Hi guys! :wave2:
I'm finally here and ready to write about our amazing time at WDW over New Year's. For those of you who didn't follow along on my PTR, it's below in my siggie, The Never Ending Pre Trip Report.
This trip felt like it was a long time coming. We had ups and downs getting there, but we were given an amazing trip because of it. There were crowds to contend with, some standing around and waiting, lots of fun, and a trip that will always be remembered. So come along for the ride! Here are the cast of characters:
Me - Danielle (FYI, I'm the yellow one on the left....)
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e6bb3e39.jpg
This picture actually describes me pretty well. I'm silly, I love to have fun, and I love Disney World. But I'm not always yellow. In case you were wondering. I'm more on the pink side.....
Farrell - My BFF
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/d49b010c.jpg
This picture also describes her pretty well. She's cute, tiny (kind of like Piglet), and cuddly. She's hilarious and comes up with some pretty funny quips along the way. We kept track of many of our funny conversations on this trip, for your reading enjoyment.
And we had a stowaway...
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/4066af46.jpg
*sigh* Yeti....he will be getting his own chapters on this trip. They may be short, but I hope to make them worth it.
So come along for the ride! It's going to be tons of fun!

Thanks! This was Yeti's 3rd trip. However, he didn't get too much action on one of them. This one was kind of jam packed for him.
Woo hoo! Joining in!! My condolences on the Packers - Giants game!
It was a good game. The Giants just simply outplayed us for sure. The Pack was way off their game. I'm not hugely upset though. They deserved to lose that game. :lmao:

My boyfriend JUST found this out, after having to call and track down the 40th anniversary vinylmations (the ones with the park logos?) we also forgot to pick up as a "I'm sorry for hitting you while trying to catch my in-an-indestructible-case-iPhone" gift. :rolleyes1 (Well, finding them - and getting some discounts - was the gift. I still had to pay for them! :rotfl: ) Those are probably the best phone CMs in all of Disney (you mean people on the phone can actually have correct information, are you crazy)

Like every other TR I start, this one sadly starts at work. Please play the tiniest violin you can find.
Our flight was not leaving until 9:10pm, so we didn't work an early shift, we worked our normal shift. We did manage to blow that joint at 4:30pm though. I think the entire building probably heard our Woo Hoos in the parking lot.
My carpool buddy Dave drove both Farrell and I home from work. Longest car ride ever! We just couldn't seem to get home fast enough.
We wanted to get on the road as soon as possible so I just tossed in the last minute items into my carryon before we left. I can't leave without my spackle, shellac, wigs, girdles, etc. Cannot forget that. Otherwise, you know my intro picture? Yeah, that's me on a good day. :scared1:
My parents drove us to the airport and we managed to get there around 6:45pm. We were flying out of Midway this time. Normally we fly out of Milwaukee, but the flights weren't the right price. Amazingly enough mydad got us there pretty quickly. Normally he's like Miss Daisy driving. You heard me right. Not driving Miss Daisy. Imagine that Miss Daisy drove herself. That would be my dad driving.....
We sobbed our goodbyes to each other and then headed into the airport to get our baggage checked.
Okay, here's another TSA rant (as if there aren't enough out there). I thought there was like a 3-3-1 rule on liquids. Three ounces, quart sized bag, yada yada.
So we're waiting in line for TSA and the chick in front of me busts out a gallon sized bag with various liquids in them. I mean like a gallon! Like, I could stuff my entire weeks worth of clothing and cosmetics and fit my dog in the bag too. So she nonchalantly dumps it into her bin and kind of covers it up with her coat. And TSA does not even notice. And it goes through. And she grabs it. And it's over.
Wait, what? If I tried that, it would have been a five alarm fire and I would have never made it through. Then, I would have had to go through the scanner, get patted down, then strip searched, then I'm not even going to talk about what would come next.
Consistency people! Just strip search everyone! (No, not really. Please don't strip search everyone).
We made it through TSA and then needed to decide where to eat for dinner. We decided on Harry Carey's. I mean, what's more Chicago than Harry Carey?
Farrell was very very excited and ready to get on the road for sure.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e2b6eea4.jpg
Now, pay attention to that picture. Those tables? Super close to each other. Like, we were up close and personal with everyone, and I'm not talking about Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Redford. You heard everything that was going on. Chew, chew, chew, bbbuuuurrrrppp. Not extremely appetizing. The food was decent though. I ordered chicken quesadillas.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c14c2445.jpg
And Farrell ordered macaroni and cheese. It hit the spot for what we were looking for.
Not too long after we had eaten it was time for us to line up for boarding. We flew Southwest, so we had to line up first (as many of you well know). We had paid for early bird boarding, so we were in the A group. We were basically right up front. That's okay with me. There was a little boy behind us with his grandparents and he noticed my backpack. It's my Disneyland Paris one. He said "look, she's been to Disneyland!" His grandma said "no sweetie, she's been to Disneyland Paris. That's much further away". He was awestruck for some reason. Then started to tell me that his sister was going to go to Paris the next year and he was going to give his tooth fairy money to her so she could have money to spend. Is that not the cutest thing you've ever heard? :cloud9:
We boarded very quickly after that. We actually sat in the exit row. No one sat next to us so we moved over. Well, that ended up being a mistake because I didn't realize that they were holding the plane for a connecting flight. Nnnnooooooo!!!!! Our plan had failed. Someone sat in between us (because we had moved over since we thought no one else was coming). FOILED!
The flight was pretty uneventful and Farrell fell asleep. I just listened to music and read my book on my iPad (Game of Thrones. LOVE IT!).
Seriously though, there was such a massive amount of leg room in this exit row. Like, the tray table was so far away from us. I'm surprised Farrell's feet touched the ground. There were just miles and miles between us and the seats and tray tables in front of us. RICOLA!
This is saying a lot because I have gibbon arms and I had a hard time reaching the tray table.
We did have a funny incident during landing though. Farrell was asleep basically the whole time. Well, the plane started to descend and then landed. And she jumped so high and grabbed onto the arm of our travel partner. She also started looking around like a crazy person. Man, I wish I had video taped that.
We landed on time at 12:45am. Deplaning didn't take too long and then we were in baggage claim. It took quite a while to get our luggage. There was this lady that kept on saying "there are like, 10 flights that landed all at the same time. That's why the luggage isn't here", over and over and over again. I was going to hit her with my carryon. Lady, it's now 1:20am, I don't have my luggage, and we are astute enough to realize that lots of flights have landed.
Finally our baggage came and we were heading out to the rental car area. I rented of Alamo for super cheap ($140 for the whole week) and had checked in ahead of time so we just walked out to grab the first car in our category we saw. A Chevy HHR. Which in Farrell's opinion is the equivalent of the PT Loser...ahem...Cruiser, but with more power. The car was clean and drivable though, so no complaints. It was so easy to go out and just pick the car.
We made it to the resort at about 2am. Aloha Poly! We were given the Tokelau longhouse, second floor, room 2944. We got our first visit button for Farrell and headed up. We were super close to the bus stop, which was cool.
Farrell's quote of the day?
"Wow, this place is nice. Classy. Look out people! You think you've seen class?! Well we're here now so you're not seeing it anymore!!"
Word.
We took our room in.

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/ab7f5d86.jpg
We both unpacked because we super anal retentive and knew if we didn't, we would never get around to it. We were finally ready for bed around 3am. Whew! We weren't getting a super early start to the morning, but still pretty late.
Snore........

Nice start - do you always fly Southwest? I'm heading out of O'Hare tomorrow and the AA rates were highly competitive with SW for the first time I've seen. Of course, that's because I'm only carrying on - I wish O'Hare had a SW terminal too.
That is hilarious about Farrell waking up so suddenly while you guys were landing!! That seems like something I would do! I can sleep like a baby on a plane; though I think they'd wake me up to tell me to put my seat up, since I always recline.

I normally try to fly Southwest or AirTran, because they fly out of Milwaukee and that airport is more convenient for me location wise. We chose Southwest this time because of the no baggage fees. I wish O'Hare had one too.
It was pretty funny when she woke up. Then she started looking around all cool like "oh, nothing really happened". I never sleep on planes, but I do the doze a little and then scare yourself awake thing.

