I wanted to book a studio for my daughter and her boyfriend for June 16th to June 23rd, and the first 3 nights are not available. The did not have a studio or even a 1 bedroom for that week.
I wanted to make the reservation on the 7 month mark but they were going back and forth with their dates.
I had to wait list the entire week and I'm kind of bummed, I hope this comes through for them. I was going to wait until after the New Year to book the flights so I will keep an eye on the waitlist until then.

WOW That is interesting...Did you try all the views...standard, island, garden, ocean?

I am waiting for the 7 month window next week to make my ressie. I am getting worried now!

My DSIL just made a 7 month mark reservation at Aulani. The CM told her she got the last ocean view 1BR available for the period of June 15 through June 20th, 2012.

Maybe June is turning out to a really busy month at Aulani.

Aren't they still building the resort? Not all rooms have been declared into DVC inventory and they might not be for a couple of years.

Yes, more rooms should still be declared as sales progress too. I would think you should have a pretty good shot on the wait list coming through. Don't give up hope yet it's still early.

Lots of pixie dust for your WL to come through! :wizard: We are going in early June and made our reservations at the 7 month mark, I was thrilled when we got what we wanted and even more so now. I think you also have a good chance the WL will come through.

I'm curious if June will be a busier month in the summer than July through September due to the lower points. For some room types and views the difference is fairly substantial. We booked for June instead of July for this reason, and I'm wondering if others did the same. Hope the waitlist comes through for you OP. Best wishes!

We are currently booked June 9-17 but wanted the 12th-20th. Like you there was nothing the 18, 19, 20 in studio or 1 bedroom in any view.

I am going to keep my fingers crossed, I've never waitlisted before so this is a new experience for me.
I'll hang in there until mid March if it does not come through we'll have to see. I do not want to wait until the last minute to book airfare.

Phase II opened November 16th, however, who knows how many villas have been declared for membership use. Per wdrl (my dh), the website in Hawaii is not as user friendly as the ones in Florida. So it's possible that although more villas are completed they may not be available for members to reserve using their points because they have not been declared.

ddhoeg, I wouldn't be surprised that a lot of members are booking in June through the 24th for the lower point cost as we DVC members do like to save points.

Good luck to all of your with your wait lists.

Why did you have to wait list the entire week if only the first 3 nights are not available? In my experience, the fewer nights you wait list, the better your chances.

If you really want to book the flights whenever you see a good deal and you're sure their dates are final with no more flexibility then I'd go ahead & book whatever nights WERE available at Aulani and just make a refundable ressie somewhere else for the other 3 nights. Just waitlist the 3 nights that you're missing. That way you can finalize their trip and stress less over the waitlisting thing. If the waitlist comes thru great, if not, well hotels in Waikiki are fairly reasonable per night and I'd bet you could find something affordable at one of the Outriggers for the other 3 nights. I know it's not the ideal situation but if it was me I'd rather finalize my planning than play the waiting game.

This is not what I wanted to hear. Waiting until the 28th to try to book our trip. It is a HS graduation trip for DD. Hopefully I will be able to snag a reservation. Don't like the idea of booking a flight and adopt a wait and see attitude and if it does not come through, I would hate to spend $ on another resort.

June 15th is the Friday before most schools here on the West Coast get out for the summer....so you're competing with different vacationing habits out here I guess....and the weather is super nice in June on Oahu. Hot, but not too hot...

Bill, you are absolutely correct about your statement because I just saw that the prices for Aulani pts are going up from $120 to $135 starting in early Dec! This is not good because it will slow down sales IMO which means less DVC inventory.

Like most people I thought it was based on the Villas available. It's based on the ratio of DVC Aulani Owners to DVC owners of other properties. I think Disney will offer more cash ressies as a result. I really feel for those who have to spend the money to travel to HI and not get their choice of villas let alone any room. :sad2:

:scared:This also makes me VERY nervous. We are waiting (on pins and needles) to book our trip at the 7 month mark. We are not leaving until the end of July though and hope to get a 1 or 2 bedroom for 2 weeks. This will be our first ever trip to Hawaii so everyone is extremely excited. I really hope we dont have to go through the nerve racking processes of being waitlisted.

Hey if we can't get into Aulani, oh well. Aulani is only part of our planned Hawaiian vacation. We already have an NCL cruise around the islands booked. Maybe we'll spend time on one of the other islands instead. Although a travel agent we met that also happens to be a DVC member, mentioned that she has really good rates ($150 a night) for hotel side at Aulani with the fifth night free. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to get that rate. We won't be traveling regularly to Hawaii so why buy the points?

So here's a question for the most experience of you DVC'ers..

Alain seems to be booking up quickly during the summer. We are looking to do 7 days arriving on a Monday and leaving on a Monday. Now this isn't a typical reservation and I'm afraid that people who book a week from the Saturday or Sunday prior to my monday will use up all the available days from my Monday through saturday.

