~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, you read that right....THREE YEARS. :eek: Well, almost three years. The last time we set foot on Disney property was in December 2008. But not to worry...we've been busy. ;)
We decided that we wanted to take a year off from Disney. I had been twice in 2007 and three times in 2008, so, believe it or not, I was READY for a break. Yes, you actually CAN have enough of Disney World. :scared1: Well, at least temporarily anyway. We planned to return in December 2010. That is until I got a nice little surprise in January 2010....a surprise with blonde hair and blue eyes and a smile that lights up my heart by the name of Seth :love:, who made his debut in September 2010. So the December 2010 trip was out. After some discussion, we decided we'd make our return in October 2011. So that's the story of the three-year wait.
Now I will warn you before you read this: I LOVE DISNEY. I love Disney movies, I love the parks, I love the feeling you get when you're there, I love the music, I love the characters, I love the food and I love the general idea behind what it is that Disney World represents. I am, however, a realist. I'm not going to sugarcoat everything and tell you that Seth's first trip to my favorite place was all smiles and cotton candy. There was crying, there was arguing, there was sweating and there were (gasp!) cancelled ADRs....lots of 'em! But for the most part we had a great trip and I can't wait to share it all with you. :flower3:
Now let's get to the details: the who, when, the where and so on...
The who:
Me! I'm Dawn, your guide to this enthralling trip. I'm a 35yo full-time legal assistant (former court reporter but I changed professions after I had a baby - I am keeping my license though in case I want to go back to it later on in life), part-time Disney travel agent and all-the-time mom and wife. :surfweb::laundy::earboy2:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07852.jpg
Then there's Ray, my hubby. Ray is a 39yo (will be 40 next month....hahahahahahahaaaahahah!!! :lmao:) full-time desktop administrator (also known as computer geek) and the best husband and daddy I could ever begin to dream of having. :lovestruc
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2596.jpg
Also joining us for the first few days of this trip is one of my best friends, Anna, and her son, Luke. Anna is a fitness trainer (can't you tell??) and wonderful mother and friend. She's one of the most genuinely sweet and caring people I've ever met. And a hoot to boot. (That rhymed!) Luke is her 7yo son and loves Star Wars, video games, soccer and was SUPER excited about coming to Disney World! :goodvibes
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07865.jpg
And last but certainly not least, my little man, the reason for this trip, Seth! :) Seth turned 13 months old during this trip. He loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Thomas the Train and any kind of music (which he dances to), his favorite word is "uh-oh", he loves Cheerios and Goldfish and he was learning to walk during this trip (he's actually started walking across the room now...we are in trouble!).
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07752.jpg
The when/where:
September 29, 2011-October 2, 2011 - All-Star Sports Resort
October 2, 2011-October 7, 2011 - The Villas at Wilderness Lodge
Now, let's get to the nitty gritty.....back with day 1 soon!
Oh, and thanks for coming along. I hope you enjoy the ride. :woohoo:
Dawn this makes me so happy. I cannot believe it has been three years, and I am so excited to see how Seth's first trip went. I also think that three years is a long time to plan that perfect trip, and that makes for the real moments, those that no one even a disney loving person can plan for and avoid.
And sweet Seth...he is just so darn cute.... I see him and think how did my babies all get so big!
Glad to see that you made it home safely.:goodvibes I've been checking here almost daily for your TR and of course the one day I didn't check is the one you start :lmao: Oh well, I'm here now. I have to balance my Dis life with being a full time student at UNLV and working full time, so I'll try to stay on top of checking in with the progress. I love reading your reports, they are definitely a nice escape from writing research papers and reading textbooks. :teacher:
Oh, and a bit of exciting news only my Dis friends seem to understand: In september my husband and I took a long weekend to Disneyland to celebrate our fourth anniversary and bought DVC. We had been thinking about it since we first toured them on our honeymoon in DW, and since we just finished building our house in June, we didn't have anything holding us back anymore. We are now proud owners at AKV :woohoo: Gonna start planning our first trip home after this semester is over. :cheer2:
I hope so too! Thanks for all your help with this trip! :goodvibes
She was just over 3 months old on her first trip. I am happy to help with any tips I can for anyone.
I knew it was something like that. You are a brave woman!
Hopefully the good and not the bad or the ugly. :rotfl2:
The good and bad part about this trip is that you will never have another one like it.
Very true! And of course you weren't part of the bad or the ugly. Now Batman....that's a different story. :lmao:
I'm here! Can't wait to hear about Seth's first trip!
:thumbsup2
I have been following your TR's for a while now, can't wait to hear how your trip went!
:goodvibes
Glad to see that you made it home safely.:goodvibes I've been checking here almost daily for your TR and of course the one day I didn't check is the one you start :lmao: Oh well, I'm here now. I have to balance my Dis life with being a full time student at UNLV and working full time, so I'll try to stay on top of checking in with the progress. I love reading your reports, they are definitely a nice escape from writing research papers and reading textbooks. :teacher:
Oh, and a bit of exciting news only my Dis friends seem to understand: In september my husband and I took a long weekend to Disneyland to celebrate our fourth anniversary and bought DVC. We had been thinking about it since we first toured them on our honeymoon in DW, and since we just finished building our house in June, we didn't have anything holding us back anymore. We are now proud owners at AKV :woohoo: Gonna start planning our first trip home after this semester is over. :cheer2:
Wow...congrats on DVC! I hope to buy one day but it will be awhile...we need to pay off some debt first. Thanks for reading! ;)
So the tale of our return to Disney World after an almost-three-year wait begins on Thursday, September 29th. Anna and I both worked that day, getting off early and we left my office around 3:00 that afternoon. I had to stop by Seth's school to pick him up (he goes to school on Thursdays and Fridays) and then we were off! Ray stayed behind for an extra day b/c he could only get the next week off, so he was planning on leaving the next day after work.
I was preparing myself for a VERY long trip - having a 13mo and a 7yo in the car together is sometimes not so fun. Of course Seth is going to cry at times, especially when he's sleepy and tired of being in his car seat. And Luke, although usually so awesome with Seth, sometimes doesn't understand, being 7 years old. But I was surprised that we had a decent trip with very few melt-downs from Seth and Luke.
We stopped just south of Macon for dinner at a little Mexican restaurant. I wanted to give the boys a good break from the car and let Seth stretch his legs a bit.
We were lucky enough to be serenaded by the mariachi band there....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2237.jpg
And of course I have video! Listen to the first song they played....fitting, huh? And they had no idea where we were going!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/th_IMG_2238.jpg (http://s285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/?action=view&current=IMG_2238.mp4)
We had our iPad set up in a case on the back of the passenger seat so Seth could watch movies....well, as much as a 13mo watches movies! But it keeps him entertained for the most part!
Stopping for gas and a stretch break!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2243.jpg
We saw this sign around 9:30....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2245.jpg
Seth slept from about that time until we hit the first toll once we got on the Western Beltway. That woke him up and he was pretty whiney for the next 15 minutes until we got there. Thankfully that road is not very long before you get to Disney World!
We saw this glorious sight around 12:30am....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2247.jpg
Oh, how I've missed you!!!!!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2249.jpg
We made our way to All-Star Sports (I'd never stayed at the All Stars before but we found them pretty easily) and I went to check in. I asked for a luggage cart and the CM told me that bell services keeps those locked up and that they were closed right then. Huh? Great....do you know how much stuff we have to carry to our room, along with two very tired boys, at 1:00am???? That was one thing that really ticked me off. Talk about inconvenience. :headache:
I also had a box that I had shipped to myself full of supplies for Seth (it's truly shocking how such a little person requires so much stuff!) and asked about that. She said I could call bell services at 8:00 the next morning and they would deliver it to my room.
On the bright side we had gotten adjoining rooms, which I had requested, and we had a great room location - on the bottom floor (hello, turbo toilets!) in the Surf's Up section near the parking lot and just around the corner from the pool. :thumbsup2
Silly (and tired) me didn't take any pictures of the hotel when we got there, but we got some later which I will post when the time comes. And I didn't really take any pictures of the room, either. It was late....that's my excuse. :rolleyes1
I did get this that was laying on our bed when we arrived....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2250.jpg
I stayed with the boys and unpacked things while poor Anna got to unload the car. Did I mention how much I love her?
Seth exploring the room....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2251.jpg
Two tired little boys who were apparently too tired to sleep!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2255.jpg
We finally got in bed around 1:45am. I let Seth sleep the next morning until he woke up, which was around 7:40, VERY late for him. But I was fine with that.
At 8:00 on the dot I called bell services and was transferred several times, but then finally talked to someone who located the box in the "system" and said they'd have it delivered to my room. We proceeded to get ready for our day and to go get breakfast at the food court. Well, 8:45 rolls around and we are all ready to go and....no box. I needed that box - it had things in it that I had to have for the parks. So I waited until 9:00 and called again. The man I spoke with this time said that he was in charge of bell services and no one had told him about delivering any box, that if one would be delivered it would HAVE to go through him. For serious? Are you joking? So THE MAN finally located the box and they FINALLY delivered it. Geez. Late start anyone??? :mad:
As soon as that was over we headed for the food court for breakfast.
This was basically what we saw on our very short walk over....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3592.jpg
The food court was of course a madhouse but we work well together - I grabbed a table and sat with the boys while Anna got all our food. Seth had oatmeal and fruit which I had brought myself and just needed to warm up, so Luke was a good babysitter for 2 minutes and watched him while I did that.
My little man waiting on breakfast.....
I forgot to mention, we were on the DDP during this portion of the trip. I had booked the rooms with the free dining deal awhile back. Once we get to VWL, we were no longer on the DDP.
Breakfast there was good as we were all starving. :thumbsup2
Luke being a 7yo boy!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07754.jpg
So after breakfast we headed to the car and drove over to Animal Kingdom. I can't remember for sure but I think we got there around 10:15 or so. This was my first experience with getting a stroller on a tram. :eek: Oy! Luckily Anna is no prissy girl and she was able to heave it up on the row in front of us while I held Seth. I'm going to invent a modification to the tram that allows people to maneuver their strollers easier and make millions. :idea:
While waiting at the bag check I realized we had left my camera in the car....my nice Sony SLR camera that I had bought with pictures of the Pangani Forest Trail dancing in my head....:scared1: :sad1: Anna offered to go back and get it but I was like, "No, we are already running so far behind, let's just go in." We both had our iPhone cameras so those would have to do.
Inside the park....at last!
(By the way, I have Photopass pictures and will post those once I get the CD, which shouldn't be very long.)
About 30 seconds after I took that last picture I looked down to see this....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2262.jpg
We headed for Africa to take a safari ride. The wait was 30 minutes but with Seth asleep we decided to get FPs and just walk the Pangani Forest Trail, one of my favorites!
I didn't take many pictures but here are a few that turned out good...
The trouble you had were some of the small issues I had with ASSp.
The food court closes and hour earlier 11pm and no luggage services at 1 am?
