Daughter's Surprise 1st Visit; Best Christmas Present Ever TR!! Update: 5-4-12; Pg 9

Hello everyone!! This is my first ever trip report. I have been a lurker on the Dis for over a year. I was too chicken to do a pre trip report but I decided to close my eyes and jump in with a trip report. You all helped me so much and I enjoyed reading all of yours; I wanted to return the favor. Also, it will help me to continue to relive the most fabulous vacation :banana:

When our DD was born, I told my husband we will be going to Disney World some day. Well 8 years later, we finally made that dream a reality. I only wished we would have gone sooner. We always assumed Disney World was so expensive there was no way we would be able to go. However, I never took the time to actually research it. :headache:

Fast forward to October 2010, I went online and priced out a package. I was shocked when I saw the total price:scared1: But it was a good scock. I was expecting 10s of thousands and this was not ever close. I went home and told my husband about it and the next day, we put down the deposit.

It was at this time, we decided to keep it a secret from our DD. One, we didn't want to get her hopes up and disapoint her if we were unable to go; and two, it became so exciting to plan this for her. It was at this time, I found out about the Dis. If it wasn't for you all, I think our first trip would have been bad because we would have had no idea what to expect or what to do. My husband was amazed of the things I knew and now understood why I had my head buried on the computer that whole time :love:

Now this was a first of many things: 1st Visit to DW; 1st time Flying; 1st time going further than 3 hours from our house. Yep, when we go on "vacation" I stick to IH35.

So as previously stated above, this trip was a first ever for our family and it was a surprise for our daughter. For a whole year the plan was the following:

Fly in on December 16 and fly out on the 22nd. Stay at Pop Century and 5 day hoppers with Deluxe Dining.

After going over plan with DH and him seeing Pop, I saw his face deflate. He was not feeling POP at all :confused3 Of course his eyes started to glaze over with happiness when he saw the Deluxes. But then his eyes narrowed again when I showed him the prices :rotfl2: He thought the values were an upscaled Motel 6 and he really did not want to stay there. I showed him the Moderates, and we both agreed on POFQ!! So now the plan is now:

Fly in on December 16 and fly out on the 22nd. Stay at POFQ and 5 day hoppers with Deluxe Dining.

Fast forward 7 months, I started researching plane tickets. I realized it was cheaper to fly in the day before on a Thursday then it was to fly in on Friday. So I told him we were leaving a day earlier and we would stay at a hotel near the airport and then take DME early Friday morning. So since we were going to be there early on Friday, I told him we would add another day of tickets. So the plan is now:

Fly in on December 15 and fly out on the 22nd. Stay at POFQ and 6 day hoppers with Deluxe Dining.

Now if you have picked up on anything so far, is that I start thinking too much and I go back and forth on my decisions. A week before we were to leave, I thought everything was in order, when I realized MK changed their opening times. Because of this, I realized we would not be able to see the opening show. So my brain started working on overtime and I came up with a plan. I mean, how can you go to your first visit and not see MK's opening show :confused3

So I told DH that we would cancel the airport hotel and get a room only reservation at All Star Movies. Then we can taxi over before 7 am to check in at POFQ and then be on our way to MK for the opening show. He was confused but I told him to just roll with it. So I cancelled and added and the new plan is:

Fly in on December 15 check into ASMo; check out on the 16th and check into POFQ and fly out on the 22nd. 6 day hoppers with Deluxe Dining.

Great idea! I'm glad you were able to schedule time for the MK rope drop show! :woohoo: Oh, and I loooove POFQ! It's such a cute resort, but I do have to say that I enjoyed the POR too! :laughing:I hope you enjoyed your stay! Can't wait to hear about it!

Me: I am a thirty something wife to a wonderful husband and a mother to a beautiful daughter. I love to read, take pictures and spend time with my family.

Grumpy or Daddy: My thirty-nine year old wonderful husband. We have been together for almost 15 years. He loves Golf and shooting pool. Unfortunately, he is not a die hard Disney fan. He will watch the movies but it wasn't until we were almost leaving to the World before he got excited. However, I think he did leave with the Disney magic inside him.:love:

Princess: Our beautiful 8 year old daughter. She loves dancing and art. She is a very good artist and her smile just melts our heart. She is a die hard Disney fan and she still believes in the magic of Disney; which will come to life in my trip report.

We were set to fly out @ 3 pm on Thursday, the 15th. The night before I had to work and got home after 6. We were not packed at all:eek: Yes, I know. What was I thinking. But see the whole year I was planning I saw all the wonderful Disers with their matching T-shirts. I loved them. So I told my self that is what I was going to do for my family. Well, when you save a years worth of Disigns, it gets hard to narrow down. So I had no choice but to make 42 shirts. But I did not start until a few days before we left. So I couldn't really pack since our wardrobe was not done yet :rolleyes1

So I stayed up till 2 am packing. Well, my husband did stay up as well but I had to remind him to pause the TV to get me what I needed to pack. I was so worried about the weight limit that I was limiting him on what to bring. Needless to say he wasn't very happy.

As previously mentioned, this was our first flight. Well, Grumpy has flown before since he is Ex-Military but that was a while back. Things has changed. The TSA regulations was making me a nervous wreck.

Anyway, I finally went to sleep and was awake @ 6:30 to get Princess ready for school. She still had no idea what we were planning and our luggage was hidden in the utility closet. Heck, she didn't even know we had luggage. We just bought them before the trip.

Grumpy and I ran errands getting last minute things and he had to get a hair cut and I got my eyebrows done. I couldn't go meet the Mouse with my brows all wacked, now can I?

Finally it was time to get the surprise box ready since we were going to pick up Princess @ 12:00. We had all the bags out and the box ready in front of the tree

After taking the pictures, I told Grumpy to put the luggage back in hiding because I did not want Princess to ask any questions that will ruin the surprise. But before he does, I ask him one more time to weigh the bags, just for good measure.

The surprise box contained two helium balloons that would float out when the box was opened. They were attached to a weight so they would not fly to the ceiling. Included was a shirt I made saying "Surpirse! You are going to Disney World!" It also had two letters: One from Tinker Bell saying how sweet she is going and one from Mickey saying he had a room reserved at ASMo for that night. It also included DSi games; a new purse and other knick knacks.

Now, I have read the threads and seen the youtube videos of surprises not going well. And I told myself, to be prepared. But I was thinking there is no way she will be disappointed. She has been asking to go to Disney since she knew what it was.

Princess is finally home and sees the box. Everyone takes out the video camera and the camera. This is the moment we were waiting for; the moment we planned all year.

And I think where we messed up is that in the letters and on the shirt it says you are going to Disney World but it did not say when:confused3 She did not comprehend; which rightfully so, that we were leaving at that moment. We explain to her and she is staring at us in disbelief. We pull out the luggage and she finally gets it. She starts laughing and smiling so big and runs to go put on her shirt.

We get to the airport within an hour of our flight. Not what I was planning. Since this was our first time flying, I wanted to be there no later than 2 hours so I can figure out what I was doing. We had done pre check in the day before. My mom drove us to the airport and we rolled our luggage to baggage check. We were checking 3 bags and taking 3 carryons. Princess was in heaven. She kept looking around her; soaking it all in. The security line was not long and we followed all instructions and were passed through quickly. We found our gate and had enough time to go the restroom (did not even want to attempt using on the plane. Was afraid I wouldn't know how to use it :laughing: and get some snacks. I thought we would have enough time to have lunch before we boarded. Since I was an hour behind schedule, we did not get to eat. OK, I did not allow Grumpy to go far for fear of being boarded early and we are that family that holds the plane or we miss it. So we waited till it was time to board.

