Hello!

Welcome to my TR!

Many of you already know me, so I will try to keep the intros short & sweet.

We got back on Dec 16 from our 9th trip to Walt Disney World! It's hard to believe we have been there that many times. Our very first trip was in 2005 and we were hooked and we just keep going back!! :yay:

I am the mom, the wife, the Disney lover! I have been married to my DH for almost 15 years and we have 2 wonderful boys. I work part time at my kids school as a Teaching Assistant. I am also a soccer mom, PTO mom, room mom, and all that fun stuff! In my spare time I enjoy shopping, photography, and of course everything Disney!

DH has become quite the Disney fan himself! He works a lot of hours as a Quality Assurance Inspector, so he really looks forward to our family vacations to the sunshine state! In his spare time he enjoys spending time with the boys and being outdoors.

DS13 is our oldest. Hard to believe he's a teenager already. :faint: He enjoys reading, being with his friends, playing video games, riding his 4-wheeler, archery, and loves roller coasters! He still enjoys Disney very much and I hope that doesn't change anytime soon. DS13 is very out-going and hilarious and is always the star of the show! :cool1:

DS11 is our little guy. He enjoys playing soccer, being outside, playing video games, and most of all Legos!! He loves Disney very much and I can always count on him if I want to talk about Disney! DS11 is very laid back and easy-going and doesn't have a care in the world. :cloud9:

Here's a pic from our trip ~

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012280_zpsfdcc9b3a.jpg

Our WDW trip history includes: October 2005, May 2007, May 2008, Jan 2009, Nov 2009, Nov 2010, Aug/Sept 2011, and Apr/May 2012. When we were there this past spring there was a bounceback offer in the room for 35% off any deluxe resort. At the time we were at the BC and not enjoying the hectic atmosphere there and knew we wanted to be at the Poly next time. The bounceback dates were only through 2012, so we booked the last week available - Dec 9-16. Actually we only booked Dec 11-16, and later added on Dec 9-11 at the GF and turned what was supposed to be a quick little Christmas trip into a full week!

I guess that about sums it up. So come on in and make yourself comfortable and don't be afraid to post!! I look forward to sharing lots of stories & pics with old friends and hope to make some new friends along the way too!

Hope you enjoy! :goodvibes

I wuz "involved". Sounds like a crime was committed.:scared1:

The chocolate. Oh my. Precious.

Seriously though--- I'm all out of the good stuff you handed me over that balcony that night. :thumbsup2
You've created a monster, just so you know.:hyper:

Since I ate MY box in two days I need more.:rotfl: Best dang stuff on da planet! Thinking of placing an order for Valentines. And Easter. And hum, what other holidays are there? Is it proper to give chocolate for MLK day? Presidents day? Whatever the reason, I'm all over it.:cool1:

Love that video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!:yay:

Okay so I just noticed something in your pic by the tree. You had your hair down for it but when we can back that night from the parks you had it in a bun didn't you???? It was so pretty that way. You know that MC and I are jealous of your hair. :rotfl: I might be the tall one, but you've got the hair, girl!! Anyway-- just an observation. You should wear it like that a lot. Very elegant.

:rotfl2: Well, there were no crimes committed (that I know of). But you were involved!! :rotfl:

Well I'm not sure if it's proper to give chocolate on all those occasions, but I'm pretty sure it's proper to eat it any day and every day!! ::yes:: That really is the best chocolate in the world!!

You are quite observant! :rotfl: Actually that night on the balcony I had just washed my face and I always pull my hair up in a ponytail or bun when I do that. Guess I just hadn't taken it down when we went out on the balcony. And then you guys arrived!! It was so funny, DH and I were sitting there and it was all quiet and then your door opened and we both sort of jumped, like we thought no one else was staying there! :upsidedow And then DH said something corny so you would know we were out there.

Awww good times. :cloud9:

No crimes-- that you know of???? :lmao: You think I'd hide it from you if there was??? I'd never be a good criminal b/c the first thing I'd say is "Holy crap wait till I tell Shelly this story!!"

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And yeah, I'm observant. It's bad but I notice small details about people in seconds of seeing them that no one else notices. I better not ever get mugged b/c they'd be in trouble- I could give a full description to the police.:hyper:

Oh yes... those were good times. Wish I could hit the rewind button. :guilty: Sorry I scared you opening the door. Ya'll were all relaxing and my big mouth came bustin out there to interrupt you.

Okay so I just looked and a 3 pound box of chocolate assorted is ONLY $51 plus shipping. And yes it has to be 3 pounds. If you're gonna be bad, you have to do it big. :bitelip:

Yay :yay: You've started the TR! This is gonna be fun! ::yes::

I love the video! You are so good at the music and picture interaction.....or whatever you call it. What I'm trying to say is that the music and pictures go together so well. ;)

Your DS13 is hilarious. That part with him dancing under the balcony will come in handy as blackmail in the future. He is too cute and funny! And DS11 is getting in on the action with his hoola-hooping - good for him! :thumbsup2 You have such precious boys - or maybe they would prefer handsome. ;)

Love the pics of you and Jodi. It looks like you are up on your toes in one of the pics - trying to add a few inches - that was so cute! Your hair looks really pretty. I don't know if I would have noticed a color change from the pictures if you hadn't given us a *heads up* but since I knew, I can tell it is different. Very nice! I agree with Jodi about hair in a bun. I always love my DD's hair when she wears it up. She has long, brown hair that she usually wears down, but I think it makes her look so pretty and sophisticated when it is up. I wish I had long enough hair to do that!

I'm looking forward to all your stories and pics!

Aw thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video! :) I know, DS13 dancing was hilarious!! As soon as DS11 started hoola-hooping I knew I had to record it for our vacation video because he won't dance for the camera like DS13! :faint:

Yeah, Jodi always makes me feel so dang short. But then again, I am!! :upsidedow :rotfl: Yep, the hair is a little darker, but you really can't tell too much in the pics. I wear it up a lot at home, just need it out of my face when I'm doing things around the house. But I hardly wear it up when I'm out. :confused3

I figured it out!! All by myself! I don't know why it didn't wok the first time.
Awesome video, Shelly!! What great memories!!

What did you do to get it to work? When I click on it, it opens a new tab in chrome and takes me to the mobile site and won't play anything.

Day 1 Sunday December 9th

So it was finally here, Sunday Dec 9. We hadn't left on a Sunday since our very first trip many years ago. And I probably won't do that again! Friday and Saturday took forever!! We had a 7am flight out of Pittsburgh. So we were up at 3:30, left the house around 4:20, got to the off-site parking lot at 5:15, and to the airport around 5:30.

Wasn't sure what to expect at the airport at that hour, but it wasn't too bad. We breezed through security in no time and were to our gate.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012003_zps94be3bd7.jpg

Boarding started early and our flight left on time! And in less than 2 hours we were to Orlando! We jumped off the plane, made a quick stop for some very over-priced Mtn. Dew for me, and then made our way down to ME. We went right through an empty line and up to the rope at the front. In less than 5 minutes a CM came over and led us to a waiting bus. It was about half full and about 2 other families boarded after us and we were on our way. The driver informed us that the bus would be making 4 stops and the GF would be last.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012006_zps7be8280a.jpg

We first stopped at the WL and we were in and out of there in no time! Then it was onto the CR. Where it took forever. There was a traffic jam as soon as we pulled in there. (We found this to be the case there all week on the buses) It took several minutes to even get to the bus stop to let people off. Ten minutes or more I would guess. Then we finally got to the ME stop and the people all unloaded, slowly it seemed like! Then more traffic on the way out. Crazy!

While we were sitting at the CR stopped we noticed a car sitting there that said Turner Drugs Delivery. We made note of this number just in-case. DS11 had strep the week before we left and was still on an anti-biotic for it. We were very afraid DS13 was going to get it when we were on vacation. So our pediatrician here told us to find a drug store at WDW that they could call something into if DS13 got sick. Little did we know, this number would come in handy 2X during this trip...

So during all of our ME stops Jodi (JoBird) and I were texting back & forth, she had arrived at the GF the night before. Her and her family were up and ready to head out to DTD for an early lunch because they had early dinner ADR's later. I had expected to be at the GF by now, but with all the stops it was taking longer than expected. So they were waiting on us at the front entrance of the GF so we could all say hi before they headed off to DTD and we got checked in and headed off to AK.

