Hi! My name is Rachel and if you are one of the five people who read my PTR (link in my signature,) thanks for following over here!
My best friend, her 11 yo daughter, and I spent 8 days at POFQ, and having a grand time throughout the parks. We were on DDP so I have food pics as well as tons of photos from two cameras, two phones, and photo pass (when I finish editing them, oy.)
So here goes!
Monday January 30th 2012
I woke up at my normal time (5:30 AM) and got ready for work, packing my toiletries as I went. Then I checked into our flight for the next day, and double checked all my luggage. We were staying overnight at the Holiday Inn Express near the airport for two reasons. One, our flight was at 6:30 AM and we live 35 minutes from the airport and that's just too early to be on the road. Two, we live in CT and the chance of buckets of snow was too great a chance to take.
Then I was the subject of the "You can't possibly leave me for a week!" look from Sadie.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0491.jpg
Off to work! Longest Day Ever. Seriously.
At about two-thirty I get a call from a local number, but one I don't know. It turns out to be the manager of the Holiday Inn Express. Now in my experience when people call you before you are going to stay/eat/play at a place it's never good news. Nobody calls to say, "Hey, we've decided to comp your stay!" or "You wouldn't mind if we upgraded you to a suite, would you?" No. That never happens. So now I am slightly freaking out over either (A) our reservation being screwed up or (B) them telling me their airport shuttle wasn't running, and we would have to walk to the airport at 4:30 in the morning.
It turns out that their elevator broke and wouldn't be fixed until the next day. On my scale of awfulness, this barely reaches a 2. Especially when she said we would be on the second floor. No problem. She then became very effusive is her thanks for my not flipping out (my words not her's) over the elevator thing.
So I got home and then my parents (who were driving us to the hotel) arrived, we packed up the car and off we went. We had dinner at Ruby Tuesday's, and no I did not take pictures. I did really like what I had for dinner though, it was a Medditerrean Shrimp Pasta, and it was gooood.
My parents dropped us off at the hotel, this is our room. It was quite big and the sofa was a sofa bed, so Noelle got her own one instead of sharing with her mom! There was only one problem, which I will go into later.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0492.jpg
5 minutes later, Noelle was ready for the pool.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0493.jpg
So off we went! I wasn't paying attention to the focus with this photo, so instead of a smiling Noelle, you get a lovely photo of my pedicure.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0495.jpg
Noelle swam for about an hour,
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0497.jpg
while I read my Nook.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0498.jpg
Then we headed back up, took showers and went to bed. Which is when we noticed the problem. The beds were soooooo un-com-for-table. Both Nina & I were able to doze on our respective beds but between excitedness of the vacation and the suckiness of the beds, no deep sleep was going to happen.
Up Next: First day at Disney!

Looking forward to your report. The end of my trip coincided with the beginning of yours. We also stayed at POFQ. I'm hoping to post my own trip report 1/29-2/4. It was our first visit to WDW, our sons' first plane ride, their 7th birthday on 2/3 (twins). And, this will be my first trip report - if i can figure out how to post the pix and i'd like to create links to each day. only time will tell . . .

We all got up around 4-ish and got all our stuff downstairs.
Our Stuff:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/2012-01-31044906.jpg
The Holiday Inn has a free breakfast, but we were too early for that, but they did have fruit, pastries, and yogurt, plus cofee and tea. Nina & Noelle each had a banana, and I had a yogurt and tea.
We took the shuttle to the airport and checked in our luggage, thankfully under the 50 lb limit JetBlue imposes. We saw the Lego Mark Twain house on the way to security:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0499.jpg
It was pretty neat. We made it through security fine, although Noelle's bag needed to be searched as the mini M & M tubes filled with pennies and quarters (for pressed pennies) confuzzled the screener. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
The funniest was the guy asked if there was anything sharp that would stick or cut him, and it was so hard not to say, "Noelle, did you pack your knife collection?" Thankfully I held myself back.
After a quick breakfast
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0500.jpg
at MCDs we headed off to the gate to board. The flight was fine and spent watching TV, as we were all too tired to do anything else. :rotfl:
We landed and took the faux monorail
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0501.jpg
(please excuse Noelle's hair, she went to bed with it wet, and woke up with it electrified)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0503.jpg
over to the main terminal. We took a wrong turn before we finally found Magical Express!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0505.jpg
We waited for awhile for a bus, when the most dreadful part of our vacation occured.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0506.jpg
Yep, no awesome ME bus for us, but the yellow Mears bus instead. Sigh, I guess if that's the worst part of our vacation, it was a pretty awesome vacation.
Our bus driver was really weird, going WAY overboard on the sob story to garner tips. I ignored him and just concentrated on getting this shot:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0510.jpg
SQUEE!!!
We were the first stop
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0513.jpg
and we headed off to registration to find out where we would be staying!
Next Up: Our room and lunch!