We finally board and it wasn't until we sat down that I started getting real nervous. I never thought I would fly but here I was. I knew if I wanted to see the Mouse, I had to get on a plane. I am so glad Jetblue has TVs. I never concentrated so hard, watching Judge Judy in my life. Princess was real excited and she loved having the TVs. While I was trying not to panic, here were my loved ones:

Once the plane was up in the air and I let go of my death grip on the armrests, I began to relax a little and took pictures of the pretty clouds :cloud9:

We had an uneventful flight and after two episodes of "The Next Forety-Eight", we were landing. I had read a thread on the Dis about MCO. It said after landing you are to take the fake monorail to the other building and then proceed to Level 1 for MCO. So after we got off the plane, I told my family where to go. Grumpy asks me, "are you sure?" Umm, yes, I am. On the way, I explained even though DME will transport the luggage for you, I wanted to get it ourselves. So instead of following the other families to DME, we went to baggage claim and... waited. Finally, our lovely new luggage came around that turn thingy and we were on our way to DME. We went downstairs and then, I could not remember if it was left or right. Grumpy was trying to find a map and I thought that would take to much time. I saw an employee for the rental car and asked him. He said it would be on the left, however, on the other side. We could either try to walk it around or go back up, walk across and then go down and take the left. Which is what we did. So I did not take any pictures of MCO. No monorail photos. I did not even notice Disney World signs or the cute statutes I have just seen in some the new Trip Reports.

Finally we see a woman with a huge white hand waving to us. I get my smile on and she directs us to the ASMo line. There is no one in line. Grumpy kept asking me if we missed the bus. I told him we probably did. He starts looking at me like:scared1: Told him not to worry, another one would be on its way. So we waited and I took out my camera.

Anyway, a DME bus appears and we can finally board. The driver instructs us they will be stopping at Coronado Springs, ASMu, *** and ASMo. Yep, we were last. But I did not care, this was all new to me so it was exciting. We are off and the magical disney video comes on. I look over to Princess and she is just smiling away. I look back to Grumpy and he is..... asleep!! I tried to wake him up. He would open his eye, smile at me and then close them right back up. Oh well. I will just wake him when we get there.

We finally get to ASMo and I am amazed. Princess and I walk up to registration and Grumpy:

After we get our packet, I gather my brood and off we go to search for our room. Since it was only one night, I did not request any particular area. Well, I guess we were going to get a taste of how much walking we would do. We were in the Mighty Ducks section and the room was all the way to the back on the third floor. Now, I thought I read Values did not have elevators. So I told Grumpy we would have to carry the bags 3 flights of stairs. Yep, I got that look again. Because when I say we, it really means him. After Grumpy shows off his He-Man efforts, we open the door and walk into our room. I thought it was cute. Grumpy, thought it was small. He began looking for the fridge so he can put our drinks in. Told him no fridge. Yep, you guessed it.. That look again. We were starving since Grumpy and I did not eat all day (could be the reason for those looks). We leave our room and we go the other way. Next thing I hear is my name.. And not the sexual kind of way but I am in trouble kind of way.... There, in all its glory, was an elevator :rolleyes1 I told him, goody.. so tomorrow when we leave you don't have to haul our bags down. Grumpy gave me the look again.

So after Grumpy whispering sweet sentiments under his breath after finding the elevator, we walk to the Food Court. On the way we took some pictures:

We get to POP and this meal was going to be OOP. Princess gets the cheese pizza and Grumpy and I get the Chicken pasta thingy. These were pretty good. Princess was still a little hungry so we got her a chicken pasta plate as well. Afterwards, we got ice cream and headed back to the room.

After we get back to the room, I get Princess ready for bed. She asks me is it true we are checking out of the room in the morning. I tell her yes. She says she wishes we could stay longer. I told her since Mickey invited us, hopefully he would let us stay. She said a wish to Mickey and went to bed. Now, this is where it begins... Princess thought this was her surprise. She got to fly on a plane, get to Disney World and stay the night. She thought we were going home in the morning. She had no idea we were staying for 7 nights and going to the parks. :banana:

Grumpy was in bed and I took a shower. After getting out, I got out our matching shirts and autograph books and 1st Visitor pins and letter from Princess Tiana saying she heard Princess came to Disney but did not get to go to any parks nor meet any of her friends and that just wouldn't do. She asked her parents if we could stay longer and we agreed. She had reserved a room for us at POFQ for 6 nights. After making sure everything was packed up and layed out right, I fell asleep.

Well, while Grumpy is shouting obscenities at the TV during tonight's Cowboys vs. Giants game, I decided I would write about Friday's events.



MAGIC KINGDOM, EPCOT & DINNER WITH A PRINCESS

We left off with Princess making a wish to Mickey, hoping we could stay another day since she really had not seen anything yet. Grumpy and I got up at 5:30 (which it would be 4:30 my time back home :eek:) After we made sure everything was ready, we woke up Princess. When she realized, there was a surprise for her, she literally jumped off the bed!

I thought we took more pictures but I only have this one. I do know we have the reveal on video. Princess read the letter from Tiana and was ecstatic Mickey listened to her wish. When she saw the autograph books, she was over the moon. She believed Mickey brought us the T-shirts and was happy that he thought of her mother and father :love:

We immediately got dressed and packed up the few things we had out so we can check out and taxi over to POFQ. Now my plan was to get to POFQ early to check in and get our KTTW cards so we can high tail it over the Magic Kingdom for the opening show. We call for a taxi and before we even made it to Fantasia side of the resort, our taxi called saying he was waiting. We get to POFQ and it was beautiful. However, I did not get out my camera. So I have no pictures of that first morning. I so wanted to get a picture of that cute nice man who was opening the door and wishing everyone a good morning.

We walk up to front desk and check in. Our room was ready!! Since I really did not know anything about the resort when I made the reservation I did not request any particular sections. I asked the CM if by chance our room was near transportation. After that 8 mile hike at ASMo, I thought I would ask. He got on the phone and started searching for me. He said there would be a room available but it wasn't ready yet. Told him no problem. He assigned us Building 4 and told us our room number would be texted when it was ready. We head outside to the room where the luggage was stored and gave them our bags. We cross over and wait for a MK bus. One came within 5 minutes. I was so giddy!! We hop on and man was the bus crowded.

Ha, ha! We were the only ones on the bus. I saw the time and it we were making good time. We were going to make the morning show after all!! EXCEPT, I realized at that moment, I forgot to give the man my carry on bag. :eek: My heart started deflating when I told Grumpy and Princess that we would have to go back to POFQ to give them the bag because we could not lug it all over MK and we would be going to Epcot for lunch. So we get off at Magic Kingdom and get right back on a POFQ bus. Talk about toying with my emotions. I see everyone walking toward MK and we went in a circle.

So back to POFQ we go and hand the man my bag. We also gave them our jackets since it had warmed up. Back to the bus stop we go. We get on another MK bus and we are on our way:

We pull up to MK and I realize we just missed Rope Drop and the opening show:guilty: However, I told myself we are here and not to dwell on things we would miss. I knew this wouldn't be the last of things we were unable to do and to go in with a good attitude. Which is what I did. Princess doesn't even know about the opening show so to her, we didn't miss anything. As soon as we go in we see a PP. Since I had pre purchased the CD, I had already warned Grumpy we were going to stop at every PP I saw and he knew to just roll with the program. We are still waiting on the CD. Will update PP pics when they come in.

We are floored when we walk under the Train Station and enter our Happy Place :dance3: This day we decided we were just going to take everything in and what ever we were able to do, we would do. While walking around, Princess sees some friendly people:

We jump in line and get out the nifty autograph book and wait to take her pic with Ms. Daisy. Since I knew we would be having a character breakfast later during the week with Pooh and Tigger, I told her we could catch them some other time.

After the Rose garden, we found ourselves in front of the Castle and the Dream show was about to begin. We decided to stay and watch.

We loved this show. And yes, I did tear during it. Grumpy was laughing at me :laughing: Before we knew it, it was time for us to go to Epcot for our lunch reservation. So we head out back to the exit and take pictures along the way.

We walk towards the exit by the turnstiles and wait for Grumpy. He took his first bathroom break. All of a sudden, he comes sprinting around the corner saying for Princess to come with him and to hurry. So off they go and me trying to keep up.

We finally exit MK and get on the ferry to the TTC to get a monorail to Epcot. Grumpy taking his video duties to heart:

It was so relaxing on that boat, with the breeze around us. All of a sudden it dawned on me, with our morning excitement, we did not eat breakfast. This picture of Princess should have been my crystal ball moment for what was to come:

Oh, that is ok. I was kicking myself since it was my fault I forgot to hand over my carry on bag. But I just put it on my list to make sure we catch when we go back. Yep, before we left, I was already saying when we come again, and Grumpy kept giving me his look :rotfl2:

We ended up arriving at Epcot since we had an ADR at Via Napoli. Of course we stayed at Magic Kingdom a little longer than I wanted so we were pressed for time for our 12:30. We did not have time to really see Epcot while we sprinted to Italy. Of course, Princess did not eat anything other than the popcorn snack and she hit a wall. Her legs started hurting and she began telling me she was too tired. I told her I was sorry and I knew it was a walk but once we get to the restaurant we would be able to rest. It was a beautiful day but with the sun out and are sprint marathon, we were hot. Mix tiredness, hot and hunger and Princess turned into Maleficent before my very eyes. Her eyes started tearing up and my heart was hurting cause I knew it was my fault since I had not given her breakfast :sad1:

We finally made it to Via Napoli and after about 5 minutes, we were seated. Once we found our table, I took Princess to the bathroom to wash up and splash water on her face. We get back to the table and she is a little better but still not feeling all so spunky.

