Hey there good people of the DIS! Welcome to my first trip report to make it off my hard drive. Pretty sad actually… pages and pages of fantastic trip reporting only available to me. Sigh.

Oh well, turning a new leaf and this one is making it off the hard drive and will be complete!

So the cast of characters..such as we are, me cough-cough year old work from home mom. Yes, I get to work in my bunny slippers at home writing training courses and being the woman behind the curtain for my company’s Twitter feed. Some days this is a great thing; other days not so much. I miss being in an office with people. Grass is always greener.

My partner in crime is my DD11. I am very happy to report I have successfully brainwashed this child to be a Disney fanatic. She loves the place almost as much as I do. She is a dancer, and hopefully one day she’ll be dancing at Disney! Mama could use the free admission!

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/BarnettL_LZ268-isFLUHJ_02.jpg

In a guest starring role on this trip is one of my besties from back in the day and her family. And she’s a fellow DISer. I am proud to say I am responsible for her addiction as well, and frankly think Mickey and company should spot me a DVC membership for my efforts. I’m well on my way to converting my BIL and SIL, and even may have my other BIL over his hatred of the place (ugly incident with a CM and my niece). My efforts deserve a DVC membership, right?

I digress though. (which you should all know right now, I totally love going off on a tangent. I come by it honestly. You should hear my dad and my grandma. Those two..wow! Talk about diverting a conversation. I have to carve out a good two hours just to talk to my dad on the phone because I know I’ll spend about an hour talking to him, and another hour trying to hang up. Oh well…hey, look I did again..tangent!) Considering how much both my friend and I (and our families) love Disney you think we’d do the World together, but sadly that is just not the case. Most of our trips we miss each other by days. This trip we were there at the same time for one day. This is what happens when you live in different states and your kids are on different school schedules. Such is life. We’ll miss each other again by a day in November. We’re shooting for meeting up during Spring Break for a few days. So stay tuned and see if that little adventure comes to fruition!

Now that all the players have been introduced, here are the stats for the trip:

Dates: Sept 30 – Oct. 8
Resorts: Pop Century, AKL and Pop Century again!
ADRs- Hoop Dee Doo Revue (ya hoo!), Boma, Chef Mickey
MNSSHP on 10/6 – which wasn’t really decided until 10/2 ,but that is neither here nor there.

Well that’s it. Glad to have you along for the start of our second year as AP holders!

Our journey begins leaving a good two hours late. Which if you read the little bit of the last TR that actually made it from my hard drive it you would just shake your head and laugh. Pretty much par for the course for us. As it turns out though, a client sent some last minute changes to a training program, so this shook up my whole day. We finally shove off around 3:00 with about 8 hours separating us from a room at Pop Century.

We live in NE Georgia, and I have my choice of two routes- one that takes me through the country down to Macon, or I can drive through Atlanta. On a Friday afternoon this is a no-brainer right? Avoid Atlanta at all costs! Well you’d think that, but I’ve made that “mistake” before and creeped and crawled down a state highway just outside of Macon to avoid the afternoon rush in Atlanta and thought I’d never see the interstate. So off I head to Atlanta hoping for the best. I mean it isn’t like it is a holiday weekend or anything. Long story less long, the country route would have been a better choice this day. Good grannies at the traffic. At this point I figure we might as just go straight to MK and sleep in the car in the parking lot because by the time we get to WDW we’ll have to leave for MK any way.

We were able to make good time and minimal stops on the way down, and shortly after 11:00 we finally see this.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/0310012214.jpg

And we’re on the way to Pop Century to check in. Let me stop here (tangent alert!) and say how much I love on-line check in. I’m not really picky about my room location. I just don’t want the bottom floor. So other than that I’m pretty much good any where they choose to stick me. Maybe not near the elevators, but even that isn’t too bad- at least it hasn’t been thus far. Even at POR, where I really prefer the Alligator Bayou section, after 8 hours in the car getting in a room is more important to me than where the room is. So for me, on-line check in is a great option. Unfortunately this was not an option I would be enjoying on this trip. The horror! The on-line check in system was down when I attempted, several times, to use it. I was quite apprehensive about what I would find in the Pop Century lobby. Due to school we’ve had a couple of late night check ins and arrived to find a packed lobby. I was full of dread as we approached the parking lot and there sat a ME bus.

Happily, there was not a packed lobby though. We went to the line for check-in and there were four groups ahead of us. We didn’t wait too long before were able to approach the desk. The lovely CM, we’ll call him Dave, looks up my name and says something about there being two guests in the room and the he needs to see my ID. I hand over my DL at which point my DD, a bit silly from so long in the car, says to Dave she doesn’t have a DL to show him. She’s only 11. Deciding to play along, Dave looks at her, extends his arm and points her in the direction of the exit. Not to be out done, my DD turns around and walks out of the line. Stone faced as you please she walks back towards the exit of the main building. All along Dave is say, okay she’s coming back now. Nope, Dave she isn’t. I try and tell him she’s just playing along, but he isn’t convinced. He then looks at me and said, “She really left.”
“No,” I said, “she’s just hiding around the corner.”
“No, he said, “I watched her through that window (he points to a door at the other end of the desk area with a small window in it). I saw her go outside.”
“Well she won’t get too far,” I said, “I have the car keys. However, you could make her night and put us in the 60s section.”

Dave gives me a half-hearted smile. For one thing, we weren’t in a preferred room, and for another he is genuinely concerned that he has upset her. I tell him not to worry about it. She’s just messing around. He explains where our room is, and as he is pointing out the building, I tell him I know exactly where the building is. We’ve stayed in this same building in the 50s section on the same floor and on that same “leg” of the building multiples times. We’ve even been assigned twice to the same room. Weird how that works, huh? Dave is unimpressed, so I take my leave of him.

I find my DD hiding around the corner near the exit doors. She thinks she is pretty funny, and I let her know that poor guy thought he had upset her. This she finds even more funny. It is getting late, and I’m ready to hit the hay. We find a close-ish parking space and haul up as much junk as we can. We take a ridiculous amount of stuff. But because we drive, we take all sorts of goodies…just in case. We get everything but the cooler and head off to our room for the next three days.

When we arrive it is a sauna, and I immediately blast on the A/C. I start getting our stuff we’ll need for the next day out of the Disney bag (yes, we have a bag of lanyards, autograph books etc. that stays packed and ready to go at all times). DD has discovered the western feed of the Disney Channel and is all excited she is not missing the new shows. You can understand her excitement since Disney Channel rarely repeats shows after they have aired. I remind her we have an early morning, and if she wants to eat b’fast in the foodcourt it means a real early morning!

By this time we are past midnight and it is Oct. 1. Happy 40th Magic Kingdom! We’ll see you in just a little while.

Rise and shine! It’s the Magic Kingdom’s birthday! Yeah, I’d like to say I was that chipper and excited, but no. I slept later than I would have liked, and spent the morning in a panic that I’d have to drive over to MK. Well, we moved pretty quickly and were able to get out and grab some breakfast over at Everything Pop.

The true test lay before us as we headed to the bus stop. It was past 7:00, and I had wanted to be in line at 6:30.

I know what you’re thinking.” Sheesh lady, why all the fuss and hurry to get to MK. The place didn’t even open until 9:00 that day.” Here’s the thing. Last Oct. we had an 8:05 ADR at CP. I had stalked the bus stop in the days leading up to the ADR and figured if we were at the stop slightly before 7:00 we would be in good shape. Well, slightly before 7:00 we arrive at the bus stop, and wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. We waited to the point that I couldn’t make a break for the car. Finally the bus showed up around 7:30. Us and most of the line were heading to early ADRs. The others were kind enough to let my DD and I and the others with 8:00 ADRs off first. So, therein was the source of my panic.

I tell my DD we may just have to suck it up and drive over (I don’t like driving to MK when I plan to be there all day) depending on the bus situation. See we also had to exchange our AP vouchers and purchase a TiW card. With large number expected at the park, I wanted to be there early so as to avoid any potential crowds at Guest Services. Well, there was no need for worry. As we walked out the doors and headed to the bus stop, we see a MK bus pulling up. The line was longish, but we made it on the bus. It was the beginning of wonderful “bus luck” for the trip.

We cruise on over to MK. As we approach the CR there is a huge line of traffic waiting to get in. What the heck? Is there convention or something going on. Some special event. No, as we would find out from a lady we stood next to at the Castle presentation, it was people waiting to get in and park there rather than the MK parking lot. She had tried the same thing, saw the mess and parked at the Poly. Umm…okay.

So we get to Guest Services and there is no line. No more than 10 minutes later we are armed with new passes and a new TiW card. Woo hoo! We are "renewed"...let year 2 with passes begin!

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0633.jpg

We go get in line at the turnstiles. A few minutes later CMs show up handing out some 40th Anniversary buttons.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/1fe95a02.jpg

Eventually they start letting people in through the turnstiles, and we go get a front and center spot for what I like to call the Magic Morning Show. I believe Disney insists on calling it a Welcome show. I like my name better. While we are there we see the crew from the WDW Radio podcast. They are handing out stickers that look like an old WDW ticket. Seems they are doing a 40 hour live podcast. Pretty cool.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0640.jpg

Since we have some time to kill, it is photo op time.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0645.jpg

And while I’m at it, I take a moment to grab a shot of the waiting crowd.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0658.jpg

There were lots of great t-shirts people had made, but the best thing I saw (both this day and at MNSSHP) was a girl around 10 who was wearing a Mad Hatter costume. She had on an Alice style dress, but it was orange, an amazing hat and mis-matched socks that some how still worked with her outfit. She was carrying a Mad Hatter pook-a-loo as well. It was really impressive.