Glad to be hearing from the famous Yeti. I'm gonna love hearing his perspective on traveling with two crazy girls! :lmao:
I'm sure that he's going to have a lot to say.
Joining in. I was there the same week. It was crazy busy. Never seen it that bad in January before. Can't wait for the updates.
This is my third New Year's at WDW and it was busier longer than I expected. I knew that it would be busy the first few days of the holiday, but it stayed busy well into the week for sure.
Love it! I would definitely say something similar about staying at the Poly!! I love the Yetti's perspective too! Definitely here to read along!
Yeah, both Farrell and I felt like a classy place like the Poly definitely was not ready for us. :rotfl:
Joining in! A girls trip sounds perfect. And at the Poly. Even better than perfect.
It was definitely the perfect trip for sure. I so wish we could have stayed longer.
Ugh I'd be so annoyed if someone sat between Brandon and I...I can't stand when people sit in our row!
Yay, the Poly!! :yay: Your room is so beautiful! Did you make any room requests?
Oh my goodness, I know! I was like :scared1:. No way! To his credit, he was pretty aware of himself and didn't encroach upon our space.
The only room request that I had made at online checkin was that it be close to transportation. I wanted to be closer to the parking lot for the car and close to the buses. This was definitely the closest longhouse to the bus and parking lot.

There's some unwritten rule about airport restaurants - they're vaguely depressing with food that's mediocre but with nothing to actually complain about and way too many people are eating there. I don't understand! I've never flown Southwest, their whole setup seems really.. awkward? (we fly Frontier - free chocolate chip cookies!!) Was the weird baggage lady from the airport? Who even wants to hear directions at 1AM anyway? Any time past midnight and it's a free-for-all as far as I'm concerned!
The rooms at the Poly are so pretty! And massive! Are there lights inside the wardrobes/closets/mysterious grass-y doors?

Oh no on having to work the day you were leaving but at least the day was made better by knowing you were leaving for Disney in the evening!!
Glad you enjoyed your food and thumbs up for putting up with the chewing and burping noises! There should be some policy on the closeness of tables in a dining area :rotfl:
Wow your room looks amazing :thumbsup2

I think you are right about that. I've never eaten at an airport restaurant where I was like "wow!"
Southwest isn't so bad. I like the fact that I don't pay for baggage, that's for sure. Frontier is always really expensive flying out of where we do. I used to fly Midwest, so it was like the same thing. I miss those cookies!
The lady at the baggage claim was just another airline passenger. But for real, at 1am, it was too much. I just wanted to tell her to shut her piehole!
The Poly rooms are massive. When we first walked in, we were both like "woah". So much room for the two of us. And we were really good, we kept it clean. I hate messy hotel rooms. There were lights inside the mysterious grass-y doors (closets). We had two of them.

I prefer to leave for vacation after work, because I look at it like starting my first day fresh and ready to go. No traveling to deal with. I just complain about having to work. :lmao:
There really should be a policy regarding the proximity of tables in a restaurant. I agree. I think I'll start working on that bill right now....
The room was amazing. Loved it. So glad we were there.
Caught up now! Wow - you did have a light flight, but better to get their late than have to wait until the next day.
So funny that your travel partner woke up and forgot where she was. I guess that happens so late at night.
That Poly room looks amazing and you guys are troopers for unpacking at 2am.

That's exactly the motto that I take with flying late. I get a full day of fun ahead of me when I wake up.
I absolutely hate that feeling and know what it's like, which is why I thought it was so funny.

I really think that they are the biggest rooms on property! I felt like if I yelled into the room it would echo back at me.
I'm used to the DVC studios at AKL and I never thought they were to small, but I agree, they're not the same size as the Poly for sure. Farrell's going to be tainted for life because this was her first Disney hotel.

Saturday December 31, 2011
So by some act of god, I was up and out of bed by 9am. That clocks in at about 6 hours of sleep. Which I know for a fact were not 6 hours, because I remember waking up several times during the night (or morning, depending on how you look at it).
It also didn't help that at random times during the night, the ventilation system made a sound like someone just ripped a big one. No joke, when it happened, I was eyeballing Farrell.....now, no need to worry folks, it wasn't such a loud noise that we had to move rooms. I was just so over tired, that every little noise woke me up on this first night.
Anyhoodle, I got up and got myself ready to go, washed my face, did my makeup and took a shower. I'm much more anal retentive than Farrell about makeup because I am much less beautiful than she is. ;)
I woke Farrell up after that and she hopped in the shower. We were ready to go at about 10:20am. We headed to Captain Cook's to pick up some snackys for breakfast. My snacky of choice?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/85d1d238.jpg
The beautiful chocolate croissant. Part the skies and say "aaaaahhhhhh". Hark, I hear the angels sing!
The night before, on our way to the airport, I had told Farrell that I had a concern about our evening reservation. We had a 9pm ressie for Ohana. However, we also wanted to get to DHS before midnight to see the fireworks. I knew Ohana was a huge ressie, so there were going to be tons of people there. I had made a backup lunch ressie elsewhere. I asked Farrell what she thought and she said that she definitely wanted to go out that night, so we should do the lunch ressie.
After our breakfast of chocolate croissant and bagel, we headed to the bus stop to head to the Animal Kingdom. No car today, as I figured the parking lot would be busy. So, I texted Megan (Tinkerbelluvr7) and asked her if she wanted my Ohana reservation while we were waiting for our bus. I knew she had been eyeing it. Hence the title of the TR (early, I know!). As I was typing it into my iPhone it autocorrected Ohana to Obama. Which prompted me to YELL at the phone "I said Ohana, not Obama!!!" Which everyone at the bus stop heard. I have no shame. Dang you autocorrect!
We actually ended up waiting about a 1/2 hour for the bus. Wasn't a big deal to us though. I mean, honestly, where else were we going? So we took this to bide our time.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/8ad4b448.jpg
And our view from our seat at the bus stop.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/acf13036.jpg
I checked my two wait time apps while we were waiting. Both of the apps were claiming that there were basically no lines at the Animal Kingdom. Get out of town! On NYE? Seriously?! I was skeptical, that's for sure.
The poor CM at the bus stop was getting really nervous now, because no AK bus had come. I think he was scared that everyone was going to turn on him or something. Run for the hills!!!
The bus finally came and in no time we were at the Animal Kingdom. As soon as we got off the bus, Farrell realized she forgot her sunglasses, not at the room. No, that would be too easy. She forgot them at home. I can't help with that. She said that she would be fine. I told her that I knew this place and she wouldn't be fine. So before we even made it into the park, we stopped at the store OUTSIDE of AK. *sigh* So close, yet so far.
After she found a suitable pair, we headed to the ticket booths so I could pick up my AP.

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/446c2430.jpg
I picked up my ticket. Lo and behold, I got Donald! Shut my mouth and call me a Donald lover! I've never had a Donald ticket before. Ever. Ever. Ever. I was so happy!
Also, it's good to note that there was a huge sign up already advertising the hours for all of the parks. And said sign stated that the Magic Kingdom was already at capacity. At 12:30pm. :scared1:
We finally headed into the park. I was nervous because this was Farrell's first Disney park. Would she love it? Hate it?
She loved it! She loved the animals that were everywhere. Phew. Nervousness over.

He was really close to the truck. Like, super close. Like, you could be afraid that he was going to snatch something out of your hand. He got mighty close to Farrell. I almost yelled at her that she was going to be eaten! He was that close. Don't you go eating my best friend Mr. Ostrich!
And, like any other man that you will meet out there....laying around while the wifey handles everything else.

But did we go to Asia first? Nnnnooooo. We went to Africa. I was ready to jump in front of a truck....which was conveniently located.

OK this is completely random, but I read on Lia's TR that your mom was from Belgium. So I had to tell you that I got engaged in Brugge. How awesome that you were engaged in Brugge! We visited there in September 2010 and I agree it was just beautiful. We bought the majority of our chocolate there based on the recommendations of our family. I mean, if people that live there say it's the best chocolate, then it has to be.
My mom was actually born and raised in Antwerp, so we had a little bit of a drive to Brugge, but not too bad. I just love it there. So beautiful and everyone is so nice.