Our final ME stop before the GF was the Poly. Thankfully it didn't take too long! And then we were finally at the GF!! I'm not even sure what time it was.....10:30 maybe?

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012011_zpsa279c343.jpg

Our bus pulled up and we saw Jodi and family standing there!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012014_zps6aeebcc9.jpg

We jumped off the bus, grabbed our bags, and headed over. We were greeted by a CM on the way. She asked for our name and we walked towards the main building with her. While she was looking up our ressie we said quick hello's to Jodi and family before they headed out to DTD. While we were doing that the CM came back over and told us that our room was not ready, so we would need to store our luggage with Bell services. It was very warm and humid and we were in jeans, so I told her that since our room was not ready we were going to need to change our clothes before heading out to AK. She kind of looked at me strange like no one had ever made that request before and there was an awkward pause.....So I said where would be a good place for us to go change? We were now standing at the front of the building. Jodi leans over to me and reminds me to ask if my room requests have been granted and tells me that they are going to take off. So we say our good-byes to them. The CM tells us that there is a changing room right around the corner and points to the right side of the building. So I thought maybe there was some kind of restroom/changing room on the outside of that side of the building. So I quickly grab us each a pair of shorts out of our bags and we head back. We are walking along a sidewalk with a fence running along side of it. Apparently looking confused. :crazy2: Pretty soon she comes walking behind us and points out by the pool. Here she meant the changing rooms out by the beach pool!:upsidedow Had I known that's what she meant I probably would have just went into the restrooms by 1900 PF.

So after all that, we put our extra clothes we had changed out of into the luggage and Bell services took it and our CM walked us through the lobby and to the SL building.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012015_zps48c830ea.jpg

When we got there she sat us at a table in the lounge while she headed over to check us in with the CM at the desk. I asked her if our room requests had been noted, assuming they had been since they were noted on my ressie when I made it, plus had been confirmed with IPO via email. But she couldn't see them anywhere. So I told them that I had requested an upper floor, daybed, and Marina view (since the other side of the building's view was into the courtyard pool construction zone). She said they would do their best. They gave us our packet and room keys and told us they would text us our room number when it was ready.

So by now we were all starving! And unfortunately the lounge had stopped serving breakfast by now and it was going to be another 20 minutes or so before the 11:30-2 Refreshment offerings. So we decided to just chill a little bit and wait it out. Pop and lemonade and other beverages are always out, so we got some drinks and waited. Pretty soon they started to bring snacks out and we got something to eat and then headed out to the bus stop to go to AK for a bit.

There is a new TV screen hanging up at the bus stop telling you the time the next bus will arrive for each park. It's really pretty neat. Except that the time changes as you are sitting there. I suppose it's going off of the GPS on the bus and if there is traffic or a wheelchair to load or any other hold up, the time will change accordingly.

Check in sounds like it was quite the hassle! We had a similar issue when we checked into GF and stayed in SL in November. Our room was not ready yet, and we wanted to change. Luckily, we were able to change in the restrooms by 1900 PF. Unfortunately, breakfast was still going on, so that whole area was crazy and the restroom was full of people (it is small to begin with.) I think that SL definitely needs its own changing/restroom area in its lobby!

I think those screens at the bus stop are great too! Even though the times change often on them, at least you are able to get a pretty good idea of when the bus is going to get there.

Can't wait to read more about you and Jodi meeting up! I'm sure you gals had a blast!

It was confusing to me and I wasn't even trying to be involved. I just wanted to say Hi and let ya'll do your thing.:rotfl2:

Everyone was standing around looking at the lady and she was looking at you and us and the sheet and holy cow it was like, um, hello!?! Do your job that I know you can do. She acted as if you had requested a circus to come rolling thru with a band playing to give you a great big welcome or something when all you wanted was a place to change.
:faint:

That's when I said okay we are outta here. Figured you might get further without the confusion of us yapping.:crazy2:

Whew. I'm so sorry that your arrival wasn't as wonderful as it should have been. It was bad enough that it took forever to get there, with all the stops on the bus. Grumble grumble don't get me started.:rotfl:

Okay, whelp I'm looking forward to hearing about your time in AK.::yes::

:rotfl2: You are too funny! I'd call them something like that too. I bet they'd be good with hummus.
Glad your migraine is gone! - you get those a lot? My co-worker was getting them (or so she thought) and they determined it was tension and made her do PT and exercises.

September huh? Are you booked at GF again? was there a bounceback? Is that before school starts or do you skip?
Did I ask enough questions?
This year we will start on 9/3. We'll just be back from Alaska on Labor Day weekend, so we'll have to get right down into school.

Yep. Cracker Stick Thingy-s. ;) It works. Not sure about the hummus. Never been able to convince myself to try it. I have a bit of a texture issue and that looks...... chunky or something to me.
But Mark says that it's great with the dips they serve- I think it's a spinach one and a tapenade type one too I think. I can't eat them since going Gluten Free.

Migranes--- ugh. I'm sure mine have something to do with tension but mostly hormones. They are a-changing. Loverly. "Welcome to 40! Obviously, it sucks." Favorite line EVAH. (btw, Mark remembered my 41st bday this year and showered me appropriately with gifts for days both before and after.):rotfl2:

I see you're going to Hilton Head!! Will you take a side trip to Charleston, my home town??:drive:
If you decide to and need suggestions, let me know-- I'd be happy to help! Your cruise sounds so wonderful! I have heard that those ones to Alaska are the best.

My kids are not going to be out of school for our trip. In fact one of them is leaving the nest heading to college so she won't be with us. :( I will take them out of school but they'll miss only 4 days.

I'm a bad parent and yes I got the nasty gram from the school already this year after they missed 5 days in December. But they all made A's this quarter after the trip. Next year Drew will be in HS so it will be a little harder but I'm not worried about it.

Forgot to say that yes, we are staying at the Grand again. Even with all of the commotion we experienced this past trip and it wasn't my favorite one we ever had. But the GF is my "home" resort- I love it so much so I'm going to give it a chance to redeem itself. I figured that it was just bc there were so many dang people around I couldn't enjoy it like before.

While I was there I got a 35% BB email and booked from my balcony overlooking the marina the last day before we checked out. Best call I've ever had with a CM.:thumbsup2

However, On Thursday of this week I got 2 Pincodes thru snail mail for 35% off deluxes!! :confused3
I thought I was doing good with my BB-- I was terrified there wouldn't be a good pincode or GP discount. sigh. Oh well. We are booked!:yay:

Okay - now I'm hungry for cracker thingy-s and dip.

I didn't know you were from Charleston - we'd like to try to get there. But our trip is fairly short. I think we won't get to HH until Monday (dang dance competition that weekend) and then we leave on Friday to Asheville and home. So maybe. We're going to Savannah for sure.

You have one going to college already? WOW! I always have pulled kids out without a second thought. They are good students, get their work done and have met with little resistance from the teachers. Of course I get the "official" feedback about 5 days being the max, but whatever. I know my kids better than the school administration does.

What a great deal for 35% off! I'd like to get that for Poly. Or 40% would be better, but they don't do that one much anymore. I don't get pins anymore, I wonder if it's b/c they know we're DVC members? I'd still like to stay at Poly sometime. I'll wait on GF until the DVC opens up there.

If you decide to stop in, just let me know and I'll try to help you out. Will you go to the Biltmore in Asheville?? Haven't been there in ages but it's wonderful.

Oh yes-- my MC is heading to college in the Fall. She is all  and I'm all :worried:

I come from a long line of parent puller out-ers for the kids school. Growing up my mom sometimes would wake me up and say- instead of going to school let's just go to Myrtle Beach. It happened a lot actually. One year I missed 40-ish days of school.

Yeah, we're going to see the Biltmore, but also my college roomie lives there so we're going to visit with her a day too.

I will definitely ask about Charleston as we get a little closer. (I don't want to lose the info!) There is another DISer, who goes by CharlestonPrincess on the boards who also grew up there and has lots of info I've seen in other TRs and threads. She lives near Atlanta now.
If it's so great, why'd you all leave? JK! I'd love to see it. Can it be a day trip from HH? We'll have to just hit some highlights.

Oh yeah, still can't believe MC is off to college this year. :faint: Makes me sad and she's not even mine!!

Still haven't gotten to Charleston....maybe one of these days...

