View Full Version : The How-Do-I-Write-a-PTR PTR!

So I have been talked into writing a PTR for our upcoming cruise in July. And I have no idea what to write about because I have NOTHING planned!!!!! :scared1:

So I will start with who the heck we are and why we DIS!

I am a 42-year-young woman. :scared1: I am an only parent by choice to my amazing daughter, Willow. She just turned 5 this January. How did we celebrate? With a surprise trip to Disneyland, of course!!!! :woohoo:

Here we are last October in WDW:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a98/LoveMyBullmastiff/Disney%202011%20PhotoPass/764c8d9e.jpg

We made our first trip to WDW in October 2010, and we were sold on Disney long before then when a good friend introduced me to the DIS - I spent at least a year on this board learning everything I could about Disney and feeding my new-found obsessions. :scared:

We enjoyed a wonderful first trip to WDW in 2010, bringing along my mom and a friend of mine, which resulted in the need to stay off-site and rent a house. Come 2011, and DD and I made our first just-the-two-of-us major vacation. And we chose WDW, of course! :woohoo: This time we stayed on property, renting DVC points for a one-bedroom villa at BWV! We spent 9 nights there, enjoyed all the parks, walked over to Epcot and DHS whenever we wanted, learned that Mommy loves MK but DD prefers DHS to every park in the World because of an obsession with ToT.

And then came DD's 5th birthday in January and my surprise gift - her first trip to Disneyland. Holy cow - we had an amazing time!!!!

And now we are going on a cruise!!!! To Alaska!!!! :woohoo: Honestly, I don't know how to plan for this. I am kind of mourning the fact that I don't have a WDW or DL trip to plan, and I'm not sure how to translate that into a cruise. :confused3 I know that I could be booking excursions, but honestly, I am not sure that I can afford to spend a lot of money on excursions, so I need help here. What kind of plans should I make? What do I need to pack for? Is it cold in Alaska in July??? :rotfl2: Seriously, I have never been less prepared!!!!! :rotfl2:

Now I'm going to go back and read the whole intro.

I know nothing of Disney cruises, but DH and I got married on a cruise, and my MiL, BiL and SiL all cruised to Alaska 2 Julys ago.

It was cold. Not frigid I don't think, but jeans and coats and whatnot were needed (at least that's what they were wearing in the photos) I'm not a nature kind of gal, so I may have tuned out when they were all talking about that stuff. I'm probably not going to be too helpful at all. I'll just be here for moral support. :cheer2:

How dare people force you to write a PTR! :sad2: Some people just don't have any manners these days.....:rolleyes1

So, I don't know about Alaska cruising, but I know a little (ok, make that very little) about Disney cruising. I will tell you that it is FUN! Of course, I've told you that before, so you already knew that! :lmao:

Even if you don't book excursions, we're going to figure out some things for you to think about doing/planning on the boat!:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I am so not a "nature kind of gal" either! :rotfl2: My mom and I were talking about the weather for the cruise today. She and my dad did a non-DIS :scared1: Alaska cruise some years ago - she does not remember much. But she did think that we would be best served by packing jeans and stuff instead of shorts. So that's something.....

Mostly, I'm just glad to have another place to chat with my DIS friends and to meet new DIS friends! :woohoo: I guess I should post a link on my other TR.

So glad you are here, Amanda! Both DD and I are really starting to get excited about the cruise. Every night, when she goes to bed, we do this thing where I send her off to a "wonderful world of dreams" (I think I've told you about this ;)), and lately she is choosing the Disney Cruise as her first dream stop very night. She is so excited about the kids' club!

So glad you started! :goodvibes

Love the picture of the two of you in front of the castle -- very nice :)

I am not going to be any help at all here either --- never cruised, never been to Alaska --- but looking forward to the conversation all the same!

Glad to hear you are getting the four day weekend -- I hate the feeling of being swamped too -- We had two late nights in a row this week (not home until after 8, and I leave before 6 each morning) it just really throws off the whole routine at home --- not to mention one of my folks was helping me out by staying with my son so that threw off their nights as well -- oh well, I am hoping things will smooth out a bit soon.

I asked my son if he wanted to try a cruise, but creature of habit that he is his reply was "umm, no. We stay at the Dolphin." :lmao: Since I love it there too we are a good match!

It's hard, isn't it? I gave up private practice to avoid this kind of stuff, so it's a little frustrating, but so far, it has not happened often. It is nice that your folks help out!

Dream big girl! :thumbsup2 Willow seems like such an outgoing child that I just can't imagine her not wanting to go & play in the kids club! You won't know what to do with yourself with the alone time. Seriously! When we went on the Dream & Reid would go to the club, Ed & I almost didn't know what to do with ourselves. :lmao: Then, I found myself wanting to pick him up soon after dropping him off because I'm so not used to him being away form me. Don't be like me! Let her stay!!! :rotfl2:

In my opinion, you'd better get that Kindle loaded up! The pics of the kids' clubs look awesome. I wish that I could go to them!

I've often daydreamed about a Disney Cruise, but I think I'd miss Maddie a little if she wanted to be away from me all day-just like Amanda said-I'm so used to having her with me all the time!

Yeah, sometimes she is so excited about the Kids' Club that all I can think is, ":sad1: Is she not going to spend any time with me on this cruise????" I am hopeful that we will strike a nice balance between doing our own things and having fun together! :thumbsup2

So, I guess I will post an "update" of sorts. Not that I really have anything to update! :rotfl2:

I don't think I've mentioned that Willow and I are not the only folks in our party for this cruise. My mother and her best friend have decided to come with us. :woohoo: When we booked, we were very lucky and got state rooms just 3 doors down from each other and very close to the elevator. :thumbsup2 Then, a couple of months ago, our TA emailed us and told us that Disney had upgraded us - we were moved up a couple of decks, and we now have adjoining state rooms! :cool1:

My mom is sounding really excited about the cruise, and that makes me so happy. She is never very excited about anything anymore :sad2:, so I am really hopeful that she is going to have a fun time and truly enjoy herself.

And, in a life update, we are heading to Portland tomorrow to see Wicked! :woohoo: We are so excited. Maybe I will post pictures of our trip here when we get back. :confused3

That's really great that your mom is excited! I hope all of you have a great time!

I'm so jealous that you're going to see Wicked! I want to see it soooo badly! I think it's coming to New Orleans in May 2013. I already told Ed that it would make a great Mother's Day gift. :lmao: Did you read the books?

We were definitely really happy about the upgrade! And we are still right by the elevators. My mom has some pretty bad mobility issues, so that is such a blessing given how FAR you can end up from the elevators. :scared1:

Oh, I have been wanting to see Wicked for a couple of years. I am BEYOND excited!!!!! My mom is going with us too - we love to do these little trips to Portland to see a show. When Willow was three, we went over for The Lion King. And last year, we went over for Shrek: The Musical. It's kind of become a tradition, I guess.

I finally finished the first book - it took me forever because I only really ever get to read when I travel. If I'm by myself, I can read a ton. If I'm traveling by plane with Willow, I get to read while she watches a movie. I did start the second one, but I haven't even been able to look at it since I downloaded it months ago. :sad2: Someday.......

That's great that y'all will be close to the elevators for your mom. Ok, some cruise questions:

What deck are y'all on?
Are y'all mid-ship, aft or forward?
Do you have an interior, ocean view or verandah?

What a nice tradition! I love going to the theatre! Ed & I used to go a lot when he was at Georgia Tech (in Atlanta) & then when we lived right outside of Atlanta. I really do miss it.

I loved the first book! I have to say that I also really liked the 2nd book. But, I won't lie, the 3rd book started to lose me. It took 2 tries before I was able to get through it. I was glad when I finally did finish it because I do want to finish the series. However, because I found book 3 to be a bit disappointing, I haven't been able to bring myself to spend money on downloading the final book. One day I will, though.