Oh it was nothing interesting, just I have a family, blah, blah, blah. He's worked at Mears for 15 years, and when Disney started ME it really cut into his livlihood. Nothing bad or anything, just um, guilting people into tipping gives a major ick factor.

So when last we left off our intrepid heros...
Just kidding!
We made it to POFQ and headed up to the Regstration desk. I had done on-line check-in, so it was a pretty quick transaction. The CM who handled us was earning her ears, which unfortunately led to a small problem. But before I get into that I will let you know that we were assigned Building 7, which was fine but next time we go we will request a closer building.
Now as to the problem, there was a small bit of construction going on. Now the construction wasn't the issue, but to get around it you had to choose one of two enclosed paths. Of course we did not know that if you took the wrong path you would wind up walking all the way around the resort (thank goodness it is a small resort.) The CM gestured to the wrong hallway and we took "the scenic route." :rotfl:
We made it to our room 7308 (the one with the red door,) which was a corner room! No view, but really I just wanted the natural light.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0516.jpg
The room was lovely!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0514.jpg
We immediatley changed to swimsuits and headed out to eat and swim!
This is Noelle's "I will be in a pool soon" face.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0517.jpg
Lunch was quite good, I had the chicken quesadilla, with rice and beans. Plus a chocolate dipped rice krispie treat for dessert. The quesadilla was good, I make mine seasoned, but this one wasn't. The rice and beans made up for it though, super delicious. The Krispie treat was saved for later!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0519.jpg
Noelle had the chili cheese dog with fries and a regular Rice Krispie treat. She said it was REALLY good. I think that is true as she ate the whole thing in the time it took me to eat one triangle of my meal. :rotfl2:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0520.jpg
Nina had the shrimp po'boy with a macaroni salad, and a chocolate croissant for dessert. She really liked the salad and the dessert, she liked the sandwitch too, but there was too much bread so she ended up just eating the innards.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0518.jpg
Overall we were really pleased with the offerings at the resort. Good, filling, and plenty of choices. We made a quick stop at the Jackson Square gift shop where I picked up this little guy:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0527.jpg
Now we were off to the pool, to Noelle's great relief!
Hey look, the Alligator plays the sax! (As does Noelle.)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0521.jpg
The plus of a moderate resort over a value in a kid's eyes? Two words.
Pool Slide.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0523.jpg
Noelle was in heaven. I, was cold. I lasted all of twenty minutes before I headed back to the room to shower and get ready for the evening. Noelle and Nina stayed poolside for another 45 min to an hour and then they came back to the room to get ready too!
Here's a couple of shots I took on my way back to the room:

So if you have started the next part of your TR and you have to get up to do something, but you leave your laptop open so you Photopass stuff can continue to upload, it's a good idea to check if your laptop is going to automatically shut down for an update. Or you will become annoyed and decide to punish your laptop by not touching it for a few days (because your laptop so has actual feelings!)
Moving on.
So as the song suggests, we headed off to DTD for a bit of shopping and sight seeing. I plan to do a souvenier post, but closer to the end so I will just leave you with: we bought stuff!
We headed off to the boat dock to DTD (one of the great pluses about staying at POFQ) and waited for a boat!
Look the boat!

