Ever since I found the DISboards, I've met some great people. It is weird that you can tell a persons personality from what they type on a computer screen. Some people you 'click' with and others... well, become what can be only called as your nemesis. According to Webster, a NEMESIS is a formidable and usually victorious rival or opponent. I've found my nemesis here on the DIS. What better way to strike fear into his soul than to challenge him to run in the Walt Disney World 1/2 marathon? Neither of us were runners. His wife was also 7 months pregnant at the time. It went down like this:

Thursday Feb 16th 10:47am

Tim: So I had this crazy idea. Im not sure if this is the right time for you though with the baby on the way. What if we had a marathon challenge and run in the January ½ marathon. Ive never run one before. Maybe this would be a way to get myself into shape.

Barry: Hmmm& Interesting. You calling me fat? I could use the motivation too- I ran that 5K back in September but barely lifted my feet since then.

And with those simple texts, our Nemesis Challenge was born. PTR is HERE (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2885526)

Not only was this 1/2 marathon a running first, but this was the first time my DW & I have been to Disney without our kids. I guess I should tell you who we are..

I'm Tim and that beautiful woman standing with me is Melody..

Not only was this the weekend of our marathon challenge, but a group of guys here on the DIS, the SELF PROCLAIMED DISDads, were having their convention in WDW during this weekend. I'm sure you'll see them pop in here from time to time. Let me apologize to you all ahead of time. :lmao:

This is a 4 day TR about running, friends- new and old, and an adults only trip to WDW!

Short Backstory

It was back in 2010 when Barry & I declared ourselves nemesis. Or is it nemesis's, or is it nemesi? Well whatever it is it was declared. We've met each other in Disney 3 times before this trip, not because we planned it like that, it just happened that way. So after the challenge was on the table and accepted, we both spent close to a year training and preparing for this run. We both ran some 5ks and 10ks to get ready.

I had a few setbacks which barred me for running for months at a time. My last injury occurred in December. I was able to get in to see my orthopedic doctor and he strongly recommended that I did not run in the marathon. There was a possibility I could fracture one or both of my legs. I listened and stopped running. I tried one day tp ride the bike at the gym but it hurt after. I stopped all training to rest my legs, but there was NO WAY I wasn't going to try to run in the 1/2.

Friday 1/11

The alarm went off and Melody & I slowly rolled out of bed. We threw the last few items in our carryon and were out the door . My mom was taking the first shift watching our kids- Juliana (6) and Christopher (17m). We were running a little late but when we arrived at the airport there was not 1 person in line at the Southwest check in. Not 1. It was unbelievable. Every time we fly with the kids the place is a zoo. Figures. Security? Though that in 5 minutes. It might of taken 10 minutes to get from the door of the airport through security total but it was probably less.

On the way to the gate I had to play with the umbrellas since Juliana wasn't there.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06615.jpg

Stopped at Dunkin Donuts and waited to board the plane.

We were flying Southwest and had a B 40-something boarding position. They started lining people up. Melody and I were standing near the counter discussing if we would end up sitting next to each other when an agent called us over. She gave Melody a pass to be the first group on the plane... even before the A's!

Check it out, an empty plane!

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06616.jpg

I tried to fall asleep on the plane but the captain kept buzzing in and waking me up. The flight was good. I think we just passed the DelMarVa when Melody grabbed my hand and put it on her belly. I felt our daughter kick for the first time. It was so amazing! (She is pregnant for the wise guys)

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06617.jpg

I tried to go back to sleep but no luck. (I'll probably lose my man card for this) I leaned over and started reading what Melody was reading on her iPad. 50 Shades of Gray. LOL I think we read that for a little over an hour when it was time to land. (Just when it was starting to get good.LOL)

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06618.jpg

The doors to the plane opened and we felt a rush of warm humid air. It felt really good. A short ride on the fake monorail...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06620.jpg

We were barely off the plane and we were already stopping at the Disney store.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06622.jpg

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06623.jpg

..waited in line for 5 minutes- which seemed like 2 hours.. and boarded this.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06624.jpg

It wasn't long before we saw this beautiful sight!

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06626.jpg

We had to stop at POR then it was on to our home for the next few days- OKW!

We checked in but our room wasn't ready. No biggie. We weren't planning on hanging out at the resort anyway. We did love the balloons and knew the kids would of loved them if they were with us.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06629.jpg

While we were checking in, a CM next to us was from our hometown. The CM & Melody started chatting. Come to find out Melody went to high school with her niece. Small World. We were all set and they were going to text me when the room was ready.

We didn't even look around the resort. We walked out and hopped on a bus heading over to the WWoS. I had to pick up my race packet.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06631.jpg

We got to WWoS just before 1pm and the place was an absolute zoo. I had to go into the HP field house to grab my bib and change my corral. While I was waiting for the corral change Barry walked in and was waving to me from the entrance. His kids just ran in the RunDisney kids races and did a great job!

The line moved quickly and I was presenting my 10K time to a very nice lady. She placed a sticker on my bib. I ended up in corral B. Sweet. Barry, who was in corral B, texted me and asked me what corral I was in. I told him I was placed in A. He didn't believe me so I broke down and told him B. He still didn't believe me. LOL

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06633.jpg

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06634.jpg

We were only in the HP building for 20 minutes, not too bad. But then I had to go get my shirt and goodie bag in a different building. The Josten's Center. The line was close to a 1/2 mile long. It is hard to tell but the line started when we walked out of the HP building...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06635.jpg

The Josten's building is where the expo was located. You can see the people to the left of the picture. We were so far away they look like ants!

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06636.jpg

The expo had all kinds of vendors from hair ties, to shoes, to plaques, to running clubs.. etc.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06637.jpg

There was a huge wall with every runners name on it. I had to find my name. There it is Tim blur..

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/nameblr.jpg

It was really neat.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06642.jpg

We grabbed my goodie bag and stopped to pick up some sleeves for my legs. I also bought some biofreeze for the legs. We were on our way out of the expo just past 2. Not too bad.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06643.jpg

We walked to a bus that was dropping off at the boardwalk and were going to take the backdoor into Epcot.

Me: It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Blur because that's what you look like when you run, right?:confused3
Yea.. something like that. ::yes::

How did you get all my quotes to say Andy's SN? :confused3 :rotfl::rotfl:

And you still haven't met one of your first and probably one of the best.
One of these days.... ::yes::

Yes she is beautiful. She's actually always beautiful, but more so when she is radiant with pregnancy.
Awwww thanks Kat.

Heaven help us.
It's all down hill from here.

There you go again, using your kids for your excuses.
Well, what's Mark's excuse?

Oh, I am not touching this one...I'm going to leave it to all of your DISdads!
Yea, this is bound to be good.

How did you like the ME? We really enjoy it and saving on the car rental until the end of our trip when we drive to Marco.
We liked it a lot. It was easy and quick. I just didn't like the feeling of being tied to Disney transportation. Luckily, it was only for a few days.

You'll have to stay there on a future trip. With your growing family, renting a one-bedroom villa is probably a very good idea for the future.
I liked it a lot and would stay there again. :goodvibes

Wow...all those people were running? Incredible.
Something like 25,000 for the half and 18,000 for the full!!!!! :scared1:

It would have been better if it had said timmy
Ummmm NO!

Sounds like this will be very, very interesting.
Of course it will be! :lmao:

Loved using that back entrance to Epcot and a big reason we chose BWV for our December trip this year.
Oh yea. It was really easy to use that. That was the first time we did that.

that's nice
01-18-2013, 10:19 PM
It's not so bad, honest.
I second this statement. Just don't be hurt or sick during the run and you'll be fine. ;)

Here, have some lima beans. :rotfl:
:crazy2: I think I'd rather drink Beverly.

Wow you got to go to Disney??? I have to hear about this trip.
Yea, there are like 3 hours you don't already know about. :lmao:

Bookmakring Now... catching up later.
:welcome: Brian! Hope to see you back here. :sail:

I'm in. Great start! :thumbsup2
:welcome: Paul! Now you can see where I screwed up the run. :lmao:

Short Backstory

Short? Come on, what kind of nemesisisisis are you? Backstories need to elaborate! About how your parents didn't care enough about you to even show up to your birth!

IWe've met each other in Disney 3 times before this trip, not because we planned it like that, it just happened that way.
Maybe you didn't plan it that way....:rolleyes1

So after the challenge was on the table and accepted, we both spent close to a year training and preparing for this run. We both ran some 5ks and 10ks to get ready.
I also did an 8k and a 15k. Just wanted to make sure the story was accurate.

It was unbelievable. Every time we fly with the kids the place is a zoo. Figures. Security? Though that in 5 minutes. It might of taken 10 minutes to get from the door of the airport through security total but it was probably less.

Yet if you had brought the kids to the exact same flight, you'd still be waiting in the security line.

I can do that trick. Just give me can of Hormel Chili and half a dozen deviled eggs. I can get something inside me kicking real good.

I'm sending you a whip for Christmas.

We got to WWoS just before 1pm and the place was an absolute zoo. I had to go into the HP field house to grab my bib and change my corral. While I was waiting for the corral change Barry walked in and was waving to me from the entrance. His kids just ran in the RunDisney kids races and did a great job!

That was the only safe place to be. It was a madhouse down there! (OH, and when I do start my TR, there will be a full description of the kids races, with pictures. Consider that a pre-shameless plug)

He didn't believe me
I believe my words were a bit stronger than that. And not printable on this forum.:rotfl2:

There was a huge wall with every runners name on it. I had to find my name. There it is Tim blur..

I thought that's what was on that wall, but never stopped to look. I wish I had more time to wander the Expo, it was a madhouse and I wanted to get back to meet the family at MK. Next time for sure. :thumbsup2

Don't forget, Barry's wife has pointed out that you guys are the worst nemesississes ever.:thumbsup2

Just about every time I call him my nemesis...

This was when my leg fell off.

It grew back.

Me: But I can say the data on Barry is inaccurate.
CM: How's that Tim?
Me: Well, I just happened to see a Barry do a...
Melody: We!
Me: Uh, sorry, Mel. *We* happened to see Barry do a 4g negative dive.
CM: Where did you see this?
Me: Uh, that's classified.
CM: It's what?
Me: It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

I've modified the van of doom since then. I can do a 4.5g negative dive. :rolleyes1

Short Backstory

It was back in 2010 when Barry & I declared ourselves nemesis.

So, are you calling Barry short here or implying that he’s got too much “back”story?

So after the challenge was on the table and accepted, we both spent close to a year training and preparing for this run. We both ran some 5ks and 10ks to get ready.

That is a lot of work y’all did.
Impressive to say the least.

And to listen to so many of the other fell’as…
Inspiring.

It ain’t inspiring me, mind you, but I’m still impressed by all the work.

I had a few setbacks which barred me for running for months at a time. My last injury occurred in December.

And that’s one of the reasons why.

My mom was taking the first shift watching our kids- Juliana (6) and Christopher (17m).

Bless her.
Not an option I ever had.

On the way to the gate I had to play with the umbrellas since Juliana wasn't there.

Well… someone had to do it.
It just couldn’t go undone now could it?

