~*~We spent 12 days in Disney World and I can't wait to share all of our fun with you! We were there from September 29-October 10. Just a bit of our fun included MNSSHP, the Food & Wine Festival, and THE Cake Boss!~*~

Darn work is getting in the way of my DIS time. :headache: :rotfl: One of my coworkers had a family emergency so she's out of town for the rest of the week and I filled in for her for a few hours today and with starting my new writing job, I've been busy! I forgot what it's like to work full-time!

Good news is I did receive an e-mail yesterday saying that my photopass CD shipped! :woohoo:

Day 1: Thursday, September 29

The alarm buzzed at 2:45 AM, yes you did read that right, and I jumped out of bed and into the shower. I woke up Greg so he could groggily get ready and then began doing the last minute things like putting toiletries into the suitcase and wiping down the kitchen counters. I woke up my brother, who was driving us to the airport, just a few minutes before we left. Surprisingly, he woke up easily with just me saying his name. Before I knew it and definitely ahead of schedule by around 15 minutes, we were on the way to the airport!

Of course we missed the entrance. I swear they need to put a sign with an arrow that hangs to the right instead of straight! It is so much easier to find if you are heading south down the street instead of the north. That little detour didn’t matter because as soon as we walked into the airport we saw THE LINE. It was about 415 AM and guess what? The Southwest counter doesn’t open until 430 AM! There were at least 100 people in front of us. They wouldn’t even start weaving the line until 430 AM so the line wrapped around and all the way down a corridor. I honestly don’t know why they wait until 430 AM when there are at least 10 flights that leave at or right around 6 AM! Anyway, off of that tangent. We did have our boarding passes and I was surprised by just how many travelers didn’t. By the time we made it through security, where Greg was stopped and his carryon items had to be rescanned, we had just enough time to eat some McDonald’s before boarding. I want to say we had seats in row 2. Greg spent the flight doing the word search and crossword I made for him and I chatted with the lady sitting next to me.

Before I knew it, we were descending into Florida-20 minutes early! Woo hoo!
We decided to yellow tag our luggage (remember that for later) and after using the restroom and riding the mini-monorail we headed to the Magical Express.

Greg managed to snag this photo of our ME bus:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_0990.jpg

After getting giddy at the start of the video, I couldn’t believe it, we were pulling into Pop Century around 1045! Even better, our room was ready! We were in Building 9 so we didn’t have far to walk to the bus stop and it was just a bit farther to the food court, overall it was a great location. It wasn't a king room and Greg and I ended up sleeping in separate beds that night-we are used to a king bed!!!

Greg was going picture crazy on our walk to the main building.

Greg’s birth year:

I was too excited to sleep so we quickly freshened up and headed out for our first meal on property at Everything Pop! Can you say tie dye cheesecake? I was quickly in and out of the line for my food but Greg had to wait for his food for at least 5 minutes and my food was getting cold so I went to pay and began eating while he waited. He finally showed up when I was about half finished with my meal. This meal was the better of the meals we ate at Pop throughout our trip. Unfortunately I only have pictures of my meal and dessert and Greg’s dessert. Greg had a cheesesteak wrap-he really liked it!

I had the Chicken Penne Alfredo. The breading was on a little too thick and wasn’t as crispy as I would have like it to be. The breadstick was warm and soft, though, and there was plenty of sauce-a must for me!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0674.jpg

I don’t know what it is about the tie dye cheesecake that I love so much. It is just really good!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0678.jpg

Worms & Dirt cup for Greg. I had a bite (or two) and I thought it was delicious!

Yay, an update finally! :rotfl:

That's so weird the SW counter doesn't open til 4:30 when there are so many flights at 6, I wonder if people miss their flights because of that.

Glad your room was ready, Pop looks so cute! Brandon and I sleep in separate beds sometimes on vacation, it's nice to have so much space to yourself once in a while!

That penne looks so good, and the tie dye cheesecake looks awesome, I really have to try that someday!

Hey now! It's only been a little more than 2 weeks since we got home! :rotfl:

Nope, we were flying out of Midway. SW doesn't fly out of Ohare. Generally it's a breeze but the counter not opening until an hour and a half before ALL of their first flights of the morning is a big inconvenience.

Yup, it was earrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrly! It ended up being a great idea, though, because the day felt really long. (I guess that's because it was really long. :rotfl:) Our lunch was delicious. They definitely have variety but as you will find out later in the TR it was difficult to choose something sometimes! ;)

Thursday September 29 continued:

After lunch we decided it was time to hit our first park, we were both feeling too excited to take that nap I thought we were both going to need. We decided on Hollywood Studios because Greg helped me reason that this park was one of the places we had the least amount of time planned at (aside from AK, which we both felt we don't need a lot of time at). One of these trips I want to play "bus roulette" and hop on the first park bus that comes. Anyway, we managed to have great timing a bus for DHS showed up right away and in no time we were stepping off from our first Disney bus ride for the trip; it's such a short ride from Pop to DHS. As soon as we entered and went through bag check, we headed straight for Sunset Boulevard.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0685.jpg

We saw the wait for Tower of Terror was 20 minutes.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0681.jpg

See? I told you! Before heading to the queue, we headed over to RnRC to check the wait time. Am I the only one who thinks it would be convenient to also display the wait time before walking all the way back to where the queue starts??? The wait was around 60 minutes if I’m not mistaken so we grabbed some FPs and headed back to TOT. We didn’t wait 20 minutes at all-it was more like 5 including the queue after the preshow. We walked right into the library. It was a great first ride of the trip! “What goes up, must come down!”