We ordered a pepperoni pizza for Grumpy, a cheese pizza for Princess and a chicken pasta dish for myself. Sorry, no pictures. We loved the pizza and the chicken dish, not so much. I would definitely go back to Via Napoli but I would stick with the pizza.

Once Princess ate, I saw the spark come back into her eyes. The plan was to go back to MK to see the 3:00 parade since this would be our only time to see it before they changed it to the Christmas parade. I asked Princess what her choice would be: We can go back to MK or we can go back to the resort, rest and then get ready for dinner in the evening. She chose to go back to the resort and rest. As much as I wanted to go back to MK, I knew I had to listen to Princess's needs so it was decided we would head back to POFQ

Yep, I am the same way. It's funny. When Grumpy and I get into one of our "discussions", we always end with one of us saying: "Do I need to feed you again!" :rotfl2: Via Napoli was real good. I was kind of nervous since the only pizza we know is Papa John's. But I loved their pizza.

I love it so far! We are very much alike! I always thought that Disney would be too expensive, but found that its' not as much as people think it is, plus they offer all of those discounts all of the time! And the dining plans REALLY save tons of money!
I did the matching shirts too and it is so hard to find which ones to take! I did limit myself though... I am anticipating to see all of yours! Oh I'm glad that your surprise went a lot better than mine did! LOL I am laughing so hard when you talk about grumpy's looks because I have a grumpy and I get those same looks!
Oh how cute that stuff that you laid out and the letter! Every night we had something for my little guy to open as well and I feel like that made him want for th eday all that much more!
We missed the opening show on 12/16 too lol! You can kinda see the autograph book, did you make that? I like it! Hello, Pirate Mommy. Yep, we are from Austin. We loved the weather we had. It would be cool in the morning and we would wear black long sleeve shirts under our T-shirt. By 10 am, we were in the bathroom taking off the long sleeve. There was one night that we put on our fleece jacket but still even then, it was comfortable. There is no way we would be able to do Summer. When we go again, I will be looking to go in December. Also, if we went in the summer, Grumpy would have been chosen as the Dwarf to replace the original Grumpy. Since he loves Christmas, I knew he would enjoy all the sights and sounds. The crowds were real manageable, not empty but not unbearable. I am so glad you are reading along :-)

Where we left off, Princess had some food in her stomach and it was decided that we would head back to POFQ to rest before our dinner ADR. But before we could leave Via Napoli, we had desert!!

After they consumed the ice cream and I chugged, I mean drank my wine, we headed out of Italy. A few steps to the right and we see a boat that takes you across WS. This time, I got that look from Princess when she realized we could have ridden to Italy instead of sprinting in the marathon.

We took a leisure ride across the water and head out to the exit. On our way, we stopped at a Kiosk and Princess bought sunglasses and a tiara. She even asked to have her picture taken:

We were almost to the exit when she sees something that brings a smile to her face and takes Grumpy by the hand and they run to:

Now once we got to POFQ the plan was for us to go get the luggage from baggage room and then we would go into the lobby. We would have Princess watch cartoons and with Grumpy shielding me, I was able to get the letters and T shirt for Princess and go up to the room and set them out for her. So off I went to find our room. Oh my word.. I loved our location, it was just perfect. After helping Mickey Mouse leave a surprise, I raced back to the lobby. Princess did not even notice I had left. Told her our room was ready and for us to go.

When Princess opened the door she saw the following:

She was so excited. She believed Mickey and his friends left the letters and T shirts for her. And when we did this every morning, she never once thought it was us. :dance3:

We took a nap and soon it was time to wake up. Princess took a shower and got ready. Cinderella had invited her for dinner at 1900 PF for 7:30 and she did not want to be late.

We go out to the bus stop and wait about 5 minutes for a bus to Magic Kingdom.

Once we get to MK, we take the monorail to Grand Floridian. That was a stunning hotel. We found 1900 PF and checked in. About 10 minutes later, our buzzer went off and we were directed for our picture. There was a family at the front desk very upset because they could not find their reservation. She insisted they had one but it just was not coming up on the computer. I don't know what the outcome was but we never saw them in the restaurant while we were there. Anyway, here is our family pic in front of the Christmas tree:

We were seated in the very back of the restaurant. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to be in the main dining room but I just shrugged my shoulders and follower our server. She was very nice!!! I did not get any food pics here. The food was ok. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Add a strawberry alcoholic drink and the food was nearly excellent :lmao:

About half way through our first plate, Prince Charming comes to our table. Princess is just awe struck.. She could not stop staring at him.

We loved the character interaction that we would definitely go back for dinner.

After settling the bill, we left and toured the hotel lobby and got to look at the gingerbread house. That was amazing.

After we took our PP picture, Grumpy went to the bathroom. Princess and I sat down and listened to the piano man. Out of the corner of my eye I see a CM holding a bouquet of roses and holding two just engaged pins. I made eye contact with her and she smiled. I looked over to the couple in front of the tree taking their PP and all of a sudden he drops to one knee and proposes to her. She was all excited and it seemed their families were in on the secret because they were all to the side with their cameras and video cameras. They were real dressed up and looked very nice. Grumpy returned and asked what did he missed. I told him about the proposal and he said "Well isn't that special" But this time I knew he was teasing because he had a smile on his face. I knew little by little Disney was wrapping its magic arms around him!!

Afterwards I told Princess and Grumpy we would take the monorail to Polynesian because Christmas Wishes was about to start and I knew thanks to the Dis, that we would be able to see them on the beach. They were real excited. So off we went to the monorail and by the time we got to the Polynesian and found the beach, we made it with minutes to spare. Princess and Grumpy loved the fireworks.

Those desserts look so good! I'm not a wine person either, but here lately I seem to prefer a glass every now and then! It's always the characters that bring that short burst of energy back to them! Leaving that stuff must have made it that much more magical! I love it! I think that these are things that were worth time and effort because it makes them so happy! I love the prince photos and Cinderella! How funny that you almost made Lady Tremaine break character! The gingerbread house was really pretty! I had gotten some pretty good detail shots of it that I wanted to remember! And my son was in awe of that tree! We didn't get the PP done there though and I can't remember why.... Great way to end the night! And your just like me-- I got everything ready before we headed to bed because I didn't want my son to wake up without his little present!

Thank you!! Right before we were to leave, I almost chickened out in making them because I was afraid they would not come out right. But the more I looked at the designs I knew I wanted our family to wear them. We loved POFQ. I can't wait to go back.

You are too sweet!!! I am glad my photos will be able to help you. We came home with about a 1000 pics and 4 hours of video. I would have had more but I did not take a back up battery for my camera and it would die half way during the day so I had to be selective on what pictures I took. I could not be trigger happy like I usually am.

Half way during the vacation, I would lay down and forget to lay out the shirts. I would get up and run around the room hoping Princess would not wake up before I had time to lay everything out. We headed to the bus stop to wait for our bus. And wait we did.

Buses came all right, but not for Epcot. Finally one arrived and I breathed a sigh of relief since it looked like we would make it in time. BUT instead of going to straight out the gate, we were going to POR. The bus stopped at every stop and no one got on. Finally, we headed out of the resort and were on our way.

Once we got to Epcot, I was freaking because it was after 8.

Princess was saying "Oh no, not again." She was remembering her walk from yesterday. Actually, the bus stop is far from the entrance to Epcot. I wished it was closer.

We go through bag check and go to the right since that was the ADR line. There was a huge group in front of us, maybe 15 and there names were not on the list. I was hoping they could scoot to the side because I was itching to get inside. Finally, the CM asked them to scoot and we were up. Our name was on the list and we were given the go ahead to enter.

