We are staying off site, and it's our first trip. MK closes on 1/7 at 6 pm , and the fireworks are at 6:15. Do we have to leave, or can we stay to watch the fireworks from the park? Where is a good place, or if we have to leave, what restaurant nearby would be a good place??

If fireworks are at 6:15, the park will still be open then. The "closing time" just refers to when rides stop running and shops start to close. Generally, everything from the castle back to the main gate remains open (all the shops on Main Street). However, if you want a particular snack other than popcorn to enjoy during fireworks, get it before 6:00 because most food locations stop serving at closing time.

I'm sure others can give you better advice. Don't stand too close to the castle. It obscures the views!

I read somewhere along the line that a good spot is on the ferry heading back to the TTC. If you can board one that leaves shortly before the show, climb to the 2nd level and enjoy. The best part is avoiding the hordes of people jostling to get onto the monorails and ferries _after_ the show.
I remembered this tip last week _after_ fighting through about 20K people to get back to the cars. :)