At POP I was able to get into luggage services at some really odd hour, I just needed to knock on the door. :confused3
I am glad you were able to juggle all the stuff with both kids. It really is a process and you do get better each time. By the time you have it perfected, they grow out of it, and the process changes. :laughing:
As for the room I have pictures of my room on my TR and well I suspect it looks a lot like yours. :lmao:
The guy with luggage services acted like he knew about ALL packages that have EVER came through the All Star resorts. He was almost offended that I was questioning him about it and he hadn't been told. And the luggage cart thing makes no sense to me. I thought about walking with the stroller but Anna kept telling me she could manage it so I let her try. I ended up walking back to the car by myself and believe me, I walked the whole way. I wasn't about to attempt it without help!
ASSp wasn't bad at all - I liked it more than I thought I would. But the package and the lack of help with luggage were definitely negative points. So when I last left you we had just finished the Pangani Forest Trail and Seth was still snoozin. A quick bathroom break for everyone, during which Seth woke up, and we headed for the safari to use our FPs. Here it comes!
Again, no SLR camera so all these safari pics were taken with either my cell phone or Anna's (and may not be in order). :rolleyes:
We saw a decent amount of animals....most were out, but no lions. And I think Seth noticed some of the closer ones, like the giraffes. He seemed to enjoy it.
Luke getting a cold drink - see that lady in the left corner? She was a Photopass photographer and ended up getting some shots of us around the jeep and in front of a nearby waterfall that I'll post later.
It was a nice, air-conditioned break.
After that we headed to see the Festival of the Lion King. It had been awhile since I saw this one and Anna, too, plus I knew Seth would enjoy it.
Waiting for the show to start....
Seth loved the show....he just watched everything and laughed and pointed a few times. Right before the end (during the part where they bring the kids out, I think) he started getting antsy and crying, so I took him outside. I refuse to be one of those parents who disturbs everyone around them b/c their kid is crying. If he's not enjoying himself, we leave....not just for him but for the people around us too!
Anna and Luke caught up with me over after the show in the stroller parking area and we headed towards Pizzafari for lunch. Ray had called me during the show and it was too loud in there to answer, so I called him back....
Ray: Hey, what are you guys doing?
Me: Oh, just got done with Festival of the Lion King. I had to take Seth out a few minutes before it was over b/c he was crying.
Ray: Well, I've got 2 surprises for you.
Me: Okay....
Ray: First...I'm almost in Florida! (He wasn't supposed to leave until after work at 5:00 and it was around 1:30 at this point.)
Me: Are you serious???? That's awesome! Yay! I love your boss!
Ray: Yep.
Me: Okay, so what's the other surprise?
Ray: I got a speeding ticket.
:eek:
Me: Well, it happens. (I'm thinking I was nice about it due to a mixture of the heat and my Disney high.)
So that nice little "surprise" cost us $196. So nice to come home from vacation and shell out that money! :mad:
So back to Disney....
We got a table in at Pizzafari, then Anna and decided we wanted BBQ instead. But we decided just to stay there to eat instead of trudging all the way over to Flame Tree since we had the boys settled. Luke watched Seth while I went up to order Luke a pizza, and Anna walked over to Flame Tree and got us a BBQ sandwich meal to split. It was good and hit the spot! I didn't take any food pics....shame on me! I'm usually very good about it. But I guess I was just tired. Anna took these during the meal though....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3672.jpg
After we had refueled, we headed for Dinoland and Triceratop Spin. Luke and Anna....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2317.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2319.jpg
Seth loved it! He just smiled and let the breeze blow what little hair he has! :laughing:
Anna and I had planned on taking turns on Expedition Everest. She knew Luke wasn't ready for that yet and of course Seth couldn't ride. So we headed over to the Bone Yard so the boys could play. Anna insisted I go first (again, love her) and she'd stay with the boys. So I fast-walked over to EE and headed for the single rider line. Well, guess what? I see a sign that says the single rider line was closed. Um....what?? Needless to say, I was NOT happy about this. I asked the FP CM about it and she said it was closed all day. The standby was 20 minutes. I didn't want to make Anna and the boys wait that long. I decided to get in line and give it 10 minutes - we all know those standby times are not always accurate. If it waited longer than 10 minutes, I'd get out of line and head back to Dinoland. I texted Anna and told her what was going on.
Wouldn't ya know it....right at 10 minutes I get into the loading room. And guess what? When I tell the queue nazi that I'm a single rider, she puts me in the line for front row....score!!!! :thumbsup2
I took these during the ride....
Meanwhile back at the boneyard....
Anna, Luke and Seth ended up going over to the dig yard to play and Anna texted me that Seth LOVED it!
By the time I got back to the dig yard, it was around 3:30. I told Anna that the parade was going to start soon, that I'd take the boys and get a spot and she could ride EE, then catch up with us. But she said she'd rather watch the parade with Luke. And she actually hung back with Luke at the Bone Yard b/c he was having so much fun, so Seth and I went to get a spot for the parade. We got a spot near Flame Tree. Seth trying on my sunglasses....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2328.jpg
Right before the parade started Seth started melting down. It was hot, he was tired (so was I). Once Anna met up with us I tried to walk around with him a little bit and it would work for a few minutes, but he kept crying. So I decided it was time to head out, at least for us. I told Anna to stay and enjoy the parade, then do It's Tough to be a Bug (I knew Luke would love it) and then take the bus to AKL for our dinner at Boma. Seth and I would go ahead to the car and head that way and I'd give him a break from the park.
So we headed for the car. I decided to walk the entire way b/c I wasn't about to try the tram with a stroller, a baby and a backpack all by myself. It was a long walk but I managed and Seth actually fell asleep during the walk anyway!
Here are some of Anna's parade pics....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3692.jpg
Seth was so tired he slept through me taking him out of the stroller and into his car seat, and then out of his car seat and back into the stroller at AKL! Poor guy. We had a 4:30ish reservation at Boma where I was meeting up with Erica (VandyFan10) and Will! :woohoo:
When I got there to check in Erica was sitting in the lobby. Yay...so happy to see her! :hug:
Here's Will (who is 5 months older than Seth and is also a WL wishing fountain baby) and Seth at dinner....
Boma....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07759.jpg
The buffet from our table....I didn't mean to get Erica coming back with her food but I did!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07760.jpg
My first plates....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07761.jpg
Various salads, eggplant salad, artichoke salad and creamy corn and chicken soup. The artichoke salad and the soup were awesome.
Somebody woke up!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07762.jpg
He was very fussy the rest of the meal, wanting me to hold him. Again, Anna came to the rescue and helped me out a lot. He had just had a big day! He's normally a very happy little guy but he was just spent.
Seth, me, Will and Erica...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07763.jpg
Oh, you can see my drink there. It's the one with the cherries. I forgot to get a picture of it. I don't remember the name but it had bourbon and some kind of juice in it with cherries. Like I said, I was tired. But it was good!
My second plate....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07765.jpg
Corn puree, couscous, salmon, rice, sweet potatoes, prime rib with BBQ sauce. Everything was yummy!
My dessert plate...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07767.jpg
Zebra dome, bread pudding, various pastries. I love the zebra domes. Everything else was great, too. I was disappointed they didn't have upsidedown pineapple cheesecake but you can't win them all!
After our dinner and some chatting, Erica headed out and Anna and I decided to walk back behind the pool to see some of the animals.
This is when Seth's allergies kicked in....look at his eye! It was like this off and on the entire trip. :sad2:
Picture of the lobby as we were leaving....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07775.jpg
Ray called me as we were walking about and he was almost there, like 5 minutes away. So I told him to go to the hotel, that we were leaving AKL and I had to go by WWoS to pick up my 5K packet for the next day.
We headed over to WWoS and parked up front so I could run in and get the packet. It was around 7:00ish and I wanted to get Seth in bed by 8:00 if I could, and me shortly after since I had a big day tomorrow. Well, by the time I got to where you pick up your packet, I thought I had already done the 5K....geez! Talk about a long walk. My goodness! Oh, well....at least the zebra domes didn't stay on my thighs too long! :lmao:
Anna got a pic of me walking back to the car.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07777.jpg
When I noticed her taking my picture, I looked at her like, what are you doing??? She said, "It's your first 5K...it's a big deal! Now strut!" So here's my version of strutting...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07778.jpg
We got back to the hotel and met up with Ray and unloaded his car (he had even more Seth stuff!) and then Luke and Anna headed back to WWoS for the fitness expo she was dying to check out. Ray, Seth and myself headed to the room for an early night - we were all tired!
We were asleep but Anna told me the next day that they played a movie that night at the pool, Tangled, and that they stayed out there for a little while to watch. She said it was really cute!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3696.jpg
So there you have it, our first full day at Disney World!
Next....my first ever 5K! :tiptoe: (<----that's me running in slow motion.)
Dawn, is your hair naturally curly? Do you flat iron it? I really like it both ways! :) Mine will not stay straight in FL, it frizzes right up and then is really curly.
It looks like both boys were having fun digging! :) Seth is too cute in his Mickey shirt.
Ray should have asked you if you wanted the good surprise or the bad surprise first. ;) That's a spendy ticket. Ouch!
Boma looks yummy. It's on my next-trip list! :thumbsup2
And I have to say that Anna sounds like a fantastic friend. :goodvibes
You sure did have a full day Friday. I didn't even realize Tangled was playing I would have sat by the pool on Friday night. :confused3
I think you did great with having Seth and being able to change gears and figure out fast how to handle the situation.
I know you told me Ray came down early but I didn't realize he missed you that much to speed and get a ticket. :laughing: Ouch on the cost of the ticket.
Fun beginning to your WDW trip. Luke has gotten so tall, all grown up at 7 y/o. That was our first day of our trip, it was so hot that day. DHS was more manageable, then we went to AK from 3-close. Wow, what a hot hot park. We skipped FOLK due to the heat, and opted for Nemo show instead.
Seth looks like he was having fun, too bad about his allergies though. Haven't been with small children in so long, but the baby care centers look like a great place to chill and refresh. Did you ever find them to be busy? It just looks relaxing.
WWOS is so large, I was there on Saturday 10/1 to pick up our gift cards for the Finish Line party at EPCOT. Luckily it was not so hot on Saturday, but there was not great instruction on where to pick up the gift cards. I walked to the expo, down the stairs to find out I needed to go to the Team Store outside the expo. I walked half way back to the car, to the Team Store to be told I needed to go to the Team store at the stadium. Which was across from the Expo hall. Whew, I was running out of time quick, and definitely out of breath. I was picking up 10.00 gift cards for the 6 of us in our group, otherwise I might have headed right back to the car! Not the best memory of the trip for sure.:confused:
I'm so impressed at how well Seth did! He was such a trooper through a long and tiring day!
I'm lovin' the 5k strut ;):laughing:
I'm shocked Anna and Luke were up late...I think I would have passed out on one of the lounge chairs during the movie :laughing:
OMG the speeding ticket phone call...Chris and I have been together for 4 1/2 years and I've gotten THREE of those! Not a fun thing to come home to pay after vacation! :(
Iím so glad I checked in and saw your TR. Iíve loved your others. Not sure if you remember me (have been a little absent lately), but I had Ellie I think a day before Will was born. I also live in Murfreesboro, so have hoped one day we could meet someday (I have met Memom and Jill and family).