How exciting for you guys!

I am going on my first cruise in (OMG I am so not ready) 5 weeks!

You have done the first best thing in my opinion, and that's finding the DISboards! Through my reading I've heard that a lot of the Alaska excursions might be kind of rough on a 5 year old anyway, so you might just see if you can find one or two low key things to try out and otherwise just really enjoy the trip. Luckily Disney seems to offer TONS to do so you should be just fine.

I bet you will have time to chill and read your Kindle, but I also bet that if you go over some of the family activities the night before, you and your daughter will be able to plan some together time ahead of time.

As for what to wear/bring, check out this link (http://www.travelalaska.com/Planning/Alaska%20Climate.aspx). I am not sure exactly what your itinerary includes, but it has average temps for all the areas and suggestions on what to wear as well. Even in the southwest it looks like highs in the low 60s, which to me is definitely NOT shorts weather.

Looking forward to watching your journey!

Okay, I totally had to look it up. :rotfl2: We are on Deck 7, aft (just behind the elevators). We have a verandah - I wouldn't have booked the cruise at all if I couldn't get a verandah. I LOVE the idea of the verandah. And I also think I will feel less claustrophobic. :rotfl2:

I hope that you are able to enjoy the theater again before long. I bet you will love it even more when you start taking Reid. My mom and I could not believe how much we enjoyed Shrek: The Musical We couldn't imagine how they were going to do it, but it was amazing!

That's interesting about the books. I can totally see how it could happen though. :sad2:

I think you'll really enjoy having the verandah! I'm glad Ed put that as one of his conditions for our cruise last May.

We were on the very aft of the Dream. I really liked the aft because it was quiet & didn't seem to have as much foot traffic. In fact, for our cruise next year on the Fantasy, I booked us again on the very aft of the ship on deck 7.

That is great to hear! I think the elevator location may be a little noisy, but I'm not that worried about it - DD and I don't travel without white noise, so we should be good. I mean, being one floor above the boardwalk didn't bother us at all. :confused3

How nice that your mom and a friend are going too! ( I'm assuming that you enjoy traveling with her) Maybe you really will get some adult time!

I can't imagine how hard being a single parent must be sometimes-especially on vacation. I'm really glad that you'll get some real down time on the cruise.

WooHoo for an upgrade!! That's awesome!

Enjoy Wicked! We saw it in Chicago and loved it-the book is excellent as well!

Yeah, I think it would be really fun if the three grown-ups could do a dinner at Palo or something. I have no idea if we can even get a ressie, but that would be so fun - I haven't gone out to a nice dinner with no kids in, well, five years! :rotfl2: But if it doesn't happen, that's okay too. I really do love vacationing with DD. And, really, our vacations that have been just the two of us have been more relaxing - I have only been in charge of our good time rather than everyone else's (which is somehow the way it ends up in other situations ).

Parenting alone definitely has its challenges, but I love it. I wouldn't change our relationship for anything - it is the best thing that ever happened to me. :thumbsup2 Could I use a day off? Heck yeah! :rotfl2: But it's all good. And taking this little trip this weekend should be very rejuvenating. :woohoo:

The upgrade sounds perfect -- the verandah sounds lovely -- is there a place to sit out there? I really know nothing about the ships, since my travel buddy has NO interest and I get motion sick on pretty much anything, I have never looked into it.

Nice that your Mom and her friend are coming -- someone to chat with, but they have each other to entertain so you will get some time alone too :goodvibes I love a little time alone -- people often seem confused by that, but every once in a while some time totally to myself is just heaven!

Yes, there are chairs (and, I think, a little table?) on the verandah. I dream of sitting out there with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening and watching the glaciers and wildlife and the ocean.

Great upgrade!!!! How nice you'll have your mom (and her BFF) when Willow is at the "club" :lovestruc I am glad she is excited too!!! Ahhhhh verandah:lovestruc (yup I am still too chicken to go on a cruise...but if I did I am sure I'd wanta verandah :confused3)
Yeah, I'm really glad that my mom and her friend will be joining us. I like to see my mom have fun - she doesn't enjoy life that much anymore.

Okay, so an "update"! :rotfl2:

As I predicted, now that I have paid for the cruise, I am suddenly getting very excited about it!!! :woohoo: Funny how that works.

Last weekend, Willow, my mom and I headed over to Portland, Oregon to see Wicked. I took Friday and Monday off, so we had a really great little break together. Before I get to the cruise updates, let me just say that Wicked was AMAZING! If you haven't, go now! Run!!! Do it!!! Seriously, all three of us really had a great time. It is a very long production, but Willow never got bored or caused any trouble. :lovestruc In fact, I think she may be a bigger fan of Elphaba (the "wicked" witch) than of Dorothy, which is really saying something when you know that my child has been a HUGE WOZ fan for years and even went as Dorothy last Halloween. Anyway, we had a lot of fun at the show, a ton of fun dining out every night, shopping for Spring and Summer clothes for Willow, hanging out together, etc. Great weekend!

And, much more relevant to this PTR, I sucked it up and paid the balance on our cruise while we were in Portland. And, voila!, I am now excited about the cruise! :rotfl2: I even started investigating excursions and saving as "favorites" some that might work for us. I do NOT want to spend a ton, and I have to find things that will be both friendly for a small child and for an older woman with mobility issues - the good news? Those last two criteria encompass all of the cheapest excursions! :woohoo: :rotfl2:

Hi
I'm mostly a lurker, but wanted to tell you that I have enjoyed reading your trip reports. Your daughter is adorable and it looks like you'll have many fun trips with her.

We went on an Alaskan cruise two years ago, but it wasn't a Disney cruise. Just DH and me. Thought I'd tell you a few things that we did just to give you some ideas. I'm not sure what your itinerary or ports are. In Ketchikan we went to the Lumberjack show and it was a lot of fun and then we just wandered around the town. We went up on the funicular and then walked down. Beautiful views.

In Juneau we went on a whale watching tour which we loved, but it's pricey. However, you do have lots of opportunities to see dolphins and whales from the ship. We had a balcony and we bundled up and sat out there and watched some days, or went to a spot inside that had large windows and a naturalist who pointed out sites of interest.

In Skagway we went on the White Pass Railroad and loved the scenery, but it might be a bit long for your daughter. We also went into the town. There are shuttle busses that pick you up at the dock and it's only $2.

In Sitka and Icy Strait Point we just shopped and walked around the towns and enjoyed the scenery and it was very peaceful. We were glad that we didn't plan a tour.

We also went to Victoria and went to Butchard Gardens and a city tour. We loved Butchard Gardens. We'd been before but it was about 20 years ago when our daughters were little.

We started the cruise in San Francisco and spent four days there. I was just as excited about that as I was for the cruise. We ended in Vancouver and flew home that day as we've been there many times.

I hope this helps you a little. Do you go on Cruise Critics? I found lots of info on there and there might even be a Roll Call for your cruise - also on Dis.

Sounds like y'all had a lovely weekend! I really hope I can see Wicked one day.

And Yay! for paying off your cruise! I'm so happy that you're getting more excited! And how great that the excursions you're looking at are some of the cheapest. :thumbsup2

Welcome Nora!!! You read the never-ending TR too??? Wow - thank you! I hope that you will stay and post some more. My gosh - you have already been so helpful. And several of the things that you have mentioned are exactly the types of things that I am considering!!!! :woohoo: I know that I have saved one of the train rides (can't remember which one right now), so it is great to hear that you enjoyed yours. Willow is pretty patient and able to enjoy things that take some time, so I am hoping that she will be okay if it takes awhile. I LOVE whale watching (did it a couple of times when I lived in Boston) - I would love to book such an excursion, but then my mom mentioned that they saw whales several times from the ship when she and my dad cruised Alaska years ago. Not sure what to do - sounds like you had the same experience. What do you recommend? :confused3

I remember reading about the Disney Alaska cruise that started in SF. I lived there until moving here in 2007, so I KNOW you had a great time there.

