We were at the dollar store picking up our cheap ponchos, when my oldest daughter saw those Gel-type window clings. They are really cute, with a tropical theme, and she asked, "Can we use these on our door?"

I told her, "I don't know. I don't think so." So she said, "Ask the people on the board!" LOL! She is sharp! :worship:

So, can we use those? They don't leave sticky residue like tape does, and they aren't permanent, and the only time we've had trouble peeling them off was if we left them on too long over the summer time. This is an eight-night cruise, and I'm guessing they would peel right off with no problem.

What do you all think? Maybe the admin can answer this one? I don't recall seeing gel clings in the "do not stick this to your door" FAQ section, but maybe I just skipped over it somehow.

I don't see why you couldn't use them on the door to the stateroom. We've used clings like these inside our stateroom. On the walls (traditional clings, not gel-type on walls) & on the mirrors & on the verandah glass doors (traditional as well as gel-type on mirrors & verandah doors). Never had an issue removing them from any of the places we adhered them to for our cruise.

I'd take them and do a trial run on the stateroom door. If you're worried they will leave a residue, then take them and put them on the various mirrors in your stateroom.

HTHs! :thumbsup2 & Happy sailing! :sail:

Maybe you could attach them to a magnet so the magnet is the thing touching the door??

Do they have any die in them? We were just on the Magic and I noticed there was faded red stains from something that was stuck to the door by a previous occupant. It was words and a heart shape.

I could be wrong, but I thought that it has been said before that DCL doesn't want you to use anything other than magnets. Maybe that's the only thing I remember and you can use something else. I personally wouldn't take the chance with the clings.

MJI had some gel window clings that left color on our white fridge when I took them off. Definitely do not put them on the cabin door.

Those Gel clings stain surfaces, I would not use them on the cruise.

I was going to point out that the dye in the gel can stain. I read a report of some people who used them in their room on a Christmas cruise last year (not DCL) and when they took them down, the walls were badly stained. They were charged for fixing it.

They didn't stain the mirrors and windows when we used them on DCL. So yes, maybe avoid putting them on the stateroom door after all, but if you want to decorate your mirror (and windows if you have that kind of stateroom), I think it'd be OK.

Like I stated above, we used regular old Disney clings on our stateroom walls, mirrors & windows (too) before on various cruises and they worked like a charm. :thumbsup2

Those things are meant for windows (Glass only). They are not meant to be stuck on painted surfaces. It usually says so right on the packaging.

I would agree, do NOT use them. We had some years ago my dd put on her window and along the window frame. Ruined her white window frames and left stains that do NOT come off.

I quit buying them, period.

Also, if the window gets quite hot the gel clings can melt and leave a mess. DD had some on her bedroom window that melted into a sticky goo.....

Unfortunately, gel window clings will stain white painted doors.

There have been stories about them being used and staining the doors, so I don't think I'd take a chance on using them.

Thank you for all the great responses! That's what I was afraid of, but I wanted to ask just to be sure. We might still bring them and stick them on the mirrors, and we do have a verandah, but I'm not sure I want to put them in the sunlight. Ours got hot and turned gooey at home also! :rolleyes1

I have just hours left to figure out the magnets. At this point, I'm not sure I have the time to even try. I'm very excited to be leaving on Friday, but I swear the time flew by. Where did the last week go?!

Thank you again for all the great responses. You all rock! :worship:

Well the easiest thing for the magnets is to print out all the pictures you want and buy magnets squares with the tape on the back voila!!! Enjoy your cruise!

Personally, I would just eliminate any risk by leaving the gel window clings at home. It would be awful if one stained some of your clothing, either in your suitcase or in your cabin.

Hi - i just read your post about the gel cling that left a stain on your fridge. We just put some up about 2 weeks ago and noticed that they have stained my BRAND NEW white fridge pink (the clings were intense red). I tried fantastick and majic eraser but it isn't fading even a little. Did you ever get the stain off and how? PLEASE HELP ME! LOL :furious:

No, I never got the color off my fridge, but luckily it was really old and we ended up replacing it when the ice maker broke. Try calling the fridge company and seeing if they have any ideas. Good luck.

Those things should be banned. My son had some on his window in his bedroom and took them off and put one on his wood dresser. The only way the stain will come off is if the top of the dresser is refinished. Can't imagine how much stuff these awful things have damaged.
