I have been lucky enough for my waitlist to come through for a value studio in Jambo House for my trip next month. :cool1:

I've tried searching on the boards but can find no mention as to whether the rooms have a safe. As it is normally in the closet and the majority of the value rooms do not seem to have one, I wondered if the rooms have one at all and, if so, where it is located?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

yes all DVC units have a safe. In a studio its proably in a closet.

Edited to add, I just checked dvcnews.com - room inventory - and studios in both Jambo and K...are listed as having an electronic safe.

Great, thanks for your response. Just wanted to check as without a closet, I couldn't picture where it would be! If it is an electronic safe like they have at Kidani I guess they could put it into the wardrobe.

Thanks for your help.

We DISers take all kinds of strange photos, don't we? This is the safe in my value studio last year. I put a plastic utensil in there to give perspective on size-

Why are the safes so darn small at the DVC resorts? The one at BCV was tiny too. Couldnt fit a purse in it.

Using the in room safe is definately better than leaving something on the table and it will prevent a quick opportunity theft but keep in mind that that they aren't really all that secure.

google "how to open a hotel room safe" for an eye-opening variety of easy methods.

Use this reality to guage your level risk tolerance. I would never leave something very valuable or irreplaceable in there. Credit Cards and cell phone, sure. Wife's wedding ring, no way.

I did not know the rooms do not have closets. Where do you hang your clothes?

I did not know the rooms do not have closets. Where do you hang your clothes? They have a free standing wardrobe. Even though it is quite large, only one side has hanging space. The other half is used for the vacuum cleaner, ironing board, etc.

Thank you for the photo and helpful responses. At least there seems to be some confirmation that there is a safe in the value studios, whether it is dedicated and includes the closet or not.

I know that this doesn't keep things 100% secure, but in our travel insurance in the UK we are not covered unless we use the hotel safe for any valuable items. Not sure if the same applies to US tavel insurance.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply. I dont think I like the idea of no closet. I wonder why they did that!

Thanks for the reply. I dont think I like the idea of no closet. I wonder why they did that! The DVC rooms in Jambo House were created by converting existing hotel rooms into DVC villas. Those hotel rooms did originally have a large closet but when converting a hotel room into a DVC studio that space was used for the kitchenette. So why didn't they frame in a new closet? I'm guessing a combination of space constraints and because putting a wardrobe in the room was quicker and easier than building a new closet. But I agree, it's not a great solution, especially since only one side of the wardrobe can be used for clothes. That's not enough space for a couple let alone a family of four.

A few studios (mostly dedicated studios) do have a small utility closet that is used to store the vacuum cleaner and ironing board.

Remember, not all value studios are sans closet. My value studio recently had a closet. It was a lock-off, pool view, value studio. It was a split stay between there and BCV, and the closets at both locations seemed to be the same size and were in the same location (by the vanity). What I noticed was that the toilet area in BCV was larger, but my value studio had 2 sinks in the vanity area, while BCV's studio only had 1 sink.

I should have added that there is some hanging space in those closets as well. The Jambo studios that have closets are primarily dedicated studios since they can put a closet where the connecting door would have been. Not all dedicated studios have closets due to structural elements in the building. There are also some lockoff studios that have closets in some of the lockoffs where the connecting door is in the living area rather than the entryway.

Based on the floor plans the closets in the Jambo House studios are next to the kitchenette, across from the vanity rather than alongside the vanity as they are in BCV. As you mentioned, the Jambo studios kept the double sinks from the AKL hotel rooms so I suspect that the longer vanity prevented them from building a closet alongside the vanity area as they did in the studios in BCV, BWV, VWL and SSR.

In this floorplan of a Jambo 2BR lockoff with a studio with a closet, the studio is on the left. The closet is across from the vanity, in between the A/C unit and the kitchenette.

By comparison, here is the floorplan for a BCV 2BR lockoff. I missed those long studio closets when we stayed in a Jambo studio!