I had totally forgotten about cruise critic! :headache: I should check it out now that I am actually going to cruise! :rotfl2:

We really did have a great weekend. I am super-stressed about the possibility of moving now though, will have to update on that too, I guess, although I'm not sure whether I have talked to anyone but you about it. Maybe I will just post my uber-stress in a reply to you at some point. You lucky girl..... :rotfl2:

You really do have to see Wicked. It is VERY different from the book, but having read the book, you know that it would have to be. It was like they took the idea of the book and then created a story that was perfect for musical theater. It was really good. I was most blown away by how much Willow loved it. A friend had really freaked me out because she had seen it and she is certain that her daughter (older than Willow) would be completely afraid. Turns out it is not scary at all - Willow did not have a moment where she was fearful. She just loved the whole thing. And actually asked for Wicked as her "dream trip" several times after. :rotfl2:

Blah, blah, blah. Sorry - I'm a little talk-y after being gone for so long! :headache: :rotfl:

I have to recheck but I think Wicked is coming to New Orleans next May. Of course, our cruise is in May as well. But, if I can make it work, I'm there!

Yeah, when they 1st came out with the musical & I saw that people were bringing their kids, I thought, "Ok. It must be really different from the book." Just because the book definitely has some very adult moments & topics. But, I'm interested to see how they changed it.

Don't worry about being talk-y! It's your PTR, talk our ears off if you want!

To answer the questions you asked me, this will only be my second DCL cruise, and no I haven't been on an Alaska cruise, but it looks so beautiful! I live in Canada, so I am not too crazy about the idea of a "cold cruise" lol

I have heard so many great things about Wicked, I am glad you enjoyed it! I loved the book, and while I'm sure it would have to be hugely adapted for musical theatre, would love to see it!

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I'm excited about your PTR adventures!

My brother and SIL went on the Disney cruise to Alaska last year and LOVED it! I don't remember all the excursions they went on, but they enjoyed every one. They are wearing jeans and light jackets in all their pictures, so I'm guessing its not that warm (really scientific, right? ;) )

I'm so glad to year you enjoyed Wicked, we saw the show in Jacksonville, FL right before we moved to DC and really loved it too. I'd love to see it again!

Oh, and all you ladies and your cruises have inspired me. I have decided that as soon as Everett is potty trained we are going. I keep telling Everett that when he uses the potty like a big boy, we'll go on a Disney boat. Nothing like bribery, right?

Don't feel about using bribery - I bribed Reid with M&M's when I potty trained him! :rotfl: And I think that's a great decision to do a cruise once he's potty trained. I think y'all will love it!

Where in Canada are you? I hear you on the cold cruise stuff - I'm not thrilled about that myself (we live in the Pacific Northwest), but I have always wanted to see Alaska, and the idea of not having to add airfare to the price was thrilling for me. :rotfl:

Hey everyone! (Or anyone who is left!) I'm going to go back and do replies, but I wanted to give you all a quick real life update since I have been totally MIA from the DIS. You all know how crazy and busy life has been for the last few weeks. This week was no less crazy or busy - in fact, it was more so. On Monday, DD came down with a double ear infection - hasn't had one since she was a baby. Okay, we can deal with that. Wednesday and Thursday, I had two of the most stressful job interviews I have ever had. Then, yesterday, when I picked DD up from preschool, after some wild stories, she finally told me that she had shoved a tiny plastic bead (which came out of her stuffed rabbit) into her ear! :scared1: I looked with a flashlight and could see it, but I knew I wouldn't be able to get it out. I took her over to see my dad (retired physician) - he checked with the otoscope and determined that because of how slick and round the bead was, he couldn't risk trying to get it out. We went to urgent care. We were there for 2.5 hours. The doc there finally gave up - after much pain, tears, and screaming (mostly from DD).

So, this morning, we went to the ENT. He looked in with the microscope and determined that there was no way he could get it out without taking her to the OR. :scared1: Of course, there was no OR available until 4:00 this afternoon, so we are just now home. They had to do IV anesthesia and everything, but the dang bead is GONE, and DD is fine. However, I have been a little stressed out! :rotfl2:

I am going to do some replies tonight, and maybe we can even chat about the cruise this weekend!

You know, I know that feeling - I love that I don't have to compromise anything, but sometimes it would really be nice not to be solely responsible for every major life decision! It is nice to talk to someone else who knows that feeling! :thumbsup2

 Just to be clear, I do not charge our vacations except to get miles. I charge everything I buy in order to get free flights, but I NEVER pay interest. So I can't go any crazier than I would if I were paying cash right at that moment, because I know that I will be paying cash the day that the bill arrives. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much - everyone keeps telling me that, so I know it's right. I feel a lot of guilt though. :(

Hello to anyone who is left here!

I am going to talk about the cruise!!! :rolleyes1

I just realized that it is less than two months away, and that is exciting! :cool1: Next weekend, my mom's friend is finally going to come down for a couple of days so that we can book excursions and make travel plans and everything. I have saved a few different excursions in my favorites that I think might be doable and enjoyable for all of us. We'll see what we decide.

I also really want to book a dinner at Palo. :cloud9: But I have no idea what night to choose! There are no parties (like the pirate party) currently scheduled, but apparently, that can change. There is a formal night and a semi-formal night, but I don't know what nights those are. I don't want to reserve Palo on a night that we'll be wanting to be doing something else. :confused3 Veteran cruisers, any advice on this??? Or am I going to find that I'm too late to reserve ANY night? :confused3 :rotfl:

Yes, I'm excited to plan SOMETHING! :rotfl: I will post about the excursions we are considering if I can ever remember how to get back to my "favorites" or whatever it's called on that terrible Disney cruise-planning web site. It is not very user-friendly. :headache:

Well, it won't be the end of the world if we don't get to do Palo, I suppose, so I guess I will just see what reservations are available. I was a little excited at the thought of going out for a nice dinner and not trying to entertain a bored child through the whole meal. :rolleyes1

OMG!! Poor Willow and Mom!!! I'm glad to hear that everything is fine now, but how stressful!

Sorry that the job interviews were rough, but I hope that you feel good about them. Atlanta would be good. Pretty cool city, but terrible for flying :scared1:

Good luck planning for the cruise. I have no idea about the Palo situation either. Sorry!
Thanks. It was horrible, but we are very lucky that we haven't had to deal with anything worse.

Hmm, what is the deal with Atlanta and flying???? :confused3

I can't wait to hear what kind of excusions y'all do on the Alaskan cruise!

I've been thinking about booking Palo for us on our cruise next year. But, I haven't decided on brunch vs. dinner. I like the idea of dinner but like you said, it's hard to know which night to schedule it for. The only thing I'm not looking forward to on a longer cruise is the formal & semi-formal nights. I'm not a big dress up girly-girl. But, maybe it'll be nice.

Glad Willow (and her mom) is OK...OR sounds much better than the agony she went through at Urgent care...so sorry. But I am sure you werefreaking out waiting for your baby!!! Hopefully there will not be anymore sticking stuff in her ear, up her nose, and all those other fun things kids do

Well, I'm back - at least for a moment! :rotfl:

My mom's friend came to visit this weekend so that we could finally book our excursions. So I did book them tonight - we decided just to book two because they are very expensive, and we really do want to enjoy the ship and have at least one port where we can just wander around a bit on our own.

So, in Skagway, we are booked for the White Pass Scenic Railway: All aboard for a round trip up the historical White Pass and Yukon Route and on to the summit! This adventure is fully narrated and contains stories of the gold rush and historic and scenic points of interest of this engineering landmark.

And in Juneau, we are booked for the Sled Dog Discovery & Musher's Camp: Learn about the lives of sled dogs and their mushers. See these dogs in action as they pull you on a thrilling and adventurous summertime ride.

