:

What’s this you are asking? How can I plan and start a PTR/TR with no dates? Wait and see. popcorn::

First, the cast of characters for the upcoming trip.

Joe – my DH. If you recall from my last TR, Joe has asked that I not post his photo on the boards. Last trip I tried to take random photos like this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BD9X4QXwASo/T_TRIs3y2UI/AAAAAAAABu0/3OrcVbsZDnw/s400/22_Joecoconut.jpg

I’m going to have to try & change his mind. He’s such a handsome guy, I feel guilty blurring out his face. But I will if it keeps him happy. Joe is such a Disney-holic. (Does a side view count? I hope not! ) http://images3a.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp73454%3Enu%3D3253%3E495%3E7%3B8%3EWS NRCG%3D37%3A47%3A44%3C932%3Bnu0mrj I bet he watches a Disney related video on you-tube at least once a day. You’d never guess how I had to insist and stomp my foot before our first Disney trip. While we have done a Disney trip for Joe’s birthday, it was not a magical birthday trip. Let’s just say Wilderness Lodge fell from grace that trip.

Katie – https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_5P3oSeCTqo/T7Bop-noEyI/AAAAAAAABHM/GRZLjrvKCR0/s394/2012-05-05+13.55.48.jpg

Our little monkey. (oops, I’ve been asked not to call her that any more. SHHH don’t tell her). Katie is 9, and is every bit the early tween. The swings between little girl-ness and teenage attitude are crazy. She is so psyched that we are traveling with friends, as it means she will have a buddy to play and “hang out” with. She keeps asking me why we can’t just go adopt a girl her age so she has a sister. Sigh. I wish it were all that simple. But it’s just not going to happen in our family. She will have to be content with girl-friends & cousins.

Me- the planner! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fNf5THR9PGI/TotqszxUMDI/AAAAAAAACUU/EUNdgIiHp8Q/w533-h531-p-k/cropped_meJuly11.jpg I love planning our Disney trips! I wanted to go to Disney when I graduated college, and while Joe said yes, he wouldn’t commit to dates or request time off of work. Life happened and we didn’t go. When Katie was born in 2003, I started a small savings account specifically for a trip to Disney World. Nothing huge, $10 a week tucked away. Our goal year was 2008 – she’d be four or five and just right in our minds. Turns out that 2006 just sucked. What a crappy crappy crappy year. My sister died, my best friend nearly died and was in a medically induced coma for a month, and our first child – our four legged one, died as well. Sometime late that fall, we decided that we really needed to do something fun, so our first Disney trip was planned. It was absolutely magical – everything that you dream your first trip would be. We were hooked completely. We knew that this was our new Happy Place and that it was where we wanted to spend as many vacations as we could manage! http://images3a.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp733%3C5%3Enu%3D3253%3E495%3E7%3B8%3E WSNRCG%3D37%3A47569%3A532%3Bnu0mrj

And our friends who will be traveling with us. http://images5a.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp633%3B4%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3E WSNRCG%3D3538927%3B7%3B32%3Anu0mrjO'Malley, Marie, and Duchess

I am waiting for permission to post photos but have given them Disney names for our trip. No faces here, everyone was working on painting ceramics on a recent camping trip: http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp54398%3Enu%3D3253%3E495%3E7%3B8%3EWS NRCG%3D38489%3A%3C%3B%3A932%3Bnu0mrj (Permission has since been granted provided no real names. Yay! )

We met when our daughters were in childcare together as infants, and hit it off while we waited and chatted during their gymnastics classes. We try to take 3 – 4 camping trips a season together (well you know, side by side) and get together randomly outside of “camping season” – we always have a great time. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp53638%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWS NRCG%3D32394%3B6982327nu0mrj(Yes, we do get silly :rotfl2: :drinking1) They went to Disney World for the first time a month after we did in 2007. We’ve been back three times since then, this will be their first time back since ’07.

Duchess – aka Mom - http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp53445%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWS NRCG%3D323876%3C882463nu0mrjis usually the trip planner for her family gatherings. She and I will share some of the planning here. We have a great time together, hiking, playing games, or just chatting over a glass of wine. Duchess has been to Disney World several times, in college, with her family, with hubby O’Mally in the pre-child years, and with their daughter Marie in ‘07.

I showed Duchess my spreadsheet for meal planning for this trip, and my trip binder for past reports. She seemed to think I was a little out of control,:p but with a giggle that says “I like it!” I think it was the games that I put in our pocket-planner for in the parks.

O’Malley – aka Dad or trouble – O’Malley is definitely our alley cat, keeping us going, laughing, and having fun. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp5363%3B%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3E WSNRCG%3D32394%3B698233%3Cnu0mrj He & Joe hit it off right away. Between the two of them there is not a Mel Brooks movie that they can’t quote. Scary J I know O’Malley went to WDW with Duchess in their early married years, and with Marie in ’07, but am not sure if he went with his family when they were kids.

Marie – their daughter. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp53444%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWS NRCG%3D323876%3C87%3B8%3B3nu0mrj

Marie’s birthday is the first week of May, one of our potential trip weeks & she will be 10. It will be interesting to see how we survive traveling with two ‘tween girls. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp53636%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3EWS NRCG%3D32394%3B6982329nu0mrj She and Katie are in different schools and are rather opposite when it comes to school work – Marie is very focused, and always strives to be the best at everything. Katie is pretty much her mom – enjoying life, doing her best at what she can, but shrugs off most things (but not all) that don’t go her way. But they both love music, arts & crafts, camping, and swimming among other things. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp5363%3B%3Enu%3D3264%3E876%3E6%3A4%3E WSNRCG%3D32394%3B697454%3Bnu0mrjOh and drama. Definitely drama. We parents are not sure which of them will win an Emmy first, but they both will!

Typically when we have an extended trip, we make sure to break up our time so that we are not spending every second of every day together – it makes the girls quarrelsome sometimes:scared: (though not so much this summer I noticed). I am pretty sure that this trip will be the same way, with some breaks with families doing their own thing, or maybe the guys doing one thing & the girls another.

(sorry this entry is rather dry on photos...)

We have been camping for a few years now, and really enjoy it. But this past year, we had some issues with our RV. Issues that we just couldn’t get past. So we decided to sell it. We didn’t get a lot for it – it was big, but had no generator, so that affects the selling price. A lot apparently. :worried: Anyway, after tossing around different ideas, we finally decided that instead of buying a smaller trailer to camp in (we bought a tent instead!), we’d rather use that money going where we love – Disney.

We’d looked at purchasing DVC directly from Disney before, and while we had our finger hovering over the button, it just wasn’t realistically in our budget. Then we explored the DVC resale market. I read through the boards, and followed links to the most discussed, recommended, and used resale brokers. I subscribed to their updates to see what was on sale and the pricing. We had a budget with not much wiggle room.

We explored the various DVC resorts through videos, TR’s, youtube, etc. but it didn’t take much to narrow it down to two resorts where we’d most like to own. Saratoga Springs or Old Key West. Those two more than any other just felt like home. (Mind you, we've never physically been to either, but have seen and read so much about them that we just knew) And OKW more than SSR. Then we saw the deal. It was a good one and I called Joe as soon as I saw it on my e-mail. 115 points, June use year, and the best part was that there were two years of points waiting to be used. It was totally in our budget financially, and the points would cover our little family of three for any season. I jumped on it! When our paperwork came, we took care of it right away & sent it back.

And we waited.

Our contract went to Disney for ROFR (If you are not familiar with DVC resale, Disney has the first right to buy back any contract. So if your bid is too low, or it’s a property that Disney is interested in, they can buy it out from under you. They have 30 days to review every DVC resale. Its called ROFR for right of first refusal).

In late October, we heard that while Disney was reviewing the paperwork, they saw that the sellers missed something, and it had to go back to them. :rolleyes2 Unfortunately, the sellers lived in NJ, which was pretty hard hit by Hurricane Sandy. So we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

We contemplated walking away and trying for another deal, but this was really just what we wanted. So we waited more. I'm so sure that our broker was :rolleyes2 everytime he saw my name in his inbox. I checked in weekly. (and thought that this was mighty patient of me! :))

It took forever for the sellers to finally get all of their paperwork done right and returned. Finally in December the contract went back to Disney for another 30 days for ROFR. Oh we were close! :banana: So we really started looking at when we could go, what we would do, how we would use those 230 points before June 1.

We realized that we had enough points to get two rooms during the off season, and so asked our friends if they were interested in going with us for the trip. And waited more.

I came up with a list of 7 different weeks that would work with our point-budget, and emailed that list to my friend so that they could look at their schedules. We narrowed it down to 2 weeks in February, 1 week in March, 2 weeks in April, and 2 weeks in May.
popcorn::

In early January (the 8th maybe?) I got the email that ROFR was waived and the points were ours. WHOOPEEEEE If you are on the DIS group on Facebook you may have seen me whooping it up there. So we waited to get our contract so that we can sign & send our money.
popcorn::
In the meantime, we four adults all discussed those possible weeks with our respective supervisors at work. Hmm. that changed a few things. Now we were down to 1 week in February (My birthday, but also the week of President's day) and two weeks in May. dang.
popcorn::popcorn::
While Joe was hoping to go over my birthday, the more I looked at the crowd levels, read TR's and took input from fellow DIS'ers, I just knew that it would be a bad idea.
still, we were waiting.popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

I messaged our broker & asked about the status of the closing paperwork, only to learn of yet another delay. AAAAAGGGGHHH. :eek:

Apparently there is some legal paperwork related to selling the property while the estate is going through bankruptcy that had not been filed. (will someone please tell me why the seller’s agent/broker did not notice this missing paperwork?:furious: SHEESH!) Long story short, we are now looking at our DVC purchase closing around March 31. Which means that we won’t have our points until probably mid-April.:scared1:

As soon as I can possibly do so, I’ll be on the phone trying to get our reservations.