Seth is a cutie. He has so many teeth. Ellie didnít get her first tooth until 14 months. She now has 11 at 18 months. We took her at 11 months (met a bunch of the TR regulars at the Big Small World meet) and we are going Feb 2012 and she will be 6 weeks shy of her 2nd birthday. Weíve got her first haircut planned at the barbershop.
Where is the AK Baby Center? Iíve only used the MK one, but need to use the ones at the other parks more.
Canít wait to follow along!!!!
Seth is such a Gerber baby! He is just the picture of what an American baby boy looks like! I love it! So sad his lil allergies were flaring up. That's gotta be the worst since there's not much you can do for him. Ray's phone call is awesome. I probably would have been like, Oh, well, on with the fun and forget it happened until I get home. :rolleyes1 Can't to hear what comes next!
Don't know how I missed this, but I did :confused3
All caught up now, staying after school (work) so I don't have to work tomorrow. We're off the next 3 Fridays :woohoo: I do love working for the school board.
We took 3 small kiddos on our Sept. trip. A one year old, a two year old and a three year old. It was fun, but definately a different kind of trip ;) Just all the "stuff" you have to carry around is a little overwhelming!
I can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip!!
Hi! Just joining in. Seth is adorable! It sounds like he did great on the drive down. I love the picture of him driving. My boys love to sit in the driver's seat, too.
Can't wait to hear about the 5K! We did the 5K this time, too, but I completely forgot to strut at packet pick up. :rotfl:
What a fun first day! :woohoo:
The picture of you & Seth together on the Safari is adorable!
The phone call between you & Ray totally sounds like something my husband would end up saying! :rotfl:
YAY for getting to ride EE! :yay:
Boma looks delicious!
And girl... your first 5k struttin' is hotttttt ;)
Just paid that ticket today...$208 with fees. Ouch! What we do for Disney World!
I think that picture of Seth zonked out at Boma is hilarious! Poor sleepy little man!
Glad your DH got in early but boo for the speeding ticket!
Good luck in your 5K!
I was just glad he slept in the stroller okay. I was afraid he wouldn't get sound sleep in there and it worked out fine!
Love the update! Yummy Boma, that dessert plate makes my mouth water.
Zebra domes....:love:
Dawn, is your hair naturally curly? Do you flat iron it? I really like it both ways! :) Mine will not stay straight in FL, it frizzes right up and then is really curly.
It looks like both boys were having fun digging! :) Seth is too cute in his Mickey shirt.
Ray should have asked you if you wanted the good surprise or the bad surprise first. ;) That's a spendy ticket. Ouch!
Boma looks yummy. It's on my next-trip list! :thumbsup2
And I have to say that Anna sounds like a fantastic friend. :goodvibes
Thanks! My hair is naturally wavy. If I don't blow dry it straight and put some product in it (usually curl enhancer) it will stay wavy. But I usually blow dry it out and then just touch up with a flat iron every day just to make it a bit smoother. I wore it that way that day b/c I knew it would be the hottest day we were there and I knew I'd have to wash it after the 5K anyway, so I figured it would be easier.
My Monkey !!!! :love:
You sure did have a full day Friday. I didn't even realize Tangled was playing I would have sat by the pool on Friday night. :confused3
I think you did great with having Seth and being able to change gears and figure out fast how to handle the situation.
I know you told me Ray came down early but I didn't realize he missed you that much to speed and get a ticket. :laughing: Ouch on the cost of the ticket.
I didn't either! Anna told me the next day. I think I was probably asleep by like 9:30 anyway! Yeah, that ticket ended up costing $208 with fees - just paid it today. Yuck!
Fun beginning to your WDW trip. Luke has gotten so tall, all grown up at 7 y/o. That was our first day of our trip, it was so hot that day. DHS was more manageable, then we went to AK from 3-close. Wow, what a hot hot park. We skipped FOLK due to the heat, and opted for Nemo show instead.
Seth looks like he was having fun, too bad about his allergies though. Haven't been with small children in so long, but the baby care centers look like a great place to chill and refresh. Did you ever find them to be busy? It just looks relaxing.
WWOS is so large, I was there on Saturday 10/1 to pick up our gift cards for the Finish Line party at EPCOT. Luckily it was not so hot on Saturday, but there was not great instruction on where to pick up the gift cards. I walked to the expo, down the stairs to find out I needed to go to the Team Store outside the expo. I walked half way back to the car, to the Team Store to be told I needed to go to the Team store at the stadium. Which was across from the Expo hall. Whew, I was running out of time quick, and definitely out of breath. I was picking up 10.00 gift cards for the 6 of us in our group, otherwise I might have headed right back to the car! Not the best memory of the trip for sure.:confused:
It was SO hot that day! Glad it was the hottest one of our trip. I loved the baby centers - never crowded at all. They were always a nice break from the crowds and chaos.
What a goose chase they had you on! I thought the fact that they had us going down to that indoor field to pick up our packets was crazy - such a long walk and down stairs and around corners, etc. etc. Ridiculous!
I can't believe how big Luke is!
Seth's poor eye!
oh....I'm guessing the guy is playing with an invisiable basketball...
I know...he's ginormous! Oh, and good guess! :lmao:
Woo Hoo to score front seat on EE.:thumbsup2
Ah Boma!! Love that place (yes the Zebra Domes). We are eating there in April.
Poor Seth with his allergies.:sad2:
Luckily they didn't seem to bother him too much - it just looks bad!
Love riding EE in the front...great pics! All things considered, Seth did great...he's such a smiley little guy!
I was very happy with his behavior the entire trip. Very few meltdowns!
Great start Dawn! I'm glad your car trip went okay, and the boys traveled well together!:thumbsup2 Looks like your hotel is a fun place to stay with little ones.
You actually got some good pics at AK with your phone. :goodvibes It's great how you and Anna took turns so that the kids were entertained and fed. Anna is a good friend!:lovestruc Seth did pretty well, and it's great that you took things at his pace.
Looking forward to your 5K day!:cool1:
Anna is the best! I knew she'd be great - she always does so well with Seth and doesn't get stressed out easily.
I'm here, Dawn! I am all caught up! What a fun start to your trip! I can't believe it's been three years since you were there. It doesn't really seem that long!
I know....I've been busy. :rotfl:
Hi, Dawn! :wave2:
I'm hoping to get lots of tips. the next time I go back I'll have my DGD with me and she will be between 1 1/2 and 2 yo. I've never taken a really small child let alone a toddler, so it will be interesting. :eek:
Read on.....;)
What a fantastic first day! You guys really got to do a lot and it seems like Seth did amazing lasting all the way until the early evening :thumbsup2 Oh and what an incredible friend you have in Anna :goodvibes
Yes, Anna rocks. And I was happy with what we got done with such a late start!
I am enjoying your report so much! I remember when we went and my son was that age..oh yes the meltdowns..it gets better ;)
By the way my 5 year old just told me that he knows you.He said Im telling you Mommy she was at my shool reading stories...lol..I guess you have a twin here in NY!
So my doppleganger is in NY, huh? Gives me an excuse to come up there for a visit soon! :laughing:
What a fun and FULL first day of your trip! Love the pictures of you and Seth on the safari! :goodvibes Glad you got to ride EE...and front row too! :thumbsup2 That's great that you got to meet up with Erica and Will...your dinner looked fantastic! Sorry to hear about the speeding ticket...kind of puts a damper on the beginning of your trip. But on the bright side, Ray did arrive early! :) Anna sounds like she is an amazing friend...that's so great that she was willing to help you out so much! Love your "strutting" pic! :laughing: Can't wait for more...
We love Boma - and especially when dining with old friends! :) Yep, Anna is always so great with Seth so I knew she'd be wonderful to have along for the ride. And as a bonus she's fun too! ;)
Seth is absolutely adorable. :cutie:
Thanks! :)
Seth seemed to enjoy his first Disney rides! I ate breakfast at Boma this trip so next trip I need to make sure I book a dinner there! Looks good! Sorry about Rays ticket. My 17 year old son wanted to drive home since my mom and I weren't feeling good. Well, I woke up and we were doing 100 mph down I-4 :scared1: Needless to say, I drove the rest of the way!
:scared1: Yeah, I'd be driving too. Teenage boy drivers....something for me to look forward to, huh?
Thanks!! :goodvibes I haven't posted on here much since I got pregnant, but she is due in January and was a complete surprise. I will check with Jill for tips as well!! Enjoying the report can't wait to hear more.
Hope you're feeling well! :goodvibes
i love that cell phone pics turn out pretty good now a days...makes it alot easier to capture moment swhen you forget your camera.
enjoyed the update.
how many naps a day does he normally take?
I know...I was happy with our cell pictures all things considered. As far as naps, it depends on who he's with and what we're doing! :laughing: He stays with Ray's mom on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and she lets him have 2 short naps per day. On Thursdays and Fridays he goes to school and they only have 1, but it's usually about 2 hours which is longer than the ones he has with Nana. And then on the weekends I usually try to give him 1 after lunch but if he's in the car and falls asleep I don't stop him.
I'm so impressed at how well Seth did! He was such a trooper through a long and tiring day!
I'm lovin' the 5k strut ;):laughing:
Anna is not made of what I'm made of - I figured that out a long time ago. And you know how kids are - they run on adrenaline at Disney World! Well, I usually do too. But being there with a 1yo is COMPLETELY different and I welcomed bedtime! Three speeding tickets? :scared1: Totally no fun!
What a great first day! Seth looked like he was having a ball in the boneyard.
I'm not sticking my finger in there! :rotfl: We did Seth's first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop and it was really cute! Great experience - I definitely recommend it. I'll have lots of pics and a video when I get to that day.
Jill already told you where the baby center was, but in case you didn't see her post it's near Pizzafari. It was very quiet and clean. I also used the one at MK and EPCOT and they were nice too. Never had to use the one at DHS.
Hey, guys! Finally had some time to do an update....thank goodness!
So on to day two of our vacation....the day I would do my first-ever 5K!
I woke up bright and early at 5:45 that morning. The 5K started at 7:00 - they told us to get there at 6:15 but I thought that was way early, so I was just aiming for 6:30 (you know....15 minutes makes a ton of difference. :lmao:). Seth and I were sleeping in one bed and Ray was in another (no way did all 3 of us fit on those small beds at ASSports). The plan was for me to get up when my alarm went off at 5:45, then Ray was gonna get in bed with Seth and I was gonna go over to Anna's room to get ready. She would already be up (she gets up wayyyyy early) and Luke sleeps like a rock so I wouldn't bother him. But if Seth heard me banging around our bathroom he'd want to get up. Well, the plan was working....I had gotten up, Ray had gotten in bed with Seth, I had gathered my stuff and was going towards our connecting door and then I kicked a toy of Seth's that started making a horrible racket and singing, "The Wheels on the Bus" REALLY loud. So much for the plan!
So Seth was up and he wasn't going back down. So I took him over to Anna's room with me and she entertained him while I got ready. I wanted Ray to go back to bed if he wanted to since he had driven down the day before. While I was getting ready Anna gave me a goody bag full of stuff - a Clif Bar to eat before the race (in addition to my banana), a sweat rag, a bath bomb to use afterwards (for a nice, relaxing bath that I STILL haven't used!!!) and a gift certificate for a full body massage at a local spa......:woohoo: Like I said, she rocks!