I think these will be just right for our traveling party - interesting for the five year old and do-able for the mobility-challenged.

Only disappointment was that there were NO Palo reservations available. :sad2: I knew this would happen - I should have just said to heck with everyone else and booked the dang thing when we first could. Oh well - lesson learned. I will try to get a ressie when we board the ship. And if we can't get one, I'm sure we will have a great time at our assigned restaurants. :thumbsup2

I too a little  about the formal and semi-formal nights - that's really not my thing. But I am going to just try to go with it and enjoy - I DO like the idea of seeing Mickey and Minnie in their formal-wear. ;) :rotfl2:

Well, I'm just going to keep going here! :rotfl2:

Today we were out with Willow's BFF and her mommy (a good friend of mine - we'll call her "B"). B and I have talked a number of times about taking the girls on a trip together, but it has never worked out - BTW, they have never done Disney. :scared1: Anyway, we were chatting while the girls were enjoying various bounce houses and such at this small town festival thing we were attending, and B was talking about how we keep trying to find a long weekend to go over to Portland together with the girls and that maybe she would just do that for her daughter's upcoming birthday instead of having a party. Awesome - we will have a blast! :woohoo: And then we started talking, yet again, about how fun it would be to take the girls to Disney together. And B said that she was still thinking that it would be perfect for 2013 because her sister lives in Florida, and she and her daughter could go visit her sister during the latter half of the trip. By then, her son will be close to two, and he could stay home with her husband.

Wellllllll, I hope this comes to be!!! We are thinking about June - I know, WAY crowded compared to our other trips! :scared1: - because the girls will be in school, and we will want to be able to be gone for a week or more. So we would travel at the very beginning of summer break when, hopefully, it will be slightly less crowded. They would stay at Disney for 4 or 5 days - obviously, Willow and I would stay for 9 or 10 days! :rotfl2: How fun would that be????? Not to mention that Willow's BFF's birthday is in July, so she would be within her rights to celebrate her birthday during the trip! :woohoo:

It's a long shot that it will happen, but I think it is enough to push me over the line to start planning a June 2013 trip for us regardless! :cool1: And, I was just poking around on-line. Well, because that's what I do when I think there might be a trip. :rolleyes1 And I am just shocked at how much less expensive it would be for us to rent a two-bedroom DVC villa via points rental than to get two moderate hotel rooms! How tragic! :rotfl2:

I think the dog sled excursion will be great! You also get to meet your dogs and then play with puppies! :thumbsup2

I just found a Palo reservation for the first night, but we decided to pass - I want us all to be together and meet our servers and everything on that first night. But that does tell me that it will pay to keep checking - obviously, people are reserving several nights and figuring out which one they really want as they plan. I will just hope to jump on someone's canceled ressie! :thumbsup2

And, yes, I so agree. I am REALLY looking forward to the relaxing time on this vacation. it will be my first relaxing vacation!!!! I don't want to rev it up with too many "must do's"! :rotfl2:

Yep - B and I have tried to plan several trips over the last year - in fact, originally, she and Willow's BFF had hoped to cruise with us in July. B's husband is not so keen on a Disney trip. He thinks that their small children will enjoy trips that are much more adult-oriented. We don't think he understands that kids need to have fun on a kid level when on vacation! :rotfl2: Anyway, she said that he would probably object to this idea but that she was going to overrule him. I hope that happens - I think the four of us would have an AMAZING time! And I would love for Willow to be able to introduce her BFF to all of her favorite attractions! :cloud9: But, if it doesn't happen, it's okay because it has made me realize that it is NOT too early for me to start planning and thinking about a June 2013 trip for us! :woohoo:

And my boss has asked me to start planning a second trip for her in October! :cool1: So excited to do that!!! She totally gets it after her last trip - she came back and was totally sold, has never stopped talking about it, etc.! :woohoo: AND a co-worker told me this week that he thinks that his family might finally be able to afford to go this Fall, and they want my help to plan it if they can make it happen! WOOT!!!!! Finally some trips to plan! :rotfl2:

Just found and read your PTR! I know exactly how you feel. We are going on the Alaskan Cruise in June and it is only 25 days away from now and I finally feel like I have actually gotten the hang of planning for a DCL Cruise which we have never done either! We are big WDW people, so that is all I knew how to plan for. I did tons of research when we first started planning, and now I feel confident with the decisions we have made. We are going Whale Watching in Juneau, Flight-Seeing in Ketchikan, and Hiking/Walking City Tour in Skagway. We did manage to book Palo for Brunch and Dinner ONLY because I did it at midnight when the window opened up, but I didn't get High Tea which I really wanted, oh well there is always another time. But if you still need any planning ideas or anything feel free to pop over to my PTR/TR I have lists of stuff I am packing and what we are doing etc! I hope you have a WONDERful time on your cruise to Alaska! For that matter I hope we do too! :)

Definitely try to get a Palo ressie once you're onboard! I've heard people have luck with that.

Both of the excursions sound fantastic! I don't like booking lots of excursions either. 1. because of the price and 2. because I like to have free time to explore the ship or the port. Can't wait to hear about the cruise because those excursions sounds so fun!

Anyway, as you would know if you read my last update :rolleyes1, I did finally book our excursions. But then I was talking to my mom this week, and we realized that there is no way that she could do the dog sled excursion given the situation with her back (3 or 4 fusions in the last 10 years????) :scared1:. Well, she called her friend to let her know, and we have all decided that the three of us (Willow, myself, and my mom's friend) will keep the excursion and my mom will enjoy some probably absolutely blissful totally alone time onboard the Wonder. :woohoo: So that has all worked out. Phew - high drama there! :rotfl2:

Those of you who are actually reading this and happen to have eagle eyes may have noticed something new in my ticker. :rolleyes1 Yep - I have decided to heck with it - regardless of whether our friends go, Willow and I are going to hit The World HARD in June 2013 Awesome - right? :cool1: Um, yeah, but we have only visited in October before. Are the crowds going to be so out of control that WDW will be ruined for us????? :scared1: Will it be so hot and humid that we will want to catch the first plane home???? :scared1: Speak to me prior June travelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay!!! for a new ticker! We've only done March (twice), April, and August, but one of my girl friends takes her family in late May/early June every year. It'll be crowded, but you girl know what you want to do and how to make it happen. I think it'll be fine. As for the weather, it'll be hot, but that's what afternoons in the pool are for right?

Congrats on the new ticker! June is hot, and it is more crowded than Oct, but I think you'll do just fine. You are a rope drop family, so you can take advantage of lower crowds then, and Willow is older, so she can go in the evenings, and you can take advantage of the EMH evenings.

I actually think my favorite time to tour the parks is late evening in the summer. I love it around 10 or 11 when the major heat of the day has dissipated but it is still warm, and the parks are so magical late at night.

I'm also glad that everything worked out with the dog sled excursion. Your mom can have some solo time, and you guys can enjoy the doggies!

Hi,

Stop by to say hi and see how to "chat" but I can't manage to know what to do or where to look..???:confused3 Hope you can read this...:confused3:rolleyes2:blush::worried:

:rotfl2:

So glad to hear that y'all were able to keep the sled excursion. That really does sound like a lot of fun. And your mom will definitely enjoy her time on the Wonder!

Sounds like y'all had a very nice Saturday. We spent Saturday afternoon & Sunday morning building Reid's new swingset. I have a nice sunburn on the back of my shoulders to prove it! :( Note to self: let Ed do your sunscreen on your back - that's what he's here for. :rotfl2:

Yeah, I really think June will be do-able. Of course, I had to break down and buy a new car last weekend, so I'm not sure right now whether or now we will make the June trip or push it back a little. :rotfl2:
Hi Amanda! I feel you on the crazy-busy. So not fair! :rotfl:

Are you all moved in????

I'll be awaiting the update! Photobucket has been slow as molasses for me, so good luck!
Coming up soon! I hope.......

