I was wondering if any of you ladies have traveled on an amended passport after changing your name? DH and I are leaving for our honeymoon in 3 days (YIPPEEE) and I know you need your passport for the cruise. Mine just doesn't feel official with my new name just typed on a separate page on the back....

Lisa,
I thought the same thing!!! Doesn't it look like you changed it yourself!!! It is fine. We traveled thru Europe and it never was an issue. They swipe the passport, the name doesn't match so they look on the back page. It really looks less than official. Laurie

Thanks, Laurie! I feel better now (we're also going to Europe next summer and was wondering if that would be ok for then as well!!) I was terrified when I got my passport back since they made a mistkae typing when they changed my name and had to stamp VOID on the first page they tired. They then re-typed it on another page so one page of my passport says VOID!

I have an amended passport. Where they typed in my "new" name, they impressed a seal over it. Run your hand over the page and you'll feel it. While it does look like anyone could have typed it in there, it's official :)

Thanks, julie. I tired running my fingers over it and didn't feel anything... is it one of those things that's imprinted on tha page and hard to see/feel?

Lisa,
My passport doesnt have a seal on it either!
Do not fret it is updated in their computer that is all that matters.
If you have a copy of your marriage licence just carry it with you. Yea!!! another thing to remember. We think it looks funny but trained officials know that that is the way is should look. L

Hmm.. no, it's a raised seal... like a notary public would put on a document. Maybe cause I took it directly to the passport agency in DC? Not sure... But I remember thinking when it got back - "That was a lot of hassle just for someone to type on one of the pages" heh

Strange, but DH wants me to bring a copy of our marriage certificate just in case so I already put one with our docs. I"m sure I won't have any problems, but he's paranoid about it!! Thanks again for all your help!

Sounds pretty easy to do. Here are the details...

Bemily, I didn't check out the website that Dave posted, but what I did was go to my local passport office with my original marrigae certificate and they have forms there to fill out. You give them your certificate (they keep the origianl and return it to you with your amended passport) and give them the form and that's it. 6 weeks later, you get in the mail your certificate and passport. The amendment is jsut onthe back page, they type in something like "This passport amended on {date} to change name to {new name}" or something to that affect....

I just wanted to say that I traveled extensively in italy after getting my passport ammended to reflect my married name and it was never a problem. People barely even looked at my passport at all (but that was before 9/11). I couldn't believe it, actually.