We still had some time to kill before our ride to the Aerosmith concert was leaving so we decided to head on over to experience something we’ve never done before; the American Idol Experience!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0683.jpg

We were nearly 30 minutes early for the show so we just hung around for a few moments before the “producer” and a cameraman came out to film, what little of us were there, shouting our “love” for one of the contestants. We then waited a few more minutes before being let into the theatre. It was great to feel the chill of the air conditioner as it was really warm this day! I do have to say that they do a great job of really making you feel like you are watching the real AI live.

When it was over I decided it was time for another first; a stop at the Writer’s Stop!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0688.jpg

What did we get you make ask? Well, the carrot cake cookie of course!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0693.jpg

It was delicious and not very cookie like at all. If you held it in your fingers for too long the cookie part would stick to your fingers. It is also very large for such a sweet treat so it was perfect for Greg and I to share.

I love the quietness of Writer’s Stop, it would be a great place to just hang out for an afternoon; I just wish it was a little bigger so they could have more tables so you wouldn’t feel bad for sitting for too long. Random: All throughout our time there I kept hearing chirping, as in a bird chirping and I saw a little radio across the way so I thought they were piping it in for ambiance for whatever reason but then I noticed just a bit before we left that it was an actual bird in the building! Crazy!

By then, if my memory is correct, our FP time became available so we headed on over to Sunset Blvd. By then the wait time was down to 40 minutes but there’s just something about that queue that makes me feel like I’m not moving. We were able to walk right into the preshow area. Yay! P.S. I love looking at how bright all of the white on your clothes look when you stop right after the ride is over; I know it’s because of the black light so it shouldn’t be that amusing but it is!

By this time, the length of our day was catching up to me so instead of dragging around the park I decided that we would leave and go rest back at Pop. If we happened to make it back to DHS for the evening to watch Fantasmic and eat dinner at Mama Melrose’s we would but if we didn’t we could always go to DTD for dinner.
I think we waited a bit for the bus but it is a quick ride back to Pop and soon Greg and I were both taking a nap.

Up next: Did we make it back to DHS or did we go to DTD?

Awesome! :) The club was all right, but I'm not really a club person and neither's Mike. We went because our friend needed to get out of the house and wanted to have a good time (she had surgery six weeks ago and has basically been housebound since). But yeah, it was insanely loud. We were only there for about two hours and then went back to the friend's place to watch a movie.

I love DHS! We have never bothered with the AI show, but it sounds like it could be fun! I'd have to do it alone if I ever want to see it though, Brandon hates AI!!

Isn't writers stop so cute? I wish it was bigger too!!

Thanks for saying hello and making me feel better about spending the time to write this TR.

I heart the Writer's Stop but then again I love the coffee shop feel in general.

The last time I dressed up for Halloween was when I was a freshman in college. It was kinda fun but I hate spending money on a costume so my solution was really cheap! :rotfl:

So, remember how I said that we yellow tagged our luggage? Well, I was expecting to walk in our room when we got back and find it waiting for us. But guess what we found when we opened the door? No luggage! I honestly can’t say I was surprised. We had a bad experience with the yellow tags on our honeymoon as well.

I instantly was on the phone with luggage services. The CM said they had “No record” or our luggage. What does that mean you ask? It was never scanned in AT THE AIRPORT! That meant a few things, worse case being that they were back in Chicago or ended up on another flight. EEK! He took down our luggage confirmation numbers and promised to call back in a little bit. I was nearly in tears on the phone with him and he could tell because he said he’d have his manager call us.

At this point, I was so happy that I packed everything we needed to get by for the remainder of our day and for the next day as well. Not 5 minutes later, we get a telephone call. “Do you want the good news or the good news?” Our bags were AT POP! I didn’t even question why they weren’t scanned in at the airport OR at Pop because at that point I was just happy that our luggage was close by. It took about 15 minutes but we soon had our bags AND 2 FPs for any attraction in Magic Kingdom thanks to the manager.

Needless to say by the time we were settled down and ready for a little snooze we realized we didn’t have much time to sleep if we wanted to have dinner at Mama Melrose’s. We set an alarm to go off in about 30-45 minutes and I hoped that I wouldn’t be MORE exhausted when it went off.

It definitely was more of a “twilight” sleep for me. The family next door had a fussy baby and I could hear it crying. Ugh! I woke up and felt surprisingly okay so we spent a little time getting ready and headed out to DHS!

