View Full Version : fabric paint
Help! My kids want to make pillowcases with fabric paint. I think that most paint will dry hard and not work for a pillowcase. Is there any other paint out there that would work for this?

I agree with you about the paint. I've seen fabric markers at Walmart and Joann Fabrics and Crafts.

Another option is heat transfer paper. That's permanent and doesn't have much texture. If they want to draw their designs, you could either buy transfer paper that you draw directly on, or you could scan the designs and print them on transfer paper designed for printers.
With transfer paper, you do have to be very careful to get the pillow cases out of the wash as soon as they're done and get them in the dryer, or the ink will run.

There are all kinds of fabric paints out there. The paint you are thinking of is dimensional paint and you're right, it will dry hard and isn't suitable for a pillow.
There are soft paints, and I forget the name of them, but there are a ton of paints you just paint with a brush onto fabric, wood or just about anything. There are also dyes that can be painted on.
Go to a hobby store and look around and you will be amazed at what's out there.
I've gotten into dyeing right now and it's so fun.
There is some new stuff that you can use and set things out in the sun to finish it and it looks great.
