Like so many others, I am a very picky eater. I hate sauces, etc. Everyone knows to make mine "PLAIN." My question is this: Can I order plain chicken or salmon at Marrakesh? I perused the menu, and everything says Moroccan spices etc.

Absolutely nothing appeals to me here, but I have to go with my DH. For years, he didn't even know it existed. I do all the planning, and never told him because I knew he'd want to go. Well, about two years ago he found out that Morocco had a restaurant and he's been bugging me ever since. We have always been with a group of relatives, so I kept telling him that it would not appeal to the group. Now for the first time in about 20 years, we will be going by ourselves in Feb. No more excuses. I have to go.

I did not care for anything listed under appetizers, so I will pretty much just be having the main course. Since everything says "marinated," would they even have a plain piece of chicken or fish? Any ideas?

It's great. :)
And the food has spices, nothing overpowering. Just very good. It's spiced, but not spicey.
They do an excellant job. :)

I was thinking about a lunch at this place. Do the belly dancers dance at lunch?

We saw the belly dancer at lunch in May (Memorial week). Same gal as last January too.

Maybe if you check with the restaurant ahead of time, they could leave some chicken or fish "unmarinated" for you?

I'm a very adventurous eater, but my husband is a VERY VERY plain eater .. and even *he* likes it here a lot! The spices/tastes are truly not overpowering, and according to him, there's not really "weird stuff" in the food! <g> Also, if you truly cannot find one thing to eat off the regular menu, perhaps they'd let you order off the children's menu?

The food at Marrakesh is very, very bland (i.e. Americanized) compared to even your average Morrocan restaurant. Unless you like your food completely seasonless, it doesn't get much blander than basic chicken kebob or lemon chicken (just hold the olives). We ask for our food 'spiced up' at Marrakesh, and I'm not a fan of overly spicy food myself.

I feel a little better about going there now, thanks to your replies.

RachelEllen, you guessed it, I do not eat olives of any kind.

Love2Roam & imbe, your posts are encouraging. I NEVER even try anything new. I would pretty much starve before I would try something unfamiliar. That's exactly what happened in Scandinavia. I did not like one single thing on dinner menu after dinner menu. Finally my husband convinced me to try PLAIN broiled salmon, and I had that every remaining night of the trip. I wasn't about to eat reindeer or any of the othe stuff I didn't recognize.

DisneyHumbug, we're arriving on Sat and we have a PS for Mon. Do you think if I check on Sun it would be too late to ask them to hold out a piece of salmon?

I guess that would depend on how long they marinate the stuff for. I'd try it anyway - why not?