Anyway, I was ready to go in about 10 minutes (no makeup for a 5K!). I had made arrangements to meet disser Pat (poolrat) out by the main pool so we could ride over together. Anna insisted on taking my picture before my first 5K.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3699.jpg
Pat was waiting for me right where she said she'd be and we headed to my car. It was so nice to have someone to ride with and nice to meet a new disser. Hi, Pat! :goodvibes Glad I got to meet you in real life! :hug:
When we got to Animal Kingdom the traffic was horrible, but it moved fast and we were parked in no time. We made our way up to the massive starting area, me trying to pin on my bib while we were walking. We saw a picture guy up near the front and stopped for a picture. I didn't order it, but I took this with my phone off the computer.....sneaky, sneaky!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/photo.jpg
By the way, my shirt has Dory on the front and says, "Just Keep Swimming" on the back. About 5 different people said to me, "Your shirt is keeping me going!" during the race. :thumbsup2
Pat and I agreed that once the running actually started, we would just do our own thing instead of trying to keep up with each other. Since I'm a relatively new runner, I didn't want to slow anyone down and I also get more winded if I'm talking while I'm running!
They didn't really tell us but we figured out that you could start out where you were supposed to start by signs that had pace times listed. I think I had put my pace time as 13 minutes per mile and she seemed to be about the same, so we tried to get around that area. It wasn't really being managed though, so we could have really gotten anywhere we wanted.
As we were looking for a spot to cram ourselves into the masses, I turned around to see Mickey and Minnie joining the crowd!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2330.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2332.jpg
They were quickly ushered through, though. No time for autographs or pictures or anything. We finally got a spot in the crowd. There were a few people dressed up for the 5K since it was Halloween themed. There was a very tall/big guy near us that had a full-on rubber Batman costume on. His girlfriend/wife was wiping the sweat off his face before we even started the race.....and before the sun came up. Um....NOT a good idea, dude!!! Wish I would've gotten a picture but I didn't think about it.
Here's the crowd as we waited for the race to start.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2333.jpg
Finally the crowd started moving and we were off! Here comes the start line!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2335.jpg
Mickey and Minnie (and the emcee) were to the left to cheer us on at the start line....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2336.jpg
We crossed the start line somewhere around 3 minutes....in other words, it took 3 minutes for the crowd in front of us to move forward enough to where we actually were at the start line. I was surprised that we were able to start running as soon as we hit the start line - I figured it would take a few minutes b/c of the crowd. But we were running almost as soon as we crossed the start line!
My goal for this, my first-ever 5K, was just to run the entire thing and finish in 45 minutes or less.
Pat and I ran together for maybe half a mile, but then she went on ahead of me and I didn't see her any more. Bye, Pat! :goodvibes
The race started in the parking lot and headed away from the park, then around the back of the parking lot and back towards the entrance and into Animal Kingdom. This is mile marker 1, which was near bag check....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2337.jpg
The first character I saw was King Louie and Baloo....hi, King Louie and Baloo!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2338.jpg
I never realized that the area going through the Oasis heading into the park was uphill, but you do realize that when you're running!!! :rotfl2:
I didn't take any pictures for awhile. The trail went to the left towards Pizzafari, into Africa, and then we took a left down a "backstage" area that runs parallel to Rafiki's train. There was a water stop here and this was the only time I actually walked, while I was drinking water.
They had several animals out along the way along this backstage area. I snapped a picture of a tortoise.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2341.jpg
The way the trail was set up, you ran waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back into the backstage area, then you did a hairpin turn and then came back, so you were running alongside the trail you just were on. Hope that makes sense. In other words, the people you were passing/going the opposite direction of were people who were behind you. Well, when I was almost at the end of that area, I saw Batman. He was WAY back there and he was walking. I knew he wouldn't last long! Dark Knight my foot. :rolleyes1
Mile 2!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2343.jpg
We then headed towards Asia.....the sun was coming up over Everest!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2344.jpg
Goofy was near EE to greet runners....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2345.jpg
I didn't stop for any character pictures. There were lines for them and I knew that would add at least 2 minutes per character to my time. And I could see the characters at other times. But it was really cool to see them along the way....something you're not gonna find at any other 5K! :goodvibes
We headed towards Dinoland and Donald was there dressed as a dinosaur....so cute! Wish the picture wasn't so blurry but I was running....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2346.jpg
Instead of going back into the center of the park after Dinoland, they had us cut to the left and head into another backstage area. We were nearing the end of the race and they had gravediggers in this area....which I thought was totally appropriate! :rotfl:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2347.jpg
I thought the sun coming up was pretty. You can see all the runners to the right if you look really hard....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2348.jpg
Mile 3.....almost there!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2349.jpg
I knew I only had .1 mile left so I ran as fast as I could to the end and this is my official time....minus about 3 minutes. ;)
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2350.jpg
So I reached my goal - running the entire thing (minus a few seconds to drink some water) and finishing under 45 minutes. I surprised myself b/c when I'm at home running I die around 2.5 miles. But this was so doable - I didn't even think about walking. I guess when you're surrounded by other runners and also in such a cool environment it really helps!
I got my medal and my goody bag and asked a guy to take this picture of me since I was now by myself....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2352.jpg
Meanwhile....back at ASSports......
While I was running the 5K Anna and the boys were sitting out by the pool, having breakfast. She took a few pictures....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3707.jpg
I texted her pictures while I was running and she was cheering me on. :)
I got back to the room to find them playing while Anna was getting ready for their day at EPCOT. Me and my baby....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3711.jpg
Anna and Luke left shortly after I got back to head to EPCOT, while I took a shower and let Seth take a mid-morning nap. It was weird...he went to sleep at like 9:00 that morning which is way early for him to take a nap. I guess he was still tired from the day before. We relaxed in the room for awhile and let him sleep...he didn't wake up until around 11:00! But I just let him sleep so we'd have a good day at EPCOT. Plus I was tired myself.
So that was my first 5K. I hope to do another one at Disney one day. It was loads of fun! Glad I got to experience it. And glad I got to meet Pat, too!
Next up......the Food and Wine Festival brings out the masses at EPCOT! :eek:
Anyway, I was ready to go in about 10 minutes (no makeup for a 5K!). I had made arrangements to meet disser Pat (poolrat) out by the main pool so we could ride over together. Anna insisted on taking my picture before my first 5K.....
Pat was waiting for me right where she said she'd be and we headed to my car. It was so nice to have someone to ride with and nice to meet a new disser. Hi, Pat! :goodvibes Glad I got to meet you in real life! :hug:
I amright over your shoulder there. :lmao: I am so glad I met you too.
When we got to Animal Kingdom the traffic was horrible, but it moved fast and we were parked in no time. We made our way up to the massive starting area, me trying to pin on my bib while we were walking. We saw a picture guy up near the front and stopped for a picture. I didn't order it, but I took this with my phone off the computer.....sneaky, sneaky!
I did that too!!!! :rotfl2:How funny. I had to search for that one.
I am glad Disney has parking down, I saw the crowds and almost panicked.
There was a very tall/big guy near us that had a full-on rubber Batman costume on. His girlfriend/wife was wiping the sweat off his face before we even started the race.....and before the sun came up. Um....NOT a good idea, dude!!! Wish I would've gotten a picture but I didn't think about it.
We did say he was going to be a sweaty mess!
Finally the crowd started moving and we were off! Here comes the start line!
I may borrow this for mine since I did not get one if it is OK.
Pat and I agreed that once the running actually started, we would just do our own thing instead of trying to keep up with each other.
Pat and I ran together for maybe half a mile, but then she went on ahead of me and I didn't see her any more. Bye, Pat! :goodvibes
It was so crowded I finally saw an opening and I took it. :lmao:
The race started in the parking lot and headed away from the park, then around the back of the parking lot and back towards the entrance and into Animal Kingdom. This is mile marker 1, which was near bag check....
[
I saw that and thought 1 mile and we are not even in the park yet???
It was great meeting and riding with you. Did you ever get a chance to eat your "jelly beans" that Anna gave you for the race?
I realize that my pictures are no longer there and those annoying "bandwidth exceeded" pictures are there instead. Very strange. I just posted this update like 5 hours ago! I went to photobucket to see what the problem was and their page isn't loading. So I'm hoping it's on their end and my account is still okay. Anyway, I'll keep checking on it - just wanted everyone to know I'm aware. :)
Way to go on your 5K! I would like to do that someday. I 5K seems doable, I don't think there is any way I could finish 1/2 marathon.
I do remember you! I hope we can all get together for a meet, too! Seth's got 8 teeth now. That is unless a molar or two have come in without me knowing. I'm not sticking my finger in there! :rotfl: We did Seth's first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop and it was really cute! Great experience - I definitely recommend it. I'll have lots of pics and a video when I get to that day.
Jill already told you where the baby center was, but in case you didn't see her post it's near Pizzafari. It was very quiet and clean. I also used the one at MK and EPCOT and they were nice too. Never had to use the one at DHS.
Thanks for reading and welcome! :goodvibes
Thanks so much! :)
We have her first haircut scheduled our first day at MK in Feb. I'm so excited. But, I'm very honest and don't want any cuts before then. Her hair is getting out of control:laughing:
Yes, I did see Jill's post. I plan on using them. I don't know why I have only used the MK one:confused: Can't wait to read more of your trip report!!!!
Yeah, the only other picture they had of me was a VERY unflattering picture near the end of the race. So I definitely wasn't buying anything!
We did say he was going to be a sweaty mess!
:scared:
I may borrow this for mine since I did not get one if it is OK.
No problem!
I hear ya! The crowd wasn't too bad but having to think about dodging people while I'm running was so new to me.
I saw that and thought 1 mile and we are not even in the park yet???
Seriously! I was glad I didn't try to take Seth after that part. He would've been bored. And then the part where we went WAYYYYYYYY back into the very boring backstage area.....he would have gotten antsy to get out of his stroller.
It was great meeting and riding with you. Did you ever get a chance to eat your "jelly beans" that Anna gave you for the race?
I did! I ate a few right when we got up to the front and then the others I ate right before the 2nd water stop. I don't know if they helped or not but they didn't hurt!
And it was nice to meet you too! :goodvibes
Congrats again Dawn on running the 5k, and in such good time!! :thumbsup2
You definitely look like you had a great morning for running! But why, why on Earth would that man dress up like Batman?!? :confused3
Thanks! Surprisingly I was okay the entire day. We had an early night that night so it wasn't bad at all.
I just got the wispies that grow over his ears cut. I didn't want any of the back cut on the off chance that he will have some curl back there. The guy I had was sooooooo good with Seth!
Oh my goodness.....CONGRATS!!!! :yay: I'm so super excited for you! The best tips I can give you off the top of my head - move at their pace, have lots of snacks on hand (depending on their age), make diaper and feeding kits to grab instead of having to rummage through a diaper bag/backpack for everything. In the diaper kits I had a diaper, a small package of wipes, a disposable changing table cover and a poopy diaper trash bag. In the feeding kits I had utensils, a disposable bib, those disposable table toppers that you stick to the table and his food. Helped a ton!