Melody and I were standing near the counter discussing if we would end up sitting next to each other when an agent called us over. She gave Melody a pass to be the first group on the plane... even before the A's!

Check it out, an empty plane!

Cool! Sometimes you win.
Kind of them to do that for her.
Lucky for you she allowed you to tag along.

The flight was good. I think we just passed the DelMarVa when Melody grabbed my hand and put it on her belly. I felt our daughter kick for the first time. It was so amazing!

Another of those parenting milestones.
Oh and congrats on the pending increase to the family.

I tried to go back to sleep but no luck. (I'll probably lose my man card for this) I leaned over and started reading what Melody was reading on her iPad. 50 Shades of Gray.

Hummmm…
We may have to call for a vote on that one.

We had to stop at POR then it was on to our home for the next few days- OKW!

Nice…
You did make a point to steer clear of the section of the resort where part of the DDCC was generally creating havoc? Wouldn’t want to get caught up in any kind of dragnet ya’ know.

I ended up in corral B. Sweet. Barry, who was in corral B, texted me and asked me what corral I was in. I told him I was placed in A. He didn't believe me so I broke down and told him B. He still didn't believe me. LOL

:lmao:
What kind of nemesis would?

I had to go get my shirt and goodie bag in a different building. The Josten's Center. The line was close to a 1/2 mile long. It is hard to tell but the line started when we walked out of the HP building...

That’s like being stuck in the standby line for TSM in late afternoon during Spring Break after all the FastPasses are gone and with an entire Brazilian tour group ahead of you!

Did you at least get to shoot at something once you got to the front of the line?

There was a huge wall with every runners name on it. I had to find my name. There it is Tim blur..

My name’s Obfuscate.
I’m glad to meet you there Mr. Blur.

Up next... a meet and the pre-race meal

Sure do wish I could have been part of the whole convention, but I’ll have to settle for following a few good TRs.

Looking forward to tagging along if you’ll have me.

Why don't you get writing your version of the story? :confused3

Yet if you had brought the kids to the exact same flight, you'd still be waiting in the security line.
::yes::

I can do that trick. Just give me can of Hormel Chili and half a dozen deviled eggs. I can get something inside me kicking real good.

I'm sending you a whip for Christmas.
No thanks.. I already have one. Do I need to remind you?

That was the only safe place to be. It was a madhouse down there! (OH, and when I do start my TR, there will be a full description of the kids races, with pictures. Consider that a pre-shameless plug)
See, I knew you'd write one.

Yes. Yes, they were. But I'm keeping it 'G' rated... for the kiddies.

I missed 2 isles of vendors. I was trying to find what I needed and get out. Maybe if I can in on Thursday morning instead of Friday, it wouldn't of been so crazy.

Thanks. We tried to get a few more people to hop on board but they refused.

And to listen to so many of the other fell’as…
Inspiring.

It ain’t inspiring me, mind you, but I’m still impressed by all the work.
:rotfl2:

And that’s one of the reasons why.
It wasn't that bad but just when the running was easy and getting *GULP* fun, then I was sidelined for weeks at a time. The pain wasn't the crappy part, not being able to run was.

Bless her.
Not an option I ever had.
Sorry to hear this Rob. :grouphug:

Well… someone had to do it.
It just couldn’t go undone now could it?

We we walking out of the Expo and trying to figure out how to get to Epcot. I heard there wasn't a direct bus, so we hopped on the Boardwalk bus. Little did we know it stopped at the Swan/Dolphin, Yacht & Beach clubs, then the Boardwalk. When we arrived at the Swan (or was it the Dolphin?) we got off and decided to take a walk on the Boardwalk to the back entrance to Epcot. Unfortunately, we didn't pass GO, nor did we collect our $200.

It was our first time just strolling on the Boardwalk. We always try to get there on our trips but it just never happens. We went through the gates and stopped for a quick picture...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06646.jpg

We headed over to Rose & Crown to meet up with some of the aforementioned DISDads. As I got closer to R&C, I can hear the girly voice of Randall yelling, 'Team Barry Rules!' I quickly considered just to continue walking past Rose & Crown, but there were a few other guys with him... including some of the Team Tim members.

We sat down and had a drink with Randall and his wife, Carl, Paul, and Scott... oh, I can't forget the penguins.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06647.jpg

We had some good conversation about running, Barry (were your ears ringing?), and Disney in general.

So it was time for payback. First we tossed Randall to the ground, draped a Team Barry shirt over him, then went Team Tim style on him! (No penguins were hurt during this stomping)

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06650.jpg

We didn't hurt him too bad... but we this did stop him from yelling Team Barry every 5 minutes.

We finished up our drinks and picked up Randall off the ground and started to take a leisurely stroll around the World Showcase... We only walked about 20 feet before Randall was up to his antics, having CMs pose with his penguins.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06653.jpg

We walked around the WS and stopped for another drink.. in Morocco.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06655.jpg

As much as I wanted to continue, putting back a few more cold ones, I had to keep telling myself that wasn't a good idea. I had to run in the morning. Paul assured me it was ok, he was the 'real' runner of the group. He was running the full on Sunday. I resisted the temptation as I watched Randall ask the belly dancer to hold his penguins and pose for a picture. The guy was out of control.. LOL

Melody & I said by to the guys, and continued walking around the WS. It felt really weird being there without Juliana. The sun was starting to set...

Melody and I just wandered around with no agenda. It felt kinda good but odd. We usually head to the park with some kind of plan. It was almost 6:15 and we had an ADR at Via Napoli with a few other guys... Barry and his family, and CJ and his daughter Andriana AKA Crash, Bambi's parents (Barry's wife) as well as another family friend of Barry's.

We were seated pretty quickly and ended up at two tables next to each other. Melody & I sat with CJ & Crash, Barry, Barry's friend and his son. We had a nice dinner discussing running, food, Disney, and ummm vasectomies. I hope we didn't scar Crash for life with this conversation. It took a few minutes to order but once we did the food came in a matter of minutes. Melody had the eggplant parmigiana, I had chicken parmigiana with a side of pasta, Barry had pasta & meatballs, Crash had Lasagna Verde (i think) and CJ had mozzarella & tomato salad and soup(?).

After eating pizza here in Nov, I had high expectations for my meal and I was a little disappointed. Melody was too. We aren't food snobs, but living in CT where there is a higher concentration of Italians than Italy itself, we thought the sauce was lacking and the quality just wasn't there. Barry, didn't seem to have a problem eating his pasta and CJ did like his salad. There was a consensus on our side of the table anyway, that we should of just ordered pizza. I didn't get any pictures of our meal but after we did stick around and talk outside for 10-15 minutes. I HAD to find out if Bambi hated me for challenging her husband but she seemed cool with it. How could she be mad? I mean I just forced them to take another Disney trip!

Before departing for the evening, A quick picture of Barry, CJ, & I.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06663.jpg

It was around 8:20 when we left dinner and it was back to strolling the WS for Melody & I.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06665.jpg

Hey I found a hat I liked...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06667.jpg

Melody was ready to plunder and pillage....

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06660.jpg

We went into Mexico and rode the Three Caballeros, and then found a spot to watch Illuminations. Melody has never seen Illuminations in it's entirety, and being there without kids, tonight was the perfect night to do that. We found a spot behind a few people but still had a good view of the water.

I don't know how you feel, but Illuminations doesn't do that much for me. I think now that Melody has seen it too, she feels the same way. We started walking toward the exit and stopped for one more picture.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06693.jpg

We didn't wait too long for a bus but when it got there it was pretty packed. Once we were back to OKW, instead of getting off at the first stop, we rode the bus till we got to the Hospitality House. That was a bad move. We should of got off at stop #1 and walked but we didn't know the internal bus system yet. We had to stop at the Hospitality House because we were never given our room number at check-in, we only knew what building we were in. After finding out, we asked Bell services to give us a ride to our room. A really nice guy, I think his name was Bill, drove us to the room, telling us all about the resort. He also came to the room to make sure our key worked and our luggage was there.

We unpacked a bit, and I looked at the clock. 10:55. UGH I was meeting Barry outside the room at 3:10am to get to the 1/2. After getting situated and showering, I think it was about 11:30 before I finally laid down. I really hope I could sleep... and not sleep through my alarm.

Up next... RACE DAY!!!

Oh, I am not touching this one...I'm going to leave it to all of your DISdads! :rotfl2:
Yea, this is bound to be good.
Normally I might jump all over this, but based on what I've heard about 50 SoG it isn't a bad thing for you and Mel to be "on the same page" if you know what I mean........... ;)

I'm sending you a whip for Christmas.
No thanks.. I already have one. Do I need to remind you?
Oh, I can see Kathy jumping all over THIS one!!! :lmao:

Well, money shot out of my wallet. :crazy2:
Don't think I'm touching this one either........... :rolleyes1

::yes:: And we had to shut it off right when Christian was flying Ana to his house in Portland. :duck: Hey wait! I thought you left the kiddos with your Mom??? :confused3 Who is this Christian you are letting your little Princess run around the country with???

POLL: Did Melody & I ride IASW without kids? Now who in their right mind would ride IASW without kids along??? Well, unless it is Mark while everyone else is off riding ToT...........

We liked the resort a lot. I wish I was back there now.
Yes, but wouldn't you say that about the "All Stars," Pop, CSR, or any other Disney resort??? :goodvibes

I guess I should't tell you that I read the next 2 chapters when we got home because I had to see what happened. :scratchin :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2:

(and if you were ever thinking of reading it, you should start where I did when I got home.. .it's like skipping all the... ummm never mind :rolleyes1 )

Unfortunately, we didn't pass GO, nor did we collect our $200.
Oh well. It's not like $200 would buy much in Disney World anyway. :rolleyes1

As I got closer to R&C, I can hear the girly voice of Randall yelling, 'Team Barry Rules!' I quickly considered just to continue walking past Rose & Crown, but there were a few other guys with him... including some of the Team Tim members.
What kind of representatives of Team Tim are they if they're sitting there letting Randall run his mouth???? :confused3

We didn't hurt him too bad... but we this did stop him from yelling Team Barry every 5 minutes.
So it was every 10 minutes instead then??? :confused3

I resisted the temptation as I watched Randall ask the belly dancer to hold his penguins and pose for a picture. The guy was out of control.. LOL
I guess he had to settle for the belly dancer since he couldn't get Jasmine! :lmao:

Melody & I sat with CJ & Crash, Barry, Barry's friend and his son. We had a nice dinner discussing running, food, Disney, and ummm vasectomies. I hope we didn't scar Crash for life with this conversation.
Poor Crash... :sad2:

I don't know how you feel, but Illuminations doesn't do that much for me. I think now that Melody has seen it too, she feels the same way.
I'm kind of on the fence about it. I always enjoy seeing it, but I don't think near as highly of it as Wishes and Fantasmic. The storyline to it is interesting and the massive explosions at the end that shake you to your core are pretty awesome, but the globe thing that you can't see very well all the way in middle of the lake anyway kind of loses me.