 You've never had a flavored croissant! Girl, you've been missing out. Put it on your list! :lmao:
The Ohana reservation worked out because Megan had mentioned to me before that if I wanted to give it up, she would take it. It all worked out for the best in the end.
Wow, hardly anyone goes to AK on New Years, huh? Noted! I would think by noon it would be mobbed. I really REALLY want to go to WDW for New Years, it sounds like such a blast!
OMG those elephants tackling each other!!! That is so funny, I love getting the chance to see them acting up or doing something out of the ordinary... so fun!!!
I was gobsmacked! Seriously, that it was so not crowded that day. Everyone else was at other parks I guess.
The safari is soooo much more fun when the animals are doing something out of the ordinary. It make for a fun experience.

I can't believe how un-crowded Animal Kingdom was on NYE! I feel kind of sorry for all those poor people in the closed to capacity Magic Kingdom.
Sounds like a great safari!

Oh my Walt that croissant looks ahmahzing!! It is huge and icing covered and chocolatey! When will Disney start delivering food to my front door?!
T9 can be such a pain in the butt some times! I have had quite a few awkward sentences :rolleyes1
Love the AK tree!
Yay for a Donald ticket!! My ticket for our trip is also Donald! I was pretty excited!
Looks like a great safari! The elephants are adorable!
Congrats to Yeti on saving Red!!!!

Man, I felt bad for all of those people at the Magic Kingdom too. I couldn't imagine how that would feel.

Haha, we can call it the Disney Dining Delivery Plan. :lmao: I'd sign up for it.
I can't stand autocorrect! It just replaces some words with the most bizarre options. I at least make sure I read my text before I send it off. I don't want to say something incredibly stupid.

Thankfully, it was the only restless night that I really had, so I'll take it. I think it was because of the long travel day. When I'm obnoxiously tired, I never sleep well.
I want that croissant right now too! I'm so hungry....

Um, totally love that you have Yeti updates in your TR. Fantastic.Oh Yeti.
That chocolate croissant looks so good. I do love me a chocolate croissant.
The autocorrect story was funny. That feature can be annoying though. Like seriously, some of the words are so bizarre that they replace your words with.
How cute that you got to see the elephants playing with each other. We got to see that with the giant pandas at the National Zoo once and it was so cute. I literally stood there for an hour watching them play with each other.

Hahaha, I just wanted to do something different than I had done on my other TRs. Glad that you like the Yeti updates.
I love basically anything that has any chocolate in it. I don't discriminate. It makes everything infinitely better.
I love animals when they do that. You're right, it tons of fun to just stand there and watch forever.

Look how still the water is on the side where they are standing. You can see that there are some moving out of the picture on the right, but most of that water is so still.

Yay!
Okay seriously, there is NO REASON for another passenger to do that. I would have.. glared sternly (? I don't know, it would be 1:30AM!!) at her from wherever I was. Maybe even muttered menacingly, depending on how awake I was.
How nice to hear that about the Poly! I'm kind of leery about the rooms, but I still want to stay there just to experience it. Though it seems as though most Disney resorts have a cult following, the Poly seems to have a more cult-y following (if that's even possible!).
I've read a lot of reports that Animal Kingdom (which, incidentally is one of my faves so everyone should just love it or.. something) is pretty empty on NYE because there's no party or anything. Any excuse to spend more time in Animal Kingdom is good with me!
But it's definitely better when the animals are active. You got an awesome safari! I didn't realize they had baby elephants there. I saw Lily but thought all baby elephants were fake on the safari ride (our skipper was not very good at elocution).
Oh auto-correct. Like thinking every alphanumerical combination REALLY refers to U2. Sorry iPhone/Siri, I don't like Bono that much. Glad it worked out for you!

I know. I basically came to the conclusion that she was just delirious from being exhausted. :rotfl:
Poly lovers are definitely a group for sure. I've always loved it, but I think it's because when we first started going to WDW, there were only a handful of hotels, so this one was really high up in my book. I just still love it.
I love it when the animals are about on the safari. That makes it so much better than when they're just boring and standing around.

Saturday December 31, 2011
So we left off we had just had a great ride on the safari with only a 10 minute wait. It was almost time for our lunch reservation at 1:30pm. However, first we wanted to head over to Expedition Everest and pick up some fastpasses. Because this was our only AK day on the docket, and we wanted to make sure we didn't miss that.
We managed to secure FPs with a return time of 3pm. Not bad if you ask me! Then, it was off to our reservation. Where do you ask?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/a17d177f.jpg
Basically, because of the conditioned air. Because honestly, who doesn't want conditioned air? It makes it so soft, silky and manageable.
There were TONS of people in the lobby. However, I walked right up to the podium and they said we'd be seated almost immediately. Reservations pay people. Listen, at least they weren't getting turned away. You've all heard the conversation at the podium.
Guest: Hi, I'd like to see if you have a table.
CM: Do you have a reservation?
Guest: No
CM: *maniacal laugh* Then.............no.
We were seated almost immediately after we checked in. We managed to be able to dodge the death ray stares of everyone else that was in the lobby still waiting.
We were seated and perused the menu. I ordered the bourbon chicken and Farrell ordered the tempura shrimp.

Farrell is likely an up and coming DISer, because she took pictures of her own food throughout the trip! I was so proud. My heart swelled with pride. My little baby was taking her first steps. *sniff*
Lunch was very good and I'm glad we made this choice for lunch. But oh, dessert. Dessert, dessert, dessert. In honor of Kristen, Jess, and all frumps, I decided to keep track of our food of the day. I present you with.....our food of this day.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/9d8e0265.jpg
The fried wontons. Oh..........my..........gawd.........
This was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. Just love. Love all over the place. So imagine that your two favorite foods in the world had a baby......wait, that analogy doesn't necessarily work, especially if you favorite foods are pizza and chocolate. *shudder* Never mind never mind! It's just awesome! That's what we'll leave it at.
After we were thoroughly stuffed we headed out. It still wasn't time for our FP return time for EE, so we walked slowly over to Dinosaur instead.

There was about a 20 minute wait for the ride. I did not warn Farrell about this ride at all. I wanted to see how she reacted to it.
She loved it! She was not scared at all, just laughed and cackled all the way through the ride. That's my girl!
*******I interrupt this TR update for a redneck ride photo********
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6d65fdb0.jpg
However, I think that the reason she wasn't so scared on the ride is because the sound was all whackadoo. Like, not as loud in parts that it should be. Like at the end, when the Carnataurus basically screams in your face? Yeah, didn't happen. Boooooooooo. Booooooooooo. Bow to her. Bow to your.......oh wait, sorry I got distracted and had a little movie reverence moment (10 points to anyone who knows what it is). ;)
Well then, after you ride Dinosaur, what else can you do but have a dino photo shoot?

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/1943cb61.jpg
It was finally time for our EE FPs. We skipped and galloped our way back to Asia. Farrell loved the FPs. She just loved walking past everyone and getting ride on the ride.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/347fe3cb.jpg
Well, we got on very quickly and Farrell had a little apprehension.

I really really wish that they would fix the Yeti. I'm tired of him just standing still looking at you. I mean, it's fine, but really? It needs to be fixed. Stat. Better get on that Disney, because I say so.
After this, it was time for our final attraction, It's Tough to be a Bug. Our friend Amber did not warn her about this, just told her to go and see it.

Well, you all know what happened. She got stung by the "hornets" and she jumped, screamed, and could not stop laughing. She also promptly exited her seat when the bugs crawled under her butt.
When we left, she kept laughing and telling me that I set her up. I told her, yes, yes we did. This started a theme for the rest of the trip. "Is anything going to come out and sting me or something?" She surely didn't trust me anymore. :rolleyes1
We left and ran into the parade on the way out.