We headed straight for the hat when we arrived at the park because Greg was itching to look at the pins. He ended up picking out a medallion to help weigh down his lanyard. I sat on the steps. I was HOT!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0695.jpg

When he was finished we headed toward Mama Melrose’s to check in. It was CROWDED! They were running 40 minutes behind and everyone in line in front of us was NOT happy. One woman was really frustrated because she said she had booked the Fantasmic package but the CM was telling her that wasn’t possible because they don’t seat Fantasmic packages for as late as her reservation was for. Another family tried to walk up and was told they were only honoring reservations. We checked in and left to go get some water.

We headed over to Pizza Planet and Greg went inside to order us some ice water while I sat at a table outside to wait. At this point I saw the family that was frustrated about the Mama Melrose’s reservation getting in line at Pizza Planet; they didn’t want to miss Fantasmic I’m sure! I had a “Meh” attitude about making Fantasmic. If we made it in time, awesome, if not, it was okay.

We were sat at 7, so not quite 40 minutes after our reservation. We waited and waited and waited. Eventually we got our drinks and some bread (which was delicious but could have used some parmesan cheese to go with the oil). He definitely made up for his lack of speed in the beginning because I would barely get halfway done with my lemonade and he’d bring another one! The lighting in Mama Melrose’s isn’t the best but I did manage to get a few pictures.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0698.jpg

Greg had the “Carne d’Italia” pizza and I had the penne alla vodka. The food was great!

Snapped this on the way to Fantasmic:
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0707.jpg

Even though we waited a long while for our server we were out of the restaurant and on our way to Fantasmic by 745. That’s when we heard it…
Fantasmic was already standing room only! That’s okay, we were going to see it! The area wasn’t actually that bad. We were able to sit on a step until it started and the area was staggered so we could see just fine. I was really impressed with the quality of pictures that my camera took:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/DSCN0790.jpg

As soon as Fantasmic was over we headed out and caught the 2nd bus back to Pop and we were dreaming our first dreams in Disney of the trip!

Yay I'm glad everything worked out with your bags, that must have been stressful!

I love Disney resorts, but it seems like no matter where you stay, deluxe or value, the walls are a bit too thin when there is a fussy or crying child nearby! :rotfl:

Mama Melrose always seems like they're backed up, we have eaten there twice and both times it was a pretty long wait to get seated. It's worth it though, I really like the food there! :thumbsup2

Not the same thing, but this is why I always tell my mom to pack a carryon. She finally got the point when they were flying home from Seattle this summer and their connection from Vegas to Chicago was canceled due to weather (remember those horrible rainstorms we had?) and my parents got stuck in Vegas overnight with no luggage because that went ahead to Chicago somehow.

It was very stressful but I wasn't as worked up as I would have been if I hadn't packed what we needed for the next day in our carry-on luggage.

I have a Nikon Coolpix L110, I believe. It is basically a step-up from a pocket digital and a step-below an SLR.

I'm so sorry to hear about the bag drama! I'm so glad it was over for you soon, though. I lost my bags on one flight years ago and I've been paranoid ever since (especially if I'm going overseas where I feel like I couldn't just go to the store and get replacement things). It's a horrible feeling! :guilty:

Your pasta at MM looks really good! I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner there! And wow at the standing room only at Fantasmic! I probably would have just headed back to the hotel, so I'm impressed that you were so determined to see it! :worship:

I think I learned my lesson with the yellow tags; I just don't have luck with them! There's that saying that sort-of applies, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

I was really impressed by the quality of food at MM. It was reallly busy, though. I think I would have enjoyed it even more had we not been scrunched in the waiting area or felt antsy about whether or not we'd make F!

Hi guys! I'm still here. :)

I've been so busy with my new writing job. I work 15 hours a week from home and I also work 14 hours a week at the library; plus any weekend hours I work.

I tried uploading our day 2 pictures on PB but it errored out-twice! :headache: Hopefully I'll have time to try again tomorrow. I'm hoping to get another update up sometime in the next few days. :)

Sorry for the delay. We now return to regular trip reporting. :)

Day 2: Friday, September 30

Knowing how tired we were from our LONG arrival day, I scheduled a wake-up call for 930am. I love to wake up to Stitch saying, “No sleeping”! Anyway, as soon as we were ready, we headed toward the main hall. I filled up our mugs one last time and we found a CM to get us a cab. This poor CM, he expressed his frustration to us at least twice because people we just walking up to the cabs instead of having him get one for them. At one point he said, “Apparently I’m not good enough anymore to get cabs for people”. I actually got a tad upset at him myself because he hailed a cab over for us and a group of women went up to the cab and he opened the doors for them to get in! Hello, that was OUR cab! I didn’t say anything, just exchanged a look with Greg. It wasn’t worth getting outwardly upset about. Once we were settled into the next cab it was a short ride over to the Dolphin.