The magic morning show commences,

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0664.jpg

and at 9:00 they let the masses into the park.

Yahoo! The park is open! We grab a the special park map that was printed for the day, and pile on to Main Street with everyone else.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0665.jpg

If it weren’t for that big castle, I’d swear this was a shot of the TSM stampede.

As we make our way up Main St. we see people grabbing spots along the sidewalk, in the hub and in front of the castle for the presentation which will be at 10:00. We decide we’ll head over to Tomorrowland and grab some Space Mountain FPs and then head back to steak out a spot. Well, we get back to Space and the place is dead. Seriously the place is a ghost town. We see Chip and Dale over at Club 626 dancing with one little girl. You know that kid was having the time of her life.

We decide to take a spin on Buzz since the place is vacant before heading back to the hub. On the way out we ran in to Stitch..just hanging out. It was great.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0667.jpg

We head on back toward the castle to stake out a spot for the shindig at 10:00 at the castle.

Now, as all of this has been going on, I’ve been texting my friend. They are trying to get in to park, and as we find us a spot in the hub for the festivities, they have finally made their way into the park. I text my friend our 20, and finally they find us! Woo hoo! Reunited and it feels so crowded. Everyone sing along! Big hugs for my friend, and the kids reacquaint themselves. My friend’s DH volunteers to take the kids over to Tomorrowland to ride Space Mountain and whatnot as we are the only ones with any real interest in the show that is about to happen at the castle. Fine, be off with you then. None of you are true Disney fans! Kidding of course. I’m sure if either my friend or I were clairvoyant, we would have bailed too. However we stayed behind, excited about what was to come.

As the hub steadily packed in, we chatted about the day’s plans, how their week had been, and what they thought of Sara-topia. Sara-topia?! What the heck is that you’re asking, right? Well to find out, you’ll have to check out my BFF’s TR here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2799213).

About 15 minutes or so before the “festivities” the Main St. Philharmonic was brought out to entertain the masses.

Normally, this is right up my alley as a former band geek. However, the band was playing from castle stage and wasn’t amplified, so they were really hard to hear over the rather large crowd that had assembled by that time.

Finally the big moment, the “parade” approaches. Now when we picked this spot we asked a nice lady on an ECV if she minded if we stood behind her. She was was perfectly fine with it, and we chatted with her a bit before the parade. She told us that a CM said this was good spot as the parade would be passing down that side of the hub.

As the moment drew near, people stood in front of her, blocking her view and ours. At least we could maneuver to see, but she couldn’t. I tried to get some pictures, but mostly I got shots of people’s heads.

My friend on the other hand, just held her camera up and started snapping pictures, hoping for the best. This turned out to be a good technique as she got some really nice shots. Check it out here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2799213&page=10).

The parade goes by, characters emerge from the castle, the fairy godmother appears on the balcony…awesome!

Sadly, this is where the awesomeness would end. The Disney ambassadors were introduced. You couldn’t understand a word that was said. Underwhelming. My friend and I decide this has taken an unfortunate, lame turn, and decide to go find the rest of our group over in Tomorrowland.

As we cross the hub and make our way over some VP is introduced, and I think, hey this may be turning around. We pause for a moment, and no, still lame. We move along. The kids have ridden an number of things, one of which is Astro Orbiter. I really want to ride this again, and I can’t believe my kid has ridden this without me! She has been steadfastly refusing to get on it again for some unknown reason. Grrr.. Well we ride Buzz again,

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0694.jpg

and grab some snacks. We decide to head over to the Liberty Square area by way of the tea cups. My friend and her hubs are not the tea cup riding sort, so the kids and I ride while my friend goes to return an item she purchased earlier in the week and her DH waits.

The line is pretty small. When we get up to the CM asking how many is in the party, the kids say “three”. THREE! What am I? Chopped liver?! No, I’m the parent, and not to be regarded as a person. LOL! I look at the CM, and say, “I guess I’m on my own on this one.” My DD tries to make up for this slap in the face, by saying, “Um we mean four. We forgot she was riding.” Please, whatever. We move all the way to the end of the holding area, filling in all the available space, and getting dirty looks from the folks lined up along the rail of holding area.

Let me just say, this is one of my favorite parts of going to WDW. After a couple of attractions you think folks would understand when the CM tells you to move down and fill in all the available space, you should do just that. There ceases to be a line for the attraction at that point. But no. I assume it is the need we westerners feel to line up for things that overrides the instructions being given. Inevitably, when I fill in the available space, people who have maintained the line will give me ugly looks. And for some reason the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, is the king of the dirty looks ride. I’m not sure why that is, but it is. I guess it is the drive to get an “insert color here” cup. Anyway, this always cracks me up, and 9 times out of 10, as I feel the anger rolling off of whomever is offended that I have moved “past” them, the CM working the pen will shout at people to move down and fill in all the space because they are now having trouble getting the pen filled.

The previous spin ends and door to the holding pen is opened, and the herd rushes to the cups. I follow the kids as they load in a cup….and then shut the door leaving me standing there. What?! Oh no they di’nt! I quickly grab a nearby cup, as my daughter tries apologize. “We didn’t know you wanted to ride with us.” Well, why would I when I’m clearly not wanted around! LOL! It is just as well because other wise I wouldn’t have gotten these pictures,

or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1atkwsPr6Oc) video which is short because I didn’t do a great job of keeping the camera on their cup as mine spun around.

We get off the teacups, find the friend’s DH and then meet up with my friend over close to Mickey’s Philharmagic. We decide to visit the Haunted Mansion and then head over to Frontierland. Since we’ve all been through the “new” interactive queue, we bypass it this go around.

We make it out of the mansion alive, although those pesky ghosts switched my friend’s and my head around. I’m sure she was relieved when she go hers back. We get off and head over to Frontierland. The line at BTMRR is a trifle long for me and DD, as we unfortunately have to take our leave of our friends and head over to Epcot for a Mom’s Panel Meet and Greet. We all say good-bye, and my friend invites us to come visit them at Sara-topia after we’re done. My daughter seems quite folorn. She has no desire to go to the Mom’s Panel thing, and I secretly think she was trying to figure out how to get invited to spend the next few hours with them. :rotfl:

We head out passing through Adventureland. As we pass the Tiki Room, my daughter notices that the next show starts in 2 minutes so we decide to pop in and see the new-old show. We have only seen the show when it was “Under New Management”, so I really want to see the “new” version. Well, the show starting in two minutes is full, and for some reason, we decide to wait around for the next show.

By far the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen waiting on the Tiki Room.

We thoroughly enjoyed the "new" version, but now we are pretty darn late for the Mom’s Panel Meet and Greet. We make a mad dash for the monorail and head to Epcot.

We arrive at Epcot and check in just inside the gates for the event. We’ve arrived so late, that I’m afraid we may be turned away, but no and it appeared there were quite a few no-shows or late arrivals, so I didn’t feel too bad. The super sweet lady who checked us in tells us there will be another table outside the Odyssey (where the event was held) where we will receive wristbands to enter the event. We haul it back to the Odyssey, get our wrist bands and enter the Odyssey. The place is bathed in pink, and the party is in full swing.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0711.jpg

At this point we are pretty darn hungry, so we grab some eats from the buffet and sit down. Whew! It felt good to sit.

After we relax we join in the fun by meeting Donald and Daisy.

I was able to speak to several of the past and current moms and a dad. They were all very nice, and very encouraging. At the time I was full of hope that this would be the year I would make it on the panel, or at least to one of the next rounds. However, yet again, I wasn’t chosen. *sigh* Oh well, there’s always next year to try again, and in the mean time, I am my own personal “mom’s panel” to anyone who will listen. LOL!

The M&G wraps up and we head out with all our balloon animals and hats in tow. (I had a spectacular pink and silver crown with a baloon heart on top. However, the picture did not turn out, so you'll have to use your imaginations.) As we are leaving DD tells me how much fun she had, and was glad we went. I have to concur. This was a really great event. Even if you have no desire to join the Mom’s Panel, it is as fun family event with loads of people who share your fondness for Disney.

At this point you’d think we’d had a full day, and it time to pack it in and relax. Nope! There is a special fireworks display for the 40th to attend, and the big event for the evening, the Hoop Dee Doo Revue!! Unfortunately it is gotten too late for us to go visit Sara-topia and make our ADR, but we did make a pit stop at SE and Project Tomorrow on the way out of Epcot.

Rather than take the monorail back to MK and board the boat for FW, we opt to take a bus to FW and then use the internal transportation there to get to
Pioneer Hall. The good bus luck continued as a FW bus pulled up within minutes of us arriving at the stop, and we had the bus all to ourselves.

Next stop…Hoop Hop Hooray!

Oh, so the pics were rotated sideways when you first saw them? ( I couldn't figure out what you were talking about!) Weird. I rotated and cropped everything before I posted it. I wonder why you saw them posted all whackadoodle? I'm sure some obnoxious glitch with Photobucket. I'm pretty darn close to trying a different photosharing site. Lots o' problems iwth that thing.