Reservations?

What reservations?

We're taking a sneak trip to Disney World!

Last week I came home from work to this question: "Is it wrong to just sneak away for the weekend and go to Disney?"

now truthfully, my first answer was "Yes! its expensive! We'll be there soon" and then, when he mentioned going for my birthday, I pointed out how ridiculously crowded the predictions are - the end of President's week AND the Tinkerbell half-marathon. No way. .....but then the little voice in my head had to chime in. and she kept saying "You don't have to go to a park you can just visit the area"

Soooo after a little online looking, and a quick phone call to hubby who promised me that he'd had this little nest egg set aside specifically for a weekend getaway for two, and plans were made.:woohoo:

Did I mention that we will be going for my birthday? :love:

We'll be flying out Friday morning and reaching Sanford airport a little after noon. Picking up a rental car & driving to the Royal Plaza, right down the road from Downtown Disney.

So PSYCHED

I made reservations at Kona for dinner at 6:40, with plans to just sit on the beach afterwards to watch the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom.

Saturday we are planning to tour some of the resorts (OKW and SSR) that we never seem to have time to do, and to spend some time in Downtown Disney. Joe mentioned DisneyQuest - so we may do that. We'll be playing it by ear. I'm hoping to catch either some good entertainment at Paradisio 37 in DTD or maybe even do a bit of dancing over at the Boardwalk.

What would you do? No parks.

We fly out again Sunday morning

crazy I know! :upsidedow But isn't my hubby sweet? :love:

LOVE the intros, and love that you are getting away for a "birthday weekend" with Joe. How about going to the Coroando's Rix Lounge where they have a DJ on the weekends and it's a little more "romantic?"