You didn't warn Farrell even about the stingers???? Wow, no wonder she asked you about every ride after that!! :rotfl: The worst one for me was the "tail" on the late Honey I Shrunk The Audience. (A mouse tail used to kind of go around your ankles at one point in the show, if you never went on it.) My mom and I FREAKED out when that happened, but my dad was wearing long pants and socks, and didn't feel it! He was like, "what is wrong with you two???" :rotfl:)

Farrell loved the tempura shrimp. She said it was really good. A real winner for me was the rice that came with the food. We both agreed that it was seasoned perfectly.
I wish I could keep the glasses too. I'd buy a pair. But I'm also a good guest and I won't take a pair.

You definitely have to try Yak and Yeti! It's really good.
I LOVE Dinosaur! It's one of my favorite attractions. Can't explain why.
:goodvibes Great update! I love all your pictures but the ones with the yeti mascot are so cute.
Your meal at Yak and Yeti looks great! I have heard the fried wontons are delicious and they certainly look like it.
What a great afternoon at AK!
Farrell was a great sport with our Yeti mascot. The whole trip we would joke around to see what we would do with him next.
The fried wontons are amazing. They now reside on my list of favorite desserts at WDW.
Oh man, those wontons look awesome!! Glad that the Yeti enjoyed them as well!!! (Those Yeti hats are too cute!)
No, I'm a bad friend and I didn't want to warn her. I thought the impact would be greater if I didn't. :lmao: The stingers at ITTBAB have always gotten me! I actually never let myself get stung by them. It's because I have an unhealthy fear of bees, so my body just automatically leans forward at that part.
That's hilarious about Honey I Shrunk the Audience! They have that part in Captain EO too, and I forgot about it. So when I saw it again for the first time, I jumped.

Hey there! I'm joining in on this TR too! Just gotta make sure I'm caught up on your other one! ;)
Love the Poly! I really hope to stay there some day! Well, there and the GF! :cloud9:
I'm so glad you girls are having a great time! I'd love to have a best friend trip! Of course, I guess going with the DH counts as that too...
Can't wait to read more!
However, I think that the reason she wasn't so scared on the ride is because the sound was all whackadoo. Like, not as loud in parts that it should be. Like at the end, when the Carnataurus basically screams in your face? Yeah, didn't happen. Boooooooooo. Booooooooooo. Bow to her. Bow to your.......oh wait, sorry I got distracted and had a little movie reverence moment (10 points to anyone who knows what it is). ;)
Would that be the Princess Bride??

We have a dinner ADR for Yak and Yeti on the first day of our upcoming trip, so I was happy to see your review. I want to get the Mahi Mahi, but I am definitely trying the won tons and a Yak Attack. Thanks for sharing. Also, way to school Farrell on the food photos. My kids are so used to it that they remind me to take photos if I forget and start scarfing.

I know, that seems to be the theme so far. Listen, I look at it this way. When I went on the attraction for the first time in 1999, I wasn't prepared either. So everyone else that goes with me can suffer through it the same way I did.

Glad you're here. I love the Poly too. I've stayed at the GF once before, but the Poly has my heart for sure.
Girls trips are tons of fun. It was so nice not to have to worry about anyone else, we could talk about people endlessly. :rotfl:
You would be correct. It is the Princess Bride. 10 points to you!

The food is very good, and for sure DO NOT pass up the wontons. To die for! Unless you don't like cream cheese style fillings. Then you wouldn't like them.
The funny thing is, I didn't even school Farrell on the picture taking. We'd get served and she'd be like "it's so pretty" and just take a picture.

Yay on Farrell taking pics of her own food and them turning out so great!! She's definitely an up and coming DISer and I'm guessing that you have got her hooked ;)
Love the food of the day - I've seen pics of that yummy treat before and always wanted to try it.
Lol at not warning Farrell about Dinosaur and ITTBAB - I'm not surprised that this resulted in trust issues!! :lmao:

Farrell just picked it up on her own, it was too funny!
Those wontons are worth the trip to Yak and Yeti for sure.
The funny thing is, Farrell only didn't trust me until after ITTBAB. Dinosaur, she was fine. She's a weirdo.
And I have to say I kind of miss the bridge that was "falling" down. You know.
Oh, the bridge is back! I thought it was gone too, but it swayed and almost "collapsed" on our last safari.

Yak & Yeti:
I haven't investigated this one much but the food looked so good. And the fried wonton dessert made me want to jump into my monitor and eat away! :lmao: Your comments on the conditioned air was exactly what I was thinking...then I looked down to your comments. I thought you had read my mind or something!! And hooray for Farrell learning to take food pics!! My daughter says "Mom, really?!" :confused3
Loved the redneck pictures! They are the best! I crack up through dinosaur too. It makes me laugh rather than scream! And how can you not take a newbie to ITTBAB and tell them what is going to happen? That takes all of the fun out of it!
Cool that Farrell loved using the FPs. I love walking past the stand-by line and getting  looks from people like we are doing something wrong!
Finally....the Yeti installment was awesome! I am loving his view on the trip!! :thumbsup2

You should definitely make a stop at Yak and Yeti. I wouldn't say that the food is the best on property, but I think that the food is very good and the dessert was awesome, so I think it balances everything out in the end.
About the conditioned air, you know what they say about great minds....:goodvibes
I was wondering the same things! How can you tell someone about ITTBAB? Ruined I tell you, ruined it would be!
Glad you like the Yeti. His next installment will be just as silly I think.

My brother Jason and I are exactly the same way, in the sense that we quote movies all the time. And often, we are both thinking of the same quote in the same situation. I mean, seriously, life is just more entertaining when you put movie quotes in it!
I recommend it. The first time that I ate there, I was just underwhelmed by it, but this time it was super good.

Saturday December 31, 2011 - The festivities begin
So we had taken a nap and both got up around 7pm to start getting ready to go. We took our time getting ready. Hair doing, makeup, clothes, the whole 9 yards. Just because we're in WDW doesn't mean we can't get all pretty!
Megan texted when she got to the resort so we could meet up with them before their Ohana reservation (well, my reservation that was now theirs).
We were all set and ready to go. We did NOT plan our outfits together. It just kind of happened.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/3b8b7d36.jpg
Contrary to what my picture says, I HAD NOT started drinking. I just made a funny face.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6f06f29e.jpg
We stopped to see Megan at Ohana before we left. The GCH was soooo busy, I could tell that the wait time for Ohana was going to be insane. We told Megan to have a good dinner and we were on our way. Sadly, we were ding dongs and did not get pictures of our meet. I never said that I was smart.
We headed to the bus stop and were on our way to our destination: DHS. But not before we took a self portrait.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e7a376f6.jpg
We arrived at DHS at around 10pm and it was CRAZY! The music was already blaring, it was like a party and a half. I was so excited for the evening. This is how bright it was.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/bc19cd9c.jpg
Clearly, the blue was where the party was at. We stopped briefly and put on our $1 for a pack of I don't even know how many glow bracelets. Gotta love cheap things.
Before we starting *ahem* participating in the libations there were to offer, we decided to get something to eat.
My mentor told me one time: "Young grasshopper. Always coat stomach before excessive drinking, otherwise, you will not be happy later."
We headed to Rosie's for some basic burgers and fries. Nothing spectacular, but good.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c913c3a0.jpg
Then.....the time had arrived.
They had set up drink booths throughout a few areas. We made our first stop for vodka and sprite (doubles). This is typically our drink of choice. There were mass amounts of people that were walking through the park. It was insane!
It was pretty much like this everywhere.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/f9d088ea.jpg
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c936e1d4.jpg
So as we're walking down Sunset Boulevard, a guy (Polish I believe) asks me where I got my flashy things. Um, they glow, don't flash. LOL. I told him we got them at Target. He asked me how much they were. I told him a dollar. He was so impressed! He was like "really? A dollar? They're so cool.....I want some....Do you live here?" I told him we didn't, that we bought them before we left home. He seemed okay with that, started stumbling away from us, shouting "WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
Gotta love NYE, right?
We stopped to listen to the band for a while and then decided to get some more drinks. We found they were still serving at the bar at the Prime Time Cafe. I got Dad's Lemonade and Farrell got more vodka and sprite.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/99f266b8.jpg
We discovered that it's best NOT to give me a glow cube.....
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/a3555e82.jpg
The drink was okay, but I should have had my original drink. It wasn't sweet enough for my liking was all. Meh. What can you do.
We tried to set up shop for the fireworks at this point, so we didn't feel like we were too crowded by people.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/7e688bf3.jpg
The fireworks started, and they were crazy! Not like Wishes or anything, they didn't have a theme. But they were like BOOM, BOOM, BOOM BOOM BOOM! Just all over the place.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e0c9d1c8.jpg
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6bbf6e06.jpg
The fireworks lasted a good amount of time. They were pretty awesome, I have to say. After that, we headed to the sorcerers hat, where the DJ was spinning.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6d0d1f75.jpg
But not before I got another drink and promptly drank it.....and then took this picture. Think I've been drinking a wee bit?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/b4c55393.jpg
Here's a video with a little idea of what was going on at the hat.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/th_IMG_0634.jpg (http://s627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/?action=view¤t=IMG_0634.mp4)
We just danced and danced and danced until we were danced out. It was so much fun. We wanted to get some more drinks, but they had closed the drink locations. Boo!!! Not fun. Not fun at all.
At this point, it was around 1am. We decided to head out, because honestly, they closed up the drink shop. Fine then!
We got to the bus stop right when a bus was pulling away. That's okay. Because I got to wait and watch for this guy to fall off the chain. He had drank so much and was just swinging back and forth on it. I thought he was going to fall on his face! He was so perilously close to doing it. And I'm not going to lie, I would have laughed at him if he did. I have no shame.
Megan texted sometime during the night (I had been distracted because I had been *ahem* otherwise occupied with some drinks), and said that it took them over 2 hours at Ohana! We were both glad at that point that we had decided to change our game plan.
And the yeti. Ahhh, the yeti. Well, let me just introduce his chapter with this.