Okay. That was surprisingly painless! Now let's see if I remember how to post pictures here. :rotfl2:

So it's June 1! That means that we have exactly 30 days before we hit the road for Seattle (from which we will board our ship the following day). Well, our tradition for Disney trips is that, at 30 days out, the countdown calendar goes up! :woohoo:

I have been insanely busy at work, so as of this morning, the calendar was not even started. :scared1: I had, however, purchased supplies the preceding weekend. And my friend at work who always helps me make our countdown calendar was game for spending our lunch break doing a little crafting. ;)

So here is the calendar:
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a98/LoveMyBullmastiff/Pre-Cruise%202012/424441d4.jpg

The way it works for us: each evening, Willow gets to tear off a day. Underneath that day is a slip of paper with a clue to finding a gift somewhere in the house (BTW - bear with me, my clues are very lame this year - it was a rush job :rotfl:).

First sight of the calendar:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a98/LoveMyBullmastiff/Pre-Cruise%202012/beac8978.jpg

The countdown begins!

The clue:

Finding her present (located under her Minnie stuffy from our first trip):

The present - a photo book of our first WDW trip.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a98/LoveMyBullmastiff/Pre-Cruise%202012/2ff08bbf.jpg

BTW - never fear, I will not subject you to this level of detail for every day of the calendar! :rotfl2:

The calendar is cute enough by itself, but the clues are awesome! What a great keepsake for Willow, and that picture that the book is open to is adorable.

Hope you guys are getting excited, I would be!

So good to "see" you! I was just thinking about y'all today.

Hope things calm down a bit for you. I think things are finally getting a little settled down for me. We are all moved in. The only thing I'm waiting on to complete the house is our new den furniture. Hopefully, we'll be getting it in the next couple of weeks.

The countdown calendar so cute! I had made one for my best friend's kids for their 1st Disney trip this past Feb. I did Disney facts under each Mickey head that they tore off. I really love your clues leading to a present. Terrific idea! And that photo book is such a great keepsake!

Are you still job hunting? Are you getting excited for the cruise? I know....questions, questions, questions.

Thanks! I have so much fun planning the calendar and silly little gifts. I love making photo books - used to have one for every month of her life and have gotten very behind. Over the last month or so (due to a great 50%-off code), I am almost caught up!!!

Can you believe what a sweet little baby she is in that pic? That was her first-ever BBB experience at 3 years old. I can't believe what a difference a couple of years make. :sad1:

All moved in!! That is wonderful! You must be so happy. :woohoo:

I had two more job interviews this week (and others in between the last time we were both on here, I'm sure. :rotfl2: These federal jobs take FOREVER. Do you know that I have not had a final decision in any one of these jobs to date??? :rotfl2: It really works well for me though because I have never felt so conflicted on any decision - the longer that it is put off, the better right now. At least I know that we will still be here to do the cruise with my mom - that is actually a huge relief!

You know, we are really excited now for this cruise. We still don't feel like we know what to expect, and I don't feel like I have done the kind of research I should have, but we don't care anymore - we are going on vacation in one month!!!! :woohoo: I really think that my mom is excited now too! :thumbsup2

I really am! I don't know what it is but this move seemed to go on forever. Ed & I have been married almost 13 years & this was our 8th move. And, for whatever reason, this was the most taxing. Last night, we hung pictures in the house & that has really helped to make it feel done & put together.

That's good that nothing has been rushed & you'll still be there for the cruise. Still praying that whatever is best for you & Willow will come your way. :goodvibes It is kind of crazy how long it takes though. Although, I don't know why I'm surprised...it is the government after all. Shoot, even regular companies are taking longer & longer these days in their hiring process. Ed still gets letters & such from companies he applied to back in the fall.

I'm so happy that y'all are getting excited for the cruise! I think that's a great attitude: just go & know you'll have a great time no matter what you end up doing on or off of the boat. I think that's one of the things I'm looking forward to with our cruise next year: not a lot of planning. I know a lot of people on the DIS who are on our sailing that are already researching excursions & trying to see how much they can fit in at each port. I'm like whatever! We'll go to the beach at each port & that's it! We just want a laid back vacation. We'll need after our WDW vacay this year since it'll be jam-packed busy.

Moving is so hard. And I would think that moving once you have a child/children must be even more difficult. Also more exciting, but more time-consuming and exhausting. I'm so glad that you are starting to feel finished. Phew!!!!

Yeah, I really am dreading making the decision so I'm good with the employers dragging out the process and/or it taking a while to find the right job. It's really hard to leave here, but I know it will have to happen eventually - my boss has been on leave for the last 2 and 1/2 weeks for surgery. She is getting older, and I'm sure she will retire before tooooooooo long. The only person in our office eligible for her job (and who is obviously gunning for it now while she is out ) - well, let's just say that I would be making a MUCH BIGGER effort in my job search if he was currently in her position. ;) So I know that I will eventually have to land and accept something. :confused3

You know, I think that's part of it - if I am going to take a cruise, it is going to be relaxing. I love our jam-packed, fast-paced, uber-planned Disney vacations. But if we are going to cruise, what the heck! I am going to hang out and read a book! :rotfl2: Of course, if Willow decides that she hates the kids' club, I am going to be doomed because I really won't have a clue what to do every day! :scared1: :rotfl2:

I also am really impressed by your photobook! I have always said I'm going to do one, but I haven't. :sad2: How long does it take to get one back? Maybe I'll make one for DH to take with him on deployment. I bet he'd really like that. I could put in photos of me and Everett and even include the ultrasound pics of baby-to-be.

[B][COLOR="Navy"]Oooh - I want an update too!

Thanks for asking ladies! We have Maddie's dance recital this evening which is the very last thing we stayed here for. We move out of the hotel tomorrow, and on Monday morning we close on the new house. :woohoo: We'll move all our stuff in on Monday, and I'll spend the rest of the week unpacking. I am beyond excited to have a house again. We've been in hotels for 6 weeks now, and had our old house ready to show for 4 weeks before that. It's time.

Bryan is loving his new job, and I have an 'interview' (really just a chat with someone-nothing formal) on Wednesday.

Thanks again for asking. :goodvibes

That picture of Willow is precious. I can't believe that you have a photo book for every month of her life! I still haven't managed to develop and put pictures in an album. The last ones are from when she was 3 months old :rotfl2:. I did get 3 albums put together from her first WDW visit though. ;). It's been on my to-do list for 2 years. :lmao:

Can't wait to hear about the cruise. Cruising seems like the most relaxing way to do Disney. Hope that you find some mom time while you're sailing.:thumbsup2

It's definitely harder once you have a child(ren). But, I was so happy to be back in a house with a decent yard for Reid. The house we had been renting was very nice but it was a patio home so it only had a teeny tiny side yard. :sad2: Now, Reid gets to spend a lot more time outside & wear himself out! :rotfl: It's amazing how much better he's sleeping at night!

We do have a total blast with our countdown calendars! And the photo books are so easy! I use Shutterfly, and absolutely love the books they do. They are super-fun to make, easy, and quick. They ship within a day or two of placing your order, so you don't wait long at all. Check them out - they have nearly endless varieties of templates, and you can customize any page if you don't care for a particular page in a template album. Really fun!

Oh, I'm so happy for you to be so close to moving in - I would think living in limbo like that must have been very difficult. Yay for a house again!!!