Ray, Seth and I finally headed towards EPCOT around 11:00-ish. We parked at the Boardwalk since we had an ADR at Kouzzina later, and walked to the International Gateway.....and saw the crowd. Wow....I've never seen this entrance so crowded! But alas, it wasn't really that bad - they just had only 2 turnstiles open and 1 bag check guy! ON THE OPENING SATURDAY OF F&W FESTIVAL....:confused3 I don't get it. Anyway, that was really fun...standing in the hot sun to get into the park with a bored, impatient baby in his stroller.
After we finally got in, the wonderful fragrance of the delicious food we were about to encounter hit me as I came over the hill. YUM!!! We decided to kinda scope things out before we dove in.
We headed through the UK and Canada first, then we decided to stop at a little Champagne and Dessert kiosk near the entrance to WS and get this....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2353.jpg
and this...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2354.jpg
The first pic is a dessert trio of lemon chiffon, white chocolate macadamia mousse with chocolate pearls and tres leches verrine and the thing Ray is holding is vanilla soft serve with REAL Grand Marnier topping. Sure, we hadn't had lunch yet. But dessert for lunch suits me fine. :rotfl2: And I really enjoyed getting a slight buzz from ice cream!!! :rotfl: The white chocolate macadamia mousse with chocolate pearls was AMAZING.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2355.jpg
We found lines to be VERY long on this day, probably b/c it was the first weekend of the F&W Festival and there were a lot of locals there. We knew we'd be back on Wednesday, so I didn't want to break my neck trying everything. Oh, and guess what - we found prices to be slightly cheaper on Wednesday too! Sneaky, Disney.....very very sneaky.
A couple of pics as we made our way around WS, from Mexico going towards Norway and so on.....
I got my beloved Oolong Peach Schnapps Frozen Tea in China, but they've now changed the name to a Peach Snap. Still sooooo delicious - most underrated drink in all of Disney....
We stopped at the Hops and Barley kiosk in America for this.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2357.jpg
It's a pumpkin mousse with Ocean Spray Craisins and orange sauce. It was very good! Ray also got a Sam Adams Octoberfest beer but I forgot to take a picture of it. Beer is beer, I guess.
Walking on....
Having a snack!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07794.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07797.jpg
We decided we were hungry for lunch (ha!) and wanted food from the Cantina in Mexico. So we took the boat from the Morroco area back over to the other side so we'd have less walking to do. We split some nachos and churros.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2358.jpg
We got a spot to eat outside the actual restaurant (which was packed) on a bench in the shade. While we were sitting there eating and I was feeding Seth, a couple and what I think was the man's mother sat next to us. At first they were very friendly and talking to Seth. Then they were talking amongst themselves and I noticed their conversation started getting more heated. At one point the daughter-in-law (?) said, "I just don't understand why everyone else has to be miserable b/c you're mad at him." The mother said, "Oh, and I'm the only one that ever complains, right?" And then the DIL said, "You know what? I'm not putting up with this f*cking sh*t!" and stormed off. Ray and I just sort of glanced at each other and dared not look in their direction. The guy just sort of sighed and got up to chase his girlfriend/wife and the mother just sat there. AWKWARD!!!!! :eek:
Okay, so after our lunch and a front row seat to the Jerry Springer Show, we decided to utilize the baby center to change Seth and get a little bit of a break.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2362.jpg
He wouldn't keep his shoes on that day!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2366.jpg
I got a shot of where the baby center is in case anyone is wondering....
Ray looks mad!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07799.jpg
Ray had gone over to the Caribbean kiosk to get me a frozen dragon berry colada while I was changing Seth....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07801.jpg
See how small that cup is? Yeah, that sucker cost like $8! Way too much for the amount they give you. And on Wednesday it was cheaper than that. :mad:
Time for some Bruce pictures!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07846.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07847.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07848.jpg
Oh, on a side note, if you have children and you take them to the Bruce area, be sure to make sure they don't cut in front of a mother with her baby who is waiting patiently to have their picture taken inside Bruce's mouth, please. That was so annoying. I just sort of stood back to let the kids who were already in there get finished with their pics. And one kid after another would go right in front of me, get right up behind the kid who was already in there and then go next. I let it slide a few times but then I told the next little girl that did it, "Sweetie, there's a line and it starts behind me." Her mom heard me and gave me a look, but I really don't care. That's just rude....way to teach your kids manners. People at Disney World continue to shock me with that kind of stuff. :headache:
Not to end on a sour note (because it really wasn't that big of a deal....just a vent), but I'm gonna stop here. Next update....more WS with Anna and Luke, some first steps and the worst dinner of the trip! :snooty:
Awesome update! :thumbsup2
Those first desserts you tried look awesome! Especially that white chocolate macadamia mousse. Oh my gosh... YUM!
The oolong peach tea schnapps is seriously the best drink. And you're right, not many people seem to know about it! More for us... :rolleyes1
Seth looks so cute & happy chillin' in his stroller and eating those goldfish!
Gahhh, I don't like that Bruce area at all. It's a madhouse and the wait to take a picture is aggravating! I totally feel your pain.
All the food you tried looks delish! I hope to make it to Food and Wine someday.
I'm constantly in awe of how parents let their children behave these days. I'm not sure if I notice it more now that I'm a Mom or if it really is just worse :confused3:sad2:
Regarding Seth's stroller - it looks like you took a jogging stroller - would you recommend this? We are taking my Son next year (he will be 16 months) and we are debating between his regular stroller, an umbrella stroller or investing in a jogging (which we want anyway). Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah, I never ran over anyone either. I was thanking goodness that I decided against bringing Seth in the stroller. I would've been so stressed out!
I know I would have been stressed with a stroller. At the beginning there were spots where I had a hard time navigating. :laughing:
Thanks! I love swimming too but I just don't have the means to do it very often. There's a big aquatic center near my office but I couldn't do it on my lunch break b/c I'd have to blow dry my hair and that takes 30 minutes! :rotfl:
Yeah me too. :lmao: You would think I would have time to hop in but the process of getting changed and getting in and then reversing it all afterwards is too much. Also I cannot swim in a pool I manage, I always find things that need to be done and spend more time looking around and not swimming. :laughing:
Me too! I knew if I had something like that hanging over my head I'd keep training. Now if you ask me if I've been running consistently since we got home??? :rolleyes1 I plead the Fifth.
Consitently?!?!?!?! I don't think I ever really ran consistently. :lmao: I just had to be happy when I cold get it in, depending on how I felt and what time I had and the weather. :rolleyes1
Hmm... peach snaps and tea- sounds intriguing. Is this drink offered just during F&W, or will I have a shot at trying it out in Dec?
I agree that the macadamia nut mousse was a great choice, it was one of our favorite dessert offerings at the festival!
I don't understand the way that some people just let their children run around without supervision in places like Disney. It seems really frequent that kids do crazy stuff and I look around to see who they belong to and no adult is near or paying attention to what the kids are doing. For their own protection, it's a crazy world out there and just because you're at disney doesn't mean there can't be a crazy nearby waiting to snatch your kid when you're not looking. Children need to be watched, and directed, if not for improving their manners and character, for their own protection. That's the way I think about it at least.
Glad to see you started your day with dessert, my husband would never go for that. He refuses to eat sweet stuff before consuming something "breakfast regular food". Whatever that means... :rotfl2: No worries though, I can find my way to the desserts any time of day all on my own :laughing:
And WOW the F & W crowds do look big!
Worst dinner? Uh Oh.........
You know what's weird? Your comment on my update is before my update! :confused3
The Peach Snap is soooooo good! And I found it as an alternative to the plum slushie on my trip with Erica in 2008. So good! Yes, Bruce is a madhouse...they need to have a marked queue area!
All the food you tried looks delish! I hope to make it to Food and Wine someday.
I loved having our jogging stroller with us. One note though - some jogging strollers have front wheels that are locked and don't swivel. Mine has a lock option or a swivel option. If it's locked it's VERY hard to steer - the lock is just used for when you're running. We had a regular stroller given to us before Seth was born and we never used it b/c I love the jogging stroller we have so much. I think it was about $140 at Babies R Us. I'd definitely recommend having either the regular one or the jogging stroller for a 16-month-old. Seth was 13 months on this trip and it was nice that he could just lay back and take a nap when he got tired and be comfortable. I think with an umbrella stroller the naps wouldn't be as comfortable and he wouldn't have slept as well. And the shade on the stroller was a must for us b/c of the hot Florida sun!
I know I would have been stressed with a stroller. At the beginning there were spots where I had a hard time navigating. :laughing:
Yeah me too. :lmao: You would think I would have time to hop in but the process of getting changed and getting in and then reversing it all afterwards is too much. Yeah, the beginning was kinda hairy. I didn't feel like we spread out much until we actually got into the park. And my running is pretty much non-existent right now. I'm aiming to start soon....just gotta get some motivation!
I don't know how we managed a decent shot. Well, yes, I do. I yelled at little kids and they were scared to come near me! :lmao:
Nope, not special for F&W....it's there all the time, so you're in luck! You can get one in China at the little tea stand (think it's called "Joy of Tea" or something like that) on the right near the water if Norway is behind you.
I didn't realize the prices were cheaper during the week. We were there from 10/26 to 11/1.
Sam Adams is a "premium" beer here, but you can find it anywhere really. Yeah, when that lady dropped the F bomb I was shocked, but thank goodness Seth is not at the age where he's picking up words yet. Although it's starting now but at that point he wasn't. If he was like 2 or 3 I probably would've said something like, "Can we watch the language around my child, please?" Then she probably would've threw a few F bombs at me too!
The picture of Seth looking at the Nemo fish is just precious. I love the expression on his face.
I don't understand the way that some people just let their children run around without supervision in places like Disney. Before I get to an update, I wanted to share some pictures from this fall.
First of all (I can't believe I didn't post these) here are some pictures from Seth's 1-year session. These were taken in mid September. There were so many good ones (if you live in the Atlanta area and need a good photographer, google Heather Horton....she's awesome!) but here are a few of my favorites....
The Friday before Halloween everyone at my office brought their kids to Trick-or-Treat around the building. Here we have Griffin (Buzz Lightyear), Seth (my cheeseburger), Lauren (a ladybug), Sarah (a witch), Will (a cowboy), Jovie (a gnome), and Elliott (Thomas the Train).....
And here are pictures of Halloween night. I hate this picture of Seth but it's the only one with the entire costume....
Okay, so back to Disney.....
We had just finished with Nemo and we decided to call Anna to see what they were up to and then head back to WS for more F&W fun.
On our way in that direction.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07850.jpg
We stopped in Canada so I could get some cold milk for Seth from a snack place and Anna texted me back that they had just left the UK....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3745.jpg
.... and were in France heading towards Morocco.....
Doesn't Luke look enthused?
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/Photo0071FourBySix.jpg
He was too busy playing in the fountain for this one....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/Photo0075FourBySix.jpg
We started heading that way and we passed my favorite girl in the UK....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07851.jpg
Of course I didn't want to make Seth wait in line for her (he'd be like, "Who is this blonde chick anyway?") so I got a pic from afar....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07852-1.jpg
When we got to France I called Anna and they were in Morroco getting some ice cream, so we told her we'd meet her there.