I thought the travelers umbrellas looked familiar and then I realized I've read some of your other TRs, and we fly out of the same airport! :lmao:

Tim! I just realized I forgot to tell you that I finally can say I've been to CT! Back at the end of October aka Hurricane Sandy time, I was in xoktenox's wedding on Long Island. We were stranded for a week. La Guardia was still under water, so we drove to CT, spent the night, and flew out of Bradley airport the next morning.

:welcome: The 1/2 was really a fun race.

Sure you say that now. I sure was not saying it around mile 8. :rotfl:

There are a few people here who ran the full... I'm sure they will tell you that the heat was no fun. :beach:

Watching them in DHS -NO FUN.

:welcome:
Hey Pat! How you feeling?

All better - letting the hot tub jets pound the lactic acid out of my legs really did the trick. Wish I had thought of it on Sunday instead of Monday but I might not have been able to stand it Sunday.

I know. It's like they know when you are bringing them. :faint:

And the TSA line goes extra slow when you are running late AND you get the gate at the END of the terminal.... :rotfl2:

Maybe I will have to shoot to be there on Thursday if there is a next time.

The wall was in the Josten's center once you walked down the left staircase.

What day did you arrive? Wed?

Arrived Thursday about 2pm. Funniest thing was I got a text around 1:30 from OKW that my room was ready.

Some people are reporting they never get a text and I usually get one but never before I even get on property. :lmao:

There was a crowd by the wall and I glanced but did not realized ALL the runners names were on there. I just wanted to get out of that crowded area.

The rest of Expo was busy but not wall to wall. As soon as check in was done that was the next stop. :thumbsup2

My husband and I saw Illuminations back in August without our daughter and we weren't wowed by it. We love Wishes instead! Subbing to this TR. My hubby and I are going to start running and we want to do the 1/2 marathon one day at DW.

I don't get emotional over any of the fireworks shows at Disney, I like the show, but yeah, it doesn't give me the chills that some other things do.

They represented Team Tim well. :hippie:

It would be cool if you could sit on the globe as is mysteriously floats around the lagoon... as long as you could get off of it before it opens up at the end.

Wow... who needs rest before running 13 miles??
Obviously not I. :rotfl2:

We sat down and had a drink with Randall and his wife, Carl, Paul, and Scott... oh, I can't forget the penguins.

We had some good conversation about running, Barry (were your ears ringing?), and Disney in general.

One of Randall's penguins was acting up so Carl quickly put him in his place.

You guys are having WAY too much fun here. What a great meet and fun afternoon. Fun to see a guys trip. The penguins are cracking me up. I don't run but that whole o-dark thirty wake up/start thing would stress me out beyond belief. I have a hard time with a regular work out before 10 am :rotfl:

Nice willpower on the stopping on the cold ones and strolling. That would not have been fun at 3:30am! Sucks to be responsible sometimes, especially on a beautiful day with friends.

When we arrived at the Swan (or was it the Dolphin?) we got off and decided to take a walk on the Boardwalk to the back entrance to Epcot. Unfortunately, we didn't pass GO, nor did we collect our $200.

Disney giving you money? That'll be the day!

We sat down and had a drink with Randall and his wife, Carl, Paul, and Scott... oh, I can't forget the penguins.

Now this group looks like trouble!

So it was time for payback. First we tossed Randall to the ground, draped a Team Barry shirt over him, then went Team Tim style on him! (No penguins were hurt during this stomping)

At least the Team Barry shirt wasn't illegal. :rolleyes1

As much as I wanted to continue, putting back a few more cold ones, I had to keep telling myself that wasn't a good idea. I had to run in the morning. Paul assured me it was ok, he was the 'real' runner of the group. He was running the full on Sunday.

Ever see Band of Brothers? This reminds me of the part where the drill sergeant feeds everyone a nice big spaghetti dinner and then forces them to go on a 10-mile run.https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HEIPJNsQgoo/UNDY6K172qI/AAAAAAAAFTo/BXeiOmTc9l0/s66/puke.gif

:sad2: Why not discuss 50 Shades of Grey with her, too?:confused3

After eating pizza here in Nov, I had high expectations for my meal and I was a little disappointed. Melody was too.

And you make fun of me for sticking with known quantities. That'll learn ya. Does Via Napoli have a burger?:confused3:rotfl2:

I HAD to find out if Bambi hated me for challenging her husband but she seemed cool with it. How could she be mad? I mean I just forced them to take another Disney trip!

Makes sense to me!:thumbsup2

I don't know how you feel, but Illuminations doesn't do that much for me. I think now that Melody has seen it too, she feels the same way.

I agree it's too much time spent on the murky spinning globe. But the pyrotechnics make up for a lot.

We we walking out of the Expo and trying to figure out how to get to Epcot. I heard there wasn't a direct bus, so we hopped on the Boardwalk bus. Little did we know it stopped at the Swan/Dolphin, Yacht & Beach clubs, then the Boardwalk.

I learned that lesson the hard. The busses in and around that area of the park can be challenging if you’re pushed for time.

When we arrived at the Swan (or was it the Dolphin?) we got off and decided to take a walk on the Boardwalk to the back entrance to Epcot.

Probably a better choice

Unfortunately, we didn't pass GO, nor did we collect our $200.

They don’t take that kind of money in trade for Dole Whips anyway.
No real loss there.

Well…
So long as the penguins were spared.

:rolleyes1: :lmao:

We walked around the WS and stopped for another drink.. in Morocco.

Ummm…
Y’all are racing tomorrow aren’t ya’?

I had to keep telling myself that wasn't a good idea. I had to run in the morning.

That’s what I thought.

Paul assured me it was ok, he was the 'real' runner of the group. He was running the full on Sunday.

That’s two days of recovery for him.
Not so sure he’s got Team Tim’s best interests in mind here.
What team did you say he was on?
:rotfl:

I resisted the temptation as I watched Randall ask the belly dancer to hold his penguins and pose for a picture. The guy was out of control.. LOL

Out of control?

That implies that Randall was even in control.
I got’s me doubts ‘bout that one.

Melody & I said by to the guys, and continued walking around the WS. It felt really weird being there without Juliana.

Enjoy it…
I haven’t been down there with out the boy since long before we was born. Being as he’d headed off to college this fall, it may just be time again to take my bride back down there for some couple’s time.

Melody and I just wandered around with no agenda.

Sounds good to me.
Looking forward to such a day

It felt kinda good but odd. We usually head to the park with some kind of plan. It was almost 6:15 and we had an ADR at Via Napoli with a few other guys... Barry and his family, and CJ and his daughter Andriana AKA Crash, Bambi's parents (Barry's wife) as well as another family friend of Barry's.

Headin’ into enemy territory ehhh?

We had a nice dinner discussing running, food…

Nice…

…Disney…

Always good…

…and ummm vasectomies.

Goo… Whoa, what? :crazy2:

I hope we didn't scar Crash for life with this conversation.

Ya’ scarred me just by mentioning it.
Glad I missed the dinner conversation.

After eating pizza here in Nov, I had high expectations for my meal and I was a little disappointed.

Have heard similar reviews.
The consensus seems to be: do go here, but stick to the pizza.

I’ve got a feeling you’ll pull that one off.
You may be worse for wear, but you’ll pull it off.

Great pictures from around the WS.
Looking forward to hearing about the 1/2 from an inside perspective.

When we arrived at the Swan (or was it the Dolphin?) we got off and decided to take a walk on the Boardwalk to the back entrance to Epcot.
They're pretty easy to tell apart. The Swan has huge statues of Swans on the roof. The Dolphin has huge statues of fish that look nothing like dolphins.

We headed over to Rose & Crown to meet up with some of the aforementioned DISDads. As I got closer to R&C, I can hear the girly voice of Randall yelling, 'Team Barry Rules!'
Ahhhhh...sweet music to my ears. :thumbsup2

We had some good conversation about running, Barry (were your ears ringing?), and Disney in general.
People are usually talking about me. I'm pretty used to it by now.

So it was time for payback. First we tossed Randall to the ground, draped a Team Barry shirt over him, then went Team Tim style on him! (No penguins were hurt during this stomping)

Careful Tim, Randall's running next year's half. He might get his own revenge..

We didn't hurt him too bad... but we this did stop him from yelling Team Barry every 5 minutes.
YOU MAY TAKE OUR LIVES, BUT YOU'LL NEVER TAKE....OUR FREEDOM!!

We walked around the WS and stopped for another drink.. in Morocco.

I'm sure your pregnant wife was having a good time watching you drink around the world...:stir:

Melody & I sat with CJ & Crash, Barry, Barry's friend and his son. We had a nice dinner discussing running, food, Disney, and ummm vasectomies. I hope we didn't scar Crash for life with this conversation.
What does she care, she never has to worry about one. :confused3

Agree. Pizza is definitely the way to got there. Being the night before the race I assumed the pasta would be a better idea. The veal meatballs were good, but $21 for about $3 worth of spaghetti isn't going to work in my book again.

I don't know how you feel, but Illuminations doesn't do that much for me.
It does get a bit dull in the middle, but the pyrotechnics at the end make up for it. The music rocks, too. (except for the dull spot in the middle.)

So I guess we're in agreement... They can scrap all the stuff except for the part at the beginning about stories around the fire, and then just go straight to the big explosions!

Unless of course they just want to make that middle part a little bit longer so that you have time to get another beer. :rotfl2:

Pretty sure I saw Tim around mile 8 or 9. Neither one of us were having a lot of fun at that point.

It was around 8:20 when we left dinner and it was back to strolling the WS for Melody & I.

You could have come with us to dinner at LeCellier. ut no you had to eat with team Barry

It was fun meeting all these DISers. I'm sure people were staring at us thinking we were out of our minds. :rotfl:

Nice willpower on the stopping on the cold ones and strolling. That would not have been fun at 3:30am! Sucks to be responsible sometimes, especially on a beautiful day with friends.
::yes::

It was hard.. just got to Florida in 80 degree weather, first day of vaca without the kids, peer pressure, ya know? :lmao:

Disney giving you money? That'll be the day!
Money no. But they did give me an AP magnet. :thumbsup2

:sad2: Why not discuss 50 Shades of Grey with her, too?:confused3
Now that would of been really weird!

And you make fun of me for sticking with known quantities. That'll learn ya. Does Via Napoli have a burger?
:rotfl:

Pizza. Only eat the pizza!

I agree it's too much time spent on the murky spinning globe. But the pyrotechnics make up for a lot.
I'd really like the show if they blew up the globe at the end. Now that would be A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!

subbing... can't wait to read more of your trip.
We arrived on Thursday, went to WWoS for my packet for 5k (not ready for 1/2 yet), and the crowd was light.

We went back Friday with my DIL, DS, and grand kids to pick up DIL packet for 1/2 and kids for Saturday races. It was very crowded. It took a long time when we left in the Disney bus to get back to POP.

Then we went back Saturday for the kids' races. Less people, except for the kids races.

What a motley looking group. Although the guy with the beard looks like he could drink all of you under the table.

I think we sat and talked for close to an hour. Then it was time to get Randall back for beating me up in November... In case you missed it- first he put me in a head lock..

We didn't hurt him too bad... but we this did stop him from yelling Team Barry every 5 minutes.