Don't feel bad! I'm not sure I could have left her any way. I didn't drive that day, and with a 5;00 ADR it probably wouldn't have worked out too well. I'm sure she would have enjoyed hanging with y'all too. She enjoys spending time with your kids.

And we have never done the Tiki Room, so we need to on our next trip. And your new camera takes amazing photos. We are getting a new one before we go since ours crapped out on us.

Defninitely add the Tiki Room to your checklist. :thumbsup2

I'm digging my new camera. I'm still playing around with it. The night time photos I got were sooo much better than what I was getting with my last camera. I can't wait to get pics of the Osbourne Family lights!!!!

I can't wait just to SEE the Osborne Lights !! And we want a camera that takes better night shots as well. And one that doesn't just turn off randomly when you try to take a photo.

Yah Hoo! Hoop De Doo! We LOVE the Hoop De Doo Revue! If you haven’t experienced the HDDR, you must, must, must put this on your Disney ‘bucket list.” (How this one doesn’t make Stacey’s list I’ll never know!)

We made our way down to Pioneer Hall about 30 min. before our 5:00 reservation. We pick up our tickets and just hang out. DD sees some hula hoops that have been set up outside the Trail’s End Buffet and gets to hula hooping. This girl loves to hula hoop! In May of 2010 we went to what was the family dance party at DTD. They had a hula hoop contest, and she was one of the last two in the contest. She lost when her pin lanyard caught the hoop while doing some sort of trick. She was devastated. She came home, bought a hula hoop and practiced at home so she’d be prepared for when we returned to the World the following Oct. Well, sadly, when we returned no hula hoop contest. However, fear not her efforts did not go unrewarded. In March we were at Epcot and they had a hula hoop “station” set up by this awesome sand sculpture for the African Cats movie. They were timing people, and she hula hooped until she broke the record for the day. Yea! Accomplishment.

So DD is hula hooping and I have a lovely conversation with one of the hostesses at Trails End. Ma then has us all called to dinner with the ringing of a big ol’ triangle. We hadn’t had much to eat for lunch, and were both starved. We made our way over to Pioneer Hall, where the CM nearly seated us in the balcony (Actually not a bad spot to sit, however, when you pay $10 extra dollars for Category 1 seating…), until I pointed out we had category 1 seating. I had made the mistake of not following up after my online booking, and at least asking if I could request a section to sit in. We love the HDDR, and go most trips. On the May 2010 trip, we were seated in what many would consider the best seats in the house…right next to the stage. By this I mean our table is practically touching the stage.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0721.jpg

True you aren’t having to look around someone’s head, but it is entirely too close for my tastes. You will generally see parties of two seated here, but I had noticed when were seated there the first time that the row of tables behind us did have a couple of parties of two. I meant to call and request not to be seated right there on the stage, but neglected to do so. Sure enough we were seated right there on top of the stage. “Best seats in the house,” the hostess told us. However, our table location was the least of our “worries” as we were toting an impressive collection of balloon hats and animals as you recall. The challenge was definitely the 3 ft. tall hat my DD was sporting. It wouldn’t fit under the table, so we had to wedge it between the table and the stage. We were secretly hoping the Two Bits would see it at some point during the show, and either say something about it or wear it. I managed to squeeze my crown under the table, and the dueling Squirts enjoyed a table top view of the show.

We gave our drink order, munched on salad and cornbread, (which is not real cornbread if you ask me. It is corn muffin bread..too sweet!) and listened to the musical stylings of Smilin' Jack and the piano dude whose handle I have forgotten until the show kicked off.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0722.jpg

Finally we hear the stagecoach arriving! Enter the Pioneer Hall Players. Woo Hoo! The music starts up for the opening number, and it is wrong! The opening number is completely different! What up with that?! I have to assume they changed it because of the lawsuit which currently embroils them over the use of the Hoop Dee Doo polka. If not, it really should be changed back. The new one is not nearly as good.

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0729.jpg

Oh well, the show goes on, and despite the new opening number, it is a delightful show. This time much of the cast was new to us. The actor playing Two Bits Slocum and the actress playing Claire de Lune were the only ones we’d seen previously. Having seen it several times now, we usually see the same group of actors. If there is someone new, it has been in the role of Johnny (Claire’s dance partner).

http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n601/ktiesmommy/Disney%20Oct%202011/DSCN0728.jpg

At the Hoop, they do several audience participation numbers. One of them is to go around and ask where people are from, and then make up a little song. Judging by the audience reaction, I’d say there was a large contingent from Louisiana at the World that day. Also they go around to ask for people celebrating their birthdays and anniversaries the day of the show. There was young girl from Australia celebrating her birthday, and two marriages of over 40 years. Impressive.

Some yummy food (you just can’t go wrong with chicken and ribs), and a lot of laughter later we exit Pioneer Hall and board a boat for the Magic Kingdom to cap of the 40th celebration with a special presentation of Wishes. I have to say it was definitely the most memorable Wishes we’ve ever experienced.

Loved you Hoop de doo revue !! Shame on you for not taking food porn. :lmao: This is something we are meaning to do someday. It is definitely on our Disney "bucket" list. Did you get any cool fireworks photos with your new camera ?? It takes great photos by the way. Or wait, maybe it is that you are this awesome photog ??? :rotfl:

What day are leaving for your Thanksgiving trip ?? I've been watching the weather and it changes every day. One day it 60 and rainy and another day, the same forecast has sunny and 79. I guess we will just see when we get there.

I'm off to bundle up and chase and fuzzy yellow ball with the girls for a couple of hours. Tennis with the ladies !! YAY !! Talk to you soon !! Smootch !!

Sorry, I don't believe in objectifying my food in that way. :rotfl2: Actually, I just never think of it. I did take a picture of DD's impressive dessert plate at Boma, but that was as much food porn as I bothered to shoot. I wish I had been more thoughtful about it esp. at F&W. We did a good bit of sampling there, and had some really good stuff.

So we will arrive Thanksgiving, or at least that is the plan for now. DD wants to do the family thing, so I guess that's what we'll do and then head on down around 1:00 or 2:00. It will be a quicker trip than I'd like, but that's okay since there will be more Christmas stuff out to see than there would have been if we had gone eariler in the week.

I did not get fireworks shots. I think I was too afraid I'd miss something in the special presentation. I did get some MSEP pictures that turned out pretty good (they'll be in my next update). I wish I was super photog, but I'm not. I just point at the action and take a bunch of pictures, and if I'm lucky I'll get a good one or two. I really struggle with the whole photography thing. One the one hand I feel like a schlub when I see that there are people who take 1000+ pictures, and I average 250 a trip. On the other hand, I feel like I am missing out on the action when I'm taking the 250 pictures. I actually would like to get better about shooting video. My camera shoots 1080p which is nice, it just doesn't balance the light the way a camcorder will. I shot some video at HDDR, but it is so dark that I didn't bother putting trying to put it on here.

Hope you had fun at tennis, and hopefully we'll have some sunny days at WDW!

:welcome: archdandy! Glad to have you along. Yes, we did a lot that first day, and there is still more to come! We are what I guess you'd call laid back commandos. We are there at open and generally stay until the end of the day, but I don't plan out every ride in order and what time we should be at what attraction. We just kind of make our decisions as we go along. This day was a little more packed and planned out that normal due to the Mom's panel thing.

It was exhausting, but fun! We slept well that night.

We arrive for an evening at the Magic Kingdom. Rather than head off to ride anything, we decided we’d just chill out and watch MSEP. Now, I love a parade. I really do. But for some reason most of the parades at WDW just leave me feeling lukewarm. I haven’t watched the afternoon parade at MK in a couple of years, and until they change it, I don’t imagine that I will see it. This would be the first trip we would see the AK parade (so I’ll save my thoughts on that one), and the one time I saw the HS parade was enough. I wasn’t a huge fan of SpectroMagic, and only like MSEP slightly better. It has the kitsch factor going for it. For me the night parades are something to do while waiting to see Wishes. On this occasion though, it had been a long day, and I knew the place would be packed for the evening fireworks so, we grabbed us a spot outside of the Emporium to wait.

We nabbed our spot pretty early, so I tell DD to hold my spot while I jump in to the Emporium real quick to find a pin. The CM working to door tells me, they don’t have the pin. Since they didn’t have the pin, I decided to make a quick dash back to the apparel section to look for a Nerds shirt. DD’s school was having Spirit Week once the fall break was over. Each day will have a “theme”, and one of these is Nerd Day. We decided before hand that she should go as a cool Nerd and we’d see if we could find or make a Nerds t-shirt at WDW. It was packed in there, and on my way back to the ladies section I see a “wall” of CMs in the hat area. Turns out a CMs was laid out in the floor with a couple of EMTs hovering over her. CMs were surrounding the area to give the EMTs room to do their job. Whilst passing through, I heard someone say the young lady was new CM and has passed out. Poor thing. I can see where working somewhere like that on a really busy day could be physically overwhelming if you are not used to the kind of work that requires being on your feet a lot.

When I reach my destination, I find one really cute shirt with a nerd Minnie. I would have purchased it then and there, but Minnie was pink and my DD has attitude about the color pink. I blame myself. I dressed her in a lot of pink when she was little.