:rotfl: Well, I used to a do a photo book for every month - I feel about a year and a half behind. :rotfl2: That said, I am now more than halfway through 2011 thanks to the kick in the booty I got from that 50%-off code. I am riding that wave of momentum to finish up the rest - I will just save them on Shutterfly and order when I get another great code. All that said, I have combined two or three months into one book several times for 2010 and 2011 because I did not take as many pictures in some of the months. But still, I'm so happy to be almost caught up, and Willow loves to look at the books. :thumbsup2

It's definitely harder once you have a child(ren). But, I was so happy to be back in a house with a decent yard for Reid. A good-size yard is really wonderful to have with an active kiddo. I wish we had a better one. Ours is tiny, and well, it is largely dog-ified. Now that Willow is 5 and 1/2 :sad1:, I have started letting her play out front - riding a bike, etc. She usually likes to have Oscar the Beast tied up out there with her, so that eases my mind a bit, and I have set strict boundaries about where she can go and can see her pretty much all the time. Still makes me nervous though! :rotfl2:

Oh goodness! Yes, it does indeed sound like you'll have to get something else sooner or later. But, at least it's not an urgent situation yet. Hopefully, that'll allow you time to find the best fit for y'all.

It's funny you talk about letting her play out front - I was thinking of that the other night. I'm nowhere close to letting Reid do that yet. But, I was thinking to myself that it wouldn't be too long until he wants to do that. Just thinking about it was enough to send me almost into a full-blown panic attack. I'm going to keep him locked up in the backyard as long as I can. :rotfl:

Hello!

So, apparently, word is I suck at PTRs! :confused3 :rotfl2: Well, that's my word anyway!

Regardless, I am going to soldier on because we only have 17 days left!!!!!!! :cheer2:

So my strategy of checking for Palo reservations a few times a week may have paid off. I scored us a dinner reservation at 7:00 on the second night of the cruise! However, in looking over some posts on the cruise board, it appear that it is likely that this will be formal night/Golden Mickeys night. What does that mean as far as our Palo reservation? I have no idea! :rotfl2: I guess I'm worried about missing some of the other fun that night. Anyone have any idea on this? I know that DD will be looking forward to dressing up for dinner that night, so going to dinner without her might be kind of sad. Or not - she might prefer the Kids Club. :confused3 And what about the Golden Mickeys? I'm assuming there will be a show we can go to before dinner, but I have no idea! :rotfl2:

You all are never going to believe this one! But I have actually been making magnets the last few evenings! For our stateroom doors! I am now officially a Giant DIS Dork!  But how could I not? Have you seen some of the incredible designs that folks on here have offered up? Amazing! So yeah, I am now a crafter! :rolleyes1

And we have been diligently keeping up with our countdown calendar. Just a few days of pictures for you all. ;)

OMG! I can't believe y'all only have 17 days left! :dance3:

That's great that you got a Palo reservation! :woohoo: I would just keep it & not worry about the other stuff you may miss. Willow will have so much fun in the kids club. She won't mind spending more time in there! I don't know what the show times are on the boat y'all are going on. But, if there is a show earlier, while you're getting ready, it may be on the TV. I know on the Dream, any time there was a show going on, it was also shown at that time on a certain channel on the TV.

And you're making magnets now?!? :yay: I'm glad you made some - then you can tell me how to make them for our cruise next May. :rotfl:

The countdown calendar & surprises are so cute! My favorite was the goggles on Minnie.

Okay, thank you! I have been really in a tizzy over Palo versus Formal Night versus Golden Mickeys. Thank you for the advice. I think I will keep the reservation. Honestly, my mom and her friend and probably I will enjoy going there more anyway, and DD will not know the difference - she can wear a princess dress to dinner any night if she wants!

:rotfl2: Can you believe I have been making magnets????? It will be a miracle if they hold up. :rotfl2: I just couldn't resist when I started checking out the great things that people on here had created and made public for others to use. So fun!

How's the house?????

I know nothing of DCL, so I can't help with the reservation/show problem.

Yay for being crafty though!! The magnets and such that people do are really cute, you'll have to share pictures of how yours turn out. Are you doing FE too?

Love the pictures! We are slowly building our stash of supporting cast and villain dolls. We only have one price to go (Mulan guy) so I've been buying the fun ones. DD got Fairy Godmother for Easter, and I think I'll get the Genie next. :thumbsup2

How cute that she loved the Spiderman shirt! Mads is getting into superheroes as well thanks to my little brother.

Only 17 days! How exciting!

I don't think its strange at all the Willow was excited about gum, if I actually let Everett have a piece of gum, I bet he would feel like he won the lottery! :rotfl: Its funny the little things that kids just love!

I'm really glad you got into Palo! I would keep the reservation, from everything I heard it is well worth it! I can't wait to read about it in your TR!

I also want to see your magnets! I'm craft-challenged, so I'm always really interested in what other people can do!

How is the job hunt going, any bites yet?

I will definitely take pics of the magnets - IF they actually stick to our doors! :rotfl2: I am just not a truly crafty person. :confused3 I am not doing FE - it's too much pressure. I know that I would be stressing so bad right now knowing that I had to have all those gifts ready, a way to pack them, etc. I couldn't take that pressure on top of regular life! :rotfl2:

You are WAY ahead of us in the doll collection. I think I should probably be thankful we don't have a bigger house - if we did, I would probably be buying even more of this stuff! Ursula is Willow's first villain. ;)

I have NO idea how Willow even knows who Spiderman is! :confused3 But she has been asking for a Spidey shirt for a couple of months. Of course, she was going to wear it this morning, but then came out in a different shirt saying that it was "too red."

Ok Roni....so I'm WAY late! Will have to go back and read!!!

:cheer2: So glad to see you here, Heather! I am so excited for your cruise and WDW stay. Hmm, okay, I'm really just excited for the TR! :rotfl2:

How is the job hunt going, any bites yet?
:rotfl2: Yeah, gum is still relatively new and exciting for Willow, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she is so psyched about it.

I think we will definitely keep the Palo reservation. I am hoping that "formal night" is more directed at the other restaurants - I really don't have anything formal, and I refuse to spend a bunch of money on a dress I will hate because of how fat I am! :rotfl2:

"Craft-challenged"!!!! :rotfl2: Me too!!! I can't believe I took on this project. I'm sure that my print-outs will end up peeling off the magnet backing and/or the magnets won't be strong enough for the doors or something else entirely ridiculous!

The job "hunt" is still on. But I just can't bring myself to try very hard. Which would probably explain why I haven't gotten a new job yet! :rotfl2: I am so torn about the need to make more money and move somewhere less expensive and the desire to stay near my parents, not stress about being unable to sell this house, etc. It will have to happen eventually, but it is hard to face that reality. :confused3

No suckiness whatsoever,I love it! Thanks for the Willow pic fix! Great job Roni!!! And so close! So close!

Well, right now, I am supposed to be at a hotel in Portland preparing for a two-day conference, coming home on Friday. Willow is supposed to be having her first-ever sleep-over with her grandparents. Instead, we are home. Yep - Willow's preschool called for me to pick her up yesterday because she had a headache and a fever. I thought she would probably be fine and able to go to my parents' house today. I even took her over there, but she was so pathetic that I couldn't leave. So I had to call in and say that I couldn't make it to the conference. Not exactly something I wanted to have to do! :scared1: Thankfully, it seems like everyone is being very understanding about it (or at least pretending to be).

Anyway, I am home and doing nothing but surfing the DIS at this point - I only brought so much telework work home with me. :headache: So I might as well update!

Okay, to be fair, I don't really have much to update. We had a good weekend. I work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and one of our projects was celebrating its 50th birthday with an open house, so we went out to that. Willow liked the cake!
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a98/LoveMyBullmastiff/Pre-Cruise%202012/0c2f6005.jpg

Willow had some, um, issues with not listening to her mother this weekend, so she lost the privilege of doing her calendar for several nights. She redeemed herself yesterday and got to play catch-up. Here are a couple of her finds. (You can tell that she wasn't feeling 100% in these.)

I hope you don't mind if I pop in and say hi:wave2:

I have you seen you post on some TRs I've been following (Amanda and Shannon's) and I followed your link. I had to join in because an Alaskan cruise is my DH's absolute dream vacation! I would love to see how your cruise goes as I know next to nothing about cruising to Alaska!

