View Full Version : I received the nicest present from Dayna yesterday
Towncrier
11-13-2002, 11:40 AM
When I got home yesterday, there was a package waiting for me from Dayna. I had no idea what to expect. When I opened the box I found a note and two Town Crier ornaments. I cannot describe the emotions that came over me at that moment. I want to thank Dayna publicly for this wonderful gift from the heart. I will treasure these gifts forever and display them prominently in my home.
And to think that Dayna and I met just a year ago at a silly little gathering called DIScon. Before then, we were strangers. Now, we are friends and she has entrusted me with two of her mother's treasures. I cannot thank you enough Dayna.
And I want to thank Pete and everyone involved in the DIS boards and in DIScon 2001 for making it possible for me to find the best bunch of friends in the world. True friendship is a rare and wonderful thing and I feel blessed to have found it here.
okay, so now I am sitting here and tears are welling up in my eyes....You are right John............
Dayna is a very special person......and so are you John.
Together again soon,

Hey, John. You're embarrassing me. :) As some of y'all know, my mom passed away almost 6 years ago. :( I am just now going through her Christmas ornaments, and I found 2 town crier ornaments. I am selling a lot of her ornaments that I already own. I couldn't see myself selling those 2 town crier ornaments to a stranger who wouldn't enjoy them as much as my dear friend John would. My mother would have loved knowing that her ornaments brought joy to someone's life. She loved Christmas and all its trappings. :teeth:

You are so right, John. Dayna is so sweet and kind as well as you are and so many, many, many DISers.
And I'm not going to tear up, but I do have a big smile on my face and a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart thinking about this and all of you dear friends, that I made last year at DIS-Con-I and those new friends to be made at DIS-Con-II.
I promised not to embarrass Dayna, and others, but Dayna, your friendship means so much to me. From the surprise postcards from your travels to meeting me in Atlanta with Frank(lowellsdad) to have breakfast, and to invite me to my first DIS-Con-I DIS mini-meet, just so that I could ride the MK Dumbo ride and meery-go-round.(I had never rode those rides.) I could write a book on all of you and your kind hearts.
Lol...I remember all of you trying to wake me up last year to register for the first DIS-Con-I after it reopened for a limited number of registrants...lol.
Remember, every day I looked on the boards for almost two months to register after the initial registration closed. I remember going to my very first DIS meet in Atlanta, and I just had to go to DIS-Con-I after that. Meeting DISers face to face after only talking on the DISboards was so magical.
Remember that when I got off work that morning when they announced that they were going to restart a limited registration that day, and I was posting by 12:00 P.M. that I was getting so sleepy after working all night..lol.(I had to get back up in 6 hours to go back to work...lol.
When I woke up I had about 20 e-mails, and pms, and a lot of threads yelling, "WAKE-UP...RAY"...lol. Now you know why I registered first this year...lol.
And the same thing happened when my WebTV broke, and I wasn't on the internet for a while. I got calls at work, and one day I received an anoynimous gift of a new WebTV from Colorado. Thank you disneycub. He wouldn't let me pay him back...lol.
Or when ead79 showed up at my hospital with her dad, (and for the life of me I couldn't recognize them) and brought all these camera, paper, ink and printer from the kindness of over one hundred DISers(many that I didn't even know) to take surprise Christmas Santa Claus pictures of the premies for their moms. (I still haven't figured out how to take pictures, yet...lol, but I will.)
The DIS friendships has become a very big part of my life.
Just like Steve told me one time when I was insistent that I pay him for that WebTV. He said please don't take away the "joy of giving".
And that is what all you guys you do. You give of your heart, your friendship.
I love you guys.
I love the friendships.
I love the hugs.
I just feel so darn lucky to call you all my friends.
And it all started here on the DIS. Thank you, Mr. Pete Werner.
I have a list of about 120 DISer names and what they mean to me. How they have touched my heart with their kindness and love.
What a blessing it is to know you guys. And I can't wait to meet everyone and give you a big old bear hug...lol.
I'm very tempted to keep writing every name of a DISer that has touched my heart with her or his kindness, but I am afraid that I really will start to cry.
Most Sincerely, RaySharpton :)
Your DIS Friend For Life. :)

I'll give this thread a 10 Kleenex rating. ;) One of the best things about last DISCON, and the one coming up, is that before you know it, you've made friends for life. Something to be very thankful for every day.

I love my friends!
John, how surprised you must have been. And what a special present.
Dayna, you are as thoughtful as always. I am glad you were able to share your mother's treasures with someone who will appreciate it as much as she did.

Wow there should have been a warning placed on this thread :)
I wish I could be as articulate a Ray was about how thoughtful everyone has been this year, Dayna's thoughtfulness being the rule rather than the exception (That say a whole lot about everyone here). There is rarely a week goes by that I do not recieve a postcard or a little token in the mailbox from this great group of friends I met last year.
I really can't wait to see everyone again in a few weeks...that is right only 20 more days !!!
Add me to the sniffle brigade. :) John, wasn't that a wonderful surprise?!?! I know first hand the generous spirit of Dayna. There are no words to adequately express my feelings about all of you. {{{{hugs}}}}
As Tia said it so simply, I love you all, too. :) I can't wait to see you all in person.

John, what a lovely surprise! Ever since I found this board, I have been continually moved by the spirit of generosity and outpouring of genuine caring I see amongst the Dissers. This is just another one of those random acts of kindness I am seeing every day. I only hope it's contagious!!!!! The world needs more people like Dayna, John, Ray,.....oh, I could go on for days! Thanks to you all!!!! Can't wait to meet you!

p.s. I added Kleenex to my packing list.......

John, what a great surprise from Dayna.
And Dayna I knew before I met you, and saw first hand the surprise you gave Barb over the summer, that you must be a special person. Barb always had good taste in her friends and she spoke so highly of all the friends she made at DISCON.
I am so looking forward to seeing those I already know and making so many more new friends!!

OMG - tissues please - I've had an awful nights sleep - some sort of head/ear/neck ache which made me cry cause I was scared and then the weather here in London was awful and we have those skylight windows in the bedroom and so the rain kept me awake, work is stressful and horrible at the moment and then I come in and log on and after reading this thread I think to myself ......
what's the problem I have these guys :)

Sam, you are so right. I am under a lot of pressure at work as well and I am addicted to the DIS.
The DIS is the best anti depression drug in the world.
So is Dayna....she is by far the sweetest person in the world. What a true friend she is! And a lot of fun too.
And I CAN'T wait to see you all.....
Karen
Hugs all!

Dayna is surely a sweetheart for sure!! She is so thoughtful! So many of you have touched my life and heart, even though I haven't stayed in touch, I've shared the DIS CON experience to my new workmates.
Some of them have trouble understanding my being able to have the time of my life with you guys, (virtual strangers) but a few of them know.
Just this week I took a little time to get back on board to post, and was welcomed so warmly back. I read all the posts then jumpedin my car to go help a family in crisis. The radio was playing Christmas music and it brought me back to last year at Dis Con. Talk about the Kleenex :)
