She's Your Daughter!!!! A Girls Trip -- Last Day & Departure Day -- Pages 76 & 77

For those of you who may be new and may have missed the PTR, here is how this trip came about.

MaryAZ posted on her Facebook wall that she was doing a mother/daughter trip in February. I posted back and asked "can I be your daughter too?" Mary replied, "there's room and you can come too." I told her that I didn't think Mark would EVER let me go to Disney World without him since he is such a kid at heart. But then again....Mark is going to Vegas in February without me (who cares that it is for work...he is getting away from Chicago in the winter time). I told Mary I would talk to Mark and see what he said but I didn't have high hopes that he would be agreeable to it. In the meantime, I got on the train to come home and Mary and I kept texting back and forth. She changed the dates to January 26 - 31 because flights were cheaper. I told her I'd let her know what Mark said.

So Mark and I got home and we were sitting at dinner and I brought the subject up to him. At first, he looked at me like I was absolutely nuts. Then I told him that the dates were originally February, but changed to January, and I had wanted to do something special around this time anyway as it was the five-year anniversary of me being cancer free. I said to him, "what better way to celebrate five years" than spending it at Disney with Mary and her adorable girls?" That was the trick...he said, sure go ahead.

And that is how our Disney trip came about.

Intros:

For those of you who have not read a previous PTR or TR of mine, I’m Kathy. I’m54 years old. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Mark, for 28-1/2 years.

My first trip to Disney was many moons ago with a girlfriend. While we enjoyed ourselves and had fun, I thought that I wouldn’t do Disney again for a very long time. Then Mark came into my life and we are both “old” kids who love everything Disney.

We are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Andy and Mark. Andy is 25 (soon to be 26) and still lives at home. Besides giving private baseball lessons, he also is an Assistant Varsity baseball coach at one of the local high schools (he also coaches a summer team and a fall team); Markie is 23 (and forever my baby) lives in Dubuque, Iowa. After graduation, Markie chose to remain in Dubuque and not move home. He has a girlfriend in Dubuque, most probably my future daughter-in-law and he is an Assistant Varsity wrestling coach at one of the high schools in Dubuque (he is also in charge of the youth wrestling program at the high school) and he works for an insurance company.

I have stayed at six resorts at Disney: All Star Sports (never again), Contemporary (okay, but no desire to go back), Polynesian (used to be our favorite), the Coronado Springs Resort (our “home away from home” for most trips), Old Key West and the Animal Kingdom Lodge/Kidani.

Heck ya! Despite the tears shed over seeing the Patriots lose:sad1:. It was a fun party...lots of BBQ wings, hot wings, homemade salsa, chips, pies and drinks and yelling. Good times.:thumbsup2 Too bad there's not a Superbowl every week.;)

Girl's Intros

I am going to do a brief introduction of each girl and then share some pics.

Avery is 7.5 and in 2nd grade. She is a very bright and creative little girl. While that is a blessing most of the time it can also have its challenges. She does very well in school and loves to read. She started gymnastics in July and has worked her way up 2 Rec levels. She is hoping to advance to an "Elite" status soon. She hopes to be a Marine Biologist when she grows up. Loves anything ocean related Av"s first trip to Disney was in May 2009 at the age of 5.

Cayley is 5 and in K this year. She loves school but is a perfectionist and can be very hard on herself. She has a great sense of humor for someone her age. She is full of personality and loves art. Cayley's first trip to WDW was also in May 2009 when she was 2

My plan had been to get up really early this morning so that I would be tired when I was on the plane and could nap. As most of you know, I hate flying with a passion. And this was the FIRST time I was flying alone in over 32 years. :scared1:

However, I went to bed the night before feeling another darn cold coming on. And sure enough, I woke up Thursday morning with a runny nose and feeling run down. I took my shower and drove to Starbucks and got my cappucinos (yes, I got 2) and some orange juice. I brought it home and paid some bills online while drinking my juice, popping pills, gargling with salt water, etc. I was determined I was going to fight this thing and NOT be sick for my trip.

Andy came home around 9:30 from work-outs with the baseball team and caught up on some shows we had DVRed while I did some DIS time and started getting antsy to go to the airport.

Although my flight was not until 2:25, at 11:45 I told him I needed to go to the airport even though it would only take 35 minutes or so because I was going crazy sitting at home getting nervous about the flight. I figured this way I could stop at Starbucks for another coffee, get something to nibble on the plane and try to calm my nerves.