Rather than go back the way I came through, I exited on to Main St. and walked back down the sidewalk to our spot. At this point I became the keeper of the balloons. Nice. I got everything arranged so I was essentially holding one balloon creation, and set it down on top of the trash can. While we were waiting, a woman with a couple of kids, one of which was in a stroller, moved in behind us. The child in the stroller was a little girl, and she was enamoured with my balloon crown, and it was clear she really wanted to get a closer look. I offered to let her hold the balloon and check it out. Honestly if she didn’t have a sibling nearby, I would have told the mom they could have it. I was pretty tired of keeping up with the thing. Then something sort of funny happened. A CM was walking the streets sweeping up trash and what not, and comes over to the trashcan where we were standing. He then attempts to take the 3ft. tall balloon hat that I had resting on top of the trash can and throw it away. He was pretty surprised when he found someone was actually holding on to it. I know it wasn’t pretty, but trash? LOL. I had to laugh to myself. I guess they see all sorts of interesting things just left on top trash cans.

It is about time for the parade to start when a woman and her two pre-teens find themselves out on Main St. with no spot. Seeing the trashcan, the woman points it out to her kids and the all head over to it and sit in front of it…on the street. Well you can guess how that went over. A CM tells them they have to move so she tells her kids to squeeze in on the curb next to the trash can. First time I’ve experienced that one. While it didn’t affect me (well it affected my pictures b/c they kept standing up), I felt bad for the family standing next to us. Dad was none to happy I can tell you. I let the little girl who had admired my hat get in front of me so she could see, and the parade kicked off. Let the kitschy fun begin!

Here’s my question, are Pete and his Dragon no longer in the parade? I hope they still are b/c they are one of my favorites. They were missing this run, and I didn’t see the second parade to see if they were in that one. As the parade wraps up, we head back into the Emporium. I show DD the Nerd shirt, which shockingly she likes. We decide to check out other shops for more merch though. There were slim pickings at the Emporium. We walk through Emporium and out through Casey’s to go find a place for the special Wishes.

I would have preferred to stay in the general area of CP, but it is packed and there isn’t room so we head a little closer to the castle. The MM&Y show is kicking off so we stop and watch it. I really like this show even if they did not use the AWESOME picture of my DD and niece with Cinderella I submitted to the Memories website. Once the show is over the CMs start telling people to move off the sidewalks and fill in the street area of the hub. No one moves. You don’t have to tell me twice, though. We weave our way through and stand in the street as directed. Ah a little bit of breathing room.

It isn’t long and the special Wishes kicks off. So what was special about it? Well for starters Tink did not fly! It wasn’t particularly windy nor was there any sort of weather in the area, so I was completely befuddled why she didn’t fly. I can only assume something was up with the equipment. Let me tell you there is quite a hole in the show with out her flight. The true specialness of the show was the addition of 180° fireworks and a beefed up finale. It was super cool. I love 180° fireworks, and wish they’d make them a permanent part of the show.

Special Wishes over, it was time to exit with a gazillion other people. I had been hoping the exit wouldn’t be quite as bad as it normally is since the park was open until midnight. And it wasn’t, it was worse. There was no moving. Hoards of people were trying to leave, and hoards were trying to get in. People were getting really hot under the collar. We tried in vain to make our way to one of the sidewalks so we could escape through the shops. Fifteen minutes after the show had ended, we finally made it from the back end of the hub to the near walkway that goes to the Tomorrowland Noodle place. Yeah, it was that bad. That would take you all of a minute to walk that on an ordinary day. Mercifully as we neared the sidewalk a CM yells out, “You want to leave, come this way!” Again, you don’t have to tell me twice. We follow the CM directions and exit through a backstage area. I wish there was something cool I could share about the backstage area, but there wasn’t.

A quick five minute or so walk later we were exiting the park. As we were heading to the buses, we talked about the craziness that just ensued. We saw a good number of people entering the park, so it was clear that there were quite a few people pushing their way in while many were trying to get out. I couldn’t help but think of the scene in Finding Nemo when the tuna were trapped in the net and Nemo was screaming at them to swim down. I told my DD my thoughts and said I should have started shouting out “Swim down. Swim down” to lighten the mood. She was unimpressed with my attempt at humor. Reaching the bus stop, our good bus luck would continue. The line was pretty much non-existent and a bus pulled up within minutes!

We had to take a detour through CBR due to the F&W race that was about to start. There was slight moment of panic on the bus from a handful of folks who missed the announcement about the detour. We arrived back “home” around 11:00. Not bad considering the odyssey getting out of the park and the detour.

So the 40th anniversary for us was action packed without really “doing” stuff. Very few attractions were visited, and there was a lot of waiting around. We did enjoy spending time with our friends, we had a great time at the meet and greet, and of course HDDR. We can say we were there, which is always nice. Now to plan for the 50th….

We hit the sack as it would an early morning adventure at Animal Kingdom. I wanted to be there bright and early so we could get on KS first thing. Would we make it? You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out.

What ?? DD not like pink ?? Blasphemy !! I love me some pink. You really did get some great parade photos! Wow!! I would be sad to find that Pete and Elliot aren't in the parade any more. Hopefully, there was just something wrong with the float. We figured that MK would be crazy that night and it was at the end of our trip, so we were super tired. Happily I made up nice and early. I ended up deciding that morning, that despite the fact I really didn’t want to drive to AK, it would probably be for the best since we had a reservation at Boma that evening. I didn’t want to chance that there wouldn’t be a bus available back to AK since our reservation was pretty close to when AK would be closing for the day. I really do not like driving to AK. Nothing about it appeals to me. It is only slightly less of an ordeal than driving to MK…in my experience anyway. So since we’d had such a long day the day previous, I took my time getting myself together and let DD sleep in a little bit. When I get around to waking her up I head to Everything Pop to pick up pastries for b’fast. We shove off about 30 min. before park open, and I deal with the fact I will probably not make rope drop, but we will still get an early safari ride, and for that I’m excited.

We make the short drive to AK, and as we approach the gates, it is a sea of brake lights. Good grief! Why oh why didn’t we just take the bus! I’m wishing there was a lane for pass holders and resort guests so we could wave on through. We eventually get through the gates and parked. I’m a little worried about what we will find at the turnstiles. We’ve arrived at AK in the morning on a couple of occasions to be met with this incredible log jam of people and found our longest wait of the day to be at the turnstiles. Weird, wild stuff. Happily though, we made it through the turnstiles pretty quickly. We haul it back to Kilimanjaro Safaris. When we approach the posted wait is 10 min. We are on a truck in 5. Woo Hoo!

I highly recommend the early safari. I’ve been pretty early in the day before, but what a difference being there pretty close to park open makes. Forget that EE FP and haul it to the safari! We saw so many animals and they were out and active as opposed to hiding in the trees.

We saw this rare site… hippo out of water.

There are usually two cheetas in this area. The second one was hiding in the trees. People were oo-ing and ah-ing over the fact the one hiding in the trees had a baby with her. The guide didn’t mention there being a new edition, but it really did look like she had a cub sitting with her. I tried to get a picture, but it was so dark you can't even see her in the picture.

It was a great safari! No lions, but they are divas and it is hard to get a glimpse of them nomally. We grabbed a fast pass on our way out to come back later.

We decided to bypass the Pangani (or as I call it Paganini) trail, and headed over to “secret” trail along the tree of life.

While I have known about the trail for a while, we have yet to walk it. Talk about a regret. Very cool and quiet area. Well except for these guys…

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6240/6348762361_541d7da737.jpg

They greeted us not long after we entered the trail, and were screeching to no end. I don’t think we were happy we were interrupting their quiet morning.

These guys were also nearby.

I hope you enjoyed that “family vacation slideshow” presentation of pictures!

We spent quite a bit of time on the trail looking for animals on the tree. We exited the trail and headed back toward Discovery Island. By this time our FP for the safari was about to come up. We had such a great time on the last one we decided to go ahead and go again now.

I tried to sit back and just enjoy the trip, but no.. I snapped a few more pictures. And yes, a couple were of giraffes.

We would move on from here to look for characters, eat lunch, and go catch Festival of the Lion King. I was surprised to find out they now offer FP for this show. Hmmm. We didn’t use it, but good to know. We sat in a section in which we’ve never sat before.. the giraffe section. As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise." If you thought the safari was bad, just wait until you see the pictures from our stay at AKL!

After FOTLK we head over to Asia, and decide to take in the Flights of Wonder. This is a hidden gem of AK. For years we bypassed it thinking big whoop a bird show. However last year we decided to check it out, and were not disappointed. This is a great show, and if you haven’t seen it, put it on your list. The show is just kicking off as we enter. They have updated the cultural references in the tour guide’s shtick which was nice because it was like seeing a “new” show. DD is itching until they get to the parrot (I think) that does math. When we went previously she was chosen to compete against the bird in a math contest. Knowing how it works, she is determined to make a fool of the bird this go around. Unfortunately she would not have the chance as the bird was not doing his math routine, but something entirely different and it was hilarious!

We leave the show and head over to EE to grab a FP or ride depending on the wait. It was all of 15 min. so we go ahead and ride, and then go find us a spot for our first viewing of Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade. Would it be our last? Stay tuned to find out.

