I was accessing Yahoo's home page just now and was very surprised to read in the news that the Segway will be making it's retail debut on Amazon.com. Anyone interested? The retail price will be $4,950. Deliveries will start in March on a first come, first served basis.

And would you believe that there is already a website soliciting plantiffs for the lawsuits that are expected to be generated by the Segway?! If you don't believe me, check out www.sue-it.com
I guess the idea of lawsuits isn't so far-fetched...all the publicity materials say that Segway is untippable, but ask my hubby and the other people who were riding it around the same time as him and they can confirm that's not true (although I am proud of myself because I did NOT fall off :D ).

My husband and I tried the Segway on our three day recently, and IT WAS SOOOO FUN! We only did 5 monutes each (split the 10 minutes for $15), and during the first couple of minutes both of us managed to run over the base of a post (base is wider than the post - didn't see it) - we each jumped off to avoid "catastrpohe" :) I also managed to run into the net around the area once because. By the fifth minute, however, I felt quite secure and was trying turns-on-a-dime and sceeching stops. It was great. By the way, I am a "more than pleasantly plump" 47 year old, and my husband is a trim athletic 48 year old.
I would love to have a Segway, although I am not sure what I would do with it in the suburbs. And as one columnist noted, until a mother can manage a week's worth of groceries, a preschooler and a baby on it, it won't really be a univerally useful item!