After the fireworks, they were jamming! They were playing my jam, the cha cha slide! I even got video taken of me doing it. For realz! Now, I apologize for the video, but Danielle had a personal (alcohol induced?) moment, and filmed it sideways. But it doesn't matter! It's a Yeti dance partay!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/th_IMG_0628.jpg (http://s627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/?action=view¤t=IMG_0628.mp4)

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e393c7a8.jpg
But I'm going to stand by the fact that clearly Farrell was trying to eat me. No other explanation. None that I can think of. :rolleyes1
They lassoed me with glow bracelets. I guess I was out of control.

Woo, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Sorry, couldn't resist. I feel super lame because the couple times we've gone after Christmas/for New Year's we've never actually stayed out to experience the craziness. It does seem fun though.
Loved the Yeti dance party. Took me a while to figure out what he was dancing to though.

Honestly, I've gone the last three new year's, and this is the first time I've stayed out and done anything. So, I can join you in the super lame category if you'd like.
I was so bummed out that I filmed it sideways! I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix it either. I used my phone and figured that if you tilted it like you do when you take a picture, that it would work. Clearly, it doesn't.

Drinks will do that to you from time to time. ;)
And I have to say I love your title. I didn't get it at first and then kept reading and saw whath happened. I got an IPhone4 for Christmas, and the auto spellcheck drives me crazy. I can see where Ohana and Obama got switched around.

Yes, sadly, drinks will do that to you.
When I go on my trips, I'm always waiting to see if my next TR title will just pop out at me. I've been fortunate thus far on my last few trips, and I was surprised that this one happened basically on the first day.
I hate autocorrect! However, I do like the fact that once you type a word and accept it, then it will remember that word in the future.

You should definitely go some time! I was so lucky that we were able to go together. It's so much fun though! Like, the music and everything. The hilarious part is that when you go when it's not a party, it looks totally different in the day time! Farrell was like "wow, this is like a different place".

They do lots of special stuff. All of the parks (except for Animal Kingdom) have special fireworks. To my knowledge, DHS was the only park with a DJ spinning. They also have other special shows and events for people to go to.

I know! The drink sounded so good to me and then it was like "meh". Just underwhelming and a little sour. I also don't really love sour, so that might influence my decision a little bit too.
It was tons of fun. I would say out of the parks, DHS and Epcot would really be the only two I'd go to on NYE. Because of the adult beverages.
I totally forgot a random story about the shirts! So, we stopped in the bathroom and this random lady starts telling me that she knew Farrell and I were friends because our shirts were basically the same. I kind of chuckled, because I told her that no, we did not discuss our shirts before we left, and when we busted them out of our suitcases, it just kind of happened that way.
That picture of Farrell and the Yeti were my favorite from the entire trip. It just describes us in every way. Funny...and a little not right in the head.

All righty. I'm going to start something new on my TRs. I'm going to start a running tally after each completed day of the things we accomplished, the things I wish we would have done, our favorites and foods of the day. ;) Let me know what you guys think. ;)
Things accomplished -
Kilimanjaro Safari
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur
It's Tough to be a Bug
Things we wanted to do but didn't -
Finding Nemo the Musical
Festival of the Lion King
Maharajah Jungle Trek
Farrell's Favorite of the day -
Expedition Everest (followed very closely by Dinosaur)

Farrell's Least Favorite of the day -
Didn't really have one. But if I had to pick, it would probably have been ITTBAB. Wonder why? ;)
Farrell's Food of the day -
Fried Wontons. Yummy!

Day 2 - Sunday January 1, 2012
Wow! I started typing that and actually typed in 2011 instead of 2012. Figure it out Danielle!
So, clearly we had a great night for NYE. We had not planned on getting up early. See, because getting up early after a night of partying generally does not bode well with Farrell. Me, I'm fine with it. Farrell. Well, it takes a little bit of convincing, yanking, water throwing, and generally jumping on top of her. Only to irritate her and turn her into a lion. Which I didn't want to do. So we slept in. Smart move!
Our funny conversation of the day happened in the morning. I mentioned that I had to make sure I left a tip for Mousekeeping:
Farrell: Are they really called Mousekeeping or is that what you call them?
Me: Yup, Mousekeeping is their official name.
Farrell: So, if they have to knock on the door and announce themselves, do they say "Mousekeeping.....fluff your mouse?"
:rotfl2:
We were up around 10am and started getting ready. We were out of the room by about 11am and headed to Captain Cook's to get a snacky for breakfast. I got.....
Another chocolate croissant! Yum, yum, yum. No, I did not eat one every day!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/f2394084.jpg
Farrell got a very exciting muffin. After that, it was off to Epcot for us.
We walked to the TTC. This is my favorite part of being at the Poly, because you can walk there instead of having to take two monorails. On the way, I took some resort pictures.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/3f012a7f.jpg
As you can see, a beautiful day. Very warm, I think it got up around 80 that day.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/477daff8.jpg

I'm so wishing that I was there right now. *sob*
So, if we were walking to the TTC, what was our destination? Epcot of course!!!
Again, I was still nervous. That's the thing about going with a first timer. I think there's always this sense of nervousness about whether or not they're going to like it. Even though I know Farrell and knew she would.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/0f2f673e.jpg

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/dd2c5cab.jpg
Farrell loved the fountain. Said it reminded her of the fountain at the Bellagio that we saw a few years ago when we spent NYE in Vegas.
Soarin' fastpasses were listed as gone for the day so we didn't even attempt to get those. We also had our lunch reservation at 2pm, so we just wanted to wander around for a while and explore a little bit.
We headed to Test Track instead. We actually managed to score FPs for a return of 4pm, which I thought wasn't bad, considering we hadn't even walked through the gates of the park until after 12pm.
After this, we did some putzing around Mouse Gears. Farrell wanted to take inventory of what to purchase near the end of the trip. I told her this was the best approach, especially for a newb.
After shopping, we headed to....
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e0722474.jpg
MINE!
Even though this is a kids ride, I love the theming through the queue and Farrell really loved it. I mean, come on, who doesn't love Nemo?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c9d4c834.jpg
Again, me with the face. What's my deal?
Jellies!

In the big blue world!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/5051cfef.jpg
And then.....it happened......Farrell got too close....I'd like to say it was by accident......but it was more driven by the fact that Farrell and Yeti were being naughty.....and didn't want to listen to me......teaches them!