And lastly -- I think I am done with taking my kids out of school for trips. :sad2: We are allowed up to 10 days and the school is fine with it, but they only missed 5 days and DS13 had a heck of a time getting caught up. Next year he will be starting HS and DS11 will be starting MS. :( So it may be summer trips to WDW from here on out. Which is fine I guess, we always have that last week in August when almost everyone else is already back to school and we can vacation!! :cool1: But dang it -- what if I want to go 2X a year??? :confused3

Good Morning!

The sun is shining here, Migraine is finally gone. Need to move on to planning the September trip, not much time left to do it. pixiedust:

:joker:

Okay um let's see---
Sheree, those things are called Cracker Stick Thingy-s. Yes that's the real term for them, given to them by me. ::yes:: IDK what they really are called but Mark loves the heck out of them with dip, so I'm always asking him if he wants more Cracker Stick Thingy's.

So glad that nasty migraine is gone!!

How's the Sept planning coming along? popcorn::

Yeah, we're going to see the Biltmore, but also my college roomie lives there so we're going to visit with her a day too.

I will definitely ask about Charleston as we get a little closer. (I don't want to lose the info!) There is another DISer, who goes by CharlestonPrincess on the boards who also grew up there and has lots of info I've seen in other TRs and threads. She lives near Atlanta now.
If it's so great, why'd you all leave? JK! I'd love to see it. Can it be a day trip from HH? We'll have to just hit some highlights.

Biltmore is beautiful!!! You will love it. Make sure to get some of the wine at the winery. ::yes::
Had to move from CHS and follow Mark around the country with his job. He's in consumer packaged goods-- and there's nothing in SC for us. Unfortunately.

Your mom sounds absolutely fabulous! :goodvibes

She was fab, before she became a grouchy stick in the mud old lady.:lmao:

We have good friends that moved to SC a few yrs. ago when we went to visit they took us to Charleston for the day. It is BEAUTIFUL there!!
It almost made me want to move.

So glad you loved it there! It is my favorite place--- Did you know it was voted #1 city in the WORLD by Conde Nast this year? http://www.cntraveler.com/readers-choice-awards/top-cities-in-the-world-charleston-cape-town-bangkok-vancouver-photos#slide=1

Shocking honestly even though I love my home.

We had not done AK on our last trip at all. We gave that day up for an off-site trip to LegoLand! And the trip before that only DS13 and I went for a little bit. So it had been awhile since we had spent much time at AK.

The GF was the last stop going to AK. But we had to stop at Blizzard Beach on the way. I'm not sure how long it took to get there, but it was not a quick trip by any means. But eventually we made our way there!

First up was Dinosaur! The wait time said 20 minutes, but I don't think we waited quite that long.

The ride was awesome as always, but check out the dude in front of us in the pic. He had his camera out the entire time and was taking pictures with the FLASH ON!! The entire time. He even was turned around trying to take pics and snapped several right in my face. :furious: I kept yelling NO flash photography!! Plus Dinosaur isn't exactly a ride you can get pics in anyway. Too fast and jerky. What an idiot!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012038_zpsc5097afe.jpg

Yeah, that's what he did the whole way through the ride. :sad2: When we got off the ride and saw that picture I said VERY loudly look at that guy taking pics and ruining the ride for everyone!! And I looked right at him when I said it. Unfortunately I don't think he spoke any English.

So we moved on....DS13 and I wanted to go ride EE next, so we headed that way and DH & DS11 stayed behind and said they would meet up with us over there in a bit.

On our way to EE...

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012040_zps8fcea88b.jpg

The stand-by line said 30 minutes. We didn't feel like waiting it out, so we went to the single rider line. There were only a few people waiting in that line and we were onto the ride in less than a few minutes! We ended up on the same train and as we were waiting I noticed I was with a lady who appeared to be by herself. I asked her if she was alone and she said she was and that she had gone through the single rider line as well. Not sure how her and I ended up riding together. DS was going to be a few seats ahead of her and I asked her if she would mind switching with him, and she was happy to! So DS and I had waited about 2-3 minutes and were getting to ride together!!

Then we met back up with DH & DS11 and went on a walk, heading towards the Safari. Didn't really see or do much along the way. Just took our time and looked around a bit...

Arriving Friday now.:hyper: On Saturday M and D will go to the FL game and Belle and I are gonna stay at the resort!!:cool1: I'm taking her to the castle for an early Breakfast and then we will play at the MK until we get tired then back to the pool or whatever.

Besides-- BTMRR in DL is down now for 10 months. You won't get to ride it and we know how much your DS11 loves it. No reason to go there now.

Having not been in a long time - how did you find the crowds that time of year? I'm guessing they were less after about 1/3?
Wifi seems spotty in the resorts from what I've heard.

DVC - Best thing we ever did! Wish I could have afforded to do it sooner!! Be sure to consider buying resale as well as direct from Disney. It's cheaper, but limited in some ways.

Yep, the first few days were quite crowded. Many lines. After that, it thinned out considerably. From what we heard, the week before was unbearable. The Toy Story line at DHS was up to three hours long. :(. Glad we missed that. Loved the ride though when we did it on the 7th. :)

I called the wifi support people and they fixed it for one night. I was told that the wifi modems were planted in every other room (ours didn't have one). The next few days the wifi was inadequate. I called them back but they told me there was no record of my first call. Anyway, that was the only downside of the trip...other than my older sister (60 years old) complaining of all the walking we did.

One day we logged 12 miles according to my wife's "Up" wristband.

When I left off DS13 and I had just gotten done on EE and we had met up with the rest of the family and were headed to the safari. Wait time was 20 minutes. Not bad!

We hadn't done the safari in several years. It is a bit different now, without Little Red and the whole poaching thing.

After we were done there we headed towards Camp Minnie Mickey. We had some time to kill before we needed to find a spot for Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade, which was the main reason I wanted to go to AK.

So we stopped and looked at the fish for a few minutes.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012069_zpsa4a500b2.jpg

Got over to Camp Minnie Mickey and most of the character lines were pretty long. Poor Donald had the shortest line, so we hopped in. Waited about 15 minutes or so.

When we were done there we grabbed some ice cream cones for the kids. And while in line some woman cut right in front of me & the kids and took the cones I had ordered and paid for!! :furious: She didn't understand that you ordered at one window and picked up at another. She just went up and the CM asked what she had ordered and she said 2 swirls and he gave her ours! :faint: I was trying to tell her and so were some other people, but she apparently didn't speak English either. :sad2: So then she had to go back to the other window and pay. What a mess. And the service there was so very super slow to begin with!! :(

But eventually the kids got their cones and all was well with the world again.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012086_zps2200e546.jpg

Then we headed over and got a spot for the parade and made a few calls home to let everyone know we had made it to Florida and were already off enjoying the parks!

While we were waiting I got a text from WDW saying our room was ready. Room 6315. I thought that sounded somewhat familiar....I texted Jodi to tell her our room number and asked if that was near their room and she said YES RIGHT NEXT DOOR!!! :yay:

Oh my word! That exact same ice cream incident happened to us at Magic Kingdom once. A foreign family started taking ice cream that did not belong to them. It's so rude! :rolleyes2

I have never sat and watched the AK parade. It looks really cute Shelly! That Pocahontas is very pretty. :goodvibes

Isn't that crazy??? :faint: People were really irritating me at AK that day! :headache:

We had seen the AK parade once before. It's pretty nice, but definitely not a must-do each time. We wanted to see it this time since they change it up a bit for Christmas.

Oh yes, DS13 thought Pocahontas was very pretty! ::yes::

To quote Stephanie Tanner......"How RUDE!!" What is it with people? :headache: And I just don't know how much you can excuse people for the sole reason that they are foreigners. I think some of them may use that to get away with stuff like that. :sad2: Do I sound a little cynical? :guilty:

I've never seen the AK parade either. You got some really good pics! It looked cute, but I agree that it wouldn't be on my list every trip.

Such a cute pic of your DS with Pocahontas! She was very pretty and Pocahontassy. :teeth:

 Well there's a new word - Pocahontassy!! :rotfl:

I know what you mean, you have to wonder how much of it is a language barrier and how much of it is just plain being rude!! We came across more rude people this trip than ever before I think. People just have no sense of personal space. :headache:

Yeah, the parade was cute. But I'm good now for about 5 years.

So glad I found your TR! We stayed at GF late August for our first (and last:( ) time...it was so wonderful! But we got an amazing deal. Can't wait to see more of your room and views and grounds.

