My dh and ds (9 yo) love egg-nog but it's so expensive to buy! I was curious if anyone has any easy directions for non-alcoholic egg-nog that will hopefully help my budget this Christmas season!?! I'm going to go broke at the rate they go through the stuff, even when we dilute it half milk, half egg-nog!

Thanks!!!

Here is what I found...
12 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 quart cream
to taste vanilla
dash of nutmeg
Seperate eggs at room temp. Beat yolks till creamed with about half of sugar, whites till peaked then add other half of sugar. Beat cream till stiff. Then fold all together. Add vanilla to taste - but remember that a little bit of vanilla goes a long way.
Place into containers keep in refrigerator for at least one day. Shake before serving.
I saw a recipe for egg nog french toast. If only I could find it!!

This is not something I make. I usually just bite the bullet & buy it rather than worry about the kids consuming raw eggs. (The bought stuff is pasteurized & I figure it's safer.) However, I have an old recipe that we used to make when I was young.
Eggnog
4 eggs
4 c milk
4 Tbl lemon juice or diluted vinegar
1/2 c cream
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
1/3 c sugar
Beat eggs until thick & lemon colored. Add sugar, nutmeg & lemon juice. Add ice-cold milk & cream. Beat with a rotary beater until frothy. Yield: 6 large glasses
Betty Crocker’s recipe makes about the same amount & calls for:
1 c golden rum or
1 - 2 Tbl rum flavoring