Haha, love the Yeti's adventures! I want one! I always think about bringing a mascot with me on my trips, but I have a hard enough time taking TR notes that a mascot seems like it would be a pain for me! :rotfl:
You definitely need to stay at the Poly if you ever get the opportunity. Beautiful resort for sure.
It was you I was thinking of! LOL. I probably should have mentioned that. Whoops. Fail.
My TR notes are never a problem, because I have a really good memory and I do it all electronically because I type so much faster than I write. Plus, I take tons of pictures, so it always creates a narrative for me. When something really funny happens, I use my phone to take the note of it too. Mascot's are tons of fun!
ps-I just looked at your million new tickers! What weekend are you going for Food and Wine?
I know, there are a lot of them, aren't they? Some of them are moving targets, but I figure a ticker makes it kind of real, right? F&W I'm not sure about yet. It depends on some timing for work, but we're aiming for 10/10-10/14. But that can definitely change.
First of all, I totally know how you feel about bringing a newb - believe it or not, Tom had never been to Disney and the first time we went together, I was so nervous about him liking it the whole time!
Secondly, the reason why Farrell was reminded of the Bellagio is because the person who designed the Fountain of Nations ALSO did the one in Las Vegas! :thumbsup2
It's nerve wracking, isn't it?! I think because we like it so much and we're nervous if someone else doesn't.
I had no idea about that! You always learn something new, right?
I loved your recap! It's a good way to remind us what happened... which is basically what a recap is supposed to do... SO YAY!
I'm glad Farrell's muffin was very exciting. Who wants a boring muffin? Not I.
Oh no... Bruce strikes again. I swear, I've seen too many good people get eaten by him. :(
Haha, glad you liked the recap. I've never done that before, so I figured I would give it a try.
I don't like any boring food!
Bruce gets all the good people, I know. I don't know why he's so enticing.

Love the recap...great idea. :thumbsup2
I remember when we used to stay at the Poly my youngest sister (who was pretty little when we stayed there) loved the monorail so much she didn't want to walk to the TTC. :rotfl:
I also really enjoy Nemo...it's definitely my favorite Pixar movie!
I only ever stayed there as pretty much an adult, so the walk was never a problem for me. But I could imagine that if I was little, I would have always wanted to ride the monorail too, because I LOVED the monorail!

Great slow start to the day! The chocolate croissants look so good! I had one at Starring Rolls (not sure how similar the two are) and it was awesome! I plan to eat one in March!
I agree on the FP return time to TT...especially considering it was a major holiday! And Mouse Gears is my favorite! I almost enjoy it more than World of Disney. Maybe because I get so turned around in WOD and it is always so crowded!
I like the recap! :thumbsup2 I tried doing something similar because I know when I read TRs and a day ends I can't remember what all happened that day!
That Yeti...he was a handful wasn't he! :sad2:

Yay! Love the updates! Great shots of Epcot.
I definitely agree on the walking from the Poly to the TTC, my room was the last room in the building closest to the ttc, and it was awesome!! Such a short ride to MK/Epcot, heck yes! I love the ridiculous faces in the pictures too! Sometimes those just make moments the greatest!

Love Epcot, Yeti's updates are adorable. I actually took a yeti (a home made craft done by a friend of mine) to Europe and did things like that with him, he was another traveling yeti. Our friends all took turns with him when we were going places. It was fun :)

Sometimes, I don't know if they're all the same chocolate croissants. Now, that's not to say that they're not all equally yummy, because they are. But the one's I've gotten at the Main Street Bakery have been different. Who knows.
I was very happy with the return time for TT. Definitely good for the busy time of year that we were there.
I think the recaps are going to stay. It was lots of fun for me to put together actually. And yes, the Yeti is always a handful.

Yes, he does. The whole mission of the trip was "where can we put the Yeti?"

Aw, great update! Your and Farrell's face-making is pretty funny! I make ridiculous faces all the time, but they don't end up looking funny - I end up looking psychotic. :(
How were the lines that day? Seems like you're getting stuff done!
I'm loving your croissant every morning - mom and I split that at the MK bakery one morning and it was tasty tasty!
I ended up at the Poly on my solo trip for a moment; I'd never been there before, but I grabbed the monorail over to the MK. It was HUGE!! Wow! I couldn't believe how big it was!!!
I just saw your tickers, too! - maybe my/our trip will overlap with yours this time, as I think we're going 9/24 through 9/30. Then we can have a little dismeet.

Haha, I'm glad that you think our faces look funny. Half the time I just think I look ridiculous.
The lines were kind of long, but we were able to get a few things done before lunch.
Poly is a big resort. It could be very easy to get turned around for sure.
Right now, we don't have a definite time for our F&W trip. I think we're going in October, but I'm not entirely sure yet. I'll definitely let you know though if our trips end up overlapping!

I could not agree more. You need a couple of sleep in days for sure. Keeps you well rested and ready for everything I think. If not, then definitely a midday siesta.

I was a little disappointed that they closed the drink stations so early. It was kind of like "oh". I would have expected they'd be open a little longer, but it was like a hard stop almost immediately after the fireworks were done. So, the key is that you just have to get all you want before then. But I recommend going, it's a ton of fun.
Mascot's make the trip lots of fun. It's like "what can we do with him now?"

I haven't had the chocolate croissant from Starring Rolls. The ones from Captain Cook's were a little different than the ones that I normally have, but they were good. I typically go to the Main Street Bakery.

So I was a few updates behind, but it fun to read them all at once. NYE sounds like it was a fun night!
Makes me miss the good ol' days of Pleasure Island and walking from club to club with my big old bucket pail drink.

Just happened across your TR's (read this one and "Wait, What? We ordered four pitchers, not five"). Love the fact that you can travel so well with your brother. My brother and I, sadly, would not make it past the first day.
Love the fact that you spent New Years Eve at DHS with your BFF. I spent one NYE with a good friend of mine back in 1995 and I swear, it was one of the best NYE ever!!!!! Would love to take my kids there someday.

I'm very fortunate that I have a great brother and that he and I get along so well. We actually work together too, and people ask us all the time how we do it.
This is actually the second NYE that Farrell and I have spent together out of town. One year we were in Vegas, which was crazy!
The Yeti is very fun to document. It's just a matter of how silly we can be.