First a comment about our upcoming "quickie" :lmao::lmao::lmao: trip. I read over the activities inside DisneyQuest and I kid you not....just READING some of the virtual descriptions left me a little queasy -- I told Joe that DQ is off my list.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and now back to our regularly scheduled PTR
We don’t need no stinkin’ reservations!
Well, we had this long list of potential weeks, which after delay after delay, and work responsibilities preventing certain weeks, we narrowed it down to only one week -May 4 – 11. Which is cool. It’s the week between Marie and Joe’s birthdays. I haven’t mentioned this to Joe, but I will be getting birthday pins for both of them.
Yeah. I know. Flower & Garden, and we won’t be able to make reservations till April. Sounds like fun, right? NOOOOO not for this planner girl!
Where we want to stay: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb136/Luvwrestling/Day3093.jpg
(borrowed from KatMark TR)
We are looking at staying at OKW, Boardwalk, AK or SSR sort of in that order. We have accepted the fact that we may end up staying at multiple resorts based on availability. OKW will be our home resort, and we are really looking forward to staying there. I hope we get lucky!!
We chatted with our friends about the whole delay, messed up, inability to make concrete reservations over the weekend. Happily we are all “go with the flow” type of people, and hey, if we have to resort hop, at least we will be able to experience several different deluxe villa resorts. That’s pretty cool, right?
Regardless of where we are staying, we will be driving. Our friends have opted to caravan & follow in their car instead of us all going in our minivan. We’ll leave on a Friday night after work & dinner. It’s a 16 hour drive, so even with coffee & gas and a breakfast stops on the way (they really don’t take that long!) we should get there around 1 – 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Not sure “where” “there” is going to be, but it will be in DisneyWorld!
I have to give a HUGE shout out to eandesmom, who has given me a ton of help in sorting out potential dates, crowd levels, etc. as I try to sort through all this planning. You really rock!!!
OH, and lest I forget, once I get my DVC member number & my points are in the bank, I also have a second trip to plan. WOOHOOOO. The real reason we wanted to finally just chug the kool aid is that we want to experience DisneyWorld at Halloween. That was our real goal for 2013. So how tickled are we that we get to go twice in one year!!
Congrats on your DVC purchase. If you have a car you will be happy no matter where you stay. I think OKW is a great choice. It's a wonderful resort and the points are low. So win-win!
As far as the overnight traveling - I still don't think I could do it. We'll see how the daytime drive goes in June before I try to tackle that.
Looking forward to hearing more.
I think if we were there longer, or if we were AP holders, it would be a different story. but as it is we are looking forward to doing some of the non-park things that are always on our "to do" list and never get done!
We are so anxious for the darned thing to actually finalize. ugh the frustration of the resale. I guess most resales are not this troublesome but its just our luck. I think my last name was supposed to be Murphy.
Joe is a real night owl, and prefers the night shift, so it worked out pretty well last time. I start out the driving, in the daylight, and then when I am tired (last time it was when we hit Virginia) then he takes over. What we did learn on our last trip driving was that on the way TO Disney, its easy -- excitement and adrenaline keeps you going. On the way home, well, not so much!!! so we have it planned to drive most of the day Saturday and if we need to stop & sleep at night, we can just hit a motel on the highway & then get an early start sunday morning.
You at least get to skip the whole Phila / DC disaster for your drive. Nice!
I so hope you get OKW! I really think you will love it...it is so pretty and peaceful.
Two trips? I guess I missed the Halloween trip. Now after you experience that, you'll have to do a Christmas trip. I'm torn...but I think Christmas wins out just a tad more for me over our Halloween trips.
You didn't miss the Halloween trip. I can't even plan it yet till I get the freaking points. I know you can sympathize with how much it is KILLING me that I cannot make reservations for the fall either. I suppose my consolation is that by the time we finally close, it will be within 7 months so I can shoot for any DVC resort, not just OKW. though I'd much rather have my OKW reservation solidified.
and yes, after Halloween we will do Christmas. It was a close call for this coming fall which holiday we'd do, but I think the lure of MNSSHP and F&W at the same time won out. I think that we will have to bite the bullet and to a July trip in between because Katie is getting a little sad that we have not done Disney for her birthday (July 8).
I see you just posted your Christmas party day -- have to sneak over and read that. and I'm anxious to ready about Mary Ellen & Cynthia's MNSSHP too.
I have to tell you every year about this time, Joe starts jonesing for warm weather & Disney World. I always tell him no, it's too expensive. Well, he had some "mad money" set aside to be used for just this - a splurge weekend or something fun, no bills allowed:lmao:. While I did put a stop to any parks - including "the dark side" of Harry Potter land, how can I resist a weekend of warm weather, kicking back, and touring Downtown Disney and some resorts? :confused3 no can do!!!
Till we pay for meals once we get there, our weekend splurge will have cost $1,000 including airfare, car rental, hotel, etc. I'll let you know later if we destroyed that (though really we can't because we have two family trips in the works for this year!!)
We are getting SOOO anxious for 2/22 to come along!
Here goes:
`````````````````````````````````````

****** What to do for my crazy birthday weekend! *******

We are flying into Sanford airport and our flight lands a little after noon. I rented a car & we’ll head to Orlando. Joe has to work the night before (he works a lot of midnight – 8am shifts) so I know he is hoping to at least catch a little sleep on the flight down and possibly in the car on the way to the hotel. :drive:

We are not staying at a Disney resort, but we are staying inside the Disney World area, at the Port Royal hotel. I saw a good discount code on my Mousesavers newsletter, and it has decent reviews. Again, I’ll keep you posted on our first non-Disney resort stay!

The hotel’s posted check in time is 4 p.m. I’m wondering if they are as generous as DisneyWorld in allowing for early check-ins. It would be lovely for Joe if he could have a nap in a real bed instead of only sitting up on the plane & in the car. Otherwise he will be :crazy2: and needing lots of :coffee:.

Hoping that he can sleep, I plan to head to the nearest grocery store for protein shakes & water (unless I do that on the drive in, which I may if I see a store that is easily accessible from the highway). While he is sleeping, I will wander the hotel & maybe catch a little sun by the pool :beach:(if its over 80 that is!).

Friday evening, we have dinner reservations at Kona, timed so that when we are finished, we can pick up something yummy to drink (can we say LapuLapu! http://www.teammandown.com/temp/lapu.jpg (photo borrowed from disboards) and watch the fireworks from the Polynesian beach. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee279/mekopp/Disney%20June%202012%20part%202/IMG_5500.jpg(borrowed from MEK’s TR) This is something that I have wanted to do since I read about it here on the boards. It just sound so peaceful, sitting on the beach watching the fireworks. Definitely how I want to spend my birthday!

While it makes us sound like old farts;) after this we will go back to the hotel. If Joe even manages to stay awake through the fireworks, he will be quite tired from only napping during the day. And we have a lot planned for Saturday!

Saturday:

While we won’t be up before dawn, there is just no sleeping in at Disney, even if we’re not at the parks! I’ll probably get up earlier than Joe & get some power walking in on the treadmill before the day really begins.

For breakfast we are heading out for what is (supposedly) one of Orlando’s best pancake spots. Keke’s Breakfast Café. It’s about 15-20 minutes drive from the Downtown Disney area.
http://www.kekesbreakfastcafe.com/breakfastmenu.html

Joe loves a good pancake meal – he has been craving the pancake dish he had in St. Augustine last June -- https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-N5HgJMj_UsI/T_TQsnLngiI/AAAAAAAABuY/0gYchOUXUmI/s400/11_joes_peanutbutterbananapecanpancakes.JPG
So I did a bit of googling and found Keke’s. Have you been there? Heard of it? Let me know if you have. They claim to be from PA and decided that Floridians needed real old fashioned pancakes, and that's how they came up with their restaurant & menu. The menu looks great so I’ll keep you all posted!

After breakfast, we are planning to visit Old Key West. We are buying the points (if it ever finally closes!!!) but have never really visited the resort. I say really because after seeing so many gorgeous photos on TR’s here (KatMark, MEK, EandEsmom, etc) I fell in love with the place. So we thought we’d either do a self tour, or possibly ask for the DVC tour of the resort. Part of me feels that its wasting the time of the DVC Cast member, but then again, maybe it gives them something to do also. I mean how many people want to spend a Saturday morning touring a resort? We already know we are not buying directly from DVC, but thought that taking their grand tour may show us the whole resort, and on our own we may miss some things.

We also want to visit the Animal Kingdom Resort. Its another spot that’s been on our list to visit for the last two trips. I’d really like to visit and see the animal preserve there, and walk around the resort itself.

I have to say I really am looking forward to a day of not being in parks – to spending some time at resorts and maybe downtown Disney.

Depending on the weather, we will probably spend at least a little time enjoying the pool. Joe has told Katie that we are going to the beach. I thought about dragging him to one, but it seems like a huge chunk of our day would be driving, so forget it! I'll settle for Poly's beach on Friday night!

We have not made dinner plans for Saturday night – I think we are going to play it by ear. There are certainly enough places to eat in the area. A few of the options we are looking at are Paradisio 37 in Downtown Disney, dinner & dancing at Rix at the Coronado (Thanks Kathy!) or spending the evening at the Boardwalk, enjoying the street performances, visiting Atlantic Dance Hall or the dueling pianos, and possibly catching some of Illuminations from the bridge between the Boardwalk & the Yacht Club. I recently installed the new My Disney Experience App, which offers dining times on it so I'll just check it out while we are there & see what we are in the mood for.

---side note: has anyone else downloaded this app? I have been disappointed in it so far because while it lets me see what's going on in the parks right now, it does not let me see my existing reservations. I hope they improve it soon.

While I am not a huge night owl, I am looking forward to spending the evening out. And pacing ourselves during the day, leaving a little pool and/or nap time, should let us (mostly me, Joe IS a night owl) stay up past my usual 10 pm bed time.

Sunday :sad2: there will be no sleeping in as we have an early flight out of Sanford. We have an 8:40 am flight so we will have to up & out the door pretty early. Sanford is about an hour's drive, plus we will have to return the rental. We are not checking any baggage so hopefully it will be fast & easy.

BTW if anyone has any advice/tidbits about Sanford, please share! Having never been there, I'd rather avoid any ugly surprises.

So are you doing a little birthday trip in addition to your OKW trip? Where are you flying out of to go to Sanford. I'm confused. I feel like a missed a piece of important info along the way.

My first DVC resale seemed to take a long time because it did not pass ROFR. My second one seemed to go smoother, but it is hard to be patient until those points are in the bank.

We will miss the Phila traffic when we drive, but we don't miss DC. Well, we will actually go do 301, across the Bay Bridge, and continue 301 all the way to Richmond. Technically longer, but it will keep us as far away from DC as possible and there are a lot of Wawas on the route - so coffee and clean bathrooms are a bonus!