Waiting (pensively) for the boat to dock.

After floating past the Treehouse Villas (probably the ONLY way I would "camp,") OKW, and SSR we arrived at our destination!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0539.jpg
We headed off to the Pin Traders, to get lanyards for our KTTW. Noelle had heard about pin trading, so she got a couple pins to start her off.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/IMG_0091.jpg
She then posed for all the ubiquitous shots downtown:

After we had finished our walk around DTD we hopped on a bus to fancytown AKA The Grand Floridian for a Royal dinner at 1900 Park Fare.
Noelle's new ride:

The next shot is one Nina took of Noelle, she didn't notice the wine glasses until after I uploaded the photos. :rotfl: I promise those are not Noelle's empty wine glasses, she prefers vodka.:rotfl2:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/IMG_0098.jpg
We had our photo taken, and we actually purchased it!!! It turned out really good, so when I get my photopass CD I will share it. We were seated very quickly and were seated in the main room in a really prominant spot. Our luck was running on the good side tonight and all of the characters saw us in the first 20 minutes, it was awesome.
First up Cinderella, who provided the title for this report. Noelle has pink streaks in her hair and I think that is the comment most princesses/fairies respond with when someone has non-natural color in their hair. Well we heard it a lot anyway!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0549.jpg
Next up Prince Charming:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/IMG_0100.jpg
Drucilla, who was very good:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0551.jpg
Lady Tremaine:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0552.jpg
And rounding it out with Anastasia:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0557.jpg
Somewhere in between the characters I took this shot of Nina & Noelle:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0555.jpg
And this one of the wall!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0556.jpg
By the time all the characters had come by, we were STARVING! Now I have to explain that I don't take buffet food pictures, no one ever starts eating at the same time and the plate isn't all prettified. We were expecting a pretty standard buffet, the main draw being the characters.
Um, the food was awesome. Believe me no one was more surprised than I was. Both soups I had (strawberry & butternut squash) were really good, as well as the green beans, and there was a burgandy chicken to die for. The desserts were standard, and we didn't really fall in love with anything, but that was okay since we had ordered this:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0558.jpg
Noelle was really surprised and happy:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a154/Oliquig/DSCN0560.jpg
It was really good, she ended up saving the chocolate slipper for another time, but did eat it.
We were very happy with our first Disney dinner, and took the REAL monorail back to MK to then catch a bus back to POFQ. It had been a very long day, so we packed it in pretty quick and went to sleep!
Up Next: Really? You're actually running? Have fun with that.

Looks like a great dinner! Savannah got LOTS of comments on her pink hair as well on our trip...and a few on her black fingernail polish!

Hahaha we always joke that we're entering fancy-pants territory when we go to the Grand Floridian too! That's pretty odd that people just abandoned wine glasses on top of random sculptures though!
I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner at 1900 PF!!

Can you order the slipper dessert anywhere or just at 1900 Park Fare? When we go we will be celebrating my daughters birthday, I know she would love that!
I just read your PTR. I loved your mini report about NYC. I am going to take my kids to the MONH this Spring. You were cracking me up about butterflies LOL.

I'm joining in! I don't have many people interested in my PTR is any! :rotfl: So I know how that feels! I have never been to 1900 Park Fare but it looks like fun & a nice place to be! Can't wait to read more. :goodvibes

I'll follow you, I only have 3 or 4 (very nice) people who have responded to mine.

I love 1900 Park Fare! The times that I've eaten there for dinner, the food has been really good too, even though some people have said otherwise.
My favorite part is definitely the step-family. They are just a riot. And awesome getting the chocolate slipper!

Love all the pics! I can't wait to try 1900 Park Fare for dinner on our next trip. I had the strawberry soup for breakfast last trip and I agree it is awesome. Can't wait to hear more about your trip and to see more pics.

Okay, even though you missed my post and didn't welcome me :sad2: I am now all caught up. Sounds like a great first day. We stayed at OKW and I love that boat to DTD.
1900 Park Fare looks really fun; I'll have to try to squeeze that in one of these trips.