Finally boarding started. Of course, I was in Seating 4 so was going to be one of the last ones on the plane (I hate when that happens). And, as luck would have it, the plane was full witih carryon luggage and there was NO room for my carryon. I purposely squeezed everything in so I wouldn't have to pay a luggage fee. But I did not pay the luggage fee because they took the luggage at the entrance of the plane and checked it for free.

We took off about 2:35. And I have to say I was very calm on the plane. I had an aisle seat and watched A Dolphin's Tale and took a short nap. There was no turbulence, no one got up to use the restroom. It was as perfect a flight as I've ever had.

I landed actually a few minutes early and texted Mary that I had landed. They had just landed too (they were a few minutes late). I asked if we were still meeting in the food court. She told me she was by the Disney Store and I said I would walk over there. Well, we forgot there were TWO Disney Stores at the airport and Mary was by the one by the Starbucks. So I walked over there to meet her and the girls.

I saw Mary and the girls were talking to her. So as I slowly approached, I bent down a little and said "I hear there is a girls' trip going on and I want to go too." And this is the reaction I got at the airport:

I think they were a little shocked at first and then they got excited.

We proceeded to chatter and headed down to baggage pick-up to get my luggage which ended up being checked and headed to the ME.

We're the same way. We hate sitting at home doing nothing before a trip. We'd rather sit at the airport and do nothing. It's still nothing, but it's nothing just a little closer to Disney World.

A win (especially for a flight that crowded). The fees and declining service levels have turned flying into nothing more then a bus ride. The glamour is long gone and that’s unfortunate.

Mary's Travel Day

Before I start let me say that I had some difficulty witht he picture taking this time around. I felt like the flash washed things out but no flash created blurriness. Maybe MEK can give me some tips...So you get some of each LOL

Unlike Ms Kathy, the girls and I love to fly. And the more bumps the better :) I am not a fan of getting to the airport early but Hubby had to get to work so off we went. First stop was Starbucks-an airport tradition

Avery had hot chocolate, Cayley a smoothie. We then made our way through security and to our gate. Girls pulled out their "electronics"

Right before boarding we went and grabbed some lunch from CPK. The flight was a little delayed and then we had to wait in line to take off. The flight itself was uneventful. My sweet Hubby got me a Kindle Fire and I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" and read. Cayley watched 2 movies. Avery watched one movie and played on her DS.

I was talking to the girls trying to keep them occupied while Ms Kathy made her move. They were both really shocked. And happy. I am trying to remember the cute thing Cay said when we were getting Kathy's luggage. Soon we were off to ME :)

Mary - I have the same problem with the face. If your camera has a P mode try that instead of the auto mode. I also use the TV mode a lot now and just adjust shutter speed. To get an idea of how its going to look practice changing your TV. The higher the number the longer your shutter will stay open. Decreasing the shutter speed can help with blur.

Your girls are just so adorable. I think they get cuter with every picture. I had no idea you were surprising them. Wow - what I would have given to see that!

Mary, the girls are simply too cute, they have such beautiful expressive eyes! Love the arrival day pics. They seem like seasoned pros when it comes to flying. I love how they're dressed alike too. I have three girls and when they were really little, I dressed all three of alike all the time. Well, until my oldest suddenly became too cool to dress like her younger sisters. Looking forward to hearing more!

Mary your girls are so sweet. Do they pick favorite princesses that reflect their blonde & brunette hair? My sister and I used to do that when we were this age. I always wanted to be the blonde, but "couldn't" because I had brown hair:rotfl: Kids!


However, I went to bed the night before feeling another darn cold coming on. And sure enough, I woke up Thursday morning with a runny nose and feeling run down. I took my shower and drove to Starbucks and got my cappucinos (yes, I got 2) and some orange juice. I brought it home and paid some bills online while drinking my juice, popping pills, gargling with salt water, etc. I was determined I was going to fight this thing and NOT be sick for my trip.

I was so hoping that your head cold was just an allergy or something. I hope the OJ & gargling helped.

I'm with Tim, a little whiskey in that coffee would totally kill any germs ;)



I saw Mary and the girls were talking to her. So as I slowly approached, I bent down a little and said "I hear there is a girls' trip going on and I want to go too." And this is the reaction I got at the airport:

A win (especially for a flight that crowded). The fees and declining service levels have turned flying into nothing more then a bus ride. The glamour is long gone and that’s unfortunate.

I agree again. Having to pay for a snack is ridiculous, no pillow or blanket, flight attendants basically ignoring you.

I can't belive how far behind I got. I worked the hardware store on the weekend( I don't know why we were opened, every one stayed at home to watch the Patriots loose!!) and I never checked the DIS boards. Girl, I hear ya on the flying thing....hate it!! Actually, I only hate it if there's turbulence, but I do get worked up before getting on!

It was fun doing a girls trip. Love my hubby....but it is nice to do Disney with just girls.

I'm kind of like you when it comes to getting to the airport. It is going to be boring sitting there doing nothing, but I tend to feel a little bit relaxed once I'm finally through security and sitting at the gate waiting to leave. However, if I was looking to calm my nerves, I think I'd be looking for something other than Starbucks. :lmao:

And since you never know what security will be like, it's always best to be there with time to spare. And wouldn't you know it, I was in and out of security in 8 minutes!

I'm glad the flight was uneventful and your bag actually made it, despite lack of carry on space.

The airlines have to do something about the people who carry on too much for a couple...with four bags between them.

Unlike Ms Kathy, the girls and I love to fly. And the more bumps the better :) I am not a fan of getting to the airport early but Hubby had to get to work so off we went. First stop was Starbucks-an airport tradition

Avery had hot chocolate, Cayley a smoothie. We then made our way through security and to our gate. Girls pulled out their "electronics"

Right before boarding we went and grabbed some lunch from CPK. The flight was a little delayed and then we had to wait in line to take off. The flight itself was uneventful. My sweet Hubby got me a Kindle Fire and I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" and read. Cayley watched 2 movies. Avery watched one movie and played on her DS.

I was talking to the girls trying to keep them occupied while Ms Kathy made her move. They were both really shocked. And happy. I am trying to remember the cute thing Cay said when we were getting Kathy's luggage. Soon we were off to ME :)

Thanks; the weather was pleasant but, truthfully, I would have preferred a few degrees warmer. But at least it wasn't cold or rainy. :)

So I left off with our arrival at the aiport and me surprising the girls.

We went down to baggage claim to find my luggage. It was not on the turning thing, but an employee had pulled it off to the side (guess with ur "surprise" we were a little late in getting down to retrieve my bag). Bag retrieved, we headed over to the ME and no one was there...we had our paperwork checked and were sent through. A very nice gentleman came over and asked us which resort and let us through as our bus was there -- and it was the Disney bus and NOT one of the fake buses. But I totally FORGOT to take a picture. My first ME experience and I forgot to take a picture.

I did try to take a couple of pictures of the video while on the bus, but they didn't turn out at all. I did get a pic of me and the girls though:

Since I finally got finished with my other TR I was thinking about starting up another to cover my other two trips last year. Think anybody would care to read along after I took so long with the last one? The bad part is, I'm not sure how much of the details I can remember after this long........ :laughing: Hopefully the pictures can give me a clue.

Tina, thank you. I LOVED DME going to the World...it was so convenient. I'm not sure Mark and I will use it because we always rent a car. Although we are thinking of using ME to go to Disney World, and then getting our rental car on property when it is time to go to Marco Island. The video was great!

Yay, arrival! First time on DME and you didn't get pics. Oh no.

I love Saratoga Springs for it's proximity to DTD. Great choice for heading out to dinner. Can't wait to hear where it was.

I truly cannot beleive I forgot to take a picture of the DME. Andy, our oldest son, just arrived in Orlando this morning and was taking ME to the BLT where he is meeting up with his girlfriend and her family. I asked him to take a picture, but I doubt he will.

We walked to DTD from SS on this trip...it was a pleasant walk.

Great 1st day update. I can't wait to hear where y'all ate.

If you were already at Disney, I'd say this was an extra bit of magic for you. But since you were at the airport, it was probably some very grumpy airport employee who just grabbed your bag and threw it. Hope you didn't have any breakables...

I think it was a grumpy airport employee who was not happy that I didn't get my luggage in a timely fashion. Oh well, if it had been ON the plane with me at my seat like it should have been, I wouldn't have been delayed.

We went down to baggage claim to find my luggage. It was not on the turning thing, but an employee had pulled it off to the side (guess with ur "surprise" we were a little late in getting down to retrieve my bag).

I went to take a quick walk to see if the boats were running to DTD which they were. :)

I met Mary at the desk and they asked if we were celebrating anything. Mary told them I was celebrating my five-year cancer free so they gave me a button and wrote on it: Five Years with No Cancer.

If any of them really want to know anything about buses (which I find mightily doubtful) just send them on over to my Macy’s TR… they’ll learn entirely too much about the humble bus over there I assure you.

As Ms kathy has told you we made our way to baggage claim to find her bag. We then walked to the ME peeps and gave them our paperwork. Funny story about this, I almost blew the surprise earlier by letting Av see the ME booklet-it had Kathy's name on it :scared1: When there was noone in our line for the bus I was a little nervous. I was very happy when a nice Disney man came and took us right to the waiting bus. We found some seats and i took these pics

We settled in for the ride and the video. I was a little bummed since Ms Kathy's tv screen kept skipping. We made it to OKW and checked in. The lobbby area is really cute. The girls were excited to recieve ballons. I did have to tell them to chill out a little though. We then hopped in the golf cart and found our room. The location was great. The only downside was we were right on the corner of the building overlooking the street. We did hear some bus beeping noise. We dropped off our stuff and made our way to the boat dock. The ride over was very nice. I don't usually post blurry pics but I so wish this one would have turned out better

We then docked at DTD and made our way to guest services. Bought our AP's and TIW card. I really hope that I can get my $$$ worth out of the AP's-airfare right now is killing me-over $200 PER WAY!!! We then headed to.....

no it's only 4 months old....actually exactly 4 months ago we were on the plane flying to WDW .... and to be fair I did do a mini TR in the midst of the OCT trip for our DEC DLR 2 day trip...and we leave again on Thursday for 5 more days at DLR, so will piggy back that onto OCT TR too :woohoo:

I'll do responses later, but wanted to share some pictures that Andy and Des sent to me from Disney World. Des has been in Florida for three weeks--different parts of Florida, and this week her and her family are at DW for the week, staying at BLT; Andy flew down yesterday and will stay until Thursday.
He arrived yesterday and they spent the afternoon touring BLT, POR-Riverside and had dinner at Ft. Wildnerness with Des' Aunt and Uncle who have a camper there. Then they watched Wishes from the beach at the Poly. They have a room at BLT with a view of Space Mountain and the Castle.

Andy golfed (Des' Valentine gift to him) with Des' dad and brother; they are at Wolfgang Puck for breakfast now and then going to Emeril's at CityWalk for dinner (Andy's treat). Tomorrow they are going to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

Bag retrieved, we headed over to the ME and no one was there...we had our paperwork checked and were sent through.
SCORE!

A very nice gentleman came over and asked us which resort and let us through as our bus was there -- and it was the Disney bus and NOT one of the fake buses.

We dropped off the girls and my carry on's and went to the boat to catch the boat to Downtown Disney.
I can't wait to do that when we are at POFQ

YAY for a real ME bus. Have to say, we have never NOT had an ME bus, so till I read it here, I didn't know there were other buses. Your & Mary's pictures with the girls on the bus are great.

The girls look like they are having fun at check in. I am guessing they got very very silly if Mary had to settle them.

I forgot that you arrived rather late - the peter pan balloon looks good in the dark. Nice luggage drop & ferry ride to DTD.

Yay for ME! Especially when it's a REAL Disney ME bus. I like to think of it as my first Disney ride.
The boats to DTD are my favorite part of staying in that area over there. I love it at nighttime.

We are taking the ME in September going to the resort (but not going back to the airport as we'll pick up a rental car at the Dolphin), and Mark is really looking forward to it.

They had a great time. They did MK and Epcot and did lots of character pictures, etc.

Okay, so everyone is aware, there was NO proposal. Although I expect there to be one with my other son within the next year, I don't see Andy doing it anytime soon. Not to sound mean, but as much as we LOVE Alisha and think her and Markie are perfect together, we're not so sure about Des and Andy. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think they need to wait and make sure for at least another year or two. ;)

So we got my park ticket and the girls got their AP's and we were on a mission -- we were all starving. We were going to go to WPE but couldn't remember where it was located and since I forgot my glasses and the girls were starving, we decided just to head to EOS. I was so happy about this because I LOVED EOS after our first time there in September.

I truly cannot remember if I bought anything this night. I may have picked up my 2012 magnet, but I don't remember.

Mary and the girls decided they needed some dessert. And where else do you stop when at DTD for dessert? Well, no place but Ghirardelli's.

They have these cute girl lego sets and each of the girls got one.

It was then time to go so we headed back to the boat for our ride back to Old Key West.

Once back, we stopped at Old Key West for some medicine for me and some donuts and milk for the girls for breakfast. We got back to our room, and Mary and the girls' luggage had arrived. They unpacked (I lived out of my so-called "carry on") and then we set the wake-up call (after we finally figured it out), the girls called their daddy and it was time for bed.