The first impression of the outside is nothing to be wowed by but the inside is very nice! (I tried uploading a few pictures that I took later in the week to PB but it stopped uploading halfway through. UGH! :headache: I'm not waiting any longer to get this update posted.) I got in line while Greg took a seat with the luggage. I ended up having to run over to him when I was checking us in because they would place a $200 (or some outrageous amount like that) hold on our debit card if we used that to check in. I quickly got our Disney Visa from Greg and once she completed the paperwork, we were told that our room was NOT ready. Oh well, I kind of expected that. We placed our bags in the care of bell services and with a promise of a phone call when our room was ready, we headed to the boats!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1039.jpg

It was around 11am at this point and we had one place in mind! Where were we going you might ask? Well, today was the first official start day of the Food & Wine Fest! Woop! Woop!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/063.jpg

It was a scorcher and I was already sweating and we hadn’t even made it to Epcot yet. We were going to persevere, however, because we wanted to treat our tastebuds to some delicious food! I don’t really have much to add for our walk around the World Showcase. It was crowded and it was hot but we were happy! Here’s some pictures from our selections for that afternoon:

Canada: Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup: (Tasty but I would have preferred to enjoy it on a cooler day.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/056.jpg

Canada: Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta (DELICIOUS!)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/057.jpg

Hawaii: Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise (This was not as good as either of us were anticipating. The strongest flavor we got was from the bun; it definitely could have used more sauce.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/061.jpg

Austrailia: Shrimp on the Barbie (Greg really enjoyed this. I’m not a shrimp person but I tried it and it was pretty good.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/062.jpg

Argentina: Beef Empanada (Horrible! The outside was hard and crunchy and the inside was mushy and had almost a sloppy joe flavor. We tossed most of it. Such a disappointment as we really enjoyed the roasted corn and cheese empanada from here last year!)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/065.jpg

Scandinavia: Rice Pudding with Driscoll’s Only the Finest Berries (Simple. I liked it but I didn’t get it again.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/067.jpg

Scandinavia: Swedish Meatballs with Lingon Berries (Greg LOVED this! I thought it was tasty as well but he seriously still talks about these meatballs!)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/068.jpg

Germany: Nurnberger Sausage in a Pretzel Roll (We both enjoyed it! Greg actually got it again so you know he really liked it!)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/072.jpg

Italy: Ravioli Di Formaggio All’Emiliana (Baked Cheese Ravioli with Creamy Beef Bolognese Sauce, Parmesan Cheese and Melted Mozzarella) (One word: YUM! I got this two more times. Sadly, the first time was the best time.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/073.jpg

France: Coq au Vin sure gratin de macaroni (Red Wine Braised Chicken, Mushrooms, Pearl Onions and Macaroni Gratin) (Yuck! It tasted so strongly of red wine and it was presented in such an unappetizing way. I saw that they had begun using the small aluminum containers (like the one the crème brulee is served in) after this day but I just couldn’t try it again.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/074.jpg

France: Crème Brulee au Chocolate au Lait (Milk Chocolate Crème Brulee) (I had this a total of 3 times and just like the ravioli from Italy, the first time was the best time. The other two times the sugar wasn’t really crystallized on the top and there wasn’t a coating throughout the entire top.)
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/075.jpg

Up next: “What’s that smell?” “What do we see?” and “I’m not bringing our luggage back down one more time!” Otherwise known as time to see our room!

It’s time for check-in at the Dolphin!

At least we were hoping it would be time to check-in! Unfortunately, we hadn’t received the promised telephone call yet. We decided we would just hop on the Friendship boats and head over in hopes that our room was ready. Turns out my phone was not being cooperative and not a few minutes into the ride did it show up that I had a voicemail. Our room was ready! What perfect timing!!

We head over to the front desk and pick up our keys. Our luggage is heavy but that’s okay because soon enough we won’t be moving it for nearly a week-or so we thought. We walk into the second room and we’re overcome by a musty smell. Like carpet that was wet and dirty. Yuck! I open the curtains to see what kind of view we have as we did pay for a resort view after all. Do you know what I see? The roof and a 5 foot cement wall! I wish I would have taken a picture. I was so frustrated! I had Greg call down and after a few minutes on hold they said to come back down and get new keys, they had a lake view room for us. Okay, this sounds good! We get back up to room number 2 and I hurriedly open the curtains to see a big green and white striped awning and the loading zone for the hotel. WHAT?! Sure if you look out straight ahead there’s trees and the street. At this point I’m frustrated but I’m feeling so defeated. Greg calls down again and this time they are going to send up luggage services with the keys. I really hope this room is going to be great because I’m NOT switching again!

We walk into the room and there’s actually no wet, dirty smell. That’s good. Next question, “How’s the view?”

Oh yeah, this is a great view! Finally!

 Ikea; that is SO true! :) I'm sure they taste much better than the ones at Ikea (I wouldn't know, though, as I've never had the ones from Ikea.)