I saw you have gone in Nov. before....which week? We are deciding between the middle...week before Thanksgiving...or week after which would actually be the first week of December. Thoughts?

Hi!! So glad you are here! :cool1:

Lots of GF pics coming up! :thumbsup2

We have gone in November twice, the second week both times. The first time it was warm and not too crowded. The following year the same week it was cold and a lot more crowded, but not terrible. I have a friend who was there the following week (week before Thanksgiving) and said it wasn't crowded at all until towards the end of her week, closer to the weekend.

Hope that helps some! :goodvibes

Fun AK morning! My biggest Disney pet peeve is FLASH pictures on dark rides! :furious: So annoying!!!

Funny/crazy ice cream story!

I wish we had seen that parade when we were there in Nov 2011. They announced the dates after we'd made all of our plans so we were at AK the day before it started. Could have rearranged but it would have messed some things up. Oh well... maybe another time. :confused3

Hi Shelly!:goodvibes Finally had time to catch up with your TR!

I can't stand when people take flash photography on rides...that guy on Dinosaur sounds ridiculous! The ice cream incident sounds crazy too...we actually had a similar incident on our last trip. I was standing in a long line (gotta love Christmas week!) just to get a Diet Coke at a stand in HS. A woman literally cut right in front of me as I was about to order. The CM noticed, and she looked at me, as if to say "sorry" and told the woman who cut in front where the line was. Well, that woman was very rude and said all she wanted was a Mickey Bar.:confused3 Which is what half of the line of people were waiting for. She clearly didn't get the concept of a line! :rotfl: Anyways, the CM profusely apologized to me (it really wasn't that big of a deal) and gave me a Diet Coke and a water for free. It was greatly appreciated by me and was a very nice gesture.

We have never seen the AK parade either! We are always at AK in the morning and are gone by 1:00 or 2:00, so we always miss it. It looks cute though!:thumbsup2

Hmm...I'm thinking that is a great way to save on snack credits - just pretend I don't speak English at every snack cart and just take everyone else's! Only kidding, of course ;)

I have actually seen the parade at AK once a few years ago, DH doesn't care for it at all and we always seem to ready to leave AK around 2pm, in fact I don't think we have ever done a full day there.

I love your DS's interest in Pochahontas, I seem to remember that exact same one catching my husbands eye last trip!!

Unfortunately we don't really know much more than we did before. Very frustrating!

He went to Fulton's Crab House for dinner last night and shopping in DTD. I was so jealous!!! He better have gotten me something GOOD!!! LOL

He'll be home tonight. He's having lunch with the boss today so maybe he'll get some more info. Like the timeframe of when the decision will be made. That would be nice to know.... ya think???!!!!

I've seen the parade!!!! I didn't get to see the Christmas time one, but we didn't go to AK on that short trip. It's a fun parade, I like how the puppeteers are so active and the people/characters are so interactive. The music is good too! I have it on my 4 parks one world CD I think. I know I have the Christmas one on another holiday CD.

I honestly don't remember, but I think we saw it on our March 2011 trip, but not this last one in October. Too soon again maybe?

Love the DS and Pocahontas pic!! Atta Boy!

I've seen the parade!!!! I didn't get to see the Christmas time one, but we didn't go to AK on that short trip. Finally someone who has seen the parade!! :yay: It is cute and you are right -- the CM's and characters are very interactive. ::yes::

Too soon - yeah, probably. But that's just my opinion! :rotfl:

That is awesome!! :cool1: Wow that was a LONG interview!! :faint: Holy cow!

I sure hope it all works out for him. I bet you are super jealous that he is down there!! ::yes:: I would be!

Yeah a little jealous. He just texted me a pic to guess where they are. He's at Bubba Gump Shrimp at Universal. I guess he is enjoying torturing me. lol

They're having a drink at that Jimmy Buffet bar right now!!! UGH!!! I hate him right now.

As soon as the AK parade was over we headed out to the bus stop. It wasn't long until a bus pulled up. Too bad it was a bus for the CR, Poly, and the GF. Not to mention a stop at Blizzard Beach in there. :faint: Good grief I think we were on that bus forever.

When we got back to the GF it was already after 5:00 and the SL lounge was serving their evening appetizers. So we went up to the room to get washed up a bit before heading back downstairs to get something to eat. But, our first set of room keys didn't work. So back downstairs we headed to tell them and get a new set. They said this had been happening and was a computer glitch. :confused3 The second set worked and we peeked in our room and saw that our checked luggage was already there, washed our hands, and headed back downstairs.

There was even a little welcome chocolate ~

After we got all unpacked and settled we decided to go outside and take a look around.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012137_zps5f6e8e33.jpg

We could see there was a big movie screen set up and something going on right outside the construction walls that surrounded the courtyard pool, so the kids had to hurry over and see what was going on!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012138_zpsbf5bbe77.jpg

The CM's came over and told them that from 6-7 every night was Mario Cart and Pin Trading. And at 7:00 they would be showing a movie. It was just now right about 7:00, so they had missed the Mario Cart, but they let them do some pin trading before they took the board down.

The kids weren't too interested in the movie they were showing, so we headed on. They wanted to be sure to be back there for Mario Cart the next night though!!

Next we headed into the main lobby to get a better look at the Gingerbread House and the decorations in there!

Ahhh, the GF! It is the most beautiful place ever, and your pictures have me all nostalgic lol I don't remember us having to share buses with Poly and CR, is this new? I think there were a few times that we shared with WL, but that was it.

It is a beautiful resort. :goodvibes

We always shared with the Poly. And sometimes the CR was thrown in there too. Crazy! I don't remember going to the WL, other than on the ME bus. But then we only stayed at the GF for a few days...

I can't help it-- I love the Grand so much still, even with all the ugliness they've thrown at it these days.

Your view looks eerily familiar. :lmao: Such a great spot I think. I love to sit out there and hear the train whistle and see the monorail go by. So nice.

IDK what the heck was up with the bus ride that we took that one night from the MK (monorail was down, boats had a huuuuuuuuuuuge behind line)-- but it took us over an hour and a half to wait for a bus (took forever!!!), get loaded onto the bus after they let all the scooters on, go to the CR, go to the parking lot in the TTC, we left out of there and then circled back thru to another stopping point in the same parking lot about 5 feet from the original stopping point-- what the heck?-- and then to the Poly where we had dinner reservations.

It was sincerely ridiculous and it was my last time ever being on a bus in WDW. Next time I don't care --- I'll swim it before I ride another bus. They had so many people crammed on there that people had to get off of the bus in order to let people off and then get back on. I've never seen anything like it.:faint: Stupid doesn't even begin to explain it and I wish you could have seen my In laws faces!:rotfl: It was hysterical. Drew had a man's butt and backpack in his face and practically had to sit in my lap to get away from it. OMG, it was awful. Sorry for the rant---- I have PTSD from it every time someone mentions bus. People were yelling and screaming at the Bus driver. I thought it was going to turn into a riot it was so bad.

Anyway---- so Sunday night was sushi night!!:lmao: Mark was wondering why he didn't get any. Will have to remember that for next time.
Was that the same night as uncrustables?? Thought I remembered you saying the kids had them on that night.

Last but not least-- I love seeing the castle past the boat dock like in that one pic you have of it. First time we stayed there and got in around 1 am we walked outside of the Main bldg to go to SL and saw that and we all just stood there in awe. So pretty.

Great update!:lovestruc

I agree- the bus rides (especially from Animal Kingdom and DTD) seem to take forever at the GF! We gave up on the buses on our Christmas trip and ended up taking taxis a lot. Costly, but worth it because we got places much quicker!

It looks like you got a lovely room with a great view! We were not so lucky in November- we had a view of the lovely construction! Oh well, at least we were not in the room much!

Love that family picture in front of the tree! I cannot believe that we did not get a family picture in front of the tree ourselves! It would have been a nice Christmas card.

Looking forward to reading more!

OMG why don't you tell us how you really feel about the buses??? :faint: :rotfl2:

It really truly isn't usually that bad. I can't believe it took you that long to get from MK to the Poly. I guess they aren't really prepared for the buses to take that route. Good grief.

Between the AK trip and the trip back from DTD and one very bad trip back to the Poly from DHS, we had enough of the buses this time!! :furious: Ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the same night they had the uncrustables. See -- you should have had your behind at the GF with us instead of at the party!!! :upsidedow

That is a nice view of the castle at night right there, between the buildings and past the boat dock.