After a nice break we headed towards Japan.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3755.jpg
And then on to America. We wanted a Lobster claw and another pumpkin mousse from the Hops & Barley kiosk. Ray went to wait in line for them while Anna, Luke, Seth and myself went towards the shaded area in America to let Luke explore the Kidcot area over there.
Seth and Luke playing.....(Really Luke was coloring his Duffy bear and letting Seth play with the markers he wasn't using with the lids on!)
We sat there for awhile and let the kids play while we ate the lobster and pumpkin mousse. Seth was in a daring mood that day and wanted to explore some walking on his own.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07868.jpg
He actually took a few steps right there in the America pavilion at EPCOT! :yay: He had only taken a couple of steps here and there at home, and this was the best he had done so far....I think it was about 5 or 6 steps. (Of course now he's all over the place and is getting faster and faster....I'm getting my share of chasing him around!)
Onward through WS.....
It was when we were in China that we decided we were toast and wanted to call it a day. Well, there was one problem. We had a reservation at Kouzzina at 6:35 and it was only about 5:00. So going back to the resort now wouldn't make sense - we'd just have to turn right back around and come back. So I called Disney Dining to see if anything else was available between 5:00-6:00 in the area. The only thing that came up was Biergarten and I knew Ray would really really hate that. So no luck for us!
We were sitting in the shaded area where the tables are in Norway when I was doing all this attempted rearranging and Seth had fallen asleep in his stroller, so we decided to just stay put for a few minutes. Ray went to grab one of these for us since I had been saying I wanted one....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2375.jpg
It's the grilled beef skewer with Chimichurri sauce and Boniato puree from Argentina. Anna and I split it and was good, but my tummy didn't like about 30 minutes later. :rolleyes:
Poor little sleepy dude....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2376.jpg
We decided a few minutes to go ahead and walk towards the Boardwalk and check in early, hoping they could seat us early. On our way out.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07885.jpg
Love this fountain in Mexico!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3780.jpg
Seth woke up somewhere along the Boardwalk. I went into Kouzzina to check in early while everyone else found a spot to wait. The guy at the hostess stand told me he couldn't check me in until about 6:10. It was 5:40. :headache:
So we just sat and waited and watched people along the Boardwalk....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3782.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3783.jpg
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_3788.jpg
Finally at 6:10 I went back to Kouzzina. He told me it would be a couple more minutes. So I waited a few minutes while NO ONE came into the restaurant. And then he said, "I can take 6:30 reservations now." We had 6:35 reservations. I asked and he told me it would be another 5 minutes. So I sat back down and texted Ray to tell him he could probably head over there since we would be sat soon. Well, in between the time I texted him and the time he got there, 593 people walked through the door, all of whom he checked in!!! :scared1: I was so mad that the guy didn't take check us in before all those people walked in - now we were behind all of them! Anna could tell how P-O-ed I was so she took care of it from there b/c I didn't want to cuss someone at Disney (seriously). Luckily whatever she said worked b/c he sat us within about 10 minutes.
After we sat down Seth was getting pretty irritable. He wasn't being horrible but he was being loud and Ray said he saw several people staring at us. He HATES that....makes him totally uncomfortable. He ended up taking Seth outside while we ordered. We decided to get some appetizers to share and Luke got a kids meal.
I went outside to check on Ray and Seth and right then and there we decided that we didn't need to commit ourselves to every ADR we had. I decided I'd call and cancel them if it looked like we weren't going to make it. The only one we had that had a cancellation policy was the Fantasmic! dining package at Mama Melrose the next day. I called Disney Dining right then and cancelled it. Lesson learned: do not make commitments you can't keep with a 1-year-old. Having a not-so-rigid plan makes his and our lives so much easier!
So we head back into the restaurant and our food arrives shortly afterwards. We got calamari, spanakopita (not sure if I spelled that right) and garlic smashed potatoes to share.
Calamari....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07902.jpg
Spanakopita.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07903.jpg
I looked down at a plate that our server had sat next to Luke's plate and it was full of new potatoes. I asked if that came with Luke's meal, and Anna said "No, I think those are the garlic smashed potatoes." Um.....okay. I didn't even get a picture....I guess I was so shocked I forgot. They were new potatoes (or maybe fingerling...they were pretty small) with salt on them. Not smashed. Not garlic-y. Something my 7-year-old niece could make. FOR REAL. The calamari breading had no taste and the calamari itself was rubbery. The spanakopita was just okay.
I was really, really disappointed with this meal. Being that Cat Cora is an Iron Chef (haha) I just thought the food would be really good. Not so. I know she's not there cooking but she created the menu and the recipes and they weren't good at all! And to top it off 3 appetizers (we got 2 orders of calamari....unfortunately), 1 side dish, a kids meal and 1 non-alcoholic beverage (Anna and I had water) cost us $62. So not worth it. (We had free dining at this part of the trip but we were saving our other 2 credits for the next day and thought getting appetizers instead of full meals would be the way to go here.)
So after our not-so-great dinner, Ray, Seth and I headed back to the car and back to All-Star Sports to call it a night while Anna and Luke had a good time exploring the Boardwalk.....
Its so tough predicting what little ones will do! I hate being tied to dining also, but really, what other choice do you have. This new policy of having to cancel 1 day in advance for signature and character dining is going to make it even harder! :headache:
My DH gets really upset if Everett starts making any noise in a restaurant also, so I understand. He gets really embarrassed.
I'm also sorry to hear that your meal wasn't any good! We have an ADR there for Feb, now I'm thinking maybe we should try somewhere else. I really like Greek food, so the menu looked good, but if the execution is terrible, I'd rather go elsewhere.
At least you got to salvage the evening with Illuminations! Did Seth sleep through it, or did he get to watch some of the fireworks! :yay:
First off, Seth is adorableeeeee!! I just want to pinch his little cheeks and eat him up! Every picture he's smiling so big in his photoshoot and you got soooo many good ones. I love his cheeseburger costume, too! :goodvibes
Hmmm, that lobster claw looked gooood! I'm sad to hear Kouzzina was so bad...what the heck was the check-in thing all about?? I would have been pissed, too. And hearing that the food is bad is disappointing. Breakfast was really good for Chris and I but I know to stay away from there for dinner!
Luke and Anna look like they had fun at the Boardwalk and Epcot! I'm in a sweets kind of mood...I want all those desserts :rotfl:
Better late than never, right? I'm in :) Love that it seems you have a more laid back "touring plan". We are going for our first time in Feb and I haven't made any hardcore touring plans. Nice to see you can still relax and just go with the flow at Disney! Can't wait to see more. Seth is adorable!
Seth's 1 year pictures turned out awesome, Dawn! He is seriously such a handsome little boy... and I love that smile of his!
Oh my goodness! I adore Seth's costume :goodvibes How cute is he as a cheeseburger? Precious!
His fair hair is adorable, too! He looks so grown up sitting there getting it done... like he does it everyday!
Sounds like a fun afternoon walking around World Showcase! It looks pretty crowded. Was going during Food & Wine Fest a big difference crowd wise?
I totally know what you mean about not wanting anything "committed" as far as meals go. You never with toddlers and it makes for a much better time if you don't force anything for sure!
That totally stinks that Kouzzina wasn't the best experience. I wanted to give it a try, but after your description, I don't think I want to anymore!
That video of his laugh is too stinkin' cute!
This week is leaving me grabbing the Dis while I can ( Like at work ) ;)
Seth looks adorable in the his birthday photos. A cheeseburger for Halloween! What a great idea. He looks like he had a great time there too.
Too bad for Kouzzina. The whole check in thing and then being tired to boot did not make dinner any better.
I hope you got in the swing of things a bit later as you adjusted to having Seth along.
Now it just takes me to the end of a thread :confused3 I didn't even realize you had posted an update until someone said something about the pictures. That has happened several times recently! Awesome portraits of Seth!
Bummer that he was a little fussy at dinner. We were the same way as Ray, and always felt like everyone was staring at us if our kids got upset or were a little loud in a restaurant. It's tough traveling with a little tyke, but it does get better! (And more challenging in other ways, but that's a topic for another time. ;) )
That stinks that you had such a crappy experience at Kouzzina. I would have been seriously PO'd about that check-in incident, too :headache:
I can't wait to see Seth meeting his first character!
We loved Kouzzina when we tried it...but we didn't have any of the same things you tried. :laughing:
I'm glad you decided to not make every adr.....I'm always frustrated by people who sit there with their kids crying or running wild durring dinner. I always wonder why they put the kids through a long sit down meal basically tourturing themselves, the child and everyone else.
I guess I should clarify that I mean kids who are really causing a scene not just the average fussing......
Seth is just too cute. I'm enjoying reading your report. I'm really curious to know what it's like taking a 12-month old. I think I told you this, but as much as I want to go back, I think we're going to wait until we're done having kids and they'll be a little older.
Man, I can't see your pictures! I will check back again later.
I wish you would have had a better experience at Kouzinna. We LOVED it, even my picky boys liked it. We did not have any appetizers though. Our desserts weren't very good at all but our meals were.
I want to go for food and wine festival sometime. I think we caught the end of it on one of our early trips but didn't really know what it was back then.
Okay, techies, I need help. So I think the "bandwidth exceeded" thing means that too many people have accessed my pics, right? I went back and set all my albums on photobucket to private. Do I need to go and re-post all my pictures now in the update? Argh!
I think I got that a year or more ago and ended up springing for an upgraded account. I was just using the freebie version before that.
I just went in and couldn't even figure out how to look at my account. :headache:
If you go to photobucket and look under my account you can see stats what and how many of you photos are being viewed. It will also tell you your membership date when the "new month " rolls over.
I don't think you need to repost the pics. Making the album private should help but maybe only "next month" when it rolls over and the bandwidth starts over.
Not sure if that helped at all. :confused3
Seth 1 year pictures came out great! My favorite is the black and white one of him sitting on the sidewalk.
Food and Wine looked good. I enjoy going during that time - so fun getting to try new things!
My husband and I both hate getting looks at resturants so much that we hardly go out with the boys anymore. Of course, when we are at Disney - we are eating out 3 times a day - Yikes! We were lucky one time at the Coral Reef for dinner that Nate was sleeping in the stroller and they let us bring the stroller in there. It was so nice to have a quiet dinner!
I haven't deserted you, just soooo busy this week, I've not been able to catch up. Thanks for posting - I've been looking forward to your trip for a long time!
Seth's photo shoot is amazing! Your photographer really got some fun shots!
The cheeseburger costume is such a cute idea! Your co-workers all had some really creative ones for their kiddos too.
Great day at Epcot -yay for Seth taking his first steps!:yay: Too bad about running out of gas and having to wait for ADRs that didn't turn out for you.:headache: We have decided that we just don't want to overplan our next trip with little ones - we will probably make one or two character meal ADRs and then just do CS for the rest. We've been a little frustrated by having to make ressies 6 mos in advance when we don't even know what we're going to feel like doing.
Seth's little laugh is adorable for sure! Congrats for taking your trip at his pace - I know it made it better for all of you!
Seth's pictures are adorable! Photography has come so far since when I was small and we just posed infront of a backdrop and forced smiles.