It was really frustrating but I'm happy it worked out in the end. If they hadn't moved us I don't honestly think we'd stay there again. It just would have rubbed me the wrong way. I can't speak for the Swan but I'm sure it's nearly the same as the Dolphin. We really enjoyed the hotel. I never felt like any of the parks (or downtown Disney) were a long bus ride away. We never had any housekeeping problems (never had to tell them to come back later, they always left plenty of towels and the room was always clean). It was nice to have the 2 bottles of water every day. The food court wasn't great but it had a decent selection. However, the Fountain was fantastic (they have shakes, burgers, etc. ). The bed was seriously the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in on vacation. I slept so well every night. The room was always cold enough (our room was never cold enough at Pop). I loved the feel of it as well. It was very modern without being overly done. I LOVED the pool area. There was 3 pools to choose from and they had a pool bar area that you could order food and drinks from. Staff went around taking drink orders and I could get water with lemon from the bar for no charge. It was really relaxing! For the price ($169/night and we had one night free and a $100 resort credit) it was fantastic and DEFINITELY comparable to the actual Disney owned deluxe resorts (we did stay at GF last year) and it was only a fraction of the price.

Hope my little (or long? :rotfl:) review helped you!

I can't believe you had to switch rooms so many times, that's so annoying! :sad2: Glad you finally got a great view! Look how close ToT looks!

Yeah, it was pretty annoying and Greg was getting annoyed with me by the end for just not sticking with what we had in the first place. You should have seen him snapping pictures once we were in our final room, though! :lmao:

When we last left off we were just finished getting settled into our room at the Dolphin. We didn’t linger too long because we wanted to get to MNSSHP!

We waited over 25 minutes for a bus! We must have counted 3 AK buses and at least 1 of every other. Something neat did occur when we were waiting at the bus stop, however; we had another person come up to us and compliment us on our shirts. I can’t wait to wear them again next time we go for MNSSHP!

When we got to MK, we rode space and only waited in line for 10 minutes! We then rode IASW which was less than 10 minutes, Splash with a 20 minute wait and then we took a break and had a Dole whip. Yummmm….

As soon as we were finished we headed back over to Splash to get in line for the 7 Dwarves. We were there at 615 and we were probably 50 people back! YIKES! This is definitely an effect of the sold out party. It was a cast member discount night so I saw many CP kids and the man in front of us worked for the Contemporary. We also hadn’t even thought about dinner so Greg went to find food and came back with a corn dog and popcorn. We also passed the time by going through the candy line in the Splash queue; they actually rope off that part of the queue from the actual line for the ride as I’m sure the line for Splash never gets long enough during the parties to utilize it.

At 730 we were finally smiling for this:
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/387034_10100339985827700_22913280_51463229_4542312 92_n.jpg

I was expecting a pretty non-existent line for the photo op with the Cinderella carriage but there was actually a line so we booked it over to the Villains show. It was a pretty neat show but honestly, I don’t mind skipping the castle stage shows so I could take it or leave it. We stood all the way to the left so we could grab this picture quickly:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/299110_10100339985947460_22913280_51463231_1203478 450_n-1.jpg

Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to get a picture with any other villain as they are only out for a short time; no exceptions!

Oh! I think I snagged this photo while walking to the Villains show.
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/105.jpg

I knew Greg would love to have a picture with Genie so we headed over to that photo op in hopes that he would be one of the Aladdin characters to come out! We were the only adults without children in line for a picture and I felt a little out of place. Oh well, what do I expect traveling as a couple in WDW? I shouldn’t be embarrassed, I should be proud! Haha…

After that we were able to finally get a picture with the carriage but the photographer wasn’t very good and the image came out a bit blurry. Oh well…
At this point it was time for Hallowishes so we headed toward the hub to wait. I loved loved LOVED the music for this show! Greg did too; he even came home and downloaded the music to his iPod!

So we were quickly done with that and headed to Liberty Square to find a spot for the parade. There’s not as much space here but we found a spot for the two of us fairly quickly and I must say that I loved our spot! It was kiddie corner from the Country Bear Jamboree, right in front of a garbage can. I didn’t love our spot as much as I loved the parade, though. OMG! Best parade I’ve ever seen in Disney, hands down!!!

Here’s the headless horseman. I had read reports that he wasn’t really moving too fast but he was definitely trotting at a quick pace! I wasn’t able to get a decent picture but Greg got a good one, I think.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/121.jpg

My favorite part of the entire parade was the Haunted Mansion themed stuff. They had the old man and the dog, grave diggers doing a little choreographed bit, the dancers and the hitchhiking ghosts on a float!

We made the mistake of heading over to the Haunted Mansion as soon as the parade ended. I say mistake because apparently that was everyone’s plan.

We obviously skipped the cemetery in lieu of waiting less and it worked!

Everyone was going through the cemetery. We probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it much anyway.

I don’t think we took these pictures at this point in the night and my memory is foggy as to when we did take them but they seem fitting to show here.

It was nearly midnight at this point so we walked through Fantasyland and Tomorrowland to stop at any candy stations we saw before heading out for the night. We had quite a haul of candy!!!

