This will be our first time staying on site, and I'm so excited! :)
We've always stayed off site and just drove in and paid to park, so this will be our first experience using Disney transportation for most of the parks.

I see there is a path from Boardwalk to Epcot, and I know the monorail goes to Epcot...

1. Is it possible to walk to Epcot from the Boardwalk, then take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom?
a. Is it allowed (we wouldn't want to do anything that isn't allowed!)?
b. Does that entrance to Epcot (World Showcase?) not open 'till 11 am, or is the entrance open, just none of the shops/restaurants/exhibits?

2. If it is possible, do you think it would be advantageous, time wise? I've heard stories (on this board) about the buses being so crowded, long lines, etc.

This will be during a Star Wars weekend, if that makes a difference, crowd wise.
Also, we will have a vehicle, but I know from previous visits when we stayed off site that the parking for Magic Kingdom was far away and still required a monorail ride...

Thanks for any insight!

Take the bus from the Boardwalk to Magic Kingdom.

Going through Epcot to the monorail to TTC to Magic Kingdom is so much work.

Enter Epcot, walk through from IG, towards Future World, to the front gate, exit Epcot. Enter Monorail, exit and transfer at TTC. Then arrive at Magic Kingdom.

Also, you'd need to have a hopper pass for your party to ensure you'd be able to enter Magic Kingdom after entering Epcot in the morning.

I believe the International Gateway entrance opens at the same time as the front gate (I haven't experienced it personally; I don't rope drop), but you can only go left, towards England.

It's a lot of walking and connection points, and I think it would set the day off on the wrong foot.

If the goal is to take the monorail at some point, do it on the way back. At least World Showcase will be open then, and you can experience some of the park on the way to your room!

From the Boardwalk the only way to get to the Monorail is to go through the WS enterance. You will need to use a park ticket to enter Epcot. You will walk to the front enterance and exit the park to get access to Monorail. Take the monorail to TTC and switch to the MK monorail.
Or just take the bus to MK. It drops you off close to the MK gate.
**One other thing the crowds for Star Wars weekend will mainly be a DHS since that is where are the Star Wars events are held.

Take the bus if you want to get to MK in a reasonable amount of time. Take the monorail if you have an hour or two to kill.

Getting around from the BW to the parks is easy. You are about a 5 min. walk to the International Gateway entrance to Epcot. They open the same time as the front (on occasion you are allowed in a little earlier since you have to walk to the front). When you enter through the IG you will be directed to walk to the left past England and Canada to the front. From the BW you are also about a 15 min. walk to the Studios (or a short boat ride from the Studios). You will need to use the bus to get to Animal Kingdom. The easiest way to get to MK is to take the bus. As a pp stated, you would need to have park hoppers to go through Epcot to the monorail to get to MK.
I know there are alot of people on here that complain about the buses at the BW but in 14 trips there we have never had a problem. To get to MK the bus will probably stop at the S/D also but we have had on several occasions an express bus that went right from the BW to MK. On the way back from the park the bus will stop at S/D first, then Y/BC and then BW. What we usually do is get off at the first stop and walk along the resort and then take the bridge over the waterway to the BW - much quicker than staying on the bus. Another complaint about the BW is that you can have a long walk to the elevators. We never had a problem with this since we just took the nearest stairway and walked. We always have a view of the waterway between the S/D and BW leading to the Studios and the stairway at the end of the hall came out by the walkway to the studios and just around the corner from the pool. You will figure it all out and won't have any problems. You will love the BW.

Thanks Everyone!

I guess I didn't really consider the long walk from World Showcase through the whole of Epcot and how long that would take!

I'm happy for the reassurance that the buses aren't that bad!:thumbsup2

We'll be taking the bus when going to MK!

Thanks again!

The busses to MK run frequently in the morning. After BW, it stops at Swan & Dolphin.

You can walk or take a boat to Epcot and DHS from the Boardwalk and yes from the front of Epcot you can catch the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation center and then another monorail to the MK,however I don't see the need to do either to get to the Magic Kingdom, just take the bus from the Boardwalk,it's right there and Epcot is a huge park, in the time you walk through Epcot and get to the monorail you would probably have already reached the MK via bus and like I said you would also have to transfer to the MK express monorail to get to MK.

The International Gateway entrance does open at 9am and you can walk through the Uk and Canada to get to Future World but nothing will be open in Canada or the Uk.Also you better have hopper passes if you do this or if you walk into Epcot and don't have hopper passes that will be your park that day unless you add on the hopper option.

Don't be scared of buses, the monorails only run between Epcot and MK and the other line which runs from the TTC (MK's parking lot) and MK,there's also a resort monorail line for the resorts around MK but essentially that's it,most of the transportation options in WDW are by bus.You mentioned another point why you should just grab the bus from the Boardwalk, this bus and all resort buses will drop you off right at MK,unlike parking at MK or taking the monorail from Epcot to the TTC which still requires you to take the monorail or ferry into the MK.Of course you might have bus rides that are crowded like when exiting a park and require you to stand but the same happens on the monorail, there's plenty of times you might get a nearly empty bus with a nice relaxing ride to the parks, people bash the buses but I think they do a great job overall of getting you around.