After Belle, we were seated and they explained that we could help ourselves to the cold bar and then they would be bringing out the hot food.

With the last of the princesses, we were able to eat and get the heck out of dodge. FW had just opened and we had some FPs to get.

Now, Grumpy did not know what FPs were. I had to quickly explain to him on our walk to The Land. Yep, we were getting Soarin FPs. Once we got the FPs, I told him we were going to book it across the park to Test Track. Grumpy and Princess were excited they were about to get on some rides. They are both ride fanatics. Me, not so much. But I wanted to participate with my loves so I put on a brave face and joined in. Once we saw the training video and they are showing the car going fast and running into a wall, I nearly flipped. But then Princess looked at me with that excited grin of hers and I said everything is going to be ok.

They loved TT. I mostly had my eyes closed and screaming nonsense words.:scared1:

Afterwards, with all that walking and sweating the ride, I was hot. We found a bathroom and took off our long sleeve shirts. After a quick costume change, we were ready to proceed. Our return time for Soarin was coming up and Grumpy said we had to head over. Told him negative. Told him we were going to Mission: Space. He kept saying "But the time says between this time and that time." Told him not to worry. "He said, alright.. we are going to miss it." He was all nervous nelly and I was calm as a cucumber. I bet you know why :cool2:

So off to Mission we went. I explained to him the two different levels. He wanted Orange, so that meant Princess wanted Orange. I vetoed that option. Told them green. I did not want us to get sick. So green line we went through. It was neat. We liked it

From there, we went on Spaceship Earth. For some reason, I thought this was the one with the neon blue tunnel. I kept waiting for it but I never saw it. Later in the week, I found out which one this is on.

Afterwards, we were on our way to find a clownfish. We stopped at a kiosk and got water. It was getting a little warm. Princess also saw a minnie mouse that she just had to have.

We show up and I see there is a line outside but it did not look long. I should have looked at the wait time but I did not. Here is a pic of Princess outside while we were waiting:

After finally jumping on a clam, we head out. I wanted us to go up to the aquarium and watch Turtle Talk, at least I think that is what it is called but I looked at my watch and realized we were coming up our ARD in Canada. Yep, it was already nearing 12:00.

We get to Le Cellier and check in. We wait about 10 minutes and we were called in. Inside is very pretty. It was a dark setting and I did not want to disrupt anyone with a flash so I did not take any pictures. Grumpy was not feeling too hot. I am not sure if he was fighting something, or if one of the rides got to him. For this reason only is why I feel he could not really appreciate Le Cellier.

My family loves steak. And that is what we ordered. Grumpy had the New York Strip with cream cheese potatoes, I had the filet mignon with cream cheese potatoes and Princess had the steak. It was very good. I cannot remember what dessert Grumpy got but I got the maple creme brulee. I never had a creme brule and yuck! I did not care for this at all.

Duffy was so cute. He started jumping up and down when he saw he had a whole page dedicated to him. He kept bowing to Princess because she had on her tiara. I am so glad we have video of this sweet meeting. The only ones on our list that we did not see were Beast and Senor Donald. Now it was time for us to use our FPs for Soarin. Grumpy was amazed we were able to bypass the 75 minute stand by line and head right up to the front and we only waited 10 minutes before it was our turn. We were front row and we loved this ride!! can not wait to be able to do it again.

Soon after Soarin, we head the restrooms to freshen up since it was time for our ADR at Narcoossee's. We took the monorail to TTC and took the resort monorail to Grand Floridian. Grumpy started feel under dressed when he saw people in suits and formal wear. (Remember, I made him put some things back when he was packing) I told him that this is one hotel that holds weddings and vowel renewals and these people could be guests of theirs. He started to relax when he saw people at the Narcoosees wearing jeans and shirts.

Dinner here was ok. We had steak again. It was good but I don't think it was $165.00 good. For that price, I should have been serenaded and given enough drinks to be drunk. This price did not include alcohol. I don't have any pics because I noticed my batter was going to die and I wanted to save some for MK. After dinner, we took a monorail to MK.

As soon as we got there, Princess wanted to find Mickey and Minnie. So off to the theater we went. The wait was only about 15 minutes.

They were so cute. Princess had good interaction with them. Mostly this night is documented on video since I did not have that much battery left in my camera.

After seeing Disney's First Couple, Princess wanted to get in line to see the Princesses. I told her they might be the same ones we saw this morning. She said she wanted pictures with them here in MK since she had some in Epcot. So off to the line we went. This one was a little more than a half hour.

After exiting the Princess room into another gift shop, Princess found Mickey and asked if she can buy him since Minnie would be lonely without him. After spending money in the store, in return, a nice CM took our photo.

When we exited the theater, the MSEP was going on. I told Princess and Grumpy for us to keep moving and we can see the next parade. Because of the crowd, we were ushered to the back and made our way into Tomorrowland. Princess wanted to ride Astro so off we went.

Afterwards, we just walked around Tomorrowland and before I knew it, we were smacked in the middle of this humongous crowd. Wishes was starting and it was pandemonium. I don't even know where we were but we were on some bridge. We watched Wishes and it was awesome. However, after, is where things got ugly. I knew that after Wishes, mostly everyone will be trying to high tale it out of MK. Princess started having a panic / anxiety attack. She was so scared with the crowds and worrying she was going to be separated from us. She started saying she couldn't see where she was going and freaked her freak. Finally, Grumpy guided us to a trash can that was in front of the castle. We propped Princess on top just so we could ride out the storm of people. I tried to calm Princess down and told her to take out her DSi. Grumpy said he was going to find a bathroom. She freaked again because she thought he would get lost. I told her he knows where it is because it was the same one he used the day before. She calmed down and soon we were able to see the park again since people were disappearing in either lands or to the exit.

My view from the trash can!!

I started looking at the time and noticed the second parade was going to start. I saw a couple of families sit down on the ground a few feet in front of me. I got Princess off the trash can and asked if it was ok if we sat with them. They were so nice. They go to DW a lot but this was their first time taking their youngest son. I turned and saw Grumpy looking for us by the trashcan and I called out his name. Told him the parade was about to start. He went across and got us popcorn. Slowly, Princess' smile was coming back. Soon we heard music and the beautiful sights of the parade. We loved it. I hear Spectro is better but since we have never seen it, we had nothing to compare this one to. Unfortunately, Grumpy forgot to record it and with my battery now dead, I do not have any pictures.

After the parade, we began to make our way to the exit. When we got to the bus stop, we were surprised there was a POFQ bus waiting. We got on and soon we were off to POFQ. As soon as we got back to our room, Princess crashed. Grumpy took his shower while I got tomorrow's shirts and letters ready. Soon it was my turn and then lights out.

Half way during the vacation, I would lay down and forget to lay out the shirts. I would get up and run around the room hoping Princess would not wake up before I had time to lay everything out. In this segment, you see the T shirt all folded nicely. Pay attention to some of my pics through out the TR. You will see that I literally almost threw them up on the table :rotfl2:

Sounds like that was a nice day! You know my son got really scared while watching the electrical parade with the crowds and the pushing and we had to leave because he was just freaking out! And it wasn't really kids that were pushing him around to see the parade it was adults! I wish that Disney had a way to fix that... sounds like the rest of the day went really nice though! I'm happy for you guys! And so many characters so far! Your good! My son and husband loved test track! We went on so many times and mission space as well-- my son and hubby loved the orange and I was getting sick so after a few times they would go on alone!

I am back....loving your TR so far!

I nearly died laughing when I read that Grumpy was cursing at the Cowboy/Giant Game...I knew right then I had a fellow Texan on my hand because my Grumpy was doing the same thing that night. Then on NY Day he had to go back to our room to watch the game...like it mattered now in the grand scheme of playoffs!

I teared up to the first time I saw the castle...it is totally amazing...and then to see it draped in lights...I think I might have bawled like a baby but no witnesses since it was dark. :rotfl2:

MK-Epcot...then possibly back to MK...and I thought I was a commando :worship: I am amazed how many ADRs you have gotten in. We barely got one in...I had planned for 2 a day and that did not work so well.

I love the daily surprises for Princess! You took a lot of thought and care into them...I even like more that you got Grumpy to wear them. My grumpy got matching colored shirts, although I did get him in one of our trip shirts a couple of days!