We waited only 5 minutes for a bus and spent the ride discussing whether or not we were going to get up for the 40th anniversary festivities at MK in the morning.

Up next: Did we make it to the Magic Kingdom or did we choose sleep?

Great update! I love all of your pictures from the party. The one of the headless horseman is great! I really, really hope to make it down to Disney during the fall next year. I so want to do MNSSHP! Can't wait to hear if you went to the 40th anniversary festivities! :goodvibes

I love the fall in Disney World so much that it's hard to go at any other time. However, I actually would like to go in the spring. I think we'd enjoy the TS dining more b/c the food and wine fest wouldn't be there.

Naturally, I woke up at around 830. It basically gave us enough time to get ready and head to the Magic Kingdom if we got it together with lightning speed. Which, of course, we attempted. We were out the door around 9am. There were A TON of people waiting by the bus stop. After a few minutes people starting walking away and getting into cabs. Then more people did. After the third family got into a cab I said, “That’s it! If I miss this presentation b/c of a dumb bus, I’m going to flip my lid!” (Okay, so maybe I actually didn’t say it like that but that’s how I felt at the moment.) We grabbed a taxi ourselves and were on our way. (I do want to note that the taxis at the Dolphin are white town cars and I actually think they charge you more than the Mears taxis. We spent $20 or so to be dropped off at the TTC.

We then had a choice…monorail or ferry? We choose Ferry as it looked like less people were heading that way. Here is where we saw the first signs of Disney celebrating. There were balloons tied to various places around the area and they had chalk out near the ferry entrance so people could write congratulatory messages.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/147.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/148.jpg

I’m actually really glad we took the ferry. It was a beautiful day and we got to enjoy the scenery.

Oh, Poly! I hope to stay here someday!

Reminiscing about our stay here last year:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/150.jpg

Hi, Greg!:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/151.jpg

Here is what we were waiting to see:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/156.jpg

We SLOWLY disembarked and headed through the turnstiles. Time? 9:50AM!
Yeah baby! We were handed 40th anniversary buttons (which apparently they ran out of fairly quickly as people continuously asked us where we got the buttons) and walked into the madness.

We asked a group of people if they knew what was going on as there were people standing in front of the train station and they said that it was going to start there. We found a spot and within moments the festivities were starting.
The “mayor” and citizens of Main Street USA came out and made an announcement about joining the procession up Main Street to the castle and before I knew it characters were coming down:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1101.jpg

It was really crowded and we should have headed up Main Street ahead of the procession but we really had no idea what was going on. We were able to squeeze up as far as we could get and unfortunately we had a horrible view but we were there!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/171.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1102.jpg

The president and vice president made a speech. There was a sing along to “When you wish upon a star” and that was nice except I had someone who felt the need to sing with vibrato really loud behind me and it kinda ruined it.
There was a few fireworks at the end and these streamers were released:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1103.jpg

We then attempted to find the cupcakes and got in line at:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/178.jpg

It was a really long line and everybody around us were standing in line for the cupcakes but we found out after about 10 minutes that they weren’t going to be out until 12. Ugh! We needed something to eat so we stayed in line and got:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/179.jpg

And:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/180.jpg

That was when we saw someone with the 40th cupcakes. They were at the confectionary. I zoomed down there only to hear right as I was getting in line that they were out. UGH! I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

It was beyond crowded and I wasn’t feeling waiting in long lines to ride the attractions so we headed out of the park and decided to spend our afternoon by the pool at the Dolphin.

Up next: What did we decide to do for the evening?

Hello, anyone out there?! Jeesh, I don't have very many readers....

Oh well, I'm not a quitter, I'll continue this TR even if I'm the only one reading it! :lmao:

Saturday, October 1: Part 2

We spent the afternoon relaxing pool side. I did some reading and thanks to Greg’s tablet we snagged ourselves a reservation for that night to the Grand Floridian Café. I had read great reviews in the past and I know it’s not a TS location that often is crowded. Back to talking about the Dolphin; I have to say that I loved the location of the laundry room in regards to the pool. The laundry was located on the ground floor just a bit away from the doors out to the pool area. It made it easy to do laundry (multiple times). I had a much better experience with doing laundry at the Dolphin than the GF, actually. Unfortunately, I didn’t snag any pictures of the pool area but it was really nice.

As soon as we felt rested, we headed back up to our room to get ready for the evening. We actually were ready to go early for our dinner reservation and we decided just to try to get seated. If not, we’d go somewhere else because we had decided to try to see the fireworks at MK.

We took a bus to the MK and then the resort boat to the GF.
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/182.jpg

Greg went to go check us in and they said it would be about 15-20 minutes but as soon as we sat down in the lobby to listen to the piano player, we were called in!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/183.jpg
Our meal was absolutely DELICIOUS!