Joe wanted to "get away" for my birthday, which is next week. So we booked a cheap flight on Allegient from ABE to Sanford & are staying in the Downtown Disney area. We are not going to any parks, but will still be getting our Disney fix. and maybe a little time for coffee on the verandah.;)

My first DVC resale seemed to take a long time because it did not pass ROFR. My second one seemed to go smoother, but it is hard to be patient until those points are in the bank.

oooh the patience thing is killing me. Lord help me if this runs past the date that our broker gave us as a "realistic expectation".

I am sooo bad at geography, so was thinking that you were below DC but guess not. I love knowing that Wawa is moving south -- and that there are now a few Wawas in Florida! I love their coffee best.mmmm.

I just ordered our AAA TripTix for our drive down. Last June we took that huge detour through NC to pick up Lesley so I wanted a clean set. We were going to go down through Phila but frankly for an extra 37 miles I do not mind driving out past Harrisburg and skipping Philly and DC traffic completely. Last year we ended up in the DC area at 11 p.m. and still sat in bumper to bumper traffic for about 45 minutes. ugh!

Tell me about it. I drove my son to a soccer tournament in Richmond a few years ago and I was stuck in traffic hell on that beltway for hours. Never again. You totally should do the extra 37 miles or do my trick of 301 (which might be longer for you, not sure). But basically you exit 95 at the University of Delaware exit (right before you enter Maryland). Head south straight to 301 and keep going south till you pick up 95 again in Richmond. You get off there and just go straight on the same road. It's pretty easy. There are some traffic lights around the outskirts of DC, but otherwise its a pleasant ride and actually gets very countryfied from time to time. Finding that route is the only reason I would even consider driving because the drive from Richmond is a no brainer.

Oh - and congrats on the b-day weekend trip. Very nice! Enjoy!

The birthday trip plans sound like so much fun...well except for the early flight back on Sunday! Lol. On our last trip in Sept. DH and I did the whole romantic Wishes on the beach. It was very romantic, except for the group of drunk people who kept saying, "Oh here's the big one....wait nope not it.":rotfl: and there kids who were having a game of tag on the beach and somehow we seemed to be in the middle of it :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: So maybe it wasn't the romantic moment we thought, but all I could think of was the awesome memories those families were making by being in Disney together.:goodvibes

Having DONE that drive my self quite a few times, I do not blame you for NOT wanting to be sitting bumper to bumper!

I wanted to say THANK YOU for watching Lisa's revel to help her BD wish come true, for commenting on it and for just being you!!!

Hi Judy!! Nope, not a fan of bumper to bumper traffic at all. How close is Lisa to her goal? I posted a link on my FB wall as well, hopefully more shares will bring her more views and likes. I just love watching that video!

Friday February 22, Katie and I got up and followed our usual routines – me to the treadmill & walking the dog, she getting ready for school—except instead of me getting ready for work, I was getting ready to FLY TO FLORIDA. YAHOOOO!:cool1:

Joe, my sweet hubby, was actually working a midnight shift, and got home at 8 a.m. – just in time to change out of uniform & into comfy traveling clothes. He put Katie on the bus as I did last minute things so as not to leave a mess for my wonderful sister in law, who was staying at our house for the weekend to take care of Katie & Thor.

By 8:45 we were in the car and on our way!!! We flew out of our local airport, which is an easy 15 -20 minute drive from home. I had pre-printed our boarding passes so once the car was parked, it was through the security check & up to the gates. Easy peasy!!! The most difficult thing was waiting in line to buy some water once we got to the gate. I like that kind of morning.

We flew Allegiant airlines – a first for us.

Pros: easy, they are at our local airport & fly relatively cheap to Sanford airport, just a bit north east of Orlando. They use the smaller sized planes – you know the type, three seat on one side, 2 on the other.

Cons: they charge you for absolutely everything. When I made my reservations, the form told me to select my seats – so I did, and was happy to reserve seats in the exit row for my 6’4 ½” hubby to stretch out his legs. But later I realized that I was charged for the privilege. Ok, that was worth it, and I have “upgraded” almost every flight we’ve ever taken in order to pick a row with leg room for Joe. But we also were charged to bring a carry-on suitcase. The only thing you get to bring “for free” onto allegiant is your one personal item, which must fit under the seat in front of you—and they are sticklers, too. And they charge you for any snack or drink you want on the plane, so bring your own. (I had anticipated this & grabbed a 100 calorie bag of nuts for Joe to snack on.)

We took off a few minutes early, and with only a bit of minor turbulence along the way, we landed in sunny Florida about 12:30. Yee ha!

We rented a car from Alamo (got a decent weekend rate when I booked the car rental at the same time as my flight through the Allegiant) and I happily picked a sporty red Dodge Avenger. I’ve been driving a big minivan for so long I forgot how zippy and easy to drive a normal car is. Joe laughed at me for once again picking the red car. Apparently I am predictable!!:lmao:

We hit the road, stopping at a Walmart for water, protein shakes, sunblock & food. Nothing fancy for lunch, we were out & out starving. Joe had a hoagie (sub for you non PA folks!) and I had two hard boiled eggs (minus the yolks). Need for food satisfied, we finished the drive to the Royal Plaza Hotel.

The Royal Plaza is right down the street from Downtown Disney and is very easy to get to despite the thick traffic. I used a savings code from a certain savers newsletter I get by e-mail so we had a decent rate. Basically we paid a “value” rate, but the beds were the comfort level of a moderate J

This being a “low budget” trip, I did not opt for any fancy views. Our room was nice – clean, simple. No fridge though. I kept the ice bucket filled to chill my protein drinks.

There was also a small couch near the sliding glass doors – my photo came out very very dark, so there’s no point in posting it. Opposite the couch were two wooden chairs (like kitchen chairs) but no table. Joe moved one chair next to the bed as an additional night stand for our stay.

Our small patio (no chairs on it) over looked first part of the roof and then the courtyard table area near the pool.

Once I unpacked, we walked around the hotel just to check out the pool, hot tub and gym locations, visit the gift shop & small Disney merchandise store, and check out their little café. By this time Joe looked ready to fall over. Understand that aside from a 2 hour nap the evening before, he had been up since 5 am on Thursday. He was beat! I convinced him to go lay down for a short nap & I’d be fine.

I headed out to check out the area – there was a shopping center I wanted to check out, and a souvenir shop with a crazy paint job that I just had to visit.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qftkOHnCP-Y/R0j4a-udMkI/AAAAAAAAAL4/u38k7SPjYd0/s320/IMG_0445.jpg
(image borrowed from tackyfabulousorlando)

The shopping center, which is opposite the Disney World sign on S Apopka Vineland Rd, is chock full of restaurants of all sorts – I remember taco bell, McDonalds, Red Lobster, FuddRuckers, Buffalo Wild Wings – about 20-25 places in all, mostly chains/franchises, and a grocery store. There was one non-chain restaurant, Johnny’s Hideaway – we ate there on Saturday. If you have a car, and are looking for something only slightly off-property, drive on up. Just follow signs for downtown Disney & keep going past it to the other hotels. If you don’t find what you are looking for in this shopping center, you have only to make a left or a right out of the shopping center and you will find loads of eateries.

It was a challenge to get to the tacky souvenir shop (it was on the opposite side of the road), but once in I found some decent deals and fun items. I bought a charm for Katie with her name on it (spelled correctly Kathryn, which is not found everywhere), a Mickey pin for Joe & an Orlando magnet for the fridge. And a made a note to come back in April, when we had no luggage space limitations.

I drove a bit further down past the shopping center and found more restaurants and more “bargain” stores advertising Disney merchandise. I stopped in one, and found lots of goodies and some adorable sundresses. I’ll be going back to that one in April. By the time I browsed a bit, it was time to go back & wake up Joe. I’d told him I’d be back at 5 and it was five of. Traffic made me just a few minutes late (traffic on that road was always ridiculous) and I returned about ten after & Joe was awake, refreshed and ready to head out.

Where were we off to? We had 6:40 dinner reservations at Kona Café! We arrived at the Polynesian a little before 6 pm, so we wandered around, checking out the gift shop and the art store. There was an artist visiting that evening – Michael Godard. Cool paintings that oddly have olives as a common element in just about all of his work. http://www.olivesgonewild.com/images/l/dirtymartini.jpg
(image from olivesgonewild.com)
He was signing purchases and looked like he was doing some sketching out in front. Joe and I were not familiar with him at all but there was a small group surrounding his table so clearly he had fans.

Eventually we went upstairs & checked in for our reservations. Waited a bit more, taking a photo of the pretty lobby floral/ fountain https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-gl5fbWRTNp0/US1gRmWtKUI/AAAAAAAACuo/0XCRPpTJ_1k/s800/IMAG0713.jpg

and checking out the menu. As we waited we watched this one dad with one toddler sitting on his shoulders push a second one in a stroller -- he did about 6 laps before he finally took the little one off his shoulders & made him stay with mom. They were cute, but Joe and I were reminded how much we were enjoying our child-free weekend :goodvibes

I was disappointed that the menu I had read on disboards was not exactly the same. The Crab cakes on the appetizer had a different cream sauce that looked too hot/spicy for me, and I had been looking forward to the pineapple relish that was no longer on the menu. I suppose I could have asked for it, but well, the Polynesian Pork Ribs looked good too, so I ordered that instead.

Joe ordered Portuguese bean & sausage soup, which he loved. He also ate the whole loaf of that yummmmy bread minus one tiny taste (I could not resist!). For dinner he ordered the Togarashi Spiced Ahi Tuna, with tempura fried vegetable maki roll (like an egg roll but with veggies & rice). He really enjoyed his dinner. Sorry, but he requested that we go photo-free for meals this trip. I just took notes instead. Here are photos that I’ve borrowed from the internet—they are the same a what we had:
Ahi Tuna:

http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p603/tuckerwilliam/Disney2012084.jpg
Pork Ribs:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8213/8271732406_12328724f6_z.jpg

The ribs just fell off the bone with my fork – very tender. The pickled vegetable slaw that came with it had an unusual flavor when I tasted it alone – I wasn’t wild about it . I did put some slaw and some pork on my fork at the same time, and it was a nice complement. But still I did not each much of the slaw. The ribs were great – but I only had room for about two of them. I took the remaining two in a box.

Sadly there was no room for dessert, and while I had every intention of ordering a Lapu Lapu for my post-dinner drink (I will almost always prefer to “spend” calories on a yummy drink than a sweet pastry or dessert), once I realized how truly big it was, and the fact that you pretty much HAD to drink it from a straw (Can you imagine lifting a big pineapple up to drink out of? Ridiculous!!!) I had to change my plan.

(*If this is the first (P)TR you’ve read of mine, you should know that in December of 2012 I underwent bariatric surgery and had the size of my stomach significantly reduced. This has been one of the best decisions I have ever made but I’m not selling you on it – I’m sharing it because as far as DIS reading goes, it makes a difference – I truly eat to live, not live to eat. I eat very small portions, 90% protein, don’t drink through straws, ever, nor do I ever drink soda, carbonated beverages, or while I am eating. I typically eat about 800 calories a day. So you’ll see some different perspectives on dining from me from now on. )