As previously mentioned, I do love a parade, but for the most part Disney’s parades just leave me feeling lukewarm. I know weird, right? I was looking forward to seeing Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle parade. The pictures I’ve seen of the parade are so colorful and lively, but we always seem to have something else scheduled that prohibits us from being able to stay long enough to catch the parade. So we find us a front row spot and plop down to wait.

Finally the parade begins.

Excitement is in the air as the parade moves down the street.

This was pretty funny. The Brers come down the street and are out waving and what not to the crowd. Brer Rabbit goes and hides over in the bushes for a good couple of minutes while all of this is going on. A handler eventually pulls him out and they move on.

Okay, so here its. Meh. Yeah, meh. Again left lukewarm. Frankly the best thing about the parade was when two squirrels ran out into the street from the bushes and were fighting. They couldn’t decide whether to be more afraid of each other or this huge crowd of people. In their fear they would keep running toward the crowd which would elicit screams from the people in the path of their flight. They eventually figured it out and carried on their brawl in the bushes. It was the biggest reaction from the crowd the whole parade. Funny, funny stuff. All that said, I totally was digging the bicycle float things. If I were in a Disney parade I’d want to be in this one just so I could drive one of those things. Actually, I take that back. I’d want to be in Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it!, but I’m not sure that counts as a real parade. I am glad we finally saw it, but don’t imagine we’ll sit through it again anytime soon.

I'll have to stow away my compulsion to run to EE next time we are in AK and go to the safari instead. I'd like to see some more of the animals out and about. I'm not a big fan of Disney parades either. We've never really gone out of our way to watch them.

OK. Did not know that FOTLK had a fastpass. We didn't need one when we saw it, though.

You didn't like the AK parade ?? I love it. It's my third favorite. Boo to You is first and Spectromagic is second. Do you think they will ever bring Spectromagic back ?? I like the MSEP as well. But usually, we don't take the time to watch parades either, so I haven't seen any of the daytime parades besides AK. I want to see the AK Christmas parade next week though. Looking forward to more !!

Parade finished we head back to take another spin on EE. DD is cool with doing single rider this time, but the line is again short so we just hop in the regular line and enjoy the ride.

We decide to head on over to Dinoland and ride Dinosaur. I love the ride part of this ride, but the story is just okay, and it is crazy loud. I ride with my hands over my ears as much as possible. Still having some time to kill before we need to head over to AKL for our dinner, we decide to ride Primeval Whirl..or Primeval Hurl as it is colloquially known. We have had a 50-50 experience on this ride. The first time we rode it was 2007. DD was so excited because on our first trip she was just at 48”, but we had her 4 y.o. cousin along with us and she wasn’t tall enough, so we had to bypass it. We get on the ride, and we were slung around that car like… I don’t know what.. but I lost one of my shoes in the process of the ride if that gives you any idea. So for the longest time we refused to ride this. Finally in 2010 we gave it another shot. That time the slinging was far less as it wasn’t just us in the car. Since the ride was down when we were there in May, we decide to give it a go this time. So the two of us and man in his early 20s load up. All the weight is to one side of the car as I sit next to the man and my daughter is on the other side. We got a pretty good slinging, but apparently from her carrying on she got the worst of it. This guy was just laughing away at her through out the entire ride. It was something else.

We decide we won’t ride Hester and Chester, better known as Triceratops Spin, and decide to head on out for AKL. We’ll be there a bit early, but that will give us time to scope out the place really well before we move over there the next day.

As we are exiting, I teach DD how to Monkey walk, and we make quite a display of ourselves as we head out of the park. If you saw us, I hope we gave you something to talk about. LOL!

It is hard to ignore that compulsion for the EE FP, but it will be worth it. Our FP return time was an hour after our first go around, and even then there was less action.

We didn't need to go the FP route either, but it is interesting that they offer it now. I don't think I've ever been turned away from FOTLK, so I'm not sure why they have it. I guess it would be helpful during high volume times. The FP machine is over by ITBAB should you ever feel you need one.

I really thought I'd like the AK parade b/c from what I knew it was different than the other parades. I'm sure at some point Spectro will make a return. I like the music to that one better than MSEP. I would give MK afternoon parade a try just to say you've done it.

DD and I decided to pass on the Christmas parade at AK based on this experience. I am excited that I figured out how to do all four of the holiday themed night time activities. We'll see if it works out. If I don't get to see CP, I may just have to make another trip down to see Neil Patrick Harris narrate. I got all hyped to see it after hearing him describe it on the Kevin Pollak Chat Show. NPH is big Disney fan as is Kevin's girlfriend. It is fun when she gets all hyped up about Disney anytime anyone mentions it. You should check out the one with Patrick Warburton. About an hour in to the interview he talks briefly about his work for Disney, and it turns out he is huge Disney fan as well.

We tried to do rope drop and rest and then go back out, but after two days we were exhausted and just did rope drop the rest of the trip.

That just means you'll have to go back for Thanksgiving next year. ;) I really wish we had seen more of the storytellers, but I just couldn't be a killjoy and pull DD out of HS when she was having such fun riding things with your kids! She loves not being stuck with just me. And it was funny I tried to keep us there to draw Lanny.

We arrive at AKL quite a bit early for a Boma reservation. Since we are checking the next day, we decide to scope the place out. First, there is an impressive number of what I refer to as “tree spots” in the self parking area. At other resorts at which we’ve stayed, and Pop in particular, there aren’t that many. We enter the lobby and I pause for the requisite lobby photo.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6213/6348860839_95541cf196.jpg

We then head out to Arusha Savanna area to check out the animals on the savanna.

There was a CM talking about the zebras and answering other guest questions nearby. Can I just say how cool that is! I mean it is plenty awesome enough to just stroll out there and watch the animals milling about, but to have someone who can answer your questions etc. Very cool! Anyway, we hang out there for a while then stroll over to the firepit located just outide the lobby doors to rock in the massive rocking chairs and get off our feet for a bit.

After we’ve hogged a couple of chairs long enough we decide to go check out the pool area. Now, the pool is impressive, but for some reason I was expecting it to be much larger. The pictures make it look really huge. I love the little tiki hut bar out there too! We stroll over to another savanna area. This one has a number of Flamingos, and not too far away some zebras.

DD is enjoying watching the flamingos, so I walk around to check out some of the other animals. In doing so I catch this.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6032/6348863057_8acc98d6a1.jpg

She was doing some funny little bird dance to flamingos. I had to laugh. I asked her later what she was doing, and she said she was trying to calm them down with her dance. Apparently a couple were fighting with each other. That girl cracks me up. She’s my flamingo whisperer I guess!

It is finally approaching our reservation time so we head back in to Boma. I loved the light fixtures in this restaurant.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6055/6349617952_e2d9e30fee.jpg

I would like some of those in my house.

We are greeted by a lovely waitress, who explains the buffet to us as we’ve never been to Boma before and takes our drink order. In general, I am not a fan of buffets. In fact WDW is really the only place I go to them, and mainly we do character stuff. This buffet is the bomb(a) diggity! Truly fabulous. They had a lamb curry dish that was to die for. Sooo much to try, and I certainly didn’t get to it all. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the babootie. My large regret was not trying more of the soups and salads. I could have eaten nothing but that and been happy. I tried a chicken chowder type soup that was delicious.

If I had a complaint it would be the desserts. Wait hold on zebra dome lovers..my complaint is not with the desserts themselves, but that there isn’t much of a selection if you can’t do dairy base desserts. There was an apple crumble that wasn’t particularly great, sugar cookies and brownies. Like I need the desserts anyway. I should look at it as a blessing, and eat more soup.

My DD was happy to make up for my inability to consume the majority of the desserts. Here is her initial trip to the dessert bar.

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6115/6349622324_9015df1b42.jpg

She said the caramel cheesecake was the best. I noticed she had passed on the zebra dome, and I asked her why. She said there was a sign that said the dessert contained alcohol so she didn’t think she could have one. Well, having read so much about this dessert, I had to give it a taste. I went up after one. Oh. My. Gosh! One of the best treats I’ve ever eaten. I immediately regretted that I even tried it. It was so good, and I could only have a little taste. Torture! This dessert absolutely lived up to the hype..and then some.

So overall, I highly recommend Boma. Different foods, a good variety of dishes on the buffet, great service and a let us not forget the amazing desserts! Oh, and I should mention, if you have a picky eater on your hands like I do, there are plenty of dishes that won’t offend the less adventurous palate.

Thoroughly stuffed, we settled up and headed back to Pop to pack up and get ready for the big move to AKL the next day.

We load up the car, and head on out of Pop. But not to AKL..nope we’re headed to Epcot for a bit and then will go to our new digs in the afternoon.

We arrive at Epcot just after rope drop and head on down to Soarin’. We arrive to a see a 15 min. wait posted so we head on in to the cavern that is the Soarin’ queue. Due to the short wait the interactive wall thingies are not turned on. DD is very disappointed. She very much wants to play the games and what not on these screens. I tell her if she would prefer to wait in the standby line for an hour just to play the games that’s fine. No thanks, she said. I’ll used FP. Hmm… that’s what I thought.