We started with warm rolls and butter, mmm. I loved the ones with the raisins in them!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/186.jpg

Greg and I both chose the same thing for our entrée; the NY strip with red bliss mashed potatoes, haricot verts and red wine sauce. OMG! It was so flavorful! I was in heaven.
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/187.jpg

I actually wasn’t too impressed with the desserts. I do love the Mickey chocolate on Greg’s, though!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/189.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/190.jpg

After we were full of delicious food we headed via the very CROWDED monorail to the MK:
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/191.jpg

(I noticed in this picture that Greg still had a lot of the pins he brought to trade on. This was obviously before he started me on the run around Disney World trying to find certain pins. :rotfl:)

I told Greg to go on ahead and find us a good spot to wait while I went to the restroom. He ended up finding us a spot in front of Casey’s along the Main Street side and even though we hadn’t intended to watch the electrical parade again, we did; just so that when it ended we had a great opportunity to go right in the hub with a view of the center of the castle.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/207.jpg

I was happy with our spot…
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/192.jpg

The fireworks weren’t anything special, really. They just added some perimeter ones at the end (like they do in Hallowishes) and IMO Hallowishes was more spectacular. I do love me some Wishes, though!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/217.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/215.jpg

Oh my goodness was it MADNESS trying to get anywhere after the fireworks were over. We took our time and moved with the flow of the crowd that was heading towards Tomorrowland. Some people were VERY pushy and I just didn’t understand it. We’re all trying to go to the same place, there’s no room to cut anyone off so just be PATIENT. Anyway…

We used some Space Mtn. FPs, went on BTMRR (using our “special” FPs we got back at Pop for the luggage issue), rode Splash again and then used some more Space FPs (thinking about it now, where did we get 2 sets from? Haha); the FP line was nearly just as long as the standby line and I was NOT happy. Oh well, we made it on in about 25 minutes or so and were soon enjoying this from the MS Bakery:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1167.jpg

Needless to say, Greg and I were arguing over who was taking bigger bites. LOL!

After finishing that, it was just about closing time so we headed on back to the bus stop and were dreaming Disney dreams once again.

Ugh, that's been happening to me too the past couple of days! Last night, I actually had the DIS open on Safari and Opera, and whichever one would open first, I'd read a TR and post...it was a little insane. Tonight seems to be a bit better, but it's still really slow! And I need to reply to comments on my TR, and I feel like it's going to take forever when I am going to try to post! Ugh!

I haven't had much DIS time this week, but luckily I have some time this morning. :thumbsup2

Looks like MNSSHP was crowded! I had read that about a lot of the parties & was worried for MVMCP but luckily we either went early enough (we were at the 2nd party) or it just isn't as popular because our party wasn't crowded at all.

And it was certainly crowded on the 40th! :scared1: Sorry about the bus situation... I've read plenty of complaints about the buses from the Epcot resorts. Luckily we didn't have any trouble with buses when we were at BWV last month but when I was at BWI with my friend last year, we had a couple long waits for buses.

Can't wait to hear about your visit to the dark side!

Sunday, October 2 or as DisMomAmy pointed out, our “visit to the dark side”!

We were in the lobby of the Dolphin around 730a.m. We bought some coffee and a couple of muffins while we waited for the car rental desk to open. As soon as we saw someone behind the desk, we bolted over and within minutes we had our car! (I wish I remember to take a picture of it, it was a PT Cruiser!)

The GPS actually worked! (GASP!) We were at Universal within about 15-20 minutes.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/219.jpg

The garage was so EMPTY! We had to wait around 15 minutes before we could enter the park as it didn’t open until 9a.m. As soon as it did open, we were through and heading towards The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! It is allllllll the way in the back of the park. (Remember that for later.)

Finally, we’re there!
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1178.jpg

We didn’t really ooh and ahh when we entered the area as I wanted to get to Hogwart’s castle ASAP.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1171.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/226.jpg

They did an IMPECABLE job on the theme in the castle. We should have gone slower and took pictures, though. The wait for the ride? There was no wait, it was a walk-on. Want to know how it was? NEVER AGAIN! Holy motion sickness! You are literally thrown around. (It’s no wonder some larger guests won’t fit, they can’t make all the seats wider because smaller people might fall out or bang your head on the sides!) It goes between a video clip and then real-life objects. Closing my eyes didn’t work nor did keeping them open. I just remember hoping to God that it was going to end soon so I could get OFF before I tossed my cookies!

As soon as we disembarked, I headed for a seating area and stayed put for over 45 minutes until I felt well-enough to get up and move around.
This is where we sat. It actually was a pretty neat area, there were clocks and “owls”.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/227.jpg

We then decided to go through the shops and we saw that we could send postcards that have an owl post stamp. (Not a postage stamp, just the red stamp that the post office usually puts on there.) We found the postcards and purchased one. I then inquired about getting a stamp. Well, if I wanted to buy a package of Harry Potter themed stamps I could purchase them right there. Um, I just want one! Those? Oh, there’s a machine-AT THE FRONT OF THE PARK! Bummer!