Tummies and taste buds satisfied, we wandered out to the beach. I had timed our dinner reservation so that we could watch Wishes from the beach, and was so looking forward to it! The weather was just perfect – warm with a light breeze, clear, no humidity. We wandered out and they were playing Tangled on the beach, so we grabbed two towels to sit on & watched a bit of the movie while we called Katie to check in and say good night. Luck was with us as the people sitting on the swing left – we sat on the swing a bit (can you believe the swinging was making me a bit motion sick? UGH!!) and then moved over to a lounge chair to sit side by side.

We were traveling light, so all photos are from my phone:

It really was a perfect way to spend my birthday evening – watching the fireworks reflect off of the water, with the castle glowing in the back, just magical.

After fireworks, we headed back to our hotel. We changed into our swimsuits and headed down to the hot tub. Joe stopped for a soda and I stopped in the lounge for something a little stronger. The bartender was very chatty but in the process forgot to add the cranberry juice to my Bay Breeze, so it was just vodka & pineapple juice. Nothing as fancy as the Lapu Lapu I had wanted that’s for sure!

After chatting and relaxing for a while, we decided to call it a night. It was early by many folk’s standards (maybe 10 pm? ) but well, it is what it is!

Sounds like a great day, MaryEllen (besides the airline charges for everything!).

The room looks quite lovely; I'm thinking maybe I should look at that over Pop (I'm just not sold on Pop for our one night in April).

Your dinner looks wonderful, and your pictures of Wishes from the beach at the Poly are terrific. I can't wait to do that in August...one of the things I've missed from when we used to stay at the Poly.

Can't wait to read more.

Good to know that Allegiant charges for EVERYTHING! Just in case I decide to fly them.

How was the Sanford airport?

The ahi tuna looks divine!

So no food issues for you? I remember one DISer who had a terrible time eating after her bariatric surgery. Everything got "stuck". It sounds like that would be pretty uncomfortable. I think everyone eats differently in Disney anyway and that can sometimes reek a little havoc on the GI tract (oh yes - this happened to me in October - spoiler alert), so I can imagine eating after bariatric surgery can be a little dicey at times. Still - congrats to you for taking this step. So awesome!

I really like your hotel room! That bathtub looks heavenly. (Although that could be because I'm only 2/3 done with my 2nd 12 hr. shift of 3! ;) ). My DH and I ate at Kona for our date night and we loved it. I thought your phone took fantastic photos of Wishes.

Kathy, the room was very nice. The hotel itself is undergoing renovations - they were working on the top floors this month, and are working on the lower floors starting in April. They are trying to be more "resort-like" I guess. We were happy with them--really we got POP prices for a CSR comfort level -- comfy beds, thicker walls :) Do you get the Mousesaver newsletter? That's where I got my discount code. I will look for the subscribe link & send it to you.

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed Poly that night. Dinner was just right, and sitting on the beach was, well, really romantic. There were a fair amount of people but every one was really well behaved and enjoying the movie & fireworks.

Sanford was a nice little airport -- size wise a little bigger than Lehigh Valley but not much. Funny though because the TSA agents at Lehigh Valley are umm well they give the impression of being a little laid back. Sanford's TSA were practically militant - in a good way. Well organized, they kept the line moving right along, polite and professional. Same thing for the Alamo rental agents. friendly & efficient - my type of professionals!!

Joe loved the tuna. I would have tasted it but he did say the sauce had a bit of a kick and I don't do spicy. I have been very careful since my surgery not to try wildly different things when I am away from home. I even "practiced" a sugary slushy drink at good friends with a tastefully simple electric blue lemonade bucket (yay, I should have no problems enjoying my Grand Marnier slushy!:cheer2:) But all in all I have not had any food issues. I really do stick to mostly proteins, and choose very carefully to find ones that will be moist - the "getting stuck" happens when food is even a tiny bit dry as post-bariatric patients do not drink with their meals, so you can't "wash it down". I am just now venturing into raw fruits and veggies, still avoiding most carbs aside from a tiny taste here and there like the bread. I have heard some scary stories about digestive issues, but they seem more to happen to folks who have had RNY (gastric bypass) and not the sleeve, which is what I had.

Here is a comparison of my 2009 drivers license (my worst year ever weight wise) and the one I had taken last week:

You can see just from the photos why this has been such a fantastic and life changing experience for me -- and that doesn't even clue you in to all of the other health improvements I've experienced. Its not for everyone, and its not "the easy way" even slightly, but its working for me.

LOL 12 hour shifts sound awful. DH's dept will be moving to them by the summer.

We've been to Kona now for breakfast and dinner and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. It definitely is on our return list, and well, Wishes from the beach is wonderful. I think I would even take a ferry out of MK to Poly for the FW & then go back if it were a late night. It was just so calming -- and frankly when my feet are tired from walking I just love squishing my toes in the sand:beach:, its a do it yourself massage!:lmao:

Mary Ellen,

I don't spend much time on the boards anymore but I just caught up on your thread and wanted to spend a minute to comment.

First, congrats on your success with your surgery. I am so happy it is going well for you and you look amazing in your current license picture:)

Second, :yay: for buying into DVC! I am so jealous but so so happy for your family:goodvibes

Third, I didn't know you were going to be in Fl last week. Caitlin, my sister and myself were there last week and had dinner at 'Ohana at 5:15 Feb. 22. Too funny that we were both in the Poly at the same time. I considered staying at the Poly beach to watch the fireworks but we ended up going back to MK that night. I really do wish I had known you were there, I would have loved to meet you. I have a feeling we will be in WDW at the same time one day and will finally meet then.

Diane - OH ! We WERE there at the same time! I wish I had known too.

I see you are running the Princess half next year --- Joe wants to start training for a Disney half & has been trying to talk me into running a 5K with him. I'm not quite ready to start running yet (literally, need to be faster at walking!) but soon. Maybe we will be there next year, but yes, we will meet there eventually!

We finally visited OKW last weekend - I haven't posted that yet (haven't written it yet!) but will. sneak peak: we loved it! :cheer2: (big surprise, right?)

I know, its so hard to travel to these places :rolleyes1 BUT there's hope. Wawa has started opening franchises in Florida. There is one in the Orlando area but not in the Disney area.

Wouldn't life be great if instead of yucky starbucks they served Wawa coffee in DisneyWorld? sigh:coffee: Love that wawa coffee! LOL

We had a great weekend. day two coming up :)

Saturday Joe & I were up bright & early. He got up around 5 & headed down to the gym. I got up a bit later & met up with him in the gym about 5:45. I know it sounds obscene but when you’re up that early 5 days a week, the body’s internal clock just goes off!

Joe finished his run before I finished my walk so he waited out by the pool & hot tub for me. We headed up to shower & get dressed for the day. I think Joe had a “pre-breakfast” of my leftover ribs from the night before.

This morning we were driving to Keke’s Breakfast Café, about 15 minutes away from the downtown Disney area. Joe loves pancakes, so I had done a little online research and found Keke’s. The menu looked awesome! We had a very pleasant drive, and found Keke’s in a little shopping center.

Joe already knew that he wanted the banana pecan pancakes. When I confirmed that the pancakes here didn’t come with eggs etc as they do at many places, I asked if he wanted eggs – I would order an omelet & he could finish it for me. I am trying hard not to pass off my food on my family but I know that he would normally order pancakes with eggs & meat so I figured this would be okay.

The pancakes were pretty big here, so Joe ordered one. It was a good 8” across & more than ½” thick. I found a plain pancake photo to show you the size:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/foodspotting-ec2/reviews/2434514/thumb_600.jpg?1348158773 (foodspotting blog).
When he was nearly done with this, he ordered a second!
I ordered a greek omelet – fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, and feta cheese in a 3 egg omelet. I passed on the toast, but got the home fries because I knew Joe would like them. They were made with red potatoes and very nicely seasoned. I had to taste one, right! MMMM I found a photo online https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-2cPod3pxPl4/UTEUtkrS51I/AAAAAAAACv4/Qa7mdu-QyvY/s600/kekesomelet.jpg
–just imagine no toast and then twice the amount of potatoes. It was tasty! I stepped away to the restroom & when I came back, my plate was empty & Joe was halfway through his second pancake. He was in heaven. Till the meal was over, then he wanted a cart to be wheeled out in LOL!

Best of all, the meal cost us less than $20. HA! Even with tolls on the highway it was cheaper than a Disney breakfast!

If you have a car and feel like venturing off property, look up Keke’s. there are about six locations in Florida, and 2 or 3 in the Orlando area. There were so many yummy things on the menu, we will venture back in April I think. I could see Katie enjoying the stuffed French toast on the menu for sure!(and maybe sharing a bit or two with dear old mom)

After breakfast, we hopped in the car and headed to explore what we are anxiously waiting to be our home away from home – Old Key West.

While no rooms were available for us to tour (it was early yet and people were not even checked out yet alone housekeeping cleaning) we wandered the property and checked out the community room, game room, Olivia’s, the pool area – everything. We just fell in love with the property. We walked along around a few buildings past a golf hole, just taking in the scenery and the feeling of the resort. So peaceful and calming, even though it really was very busy there.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jK38Hm8aKow/US1e8fjhnJI/AAAAAAAACs8/iaISuUfbUUc/s800/IMAG0738.jpg

Not that we’d had any doubts, but just walking around the property cemented for us that we had absolutely made the right resort decision. I have to give thanks to Mary Ellen, Kathy & Cynthia for their fabulous photos of OKW – they really did do justice to the property, but you can’t get the tranquility until you visit.

Curiosity sated for the moment, we decided to move on. Time to visit another DVC property that had been on our wish list for touring. Okay, mostly on MY wish list for touring, but Joe was happy to go!

After making a great big huge circle and stopping twice to google map where we were, we finally headed in the right direction – Animal Kingdom Lodge. Now you may recall that it took three trips before Joe really fell in love with the Animal Kingdom park, where as I loved it the first time I visited. He just is not into that tribal, earthy décor, and frankly, he hates “chant” style music – any chant style – like the popular Gregorian chants too. Or some of the celtic music I listen to. Just not his thing.

When we pulled up to the AKL gate house I just love the Jambo greeting. Its catchy! We parked outside of the main lodge. The outside of the building is structurally the same as the Wilderness Lodge (to us anyway), but of course the décor is totally different. Joe was not keen on the “stick” look to the outside , but I liked it and felt it really did make the resort feel totally different and in tune with the Animal Kingdom/African theme. Inside is just gorgeous! Joe commented that he wished he’d had crayons & a paper to do a rubbing of some of the floor “medallions” -- I could not get a good shot but here is a sample of one from flickr: https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQBF-N1Zis3e19kAmbL9hqtERtgVJNAKOq_RUI8YDFynAog5HHP3Q (https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQBF-N1Zis3e19kAmbL9hqtERtgVJNAKOq_RUI8YDFynAog5HHP3Q)

My favorite was the circle of live design: http://0.tqn.com/d/travelwithkids/1/0/c/d/1/dalk_floor_art.jpg

