I am looking for any past cruisers reviews on "The Mayans Through the Ages" port excursion at Costa Maya.

I am looking for the positives and negatives of the excursion.

I am hoping to show my kids how people live in different parts of the world and life isn't just annual vacations, toys, electronic gadgets etc.

Is the excursion very commercialised for the tourists or a true indication of life today?

Down Under Minnies, I am curious if you went on this excursion. We are considering The Mayans through the Ages for the same reasons you were, and I am wondering how the kids would do. Ours are 10 and 8. Love to know your thoughts!

Did you all take this excursion, The Mayans through the Ages? I'd love to know how it worked for your family.

Bumping this back up - very interested in this for my 11 and 8 yo but have not seen many reviews on it. Thanks!

I'm going to try to bump this up again. I have seen virtually no reviews of this excursion. It sounds like an interesting way to not only just see some of the ruins, but to also get to see how they live today. My 8 and 11 are into history so thought they would enjoy this vs. just the ruins tour.

We took this tour in October of last year so I will try to help. My boys were 16 and14 at the time and I took them out of school to go on the cruise and my oldest son's teacher wanted him to write an essay and they were studying the Mayan's at that time. I remember going to a small town and stopping to look at some furniture that was made there. We went to a house where they had cooked a chicken dinner the way mayans did. We saw their houses and they showed as about making rope. They had a tree that they used for meds. The guide knew a lot about the mayans but it was boring. Deanna

I don't know about that particular excursion. We did a private tour of Chaccoben when we were there. It's of of the few "educational" things my kids remember from our many cruises. The site is amazing.

I apologize if you are referring to another temple site. Been off of the boards for too long.

We'd love info on this one too! It's on the top of my DS's lists of excursions!

The private tours were run by Ivan and David (2 guys who grew up at the ruins). I will try to search our old thread and see what happens.

Looks like Ivan started an official business "Native Tours" or something like that. It is not a Disney excursion but the driver and tour guide kept careful eye on the time so we didn't miss the ship.