Your daughter is absolutely adorable! I'm sorry she hasn't been feeling well, my DD was sick this weekend too. Oh and do I hear you on the not listening. I think you said she's 5? My son is 5 and he was originally on restriction for a week but the days keep growing because he still won't listen:confused3.

I'm going to go catch up on your plans now!

You know how you always hear about the terrible 2s? (I thought 3 was way worse) Why doesn't anyone ever tell you about the "teenager attitude 5s"? I am so sick of Maddie not listening and giving me attitude! Today I gave her a 5 minute warning before we left the pool. When I said it was time to go she said "Um, mom? I'm here to report that 5 year old boys have the " teenager 5s" too:rotfl2:

I get the "um, mom" responses too. Drive me nuts. I also have been getting "your not the boss of me," and "I can if I want." We sat Anthony down and were talking to him about listening to grown-ups and he said, "Well I've been a grown-up since I was 3." The attitude is so nasty but what he's saying is funny too because he is dead serious. There's never a dull moment!

How about an update??? :confused3

So, today, before I got The Call to pick up Willow, I made a little call to the nice Disney folks to place a couple of orders.

I ordered a 24-pack of bottled water for us to enjoy during the week. Willow and I like to keep hydrated. :thumbsup2

I also ordered the "Bon Voyage - Leave shore in luxury with an opulent selection of Champagne, petit fours and chocolate strawberries." This little treat will be awaiting us in our stateroom when we arrive! :woohoo:

After I had placed the order, I told the woman that I had heard a rumor that there was a number I could call to find out what movies would be playing on board during our cruise. I was hoping she could give me that number. She could not - instead, she looked it up for me and listed all the movies! Here they are:

In 3D:
POC (I'm assuming the most recent one, which I have not seen, so :woohoo:)
John Carter
Cars 2 - we haven't seen it yet, so :woohoo: again!
BRAVE!!!!!!! We were so hoping that this would be showing, and we are now PSYCHED! :cool1: :yay:

And regular D :rolleyes1:
The Help (would like to see this in the theater)
Real Steel
The Muppets (loved this and would see it again)
War Horse (was really wanting to see this and sad to have missed it, so :woohoo:)
Avengers (not sure whether I want to see this one :confused3)
Chimpanzee (really, really wanted to see this with Willow but didn't get the chance; now we might! :woohoo:)

Is it wrong if I spend my entire cruise going to the movies? :confused3 I NEVER get to go to the movies in real life, so I am weirdly over-excited about this list of movies! :rotfl2:

Willow doesn't really know any superheroes (I have NO idea how she knows about Spidey), but maybe this would be an opportunity for her to get to know them? :confused3 There was a thread on the Community Board about a rather negative message for adoptees at some point in the movie (I have no doubt that it was unintentional and probably wouldn't even be noted by non-adoptive families) - at least I think it was that movie???? - now I'm not sure. :rotfl2: Anyway, I believe in watching and explaining, but I'm not sure I want to do that on a cruise/vacation. Hmm, I think I will wait and see if she has any interest in seeing it. :confused3

I don't want to give anything away, but I'll tell you what it is said in the movie. If you don't want to know, don't read.

Background: Thor is a good guy (he's 1 of the Avengers). Loki is a bad guy & he is Thor's adoptive brother. Loki is the main bad guy in the movie that the Avengers are battling. At a point in the movie someone says something to Thor about that being his brother. And Thor basically says, "He's adopted." I don't know how you or Willow feel about that. But, I just wanted to let you know the basic setup of what the context is & what is said.

Hope that helped at least a little.

I hope Willow's feeling better soon.

Good for you, treating yourself to some champagne and treats!

Awesome movie selection! DD and DH both really liked Chimpanzee. DD saw the Avengers with her uncle and loved it (but she watches super hero movies with him a lot). Yay for Brave!!! I think Merida's going to be my kind of princess, though probably not Maddie's :rotfl2:

Poor Willow. Hope she feels better real soon.

That is a great movie list! I really want to go see Brave this weekend. I don't go to the movies a lot either. I only go if it's something I really want to see and even then I don't always make it.

I hadn't planned on seeing Avengers with my DH and son until I got a good look at the actors in it :rolleyes1 But I thought it was good and I hadn't seen any of the previous movies. Like Amanda said it is a what's up with your brother being a bad guy question and Thor says he's adopted. I could see where that may bother some adopted children. You would be the best judge if that would bother Willow.

Ok, I read up on your excursion plans! They sound great, I can not wait to see pictures! Especially the dogs, I'm sure you will all have so much fun! A grown up dinner sounds soo nice! Willow seems like she's pretty out-going, I think she will like the Kids Club. Although kids are always full of surprises. You think they will like something and then all of a sudden they don't.:confused3 I hope you do get some time to relax on top of all the family time.

Your countdown calendar is adorable! I want to be crafty, I just feel like I don't have time to work on stuff. Add me to the list of people who want to see the magnets!

Thank you for the explanation. I hate "throw away" lines like that. :headache: I think how much discussion we would have to have after would depend on how much attention she was paying at that point of the movie. Given that she doesn't really know any super heroes at this point, I don't think I'll make a huge effort to see it with her. If it happens to be playing at a time when she really wants to see a movie, I will probably let her see it. :confused3

I hope Willow's feeling better soon.

Thanks - we are stuck at home again today. I really hope she gets over this soon. The cruise is looming!

My mom and I chose the particular package as a surprise for Willow and my mom's best friend. The 3 grown-ups can enjoy the Champagne, Willow and the older grown-ups can enjoy the little cakes, and everyone can enjoy the strawberries. :thumbsup2

What super hero movies has Maddie seen? I think Willow might enjoy getting to know super heroes, but I don't have a clue what movies are out there that might be appropriate. Help? :confused3

I have the same feeling about Brave - I think I will love her. I think Willow MAY love her - she has a pretty dress and awesome hair. Willow digs Tiana, and she's a pretty tough princess. She has definitely been wanting to see the movie ever since she saw the previews.

Thanks for the info on The Avengers. Maybe I will go see it by myself!

I think Willow will like the Kids Club a lot, but as you say, you can just never predict! :confused3 She is very outgoing and loves to make new friends, but she could just as easily get clingy and not want to be there. I am hoping that she likes it a lot but not so much that I never see her! :thumbsup2

Thanks on the calendar. I am not craft AT ALL! My friend at work and I slap a calendar together every year during a half-hour lunch break. It works for me! :rotfl2: I will definitely take pics of the magnets on our stateroom doors - I don't really have anywhere here to display them for a picture.

I think your movie list sounds AWESOME! I never see movies either, so there are very few on the list that I have seen (other than Cars 2 and the Muppets) I can totally understand wanting to go see them on the ship, I think I'd want to spend the whole cruise in the movie theater too! :rotfl2:

I am hoping to go see Brave tonight, but that all depends on DH. He's driving up to CT from Virginia today, and I hope he won't be too tired. If he is I might just go alone! Its so rare to have a babysitter, I'm going to take advantage of it, even if it means going out solo!

I hope Willow kicks this bug once and for all and is feeling better for the weekend!

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in even though you didn't ask. :rotfl2: Captain America is a really good movie! And there's nothing really bad in it for kids. Ed & I watched it one weekend & we now wish we had let Reid watch it with us. I will probably rent it again for him.

Thor is also good but again, adoption does play a role in the movie. So, you may wish to hold off on that one until you're up to discussions.

The Incredible Hulk (make sure it's the one with Edward Norton) is also really good. Just make sure it's the one with him & Liv Tyler. There was another one that was done before this version & it's just a bad movie.

The Spiderman movies are also good. Reid has seen those & has been fine with them. Guess it also depends on how Willow reacts to scary villains & such.

I don't usually watch them with Maddie, she watches with Uncle Cory, so I can't promise that they're all as clean as I'd like them to be. (Sometimes Uncles can play a little fast and loose with the rules.:lmao:)

I know that her favorite is the Green Lantern --Ryan Reynolds is in it for the moms!