Day 2 - Sunday January 1, 2012
So we left off getting ready to head to our lunch reservation. The answer of where we were going may surprise you.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/0a7a849d.jpg
I had picked this because:
1) Farrell loves seafood
2) She loved the idea of the tank in the restaurant
Our reservation was for 2pm. And in case you're wondering this.....
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/433b43e8.jpg
.....is right outside of the Coral Reef. I had no idea it was there, and we all know that I love posing Yeti in different places. I mean, how could I resist.
Although I'm not going to lie, I was nervous that if a CM saw me, they would think that I was trying to steal Pirate Mickey.
"I swear Mr. Disney PoPo, I was NOT trying to steal Pirate Mickey....I was only trying to pose my Yeti with him.....yes I know I'm a grown up.....yes I know it's strange that I have a mascot.....but.....I....*sigh*"
We checked in and I asked the CM if we would be able to sit by the tank. She said she would try, but couldn't guarantee anything. I said that was fine.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e3c3c0f8.jpg
I love the inside of this restaurant, it's so pretty.
We were walked into the restaurant very shortly after that, and wouldn't you know it, we were seated by the tank!
BOO YAH!!!!
This was our dining partner.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/33406f4b.jpg
And, in true Farrell fashion, she says....
"That's not real, right?"
I said "oh, indeed he is real", and as if by sheer luck, that was that guys cue to start moving around.
Farrell: Oh my god!!!!
We loved our seat.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/a4e43b92.jpg
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/a6ba3c99.jpg
The restaurant is beautiful, of course, and the best part? Our waiter was from Belgium! (for those of you who don't know, my mom is from Antwerp, Belgium, immigrated here when she was 15. Yes, we all get a chuckle out of telling her that she came over on a boat......no really, she got here on a boat.....).
I told him that my mom was from Belgium. He asked where, and I said Antwerp. I asked him where he was from and he also said Antwerp. We talked a little bit about visiting there, and he asked me if I spoke Flemish (the Dutch dialect that's spoken there).
Me: Ik en bichen Vlaams sprechen (I speak a little Flemish)
So he wanted me to talk to him in Flemish the whole time. It was difficult, but I did my best. He said I did fine. Of course, I had to text my mom to tell her about it right then.
Farrell was very happy to be in such a cool restaurant.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6c14e490.jpg
Remember.....he's not real!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/309ba3ed.jpg
My entree....Lobster Ravioli...very yummy and very rich
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/01a63013.jpg
Farrell's entree...Mahi Mahi...I so should have gotten this, because it was amahzing.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/9116728d.jpg
My dessert...the Chocolate Wave...so good. It was so good. So good...shoot I just drooled on my keyboard...
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/1bcbbbe7.jpg
Farrell's dessert...sugarless Cheesecake...it was pretty good. Farrell is not much of a chocolate fan. Don't hold it against her.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/42002016.jpg
Our tummies full and satisfied, our server came by to give us our check.
Danielle: Leuk om u te ont moeten (It's nice to meet you)
Waiter: Ik ook (Me too)
So awesome this experience. And what a ding dong, I didn't get a picture of him! Argh!
This meal was very good and I'm glad that I made the reservation. I had hesitated a little, because the last time I had eaten there it was a little bit underwhelming. But this time, it was great!
We still had some time to burn before our Test Track FP, so we headed to...
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/f2a3f8ba.jpg
Farrell really loved finding out that Disney tried to do things to take care of the environment.
Nikki, want to make a margarita?!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/5ceed1e3.jpg
After that, it was time for....
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/691844ec.jpg
We had to take that pic, because Farrell's hubber dubber is a mechanic for GM.
You can see, there were a lot of crowds on this day.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/49bf1a98.jpg
We waited a while in the FP line.
Farrell: Wait, I thought it was a FASTpass?
I told her the story. You know, that you can still wait, you don't always get on right away. She was okay with that explanation.
As you can see from the picture, Farrell loved the ride.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/a704db6d.jpg
Me? I'm just a goober.
We decided to head out of the park after that. We wanted to relax, take a snooze, and then hit MK for EMH!
Up next: No, no, Farrell, don't look at the fireworks yet!

Thankfully, it was close to this location. I don't know how long I could stay up there. I mean, I know Danielle is tall, but seriously, she like threw me up there! I was very nervous about her ability to get me down.
Thankfully there was glass between us. This turtle was huge!

I was completely surprised with Pirate Mickey too. I had never seen him before and I had the same thought about it too "what if it rains, what if someone steals him..." I wonder if they had just put him up there or something.
Could you imagine getting busted by the Disney cops? That would not be good. I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to handle getting thrown out of WDW for life!
I was completely shocked about where our server was from! It's a small country, so you don't meet people from there very often.

Okay, maybe it's just because I don't eat seafood ever but wasn't it weird sitting RIGHT next to the fish tank and admiring the cute, adorable fish and then ordering and EATING seafood? Just seems kind of twisted to me! :rotfl:

No you're not, but the guy next to you is! :rotfl:
Great update, again. Your meal looks absolutely amazing! It's been so long since I've eaten at Coral Reef, so I think its time to try it again! I can't believe you scored a seat right next to the tank. Awesome. But are you sure it was real? :rotfl:
Haha, I TOTALLY forgot about that guy! :lmao: It now comes back to me that he filmed himself on the entire loop around Test Track acting like a dork! It was hysterical!
I now question what is real at WDW and what is not. Farrell has shaken my faith.
I was really surprised we got a seat by the tank, because I had asked the CM and she said that a request like that may take a while, and then BAM, we're walking in.

Omg Nikki, I have always thought the same thing about Coral Reef! I kind of want to try it, but I'd feel awful if I ate any type of seafood in front of the cute little fishies!!
Great update Danielle, like I said, I always think about trying CR but always find a reason not to! :confused3 Everything you guys had looks like it was so good! The chocolate dessert especially! And your server sounds awesome, that's so cool that you can speak Flemish!:thumbsup2
Awww, that yeti is crazy, pole dancing on the monorail!

It's funny, DBF and I were literally just talking about Coral Reef, and how it's sort of meta...you're eating seafood. Surrounded by seafood.

I wish I liked seafood. I ate at the Coral Reef in 2007 before they changed their menu and LOVED my chicken something meal... haha, ate there again in 2008 after the change and did NOT like my food :( Boo. It's so beautiful in there.
We hopped on the monorail....I pole danced.

I honestly have never thought about it that way, honestly. Must make me a weirdo.
The chocolate wave is so good. Like, we all know I'm a dessert lover, and this is reason enough for me to choose to go to a restaurant. It's warm lava cake with raspberries and raspberry sorbet. It was so good!

Now that you have an awesome pole dancing mascot ..... you need some theme music. You know for when you enter the park. A different tune for just walking around. Like that.
My DD was once running around the house humming some dramatic music. I asked her what she was singing and she said it was her "theme music". She's hilarious.

Oh wow! I've never seen that Pirate Mickey before (never saw Coral Reef either until one fateful night where we got lost in Epcot ;)). Is that always there? Or is it like Rapunzel's tower and only there when I'm not?
Coral Reef looks very nice. I've read some so-so to terrible reviews of it so I decided against it. And then I remembered that neither of us are foodies and would actually probably very much like Coral Reef! I miss eating seafood since moving out to Colorado - Farrell's mahi mahi looks so good.
Oh Flemish. I love how like half of it is so close to German and then the other half goes completely over my head! Who came up with a phrase like 'ik ook'? Not Germans. The words are too short!! :rotfl:
I continue to defy all sorts of commando touring advice and absolutely LOVE EMHs at Magic Kingdom. :snooty: MK at night is just way too magical to give up because other people will be there too.

I have no idea if the Pirate Mickey is always there. I'd never seen him before this trip.
The reviews on Coral Reef are so so. I love food, but I'm also not a terribly picky person either, so I am fairly easy to please. The mahi mahi was really awesome though.
Flemish is close to German, but it is a Dutch dialect, so it would make sense that there are similarities. Technically, it is Dutch, but they speak it slightly differently. 'Ik ook' is like a slangish term. I love that term though. My mom always said it to me when I would tell her that I loved her. :cloud9:
I love EMH at MK! Especially at night. For sure it's my favorite time to go.

You're right, there really is an obscene amount of food in Epcot that sometimes it makes it hard to decide where you're going to eat. I always have to watch myself, because my favorite restaurants are in Epcot and we could find ourselves going there every night if we're not careful.

How cool about your waiter! I have Coral Reef on my list for the next trip if I can fit it in. We went in 2009 and the food was pretty good and the Chocolate Wave...yummo! But then I freak over anything chocolate! But we were underwhelmed also mostly due to a very dry and non-personable waiter! I have decided I want to go back now!
Love how you had to explain the FP situation. We seem to run into the ride being down during our FP return time. I wonder how the new FP rules will work for the many breakdowns that occur!
Yeti segment: I know he had to be glad there was a nice thick piece of glass between him and that turtle! One chomp is all it would have took! :lmao: And I hope no small children observed the pole dancing!! :lmao: Still loving the Yeti's reports!!!

Oh, for me the chocolate wave just makes the entire trip to the Coral Reef worth it. It's so good! Waiters make all the difference though. The first time I was there, our server was kind of "meh" so that changed my opinion a bit too.
I know that they said if the ride breaks down at all during the hour that you're supposed to return, even with the new FP policy, they will let you on outside of your window. That's kind of nice.
No small children were harmed during the Yeti Pole Dancing photo session.

I'm going to look out for it the next time I'm there too, just to see if it's there all the time or if it was a fluke.
I agree, the atmosphere of the Coral Reef is really what makes the restaurant. For me, awesome atmosphere can make up for okay food. But then, I'm not a horribly picky person when it comes to food either.