Notice that Randall could take you all by himself but it took a pack to take him down.

It was minestrone. It was OK, not great. The mozzarella was good quality but no balsamic on the salad. Crash liked her lasagna but the portion was small. Expectations were high and they didn't meet them but overall it was a good meal.

As to our conversation, she isn't scarred for life. I threatened worse things to the kid that dared asked her to the prom last year.

Before departing for the evening, A quick picture of Barry, CJ, & I.

It was 3:05am and Melody was shaking me telling me I had to get up. I hopped up and was wondering why the alarm on my cell phone didn't go off. I went over and picked it up and saw it was only 2:50am. The clock in the room was 15 minutes fast. Whew!

I had all my clothes laid out and it didn't take me long to get out of the room to meet Barry at 3:10. Didn't I tell you his room was in a building right across from ours? I'm not sure if this was planned (it wasn't on my part) but it worked out good. I opened the door and noticed right away how warm and humid it was. When I walked down the stairs, he was already out there.. I guess he was anxious. We walked over to the bus stop and took the shuttle to the Hospitality House. There were about 10 people waiting for the shuttle to Epcot. Barry texted Chris (another DISDad who was running) and he was just getting out of his room.. as this was going on a bus pulled up. We opted to wait for the next bus so we could ride over with Chris. As we were waiting more and more people were walking over waiting for the shuttle to Epcot. Chris arrived right at 3:30 with his cousin, and we were just chatting waiting. And waiting. And waiting. When the bus finally showed up there had to be at least 200 people in line, if you could call it that, waiting for a bus.

Finally, a bus showed up and it didn't look like we were going to make it. Luckily, a second bus pulled up and we were the first ones on. As the bus pulled out of OKW, we realized that the starting corrals were right behind where our building were. We could of just walked from our buildings, across the road, and been at the starting line. Disney, discourages people walking to the starting line, but if (when) we run next year, we are walking!

A normal 7 minute ride to Epcot took close to 20 minutes due to the road closings. We did have a good bus driver who knew how to drive.. AKA taking a few shortcuts and cutting people off. There was so much traffic. I would suggest to anyone planning on driving to any marathon, to leave early. We were dropped off in the Epcot parking lot and began our walk to the staging area. We had a meet planned before walking through the bag check with some other Dads who were running. There were so many people and it was already after 4am, that we decided to keep moving. We dropped off our bags at the baggage check and started walking with the sea of humanity, towards the starting line. I don't have the exact time we started walking but it was about 4:30am.

The walk was slow. I mean slow. There were thousands of people trying to walk on narrow service roads towards the start. In some places there were 30-40 port-o-pottys lines up with lines 10 people deep waiting to get in them. There were guys, and girls, doing their 'business' in the brush on the sides of the road. It was insanity. I've never seen anything like it. The walk was painfully slow.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/22004_2650927008841_1438594602_n.jpg

Don't we look excited?

We were getting closer to the corrals and it was suggested that we use the bathroom. We only had to wait for 4 or so people to get to the bathroom. While waiting in line, word was spreading that none of the bathrooms had toilet paper. Good thing I was just going '#1'. I felt bad for all the ladies but what cha gonna do?

We finally got to the main road where the corrals were. A, B, & C to the left and D, E, F, G to the right. Naturally, we went to the left and came up to our corral. Our bibs were checked to make sure we were in the right place. Once in the corral, I realized why they call it a corral. You do feel like a herd of cattle. There was no room to stretch or breathe. We had got there just in time. Time was 5:30 and they were singing the national anthem. It literally took us 1 hour to walk from the bag drop off to the corral. INSANE!

There were huge TVs to see the talking from the starting line. They started counting down the first wave.. the wheelchair athletes. 3, 2, 1 BOOM! Fireworks started shooting off! It was awesome! Each corral was slated to start in 10 minute intervals. Corral A was lined up and ready to go. They counted it down again... 3, 2, 1.... BOOM!!!

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/543446_587746547917978_1612152792_n.jpg

There were fireworks going off in front of us and behind us too. The anticipation was building and I was sweating. I was nervous, anxious, excited, scared all rolled together. Our corral started moving forward towards the starting line. It was almost our time.... 3, 2, 1 BOOOMM!!! More fireworks! Barry and I walked toward the starting line.

It was 3:05am and Melody was shaking me telling me I had to get up. I hopped up and was wondering why the alarm on my cell phone didn't go off. I went over and picked it up and saw it was only 2:50am. The clock in the room was 15 minutes fast. Whew!
Ok, having read this, I just have one question... What the beverly was Melody doing up at 3:05 am??????

I have heard how crazy the races can be. You would think Disney would have this down to an art by now.
I think it was just the sheer number of people who where running in this race. Over 25,000 runners for the 1/2. Thinking back, it was impressive how they got all these people where they needed to be.

The moment had arrived. We walked up to the starting line...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/227663_2650927328849_1542884451_n.jpg

We put one foot in front of the other and started running. I have to admit, it was nice being placed in the correct corral. Surprisingly, there wasn't much dodging of people at the beginning and the flow of the runners was good. One thing though- it was HOT! I normally don't break a sweat till at least a mile and a half. I had sweat pouring down my face by the .5 mile point.

We hit the first mile and it felt good to be running. After all the months of training, not running for almost 4 weeks before the marathon was hard. My legs felt good too. There wasn't any pain. I told Barry I wanted to run to the castle, at least. I didn't know when the leg pain would start or when I would lose my stamina. We saw a few characters at the beginning but about mile 2 on World Drive we saw Jack Sparrow & Barbosa with the Black Pearl- the same one they use in the parade. It looked really cool. We thought about stopping but the line was probably 20 people deep. We didn't want to stop that early. We kept running.

We did stop for a quick picture before passing the MK toll gates.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/69599_2650927608856_260203836_n.jpg

Our 5K split.
Tim 34:35
Barry 34:36

It was shortly after this when I had to take a pit stop in the bushes.... :rolleyes1

We kept running passing the Speedway, through the MK parking lot, and back to the road. There were many volunteers and spectators cheering us on and holding signs... some which made me laugh out loud. It was around here where I saw someone running barefoot. Ummm no thanks.

We ran under the water bridge and could see the Contemporary in the distance. I think this is where I started really noticing the pain in my left leg. I could really feel the burn running up that little incline under the bridge. Even though the road narrowed to 1 lane, there was still plenty of room to run and you weren't on top of anybody. I know Barry and I had a few conversations while running, but I can't recall what they were. LOL

We past the Contemporary and took a sharp left and headed towards MK. We got closer and ran onto a back road and entrance to Main St. When we ran through the doors we could see thousands of people lining Main St. and cheering on the runners. It was still dark. We came around the corner and saw the castle all lit up with the icicle lights on. It was surreal.

This is what the castle looked like that morning.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/538483_587746387917994_50887335_n.jpg

As we were running up Main St. I was scanning the crowd looking for Bambi, Barry's wife and kids. We were in the hub and took a right over the bridge into Tomorrowland. We ran past the Speedway, up past the TeaCups, past Pooh, & past Cinderella's Carousel.

We ran up to and through the castle. The sky was just starting to brighten. At the opening on the other side, we were looking down Main St. towards the train station. We could see thousands of people cheering and runners still running up Main St. As we ran down the right side of the castle, we saw Bambi, her parents, and the kids cheering us, well mostly Barry. We stopped for a quick picture.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/408605_2650924008766_1170516737_n.jpg

Madison, Barry's daughter, mentioned that if I couldn't make it she would carry me to the finish line. I asked her if she was ready to carry me... She laughed and said no. I'm not sure if she was tired or just scared of how I looked all sweaty and stuff.

We also got in a short line for the official marathon photo in front of the castle, which you can purchase for $35. After the pic we waved bye to his family and continued running. We ran out of a side door near Adventureland. We were running on a service road behind all the rides. It is weird seeing Disney from this view. It looks likes an industrial park or something.

10K split
Tim 1:11:14
Barry 1:11:16

It was around the 10K split where my leg was killing me. We stopped for a minute and I slapped a handful of biofreeze on my leg. I was losing stamina too. We walked for a minute then kept going. We ran out of MK running over the train tracks. They had one of the steam trains there with a conductor blasting the horn. That was cool. Barry and I continued running till about the 7 mile mark. That was it. The pain and the legs were done. Barry and I had a heart to heart. It went something like this:

Tim: Now... go, my son. Leave me.
Barry: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you.
Tim: You already... have, Barry. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.

Well, it didn't go exactly like that. It was more like:

Tim: I'm done. My leg is done. Go do your thing, I'll see you later.
Barry: OK. Later Sucker!

(or something like that)

I started walking and I watched Barry run off into the distance. For a moment I felt like I failed. I should of been able to keep up with him but my leg would not allow it. I walked for 4-5 minutes then I started jogging again. I was listening to music so I ran for a song, then walked a song. I was trying to keep myself moving. There was no way I wasn't going to finish.

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good. He was having some stomach issues and wasn't feeling well. We walked together for a while. Both of us were hurting but we were fighting through it together. We did some walk/jog intervals. Melody texted me a few times telling me she was at Epcot and would be looking for me.

15K Split
Tim: 1:50:26
Barry 1:46:55

I wasn't that far behind Barry, although I had no idea where he was. We made it to the exit ramp from World Drive getting onto Epcot Center Drive. It was a steady incline. The army soldiers from toy story were there shouting words of encouragement to everyone. I did hear him say this was the last incline... which we found out wasn't totally true. There were a few more towards the finish. I could see Epcot in the distance. The road was a little hilly and there were a few more bridges to go over. At the end of the last bridge, I stopped for a picture with Phineas and Ferb.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/PFJpeg.jpg

We were in the Epcot parking lot- not much farther now.

The crowds were cheering and I was really close to Spaceship Earth. All of the sudden I saw Melody and she snapped a picture...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06695.jpg

She told me she saw Barry running by not that long ago...

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06694.jpg

I gave her a sweaty kiss and kept moving. Chris and I ran into Epcot past S.E. and towards the World Showcase. Once we hit the lake the route doubled back toward S.E. We ran out of a side door and saw the 13 mile marker. There also was a full gospel choir singing as we past this point. That was really cool. We came around another corner and there it was- the FINISH LINE!!!!

Chris and I continued running under this:

Finish
Tim: 2:42:18

I was 10 minutes behind Barry. He took round 1 of the nemesis challenge.

Wow, 10 min behind with that kind of pain? You really powered through (and I hope didn't do major damage in the process). Man those shirts are BRIGHT in the still dark castle picture. Holy cats!

Pain aside it actually sounds...like there was some fun in there too!

Cool update and great job to BOTH of you.

It was shortly after this when I had to take a pit stop in the bushes.... :rolleyes1
I knew it! :rotfl2::lmao:

It was around here where I saw someone running barefoot. Ummm no thanks.
I don't even see how you could run on asphalt and concrete with those "barefoot" shoes. :headache:

I know Barry and I had a few conversations while running, but I can't recall what they were. LOL
He talked about cheese, you talked about rap, neither understood what the other was saying... :rolleyes1

When we ran through the doors we could see thousands of people lining Main St. and cheering on the runners. It was still dark. We came around the corner and saw the castle all lit up with the icicle lights on. It was surreal.
Well that would give you a nice little adrenaline surge.

