We usually leave CT at around 1430 (DW is a school teacher). Take 95 to the Merrit then veer off to the Tappan Zee and head back to 95 all the way to FLA. Seems to work, but I am wondering what other routes ppl take that works well for them. Thank you.

Another driver from CT here. We usually go pretty much the same way. We have also gone 84 to 81 south. down to 77 in Virginia near TN and NC and then followed 77 to 26 back to 95 in SC just north of GA. It is a very pretty ride through the Shenandoah mountains but it does add a few hours.

Our top priority is minimum time in the car, although this next time we might have a later check in. Well safety then speed.

Thats usually the case with us as well. Thats why we usually use the route you mentioned. Safe Driving!

We are in Central CT. We have been going to WDW for 8 yrs now. We take the Merritt into NY to the GWB. Hop on NJTP and stay on 95 till Maryland. We take either tunnel and then get on 295 (avoiding the DC loop). We get off in Lorton VA and put the van onto the Autotrain. The train takes us to Sanford FL and then we drive to WDW.
We do leave at 2am and avoid all rush hour traffic. Stopping in MD for breakfast around 7 am. We typically arrive in Lorton around 1030 am. The Autotrain typically arrives in Sanford around 9 am the next morning.
In '08 Tropical Storm Fay cancelled our return train. We decided that we would stay till the next train our (5 days later) than drive the entire way home. Our youngest was 14 months at the time. It was the best trip ever despite the rain. We were very grateful that we were able to stay the extra days.
I once travelled w/ DM to Lorton and we did the tappenzee bridge and NJP. That was a nightmare. soo many toll stops and mostly likley DM's driving too :scared1::scared1: She drove the DC loop too:scared1::scared1:
A few years ago we got a NY EZpass. What a difference that made to our trips. Soo much easier than having to stop and pay each toll. I have no idea why DH didn't have one since his family is in NYC. The EZ pass is free - just request it from NY and we have a CC attached to it so it reloads when it gets down to $10.
Good luck with the trip!