We were both drawn to this huge umm would you call this a statue? More like a 3D mosaic in my opinion, but very cool and interesting:

We wandered around inside, checked out the fire circle and some of the africaan art displayed around the lobby. Then we went out to the observation area.

WOW. So calm and serene to be out there just watching the animals eating, butterflies were everywhere. Did I mention that the weather was absolutely perfect? Low 80’s, low humidity, warm breeze blowing pretty consistently.

We thought this was funny – we were watching the giraffes, when the wart hogs started heading in and caught our attention. I am telling you this one giraffe walked closer to us, as if to say “hey, don’t watch those wart hogs, we are more beautiful, watch us!!” and as the wart hogs got closer and headed over to eat some grass just put out, the giraffe moved close to them, trying to reclaim our attention. It just struck us as funny.

We headed back inside for some nourishment. Well, food for me, Joe was still stuffed and just wanted something cold to drink. We went down to Mara, which was pretty busy. I grabbed a yogurt parfait from the refrigerated area & a diet coke for Joe and we went outside. We were going to sit by the main pool, but every seat was filled. We found an empty table with an umbrella near the kiddie pool and sat back, put our feet up and just enjoyed the scenery. Lots of fresh air, and it was fun to watch the little kids enjoy the pool. Two little girls Im guessing 3 and 5, were playing, and big sister was showing little sister how to dip her feet in the pool and run in a circle outside the pool to see how long their footprints would show. The girls didnt speak English, but it was clear what they were doing and when big sister was trying to give directions to her little sister.

We lounged for a little while and then circled around the pool area to the other observation area. Funniest looking duck I have ever seen red billed African duck I think it was called.

Seeing all that pool time made us wish for a little ourselves, and by now it was noon and pretty hot in the sun, so we headed back to our own hotel for a little R&R in the sun.

Sorry, no phone pix in a pool. It tends to void the warranty J We hung out for a little while Joe went in the pool first, but seeing him shiver told me there was no way I was going in any further than my ankles! So I sat on the side of the pool and chatted with Joe till he headed for warmer waters. I pulled my lounge chair over next to the hot top & hung out & read for a bit there till it started to fill up (2 teens, 2 tweens & a set of parents was full here!).

We changed out of our suits & decided to walk up to Downtown Disney. Traffic was really busy in this area due to the Family 5K, Princess Half AND Daytona races but DTD was pretty close, so a walk made sense.

We hit the toy store first. Oh what fun stuff!

We could not resist a light saber battle, and a cast member offered to snap a few photos:

This is where my photos end. We wandered around and stopped in a new eatery in Downtown Disney: Pollo Campero / Bodies All American. This is counter service dining chicken but with a latin flair. The food looked and smelled so good. They had a counter of drinks beer, wine, smoothies, a bakery whose name escapes me but they had gluten free baked goods. And a counter with milk shakes grown up milk shakes with liquors added. MMM Joe ordered a Banana milk shake made with Baileys Irish Cream. I took one sip it was delicious, very rich and sweet. I contemplated getting a glass of wine and suddenly realized that I had done something VERY un Disney and un magical. I walked out of World of Disney with an unpurchased pin trading case on my arm!!! OMG I looked at it for a second in disbelief, then quickly abandoned Joe to his yummy drink and scurried like a rat to pay the Mouse. The cast member at the register seemed unphased by my confession -- I was so mortified! With purchase in hand, I headed back to Joe, but alas he was all finished with his shake, so we moved on.

We walked back to our hotel to freshen up for dinner. We had reservations at Johnny's Hideaway, which was located in that shopping center I mentioned at the top end of the road. We were a little afraid that we were under-dressed to go in, but once inside we saw guests in varying levels from casual to dressy for dinner. Our meal (sorry no photos) was delicious.

Joe had filet mignon wrapped in bacon with garlic mashed potatoes. I had added a seafood side to his dinner of shrimp and scallop scampi. The waiter seemed a bit puzzled but Joe explained that I only eat small portions. The food was fabulous. I did order a mixed drink, which took quite a while to arrive -- that was disappointing to me because it meant I couldn't finish it and it was very yummy.

For dessert Joe ordered a slice of pina colada cake. OH MY I tasted a bite -- five torted layers of yummy moist pineapple cake with a very creamy white icing in between and toasted coconut covering the outside layer. SOOO Yummy! Joe was feeling a bit guilty eating the cake alone, so I held onto my spoon (the waiter had brought two spoons) and pretended to eat it while we chatted. :rotfl2:

Traffic getting out of the shopping center was like getting out of the Lincoln Tunnel at Friday rush hour. OMG it was nuts. after a while I got tired of a particular lane of traffic not playing fair and well, did what I would do at the Lincoln Tunnel and totally blocked them off. Joe was like :scared1: but hey, you do what ya gotta do, right?

By the time we got back to our hotel is was a little after 9 p.m. Our thoughts of heading to the Boardwalk for evening entertainment were gone. We were more thinking about how early we had to get up - 5 am.UGH! We headed to the pool/hot tub area and called it a night.

Sunday morning was all business - up, shower, dress & on the road by 6 am. We had a very easy, uneventful flight home and thus our weekend getaway was over.

feels like ages ago today even though its only been 10 days.

Next up, more April planning :goodvibes

What a wonderful update, MaryEllen. I am going to look up at that restaurant you ate breakfast at and check it out for our week in Florida as we do the "drive across the state" business trip. Mark is a huge pancake lover too.

I am so glad that you liked your visit to Old Key West; I can't wait until you actually stay there and you let us know what you thought.

I LOVE the AKL and we really hope to be back there in 2014 to celebrate the kids one year anniversary with them.

I love the hat shots and the saber fight. I think a good majority of us have probably done that walk out without paying mistake once in our lives.

Dinner sounds yummy...if not slow.

I know it wasn't a long trip, but so glad you were able to celebrate together.

Mark will not be disappointed. They have some yummy looking french toast and stuffed french toast options -- I want to take Katie so I can just taste off of her plate!!:lmao:

Having walked around we cannot wait to stay there. Fingers crossed that we can find a room there on short turn around when our DVC sale finally does close.

I thought of you when were were watching the animals from the observation area. I so totally understood your love for the AKL having visited there. We spent quite a while just enjoying the quietness out there.

I was shocked when I found that bag hanging on my arm. And of course for the rest of the day Joe would make comments like "now try not to steal anything" :sad2::rolleyes:

Dinner was just that - yummy (and slow) ;)

That short little weekend was just perfect -- it was a re-charge that Joe and I really needed.

Thanks for sticking with me.

I love that "The ladies think I'm fly" shirt. I really want to buy that one for my 13 year old, who is a swimmer, to wear atswim meets! (Now if only he would fly as fast as Dumbo!)

Aaaaccckk! Not paying the mouse? I bet your heart stopped! I know mine would have! But it was cool that the cashier was nonplussed by it. I wonder how often that happens at Disney? I bet a lot.

Well, all in all I would say it was a good weekend. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough! Haha! I really enjoyed your report. But your right, now its time for more planning!

Thanks Judy! I was cooking up some Irish traditions all weekend for my polish/Italian/Portuguese hubby and family. They were all very glad to share a touch of my Irish yesterday -- corned beef, colcannon, soda bread, salad and whiskey cake with good Irish whiskey. mmmmm I had some leftover corned beef for dinner tonight too. love that stuff!

Hope you all have better luck than the Irish this year Judy (because I swear we Irish are all named Murphy!)

planning update coming, hopefully tomorrow if it stays as quiet at work as it was today. Now I promised my little girl I'd snuggle up with her for the night.

Now back to our regularly scheduled PTR/TR

First, the DVC update:

Last Friday, 3/15, we FINALLY received an e-mail with our closing paperwork.:cool1::cool1: Happily, it came before lunch, so I was able to print everything out, sign it & take it home to Joe at lunch time. He went to the bank, got the cashiers check & mailed everything express mail. (We could have done a wire transfer, but I wasn’t sure what was involved, and if it was complicated it would frustrate Joe.) :cheer2::cheer2:

I tracked the package & know it was delivered on Monday (the title company was closed on Saturday).

Naturally I followed up with our broker, who reminded me that first we had to wait for the seller to sign his end. :faint:DOH. This freakin guy is KILLING ME. It’s Wednesday now and I STILL don’t know if he returned his paperwork. AAAAAGGGHHH.:(

Have I mentioned that in 6 weeks we will be heading out in the car & driving to Disney World? :drive: With no idea where we will be sleeping yet? OMG its killing me! :scared:

Some housekeeping/planning stuff:

Parks: for our impromptu spring trip, we will not be buying park hoppers. Actually, we will not be buying park passes at all.

WHAAAAT? :confused3

Well, some of you may recall that Wilderness Lodge and then Disney Customer relations botched Joe’s birthday trip in 2011. Four different rooms, and our final one had some maintenance issues, and a few other things that didn’t happen that really should have. The final result was that Disney Customer relations sent Joe an email with three 7-day park passes for us, valid until 2032. YES! While Joe and I did go to the world in June, we didn’t have Katie with us, so we used military passes courtesy of my BFF Lesley (she & her hubby are both veterans).

So for the spring trip, we will use our comp passes. For the fall, we are planning to buy annual passes and get the full benefit by planning a ’14 trip that allows us to use the same passes.

I tried explaining some of the fuzzy Disney math to Joe about all this vs buying non-expiring passes but his eyes just sort of glazed over, and he said he knew I'd do the homework & make the best choice. LOL

Dining Plan or No??

Since our family eating style has changed quite a bit in the few months, I sat down one day and created a big old spreadsheet to help me get a grasp on what would be the most cost effective way to plan our Disney dining. I mean, who does not LOVE all the yummy goodness available at Disney? For sure, we do! But we also don’t need to spend money on big food plans when I for one can’t eat enough to justify the cost. So I needed to determine what would work best for our whole family – Joe and Katie as well as me. Plus we will be traveling with another family – whose dietary needs are not the same as ours, but close. I ran numbers for the QSDP, DDP, TIW + OOP – the works.

Here’s what I determined: TIW + OOP is the best bet, hands down with one exception. Character meals. That’s the big if. All of the character meals except CRT are buffet meals. A huge waste for me. But a huge source of enjoyment for the rest of the family. And they are expensive. About $100 for each meal for our family of 3. And we do have a tradition of visiting Akershus Banquet Hall to breakfast with the princesses. And while we love seeing characters, we (okay, Joe and Katie—I would totally wait in line) hate waiting in line to see them so seeing them at a meal is a win win.

Several dining experiences recently gave a great learning experience as to how much leftovers there are, even when I only order an appetizer. At least for now, it make sense for me to share (which means eat a few bites of) someone’s (like Katie) meal, or to order an appetizer as my entrée, and share that with the table.

I ran my whole spreadsheet past our friends (I was informed that I have a problem :rotfl2::rotfl2:) as we discussed our upcoming trip. I let them know that Joe & I would defer to their preferences for this trip, but happily everyone agrees that TIW + OOP is the way to go. I’m going to see if I can stock up on Disney gift cards in advance to pay for most of our food using them. Then we can all go to a nice sit down and I can order an appetizer and be satisfied.