As we ran down the right side of the castle, we saw Bambi, her parents, and the kids cheering us, well mostly Barry. We stopped for a quick picture.
Were the kids holding their signs for you? :lmao::rotfl2:

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good. He was having some stomach issues and wasn't feeling well. We walked together for a while. Both of us were hurting but we were fighting through it together.
That was nice. Not that both of you were miserable, but at least that you had someone to suffer through it with.

She told me she saw Barry running by not that long ago...
Why didn't she trip him? :confused3

I was 10 minutes behind Barry. He took round 1 of the nemesis challenge.
So what's it going to be? Best 2 out of 3? Best 3 out of 5? Best 4 out of 7? Best 51 of 100? :confused3

I ended up in 11,782nd place out of 23,125 finishers.
Not bad for a nearly broken leg.

Wow, 10 min behind with that kind of pain?
I know... Barry should be disappointed by himself. He only beat an injured Tim by 10 minutes.:sad2: Round 2 is going to be all Tim. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Wow. You got someone to stop and take your picture? That guy sacrificed his chances at setting a personal best so you and Barry could have a photo. Truly magical. If only he received a public showing of gratitude...

Tim: Now... go, my son. Leave me.
Barry: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you.
Tim: You already... have, Barry. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.
Well done.:darth:

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good. He was having some stomach issues and wasn't feeling well. We walked together for a while. Both of us were hurting but we were fighting through it together. We did some walk/jog intervals.
I think I saw the same guy. He was looking pretty rough. Actually, that's how he normally looks.

It was shortly after this when I had to take a pit stop in the bushes.... :rolleyes1

Wait, that's not a bush, that's Eeyore! :scared1:

There were many volunteers and spectators cheering us on and holding signs... some which made me laugh out loud.

I had a friend who ran the Marine Corps Marathon in D.C. and he said the signs along the way were hilarious. I'm not sure I can repeat some of them here, though.

It was around here where I saw someone running barefoot. Ummm no thanks.

And here I thought it couldn't be more painful.

I know Barry and I had a few conversations while running, but I can't recall what they were. LOL

"Wow, Barry. (cough) This sucks."
"Yep. (gasp) Sure does."

It was still dark. We came around the corner and saw the castle all lit up with the icicle lights on. It was surreal.

This is what the castle looked like that morning.

Now that would definitely be inspiring.

We were in the hub and took a right over the bridge into Tomorrowland. We ran past the Speedway, up past the TeaCups, past Pooh, & past Cinderella's Carousel.

They didn't run you through the bakery?:confused3

Madison, Barry's daughter, mentioned that if I couldn't make it she would carry me to the finish line. I asked her if she was ready to carry me... She laughed and said no. I'm not sure if she was tired or just scared of how I looked all sweaty and stuff.

A little of column A, and a little of column B.

Barry and I had a heart to heart. It went something like this:

Tim: Now... go, my son. Leave me.
Barry: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you.
Tim: You already... have, Barry. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.

Well, it didn't go exactly like that. It was more like:

Tim: I'm done. My leg is done. Go do your thing, I'll see you later.
Barry: OK. Later Sucker!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

For a moment I felt like I failed. I should of been able to keep up with him but my leg would not allow it.

Injury is not failure.

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good. He was having some stomach issues and wasn't feeling well. We walked together for a while. Both of us were hurting but we were fighting through it together.

Well, I'm glad you had company. Not that you were both in misery, but it definitely helps to have someone there with you.

The army soldiers from toy story were there shouting words of encouragement to everyone. I did hear him say this was the last incline... which we found out wasn't totally true.

Green army men are liars. Got it.

We ran out of a side door and saw the 13 mile marker. There also was a full gospel choir singing as we past this point.

That sounds pretty awesome.

We came around another corner and there it was- the FINISH LINE!!!!

:cool1::woohoo::banana:

I was 10 minutes behind Barry. He took round 1 of the nemesis challenge.

But with an injury, that's an impressive finish. You did great, and finishing a race like that is quite an accomplishment. Nice work, Tim.:thumbsup2

I might have to do it again if the wife allows it.

Oh my word. I can't believe the volume of people, the hour and the time it took to get not very far at all. That's a long morning already and you just started the run!
It was insane. I'm glad we got there early enough to make it to the starting line.

Thank you. This reminds me that I do not want to try to do one of these. I occasionally have delusional moments that it might be sorta, kinda, fun. Nope. Not my idea of fun. Ever.

I have WAY too many threads to catch up on to multi-quote, but here are a few comments.

Love the pic of you and Mel on the bridge near France...very nice. :goodvibes

It looks like the DIS Dads had a good meet in World Showcase and, as usualy, the shenanigans were flowoing.

The fireworks as each group of runners took off were awesome.

Love the picture of the Castle as you went by it at the MK.

Whether you beat Barry or finished a little behind him, I am VERY proud of you for finishing the race, especially with the injuries you had while training. You both did awesome and I am proud to know both of you.

And, now that you did not beat Barry, you have an excuse to go back and do it again.

We put one foot in front of the other and started running.
Come on Tim! We want details! Which foot did you start off on? Left or Right?

I have to admit, it was nice being placed in the correct corral. Surprisingly, there wasn't much dodging of people at the beginning and the flow of the runners was good.
It probably helped that we were near the back of the corral. Let the masses fight among themselves up front while we stroll to the start line.

One thing though- it was HOT!
::yes::

It was cool that they were blasting the Pirates theme music. I think this is when I popped one ear bud out and listened to my ipod in one ear and the course music in the other.

It was shortly after this when I had to take a pit stop in the bushes.... :rolleyes1

It was right at mile 3. I got a nice picture of the sign while waiting for you.

It was around here where I saw someone running barefoot. Ummm no thanks.
It was also right around here where that guy in the long sleeve shirt, running tights, gloves and a knit hat passed us as we're wearing tshirts and shorts and just about sweating to death. :confused3

I know Barry and I had a few conversations while running, but I can't recall what they were. LOL
Knowing me, they were probably fart jokes.

I think I mentioned to you after we left Main Street, but I don't think I felt any pain while running that stretch. :thumbsup2

I know I have footage of this section of the race. As soon as I get it edited (and posted to my TR) I'll post it here, too.

As we ran down the right side of the castle, we saw Bambi, her parents, and the kids cheering us, well mostly Barry. We stopped for a quick picture.
No, they were cheering for you, too. Mostly me, but you too!

Madison, Barry's daughter, mentioned that if I couldn't make it she would carry me to the finish line. I asked her if she was ready to carry me... She laughed and said no. I'm not sure if she was tired or just scared of how I looked all sweaty and stuff.
I KNOW Bambi got that conversation on video. :thumbsup2

We also got in a short line for the official marathon photo in front of the castle, which you can purchase for $35.
Which was pretty bad, by the way. You can hardly see the castle at all. :(

Tim: Now... go, my son. Leave me.
Barry: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you.
Tim: You already... have, Barry. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.
:darth:I told her. She has no idea who you are. :lmao::lmao:

Well, it didn't go exactly like that. It was more like:

Tim: I'm done. My leg is done. Go do your thing, I'll see you later.
Barry: OK. Later Sucker!

(or something like that)
That's closer to what it actually was, I know for a fact that I just muttered "sucker" under my breath. I didn't want to discourage you! :rotfl2:

Just kidding - with all of the set backs you had in training, making it 7 miles was quite an accomplishment. We both knew you'd have a hard time finishing, but making it to your goal (the castle) and beyond was a heck of an effort. Congratulations, Tim!

I started walking and I watched Barry run off into the distance.
Wait, just how intently were you watching? Was it one of those "I hate to see you go, but love to watch you leave" things?

For a moment I felt like I failed. I should of been able to keep up with him but my leg would not allow it.
There was a real chance that coming into the race - if you had not been injured - that you could have smoked me. But we'll never know....

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good. He was having some stomach issues and wasn't feeling well.
That's because I passed him at 7 1/2 and my bean burrito breakfast was starting to rear it's ugly head. :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

She told me she saw Barry running by not that long ago...

That was weird! Here I am running, not really paying attention to the crowd because I had already seen Bambi and the kids. All of a sudden, I see Mel just hanging out just over the ropes. I remember telling her that you started to fade around Mile 7, but you were determined.

Oooppps…
Missed a couple of updates.
Let’s see if I can correct that here…

I opened the door and noticed right away how warm and humid it was.

Not what y’all were expecting for January.

We opted to wait for the next bus so we could ride over with Chris.

Very neighborly

When the bus finally showed up there had to be at least 200 people in line, if you could call it that, waiting for a bus.

Aaaaaaand… no good deed goes unpunished.

Luckily, a second bus pulled up and we were the first ones on.

Reprieve extended…
Now you back to just being neighborly

We did have a good bus driver who knew how to drive.. AKA taking a few shortcuts and cutting people off.

The two halves of that sentence don’t quite go together :lmao:

In some places there were 30-40 port-o-pottys lines up with lines 10 people deep waiting to get in them. There were guys, and girls, doing their 'business' in the brush on the sides of the road.

“Oh what a beautiful morning…
Oh what a beautif…

Wait a minute!
***deep breath***
***cough hack wheeze ***

Good lord were y’all raised in a barn!!!”

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/22004_2650927008841_1438594602_n.jpg

Don't we look excited?

Exceedingly so :rotfl2:

Once in the corral, I realized why they call it a corral.

Well from your previous descriptions of the morning thus far, I’d say it was pure social commentary.

I'm pretty sure we wished each other good luck, set our music, and started running.......

Pretty sure?

Were you still not awake and thus memory impaired or was the actual dialoged simply not suitable for these here boards?
:lmao:

We put one foot in front of the other and started running.

“Baby steps… run a half marathon”

Or something like that.

It was shortly after this when I had to take a pit stop in the bushes.... :rolleyes1:

Hay, I’m sure the plants needed watering…

There were many volunteers and spectators cheering us on and holding signs... some which made me laugh out loud.

Details man, Details!

It was around here where I saw someone running barefoot. Ummm no thanks.

Ummmm… agreed
Who am I kidding, I ain’t doing this with shoes.
:rotfl:

We ran under the water bridge and could see the Contemporary in the distance. I think this is where I started really noticing the pain in my left leg.

:headache:

I know Barry and I had a few conversations while running, but I can't recall what they were. LOL

"After you," … "No, no you first” … “oh I couldn’t posibally, you really must proceed” … “Oh, I insist, you most lead on!" …

We came around the corner and saw the castle all lit up with the icicle lights on. It was surreal.

Trying to imagine…
Nope, I can do the gasp that you breath in when you first encounter the castle, but the pain and agony of having just run X-miles… can’t add in that part of the equation.

We ran up to and through the castle. The sky was just starting to brighten. At the opening on the other side, we were looking down Main St. towards the train station.

That… however… had to be a very amazing moment considering the amount of work y’all put into this.

It’s early in the story yet, but congratulations are still in order for all of the folks that did this.