We ended up taking a cab one night on the way back from DTD. But we didn't have such a good experience. Our driver took the long way around and drove super slow, as we watched the meter go up and up and up. It was ridiculous. I don't think we made it back much faster than the bus. :sad2:

I remember you getting that construction view. That stinks. :( Good thing you were busy that trip and weren't in the room a lot.

Thanks! :)

It was bad. I swear I've never been thru anything like it before.:confused3

Maybe if I hadn't been trying to just get to the Poly from the MK it wouldn't have been so bad, but when we circled back thru the parking lot and people started screaming at the top of their lungs at the bus driver------ it was awful. I was a bit scared.:lmao:

There was a family on there that missed an ADR at the GF because of how long it took. I'm pretty sure they ended up with something free-- they were quite vocal about their displeasure.:rolleyes2
I'm sure it was just that the monorail was down and it was a party night in the MK and they didn't have the buses to pick up all the extra people. :faint:

OMG so I just looked back at our text conversation ab the busses.:scared1::rotfl2: So funny!

And as far as being at the resort instead of the dang party..... yeah should've listened to your experience with it. Don't even get me started on how I feel about that waste of time and money.

Honestly I think sharing a bus when you are staying at a nice deluxe, is kind of lame.

Your GF room is very pretty though! I like the view that you had. :goodvibes

Question for you Shelly. When is your favorite summer or holiday time to visit? I'm trying to mentally plan our next trip. Morghan will also be a freshman next year so the less school missed, the better.

It is lame. Beyond lame. You seriously get better bus service at the moderates than you do at the deluxes. Using CBR as an example, because it has the most internal stops - 7 if I remember correctly. It takes about 7-8 minutes to make all those stops within the resort before heading out onto the highway. The stops are literally seconds apart. I remember being at the Jamaica stop and being able to see the Aruba stop! So, within 10 minutes you are on your way. Not to mention that it is probably the most centrally located resort, so getting to the parks takes no time at all! The deluxes on the other hand -- it takes a lot of time to go from one resort to another when you have to go out of the parking lot and out onto the road and then into another parking lot. Crazy. :crazy2: It can be over 30 minutes before you are even on your way. :faint:

Guess I'm a real peach today too! :lmao::rotfl:

Okay, well anyway -- the last week of August is the best time to go ever!!! But your kids might be back in school by then....:confused3 If they happen not to be you have a definitely advantage and should go then!! ::yes::

I haven't really been during any other school breaks.

Great update Shelly! :thumbsup2 Your room looks really pretty, and the view is beautiful! I would love to wake up in the morning, step outside onto the balcony and take in that view!

Great picture of your family in front of the tree! I guess you did go back for a dressed-up pic!

I had to go back and look at the pic that Jodi was talking about. I had totally missed the castle! :confused3 Don't know how I missed that, it's truly beautiful all lit up in the background. :tink:

The Twilight Refreshers look yummy! Too bad that first pic would prove to be the cause of a major headache for y'all. Maybe they should change the way they have alcohol just sitting there - since some people don't know when to call it a night. I have never tried sushi. I don't know anything it, so I guess I'm a little scared of it. What I need is a shushi coach to go with me and tell me what to get......meaning what is cooked and not raw! :scared1: Or if anyone can give me some tips, I'll take them!

You are awesome, thank you!!! CBR is definitely next for us. :thumbsup2 I am going to look into late August for sure. We don't go back until after Labor Day here.

You're welcome! :goodvibes

We are currently booked for the last week of August. But I just found out that DS13 will have Freshmen orientation one day that week....Trying to decide if it's worth it to move our trip up a week so he won't miss that and go the third week of August. I know it will be busier than the last week of August, but how much busier??? :faint: It's always something.

Isn't it awesome? :lovestruc

I'm pretty sure he got lots of pics of me giving him dirty looks!! :rotfl:

Those pics should make for a very funny scrapbook for him! :scared:

 Well there's a new word - Pocahontassy!! :rotfl:

I know what you mean, you have to wonder how much of it is a language barrier and how much of it is just plain being rude!! We came across more rude people this trip than ever before I think. People just have no sense of personal space. :headache:

Yeah, the parade was cute. But I'm good now for about 5 years.
That was our biggest complaint when we went last December. Parade time was the worst. Everyone was so rude. One lady even tried sitting on the foot part of the my kid's stroller as a seat! DH already said next time we go back that we are skipping the parades and I agree.

DS13 and Pocahontas made such a cute couple! :lovestruc

GF pics were gorgeous! I can't believe they gave you two rooms next door to each other! :stir:

Great update!!

I love the apps at CL they looked yummy! I love sushi!

Nice family pic in front of the tree.

Don't get me started on the buses either. We were able to avoid taking a bus the last couple of trips except for going to AK and DTD. DTD took literally FOREVER!!! I hate the buses!!!!

Hey Shelly! I didn't realize that you were in the middle of a TR until I saw it when I was scanning the TR Forum. :cool1: So far, It looks like you guys had a great time overall (hopefully!). That really stinks about the check in fiasco, that is pretty absurd. And it looks like the busses weren't much better this time. I still don't understand why the Deluxe bus situation is still such a nightmare. :rolleyes2

But, that's nice that you got to spend some time with Jo, and really cool that your rooms were so close! So fun!!

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and that I will be reading along too :goodvibes

When we were done checking things out in the lobby we went out to take a look at the beach pool. On the way we passed by the new Alice in Wonderland water play area. It looked nice and like a lot of fun, but I'm just not sure it fits in at the GF.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%201/DisneyDecember2012147_zpsbe4048e6.jpg

There wasn't too much going on there or at the beach pool. Although it had been a very warm day, as soon as the sun went down it cooled off fast.

We thought about grabbing something to eat from the pool bar since we really hadn't had a full meal all day, but we just didn't really see anything that grabbed us and we really weren't that hungry. We were just all getting very tired.

We walked back past the main building and over to the marina side of the Sugarloaf building.

At this point we were all getting very tired. Remember, we had been up since 3:30am. :faint: So we headed back to the room. They had already been in for turndown service.

Everything was very good and we were all full and ready to go to bed. I texted Jodi that we weren't going to make it up to see them when they got back from MVMCP that night because we were going to bed! We made plans to meet up in the morning. Then we were off to bed. Unfortunately where our room was, with the door overlooking the lounge, we got a lot of noise through the night. Plus the refrigerator ran on and off all night and it was very loud. :faint: Can't really say that we got much sleep there.

Up Next: Day 2 and a morning meet up with Jodi and family!

I can't believe you stayed up that long after getting up so early (and I KNOW you didn't sleep the night before the trip!).

The Alice in Wonderland area is not my favorite. Agree it doesn't belong there. Very out of place.

And that water in the Beach Pool looks cold to me!

Looks like someone hit the chocolate covered strawberries really hard.:rolleyes1 The fruit there is always so good- I eat a ton of it. Really nice to have after being in the parks and needing just a bit of something not too heavy before bed.

I hate that your fridge ran all night. I never heard ours at all. :guilty: And I didn't hear too much commotion down below- I think I was just so tired that I fell asleep hard as soon as my head hit the pillow and was out for the count.

Fun update--

Hey Shelly! Remember me? :wave2: It has been nagging at me for weeks now that I've been out of touch with you and I just had to come on here and find out what you've been up to. This is the first time I've even been on the DIS in weeks. I sure have missed it though. There's so many good people on here that I don't get to talk to much anymore.

I was so excited to see that I hadn't missed out on your Christmas TR though! I had really wanted to read about your GF stay! I just read all of what you've posted so far and it looks great! I've never really thought that I would want to stay there, but it is really growing on me. I loved the room you got and especially the balcony!! Sweet! ::yes::

Day 2 – Monday December 10th

After a long night of very little sleep I decided to give it up and got up around 7:30. I started getting ready and then got a text from Jodi that she would be ready soon and we would meet in the lounge. My kids and her kids started texting back and forth and then met up out on the balconies and made some plans to go exploring! Pretty soon they all met up in the lounge for breakfast and then Jodi tested me that she was down there as well.

