View Full Version : did DVC do right?

This cruise would have been the very first time we ever used DVC points since joining last Nov. Not only are we not getting free transportation to WDW from the airport, we're not getting food vouchers! A fellow cruisers who booked on cash is getting both! Why arent we treated equal? DVC just got over $9,000 from us in the past year!
OK maybe they did do right - but we just need to wait 2yrs to benefit - we are offered 1/2 price off our next cruise! gotta remember that! next time i book a verandah for the price of an inside room! it will sure seem nice then but for now it will be more difficult on the wallet

the non DVCers are being given the value of what they purchased -- an all inclusive vacation.
are you getting back all the points you put to towards the cruise to use at WDW? then you're getting full value of your refund. it would be a courtesy for them to give you other perks, but not required.

You bought into DVC,not the Disney Cruise line. While both Disney, they are seperate entities.Should have rented out your points and used the cash from that for the cruise.

yes i did get back all our points with no penalty
but why would cash cruisers get the perks but not the point cruisers?
and you know, im really too tired to fight, so i guess im gonna let it go

then you got a full and complete refund. no reason to complain. enjoy your vacation.

But the cash cruisers are not receiving a perk. They are receiving what they paid for. A trip including meals.
The cost of your trip was your points which is being refunded to you. If they had not been refunded then I think you have every right to receive meal vouchers as well.
Now if it happens that the cash cruisers received a full refund of their cruise and are getting the meals on top of that, I think you have every right to complain and should do so.

I disagree RM. Cash cruisers are getting a perk. They're getting a full refund (money they paid that included meals.....which they are getting back) AND they're getting meal vouchers.
However............this late in the game I don't think it is worth stressing over. Just deal with it be glad for whaty ou have. If you wish to persue it do so realizing that you may not get what you want and don't be bitter or upset over it or let it ruin your vacation!!!!!
But yes if you want to call and complain by all means do so.

I can see a reason to treat the cash customers differently. DVC owners are going to come back to Disney regardless. cash customers might not.

exactly
Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllo, not only did you get a FULL REFUND of your DVC points, but you ALSO were generously provided with a 1/2 off voucher for your next cruise; the voucher alone could save you several thousand dollars, depending upon your accomodations and length of cruise. DISNEY didn't HAVE TO give you anything more than a refund.
Perhaps you should count your blessings. :D :) :D :D :D

Nik, I did say that if the cash cruisers were getting a refund and meal vouchers then IGTD would have grounds to complain and should do so. Don't know if you saw that part
Nikole

Eros I don't think that she is saying that. I think she was satisfied with that outcoming BUT can't figure out why others have received vouchers.
If you pay for a concert and it gets cancelled and everyone gets a refund but the guy next to you gets backstage passes for the next time around..... wouldn't you be wanting to see if you could obtain the same thing?
Songbird.....yeah they might be guaranteed to come back but IMO they should treat the DVCers at least as well as other guests. :)
Either way bottom line is go and have fun and dont' stress about it.
And Rm you're right ;) so in this case I agree with you.....not too unusual :)

I tend to think IGTD is right, she paid for the cruise using her points, she wasn't going to have to pay for all of her meals on the cruise. She paid cash for those points, they weren't free. The cash cruisers are getting refunded, plus meals. Now IGTD is going to have to pay for all of her meals at WDW but the people who paid cash get vouchers. That doesn't seem fair to me.

It is probably something to do with the separation of the DCL and DVC. If DVC is refunding the points and DCL is dealing with the cash customers that is probably the difference. Have you tried talking to DCL about the food vouchers & transportation?

I can see why imgoingto... is upset. If I'd shelled out $9,000 in one year and then did not get the same "perks" as a cash cruiser, then why the heck join DVC? I always thought DVCers were treated BETTER than everyone else.

11-27-2002, 10:12 PM
That's a very good idea janette.
Really IGTD I would not let this slide. I would call DCL and DVC and start going up the chain of supervisors on this. Really....don't take this lying down.

Agreed RM take phone numbers make phone calls (a tad difficult since she leaves tomorrow.)
BUT.......again a few vouchers aren't worth ruining your entire trip over!!!!!!! Do what you can now and then revisit the issue when you get home. That's just my opinion.