I am also hoping to score a 2 BR villa instead of 2 studios (although that will force me to borrow from next year's points) -- then we will have a kitchen and will definitely not need the DDP as we will breakfast in the room and possibly do a few dinners there as well. Or at least have a place to store & re-heat leftovers! (Even with a DVC studio we’ll have a microwave so can make some in-room light meals & leftovers.) Our recent trip showed us a whole host of “off site” options for dining that really emphasizes the relaxation part of the trip. I don't feel a huge need to cook and do "housework" on my vacation, but also know that even having breakfast & some lunches in-room saves a whole lot of money and can basically "fund" the dinners out.

Question for you readers - Is it permitted to bring something akin to a hot plate with you? We have a big electric griddle that we use while camping. Great for eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese, burgers, all sorts of stuff. If we can't get a 2 BR, I am planning to bring this to use in our studios. Is this breaking any rules?

ADR’s
So even though we are not doing a dining plan, in the interest of planning for the "just in case", I made ADRs for each day that we are in the World. These plans may (and likely will) change, but its nice to have a plan in case you don’t want to change it!

Saturday – Rose & Crown, Epcot

Sunday – 50’s Prime Time Café

Monday – Tony’s Town Square (this one is most likely to be canceled. We ate there in '07 and remember not being wild about it. )

Tuesday – The Captains Grille

Wednesday – Yak & Yeti (this may end up being changed to the Rainforest Café, which is Katie’s favorite place to eat.)

Thursday – The Plaza (after reading all of KatMark’s reviews, we have to try it!)

Friday- Coral Reef

I have not pored over all of the menus, so haven't pre-decided what we will order. Actually, its a little shocking that I haven't done that, and I see that I have some work to do. Any suggestions???

I don't know how it happened but I somehow got unsubscribed. :confused3 With me....who knows? Anyway, I'm caught up and promptly forgot what all I wanted to comment on. Again...with me...who knows? :rotfl: So, I'll just comment on what I do remember which is UGH! for having to wait on the seller. Doesn't that guy know that you're anxious to see where you'll lay your head when you go to Disney? :sad2:

I used to do the whole "do we buy the dining plan or not" debate with myself but finally stopped. John likes to have a nice sit-down meal every night and likes knowing that everything is paid for ahead of time even if it would work out better if we didn't have the dining plan. For us, it cuts it pretty close so I'm good with that.

I like the looks of your ADRs. We really enjoyed our meals at 50s Prime Time, The Plaza and Coral Reef. The only one on your list that was just a "so-so" meal was Rose & Crown. To us, it was a little bland but we are from Louisiana and like our stuff spicy or covered in gravy. :p

I KNOW!!!! Its just driving me nuts and I am really nervous that we won't be able to get any of the resorts that we want and we'll have to "blow the budget" with points and get into an ugly "borrow from next year into eternity situation. " I guess when you're buying a DVC you're so much more anxious than when you're getting rid of it. :confused3 But I seriously want to go knock on the man's door - he is only in the next state!!

This will be hard for Joe,too. He loves having everything taken care of and on one KTTW card. But cost wise its just crazy. It would take me a week of meals to eat the portions of one dinner. and I am trying very very hard not to have my family continually finish my meals - because they dont' need the calories, either!

Good to know about Rose & Crown. I'll have to take a look at the menu more carefully because Joe and our friends all like their meals with more of a kick. Because it will be Flower & Garden show, who knows, maybe we will just grab "snacks" at the new kiosks & fill up that way.

Can you tell I'm having a quiet week at work? SHHHH I love being able to catch up! Lisa, I started back in on your TR again last night too - but sadly am only up to reading your October updates *though they totally made me giggle* & didn't get to post because I once again fell asleep with my finger on the keyboard!:joker:

As far as Rose & Crown goes, we did enjoy sitting outside to eat our meal and the fact that they had a roped off area where we could watch Illuminations. If it weren't for that, we would have been disappointed. But, then again, we like food with, like you said "a kick" to it. Or at least some flavor.

First of all - please forgive me for missing so many updates. I really enjoyed reading about your b-day weekend trip. What a great time!

Second - wow - big change in your driver's license photo. You are one of the few people I know that looks good in their license photo.

Congrats on getting the paperwork for your DVC resale. I hope it goes really smoothly.

Your ADRs look great.

Thanks for the updates!

Oh no apologies necessary! I have turned into a DIS lurker on so many tr's, catching up when I can on my phone & nook in lines and waiting for basketball games. Life is busy and little trips to your online happy place shouldn't involve guilt or stress!:goodvibes

I think the last time I took a photo that I really really like was in ninth grade. that's saying something! :dance3:

Congrats on getting the paperwork for your DVC resale. I hope it goes really smoothly.

UGH can you believe I still have not had confirmation that the seller returned his paperwork? :sad2:

Thanks for the updates!

thanks for popping over Mary Ellen!!:wave2:

Maybe I should have planned dinner later so we could linger over fireworks. but the Flower Power Concert that night is members of Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and so we adults are planning on hightailing it over to catch the last show, though sadly it was mutually agreed by all (well 3 of us anyway) to leave the gold lame shorts &roller skates at home. I"ll leave it to you to guess who was pushing for the shorts.:rolleyes1 (hint: not me)

AAGH Just a DVC update before I post my last bit of planning. I'm a bit grumbly about this I have to admit.

So the Friday before last (March 15) we received our contract. woohooo:cool1: we signed it, and immediately sent it back with our cashiers check for the DVC purchase. I immediately emailed the title insurance lady and my broker with the tracking number & let her know its to be delivered the next day (Saturday). No response.

On Saturday I see (from the USPS) that the title co office was closed. Okay, people are off Saturday.
On Monday I see that the package was delivered (love tracking numbers) but no message or email from the title lady confirming receipt. humph.

On Tuesday I email my broker, who in his reply to me copied the title lady and the seller's agent, letting me know that we were still waiting to hear from the seller, and had yet to receive his paperwork. He copied the other two so that they could follow up with an update.

On Thursday I follow up with all of them, asking if there was an update. Finally I hear back from the title lady saying she still hadn't heard from the seller, had called earlier in the week and would call again. Ok, I am not liking that bit at all!

On Friday evening I send an email to all of them, rather annoyed at this point, asking what is taking so long with getting this closed? I know that I used the word "ridiculous". I think I touched a nerve. :furious: On Saturday the title lady emailed me a long and detailed message about how much more complicated the seller's paperwork was, and that he'd told her that he sent them back on Thursday. Hmm, ya think that perhaps a bit of proactive messaging saying "paperwork is on its way" would have been nice?

So now Monday is nearly over. I don't know if they got the paperwork or not. still waiting. ergh. I will be so happy when this is finally all settled and we have our title and member number.

In related news, I had someone check on room availabilities for that week so at least I know that there are rooms available. That's a small relief to be sure!

coming next, our "want to do" list

Oh Mary Ellen,

I hope that your DVC business is settled soon...:confused3

I think that your ADR plans look good and that TIW & OOP sounds like a good way for you to go... the discount with TIW is good and sometimes you don't want to commit to a full meal with a dessert... I always wished you could choose a appetizer or dessert... but no go...

I also am a big fan of Dis math... I like you're whole Annual pass plan... (Eric got one in December... therefore we "have" to go in July to get the full use...;)

Sending you pixie dust that today will be the day the DVC settles...

I am once again checking my email every 20 minutes I swear! I just wish that the woman doing the title work were better with following up. YOu know, little things like "check received" "sellers paperwork in the mail" ....things that would keep me in the loop and not sending snarky emails:lmao:

Look at you checking email from Italy! :cheer2: Looks like you're having fun!

I remember the first year we did DDP I swear that we could choose appetizer or dessert AND the gratuity was included in the plan. Am I imagining the choice part of it? Frankly, 90% of the time I will choose my calories from yummy adult beverages over a dessert. This is challenging for me now because I can't drink right before, right after, or with my meal. Its definitely got me rethinking how to manage things.

I love DisMath. Just last night Joe pointed out that have apparently over planned vacation time, and hes' wondering how he can go to Disney next May when we promised Katie a 2014 birthday trip for her (July). I just said "Let me think on it and do some fuzzy Disney math":rotfl2:

Safe travels Patricia! For sure I'll be posting on the DVC department whenever its all really really really done. sheesh!

We are finally officially DVC owners. woohooo:cool1:

and more importantly, we finally have reservations!

Sorry I have been awol from here for a while. I just have been so busy with family and work projects I just haven't had much time to get online, and have been spending it catching up on all the great TRs here on the boards.

SO, where ya stayin (said like Isabella from Phineas & Ferb)

http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/03/a2/4a/40/disney-s-animal-kingdom.jpg(Photo from TripAdvisor.com) On Saturday 4/27 we will check into a two bedroom villa at Animal Kingdom Kidani Villas. We have standard view, so who knows what that view will look like. I'm looking forward to staying in one of the villas and having a kitchen for the first few days. and to the Jacuzzi tub. We never use ours at home but hey, maybe on vacation I will get a chance to soak for a little while.

On 4/30 we will check out of Kidani, and check into two separate studios at Saratoga Springs. http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/03/9f/e2/fa/disney-s-saratoga-springs.jpg (Photo from TripAdvisor.com) This also works out well for us. After camping together enough times, we have learned that after 3 days or so, Katie and Marie tend to start picking at each other and need some personal space. So switching to two completely different rooms will be good timing I think.

I didn't realize how quickly the DVC properties really do fill up. I went to make reservations for October and found that I could not get anything the week we want to go. I have waitlisted Animal Kingdom and OKW. I could have reserved for most of the week at Saratoga Springs, but here was one night, 10/13, which appears to be booked everywhere. bizarre! I am torn between just waiting (a risk and I am tired of risks!), changing weeks (but then Katie will have to miss 5 days of school instead of 3) in October, or giving up on Halloween and going after Thanksgiving instead (which Joe thinks is totally crazy).

Ok so moving on, now that we know where we are staying, I can share what we are doing once we actually get there, which, by the way, is in 11 days!!!

Our “want to do” list thus far:

-Watch Wishes from Poly’s beach (Joe and I just did this, but I think the whole group would enjoy it. Maybe on our AK day, when we are free in the evening) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X5bwrUFhyYo/US1gV8mqq8I/AAAAAAAACvM/_2fsRcGnZA4/s652/IMAG0734.jpg

- rent a paddle boat and/or bicycles to tour OKW (We took a good look at those rental bikes and are leaning toward the paddle boat!)

- Tethered balloon ride in Downtown Disney. Groupon had a GREAT deal (Thanks Brook!) for this, and I purchased two (for Katie and I) for $15. I am hoping I don’t freak out. http://thedisneyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/flight-balloon-med-500x361.jpg (borrowed from disney.blog)