We get back for our first ride, and make the mistake of not asking to be placed in row 1. Me being the impatient, ride it now, now, now sort, I force us to take our chances with our seat assignment. Row three. Sigh.. great ride with just an extra view. We grabbed a FP on the way out for a ride later in the day.

We hit some more rides…you know Test track and what not. We eventually made our way over to Innoventions and were disappointed to learn that the Waste Management exhibit is gone. Some healthy eating thing is going up in its place. Today we won’t be going to any of the F&W kiosks. That will be saved for another day. We leave Innoventions and catch the F&W version of the Jammitors. I can’t remember their official name, but they are dressed as chefs and play all sorts of pots and pans. Love them!

You’ve all read about them right? The symbol that identifies you as Disboarder… the lime green Mickey head. I’ve read umpteen posts of people who put them on strollers, resort windows and bags of all sorts. Having never seen one, I’ve written it off to being an urban Disboard legend- kind of how I felt about people taking photos on dark rides. Well I’m hear to tell you the LGMH wearin’ folk do exist! People really do it!

There we were, heading to the stairs down to the Soarin’ cavern when I saw it..a LGMH affixed to the flap of woman’s backpack. Across the LGMH she had written her screen name. We were a good distance from her, so I picked up the pace to try and catch her and say “hello!” As it was nearly noon, the crowd was pretty thick, and we couldn’t catch her before the escalator. When we got downstairs, I tried again, but continued to be foiled by the masses of people. As we approached Soarin’ she turned for the FP machines never to be seen again. No I didn’t follow her over there.. I had a FP to use! Not to mention my DD would think I was crazy for chasing some random stranger down when we could be getting on Soarin’

So if you were at Soarin’ just before noon on October 4, and have a black backpack with a LGMH with your screen name written on the backpack- I saw you! Hi!!!

So one more urban legend verified. Yes, Virginia people do take pictures on dark rides and they do display Lime Green Mickey Heads!

After grabbing some lunch, and hitting a couple more attractions in Future World, we head out to unload at AKL. We just have a standard view room. Savanna view was a tad out of the budget. That is fine because as we found out the day before, there are a number of areas where one can view the savanna. Plus my research showed that the standard view rooms are generally near the lobby area and thus the pool, restaurants, bus stop etc, and sometimes you get a room with a savanna view that is not good enough to warrant savanna view prices. I figure if I have to lean a little.

We arrive at AKL and have bell services take our luggage. We are assigned a room on the kudu trail, and as it turns out, were sent the long way to our room. We were in room 2212, and were actually not too far from the lobby. I’m glad we figured that out quick and weren’t schelping all the way to the elvators on the hall to leave!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6508930637_3a640a1de7.jpg

We arrive to our room, and my DD is in heaven…bunk beds! She is so excited about this. She immediately assigns herself the top bunk.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7161/6509050143_a2dba52c20.jpg

Not sure who she thought would fight her for it, but it was cute none the less. Since we weren’t assigned one of the rooms that faced the parking lot, I made a bee line for the balcony door to see if we’d be able to see anything on the savanna. Here’s what I saw walking straight out on to the balcony:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7159/6498854819_3b0efebc7f.jpg

And if I turned just slightly to the right…

AWESOME! What a view! Since the CM at check-in didn’t tell me our room was upgraded, I’m not sure what view room we actually had. But if this is Standard View, I’ll take it any day of the week. We were on the Sunset savanna. There weren’t too many animals out and about yet, but the closer to sunset the more came around. Could that be why it is called the Sunset Savanna? Hmm.. Lol!

There will be more pictures to come from our lovely room, but on this day we could only enjoy the view for a little bit, as we were headed back to Epcot to Eat to the Beat.

Oh my gosh! I am soooo excited for Eat to the Beat. The band we are there to hear is .38 Special. I love me some classic rock, and southern classic rock even more so. Last year .38 Special came the week after we left, and I was so bummed. I thought about coming back down, but reality sank in and I didn’t. So I was definitely doing the happy dance when the performers and dates came out, and I saw I’d be able to catch them this year.

Now you may be thinking my poor kid was going to be bored out of her mind, and probably doesn’t even know who .38 Special is. Well, not so much. Both her dad and I listen to a classic rock station in the car, so she is familiar with them…or at least their big hits anyway. She is far less familiar with contemporary pop acts than she is with classic rock. Is that wrong? You know it might just be. LOL!

We drive over to Epcot, and decide to grab a sausage in pretzel roll from the Germany F&W kiosk for dinner. We love pretzel bread. We take our dinner (and some apple streusel for my DD) and head over to grab a seat for the 6:00ish show. I have to say the sausage was not that great. Thank goodness for mustard that gave the thing some sort of flavor. The pretzel roll was yummy though. Having eaten, we kickback and wait for the band. Right on time, the show starts up. It was a GREAT show. The audience for this show was more the sit down and take in the music sort than the stand up, dance and sing type of crowd. This is bit distressing to me as I am ready to rock on out, but I totally get it. There are shows where I’d just prefer to take it all in, and am forced to stand up because the crowd is on their feet. So I sit and bebop in my seat to great songs like: “Wild-eyed southern boys”; “Rockin’ into the Night”; and “Back Where You Belong.”

But why talk about it when I can show you:

That's what I said..if this is standard view I'll take it any day, and happily save the $$ on the savanna view! It was a really neat resort. I LOVE WL, and I wasn't sold on AKL over WL at first, but the longer were there the more I enjoyed AKL.

I love your room photos. That is the exact setup we had at Wilderness Lodge. The kids really enjoyed the bunkbeds. We are super excited about staying at AKL in April.

I am so jealous of you getting to see 38 Special. I would have loved to have seen them. Looking forward to reading more.

I think y'all will really enjoy AKL...especially the kids. There is so much to do there. After staying in the middle of it all BWV it might feel a little "out of the way", but then again you are supposed to be in a lodge on the African savanna so you shouldn't feel like you are in the middle of things, right? :lmao:

After the show we head back toward the “front” of the World Showcase. As we are doing so, the last show of the day of the new acrobatic act from China is getting under way.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7033/6508919763_1df209cbcd.jpg

It is a good, act, but I like the previous group better. Of course since we are passing though China, we must spend and inordinate amount of time at the gift kiosk along the walk way for DD to play with the Chinese yo-yo, batons, and now the plates. She was inspired by the girls in the act, and must learn how to spin plates!

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7168/6498925607_2c85f491ba.jpg

Eventually I drag her away, and we get a lovely spot for Illuminations. There is this great area down close to the lagoon between the two gift shops. How I have not found this area before I am not sure! It was a great spot to watch. I understand they use the area for private events, so perhaps that is how it has escaped my notice thus far. I go grab DD and I a little sweet something to snack on while we wait. The show start up, and is lovely as always. I always forget how much I like this show until I see it. Visually I don’t think the show equals the its musical accompaniment, but as a package it is great.

We make our way out to the parking lot along with the rest of the masses after the show, and head back to AKL. I will go ahead and admit my one great mistake in staying at AKL…we never went to observe the animals with night vision glasses. I know..the horror! I don’t know how I managed to forget to do that, but I did.

Tomorrow is another early day as we are headed to HS. And we all know what that means RD for TSM!

We head off bright and early for HS, where we join several thousand of our closest (by proximity) friends in the mad frenzy that is the morning rush to Toy Story Midway Mania! Our plan of “attack” is to ride, and if we feel the need to go again, we’ll get a FP. This what we’ve done for a few years now. It simply isn’t worth getting in the FP fray. Although, that fray has improved over the years. I think have CMs there to move the process along has helped tremendously. Anyway, we make our way through the queue and ride. I lose…a first. I had a horrible round. I didn’t even break 100,000! Grrr. I spent the whole time trying to find the Easter eggs. I think there is a FP to redeem myself at the exit!

So, at this point we decide we want to investigate something we passed in the herding over to TSM. We saw a sign related to something going on with AFV- Americas Funniest Homevideos. We go back to the sign and find out we need to head back to a theater in the Streets of America area. We head back to that area of the park, but first we must take a tour (or two, or three) of a galaxy far, far away. I am a Star Wars geek, and LOVE the reboot of the Star Tours attraction. We take several spins around the galaxy, and even end up in the same speeder in the same seats twice. Pretty weird, huh? It was funny because we also had the exact same beginning on all three of our rides, and the same end twice. Not as random as one would hope, but still a good time.

With the rebel spy safely delivered, we head back to the Streets of America. I had grabbed a map earlier and the theater isn’t on it, but we soldier on and will ask when we get back there. As it turned out we didn’t need to ask. A CM was back near the theater recruiting people. The CM explained that we’d be watching the videos that were in the running for the $100,000 prize, and if we hurried we might make it before they closed out this group. The next viewing would be in an hour. We hustled back and just made it.

Once in both the DD and I must sign releases, and we are handed a sheet to vote for the video of our choice. A man comes out to explain what’s up and kind of warm up the audience. Then we are treated to short video with Tom Bergeron further explaining what we’ll be viewing and the prizes at stake. Here’s the skinny. We’ll be watching six videos. Each has won the weekly $10,000 prize and now is up for a $100,000 prize. That’s what we’ll be voting for. The video that wins the $100,000 will be in the running for the season grand prize of a DVC membership for life and some other stuff. Frankly after DVC membership I quit listening and began thinking of what videos I had at home I could send in.