Sorry about Kouzzina. I had an ADR there for our trip last december and about a week prior they called to inform me they were cancelling our reservation so that they could do some remodeling or something. I was pretty mad since I would have a super difficult time replacing it a week before the trip. That left a bad taste in my mouth, and my husband's too, I don't know when we'll put them back on our list of places to try.
Loving the food and wine pics popcorn:: can't wait to get there and try some for myself.
Still here Dawn - lurking without alot of time to comments - but trying to keep up with all of the TR's. I do have to comment though, that Seth's pictures are so beautiful! I don't know how she did it but got him to smile in every picture - and amazing smiles at that!!:love:
I am a loyal lurker too....love that title!
I just never seem to think I have anything worthwhile to add, sorry! But I do love following along and checking out those beautiful pictures you take and seeing the fun you are having! Keep up the great work!
LOVE the photo shoot pics! They turned out so cute! :thumbsup2 Seth is just so photogenic and always has a great smile. Love that it makes me smile too. He is the cutest cheeseburger I've ever seen. That is the best part about Halloween.. the littlest trick or treaters.
I want to go back to Epcot and try the Peach Schnapps drink! I wanted to get drinks when we were there, but I was always sooo full, I couldn't manage ANYTHING else. I didn't even get a school bread! :eek: My DH is so over Disney World & Disneyland, I think my next trip may have to be a mom & daughter trip to see Christmas decorations at the WDW. We have AP's to Disneyland and go for every season (I was just there on Friday), but the food isn't the same, and I can't get good drinks there (plus I'm usually driving, so it would be a no go even if I found them)!
Anyway... thanks for the great pictures and letting us all follow along!
Seth's pictures are great! He is SOOOO cute. Is he as happy all the time as he seems to be in his pictures?
Epcot always makes me SO tired. It's just so much walking. I'm glad Seth got to ride Nemo and get his picture taken with Bruce even if you had to fight for it. ;)
He and Luke seem to be good buddies. They are very cute together.
Hello! I recently found your TR and excited to follow along! Two of my favorites topics too, traveling to Disney with a baby and running a 5k! Congratulations on the 5k! Also it is so awesome that Seth poses so well for pictures! He is adorable!!! I made the mistake of telling my DD 15 months to say cheeesseee when smiling. BIG mistake! Its so tough predicting what little ones will do! I hate being tied to dining also, but really, what other choice do you have. This new policy of having to cancel 1 day in advance for signature and character dining is going to make it even harder! :headache:
My DH gets really upset if Everett starts making any noise in a restaurant also, so I understand. He gets really embarrassed.
I'm also sorry to hear that your meal wasn't any good! We have an ADR there for Feb, now I'm thinking maybe we should try somewhere else. I really like Greek food, so the menu looked good, but if the execution is terrible, I'd rather go elsewhere.
At least you got to salvage the evening with Illuminations! Did Seth sleep through it, or did he get to watch some of the fireworks! :yay:
Yeah, we learned our lesson on that! He's generally very good about behaving in public but Ray gets so embarassed so easily with him. By no means do I let him scream or cause a scene, but I do give him more leeway than Ray does.
Don't let our experience at Kouzzina deter you....it may have just been an off night or specifically what we ordered. I've heard good things about it, which is why I was so disappointed.
We actually didn't go back to EPCOT after dinner. Ray and I headed back to the hotel to call it an early night (we had planned to anyway) and Anna and Luke stayed for Illuminations.
First off, Seth is adorableeeeee!! I just want to pinch his little cheeks and eat him up! Every picture he's smiling so big in his photoshoot and you got soooo many good ones. I love his cheeseburger costume, too! :goodvibes
Hmmm, that lobster claw looked gooood! I'm sad to hear Kouzzina was so bad...what the heck was the check-in thing all about?? I would have been pissed, too. And hearing that the food is bad is disappointing. Breakfast was really good for Chris and I but I know to stay away from there for dinner!
Luke and Anna look like they had fun at the Boardwalk and Epcot! I'm in a sweets kind of mood...I want all those desserts :rotfl:
Thanks! He was being a total ham that day...I got lucky! Yeah, not impressed with Kouzzina. Now I know! I've heard good things about dinner and breakfast both...maybe it was just an off night.
Better late than never, right? I'm in :) Love that it seems you have a more laid back "touring plan". We are going for our first time in Feb and I haven't made any hardcore touring plans. Nice to see you can still relax and just go with the flow at Disney! Can't wait to see more. Seth is adorable!
Thanks for reading! I don't enjoy doing a rigid touring plan. I mean, there are certain things I want to hit and of course reservations that have to be made, but other than that I don't have a set plan. I know people who have their day laid out by 15-minute increments....that's soooooooo not for me!
Cutest picture ever!! Look at that sweet face!!!
I love their costume choices!! ;)
Thanks...we need to get him and Hannah together to play! Yes, those costumes were so awesome!
Seth's pictures are adorable! He made a cute cheeseburger.
Can't wait to see how Seth did with his first character meets!
Thanks! I agree....he's a cute cheeseburger! :goodvibes
Seth's 1 year pictures turned out awesome, Dawn! He is seriously such a handsome little boy... and I love that smile of his!
Oh my goodness! I adore Seth's costume :goodvibes How cute is he as a cheeseburger? Precious!
His fair hair is adorable, too! He looks so grown up sitting there getting it done... like he does it everyday!
Sounds like a fun afternoon walking around World Showcase! It looks pretty crowded. Was going during Food & Wine Fest a big difference crowd wise?
I totally know what you mean about not wanting anything "committed" as far as meals go. You never with toddlers and it makes for a much better time if you don't force anything for sure!
That totally stinks that Kouzzina wasn't the best experience. I wanted to give it a try, but after your description, I don't think I want to anymore!
That video of his laugh is too stinkin' cute!
Thanks! He was okay with the fair hair until they did the colored hair spray part....he didn't care for that too much!
EPCOT was pretty crowded that Saturday (which was the day of the last update) but I think that was mostly due to the fact that it was the first weekend day of the festival. We went back on Wednesday and it wasn't NEARLY as bad!
Don't let our experience at Kouzzina make you not go - it may be that we had an off night. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on anything because of me!
I'm a loyal lurker.
Maybe other people are doing the same?
Thanks for saying hi! Yeah, I know you're right. I'm just needy. :rotfl2:
This week is leaving me grabbing the Dis while I can ( Like at work ) ;)
Seth looks adorable in the his birthday photos. A cheeseburger for Halloween! What a great idea. He looks like he had a great time there too.
Too bad for Kouzzina. The whole check in thing and then being tired to boot did not make dinner any better.
I hope you got in the swing of things a bit later as you adjusted to having Seth along.
I hear ya! Thanks. And it definitely got better. Just like anything else in life (and especially with kids) you have to learn as you go!
I don't know about anyone else, but my "go to last unread post" thingy isn't working. Now it just takes me to the end of a thread :confused3 I didn't even realize you had posted an update until someone said something about the pictures. That has happened several times recently! I guess I'd better go back and check previous pages from now on. Your professional pictures are beautiful!! Your camera takes really good pictures as well!! Do you have an SLR camera? I am really enjoying your trip report!
I didn't even know that option existed! :lmao: I usually just hit "User CP" on the left side and it shows me what threads that I'm subbed to have been updated since I last logged in. Oh, and I also always update my title when I post an update - makes it easier for everyone to see it's been updated recently.
Thanks about the pictures. Yes, it's an SLR camera. We love it, which is why I'm so bummed I left it in the car at AK!
Seth one year pics are adorable. He is getting so big! He also is the cutest cheeseburger I have ever seen. I am so sad I missed the Disney in October this year, first time since Brooklynn was a baby! Can't wait to be back in just a little over a month!
Thanks! I wanted something easy and the cheeseburger was perfect. And I don't know...it just fit his personality too!
Awesome portraits of Seth!
Bummer that he was a little fussy at dinner. We were the same way as Ray, and always felt like everyone was staring at us if our kids got upset or were a little loud in a restaurant. It's tough traveling with a little tyke, but it does get better! (And more challenging in other ways, but that's a topic for another time. ;) )
Thanks! I by no means let him scream or act up in a restaurant, but I'm a little more lenient than Ray is. I think he just doesn't want to be seen as the chaotic, loud family! :rotfl:
Seth's one year pictures came out great and I LOVE his cheeseburger costume!
That stinks that you had such a crappy experience at Kouzzina. I would have been seriously PO'd about that check-in incident, too :headache:
I can't wait to see Seth meeting his first character!
Thanks! Yeah, our experience at Kouzzina was unfortunate. I'm hoping it was a weird night or something.
We loved Kouzzina when we tried it...but we didn't have any of the same things you tried. :laughing:
I'm glad you decided to not make every adr.....I'm always frustrated by people who sit there with their kids crying or running wild durring dinner. I always wonder why they put the kids through a long sit down meal basically tourturing themselves, the child and everyone else.
I guess I should clarify that I mean kids who are really causing a scene not just the average fussing......
I've heard good things about it - maybe they just had an off night? I will NEVER be the mom who allows her child to scream and ruin everyone else's meal. Never. And I also will never be the mom who makes a huge mess and leaves it for the serve to clean up. If I have to leave abruptly for some reason and I can't clean up after my child, I will leave an extra big tip. Servers don't make enough to pick up soggy Cheerios....yuck.
Seth is just too cute. I'm enjoying reading your report. I'm really curious to know what it's like taking a 12-month old. I think I told you this, but as much as I want to go back, I think we're going to wait until we're done having kids and they'll be a little older.
Thanks! I think that's smart, Kristin. We had a blast with him on this trip but we're in no hurry to return. I know everyone's different but it was just so much WORK taking him to Disney, plus it's not like he's going to remember it, or remember that we DIDN'T take him the next year for that matter. I don't regret it - I'm glad we did it. But I'm not worried about planning another trip soon like I would be otherwise.
Man, I can't see your pictures! I will check back again later.
I wish you would have had a better experience at Kouzinna. We LOVED it, even my picky boys liked it. We did not have any appetizers though. Our desserts weren't very good at all but our meals were.
I want to go for food and wine festival sometime. I think we caught the end of it on one of our early trips but didn't really know what it was back then.
I hope you came back and looked at them - photobucket was being weird but I fixed the problem. Sorry about that! Yeah, I'm hoping the night we had at Kouzzina was just an off night. The food and wine festival was really cool! I want to do it again someday.
Seth 1 year pictures came out great! My favorite is the black and white one of him sitting on the sidewalk.
Adorable fall pictures of Seth! Love his hamburger costume!
It looks like a great afternoon enjoying World Showcase -- what a bummer that Kouzzina wasn't a very good meal. That pumpkin mousse looks divine, though.
Thanks! The pumpkin mousse was very good.....that's why we got it twice! :goodvibes
Just have time for a quick update but I figured you'd appreciate that over this Thanksgiving weekend. :goodvibes
(By the way, that one really cracks me up b/c of Santa's expression!)
This is the only decent one we got....
He didn't cry but he just wasn't very interested. :laughing:
So back to the TR.....