Barry and I had a heart to heart. It went something like this:

Tim: Now... go, my son. Leave me.
Barry: No. You're coming with me. I'll not leave you here, I've got to save you.
Tim: You already... have, Barry. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister... you were right.

Well, it didn't go exactly like that. It was more like:

Tim: I'm done. My leg is done. Go do your thing, I'll see you later.
Barry: OK. Later Sucker!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

For a moment I felt like I failed.

Nope… you succeeded wildly just by starting the adventure in the first place. Truth is… that little competition between you two was probally the biggest driving factor in getting the DDCC underway to begin with.

It just past mile 8 when I ran up to an old friend- Chris! He was walking and didn't look too good.

The Walking Dead…

We were in the Epcot parking lot- not much farther now.

The crowds were cheering and I was really close to Spaceship Earth. All of the sudden I saw Melody…

That should be all you need to make it the rest of the way.

We ran out of a side door and saw the 13 mile marker. There also was a full gospel choir singing as we past this point. That was really cool.

I bet it was…
That I can imagine.

We came around another corner and there it was- the FINISH LINE!!!!

On the good foot. ;)

It probably helped that we were near the back of the corral. Let the masses fight among themselves up front while we stroll to the start line.
That was good planning on our part. :rolleyes2

It was cool that they were blasting the Pirates theme music. I think this is when I popped one ear bud out and listened to my ipod in one ear and the course music in the other.
I had my music low so I could hear the bands, music, you blabbering.

It was right at mile 3. I got a nice picture of the sign while waiting for you.
Thank you. Now I can mark my shirt where I marked. :rotfl:

It was also right around here where that guy in the long sleeve shirt, running tights, gloves and a knit hat passed us as we're wearing tshirts and shorts and just about sweating to death.
Thats right! I also remember wanting to beat him senseless for wearing all that. pixiedust:

Knowing me, they were probably fart jokes.
and Puns.

I think I mentioned to you after we left Main Street, but I don't think I felt any pain while running that stretch.
:ssst:

I know I have footage of this section of the race. As soon as I get it edited (and posted to my TR) I'll post it here, too.
Cool! And thanks for forwarding me the youtube links. I'll start the next post with those. :thumbsup2

No, they were cheering for you, too. Mostly me, but you too!
:rotfl2:

I KNOW Bambi got that conversation on video.
So there is going to be something worth watching for on your TR. :stir:

Which was pretty bad, by the way. You can hardly see the castle at all.
Her pic came out pretty good. ::yes::

:darth:I told her. She has no idea who you are. :lmao:
Oh.. ummmm..... nevermind then.

That's closer to what it actually was, I know for a fact that I just muttered "sucker" under my breath. I didn't want to discourage you! :rotfl2:
I KNEW IT!!

Just kidding - with all of the set backs you had in training, making it 7 miles was quite an accomplishment. We both knew you'd have a hard time finishing, but making it to your goal (the castle) and beyond was a heck of an effort. Congratulations, Tim!
I almost fell off my couch when I read this!

Thank you. :rotfl2:

Wait, just how intently were you watching? Was it one of those "I hate to see you go, but love to watch you leave" things?
No more like, 'I can't believe that #guy# is gonna beat me' :headache:

There was a real chance that coming into the race - if you had not been injured - that you could have smoked me. But we'll never know....
No we won't know. But who knows what would of happened with that heat.

That's because I passed him at 7 1/2 and my bean burrito breakfast was starting to rear it's ugly head.
:rotfl2:

That was weird! Here I am running, not really paying attention to the crowd because I had already seen Bambi and the kids. All of a sudden, I see Mel just hanging out just over the ropes. I remember telling her that you started to fade around Mile 7, but you were determined.
She said the same thing... you just popped into her sight. I think the bright shirts helped.

AND YOU'LL GET MORE OF THE SAME IF YOU CHALLENGE ME AGAIN!
I can't wait.... :rolleyes1

Oooppps…
Missed a couple of updates.
Let’s see if I can correct that here…
NP Rob. Nice to see you!

Not what y’all were expecting for January.
Not at all. We were hoping for 50 and as we got closer, the low temps kept rising.

The two halves of that sentence don’t quite go together
Well that's how people drive up here so he was good in my book. ;)

“Oh what a beautiful morning…
Oh what a beautif…

Wait a minute!
***deep breath***
***cough hack wheeze ***

Good lord were y’all raised in a barn!!!”
No.I don't think so... what's a barn?

Well from your previous descriptions of the morning thus far, I’d say it was pure social commentary.
:rotfl2:

Were you still not awake and thus memory impaired or was the actual dialoged simply not suitable for these here boards?
Yes! :rotfl2:

“Baby steps… run a half marathon”

Or something like that.
You make it sound easy!

Details man, Details!
Some have come back to me...

'Run like you stole something'
'13.1 miles. Because you are only 1/2 crazy'
Sign 1 'Go Hard' Sign 2 'That's What She Said'
'Worst Parade Ever'
Sign 1 (at mile 12) 'You're 1/2 way there' Sign 2 '⟵ He's bad at math'
'That's not sweat, it's your fat cells crying.'
'Go Random Stranger, Go!'

You get the picture... or sign.

Ummmm… agreed
Who am I kidding, I ain’t doing this with shoes.
Come'on. It's fun!

Trying to imagine…
Nope, I can do the gasp that you breath in when you first encounter the castle, but the pain and agony of having just run X-miles… can’t add in that part of the equation.
:rotfl:

That… however… had to be a very amazing moment considering the amount of work y’all put into this.

It’s early in the story yet, but congratulations are still in order for all of the folks that did this.
Well you know I lived. :rotfl2:

Nope… you succeeded wildly just by starting the adventure in the first place. Truth is… that little competition between you two was probally the biggest driving factor in getting the DDCC underway to begin with.
I'm not sure which one came first. Was it the chicken or the egg?

Victory!
::yes::

Hey Katie!

I eat sauce all the time and I don't have any problems. Good thing. :rotfl2:

Good luck with your races! If you do the DL 1/2 and then a WDW 1/2 don't you get the coast to coast medal too? :confused3

Haha that is a good thing. I learned the hard way not to eat tomatoes or drink beer the night before a race this thanksgiving!

Thanks! I'm hoping the leg holds up. I'm on my way home from Disney now and my knee is quite sore right now. Yes if I FINISH both i get the coast to coast medal! Finish is the key word lol. I have my practice half in May in Boston so if I die then I'm sure I can sell my numbers on eBay something.

I'm not sure if anyone told you but if you die in May, you might not be around to sell your numbers. :rolleyes1

Hope you had a great trip! Welcome back to the cold!

Congrats on a great finish! No matter what happens during the race, having that medal around your neck makes it easy to forget the pain!

On a side note, I always get a chuckle out of the people who hop off the course for a restroom break. It amazes me how many people must have nervous bladders and are on the side of the road after a mile or two, haha!

Can't wait to hear what park you headed out to!

Thank you! It was a great experience. I wore that medal all weekend long.... including on the plane and all the way home. :rotfl:

With the heat I think people were drinking a lot of extra fluids. I know I did. I never drank before my training runs but it was also sub 30 degrees.

Probably why I had to make a pit stop near the speedway. :rolleyes1

Can't wait to hear what park you headed out to!
I'll give you 4 guesses. :scratchin

I probably made it to the bag check area about 4:15. Walked through and then stopped in a wall of people. Could not see why we weren't moving but I figured no where to go until someone moves.
Finally it opened up and I could make my way down the service road.
It was cool to see some of the things back there - old trams and maybe even an old boat of some sort.

No pictures and yes the walk was just about back to OKW. :rotfl2:

Strangest thing I saw was as I was walking towards the start, there was a guy, bag check bag in hand running TOWARDS me. My guess is he was trying to start and walked over. :rotfl:

Boy he was in for a surprise.

Sunrise for me was around the Comtemporary and I saw a lone runner after the ramp onto World Drive. He was on his way back to EPCOT already.

Sounds like your race was like mine. I was good until I was approaching MK. THen my knee, the right one, the bad one, started hurting. Hurting like I haven't felt in years. Step , hop , hurting.

That somehow resolved itself in MK. But then the nausea started about mile 7. Not sure if it was overhydration or under but man, that lasted until I saw EPCOT.

Saw a couple of crashes, one as we went under the water by the CR. A woman apparently misjudged the curb and first aid was tending to her and blocking off part of the path. She was all bloody.
Next was a couple of road rashes on the back side of the GF.

Those last hills were just killing me mentally. I was like up.... again.... you are kidding me.

As I entered MK and EPCOT I had to remind myself, I have walked and even jogged a bit up these many times and talk myself into it.

Potty breaks, Had to go as the first fireworks were going off. Figured it wa nerves as that would happen to me at a swim meet too. :rolleyes1
I saw the potties and then did not have to go, as soon as long stretch with no potties.... you guessed it, I had to go. Never did go and I wondered if that is why I was nauseous too. :lmao:

Wasn't that ridiculous? Could of just snuck out the back of the resort. I might do that next year if I can get the approval from Melody. I'm still working on that.

Before I continue....

If you want to take a few minutes and check out THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWDQ0k4_X8o) video taken during the 1/2. You can run the whole route in 13 minutes without even leaving your house. It takes you through arriving at Epcot, the staging area, the corrals, the start, the route, and the finish.... and I'm even in the video!!!!!! At 3:45, you can see me in the bottom left hand corner turning around towards the fireworks behind us then turning back around towards the camera. Exciting stuff, I know!

Also if you haven't been following along with Barry, which if you aren't you are smarter than I, he has started his version of the 1/2 marathon nemesis challenge HERE! (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3055939)

I had just run under the here:

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06696.jpg

and was handed one of these:

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/272842_587746967917936_1363250630_o.jpg

I grabbed a few waters from the table as well as a few power-aides. Around the next corner was a little runDisney boxed breakfast- if you want to call it that- as well as bananas.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/IMAG0826.jpg

I saw a lot of people walking around with ice wrapped on their legs but I couldn't figure out where to get that. I did find a help yourself ice station and grabbed a bag. I called Melody and she was working her way over to the finish line. There was a tent with 1/2 marathon merchandise and I stopped in and grabbed a few souvenirs.

A short sleeve t-shirt and a long sleeve t-shirt. (Sorry I don't have pictures of them although the short sleeved shirt will show up in this report.)

$77 later I left the staging area and met up with Melody on the side of the bleachers. We walked toward the Epcot entrance and asked a CM if the DHS busses were running. Unfortunately, they weren't running yet. He said the way to get to DHS was to take the monorail to the TTC and catch a bus from there. I didn't question him, but thinking back, I wonder if the back entrance to Epcot was open at 8:45am.

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security. Why there were only 2 people checking bags, I will never understand. There was also a Brazilian tour group in line. They were very well behaved and talking amongst themselves in no particular line which helped some of the other guests find some openings to get towards the bag check quicker. My left leg was very sore, and I hobbled up the ramp to the monorail. As we got to the top, the monorail showed up. There were so many people wearing medals getting on. It was cool watching us drive up World Drive seeing where I just ran.