- Yeeha Bob http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jHH4IyeqVEw/TkMpqNabioI/AAAAAAAABhA/_1gbtKKNjjM/s1600/yehaa+bob.jpg(borrowed from http://www.adisneymomsthoughts.com)

- visit Splitsville (okay this will probably only happen if we don’t have great weather)

- Ride RNR –DHS Neither Katie nor I have done Rockin Rollercoaster. I’m a bit afraid I’ll toss my cookies….so I’ll have to be sure not to eat any cookies! I am very sure that Marie has not ridden RNR, as she was only 4 the last time she was at WDW, and she has a real zeal for wild rides, so for sure she will want to ride this one. I don’t know if O’Malley or Duchess has done this ride.

-tower of terror DHS -- we may have to talk Katie into this one. She loves the dropping part but the video portion leading up to it scares her.

Congrats on your DVC purchase coming though and planning a trip so soon. that is truly awesome and I hope you have a wonderful time! :thumbsup2

Sorry you could not get a continuous stay for October, but I feel pretty certain your waitlist will come through. Our wait list came through last year. I honestly think people make the reservations, but they end up canceling when they decide they aren't going for F&W.

Enjoyed all your pictures and Katie is too cute! :goodvibes

Congrats on finally becoming a DVC member:banana:

What are your possible Oct dates? We aren't going to Disney but I have DH about 50% convinced we should do a Universal trip in Oct. I tried to get the week of Oct. 13 off but it was already full at work so I had to take the week of Oct. 6 instead:( I'm so bummed but not much I can do about it.

Thanks Mary Ellen. I am too new to know how well the waitlisting works out so hearing that it should come through makes me happy. It seemed strange to me that several options that I put in were open for every night except one. so I will keep my fingers crossed at this point!

I had fun looking through past year's photos for rides. I just love that one where Katie is sleeping, and Mr. Smee is trying to hard to wake her.:goodvibes

Right now we are wait listed for the week of Oct 13 at OKW and AKL because Katie's school is closed Monday & Tuesday, so she'd miss only 3 days. The week before (same week you're going!) is my back up, though I haven't made any reservations because to do it I'd have to borrow points from 2014 and I don't want to do that for October. But if we do go then, I'll let you know --Katie & Caitlin would be great pals!

You have inspired me for quite a few new adult libations there Patricia....I am not sure if I should be thanking your or not, but I will!

I'll fill you in on the Pirate Adventure, I am pretty sure we will check it all out!

In three days from now we will be packing up the mini van & hitting the road. CAN'T WAIT! :drive:

Duchess and I have been chatting and texting back and forth about what we'll be packing, travel details, and all the joys of getting nine year old girls through the week of school and PSSA's (state testing) :sad2:while we try to check off our to do lists at home and work before leaving.

I recently shared my Disney packing list with her and (GASP) she called me "anal". :lmao::rotfl2:Cracked me up! I have learned to list everything and just go down the list so I don't miss anything! I had her laughing even harder when I brought up her full binder, complete with TripTicks, maps of the states we'll go through, park plans in detail --- and a "mini planner" just of park days to keep on hand as we go. Hmm perhaps I do have a bit of a problem.:rolleyes1....I can't help myself. There is just SO MUCH to do at Disney that I want to make sure I get in the "wish I had done this" from the last trip, ya know?

As I go through my list of to do's I am happy to say I have completed quite a bit (as it should be, right?)

- Disney Visa redemption card received DONE
- put together travel binders (one per family) DONE
- finish park planners ( one per adult) DONE
- trip tix for the drive down DONE
- quarters & pennies in a tube for pressing pennies DONE
- mani /pedi DONE
- laundry - DONE (mostly!):laundy:
- Mickey Tye Dye's DONE (forgot to take a picture of all of them so you'll just have to wait till we all wear them!
- Mousekeeping Envelopes (nearly forgot about these, but we only need 3 so it will be fast & easy!)
- PhotoPass Purchase DONE
- packing clothes- I have packed for Katie & I, Joe has to pick his own clothes.
- packing toiletries
- Pack household stuff for DVC stay DONE
- pack a car bag (we are driving) with snacks, cd's, movies, fm transmitter, blankets
- pack dry grocery items DONE sort of (I have a bin into which I have been tossing stuff for the past week or so. I have to tidy it up and add just a few things to it still.)
- buy more dog treats
- vacuum
- clean guest room (SIL is house and dog sitting along with her two dogs. FUN!)
- finish up girl scout service unit purchases/ banking UGH a never ending saga for sure
- liquor store run DONE :goodvibes Figured I'd make my life easier and buy something pre-mixed, so I opted for Bacardi's rum punch which will be quite lovely by the pool. mmmm and wine of course, gotta have that!
- clean out car (ugh, my car is always a mess!)

So, you may be wondering what is the big plan?

We are meeting at a well located Wawa at 6 p.m. on Friday. This lets anyone who needs to fill up on gas, coffee, snacks & take care of any over excited bladders etc. and then we will hit the road.

In our car, I will take the first driving shift. I don't mind driving, but not at night - I get way too sleepy. Joe works a lot of midnight shifts, so he doesn't mind the night driving, so it works out well for us. Not exactly sure how Duchess & O'Malley are handling their shifts, but I think it may work out the same way.

The plan is to drive straight through, stopping of course for coffee, gas & bio breaks. Once the sun is up on Saturday we'll find a good place to stop for breakfast. By then we'll have been on the road 12-13 hours and should be in Georgia. Not sure where we'll stop, but it won't be a Waffle House. Joe's one and only experience with Waffle House was not good, and on last year's drive, I kept jokingly point out all the Waffle House locations from the road -- to which he'd reply, in a gravelly and deep south/cowboy sorta voice "I hates waffle house". silly but it still cracks us up.

Hopefully we adults will get to catch some sleep during our non-driving stretches so that we are not too over tired & miserable. :crazy2:

Once we get near Orlando, we'll need to make a Walmart stop. I know lots of folks are not fans of Wally world, but its a staple in our lives around here, and there's something to be said for consistency in traveling.

Top on the list are autograph-able tee's, especially for Katie but hopefully for all of us. Katie just LOVED her tee last year, and in February, Joe and I saw the same white Mickey tee so hopefully they'll have it -- it was perfect for the characters to sign. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4qSt-7klJ6Q/T_TlqvD0PqI/AAAAAAAABr4/rT1OjY4aDaA/s541/605_Katies_autographTshirt.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-1uQwTwasI7Y/T_Tl1Kny04I/AAAAAAAABsI/SG_eeMlS9xU/s406/606_katiesautographtshirtback.JPG

Unless I have better luck tonight, we'll need sunblock too. Its still pretty cold here in PA and so selections of sunblock are pretty slim, same for Off! wipes, which are great for keeping the mosquitoes away.

We're hoping to check in at Animal Kingdom around 1 p.m. I'm not expecting our room to be ready though it would be lovely. We have more shopping to do!

Next stop: Conch Flats General Store, Old Key West

Crazy as it sounds, neither Katie nor I have swim suits right now. A recent trip to Great Wolf Lodge in PA showed just how unwearable both of our suits were. (I apparently had a Sharon Stone moment ala Basic Instinct :blush: ) I had seen really cute Mickey suits at the OKW shop, but we were traveling light so didn't buy one in February. Now Miss K & I will cross our fingers that they are still in stock.

Moving on: Downtown Disney

Assuming our room is not ready yet, we have some dealing to do in Downtown Disney.
We need to pick up our park tickets for one. And we'll be buying a Tables in Wonderland card. We figured between this trip & our trip in October, it will more than pay for itself in meal discounts.

And Katie and I need to do this:
http://www.diz-abled.com/Disney-Resources/Disney-Photos/Downtown%20Disney/Disney-Balloon-Characters-i.jpg(Borrowed from Diz-abled.com).

Joe figures that he will need one of those banana foster mixed drinks in order to sit and watch his two girls go soaring off into the wild blue yonder :)

I'm not sure how long we will stay at Downtown Disney - we definitely want to get to a park on Saturday so we will play it by ear. (see, I can be casual about it ! LOL)

Is laundry every done? Seriously? :rotfl2:

I didn't realize Joe worked night shift. No wonder you can drive all night. That really does help with things.

Now here's my question - don't you guys hit a lot of traffic when you drive through DC that time of night?

Our drive to HHI was pretty uneventful a few weeks ago. I drove for the first four hours and actually made it to the NC welcome center. Pretty proud of myself. :thumbsup2

Did Katie really call you anal? :rotfl2:

I know!!! I had to do another load last night because my foolish hubby wore 3 different Mickey/Disney shirts between Sunday & Monday. Sheesh!! :laundy:

Joe LOVES night shift. At this point, he works every and any shift - and currently holds two different jobs so I live and die by our google calendar for sure. But overnight has been his shift of choice for years. As he puts it, all the stuffed shirts & bosses work day shift, and middles is the busiest shift because people are off work, drinking, partying, and doing stupid things. Midnights -- heck once the bars close it can be pretty quiet until people start heading out for work in the morning. Gotta love his thought process :rotfl:

We are going out 81 and heading down to 95 that way instead of down through Philly, so we skirt around DC, don't go through it. That said, we sat for about 45 minutes last year at 11 p.m. due to construction & an accident from lanes merging. but its better than going through in the middle of the day for sure!

I was watching your FB updates, it seemed like a nice easy drive.

It was my friend "Duchess" whose family is going with us---it cracked me up. she is the QUEEN of lists---I think I got my first packing list for camping from her actually -- so there's a lot of irony.

(though trust me, Katie probably has too!)

I was sad to tell her it's only Wednesday -- there are two more "wake ups" and school days after this. :laughing:

So glad you stopped over Judy -- you amaze me on a daily basis with what you are able to accomplish.

This trip I had to promise no detours (well I am insisting on a stop at South of the Border on the way home). BUT I am hoping that if Katie & I go to NC over the summer to visit my BFF that we can take a detour (though she is in Jacksonville, so its quite a detour) because we would love to meet you & your family in person.

I will let you know when I start my TR. I am hoping to get Joe to reconsider his photo ban, because it really puts a damper on my photos when I have to blur out my handsome hubby :goodvibes

Katie was absolutely bouncing in her chair this morning eating her breakfast, singing "one more day till Disney, one more day till Disney":lmao:

I'm sorry I've been missing in action. I have been crazed since I got back from Florida and just yesterday finally got to my own reports.

:yay::yay::yay::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: for finally having your "home." That is awesome. You are going to LOVE AKL...I so want to go back.

I'm sorry you are having trouble in October with getting some place.

Tell Joe, we went the week after Thanksgiving last year and the crowds were very low.

Plans sound great!

LOL I just realized yesterday that you had added your work/trip to your last TR... but didn't finish reading that either. Too much going on! Don't know how you are managing with the wedding coming so quickly!

Can't wait to be checking into AKL in approximately 49 hours.:cool1::cool1:

October is crazy. I don't understand why only one night is not available, but ME said that people book early and then cancel. worst case scenario, we pay OOP for a single night at an off site (cheaper) hotel--but that would be annoying for sure! At this point I have reservations at SSR for the week, with 10/13 wait listed, and a second waitlist for OKW. something will turn up, right? ::yes::

now I am watching for when they release dates for MNSSHP so that I can get our tickets. :upsidedow

When I suggested leaving the day after Thanksgiving he really thought I was nuts. (like he doesn't know this after 20+ years? LOL)