Finally the videos begin. The first two were hilarious- a poor grandmother being tortured by a laser pointer, and a bride that gets in to a complete giggle fit during her vows. There was also a some cute animal ones and funny children ones. I really don’t remember them because the first two were that funny. The time to vote comes, and DD immediately votes for the laser pointer grandma video. I am really torn between that one and the bride. I end up voting for the bride because it was truly spontaneous.

For our voting efforts we are rewarded with AFV t-shirts. I didn’t think to ask when the episode would air, so I had to keep tabs with what was going on via the AFV website. The episode aired in December before the show went on hiatus. As it turns out Laser pointer Grandma won the $100,000!! The winner is also from a town in Georgia not too far from us. I think a little piece of that $100K is in order since we are fellow Georgians and DD’s vote helped in the win, don’t you? LOL! Seriously, laser pointer grandma, if you aren’t interested in the DVC membership, should you win it, we’ll be happy to take it off your hands.

It was a neat thing to do. It is things like this that keep me coming back to Disney time after time. You just never know what (or who) you might see on a Disney vacation. T-shirts in hand we head off for the big must do of this trip to HS…meeting Phineas and Ferb!

We love some Phineas and Ferb in this house! Needless to say meeting the duo was high on the list. Luckily their M&G area was near the theater where we had just participated in the AFV voting. We headed over there, and the boys were between sets. We joined the line, which was long, but not crazy, backed up to the Muppet fountain long. A few minutes after we joined the line, music begins blarring announcing that P&F were on their way to the “set”. The set up for this meet and greet is that P&F are shooting their movie, and all of us in line are extras. The “director” makes his appearance, and then finally P&F make their big entrance. As folks begin go meet the boys, the director begins to recruit those in the line to be “extras” in the movie. The recruiting includes adults, and frankly they were the most entertaining. They have those pulled in to be extras do things to various songs from the show. The director also throws out some trivia questions for the audience to answer. It was a great, great experience. We waited in line for 10-15 minutes, but there was so much else going on, you didn’t notice it.

Much to DD’s chagrin she was not chosen to do anything, but there’s always next time. We get up to the boys, and I snap a few photos.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7143/6773896063_393ddf4fc7.jpg

Then as they pose for the “big” picture, my camera lets me know my memory card is full. No more pictures for me! I was so upset! Luckily there was a photopass photog there, but sadly I never even ordered anything. I didn’t even register the card. I completely forgot that the P&F picture was on the card. Grrr… OH, well, there’s always next time, right.

We leave the boys, and I frantically start deleting pictures that have long since been transferred to the computer from the card. On the way out, DD says she must, must, must get a picture with Ducky Mo Mo. She LOVES Ducky Mo Mo! So here they are. I don’t think she was ever this excited to meet Donald.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7006/6773902937_99968ca80c.jpg

After the meet and greet we go catch the Muppets in 3D. I’m proud of myself b/c I manage to actually stay awake and see the show this time. The first time we saw it I fell asleep about five minutes in. It was a deadly combination of a hot, humid day, a technical delay and glorious A/C. I didn’t stand a chance.

After the muppets we decide it is time to head off and grab a bite. We’re not particular fans of anything in HS, so we take this opportunity to try something new..Beaches and Cream.

P&F is the best meet and greet in the place. I love the whole set up. There were many people who were there just to watch the show. Try and squeeze it in when you go in April. We probably won't go to DHS when we head down in a 12 days (woo hoo!), so it will be June before we can go back to meet the boys. Next time I'm getting MY picture with Ferb. I love Ferb.

DD and make our way over to the Friendship Boats for the trip over to Beaches and Cream. And don’t you know it, a boat is about to dock as we are nearing the dock area. I told you…good bus (or boat in this case) luck the entire trip! As we are making our way down the dock, who do we see getting off the boat, but this guy…

We were able to get seated pretty quickly. I’ve read people rave about the burgers there, so that is what I plan to get. DD gets a hot dog as there is nothing else there she cares to eat.

While we’re waiting the lights dim, and sirens begin to blare. Yes, someone has ordered the kitchen sink. Not familiar? let me enlighten you. This is a icy, sugary concoction of enormous proportions. Eight scoops of ice cream, every topping know to man, or at least all the ones they offer there, and if that weren’t enough, a whole, yes, a whole can of whip cream. CRAZY! They serve this thing in a “dish” shaped like a sink. Shocking I know. The menu says this thing serves 4 people. Umm…I’m not sure in what universe that serves just four people. The thing is huge. Now that I’m thinking about it maybe the menu said 4-6, but regardless the number served and the size of the “sundae” did not mesh. This thing is massive! The hubbub dies down, and our food arrives shortly thereafter. The burger was good, but honestly not that much better than what you get at the parks. Perhaps I had pumped it up a little to much in my mind. DD doesn’t care too much for her hot dog either, but that is not so much a reflection on the dog, as she only has lukewarm feelings about hot dogs in general.

Being that we are in an ice cream shop, it would be practically sinful to not get some sort of sweet, cold treat right? Well, unfortunately I cannot partake of such things, but DD is very excited by this part. She decides she would like to get the mud slide sundae. Sounds good. I don’t see anything of the non-ice cream variety that I’m interested in which is probably for the better anyway. Out comes the sundae…and Monday, and maybe even part of Tuesday. Man alive this thing was pretty darn big as well.

As you can see she got through about half of it. A valiant effort. She also got cold eating all that ice cream and had to put on the shirt we got from the AFV thing. She went outside to warm up while I paid, and then we headed on back to DHS.

While the burger didn’t live up to the hype in my mind, we did enjoy Beaches and Cream, and look forward to visiting again.

I wish I could eat the ice cream too!! Beaches and Cream is definitely on the intinerary for the June trip since we are staying at YC. I think a Kitchen Sink will be in order. I'll have to share a plate of the onion rings with someone. I like onion rings but Katie doesn't.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip over the weekend. The condo where I have my Groupon ended up booked up by the time I got around to switching my reservation. It wasn't that big of a deal, but I wasn't feeling too good about spending hotel money I hadn't planned on having to spend. Then my SIL ended up in the hospital for the third time in six weeks. Between the buyers remorse over the hotel, and then feeling that I should delay our departure by a day to help out with my nieces and nephew, I decided just to reschedule the whole thing. We would have only had two full park days (which would have been 10s), and it is just too much time in a car all there in a row when there isn't something new or special your going to do. It all worked out for the best anyway.

We head back over to DHS to enjoy the rest of the day. No celebrity sightings on the return trip. When we get back, the Animation Academy is destination one, and two, three and four..well you get it. My DD LOVES the Animation Academy. In fact, she’d just as soon stay there the whole day. We draw a couple of characters, and I notice that it is approaching the time is approaching for a showing of the Beauty and the Beast show. I LOVE this show. Belle is my fave princess, Beauty and the Beast is my fave Disney animated movie, and the only other show on property that beats this one is FOTLK. DD is more than content to stay and draw some more while I go watch the show. I tell her to just keep rotating through until I get back. No problem mom!

I head on over to the show, and get a seat toward the back of the theater. I’m sitting behind a family whose kids are all over the place, but once the show starts, they are mesmerized. Don’t you just love that! It is one of my favorite people watching aspects of WDW..seeing people get caught up in the magic. I remember those moments with my own DD. And we still have them, just over different things. Like last October, I did the free dining thing, and decided to try some restaurants that I normally wouldn’t because my DD is picky and I couldn’t justify the cost of a meal simply going to waste. We went to Citricos. I was super excited about that. They had a chicken dish so I figured there was shot DD would be okay. Well as it turned out, I was only lukewarm after the experience, but she loved it. It is exciting seeing her try new things, and really get caught up in a more “upscale” dining experience. In the spirit of full disclosure, most of her joy from the experience came from a lemon dessert. That thing looked amazing! Wish I could have had some.

But I digress, the show was spectacular as always, and I head back to the Animation Academy to meet up with DD. She is in the waiting area, and they are about to seat the next class. We decide to go ahead and do that class. At this point my DD tells me I am going to be upset because I have missed out on drawing Pascal. Oh snap! No-I-di’nt miss out on Pascal. Ooo I am steamed! Oh well, maybe we’ll get to do something cool like Buzz or I’ll get another shot at Tink. My last one was horrible!

Well we end up drawing Jack Skellington. Thinking it should be easy? Well, it wasn’t. Not for me anyway. My poor Jack was horrible. All out of proportion. Nose wrong, smile wrong, bow horrible. After that debacle, I need to feel better about my abilities so we go another round in the class. And boy, oh boy, am I glad we went back through because we got to draw Dug! Here are the new pieces of artwork we will be adding to our gallery.

So we headed on over to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. There are about ten minutes before the next show so we wait it out in the little lobby area. We enter the theater and grab our seats and wait for the show to begin. The music begins and then scenes from the movie begin to flash on the screen in front of us. I begin to think this is going to go the way of the Chronicles of Narnia “attraction.” Well at least if it does, I can quietly sing along to the songs. Then we hear the strains of Under the Sea begin. The stage is filled with puppets acting out the song. Think the Finding Nemo show, but dark so you don’t see the puppeteers. It was really, really cool! Way better than the Nemo show. This thing might not be so bad after all! Unfortunately that is where the coolness pretty much ended. Not that the rest of the show was horrible, but it was kind of a let down after the very cool puppetry. I really did like the rain effects, and or course the bubbles at the end. I am glad we saw it, but I don’t think it will be on our “every trip must do” list.