So the questions in can I book Saturday through Monday at paths 7th month mark and then on Monday just shave off Saturday and Sunday...

Would this be the best way to reserve it?

Yes you can. It's referred to as 'walking the reservation.'

It is a hot button on the boards, however and some folks object to 'gaming' the system like that. But it is allowed.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by a ratio of Aulani owners vs. non-Aulani.

For any given Use Day, DVC members can only book the number of points that have been declared for the DVC inventory. Even though Aulani's Phase 1 and Phase 2 are open and contain 185 two-bedrooms and 11 GVs worth 4,953,658 points, Members can only book using points the percentage that has been declared. If only 20% has been declared, then on any given Use Day only about 37 two-bedrooms and 2 GVs are available for booking using points.

I don't know what percentage of Aulani has been declared for the Membership. A new resort like Aulani is probably over declared, with declared Units far exceeding the number of points actually sold. For example, at AKV 72.54% has been declared but DVD has only sold 63.57% of the resort, yielding an excess of about 41 two-bedroom villas at AKV. What this means is that, in theory, if AKV owners book all the rooms they could during the home resort period, there would be 41 two-bedroom villas left for non-resort owners to book at the 7-month window.

The same situation is probably happening with Aulani. However, in my opinion, it would be in DVD's best interest not to over declare Units at Aulani. If Members discover that Aulani is easily available at the 7-month window, then why buy Aulani. However, if Aulani is difficult to book unless you own there, then it can only help to stimulate sales.

I meant exactly what you stated. It's not about the number of Villas available it's about the % that is "declared" DVC Units. Again, I think there are many cash based Villas available at this point based on what I am experiencing from my inquiries.

I called for June 16-24 at the 7 month mark. Called 6 am California time and got a 2 bedroom Island view. Standard view gone but on a waitlist. I was going to bring both daughters, son in laws and two grandbabies. Just found out my daughter is pregnant with her second baby and due the end of July. They wont be going now so I called to get a one bedroom instead. They were able to turn my 2 bedroom lock off to a one bedroom and change my reservation. Hope one of you guys got my studio part... Good luck,,,,,

Dialing tomorrow AM for a week. Refuse to walk the reservation but am hopeful that it works out. Looked into a week on the NCL but it was way too expensive. Will plan a few days before to go diving in Maui. I'll let you know what happens.

Yep. Called at 9:02 EST and got a 1BR Ocean View for the week. Texted DD at school and she just sent a Woo Hoo back. We scuba dive and I'll be adding a few days before at Maui to look at fishes. Very excited. Should I start packing now?

Glad you also got your reservation. Great family trip you got there.

Well let me tell you that if I had not walked this reservation I would have been waitlisted. The CM are telling me Aulani is getting tight as the days go on. This morning at 9am there were no ocean view studios available and everything else was booking up quickly. I'm so glad I booked 2 days ago and walked the balance of the days out.

True, but the points are lower at Aulani during the first three weeks in June, so I would expect that's a big factor for many DVC members traveling after the kids are out of school.

That is why I was looking for mid June, my daughter is a teacher and they get out on 6/8, but we wanted to book a week later in case of snow days.
Her boyfriend is hoping to go to Japan to teach for a year so they are trying to get in a vacaction before he goes for his training. Maybe if the wait list does not go through and her boyfriend does go to Japan she can go to Japan to visit him.
I just wish they had more flexiblity with their dates, oh well, we will have to see how this all plays out.

Exactly. The weather is perfect, the kids are out of school and the points are lower ... until there is more declared inventory, that timeframe is going to be a tough one to get at the 7-month window.

Last Friday I called at the 7 month mark to book the first 7 nights (July 2 - 8)of our Aulani trip and then on Monday I called to add the final two nights (July 9 - 10). There were several nights where a Standard View was the only room available in a 1BR. I know this is 4th of July week but for some reason I didn't think I would have any issues getting the room / view I wanted. Oh well.

I had already booked my airfare so I'm thrilled that we were able to get all 9 nights. Hopefully our waitlist will come through on the better view.

Hey neighbor... we are doing the Disney Alaskan cruise June 25th through July 2nd and then going to Aulani July 2-9th. We were waitlisted for a 1BR Garden/Pool view and it came through yesterday. I have a 12y/o DD any chance you have a girl around that age.. if so PM me and maybe we can get them to exchange email addresses, would love to get them to become pen pals...

We called at 9:00 am (7 month mark) and were looking for a 1 bedroom
Standard view from July 28 to August 4th. The only 1 bedroom available was Ocean View and they had 2 -2 bedroom standard view available. We took the two bedroom. I knew it would be tough but was surprised at how little was available. We can't wait to go though!
