Okay, just when I thought I had my DW talked into purchasing, she now has another question and a concern. She is one of these people who are coonvienced that something will always when you have to plan so far ahead. Can someone explain the cancelation policy with points? Example: we book at the 11 month window and lets say a week or 2 before we leave something major happens and we would have to cancel our trip. What happens to our points? Do we loose them or can we bank them and reschedule?

If you cancel a DVC reservation 30 days or less before your scheduled arrival, the points go into a "holding account". Points in the holding account can only be used to reserve a room 60 days or less before your desired arrival. Points in the holding account cannot be banked and expire at the end of the use year.

If you cancel 31 days or more in advance of your scheduled arrival, the points return to the current use year. You can reschedule your trip (based on availability, of course) and the points may be banked (subject to banking deadlines). If you cannot reschedule or bank the points before the end of the use year, the points are forfeited.

Also consider "Travel Protection Insurance." With the plan that is sponsored thru DVC from "Travel Guard International" you are reimbursed $5.00 for every point at a cost of 25 cents per point with a $29.00 minimum premium.

So for example, next year we are staying at BCV for 6 nights, sun-sat, in a 2Bdr for 221 points. If we canceled within the coverage guidlines we would get $1,105.00, with a premium of $55.25.

I was curious if anyone actually ever used the travel insurance?
What was your experience?

Earlier this year we used it. Not for a WDW trip though.
We had to cancel a trip to Vegas and were rembursed about 75% of the cost of the trip. We don't usually get it unless we feel there is a posibility of needing to use it.