We leave Ariel and her friends, and head on over to TSM to use our FP we grabbed earlier in the day. I do better, but not by much. My honor has not been restored. Sigh. We do some more Star Tours, GMR and watch some of the Citizen of Hollywood performances, and watch a little bit of the AI final show on the big screen outside its theater. We cap off the night by going to see Fantasmic! We’ve only seen it once- three years ago. We weren’t particularly impressed. Especially since we followed the directions on the Times Guide and showed up to the theater 45 minutes in advance of the show. We could have walked in at show time and found a seat. Live and learn.

I’m really hoping we enjoy it more this time. The first time we went to see it, I had of course wanted to see it, but a co-worker of mine insisted that I MUST see it. He swore up and down it was the best night time show there. I figured, dang it must be awesome if he thinks it is better than Wishes. We were let down. Not that the show is horrible, but it ain’t Wishes..or Illuminations for that matter. So I’m hoping the passage of time and the fact I don’t have all this hype building the show up, will lead me to enjoy the show far more. We head over to the theater about 15 minutes before the show starts and get a seat in the second to the last section on the right side of the theater. The two kids in front of us are bouncing off the walls. Clearly tired and desperately trying to stay awake. I think, well if nothing else, I will enjoy their response to the spectacle. The hour approaches and the show doesn’t start. The wave breaks out in the theater, and makes numerous passes through the stadium. The people on the left side of the stadium are tickled no end at this, but eventually have to give up on their entertainment as the rest of us have grown weary of throwing our hands up and going “woo”.

Finally the show kicks off. I do love the music when Mickey appears. It was a ringtone on my old phone. Anyway, I sit there trying to get it to it, and I just can’t. It is cute and all, and I do really like the water screens, but for me it is just missing something. I can’t put my finger on what it is. I just don’t get all misty, and Disney-ey when I watch this one. The kids in front of us clearly feel the same way, as they were in to the show for about five minutes and then were bored. The big boat o’ characters appears, the show ends and now we inch our way out of the stadium.

We finally break free of the crowd once we leave the stadium, and head out to Sunset Blvd. At one of those little carts of light up and glowing fun, DD notices these horrible 80s era glasses with the shade slats that light up. She must have them and is willing to spend her own money for them. Like many things making a re-appearance from the 80s, these glasses really should have stayed there. Oh well, if she wants to spend her money, that’s fine. We find a green pair that matches what she is wearing to MNSHHP, and she purchases them and wears them proudly out of the park. As we depart a get a few pictures on Sunset Blvd.

We exit the park and head back to our lodge. DD is excited because tomorrow she gets to sleep in! Yes, I’m going to let her have a morning off, and actually we will be doing something the next day we’ve NEVER done. We are going to spend the entire day at the resort doing all the activities there, swimming, going to the campfire and maybe the movie. Wonders will never cease.

Your Dug looks really good. I love that they have so many different characters for you to draw. We only did Pluto that one time. I am kind of luke warm to Fantasmic as well. It was OK and had some good effects, but not a must do.

But .... we can still see tyou for a little while, right ?? Let me know your plans for Friday, April 6 and the following Saturday. The kids would so love to see your DD.

If we are there that Friday, I'll definitely let you know what we are planning to do. Right we are going to be there March 30 - April 3, but I really need to look at what sort of hotel deal I can find off-site. With everything that has been going on with my SIL (she went back in the hospital on Wed.) I just haven't had time to dig around for alternate accomodations.

Okay, so I have been away way too long. My SIL has had some pretty serious health problems pretty much since the beginning of the year. After my last update it got bad again, and I have been busy helping with my nieces and nephews, and since I work from home, I have been getting her too and from doctors and hospitals. Happily, they seem to have gotten to the root of the problem and she is on the way to recovery. So, an other update is coming in the next couple of days.

Okay, now that you've picked yourself up off the floor, I have something exciting from my most recent trip (March 29- April 3) to share.

My daughter was in the MM&Y show this past Sunday!!!!!!!

I was so excited! It was the only photopass experience we had during our day a MK, and it got picked for the show. Disney is now officially forgiven for not putting the picture of my DD and niece w/ Cinderella that I sent to the Memories website in the show.

As soon as I get the picture from Photopass I'll share it here.

So, I have to apologize up front, this will be a picture-less chapter. For reasons that escape me, it never dawned on me to carry my camera around on this day. However, it did mean that I was fully “in” which I prefer.

As I mentioned, it was all good news for DD since today was a resort day. This is something we’ve never done before. I don’t even really like making time for swimming because I figure we have access to a pool at home, so why do something we can do at home. However, DD loves it, and after learning the hard way to take a break when the weather is boiling hot, we’ll make some pool time if the weather calls for it.

DD was looking forward to sleeping in, but she wouldn’t be sleeping in too long. We looked at the AKL activity schedule the night before and activities start pretty early. We get up and head to the Mara for some breakfast. Being the adventurous sort, I go for the African breakfast. Hm.. not a winner. I have discovered, that while I like eggs and while I like tomato, I am not a big fan of the two mixed together. There was also a babootie, and like a Boma, I was not a fan.

We finished breakfast headed and headed back to the room to get ready for our first activity, medallion rubbing. If I’m being honest, this was probably my favorite activity of the day. We meet up with a CM in the lobby of the resort. The resort has several large metal medallions in the floor. We start at the one right at the entrance, and using crayons, we rub over the various images of the medallion.

We next went on to do some pin trading, animal observing and yum, yum, cookie decorating! This was much fun. We were able to pick an animal shaped cookie and use various colors of frosting and some sprinkles to decorate our cookie. I have to say, I am pretty happy I do not have a picture of my cookie. It was pretty hideous!

We eventually took a pool break. As we got to the pool area Disney trivia had just kicked off. Well, needless to say we jumped on that. We missed the first question, but that’s okay. We got in on the second question and we were off. It was about 20 questions. Some of the questions were super easy. The kind of question any kid who had seen the movie about which the question was asked could get. Others were pretty hard..clearly geared toward the parent helpers, or serious Disney buffs. Everyone turned in their answer sheets, and while a couple of CMs tallied the scores, another read out all the answers. We’re feeling pretty good b/c we got all but one question we answered right. And it was an easy one at that. It is too embarrassing to share…they’ll make me turn in my DISboard I.D. Oh okay, I’ll tell you….the question was who was Mike and Sully’s nemesis in Monster’s inc. Well, we answered the question, after some debate, the wrong name. I don’t remember what we said, but it was the name of another Disney different character, or maybe a character from the laugh floor. I want to say we said Russell, but I’m not sure. Anyway, we totally missed the ball on Randall. Anyway, the CMs have the score and are going to announce the winner. The young lady who is to announce the winner says the winning team got 18 right, and starts to giggle. As she’s doing so she says, “I don’t think I can say this team name.” When she said that, I knew it was us. However, I have to say, her tone made it seem as if we had a “blue” name rather than one she just found ridiculous. She asks another CM to announce the winner, and he says “the winners are the Hillbilly Vampires.” I know what you’re thinking,”So this is where the ‘Hillbilly bone’ in the title comes from.” Well actually it doesn’t. That is later. In fact I didn’t even think about our trivia team name when I came up with my sad little title. Hillbilly Vampires, is actually our old team trivia name. It was inspired by a poem my DD’s Girl Scout leader’s husband wrote. I happened to have read the poem before we played our first team trivia game. We were struggling for a name, I suggested Hillbilly Vampire, and the rest is well…the rest.

But back to the real story…. Happily my DD bounces up to collect our prize…some sort of light up, furry, rubber ball thing. It’s name was Igor..my nephew killed it months later. So, DD played some more games before heading to the pool. We hung out for a couple of hours and headed back in to get cleaned up for dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express, one of our favorite CS places. Being that sunset was approaching I snapped a ton of pictures of the animals, and will put them all in the next post.

Before heading out to DTD for the evening we made one more trip down to the pool for the marshmallow roasting. There was a bit of a breeze so you had to dodge the smoke that evening, but it was fun thing to do.

Overall, it was a great day just hanging out at the resort. Imagine that- you can have fun at Disney without spending practically every second in a park. Wonders will never cease.

My DD loved the games at the pool !! Your animal pictures are so good. I just love the giraffes !! They are my favorite !! I take the cruddiest photos, but it is fun to post them anyway. We meant to do the pin trading, but never got around to it. Since we were at Kidani and most of the activities were at Jambo, we didn't do much at the resort. Plus, we had only four days.

AKL is definitely a place you could spend a week and never see the inside of the park and still have plenty to do. Hard to squeeze parks and lots of resort time in just four days. I can't wait to hear more about the time you spent at Kidani. We never ventrued over there.

I'm a big giraffe fan after staying at AKL. I liked them before of course, but just being able to sit and watch them for hours...I just love them now..and zebras. When we went on the safari a couple of weeks ago, the giraffes were all in the road causing traffic jams. It was great. One crossed the road right in front of us. We were doing a slow roll because of it, and we got to just coast along and watch her lope along to get some more breakfast. It was great!