If you are going to wait until you get home, save all of your food receipts, I think you are getting the shaft.
BTW, did you get this information from DCL or DVC?
ripleysmom

Actually I went to the DCL board and I think TChrist's post on this thread is where IGTD is getting her info.....

It looks to me like this person is still taking their trip with a few changes to their plans and may not be receiving a refund.
I would definitely check on whether other cash cruisers are getting the same thing before complaining.

Are the ca$h customers getting the 1/2 off voucher??
If they are not then I think you were compestated, just in a different way.
If they are getting the 1/2 voucher and food vouchers and whatever other compenstation then I would call and complain.
Nikole

Of course you should do your homework before you complain. *No one was suggesting otherwise Eros* ;) IF they are receiving different compensation for no apparent reason then you have every right to question it. If not then oh well such is life.

It really is a good deal to get all the points back and a 50% voucher. You'll be able to take some nice vacations at WDW with the points. :)
If the food vouchers and transportation weren't part of the standard package given to cash customers than it might be hard to get that. I'd still call and try but don't get upset if they say no, sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease and you might not have to squeak too much in this situation.
It's not worth souring your vacation.

From what I read on the cruise board the person getting the vouchers exchanged the 7 day cruise for a 7 day land/cruise vacation. They are doing the 4 day Wonder cruise and 3 days at WDW. The transportation and vouchers were probably added to make the vacation equal to what they were getting on the 7 day.
Others who were on the cancelled cruise and got full refunds got just that - a full refund with no extra perks. Even though they booked the 4-day Wonder as well they kept it as a separate vacation and aren't getting anything else.
So IGTD got the same as the person getting a full refund - she got the full refund of her DVC points. Seems fair to me. How she chooses to use them it totally up to her.
All of the above get the 50% discount off of a future cruise.
In my opinion DCL is being more than fair and DVC did right by giving back the full refund in points.
I think that it's time to let the HEH CLUB take care of DCL.............. we need................JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!:) :) :) :)
I'd hang DCL first and get the facts later.

Eros aren't you the one being a bit judgemental this time ;) After all no one even suggested that! AND if Mary is correct then......there's no reason that IGTD shouldn't be satisfied.

Eros judgemental???? You have to be kidding!!! Not our Eros, he is truly above all and knows all.

Sorry mom I don't agree. Eros and I have many differences of opinions but I don't think he acts like a know it all......he just has very strong convictions about what he feels is right and wrong. As do most of us. :)
NIKOLE, any good HEHer knows that you "shoot" first.........and ask questions........later :D :D :D :D .....

wow - yes maybe I was reading that into the situation - Im not sure exactly what Tom's situation is - if the 4day cruise plus nights at Disney is the entire compensation or if he is also getting the 50% off - DCL told me I need to call DVC Fri to ask which I will do but meanwhile I am providing food money for my family. And you know what? in less than 7hrs
IM GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!

Imgointodisney-
Remember what you purchased. You purchased a TIMESHARE not a cruise package. You were able to use your timeshare to exchange into a cruise. What you exchanged was points. What you got back was points. I see no wrong done here. As most of us advise on the DVC board, using your points for anything other than a stay at a DVC resort gives you less value.

It is a shame what has happened(Magic canceled):( , but I do agree with Diane. I would never use our DVC pts to cruise. I would either pay cash for cruise(which we did for 2004) or rent out pts, then pay for the cruise. DVC rips members off by raising the amount of pts(every yr) it takes to cruise.

Diane is right, I think you were fairly compensated. I also think DCL did the right thing cancelling the cruise rather than take the chance of any other cruisers getting sick and that was for your protection. Enjoy your stay at Disney and in the future you can enjoy a great priced cruise, there IS a bright side to this, it's all in how you look at it.
Have fun!

Because DCL has acquired interest on the money from the cash cruisers and although money was exchanged between DVC and DCL it wasn't your money..

in other words, IGTD got different perks from the guy who got the land/sea package -- but both got more than just a refund. so no one should be complaining.

C'mon cut her some slack. She thought others were getting what she was getting and more. I wouldn't blame her for being frustrated had that been the case. Upon further research it doesn't seem to be the case but what harm is done in inquiring?