Your prince was cuter then ours at 1900 Park Fare. I know exactly where you are sitting...what did you think of the food?

I love the FP explaination and then high tailing it to Test Track...I had to do the same thing...but it only took dh to see the line wait time to understand my reasoning.

So sorry about the crowd scare...it scared me too! I can't even imagine what little ones think of it. We waited it out near a railing until it cleared...

Thank you so much!!!! We certianly will remember this trip and I am already wanting to go back. Have to convince Grumpy. He wants new living room furniture first. I will gladly give up furniture for a trip back to Disney.

Actually, that day we were supposed to arrive ato POFQ @ 10 am and head straight to Epcot for lunch then hit MK till it was time for dinner at 1900 PF. Thank you! When I got the idea from this board, I just knew I wanted to do this for Princess. Grumpy knows I like planning (he was there when we planned our wedding and don't even get me started on Princess' birthday parties) He knows I like to go overboard! I was actually surprised about the shirts. But like I said in an earlier post, I made sure he was involved with the decisions on which designs and what color shirts to put them on. I actually told him there were some nights he did not have to do them but he wanted to be cohesive with us. Throughout the trip, he was getting compliments on the shirts and you can tell he was proud :lovestruc

The food was ok. Not outstanding but was not horrible either. It is true, the charactor interaction definitely makes this restaurant. And I would continue going back as long as the Tremaines are there!

We had a blast and seeing my DDs expressions was more than I could ever imagine. Hopefully there will always be more trips but there can only be that one first trip!!

Thank you. Aww, all the credit goes to the wonderful Dissers!! If I had not stumbled upon the board prior to us going, I really believe we would never go back because Grumpy would have been miserable with long lines, not knowing how to get around, etc... We saw a lot of guests with First Trip Buttons who were walking around aimlessly or unfortunately were shouting to each other :guilty: Grumpy was also amazed how many people were showing up at restaurants while we were waiting for our table get turned away because they did not have reservations. He would always look at me and say, "We are good, right?" :-)

Joining in!! Our situation is similar to yours. It is our twin sons' first trip to Disney, their first plane ride, we are also staying at POFQ and we are surprising our boys. (Switched from POP when I saw the difference in price was minimal). It is also my first trip and my boys will be celebrating their 7th birthday while in Disney.

Thank you so much!! That is really sweet and I hope you are able to use some of the ideas for your trip!! As for the shirts, I got the designs from the Creative Board. I print them out onto transfer paper and then iron them on the T-Shirts. It was very simple. As for the autograph book, I got the autograph squares from the creative board as well and then I added my own touches to it to make her autograph book. Oh, same for the notes. The creative board made those and I just printed them off my computer at home. Easy peasy :-)

So lets start off now:

Since I wanted to be at the bus stop this morning by 6:45, I woke up Grumpy at 5:30 so he can start getting ready. After about a 10 minute discussion on why he is going first, we were already 10 minutes behind schedule. After he got washed up, it was my turn. Finally it was time to wake up Princess. For some reason, I did not take pictures of the shirts and letters this morning. :sad2:

Well, Mickey Mouse informed us via invites that we would be dining with Lilo & Stitch for breakfast at O'Hana followed by a morning at the Magic Kingdom. He had reserved the Fantasmic package with an early dinner at Mama Melrose at DHS followed by Fantasmic at 6:30. Today, Princess was going to have 3 shirts while mommy and daddy had 2.

Soon Princess got ready and while I was putting the finishing touches of my make up, I turned around and saw:

Yep, Princess had fallen asleep. Poor girl, she was tired. After getting her up for the 2nd time, we were off to the bus stop to wait for the Magic Kingdom bus. As you can see, it is still dark outside.

Soon a MK bus pulled up and we were on our way. While we got to MK, Grumpy was on his way heading towards the security check point. Told him negative. We have to go up the ramp for the Monorail to go to the Polynesian. BUT the ramp to the monorail was not open yet. After 10 minutes, they finally came down and opened the rope. So in a way, I guess we did make rope drop :rotfl:

Anyway, we board the monorail and finally stop at the Polynesian. I remember reading on these boards that they moved the check in towards the other side of the entrance. So that is where I went and checked in. We were given our beeper and took our family picture.

Finally our beeper went off and we were escorted to our table. We had a view of MK, it was really pretty. Soon they brought over the juice, which I loved!! Then before we knew it our skillet arrived with so much goodness.

Soon, it was time for the parade. Off went Princess while I shoved a couple of fork fulls of food into my mouth.

After she finished up her cupcake and we finished up our breakfast, we head out to change our shirts. For breakfast I was wearing a pink shirt with Stitch on a mickey head, Princess was wearing a Lilo and Stitch pink shirt and Grumpy was wearing a design with Stitch kicking back on a hammock relaxing on the sand. We would all be changing into a red shirt with a design of "our family" It had a daddy, mommy and princess based on our features. This was one of our favorite shirts and one we got the most compliments on.

After proper attire was on, we headed via monorail to MK. Walking under that train station into that magical world is so hard to describe into words. We probably did that several times during our trip and every time I was giddy and had a huge smile on my face.

Sorry, I thought I had pictures of us in our shirts with my camera but they are on photopass, which I ordered today. So as soon as I receive the CD, I will be updating!

Anyway, after posing on Main Street, we head straight to Fantasy Land and rode our first ride. Can anyone guess what it was?

Ha, ha! Yep, we did not go all the way to Disney World not to ride Dumbo.

The line was about 20 minutes. I turned around and batted my eyelashes at Grumpy and said "Would you be terribly upset if you did not ride Dumbo?" He asked me why. I said, "well, you can take our tickets and run to get fast passes for Space Mountain." He looked like a deer caught in headlights. I showed him on the map where it was (remember, he did not do any research before we left), kissed him and wished him luck on the mission. Told him we would be around Dumbo waiting for him. Well, off he went and through the que we went. Finally we were on Dumbo and all I kept thinking about while I was riding it was, "Dang, I am in their commercial... oohh yeah!!

We get off Dumbo and look around for Grumpy. No Grumpy! So Princess said she wanted to ride the carousel. So off we went.

She loved it. I on the other hand, was watching the kids in front of me making sure they did not topple over since they were climbing all over the horses :mad:

After galloping on Prince Charming's carousel, we got off and finally saw Grumpy. He had made it. With FPs and tickets put away I asked Princess what she wanted to do. She wanted to do the teacups so off we went. On our way, we saw White Rabbit. I asked her if she wanted to get in line or continue to do rides. She opted for rides. So that is where we went.

Her smile never left her face during this ride. She loved it!

Next we were on our way to Mickey's Philharmagic. When we got in, I reminded Princess and Grumpy that this was not like the movies at home. Do not try to get middle center because we would be told to move all the way over to the end anyway. So like good Dismembers, we went all the way towards the end and ended up with a pretty good spot. The only thing Princess was worried about during this whole trip is if someone taller would sit in front of her blocking her view. Fortunately this did not happen and she was able to enjoy the show. Love the part where Donald is flown into the wall.

After exiting the show, we went to Frontierland. We passed Splash Mountain because I was a wuss and did not want to get wet. We got in line for BTMRC. We waited about 20 minutes. This is where the cat was almost out of the bag about the shirts. While we were in line, Princess was in front of me and I was in front of Grumpy. I had my back to him and he was talking to a couple in the line next to him. They were asking him about our shirts. He tapped me on the shoulder and the nice lady complimented our shirts and asked if I had made them. I told her I did. Princess pipes in "Wait.. you made these shirts?" with a puzzled look on her face. I smiled at her and looked at Grumpy to distract her while I spoke to the nice couple and explained how I did the shirts. Afterwards, I looked at Princess, held my breath and apologized silently for the white lie I was about to tell her. I told her I had to say yes because I did not want them to feel bad Mickey left us shirts and they did not get any. Princess looked at me and said " You did the right thing Mommy. We would not want to hurt anyone's feelings. Maybe Mickey will invite them soon and it will be their turn to get the shirts." She then turned around and started people watching while Grumpy and I smiled at each other.

I made shirts last night (with lots of help from my friend) for my boys but not for myself or husband. He thinks i'm nuts and right from the beginning said that he was not wearing any shirts. Oh well.

How did you find the buses to and from the parks and resorts? We have a few early morning ADRs and I just planned to take cabs there.

I was the opposite of your husband! I was the first one to get ready then DS and DH at the same time since I'm the only girl and I'm the one that had to keep pushing them to get ready! I see that your daughter thought that it was funny how Pluto signed the book--- so did my son! And I used my grumpy (with his deer in headlights looks as our fastpass runner too)! LOL I liked the philharmagic too! it was funny and cute! And I thought that Donald in the wall was funny as anything! WHOA... nice save on the shirts! I don't think that I would have been able to think up that white lie that quickly! Okay all caught up! Sorry I have been MIA!

Hello everyone!! I am so sorry it's been a while since I updated. One weekend I threw my back out (putting on my shoes, no less:confused3), then the following week I was sick. Finally got a moment's rest to start updating again.


Let's see, when I left off we were about half way through our Magic Kingdom day. After we got off BTMRR, we decided to cancel our lunch reservation at the Plaza since we were still full from breakfast. I told Grumpy we should head back to Adventure Land. He was still telling me we need to use Fast Passes for Space Mountain. Told him we had lots of time and to just relax and chill. We came across Pirates and I saw the stand by wait was only 10 minutes. We went ahead and got in line. Now, Princess loves roller coasters and thrill rides but she does not like skeletons, zombies, etc. So she was not happy about being in line. I knew Grumpy wanted to ride it so we explained to her to remember this was make believe and if she wanted since it was a boat ride, she can put her head in my lap and close her eyes. And that is exactly what she did!! She was able to get a little rest and Grumpy was able to enjoy Pirates. To me, it was ok. I have not seen any of the Pirate movies so this ride kind of went over my head but it was cute. After we left Pirates, I saw the Jungle Cruise was next door. We began to get in line but when I looked at the time, I realized Grumpy had been ride. We were due to leave MK to DHS for the fantasmic package and I knew we had to hoof it over Tomorrowland to use our FPs for Space Mountain. When I told him this, I got that look again...I smiled and began walking to TL. Once we got to SM, standby was about 45 minutes. With the FPs we were able to wheeze on by and only waited about 10 minutes. Oh my word... Grumpy and Princess loved this ride. I was again screaming and me thinking it was an indoor ride, I left my cap on. Well not even a few seconds after we took off, I felt my cap leave the front of my head and the only thing that caught it was my ponytail.


After our fun ride on SM, we started heading out to the exit and took a monorail to TCC to catch a bus to DHS. Here is Princess on our way over...

Our only plan for today was to be at dinner at Mama Melorse's and then Fantasmic at 6:30. After looking at my phone guide, I realized Beauty and the Beast would be starting soon. So we headed over there.

Princess was afraid someone tall would sit in front of her so we got seats behind the audio in the middle and was perfect because she was able to see and there was no chance of anyone seating in front of us. We loved the show. I would love to see the original. Actually B&B was playing in our home town the week we left to Disney. I was so tempted to buy tickets but when I mentioned to Grumpy we could buy tickets and go see the show the night before we flew out, his eye started twitching and began narrowing. So I never brought it back up again :rolleyes1


After B & B, we just strolled our way up to Mama Melrose and took some more pics on the way.

Now, we come to the ugly. When we checked in at Mama Melrose, we were told that they were a little behind but they would get to us shortly. Princess and Grumpy sat in the corner near the entrance, which was a perfect out of the way spot so they can play her DSi. I stood behind that statue with the naked children, near the check in podium. Let's just say this was the perfect spot to wait because it was certainly interesting. A lot of people were coming in and being upset because they were unable to get in without a reservation. The ones with reservations were upset because it was taking way too long. I knew it was not good when the ones at 2:45 were coming up and asking how much longer and our reservations were for 3:30. Lets just say people were not happy. Finally it was close to 5 and we were finally called. Princess did awesome. She did ask me several times how much longer but I did not blame her for that since I was thinking the same thing as well. Here they are at the table...

Because of the long wait, Grumpy said he earned a margarita. I ordered a tropical drink. Pretty sure we were smiling again. The food was good. Not award winning but pretty good. Our waitress was excellent. When our check was finalized, she brought out our Fantasmic voucher and said to head out to the show about 6 pm. When we finally exited the restaurant, I looked at my watch and it was 6:10 already :scared1:


So we hoofed it over back to Fantasmic and began following the CMs with the signs saying Fantasmic Package. Well I am not sure if we got in the right line but when we began heading into the theater we were being asked to follow the line towards the middle. Now I had read on the Dis that the reserved seating would be towards the far right. So I asked a CM and showed him our voucher. He was like "Oh, no.. You need to go to that lady's area and pointed to a female CM. So we go to her and she says, nope you need to follow this gentleman. So finally after playing ring around the roses, we were led to our section. Since Princess is afraid of not being able to see, I told Grumpy to head all the way to the end so in case someone did sit in front of her and she could not see, she would be able to step out a little at the end of the row. So that is what we did and began to wait for the show. Princess saw light up ears that she wanted so we got her a pair.

Thank you so much for joining in. I got the designs from the Creative board. I ordered the shirts in bulk online. I looked at different websites and I used one that had good reviews and had the "Texas" shirt color. Since I knew it was a very close color to our beloved Texas Longhorns, I knew Grumpy would be happy with it. I need to look up what the name of the company was. As for the iron on transfers, I bought them online from AmyMickey. She is designer with the Creative board and she has produced these transfers that are awesome. I did need a few more and knew I was not going to have time to order some so I went and got a package from Michaels.

Yes, it was very early. And FL is an hour ahead our normal time so we were in shock when we thought how early it really was for us. But I do agree about starting early. We really did not have any complaints.

I actually wished I took more pictures and videos when we were on rides. Thank you for the compliment of my DD. Yes, her smile always warms my heart. Actually it is funny, DD and Grumpy always but heads. However, they never once did at Disney. What ever they have flying in the air there is surely magical :lovestruc.

Thanks for the sweet words. Yes, I am so glad that my DD still believes in the magic. She still believes in Santa, etc.. and as long as she continues to believe, we will continue to create as much as we can for her.

I was afraid Grumpy would not wear them but he was a good sport!!

As for the buses, they were awesome. We had early breakfasts the whole week and the only one that made us nervous was for the one for Epcot because it also went to POR. We did take a cab for our 7:30 Cape May Cafe breakfast just because I was nervous about taking a bus to DHS and transfering to the Beach Club.

My poor Grumpy. I always work it out where he gets read first so I can sleep more / be on the computer more. I think he is starting to catch on. It's so funny how we threw our Grumpys into the lion den for the FPs. I did it many times during our trip. Princess loved the way Pluto signed the book.

I caught up with your TR. At DD, at the lego store, is that your Grumpy in the reflection with the matching shirt over his shoulder? I love the way your shirts came out. I was going to make my Grumpy a shirt like yours but I thought that would not work, since clearly he was wearing matching shirts the rest of the week. LOL!!

Thanks!! I am glad you are joining in. Yes. We did have to wait that long for dinner. I believe it was because of the time of year (few days before Christmas) and the fantasmic package. When we were to make our ADRS, back in June, Fantasmic was only showing twice my week and only at 6:30. When you book the package, you have to provide them your CC #. Right before we left, they added several showings of Fantasmic and showed it everyday during our trip. Because of the CC on file, I did not want to cancel and be charged. So I felt we were stuck and just had to wait out the wait.

Yep I have been a slow updater as well! I am just catching up!
Oh my such a busy day with lots of walking after waking up early... she was tired! Glad that she got in little naps though!
I was not a fan of the grouchy people during the trip it was so unpleasant! I didn't have to deal with reservations since we cancelled all of the ones that we had made, but we did see some agitated people in other places!

Thank you so much. Yep, we are short but for the most time, we were able to get good seats. Oh my, that would definitely have been us if not for the Dis. Grumpy would have probably ran away back home if we were doing that :-)

I told my kids that Mickey brought them all of their shirts and invites - took it a step further and told them that Mickey went back home because mommy "forgot to pack" the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious shirts I had made them for their first Broadway show - Mary Poppins. Mickey brought it from our house because they just had to have it to wear to breakfast with her!!!

I have decided to brave it and do a trip report. Plan to start tonight since the kids are at grandma and grandpa's tonight so I have some time.

Can't wait to read the rest of your report!!!

I agree. I think my 1st trip (1/29-2/4/12) was so great because of all of the help I got on the boards. Hello everyone!! I am so sorry I have not updated in a long while. Everytime I tell myself I am going to post an update something comes up. I will try my best to get it done this weekend.

Also, when we returned from Disney, I said we would return in 2013. However, I am really, really wanting to return again this year in December. Grumpy says we have to sensible and pay down our bills and get furniture for the house that we have been putting off for a long time. I know that is the responsible thing to do, but in my heart, I don't want to do that. I want to book a trip now. I have gone to the website and entered our dates to find out how much it is going to cost and even requested a quote from DU. Because of the price increase, it is more than what we paid last year but I am still determined to go. It has gotten to the point I will start tearing up when I see the commercial for WDW and I get into a funk. Especially, when Princess says how much she wants to go back.

Grumpy had asked me why it was so important to me to go back. It is so hard to put into words. Grumpy and I work opposite schedules and once Princess goes to school in the morning, I don't see her until the evening. We share our lives with our work, family, exhaustion, etc... That one week we were in Disney, was just the three of us. I loved it. Sure, we can take mini trips here and there, that are less expensive but to me it is not the same. I had always wanted to go when I was a child but never got to. I made a promise to myself when Princess was born that we would take her. I just don't want it to be that one time. I just loved that Grumpy and I were transformed into kids again and got to experience the laughs and silliness with Princess. I could go on and on... See, I told you it was hard to put into words :sad1:

Any way, I know I am rambling. Hopefully, you are still out there and will enjoy my next installment of my trip report. :lovestruc

I totally get it. :hug: The one thing that drives me to make sure we go every year is the fact that it means so much to US as a family. Plus the knowledge that they won't be little for ever and I want to enjoy them as much as I can. Disney has given us so many wonderful memories and planning and looking forward to each trip brings us close together. I can't tell you how many hours we have spent watching Youtube videos and planning DVD's.

I so understand where you are coming from :hug:...it was a happy time for us too, a family time away from the drama of day to day life. I want that back! I have even run the numbers and everything, like you. And I know that the budget just is not there for a trip until at least 2014 (we want to do a cruise + disney)...that makes me sad, but I need a new car and we need new furniture...etc. I have promised myself and dh long ago, that anything is on our budget as long as it is paid for in cash.

I know how you feel...I would love to go more often than we do, but DH would not be into it, and we have chosen to do other memorable family trips which have been great too. We scaled back on our Christmas trip plans- taking five people to Disney over the holidays is freaking expensive :scared1:

Hello everyone!! Where I last left off, we were waiting for Fantasmic to start. I was so excited to see this show. Since I had seen some clips on line and of course seen pics from the awesome TRs here on the Dis, I had an idea about the show. Princess and Grumpy had no idea what Fantasmic was. The only thing I told Grumpy about it was that it included Sorcerer Mickey. SM is his favorite Mickey.

While everyone was waiting for the show to start, some one started doing the wave. For about ten minutes, people were standing, hands were in the air and yells were shouted. I on the other hand was too busy trying to find the correct setting on my camera. Princess spotted someone wearing light up Mickey ears and just had to have them. So Grumpy took out his wallet, especially since Princess had already waved the sales lady to her. Yep, my Princess knows what she is doing :rotfl:

We loved Fantasmic!! Now, I started panicking a little after the show ended. This night was EMH and my original plan was to stay for EMH, see Osborne Lights and everything else we missed. However, I remembered our little episode in MK when the waves of people took over and Sierra got scared. I wanted to avoid that. So I told Grumpy we should just head back to the hotel. He said what ever we wanted to do. Since Princess never knew what plans we had, (remember, Mickey was telling her what they were) she was not disappointed on leaving the park.

So we made our way out and got on a bus quickly for POFQ. Princess fell asleep on the bus and I realized I had made the right decision. When we got to POFQ I told Grumpy to take Princess to the room and I would go get food and refill our mugs. On the way I took some photos:

Hello everyone!!! I have some exciting news. Did you happen to take a look at my ticker :banana: Yep, we are going back to Disney World in 4 1/2 months. I still can not believe it.

As you may remember, I was feeling depressed because I wanted to go back sooner than Dec. 2013. Well, I started bringing it up to Grumpy and of course, he was not for it. He said we needed furniture and other things for the house. Especially, we both wanted to pay down our debt in credit cards we have. Which of course is the responsible, adult thing to do. I, on the other hand, was having my immature moment. :rolleyes1

So anyway, I started pricing out packages, you know, just for kicks. I decided to look up Princess' school schedule for the 12-13 year and I was shocked with what I saw. Her school would be getting out for Christmas vacation later this year. In order for us to go back in December, she would have to miss 3 days of school or we would have to be there during Christmas and New Years. Neither one was ideal. I started thinking about Thanksgiving break, but she would also be missing 3 days of school and it came out more expensive. So I thought maybe it just wasn't in the cards for us this year. Before I accepted my defeat, I looked at the school calendar again and noticed she does not start school until the very last week of August. Every year, she would return to school in the middle of the month. You all know what this means, right? We can go to Disney in August.... um, August. August is totally different than going in December. Hot and humid!! But hey, I'm a Texan. We're used to that kind of weather, I mean really, how different can it be.

Yeah, I know.. I can hear you all giggling. It will be a total heat inferno from what I have read. But what is my alternative. Sweat in Texas or sweat in Florida, in Disney, with the Mouse!!

So I came home and casually started talking to Grumpy about going in August. Of course, he did not think we would be able to pull it off in such a short period of time. And of course, he brought up about the finances again. It is not like we are destitute, but he is really conservative. And most of the time, I can appreciate that. But I was being a baby and I knew it but I just could not help it. I know it was not my proudest moment. Especially, when I said we are going to be going back every year. Let's just say, the conversation did not end well. I bowed my head, waved the white flag and surrendered.

Before he left to work, I apologized and figured I should just let it rest. I still had my videos and the Dis. I would survive.

A couple of days later, Grumpy asked me if we would stay at POFQ again if we were to go back in August. Hmmm, ok, a little curiousity. I decided to run with it and bring out the big guns.

I told Grumpy since we would be going in August, we would actually be able to go to the resort he first wanted to go to but I turned down because I thought it would be a waste to go there in December... The Carribean Beach Resort. I quickly explained since it would be hot, we can tour in the morning, go back for swimming and resting in the afternoon, leave for dinner and tour at night. I saw a little sparkle in his eyes. I did not push it.

A couple of days later, he asked me how much was the package. I told him I had found out on the Dis about the YES program. I explained he and Princess could go to a class and then we can buy our tickets that way and it would be cheaper. I also said, if we did that, we would pay for our food OOP since we would be unable to do the dining plan. We had done Deluxe last time and thought it was way too much food, so I knew he would appreciate this little tidbit.

A few days later he asked me what were the days I was thinking of going again. I told him August 10-18. A few days after that, he told me he had worked it out with work and he was free those days :scared1: Umm, does this mean, we are going?

Apparently, we went through our savings and he saw we had enough to pay our credit cards and go to Disney. So that is what we are doing :dance3:

Yeah, I know... I said CBR but my ticker has POR. Well, I chickened out on CBR. Yes, I was afraid of the size of the resort. I looked in the Resort thread and asked questions. I figured we would just go back to POFQ but someone said I should give POR a try. I looked at it and I thought it was really pretty. Grumpy and I looked it over and we decided we would give them a try. I showed him the new Royal Guest rooms. I told him they would be perfect for Princess however, they were 200 more than the standard rooms. He said since Princess did not know we were even going nor does she even know about the rooms, that we should book standard. Shucks! Yes, I wanted to stay in the Royal Guests Rooms but since he was agreeing to go back I was not going to rock the boat. So standard it is!!

So I bought our YES tickets and was about to book our room online last night, when all of a sudden I decided to call instead. While I was on the phone.. I heard to most sweetest words.... "You have a pin attached to your name." A 30% pin.... I almost dropped the phone. I could not believe it. I was calling constantly before I mentioned going back to Grumpy and was always told no. Before I could even ask the question, this sweet CM was telling me what I wanted to hear. So now we are booked in a Garden View at POR for less than a standard view.

What started as pricing a package of MYW tickets, room and Disney Dining, I was looking at a $3509.00 price tag. With 8 day hopper through the Yes program and 30% pin for a garden view at POR, we are paying a total of $1741.00 plus our spending money for dining and suvourniers. I am ecstatic. I told Grumpy last night about the pin, and he was extremely happy. So long story, short.. WE ARE GOING BACK, BABY!!!!!