That wonton dessert at Yak & Yeti is delicious...of course we love cream cheese wontons anyway, but this was extra good. Wouldn't mind some right now... Very cool to see what NYE night is like at DHS. I had no idea what they did there. Looks fun. Boy do I miss the Poly! Number 2, okay, so you definitely said "amahzing" in one of your updates. I've been saying that nonstop lately because I am OBSESSED with the TV show Happy Endings. I'm secretly hoping you picked this up from it and are also a fan. If not, then just disregard this, hahaha.
I'm kind of surprised the crowds weren't as bad as I pictured them to be at this time! AK didn't seem too awful which is good.

I posted this on my other TR as well, so if you're reading both, sorry if it's a little redundant.
I'm back after my long absence and I will make a point to get caught up on everyone's TRs. Time has gotten by so quickly.
My mom is doing well. Basically, the story is that she fell down the stairs in the house and fractured her leg. She was in a brace for about 7 weeks, and has only recently been allowed to take it off permanently. She had a hard time for a while, because she's so independent. She didn't like people having to do stuff for her, but it was necessary. So, she's on the mend and has about two weeks of physical therapy left.
I will be starting a new PTR soon, so stay tuned for that. It's not a traditional one, because we're going to Europe for two weeks, but I would love it if you guys came along. We're going to Disneyland Paris for two nights and three days, so if you're interested in hearing about that, feel free to come along!
Let's get crack-a-lackin!!!!
Day 2 - Sunday January 1, 2012
Okay. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away......we left Epcot. I know. Seems like FOREVER!!!
We had headed back to the hotel to take a snooze before heading out to EMH at the Magic Kingdom. The snooze was a great choice. Gave us the wind we needed (beneath our wings! Ba dum bum).
We got freshened up and were heading out the door at about 8:20ish. We headed up to the beautiful monorail.
Let's all sing the Simpson's monorail song!!!!
Mono......d'oh!!!!

Well, let's just say I had a mission. Time was ticking, because Wishes was going to start. And under no circumstances did I want Farrell to catch any glimpses of it. Why? Because we had a dessert party later in the week. I wanted her to experience it then, not early. Well, we're walking down Main Street (USA. It's the heart of America, the heartbeat of a holiday.....Sorry, couldn't help it).
Then, it goes dark. Farrell's like "whoa!". I'm like "d'oh!"
But we were saved! Because it was the Magic Memories and You show. So I told her:
"Avert your eyes. Do not look at the castle....do not pass go....do not collect $200!!!!!"
Obvs, people were looking at me like I was crazy. Whatever. It's all for the sake of magic preservation.
I basically SHOVED Farrell into Cosmic Rays. I told her that I didn't want her to see anything that I was saving for later. Fortunately, she understood. She didn't appreciate the bruise I gave her by shoving her into the restaurant, but eh? What can you do?
We were very hungry, and fortunately, it was not crowded at all.
I ordered...

Yummy! I didn't get a picture, but Farrell got the ribs platter. As always, the food was tasty and filling.
After that, we decided to putz around Tomorrowland for a little while. Farrell bought two BFF bracelets. We're cheesy, but whatever!
I also tried on some hats.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/fb4ce6cb.jpg
The angle wasn't the greatest. Chalk it up to the 9 inch height difference between Farrell and myself.
After that, because our tum tums were still full, we headed to the absolute greatest ride in Tomorrowland.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/e0e5ad8d.jpg
Word up people!!!!
Farrell had fond memories of it from Disneyland, and sadly they don't have it there anymore. I call it the Rocket Rod debacle. Look it up sometime if you're not familiar. They removed the Peoplemover to install this thing called Rocket Rods, right? Well, they.......were.......lame.......I can attest to that, I rode them. And now all that remains is the sad empty track. It's sad. Very sad. Okay, I digress.
Remember, under no circumstances are you allowed to dance on the ride!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c72d9e9f.jpg
Obligatory Peoplemover feet picture!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c559618e.jpg
So pretty at night.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/51075b36.jpg
I also have to admit that I'm a huge dork, and when we were going through some of the dark portions, I said: "Space.....the final frontier.....these are the voyages of the Starship Peoplemover".....which led Farrell to chime in "it's mission.....to find new characters and new Mickey civilations....to boldly go where no BFFs have gone before".
Remember, when you read that, you have to sound like Patrick Stewart. *sigh* Now do you understand why we're BFFs?
After that.....well, okay. We're in Tomorrowland. Where else would I go?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/4eb9ebdd.jpg
Duh.
Well, I will say that our joystick was wonky. I still scored okay, but it was wonky that's for sure. I had to like slam it to one side just to get it to move.
We had fun though.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/ca8367ea.jpg
We wandered around for a little while after that. I just wanted Farrell to take it all in. She saw Winnie the Pooh and wanted to ride. Only a wait time of 10 minutes too! We both agreed that there is nothing too childish for us in WDW. Gotta love a first timer with the same belief system!

Hooray!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/87837a35.jpg
Our next stop was my favorite.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/c15a5c06.jpg
Which led Farrell to ask again "is anything going to pinch, bite, or rub up against me?"
I told her she was safe. That ITTBAB was a unique experience. I remembered Captain EO though, but figured we wouldn't be heading there, so I didn't bring it up.
She loved it! Of course, it's my favorite for sure.

Where's my hat?!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/ebf34dbe.jpg
After this, we slowly wandered out of the park and took some pictures.
This was my favorite dress in Cinderella. I didn't love her blue dress. I loved the mouse dress!!! Farrell agreed.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/ad76285e.jpg
Make it pink!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/fa74ce2b.jpg
Purty...

Le sigh...

After that, we headed out of the park and made it to our hotel by 1am. We had an early start to the day, because we were heading to DHS, and you know what that means....TSM mad dash!!!!!

So, the girls took me to the Magic Kingdom. I promised that I would behave. But I have a complaint.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6095d3e1.jpg
This thing is called a peoplemover. Clearly, it is not only a peoplemover. Why? Because I'm on it. And I......am.......a......YETI!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/d2bcf13a.jpg
So, Disney has a few choices. Call it an everything-mover.....or a Yeti-mover. Because let's be realistic people. We all have a little Yeti inside us.
Danielle actually let me shoot on Buzz Lightyear. Can you see me, can you see me, can you see me?
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/6f38b2ed.jpg
Yup. Got a great score too if I do say so myself.
We had to make a potty stop. This is the problem with being 2 inches tall. You have to go somewhere with someone ALL THE TIME! But I'm nice, and I give people their privacy.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/7794fbd3.jpg
I got some glow in the dark time on Winnie the Pooh. And Danielle had the nerve to say that I was a little dirty. Um, not here I'm not!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/58313c0d.jpg
I also attempted to pull the sword from the stone.
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/96498cf3.jpg
I swear I did....but when the Disney police saw that I did it, they came over and confiscated all evidence of it. You know, gotta keep up appearances. That's why there's no picture. :rolleyes1
Photobomb!!!!
http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt359/daniellevoss/WDW%20New%20Years%202012/b0c79998.jpg
And, rather than last night, I actually got put into bed! Moving up in the world. Making me sleep on the dresser the night before. Pssshhh.

Yay for updates!!
Gotta love Magic Kingdom! I totally understand the "don't look at wishes!" thing, I would much rather actually sit down & have something special to watch the whole thing rather than catching a glimpse of it while walking through the park.

I agree! I hate catching it for only a portion of the show. I wanted her first time seeing the show to be special and not diluted by anything.

We always laugh about the "no funky dancing" signs on the rides. Keep it all inside, people!!
I'll admit, I laughed out loud at the Yeti being very respectful of privacy in the bathroom stall. He's very polite!
Love your pics of the castle dream lights!

You're such a good friend to make sure Farrell gets the full on Wishes Dessert Party experience. I always think about stuff like that since I have friends who have never been to WDW, if I brought them with me how I'd try to "show" them Disney. It must be fun to see it from a newbie's point of view!
They don't have a Peoplemover at Disneyland anymore? OMG. That's a shame. If they ever remove it from WDW I will riot in the streets. Changing the spiel was enough to drive me mad, but it disappearing altogether...forget it! :sad1:
