Any Girl Scout ideas for the Bronze Award?

For their bronze award, last year, my oldest daughter's troop organized and ran 'Girl Scout Thinking Day' for the girl scouts in our town. Other ideas they had were organizing/running a 'Daisy Tea' for Daisy troops and putting on an event for senior citizens--talent show/bingo/etc.

Did crafts/activities at a local senior center. (two of the girls are continuing it for their silver.) For her silver my DD is collecting books for s local homeless shelter and organizing them. Ronald McDonald house is another great place to go if you have one. Have fun!

We are currently working on our Bronze Award. My troop has decided to split in two, for two separate ideas.

The first group is going to work at a retirement/assisted living facility. They are going to make "visiting boxes", which will contain activities for families when they come visit. They are also going to do some landscaping, making care baskets and collecting socks/hats for residents.

The other half of my troop is working at a county nature center to do some upkeep on their trails after any damage from winter. They will pick up litter, do some planting, water plants, etc.

Our service unit just had a big open house activity for needs in our community. Some of the other ideas the kids liked were:
*Helping with Make a Wish
*Horse Rescue Farm
*Humane Society (but it seems that so many troops do this one)
*planting a vegetable garden for a needy community
*helping with Boys and Girls Clubs

I was hoping we could all agree on just one idea, but at least we now have our idea and can move forward. The not-knowing was a big stress for me.

Our troop chose to work with a Family Homeless Shelter. They were hoping to run programs for the children. As it turned out the child population consisted of mostly infants and a few elementary school aged kids so we had to get creative. The girls did a big Organization/Clean up of the Indoor play facility and in the Spring did a big clean up of the outdoor play area (leaves and sticks, oh my!).
They also held a few GS movie nights to earn money to buy needed essentials for the residents and held a Personal Care Items Drive to collect shampoo, soaps and lotions. What a great experience for the girls!

For her Bronze, my daughter (now a Senior) organized a Powder Puff Derby (a Pinewood Derby for Girl Scouts). She organized car-building clinics ahead of time and two sessions of races, broken down by ages. I think she had 60 girls participate.

She borrowed tracks from local BSA troops, and ordered car kits from the BSA office.

My DD and a friend are working on their Bronze. They're basically doing a USO type show (dance/singing/piano and maybe recorder playing) to take to different nursing homes. It's quite amusing letting them take the lead (hey, it's what you're supposed to do!) They have an interesting combo of songs.

Another pair in the troop are going to make cat beds and toys for a shelter.

My friend's troop made new bunk beds for the GS camp. (They were wonderful, but she was slightly insane. :rotfl:)

Have you gone through the BRonze planning stuff with them? We grandfathered under the old program, so not exactly sure how the new one is. But I think there's still a way for them to walk through them recognizing "something that needs to be done" and how to brainstorm ideas and think about who to contact... (DD's project was a direct result of our troop's Christmas carolling at a nursing home and a program director saying the residents would love entertainment other times of the year...)

We went with the old requiremets, since last year was the lat year you could use them

Our girls made an educational video for new leaders.

They did section on GS basics, songs, games, etc

They did a section for basic first aid and care

They did a section of ideas for different levels, how to earn a petal, a try-it and a badge.

They did a section on taking trips and travel

and they did a section on free or very low cost places to do here in town

They went to the next months training for new leaders and did a presentation and gave each leader a copy of the CD of all the videos.

Our troop organized a Bubbles and Blanket day - they invited all of the troops on our council to come for an evening and make fleece blankets for a local group that provides a blanket and bath kit for kids new to the foster system. They asked each girl to bring a shampoo to donate (the bubbles part) and fleece to make a blanket. We cut the fleece and the girls tied the knots. Our troop provided drinks and snacks and played a video of a talent show and set up a table to present information about foster care. We had 30 girls attend and they made 91 blankets to donate. They had a great time planning and putting it together.

My daughter and her 2 friends organized a Clean up day for our town in conjunction with the local cub scouts. They planned it, advertised it and it was a big success. We plan on keeping it going this year too as continuity is stressed for the bronze award.

Now she's getting started on the silver but wants to focus on hunger so I think she's going to contact the local food shelf and see what their needs are.