So now, we left off on Sunday night coming back from Fantasmic. On Monday morning, we did our routine and woke up Princess. She read the letters from Mickey giving her the details of the day. Today we would be having breakfast at Cape May Cafe, then head off to DHS for most of the day. We would have lunch at 50's PT then end with dinner at Garden Grill in Epcot. She was real excited!!

We did see LCA before heading off to our lunch ADR at 50's PT. OMG!!! Love the theme and the food. This is actually on our list to go back to in August. After lunch, we toured a little more and then it was time for the parade. We found a spot across from Indiana Jones in the shade and it was the perfect place.

We left DHS and headed for Epcot where we had dinner ADRs at Garden Grill. Now, I don't know if it was the time or if I was just exhausted but I did not enjoy this dinner. I can't say it was the food, because I hardly ate anything. I think it took us almost 45 minutes past our reservation to be seated and the place where we were waiting for our names to be called was so crowded and hot. By the time, we sat at the table, I was now feeling well. And the rotation of the restaurant certainly did not help any. We will be giving it another try in August and will be going a lot earlier so I hope this helps. GG has Chip and Dale, my favorites so I am willing to give it another shot.

POR looks really nice- I think you will like it (and how could you not when you are at Disney??). I have done the World in summer months many times- including once when I was pregnant. It is do-able, don't let any negative comments make you second guess your decision. You have a great idea to go back and swim mid-day to keep cool. Spray misters work great too.

Hello everyone!! For our August trip news, I made our ADRs and was able to get everyone we wanted. The only one I am waiting to book is the Dessert Party.

Now we continue with our December TR:

Tuesday morning was out Animal Kingdom day. It was so funny, because every time we would watch Stacy, she would mention AK and Princess kept asking when we would be able to go. Told her it was up to Mickey since he leaves us notes everyday telling us where we were going. So every night before going to bed, she would wish out loud to Mickey to send her to AK.

Same routine as the days before. Grumpy would get up first with grunting as usual, while I slept a little longer. Then it was my turn to get ready. When we were almost done, we would wake up Princess. She no longer would jump out of bed but would ask us to give her the letters to read. I guess the week was finally getting her a little tired.

Mickey was letting her know we would be going to AK today where we would be having breakfast with his friends at Tusker House. For lunch he reserved a spot for us at Yak and Yeti and dinner at O'Hana. Oh, and not to forget the shirts he made for us!!

So we put on our shirts and got everything we needed for the day and soon we were off to the bus stop.

We did not have to wait long at all for a bus before one came and we took off to AK. We showed up and there were already a mob of people waiting for RD. See when I booked the ADR for 8:00, AK was supposed to open at 9 am. Well a week before we left, the hours changed and AK was opening up at 8 :headache:

Oh, well. What can you do? We got in line for the early entry breakfast and was able to walk in. I tried to get pictures with the empty park but Grumpy wanted to make sure we checked in on time. So we headed to Tusker House and I was happy to see we were right next to KS, which we would be doing after breakfast.

We were the first one to take our picture with Donald.

Afterwards we were shown to our table and went to the buffet. This buffet was really good. We loved everything and especially the juice.

Daisy got miffed with Princess because she thought Minnie would be there instead. Daisy shook her head and she took Princess' autograph book and put it over her head so Princess could not get it. It was cute.

After we saw Goofy, we finished up our breakfast and left. I was planning on sending Grumpy to get FPs for EE but I decided we would just hop on KS first and then get FPs. So that is what we did. There was no wait and we got right on. I loved KS but I am not going to post any pics. They did not come out at all :guilty:

So after KS we looked at our handy dandy map and decided to send Grumpy to get FPs for EE and Princess and I would look for characters on the way. Our plan was to meet up at Dinoland to see the Finding Nemo show. This was around 9 am.

After we said good bye to King Louie, I told Princess we would walk back around to Camp Minnie Mickey just to see how long the lines were on our way to meet up with Grumpy.

We had the best character interaction here. Especially with Chip and Dale.

I wish I knew how to put video on here because one of the chipmunks was bragging his signing box was bigger than the other and was rubbing it in his face. It was hilarious!!

While Mickey was signing the book, the little boy behind us was apparently anxious or something and the mother said "You do not even like Mickey". Mickey stopped signing and looked up. He pointed to his ear and then pointed to the boy as to say "I heard you." When the boy went up to him, Mickey turned his back. But then immediately turned around and gave the boy a hug. It was cute. Which I also have on video.

After Meeko, I looked at the time and saw that is was after 10:00. Remember I had sent Grumpy on ahead to get FPs and meet us at Finding Nemo. He did not bring his phone on the trip so there was no way for him to call me. So we hauled butt toward Dinoland. Finally we were reunited with Grumpy and got in line for the show. It was so good. I was really impressed with it. After the show let out, we decided to head to EE to see what the wait time was so we could use our FPs before lunch. Yes, lunch.... We had just finished breakfast not too long ago. This was the curse of the Deluxe plan.

EE FP line was short so we hopped on. Princess and Grumpy loved this ride and I screamed my head off as usual.

Loving your trip report. We stay in Dallas and went to WDW for the first time as a family in June 2009.7 nights at AKL. It was an escape from real life we all needed.

Our first true family vacation was such a wonderful experience that we returned again in September of that year. We have since gone to Disneyland in March 2011. I have wanted to go back but we also want to visit other places. If we don't make it there this year (no plans set but that could change at any time), we will definitely go back in 2013. Unless we take a Disney Cruise.

I got the designs from the Creative board. After saving them to my PC, I printed them on iron on transfer paper and ironed them to the t-shirts. To this day, Princess still believes Mickey delivered them to us each evening while we slept. Which kind of works out now since I will not be making shirts for our trip in a few months, she would still think we were specially picked in December to receive them and now it is someone else's turn :-)

Ok, so now back for the TR. I left off we had just finished riding EE. Afterwards, we mosied up to Yak and Yeti to check in for our lunch ADR. I really loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were seated upstairs. I can't remember what we ordered for our appetizers. For our entree, Grumpy ordered the steak and shrimp, I ordered the honey chicken and Princess ordered chicken lomain. I think from here, we took the train the Affection section, or whatever you call it. I don't know if I was already draining from the week, but I was just not feeling it. We took the train back and decided if we were going to watch FOLK or the parade since the times overlapped. Princess picked the FOLK. We went back to Camp M & M and got in line to wait for FOLK. Oh my gosh... this wait was forever. I am actually dreading this wait come August. When we finally got in, we were seated in the lion section. We loved this show!!! When we got out, I could not believe it was almost time for our dinner ADR at O'Hana. I was actually looking forward to this dinner when I had made the ADRs but I seriously was not hungry. I talked it over with Grumpy and we decided to cancel our ADR for O'Hana and head back to the room to sleep and then we could go back to DHS to see the Osborne lights since we did not get to see them the other night we were at DHS. So that is what we did. We headed out and said goodbye to AK.

Just found your TR and enjoying reading along. Looks like you had a wonderful time. Happy for you to see you are returning to Disney. I agree that the DDP is really much. Took a mom's only trip for Food and Wine in 2009 and had the regular dining plan and even that was a lot. Doing another Mom's only trip this fall for Food and Wine with the Free Dining, but doing some signature dining and plan to snack our way around the world for some. Usually, I do not do a dining plan at all. When we go with the kids, I pack up a box and mail it down to the resort about 10 days before we leave. I send down snacks, Pop Tarts, cereal, bowls and spoons, and whatever other breakfasty type items I can. Makes it much more affordable, and then we can have a quick breakfast in the room and head out-get an earlier start to our day.

You will love POR. The counter service dining there is good. Make sure to catch YeeHa Bob's show in the Rooster Lounge one night while you are there. It is one not to be missed.

I have done Disney end of August in 2008-in between 2 hurricanes. We had beautiful weather the week we were there. We hit rope drops daily and left the parks midday for a rest/swim in the pool. Put water bottles to the back of your room fridge-they will freeze and you will have cold water all day. Most important thing to remember then is to stay hydrated. Dehydrated people are crabby people, no matter what their age.:goodvibes POR pool is nice for kids-not so large that you can't see your people, but large enough that you are not on top of one another.