So I headed out and took a look down from the elevator and there they all were!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012166_zps80294577.jpg

As soon as I got down there they were headed out. They all thought they were so grown up, going out without any adults! We figured they were safe, there were 4 of them, plus Jodi's older DD was out and about keeping an eye on them too. And Jodi and I were going out walking. And the DH's were heading over to the gym.

Jodi and I walked up to the boat dock. The original plan was to watch/listen to the opening show at MK. But it was so foggy and wet that our plan didn't really come to reality. :upsidedow We stood out there and listened anyway. Couldn't sit, everything was wet. Couldn't see, the fog was way too thick. We walked back towards the marina and ran into my DH and he took a pic for us!

Eventually Jodi and I wandered back into the lounge and decided to grab some breakfast. She had a bowl of fruit and I had a cinnamon roll and a few pieces of pineapple.

We were all planning to go to Epcot that day for a little bit. Jodi and family were meeting up with her in-laws, who had just gotten in the night before and they were having lunch at LC. We had no real plans for the day at Epcot, no ADR's or anything. Just hoping to ride the new TT and stay for a few hours or so. Our full Epcot day was planned for later in the week. So Jodi and I decided to head back up to our rooms and freshen up before finding our DH's and kids and heading out for the day. The fog was so thick that morning that it already looked like I had just crawled out of bed and did nothing with my hair. :scared1: I usually don't look that bad until later in the day at WDW!

So I get to my room and DH had just gotten back from the gym. I plug in my curling iron and it's one of the ones that heat up in 30 seconds and I start to attempt to fix my hair and I hear a little poof! I look down and my curling iron has stopped working. :sad2: Yeah, day 2 into the trip. DH looks at it and tries to fix it, but it's too far gone. Great.

So he gets cleaned up and we head to the main building, in search of a curling iron. Knowing full well that it's not very likely that we are going to find one.

We walk into the lobby and this is what we see!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012167_zps69b64560.jpg

Apparently the kids had been in line for the gingerbread house before it even opened and had gotten some goodies already!

The kids didn't seem like they wanted bothered with adults, so we left them to their business! :rotfl:

DH and I searched the GF for a curling iron. The salon was closed. We finally asked at the one gift shop and they said they didn't think we could get one there at all and gave us a business card of a drug store that delivered to the WDW resorts. They said to try them because they would deliver anything they had in their store. And wouldn't you know it – it was the same place that we had written down the day before in-case we ended up needing meds for the kids – Turner Drugs. So we gave them a call and they had a curling iron and could deliver it this afternoon. I think the curling iron was about $9 and delivery was about $11. So for around $20 I could have something to use for the week.

We walked around on the second level of the GF and looked down to the lobby. We could see that the kids were still enjoying their time together!

We went back downstairs and gave our credit card number to the front desk, to pay for the drug store delivery we would be getting later. We walked over to the kids and Jodi & family had just left, so we grabbed our kids and headed to the monorail, to go to Epcot.....But just where would we actually end up?

Oh my gosh THE FOG!!!

Remember that movie when we were, *ahem*, teenagers by that same name? The Fog would come rolling in and people would wind up missing or dead? :lmao:

Yeah, the fog that morning was just as intense. Minus the dead bodies of course.

I don't remember ever seeing it that bad anywhere! It was weird -- we could hear the train whistle, hear the music......... and see nothing past a few feet into the lagoon.:crazy2: Our plans! Our wonderful peaceful plans that were months in the making were dashed.
:(

Well at least the kids had a blast. They were running around the resort like they owned it. :goodvibes So fun for them. And the dang paparazzi pics-- it was too much. So funny!! :rotfl:

I can't believe your curling iron was zapped. Thank goodness you were able to get one from the drug store! What a handy phone # to keep close.

For some reason I guess the electricity on that breaker box was messed up bc later that night- when we got caught in the deluge in Epcot- our shoes were soaked and Tuesday morning I took both of our hairdryers out and had them jammed into Belle's shoes to dry them out-- and POOF!! The circuit blew and we had no electricity in the bathroom. My apologies to anyone that may have had an issue that morning. We called immediately to have it fixed, though-- please don't be mad!:rotfl:

Great update! Even if we were sticky and our hair was messy!! It was fun re-living our time togther that morning.

You can tell from the pictures that the kids were enjoying being together and the freedom that came with there being safety in numbers. ;)

I cannot believe the curling iron just died. Ugh! What a pain Shelly! But I'm so glad that you had an alternative. I'd be the same way if my flat iron died. My hair would be a hot mess!

Great update! I love all the photos!

I should have taken a picture of that nasty fog from the boat dock!:faint: That was crazy. But yes, at least there were no dead bodies!!

It was still a fun morning. Not quite what we had planned, but I'm still glad we had the time!

And the kids had an absolute blast! :grouphug: :cool1: They felt so grown up. And yes, acted like they owned the place! :rotfl:

OMG I can't believe the circuit blew from your hairdryers. :crazy2: I never lost power to my bathroom when my curling iron blew, but I did have to press the little button thingy to get power back to that outlet. :confused3 Strange.

Yeah, it was a really good curling iron too. Wait till you see the cheap thing the drug store sent over!! But I still had my flat iron and my steam rollers, so it was all okay. Just inconvenient! :headache:

You are too sweet! I have missed everyone here so much too! I have just had WAY too much on my plate. I will no longer be keeping kids anymore as of next month though and I think that's going to be a big help to me. I'll be broke, but happy. :upsidedow I sure hope I can get back into the swing of things around here. I can't believe they haven't closed my TR yet. Maybe that's my sign that I need to get my fanny over there and finish it!

I hope you and your family have been doing well! I think about all of you guys so often!

Given how things with the last little girl you kept went, I can see why you'd want to stop keeping kids. Sometimes, broke and happy is a lot better than rich and miserable.

Heck yeah, you need to get back to your trip report and start posting again. I'd love to see you again.

Hi Shelly! :wave2: Sorry I've been absent. I've had a lot of stuff on my mind recently and just haven't gotten around to posting.

I love this update! You and Jodi have such precious children. (I'm glad you got at least one unobstructed pic of Belle! ;)) How fun for them to have friends who live many states away........and then get to meet up a couple of times a year at the happiest place on earth! You can tell they were having a blast being on their own to explore without the parents! Especially for the non-teenagers - getting to hang with the big kids!

Too bad the fog changed up your and Jodi's plans. At least y'all got to spend some time without the kids (hey, it works both ways! ;)) And by the way, y'all look like you could be teenagers yourselves!

That is too funny about the curling iron. Well, I don't mean it's funny your curling iron broke. What I meant was that when you talked about how that phone number would come in handy later in the trip, I assumed you meant it would be for medicine for your DS's rash! Of course, a curling iron (or blow dryer for me - good thing they have those in the rooms!) is not something you can do without on vacation. I would spend double for one to be delivered to me, too! Money well spent!

::yes:: Charleston girl, born and raised and then left when Mark and I got married and haven't lived there since. :(

:rotfl:

Still managed to graduate and become a nurse so I suppose it didn't hurt me any.:rolleyes1
So yeah--- I pull my kids out for trips often. ::yes::

HI! I've been lurking here, but I just have to say YAY to parents who take their kids out of school!! We do too.....but this will probably be the last time we do it as our oldest DS will start highschool in 2014. BUT ...since this is our last trip - we decided to stay the one place we always wanted to stay...the POLY! I notice you are going around the same time...we check in on the 18th. Also - Charleston is AWESOME! I have relatives that live on James Island. It's so beautiful down there!!

HI!!:goodvibes

Yay for a trip in September! :cool1:

Looks like we are a couple of weeks apart-- We check in on August 30, and we are staying at the Grand again. We have stayed at the Poly before and really loved our visit there. We were in Fiji-- marina side, 3rd floor and it was a perfect location for us. We could see the boats, the volcano, the Contemporary, and Space Mountain! As good as it was, I truly think the whole Polynesian resort is wonderful and you will have a great time there. But be warned--- it won't be your "Last time". ;)

And there's no safer place for the kids to hang out in my opinion.

Even when DS15 wants to stay at the room or go on a ride by himself, I feel more comfortable at WDW.

On a side note I got flights last night for FL for Feb. vacation. DH and I are going down for a few days to look at condos. I am so excited, I've never been in Feb. it will be a great break from the frigid temps we've been having. I need warmth!!!!

Too bad about the fog - it would have been a fun morning to see the show from there.

Hi Rinky!