We arrived at the TTC and walked over to the bus stop to get on a bus to DHS. There wasn't one person waiting which made me think we just missed a bus. We waited about 10 minutes for a bus to arrive. The roads were still closed from the 1/2 so we had to take an unusual route to DHS. We got into the park and I went to the bathroom to change, while Melody ran over to TSM to grab FPs.

We met up at Starring Rolls since Melody wanted a coffee. I should of had her buy me one of those awesome cupcakes but I already ate 3 bananas and drank 4 waters and a power-aid. We sat down for a few minutes, and figured out a game plan. We had a TSM FP for a few hours from now and we had never seen Indiana Jones, which was starting in about 45 minutes. It seemed that this was a good time to see that. What could we fit in before Indiana Jones? How about ToT and RnCC!

On the way....

While Melody did a little shopping, I had some fun. My favorite ride is RnCC and I wanted to ride that first. I passed up the 10 minute wait for ToT. I went to the single rider line but the CM handed me a FP and sent me through the FP line. I walked into the studio and got right in to see the show. The line was short and I asked to ride in the front car. Before I knew it I was cruising the highways of LA.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06698.jpg

I got through the line and rode in about 10 minutes. On to TOT!!!

As I was walking over to ToT, I saw the wait time which was 10 minutes just a few minutes earlier was now 80 minutes! WHAT?!?! That was crazy. I asked the CM if the time was accurate. He walked over and spoke to the CMs at the entrance. Apparently, there was a few tour groups that went through. WOW. I'd maybe wait 20 minutes... there was NO WAY I'd wait 80 minutes.

I walked back down Sunset Boulevard and met up with Melody who was shopping, trying to figure out what to buy for our mom's for watching the kids. We saw a few things that were possible choices but we didn't buy anything. It was almost time for Indiana Jones to start, so we strolled in that direction.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/43927920150_zps43042f6e.jpg

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06705.jpg

We liked it and we were glad we saw it. I don't think it would be scary for the kids at all. I think they would might get a little bored watching it though.

Since we were on that side of the park, I suggested that I ride Star Tours just to make sure the ride was functioning properly. The wait time was 10 minutes, but I was able to walk right in and get on with about a 1 minute wait. While I was riding Melody grabbed some fruit and found a nice spot to catch some sun. We kept walking through the park towards Pixar Place. Our FP window was open for TSM. On the walk we saw that The Backlot Tour was open. I think it has only been open once in all our Disney trips. We got in the line, which was fairly long. They called the next group of people and we made it to the front and were about to pass the CM when we were stopped. They had enough people - we had to wait for the next tour. UGH. I asked the CM how long the tour was and she said 35-40 minutes. We had to make a decision, to wait and hopefully make it to TSM before our FP ran out, or to just get out of line. We decided to take our chances and stay. I was watching the time like a hawk... Finally, the next group was called and we were ready for our tour.

While on our tour we had to stop numerous times because a girl kept standing up. The CM kept asking her to sit down which she did, but then moments later was standing again. At one point the girl (who was a teenager and was not english speaking) was sitting on the seat back. I could tell the CM was getting frustrated (as were the other riders) but I give the CM credit for keeping her cool. Not sure if there was a language barrier or the girl was just being an idiot. Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL

We walked over to TSM and had 5 minutes to spare before our FP window closed.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06715_zps2a5a0903.jpg

I beat her again and she couldn't use holding the kids as an excuse. It was just after 1 and we wanted to get back to the resort for a little R&R before our dinner. We did have one more stop to make though.

We have monogramed towels for both Christopher and Juliana and Melody wanted to get the baby one too. The only problem was, we didn't decide on a name yet. Melody & Juliana had their favorite name picked out but I didn't. We got to the counter to pick out a towel and then we had to tell the CM the name. We talked about it for a minute and we decided on Gabriella. I guess that will be a good story to tell her when she grows up- he name was chosen at checkout counter in Hollywood Studios. We ordered the towel and hopped the bus back to Old Key West.

We stopped in the room to get our bathing suits on, well one of us did. The other one forget to pack hers.... and for the first time since 6am I was able to use the bathroom again! I drank about 6 water bottles and a power-aid since the run ended. I guess I was a little dehydrated. We hopped on a bus back to the Hospitality House and ordered up a little snack. Conch chowder and some onion rings. That would be sure to hold us (me) over till dinner. The chowder was spicy and meaty. I really enjoyed it and it brought me back to the first time I ate conch chowder in the Bahamas.

I also treated myself to a cold beer. I think after the events of the early morning, I deserved one. We found a few chairs and Melody was just relaxing in the sun. I took a quick swim in the pool...

Those tour groups will screw up the lines every single time. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You should have done TOT first and then the single rider line for that horrid roller coaster.

Love the photopass pics of you and Mel.

Gabriella--what a beautiful name. Mark and Alisha's flower girl's name is Gabriella.

We've done done Indiana Jones since 2008 and the only reason we did it is our friends who were with us had never seen it. I figure I've seen it once and no need to do it again. But I never thought it would frighten children. Bore them to death...yes, but not frighten.

I cannot believe you had never done the Backlot tour. Andy got picked three or four years ago when he took his baseball team fo ra tournament to participate

Glad you two got some relaxing pool time. My goal is to actually go the main pool this trip as we have yet to do it (okay, I went once with Cayley and Avery, but it's not the same because I didn't go in the pool).

Before I continue....

If you want to take a few minutes and check out THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWDQ0k4_X8o) video taken during the 1/2. You can run the whole route in 13 minutes without even leaving your house.

Now that's the best way I've seen to run a race yet! Can't believe you suckers actually did it on foot. Where's my medal?:sad2::rotfl:

There was a tent with 1/2 marathon merchandise and I stopped in and grabbed a few souvenirs.

Now I know why you weren't buying t-shirts anywhere else.

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security. Why there were only 2 people checking bags, I will never understand. There was also a Brazilian tour group in line.

Good call. Way too long to be worth it.:thumbsup2

:headache: Gee. Can't ride ToT. What a shame. :rotfl2:

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....

We liked it and we were glad we saw it. I don't think it would be scary for the kids at all. I think they would might get a little bored watching it though.

I've always liked that show. The only problem for my kids was that it was really LOUD. My boys both watched the whole thing with their hands over their ears.

Backlot tour...TSM. Yup, that's a toughie. :lmao:

Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL

:rotfl2: Well, like most things, it's interesting to try...once.

We walked over to TSM and had 5 minutes to spare before our FP window closed.

At least you guys were productive!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I think it would be even funnier if you guys changed your minds again. Then your daughter would grow up all her life thinking, "Who the #$%@ is Gabriella?":rotfl2:

It's a very nice name, though. :thumbsup2

We stopped in the room to get our bathing suits on, well one of us did. The other one forget to pack hers.... and for the first time since 6am I was able to use the bathroom again!

Oh, come on. I'm sure there were plenty of bushes along the way.

Thank you!!!! and Thank you again!!! :lmao: :goodvibes:goodvibes

Florida is quite lovely, thanks for asking! Especially considering the snow storm due to hit the NE this weekend :scared1:

Instead of shoveling snow this weekend I'll be wearing shorts & flip flops walking around Epcot. I think I made the right choice

What a fun update! I love the name story and Gabriella is beautiful, just beautiful. Heavens, I keep reading TR's that involve half's and have a co worker breathing down my neck doing every DLR run in sight with his wife popping into my office weekly to nudge me, it almost makes me want to run. Almost. People posting corrals for the princess makes me calculate what my time "could" be. And then I think about the o'dark thirty part and the crowds and...my sanity comes back. And I remember, I don't run.

Oh OKW, how I love that place. That chowder looks SO good right now...as does that pool. You did deserve a cold beer.

At 3:45, you can see me in the bottom left hand corner turning around towards the fireworks behind us then turning back around towards the camera. Exciting stuff, I know!
Well, with those shirts you should be easy to spot... :rotfl2::lmao:

A pint glass
You just ran 13.1 miles. Have a beer. :thumbsup2

In order to get on the monorail, you have to go through Epcot security.
Really??? :confused3 Why's that? I thought the monorail station was outside the security check... you don't have to go through security to get on at TTC.

We got into the park and I went to the bathroom to change, while Melody ran over to TSM to grab FPs.
I just can't believe you went straight to a park and changed. I'd have wanted to take a shower first or jump in a pool to cool down after that a run like that. Or maybe just dive into Echo Lake. :rotfl2:

I should of had her buy me one of those awesome cupcakes but I already ate 3 bananas and drank 4 waters and a power-aid.
No excuses. Those cupcakes are awesome. And the sugar rush might have been helpful at that point in the day. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

What could we fit in before Indiana Jones? How about ToT and RnCC!
Great idea!!! I'm sure Melody will enjoy that too!

Oh yeah... I guess you'll be off having fun while she's sitting around waiting for you.

I walked into the studio and got right in to see the show. The line was short and I asked to ride in the front car. Before I knew it I was cruising the highways of LA.
Nice! :thumbsup2

As I was walking over to ToT, I saw the wait time which was 10 minutes just a few minutes earlier was now 80 minutes!
What the Beverly??? :faint:

Apparently, there was a few tour groups that went through. WOW. I'd maybe wait 20 minutes... there was NO WAY I'd wait 80 minutes.
Wow... define "a few." :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Must have been a lot of tour groups in line to back it up that much.

I never did factor the Brazilian influence into Barry's anniversary plans... something like that could really throw a kink in his plans.

Now we've been to Disney 10? times, and have never seen this show. I think the reason was all the guide books said not to bring small children to it because they will be scared. We sat down and the show started shortly after....
I like the show. Haven't seen it since 2008, so it isn't a must do, but it's got explosions and stunt work, so it works for me. :thumbsup2 Not really something I've ever considered scary, unless you have a child that just can't handle the loud noises. :confused3 I'd tend to think boredom between scenes would definitely be the bigger issue.

They had enough people - we had to wait for the next tour. UGH. I asked the CM how long the tour was and she said 35-40 minutes. We had to make a decision, to wait and hopefully make it to TSM before our FP ran out, or to just get out of line.
Wait a minute... there was a decision to be made???? :confused3 :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

We decided to take our chances and stay.
And that's what you went with?????? :confused3 :faint:

At one point the girl (who was a teenager and was not english speaking) was sitting on the seat back. I could tell the CM was getting frustrated (as were the other riders) but I give the CM credit for keeping her cool. Not sure if there was a language barrier or the girl was just being an idiot.
I tend to think that in most cases the language barrier is only a barrier when convenient... They need to give CM's duct tape...

Finally the ride came to the end and I looked at Melody and said how I was thankful the BLT has been closed on every one of our trips. LOL
I haven't riddent it since 2008 and I can't say that I'm upset about it. Truthfully, it used to be a much, much better experience back in the 90's. They have just whittled away at it to the point that it is just a shell of what it used to be, unfortunately. It sounds like it might be going away for good though if they do the Carsland thing, so at least you got to do it once.