We're up to Sunday, October 2nd. Today we were checking out of All-Star Sports and into my beloved Wilderness Lodge! :yay:
Oh, before I go on, I forgot to tell you about what happened the night before. After we got back from EPCOT and got Seth to bed, I was sitting on the bed Seth was asleep in messing with my computer and Ray was sitting on the other bed watching TV. Well, around 10:30 or so we hear this rustling noise coming from the door. It sounded just like someone was trying to get in, like they were jiggling the door handle and messing with the lock. We both looked at each other, horrified. I was about .2 seconds away from grabbing Seth and heading to Anna's room when a piece of paper flew through the crack of the door. Ray got up to look at it and it was a menu from a local Chinese restaurant. I guess the rustling noise was the person trying to get the menu through the crack in the door. It scared the bejesus out of us!!!!!!!!! I mean, who does that at 10:30 at night???? And if they had woken up my child they might have had me chasing them down in the hallway. :mad: I called the front desk to tell them and the lady who answered was very apologetic, told me that was absolutely not allowed and she'd send someone right over to try to catch the person that did it. I hope they did.
Okay, on to Sunday. We woke up and packed up. I gave Seth some yogurt to tide him over since our breakfast wasn't scheduled until 10:30-ish at Cape May. Anna and Luke headed to DHS to get a couple of rides in before breakfast. They took our tickets with them to get us FPs to TSM, but I forgot you can't get a FP from a ticket that hasn't entered the park yet. :headache: So not FPs for us. No big deal....we had all week.
We were packed up and ready to go by like 9:30, so we decided to go ahead and head over to WL to get checked in before breakfast.
I didn't take any pictures of the lobby at check in, but our room in the villas was, amazingly, ready! :thumbsup2 We didn't have time to go see it since we had to get to breakfast, but it was nice to know we could come back here immediately after if we wanted to. I got my "welcome home" packet and then we headed back to the Beach Club.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/DSC07905.jpg
We waited maybe 10 minutes before they called our name and we were seated near the food bar.
Anna and Luke got there shortly after we did and then the characters came fast and furious (how I like 'em!).
Seth had spotted a character (Goofy?) at this point and I think he was perplexed....
Here are our plates of food from Cape May.....
Ray - biscuits and gravy, bacon and potatotes...
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2385.jpg
Me - asparagus, some sort of breakfast casserole (I don't remember liking it), apple sweet roll, grits, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes and oatmeal on the side.....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2386.jpg
My second plate - another breakfast casserole (this one was better), fruit, chocolate Mickey waffle and syrup, bacon, asparagus and potatoes. Oh, and some fruit loops for Seth. He ate off my plate but I got him some of those b/c he'd never had them before and he LOVED them!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2390.jpg
We really liked the breakfast here. The characters were great and the food was awesome. We'll be back for sure!
Anna and Luke headed back to DHS, while Ray, Seth and I went back to the car to go back to WL to get settled into our room and take a little break (and hopefully a nap for Seth) before we headed to DHS ourselves. Well, right when we got in the parking lot at the Beach Club I reached into my pocket and the small wallet I was keeping everything in - my license, Ray's license, our credit card, park tickets, photopass card - was gone. I panicked and told Ray I had to go back inside and retrace my steps. He took Seth on to the car and I did just that. I went all the way back to the restaurant and no wallet. Anna and Luke were just leaving and they helped me look with no luck. While they were looking, I ran out into the main lobby and asked a CM, who directed me to a specific CM at the front desk. She opened a drawer and there it sat - someone had just turned it in and everything was in it.....:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes THANK GOD FOR HONEST PEOPLE!!!!! Seriously. That would have ruined our vacation!!! I don't know who turned it in but I said a prayer for them right then and there!
When I came back outside Ray was pulling up and he was so relieved to see I had it in my hand. Phew! :rolleyes:
That's it for now. More when I have more time. In the meantime.....
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!
ETA: I edited the picture - it's the right one now!
Oh Dawn I know how you feel about losing a wallet! I left my Pocketbook (over 6 credut cards and 2000 in cash) at the Gorilla viewing area once. I was feeding my son at the time he was just 10 months. I did not realize until we got to Tusker House. My husband ran through the park like Mike Brady on the Brady Bunch episode when they switched posters lol..needless to say it was right at Customer Relations Desk because an honest diser found it! AMEN!
The pic of the three of you is gorgeous! Seth is smiling so beautifully..bless his lil soul
I have done Cape May for dinner but need to find a time to get breakfast in.
The lost wallet. Holy cow I hada similar episode with just a credit card. It really was the cashiers fault ( OK and mine to for not double checking). I see that almost everyone has teh habit of handing you the receipt and the card back at the same time. I had my receipt but she never handed my card back. That should be coming up soon in my TR. :rolleyes:
What a great picture! I am so glad Seth took to the characters. It makes it so much easier for picture-taking. Brooklynn was not afraid or hesitant, either. We didn't have to do the coaxing with her that we have had to do with Bella. We're hoping this coming trip is the one that sees Bella doing things a lot easier.
Cape May breakfast is so good! We had great character fun, too, and it's a 'do again' for us, as well. We're trying to get to every place once, though, or at least almost every place. We repeat some, but when you do that too much, then you can't get new places in. It's tough. ;)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your guys!
Seth's Santa pictures are funny! We haven't taken Lily to see Santa yet. Last year she was still too young (well in my opinion because I'm a germaphob! Of course had to let a lot of that go when she started putting EVERYTHING in her mouth! Lol!) the picture of your family with Minnie is awesome! So glad you got your wallet back. When DH and I went for our first anniversary, I left my camera on Buzz. We went back three times to check for it, waited for the ride to make a whole rotation to look in all the seats, checked with guest services before we left, and nothing. The next morning we checked again and someone turned it in. Neither of us could believe how lucky we go. There are good people out there.
So glad you found your purse. It seems like you hear stories of people finding lost things at Disney more often than at other places. I think it's a combination of their lost-and-found system and honest people (maybe a little bit of Disney magic too) that's to credit for these positive experiences.
Thanks - I like that picture too!
Well, who knows if he will continue to like them or not. I've heard people say their kids loved them as a baby but didn't like them at 2-3 years old and then started liking them again. You just never know with kids! He will be 2.5 when we go back so we shall see! I really hope Bella takes to the characters this time, for everyone's sake! I know how fun it is to watch them enjoy that for everyone and also how fun it is for her when she's not stressed about it and enjoying herself.
Even though our next trip is pretty far off, Cape May breakfast is on my list of possibilities. We really enjoyed it.
Glad to see Seth loving the characters! I understand when you say you would cry if he cried. I'm the same way. You want them to feel the "magic" too. :)
Awesome! I think you'll like it. We did. The only problem we had was something was wrong with the cable box and we didn't get all the channels. But honestly we weren't at the condo very much anyway so it didn't matter. It was very clean and beautifully decorated. And very close to WDW.
I know he's testing me to see what he can get away with and I just don't react to it b/c I don't want him to think screaming and crying over nothing will get a reaction. It's hard!
Oh, I agree about Chef Mickey's - I've never eaten there and I don't have any desire to. I'd rather to go Tusker or Cape May.
Hello! Hope all my American disfriends had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Okay, so when I last updated we had just finished breakfast at Cape May and some kind soul who I will be eternally grateful for had returned my lost wallet.
We decided we wanted to head back to WL to get settled into the room and let Seth have a break before we headed to DHS. Not even 5 minutes after we pulled out of the Beach Club did I turn around and see Seth snoozing. I guess meeting your first Disney characters takes a lot out of a little guy. :goodvibes
Ray drops me and Seth off at the entrance and I put him in the stroller, hoping he'll stay asleep. Of course he doesn't. :rolleyes: We venture off to find our room while Ray parks the car and brings up the first of MANY loads. Have I mentioned how amazing it is that one little person requires so much stuff?
I took these while heading to the room...
I thought the "THIS WAY" signs were cute....
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2393.jpg
I found the hallway our room was located in and I walked and walked....and walked....and walked......AND WALKED. Good gracious, that was a long hallway. We were the VERY LAST room on the right.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2394.jpg
I took a picture later on in the trip of the very long hallway, but I will post it later. And for some odd reason, that hallway was COLD. I mean, frigid! No other area of WL was like that. And even Ray said it was cold, which means it was COLD!!! The man would set our thermostat on 50 if I'd let him!
Our room....
Seth loved the textured walls...he played with them all week!
Ray finally made it up with the first load, at which time he told me to call Bell Services b/c he wasn't hauling the rest of it down the long hallway! :rotfl: He headed back down to pull the car up and get Bell Services to load everything on a luggage cart, and I called to make sure they were going to bring our Garden Grocer order up (which, by the way, was accurate and wonderful) and started unpacking. After we got everything unloaded, we collapsed on the bed/couch while Seth played and explored the room.
Meanwhile, Anna and Luke had left the Beach Club....
And headed back to DHS for the day....
(I'm just going to show all her pictures here b/c I don't know what order they really did anything in and it's kinda silly for me to guess!)
Since I had cancelled our Mama Melrose Fantasmic package, I was able to get them an early dinner at Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant....
I found out later that their dinner there didn't go so well. Anna said they waited a really long time for a table. And then when they were finally seated the service was less than mediocre. Her burger was cold and overcooked. A manager came around to ask if everything was okay and she told him of the issues. He offered a few things for her (FPs to Star Tours, stuff like that) but the only thing they had left to do was see Fantasmic. So he was able to swing getting her VIP seats to the show, where she wouldn't have to wait so long before showtime. :thumbsup2
Back to WL.....
Our original plan had been to head to DHS that day after breakfast, but as I've learned in the past and as I definitely learned on this trip, sometimes you have to throw your plans out the window. Seth just wasn't down for sleeping that day and we were just too plain tired to get on a bus and go to a park. But we did want to do SOMETHING. So we decided we'd just hop on the boat and go to the Magic Kingdom for a couple of hours. That way we wouldn't have to deal with a bus and the stroller, and we could also introduce Seth to our favorite park a couple days before schedule. :thumbsup2
The one problem with this plan is that I had made arrangements to meet up with my friend Lynda (DisneyFreak92) at DHS that day. She and her family live near Orlando now so coming out to Disney on a weekend is easy for them, and this was a Sunday. I texted her and told her of our change of plans. Luckily, she's a sweetie and she said she and her mom and Avery (her little boy who is only a few weeks older than Seth) would just head to MK for the remainder of the day. :yay:
I think it was around 2:00-ish when we started to head to MK. In the elevator, ready to see Mama's favorite place in the world!
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll79/punkin1803/Disney%202011%20-%201/IMG_2413.jpg
:eek: Seriously???
Oh, well. I can't expect too much of him on his first trip. And he hadn't had a "real" nap that day. We had tried to put him down but he wasn't having it in the room. It was then that we figured out he sleeps better in his stroller....I guess b/c there's no temptation to crawl around and play? Every time we'd attempt to nap in the room it wouldn't work. So napping in the stroller it was!
And wouldn't you know it....as we're walking down Main Street I notice people lining up for the parade. Oh, yeah....the parade's at 3:00! I didn't even think about it! :rolleyes:
We decided to get a spot where we were standing (which was surprisingly easy that day) and enjoy it. Seth slept through the entire thing. Music blaring and Mickey Mouse 10 feet away and he was snoozing the entire time! I ended up sort of standing in front of the stroller to block the sun, which was blazing that day, from hitting his legs.
Here's some video first....