The curling iron - that story makes me glad I have really short hair. But I'm happy you were able to find a replacement fairly easily.

Epcot? Maybe? Hmmmmm...

Hi Rinky!

Hello long lost friend! :wave2: I bet you've already made it back across the pond since the last time I was on the DIS. I hope you and your girls are doing well. I didn't even notice if you had a ticker. I need to go back and snoop b/c I know you must have some fabulous trip on the horizon! I think you need to go to Aulani next and give us a full report! ::yes::

Wow, I have missed a lot over the past few days! I have been super busy with work, and we had a party at our house for the Patriots game on Sunday, so I've been swamped! Sorry Shelly!

Off to read now!!

Hey Lauren  I wondered where you had been!!

Just found your report aqnd looking forward to what you say about the time of year as we are going Dec 7-14,2013. I have read your other Tr and I feel like I have watched your boys growing up. Love the tree picture

Welcome! :goodvibes

So glad you are joining us for another TR! Yes, the boys are growing up. Wish I knew how to stop that!!

Overall I would say the second week of December is a good time to go. It's value season, so it's cheaper. It's not terribly crowded. More crowded than our late August trip, but less crowded than the beginning of May. The weather was decent and we got to see tons of Christmas decorations!!

Finally all caught up!:goodvibes

Love all of the pictures of the kids! They look like they were having the best time together! How fun. And you and Jodi look like you were having a great time too!

The fog looks wild! I remember when we were in WDW this past July...since it was so humid, the fog usually didn't burn off until around 11AM during the time we were there. Not good for my hair!:rotfl:

Looking forward to seeing where you ended up that day!

Thanks Lauren! :) Yes, it was a great morning for all of us. ::yes:: So fun!

The fog was crazy. And so was my hair! :scared1: :rotfl:

They really did. They felt so grown up!

Yeah, the fog was kind of a bummer. At least we could still hear the show though!

I'm usually wishing I had short hair when I'm at WDW!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. We felt totally safe letting the kids roam the resort. And they really loved their parent free time! ::yes::

Well that will sure be nice to get away from this nasty cold and go to Florida next month! :goodvibes Will you take the kids? Will you make it to WDW at all? Maybe DTD? :yay:

No we are not taking kids, b/c we'll be looking at condos. We're just going for 3 days.

He got the ok today. Someone's calling later w/ the package details. I can't believe this is actually happening!! I am so nervous and excited.

We will definately get to DTD for dinner and shopping!!

We hopped on the monorail and started making our way to the TTC to change to the Epcot monorail. The monorail stopped at MK and then was on its way to the CR. And I got to thinking......We had missed rope drop by a few hours, we weren't planning to stay too late, the kids wanted to get to swim at the GF before we had to check out the next day, what if the lines at Epcot were huge and the day was wasted, what if it was too cold to swim by the time we got back to the GF, blah, blah, blah.....So I shared my thoughts with the family and they agreed. The kids were worried about not getting to see Jodi's kids if we skipped Epcot this day, but I explained to them that they were spending the day at Epcot with their grandparents and we might not see them much anyway, so they were good with skipping Epcot for swimming. But, it was nearly 11am now and I thought let's just go to DTD for some lunch and shopping for a few hours and then head back to the GF for swimming. By now the monorail was at the TTC. I wasn't sure if you could get a bus to DTD from the TTC or not. I knew you could get park buses there, but wasn't sure about DTD. Well, wouldn't you know it, you can't get a bus to DTD from there. :upsidedow So we walked over to the Poly and waited on a bus.

Once on the bus I decided to call T-Rex and see if we could get in there for lunch. Fat chance since you can never get much with them through the WDW ADR's, right? Yeah, not really the case they got us in within 15 minutes!! Definitely call them directly for ADR's, don't go through Disney!

And pretty soon we were pulling up to the DTD Marketplace! We quickly made our way to T-Rex, stopping for a few pics along the way.

Everything was very good as usual. We usually get dessert here the donut holes with chocolate and caramel dipping sauce, but we decided to pass this time since we could get plenty of snacks/desserts at the CL lounge at the GF.

I agree about calling TREX directly, we did the same thing a couple of years ago after trying and failing to score an ADR through Disney.

Wow, that food looks amazing, could go for that burger right now even though it's after midnight here :)

I didn't realize that was an issue with T-rex. The only ADR I could get with them on our last trip was for almost 9:00 at night. I usually like to eat dinner around 5:00 so that was SUPER late for us. I wish I had known that I could get a better time calling direct. I don't guess it really matters though b/c DD and DH didn't like it at all. We all thought the food was good but they both hated how loud it was in there. And it was PACKED with people! :crowded: It really wasn't a very pleasant experience. I did expect it to be a little loud since we had been to RC before, but the number of people in there was crazy! So I don't think I'll get my family back to either of those restaurants. :upsidedow It is a really cool looking place though and I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. All of your food looks so good! And $50 isn't bad for a TS meal at Disney. Makes me realize that maybe I really could afford to do Disney without my beloved free dining! ::yes::

Oh yes, all you can ever get for dinner at T-Rex (through WDW) is 4pm or 9pm. :faint: We usually end up going at 4, which is too early. We are like you and we like to eat around 5-5:30. Maybe it was so packed because it was so late when you went. IDK. :confused3 It is a little less noisy when it is not as crowded. You should try it for lunch sometime, maybe your family would like it better!

IDK why, but I just wasn't feeling Epcot that day. I was thinking we had missed RD and the kids really wanted to swim, and if we stayed at Epcot for very long it would be too cold to swim when we got back, etc.

It all worked out I guess! :upsidedow

We changed our flights to this weekend. We can only go Sat-Sun. DH doesn't want to take any personal days b/c he's giving his 2 wk. notice tomorrow.

Oh well 2 days in FL is better than no days. :)

The realtor said we can see about 25 condos in 1 day. So maybe we can have a little down time on Sun. before we fly home that night.

Up next was the Lego Store! :upsidedow Usually we spend at least and hour to two hours in here. But I had already warned DS11 that wasn't happening this time!! It was only a few weeks before Christmas and I told him he couldn't buy anything he had put on his Christmas list anyway. So he had decided that he was only getting one set this trip.

We weren't in there too awful long either. We wanted to get back to the GF so the kids would have plenty of time to swim, after-all that was the reason for skipping Epcot that day! :upsidedow Even on the warm days in December it would get chilly as soon as the sun went down.

But before heading back to the Marketplace bus stop we stopped by The Art of Disney. DH has this one coworker that LOVES Disney! Him and his wife go at least once a year. We were even there at the same time as them once and met up for lunch at AK!

They had been there this past July and he noticed something that his wife really liked and he wanted us to pick it up for him so he could give it to her for Christmas! Is that an awesome husband or what?!! Not even sure exactly what we were looking for we headed in...

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012241_zpse589b6d8.jpg

And pretty soon we found it! Well we were pretty sure we had found it. So we took pics and texted them to him and sure enough that was it!

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012242_zps8e68737e.jpg

So cute! I was so happy to have found it right away for him! Well happy until we were at the Orlando airport trying to get through security with it that is.....But that's a story for later in the TR! :rotfl:

They had all kinds of them. Here's a few more.

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad100/Dadof2disneyboys/Disney%20Dec%202012%20-%20Day%202/DisneyDecember2012243_zps6e32128f.jpg

We were even able to get him 10% off because we used our Disney Visa! :cool1:

And with that we headed to the bus stop. I think we waited about 10 minutes or so on a bus, with about 50 other people. :faint: So the bus was packed. And even without a stop at Typhoon Lagoon (it was closed for a refurb) the bus ride was still excruciatingly long. :sad2: Stopped at the West Side at DTD, which took forever. Stopped at the CR, which took even longer than forever , then the Poly, and finally the GF. I told DH that if we went back to DTD on this trip we would be taking a cab!

Look at you, getting into TRex with that phone call! Next thing you know, you'll be telling us you walked up and got in! I don't know if I've ever heard of THAT happening! Your sampler platter looks delicious! I would have probably ordered the same thing. I love having a taste of lots of different things. Whenever we eat out, which is usually seafood, I most always get some type of platter.

Love your DTD pics, especially the boys in front of Mr. Potato Head. They have gotten so big!

We're having crazy January weather, too. No rain, but cloudy and high in the mid 70's.

It looks like it was a nice day in DTD! When we were there over New Year's, that whole area was wall to wall people...oh well, I guess we asked for it!:rotfl: Can't wait to be back there soon!