Well, I guess that gift shop at Hollywood Studios will always be special to your family. :lmao:

Gabriella- what a beautiful name! I'm sure that will make a great story. After all, all of life's important decisions should be made in Disney :rotfl:

I love BLT but I don't think its an every trip ride. It can be a little long and being cut off at the end of the tram group stinks! I've heard rumors that they're planning on scraping it which does make me a little sad. Its always nice to see some of that old movie magic!

Those tour groups will screw up the lines every single time. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You should have done TOT first and then the single rider line for that horrid roller coaster.
I guess if I knew TOT was going to just to 80 minutes I would of. :headache:

Love the photopass pics of you and Mel.
Thank u!

Gabriella--what a beautiful name. Mark and Alisha's flower girl's name is Gabriella.
Thanks! Melody & Juliana have been pushing for Gabriella for a while. :goodvibes

We've done done Indiana Jones since 2008 and the only reason we did it is our friends who were with us had never seen it. I figure I've seen it once and no need to do it again. But I never thought it would frighten children. Bore them to death...yes, but not frighten.
:lmao::lmao:

Maybe a few load booms might scare Christopher but he ended up liking the fireworks so he probably would be fine.

I cannot believe you had never done the Backlot tour. Andy got picked three or four years ago when he took his baseball team fo ra tournament to participate
It has been closed every single time. (except once!)

Glad you two got some relaxing pool time. My goal is to actually go the main pool this trip as we have yet to do it (okay, I went once with Cayley and Avery, but it's not the same because I didn't go in the pool).
We went to the main pool because I wanted a drink and I saw that conch chowder on the menu. :goodvibes

Now that's the best way I've seen to run a race yet! Can't believe you suckers actually did it on foot. Where's my medal?

Epcot is different. You have to go through security even before you hit the ticket booths. Kinda a pain if you ask me. :headache:

What a wonderful name, and yes that will be a funny story to tell ....even funnier if the ultrasound was wrong. Sorry son, you are stuck with that name, we had a towel made with it. :rotfl2:

I had a few things done in Claire's name before she was born. I found the sex out by amnio, and it was like 96% accurate, and I worried that I would be that small percentage that was wrong.

I've run a 5K a few times. Not in an official race of course but the distance. Can't say I liked it all that much :rotfl: But my son needed to run with someone so I sucked it up. I can do it, and considering I don't run, my times aren't hideous as a starting point. But I can't say I liked it.

I am finding myself in an odd spot though. With a few various health issues I've been locked out of some (several) things I love to do and may well find myself in a situation where running may be something I can do without (re)injuring myself as an alternative.

I find that supremely annoying. :rotfl:

We will see. I do need to figure out something, I've become complacent in my workouts as a result of my limitations and that's not ok.

I'm sure you could handle it if you want to. I know running by myself isn't that fun but when there are a few thousand people running with you it is really fun.

I will say running does take a toll on your body. Those repeated foot strikes can mess you up. Believe me, I know. :sad2:

After running in the half, spending the morning in DHS, and relaxing a bit at the OKW pool, it was time to head back to the room to get ready for dinner. We were eating at the perfect post race restaurant- 'Ohana!

We hopped a bus over to MK and were were treated to a ride on the Avengers monorail for the short ride to the Poly.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06724_zps2ff90245.jpg

Our ADR was at 6:30 but we arrived at the Poly at 5:30. Why so early? To meet up with a few 'characters' at the Tambu Lounge before dinner. Some of the DISdads had dinner ADRs at 'Ohana this evening as well. What better way to get prepared to stuff your face than have a cocktail before dinner? The crew ended up being CJ and his daughter 'Crash', Aaron, Paul, Randall and his wife Jodi, Chris, and Scott. We talked for a while and even saw Barry and his family walk by heading to their 'Ohana ADR too.

http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo351/djtimbct/Marathon%20Jan%202013/2013%20Jan%20Marathon%20Trip/DSC06728_zps826069ed.jpg

(I don't know what happened to CJ... looks like Carl was boxing you out!)

We had a fun time talking and drinking before it was our turn to be seated for dinner. We ended up with a window seat but we couldn't see the castle- it was being blocked by trees. We started getting our food and there were a few changes. 1st the broccoli is now broccoli with mixed veggies -kinda like a stir fry. 2nd the dipping sauces have been narrowed down to just one- the peanut sauce. I missed the other sauces and asked our waiter about it. He said the menu just changed and they cook the shrimp with the sweet & sour sauce now. He hooked us up and brought some over to us. He was really nice. We talked with him for at over 5 minutes at one point.

After having a drink or 2 before dinner, I needed to use the rest room. On my way back I saw where Barry was sitting and stopped to say hi. He was joined at dinner by Aaron and his family. Barry and Aaron were having a shrimp eating contest- or was it a shrimp carcass stacking contest? Well whatever it was, it was impressive.

Barry's plate

I also got a hug from Barry's daughter Madison and a hi-five from Evan! Ryder on the other hand just stared at me. Oh well 2 out of 3 isn't bad.

I got back to my table and it was time for dessert.

I kept checking the time to see if we would make it over to the MK in time for Wishes and it wasn't gonna happen. So we walked down to the beach and found a good spot to watch....

It was fun watching the fireworks from the beach with the reflection in the water but the castle seemed so far away. We hopped on the monorail and headed over to the MK. We got there just in time to see Celebrate the Magic- the new projection show on the castle.

The graphics are much better than The Magic, the Memories, & You but I liked the MM&Y show so much better. I loved how they took pictures from the guests and put them on the castle. Maybe I have a soft spot for the MM&Y because Juliana's picture was in the show in 2011.

After the show we stopped for a quick picture...

We were in MK, had no kids, and had no plan. Hummmm... what should we do. How about Aladdin's Carpets? I have no clue how we ended up here but we did. Then we rode POTC. A quick check of the time and it was time for MSEP...

After MSEP we rode a few more rides then called it a night. We did grab another picture on the way out..

Melody was tired and there was another meet up that I had to get to. The DISdads LIVE podcast was happening in Carl's room at OKW. I got there just in time to add a few rambling comments before the podcast ended. I think I came in around the 1h 20m mark. DISDads Podcast (http://disdads.com/archives/3292) After re-listening to what I was saying, I think I was partly delirious. LOL

I was able to meet and hang out with a few more DISdads that were down there for the weekend. I made it back to my room at 1am after waking up at 3am. I almost made 24 straight hours! I was beat. Time for bed.

Up next... a Beverly of a day.

You guys chowed down and I snacked. Appetite mostly gone so I nibbled for dinner.

Went over to Ak and my pictures stop at 6:38 so my guess is back tot eh room and crashed. :rotfl2:

I guess my questions is Did the fireworks blast for the marathon wake you up Sunday Morning?

After running in the half, spending the morning in DHS, and relaxing a bit at the OKW pool, it was time to head back to the room to get ready for dinner. We were eating at the perfect post race restaurant- 'Ohana!

:cool1::woohoo:

Some of the DISdads had dinner ADRs at 'Ohana this evening as well.

It would have been awesome to be there with you guys.

He was joined at dinner by Aaron and his family. Barry and Aaron were having a shrimp eating contest- or was it a shrimp carcass stacking contest? Well whatever it was, it was impressive.

Most impressive. :darth:

Aaron's plate

I also got a hug from Barry's daughter Madison and a hi-five from Evan! Ryder on the other hand just stared at me. Oh well 2 out of 3 isn't bad.

So Ryder was not impressed.

I kept checking the time to see if we would make it over to the MK in time for Wishes and it wasn't gonna happen. So we walked down to the beach and found a good spot to watch....

That's a great place to watch from, anyway.

True, but the crowds aren't nearly as bad either!

I don't know if you're totally objective on this one...

Maybe I have a soft spot for the MM&Y because Juliana's picture was in the show in 2011.

There it is!

(I don't know what happened to CJ... looks like Carl was boxing you out!)
Still working hard to defend Team Tim. Well done, Carl. :thumbsup2

He hooked us up and brought some over to us. He was really nice. We talked with him for at over 5 minutes at one point.
Always makes it a great experience when you can get a server that goes above and beyond. :thumbsup2

Well... since I was against Team Barry for the 1/2... Go Team Aaron!!! :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

I have to say, I'm not a big shrimp fan, but I'd be in for a rib bone stacking contest at WCC...

She didn't stick a sign on your back when she hugged you, did she? :confused3

Great viewing location!

You're definitely biased on this one, not that I can blame you.:thumbsup2

I really think the new show is a lot better.

After re-listening to what I was saying, I think I was partly delirious. LOL
That explains a few things, but I don't think you were the only one in an altered state. :rotfl2::lmao:

There was fireworks on Sunday morning too? :confused3 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

It would have been awesome to be there with you guys.
Yes it would of. Next time. :thumbsup2

So Ryder was not impressed.
Nah. He was taking that whole Team Barry thing too far.

That's a great place to watch from, anyway.
True, but the crowds aren't nearly as bad either!
It was fine but I prefer standing in the hub.

I don't know if you're totally objective on this one...
I know.... I know.

You're an animal! I would have been done long before that.
Well, I did get to see you at the podcast. That was you wasn't it? Or was it an impostor? :confused3

Still working hard to defend Team Tim. Well done, Carl. :thumbsup2
His work is never done. :rotfl:

Always makes it a great experience when you can get a server that goes above and beyond. :thumbsup2
Yea, he was really nice and just down to earth.

Well... since I was against Team Barry for the 1/2... Go Team Aaron!!!
Not sure who won that battle... maybe we should ask Barry who won? :confused3 :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I have to say, I'm not a big shrimp fan, but I'd be in for a rib bone stacking contest at WCC...
Really? Do you hate all seafood or just shrimp?

[QUOET]She didn't stick a sign on your back when she hugged you, did she? [/QUOTE]
Nah. Unlike her dad, she really likes me! :goodvibes

You're definitely biased on this one, not that I can blame you.:thumbsup2
Geez. I guess I am.

I really think the new show is a lot better.
I'm not convinced.

That explains a few things, but I don't think you were the only one in an altered state. :rotfl2::lmao:
Well they were having a few cocktails.... I think my brain was shot from running and being up close to 24 hours. I had a few with Carl after the podcast was over. :rotfl:

Don't hate it, and I don't mind eating it. I just don't like it to the point that I want to keep eating it until I can't eat anymore. BBQ ribs, on the other hand...

What a fun night! I'm impressed at how late all the DISdad's stayed up after getting up at o'dark thirty.

Who knew there was a podcast.

Peel and eat is just too much work for too little reward. I'm not thrilled with the Ohana menu changes.

I might have try ohana since they changed it up. We went in Nov and we really didn't like the sauces on the shrimp and steak. I do like sweet and sour though.

Yet another place we have never eaten -- Ohana. I read such different reviews of the food that I've not been convinced it is worth my getting all worked up to try to get an ADR. Looks like Barry was doing a good job on his shrimp. :thumbsup2

Great photopass photos of you and Mel.

See I like the new castle show much better; but, I guess if I were you, I would have preferred the old one because of Princess Ana. :goodvibes

I guess for me that was part of it..... the change in sleep schedule played havoc with me as well as the physical abuse. :lmao:

I heard the main burst at 5:30 and maybe some of the separate corrals going off.