She also liked the Hulk-the one with Ed Norton like Amanda said

They've watched Spiderman together, but it's not her fave.

She really wants to see Captain America, but we haven't yet.

Merida's hair is awesome! Maddie got a Merida doll as a "being brave about the move/doing great at dance recital" present and she loves it.

Tiana is as good example of a 'tough' princess, Maddie loves her too. We are also fans of Mulan so I think Maddie will enjoy her.

If only she wore a sparkly dress, maybe we could get these girls on board with a princess who has a mind of her own! :lmao:

Okay, so I just have to say that Willow and I are starting to get really excited about this cruise! I know that I have been a little wishy-washy due to the fact that I don't know what to expect and it is not our usual way of vacationing.

But that movie list really got me looking at the positives of a less-stressful vacation. And tonight, I found some old Navigators from 2011, and it looks like there are just TONS of fun things to do all the time. The Kids Club activities sound so fun, the family activities sound so fun, the adult activities sound so fun. I think this is going to be good! My mom even called me last night and said that she was getting really excited to go! :woohoo:

Okay, I admit that wasn't much of an update, but hey, what is there left for me to say????? :confused3 :rotfl2:

I discovered that packing for this trip is very different, and I am beat! :headache:

We spent the first half of the day running errands - you know, picking up prescriptions, rain gear, tights :scared1: in case I decide to brave wearing a skirt. Hmm, that deserves a second :scared1: at least!!! :rotfl: I also did 4 loads of laundry - bedding mostly, but last minute clothes that we wanted to take on the trip as well.

And then it was time to pack. We have SO much stuff!!!! I can't even believe it! But you have to pack for cold weather, so coats, gloves, hats, sweaters, etc. And you have to pack something to wear while lounging around or going on an excursion, something to change into for dinner, something to wear out at night if you are lucky enough that your child wants to stay in the kids club. :rolleyes1 It is insane!!! I am so glad we are not flying! :rotfl:

Anyway, sorry for the rambling! I am 90% packed and will do the rest in the morning before taking the dog to the kennel. I can't believe the day is almost here!!!!! :cheer2:

Good Morning Roni!

Are you excited or what??!!! We just got back yesterday...y'all are going to have an AWESOME time!!!!! Our family loved every minute of the Dream!!! Can't wait to hear about your experience!

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks Amanda! I am going to be honest - I have NEVER felt this stressed out about packing. If we cruise again, I will definitely start a lot earlier. Part of the stress was just trying to find clothes that would even come close to "formal" or "semi-formal," but even after getting over that, I was just so overwhelmed by it all. That is not really like me at all. :rotfl: But searching the house for our coats and winter hats in July - I don't know, it really threw me off my game! :rotfl2:

I absolutely would not know what to do in truly cold weather. :sad2: At most, we need a heavy jacket in the winter. But no true winter coats. Now, the hot clothes, we definitely have that. That's almost a year-round wardrobe down here.

Thanks. I let her stay up WAY too late last night, so it is probably my fault. (We had gone to my hair stylist after work/school to hang out and to get tinsels put in her hair, and then she wanted to watch a movie when we got home, and I, for some unknown reason, decided what the heck - who cares - do it! Bad idea.....) I was kind of hoping that I could ease her into the late nights of vacation, but I think it was a bad idea. :confused3 Hopefully, the Disney magic will take hold on the ship, and she will be able to stay up late without turning into a nightmare the next day. That's how it works at WDW and DLR, so :confused3.

Roni-I'm so sorry that Willow gave you such a hard time right before the vacation. You know that I can relate. I even said to DH last night about her dramatic sobbing over bedtime "if she's like this now, I don't even want to see 13". And, even if you know it's because they're over-tired it doesn't make it any easiter to deal with. Omg possible appendicitis before the trip:scared1: I'm so glad Willow was ok!

Willow looked adorable after her BBB makeover! CRT looks great, I really hope one day Tessa will be interested in princesses. I love all Willow's princess dresses! I enjoyed seeing what she was wearing each day.

My kids love BTMRR too! Very fun. TOT is my favorite ride! Anthony rode it once with Chad and refuses to ride again.:sad2: I need Willow to give him a pep talk:laughing:

I love all the character pics! Precious! I love the characters but unfortunately Tessa is scared of them:sad1: Anthony likes them but will not meet girls:rotfl2: Hopefully one day I can get pics like these though!

I have to do MNSSHP one day! I love Halloween. If I ever go I'm dressing as Cruella. My DH has called me that a few times:rolleyes1:rotfl:

That is so nice of you to go back and read the October report! We did have such a magical trip. And a possibly even MORE magical Disneyland trip!

I did rent points for the BWV. I have a friend (from an online adoption agency message board and now Facebook, actually) who is a DVC member. She brokered the entire deal for me, so it didn't seem totally scary. I would do it again though using Dave (or whatever his name is who advertises on here) - it was soooo worth it!

Funny you ask that question! Ed & I have been discussing that tonight. It'll be either one of two scenarios:

1. Arrive early on the Friday & do MK & sleep @ MK. Cruise Saturday to Saturday. Go back to WDW on that Sat & do 1 more day & night there. Go home Sunday.

OR

2. Get there Thursday. Do 2 nights of WDW & then the cruise. Head straight home after getting off of the cruise.

A lot of it will just depend on Ed's job & what he has going on at the time.

I felt exactly the same way!!! I still feel torn.

HOWEVER, I realized on this trip that this is a way for me to get to do other things with DD in a way that is fun for both of us and very safe and easy for me as an only parent. We can see other parts of the world without the stress of dragging a young child around by myself. So I am very pro-cruise now - at least for us. :thumbsup2 I will also say that I am betting that we will have a lot more fun on our next cruise - just as we had a lot more fun on our second WDW vacation. ;)

You guys are cracking me up! I'm guessing that you enjoyed the cruise then? ;)

I still don't know if I'm ready to give up park time! We really can only do one big vacation per year, and I'm just now sure if I can only do a few days at WDW! I'm scared!

Is the new TR ready yet? Maybe that will help convince me....:rotfl:

Even tonight I was asking Ed if we were doing the right thing by doing a long cruise. I'm always so worried that I'll miss the parks. But, the cruise is terrific & you're still surrounded by Disneyness.

And......the cruise ships are a terrific place to meet characters! All the princesses line up & you can knock them out all at once. Every morning, you get a navigator in your room with everything that is going on.....including all the character meets. They even do character meets on the Disney island Castaway Cay.....and dance parties with characters. I know Maddie likes her characters....and she likes dancing! :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: I don't think it will be hard to guess at all, but I thank you for your discretion. ;)

And, of course, there is always the possibility that we will cancel it completely or change cruises entirely! :confused3 :rotfl:

Well, I wouldn't cancel it but change it......maybe. Eastern....Eastern....Eastern.

They also meet TONS of characters in the kids club. This was a mixed blessing though - DD had met them and didn't care that much about hunting them down elsewhere. But I had not gotten pictures!!!! :scared: :rotfl2: Again, I am sure that, had it been just the two of us, it would have been a little different. :confused3 We shall see. :thumbsup2

And, Amanda, I think you may not have guessed. :rolleyes1

I hand out the suspense, I don't do well dealing with it being given to me. :rotfl2:

You know you can change your sailing dates, right? Again, just saying. :lmao::rotfl:

Thank you!

DD's behavior was less than stellar, but we still managed to have a good time. :thumbsup2 Honestly, I think we do better when it is just the two of us on vacation - when we take others, I get too stressed out about keeping everyone happy. I thought I had learned that lesson a couple of years ago....... :rotfl2:

Isn't that always the way. We take care of everyone else first! Glad you had a good time and got some relaxing in! Do instead of the terrible 2s..Willow had the Ferocious 5s...