The Lego store looks like fun...that's good you weren't in there that long this time! We have never been in there. Well, we actually may have been in there once, but the girls had no interest!:rotfl: It looks like a neat store though!:thumbsup2

The bus situation at the GF stinks. I agree with everyone else in saying that I don't know why they don't either just share with the Poly or have their own bus.:confused3 Those bus trips, especially from DTD take FOREVER!

Bummer about your curling iron. I wonder if I should even bother packing mine for June. Might be pointless with all the heat and humidity. :confused3

I enjoyed this one so much too.

Your DTD day was so nice compared to mine. My family has informed me no more DTD bc they were miserable with all the people all "up in they grill".

:rolleyes1

You got some good photo op places there.

Thats great that you had a good excuse to not spend a week in the Lego store this trip.
Good for him- in and out with the quickness. ;)
I'm sure he chose the perfect one to spend his money on too.

Agree with everyone else- the co worker is a great DH and I bet those things are cute in person. Haven't seen one yet myself.

Ready to go back. NOW.popcorn::

Good for DS in the Lego store, well good for you not having to be there 3 hours lol.

Don't let me loose in WoD. I spend hours in there and way to much money!! Kinda like your DS in the Lego store :lmao:

We will definately go shopping in DTD Sat. night after dinner. I still haven't decided where I want to eat yet. I was thinking Il Mulino in the Swalphin. Have you ever tried it there? We ate at Il MUlino in the Trump hotel in Atlantic City. I'm not sure if it's the same but the food is similiar (italian).

I guess I need to decide quick so I can make a reservation. I don't think I'll have a problem with that one though.

I'm not sure of the exact prices of those things. I wish I knew what they were called too! :upsidedow I remember DH's co-worker saying he thought it was around $100, but it was actually less than that. Plus we got 10% off. So it was around $80 I think...

Yeah, the bus situation was bad. :( I wish they would do something about that!!

Okay so it's Bored To Tears Tuesday....

which shan't be confused with a 'FOF', which is really fun yet insane, and can only occur once before any given trip--- meaning every other Friday of the calendar year is a Not-so-Fun Filled Friday.

Tomorrow will be What-shall-I-Do Wednesday, Followed by a There-I-Cleaned-it Thursday.... and then comes the dreaded Not -So-Fun Filled Friday again.

Yes I'm rambling.

Guess I'll go get groceries.
Maybe something there will make me not so bored. A sale in the produce section maybe????

We got snow here last night which made for a very icy drive to work! Not a lot of snow, but just enough to make it slippery.

Shelly- we were originally going to be in a standard room at BWI. For some reason, not sure why, a bunch of deluxes are fully booked for February 9-14 (when we are going). We originally wanted to stay at the Poly again, and last night a Poly standard room opened up ( the resort was fully booked and I had been checking for a room daily) so I grabbed it! So I requested Samoa and a balcony again...hope our requests are granted!!!

Anyone have any idea why that week would be so busy? It's not President's Day week or spring break so I'm confused!!

MARDI GRAS!!! :joker:

Mardi Gras is on Tuesday, Feb. 12 this year. So you are right in the middle of that time period. Schools in south Louisiana are closed (some as little as Monday and Tuesday, others all week) and that's when many people take vacations. And most either go to Disneyworld or skiing.

My trip to the store wasn't near as exciting as I thought it would be. No produce sale and nothing that caught my eye. I even walked s-l-o-w thru the aisles to entertain myself. :rotfl2: IDK what I thought I would find there amongst the cantaloupes and bananas? Not like I was strolling thru Tiffany's or anything. :confused3

Then when I couldn't stay any longer without looking like a stalker freak, I came home and cleaned the fridge out. I'm sure your boys probably told you it was in desperate need of repair the other night. I couldn't cram another thing into it so it all got tossed! :)

Yes, rambling again.
Sorry.

Well, that would be it then!! For some reason I thought Mardi Gras was in March...:confused3
Hope you're feeling better this afternoon Shelly.

Sorry.

Sheila--- hope you get out of that ice soon! The North is too cold. You need to move to FL! ::yes::

Oh heck who am I kidding?
WE ALL NEED TO MOVE TO FLORIDA!!:drive:

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm not feeling all that much better. :confused3

Sorry your grocery store trip wasn't so thrilling. Not even a good produce sale?? :faint: :rotfl:

Well at least you got your frig cleaned out! :thumbsup2 That always makes you feel better!! ::yes::

Looks like it's going to be a long boring week. I hate Jan - Feb - Mar -- cold, long & boring!!! :sad2:

Sometimes Mardi Gras does fall in March. It varies, based on when Easter Sunday is. I think Mardi Gras is always 47 days before Easter. Mardi Gras is supposed to be a good time to go to Disney, unless it falls near President's Day. We did go during Mardi Gras on one of our trips, and I remember it being really nice as far as crowds and weather go.

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm not feeling all that much better. :confused3

Sorry you are still fighting that migraine. :worried: My GF takes a pill called Maxalt (sp?) when she feels a migraine coming on. She usually starts off with half a pill because it is a very expensive drug, even with insurance. Have you ever heard of it?

I know you are sick of the cold, but would you believe we got up to 80 deg. today? That is not bragging, that is complaining! We will have that - and worse - soon enough. Can we please have a little more winter? :( I'd like to live somewhere where there are 4 seasons!

It has actually lightened up a bit this evening. Nope, never heard of that pill...I've never gotten a prescription for the migraines though, an excedrin usually takes care of it.

Actually it was 60 here today. And is going to be again tomorrow! Very warm for January. But of course it is raining like crazy!! :(

I'm ready for a move to Florida!!!! I like snow but the rest of winter is just dreadful. :cold:

:joker:

(Backing away from the espresso now....:surfweb:)
Are you referring to spraying a little pledge or actually cleaning? :lmao: I thought of you yesterday. It was a snow day, my kids were home, none of my daycare kids showed and I was so lazy! About 15 minutes before DH was due home I did a quick de-clutter and turned on my Scentsy candle so it smelled good. :rolleyes1 I'm all out of pledge. He thought I had a productive day. :rotfl:

GURL.
You had a Jo-day!!:rotfl2: Aren't they awesome??pixiedust:

Swear to you it's true.
Yo man will think you cleaned all day if you spray some pledge around and sweep a bit and de clutter for, like, 5 minutes.
When in all reality what you REALLY did was watch Days of our Lives and DIS. Shhh. I'm bad.

Of course, your house has to be somewhat clean for it to work, I can't make promises to ya if you have stuff sticking to the walls from three years ago and junk. :faint:

Okay, Shelly---- you feeling better today?? I'd tell you to drink wine for medicinal purposes but it's a little early yet.
And I think we won't have a boring day today on this What Shall I do Wednesday if you will give us an update.
Just sayin'......

I don't want to have to go to the produce section again bc the young fellas that work in there might think I'm stalking them between the bananas.

Haaaay.

Well, Jodi, it looks like we are the only ones here today. Shelly must be feeling better and maybe working today! Doesn't help our boredom, does it? But I do hope your headache is gone, Shelly! :thumbsup2

I am supposed to be cleaning my house today. I did go for my walk and then a couple of stores (Dillard's extra 30% off) Wal-Mart (why do I do that to myself?) and Target (that's more like it!). But as you can see, I am not cleaning now that I'm home and able to. :guilty:

DH went hunting today and is coming back Friday. That should give me plenty of time to clean at a leisure pace and have plenty of time for the DIS, WWF, and TV.

It is really gloomy here today, and 30 degrees colder than yesterday. Yesterday was 80 and party cloudy, today is 57 and nasty. Crazy weather. I did ask for more winter yesterday, though. So I'm :cool1: with it!

I figured she must be working! ::yes::

No produce at Wal-Mart - don't trust it. I buy most of my produce at a local fruit/vegetable mart. Sometimes Target, but never Wal-Mart. When I feel really wealthy I go to Whole Foods. ;) Needless to say, I'm not there often.

I love wrestling!! My fav is Hulk Hogan. It's so exciting watching those big hunky guys thowing each other around! So you're not a fan?

:rotfl:

:scared1:

WWF = WORDS WITH FRIENDS!!! (online Scrabble - love it!)

You know, I actually thought, "I hope no one thinks I mean wrestling!" :upsidedow