We went into Honeydukes and purchased some candy (including a chocolate wand for DSIL). We sent that to the front of the park so we didn’t have to worry about it melting.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/234.jpg

We decided at this point that now was as good of a time as any to walk back to the front of the park for that stamp.

When we got back to the WWoHP, we walked around and explored a little.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/242-1.jpg

It’s kind of disappointing that you can’t really go into any of the shops (they’re fake) but the they did a good job of portraying everything correctly. Honestly, I expected it to be a little “grander”. Don’t get me wrong it is pretty spectacular but on TV they make the area seem so large and it’s really not. I’m glad we visited but I’m not eager to get back.

We couldn’t leave the area without getting a butterbeer! Frozen, please! YUM!!!

It was lunch time at this point so we popped into the Three Broomsticks. Greg’s chicken dish was delicious but my Shepard’s Pie was BLECH. Instant potatoes and sloppy joe mixed with some frozen veggies-or at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it was.

Sorry to hear that you felt so ill after Forbidden Journey! I don't get motion sickness, but I can definitely see how the ride would be a problem for those that do!

I agree that the whole Harry Potter area isn't as big as they make it seem, and it doesn't take long to take it all in.
The stores that aren't real still have some pretty cool window displays, though!

Thanks for sharing about the WWOHP! I honestly have no interest in going to Universal. Both hubby and I are Pooh sized and his concern over fitting into rides was a major reason he didn't want to go to WDW the first time. I have heard that Universal is not so forgiving and hubby would never forgive me if I put him in that situation of not fitting.

Subbing! Sooo curious on your experience at Universal. DH and I went about 10 years ago and have not gone back since. Its fine, IF we had never gone to Disney - something about US is just off to us. The lines don't move as well, the rides seem a little disappointing, and the food is nowhere near as good.

BUT I keep wondering if we should go back because of HP.... I'm a fan (DH is not) ... we do Disney twice a year - is it worth giving up a Dis day for a US day????

Great TR!!! Can't wait to hear more!

The first time I rid Forbidden Journey I felt so, so sick; it took my stomach about an hour to settle afterwards. I hadn't had a proper breakfast that day as we'd been in such a rush to ride it before the wait time rocketed, I plucked up the courage to ride again later in my trip and made sure I had something more substantial to eat and I loved it. It's up there with my favourite rides. I hope you give it another bash if you ever visit Universal again!

Oh, I loved the window displays! I think that maybe those small details (like Hermione's dress in that one window) weren't as impressive to me b/c a couple (few???) years ago a Harry Potter display came to the Museum of Science and Industry here in Chicago and there it was filled with all sorts of props from the movie. It was really neat!

As you can see from the pictures, my hubby and I are larger as well (me more so than him now that he's lost quite a bit of weight) and I can tell you that I JUST fit into the seat. If it would have been a couple inches smaller I wouldn't have been able to ride. In fact they asked DH and I to switch seats so that I was on the end. (I guess the ones on the end are bigger.)

I'll share more about Universal in general (and more about rides) once I do my next post. :)

I know EXACTLY how you feel! There is no comparison to Disney and Universal. I don't even understand how people can say they like Universal better?! :scared1:

If you're only interested in WWoHP, go for the morning. You can be back to WDW by the afternoon. If you don't usually rent a car, do so for the day. Get to IoA right when it opens, spend a couple hours in WWoHP and then leave. I know that seems like a big waste of money but the rest of IoA and all of Universal leave A LOT to be desired. (Go to the outlet malls to get cheap Disney World merchandise and get lunch afterword while you still have the car.)

Can your DH ride Mission Space? I rode on green back in 2006 and I still felt a little woozy. I'm fine on every other Disney ride, however. (Well, I haven't done Star Tours.) DH gets mild motion sickness and even he didn't feel very well after riding the Forbidden Journey.

Sunday, October 2 (Cont.):

When I last left off, we had just left WwoHP and we’re ready to explore the rest of the park. I hadn’t really made a touring plan for this day. I just thought we’d walk through the park and see what caught our eyes.

We approached the Jurassic Park water ride and decided to get in line. It was a ton of fun and I like it so much better than Dinosaur in AK (IMO). We did get pretty soaked, though. There was one point in the ride where I made fun of Greg b/c a dinosaur spit water in his face but not 30 seconds later a dinosaur did the same to me! LOL Who showed who?!

Once we got off the ride I noticed I had a text message from my dad letting me know that my brother had been in a car accident. I immediately called him to get the details. My brother and 2 friends were out cruising through the farm roads near my dad’s house (my parent’s live in a town that is surrounded by a pretty rural area) and were hit by a car. My brother got knocked out and broke his arm and his friend that was sitting behind him was knocked out and had to get stitches in his face. The friend sitting in the passenger seat was okay because the car had impacted on the driver’s side rear tire. My brother got really lucky! After settling down from that news, we continued to tour the park.

Actually, we just ended up walking right on through the rest of the park as nothing really interested us. I just don’t care to ride Spiderman or the Hulk. To me, IoA was just a step up from Six Flags and ten steps down from Disney World.

I actually didn’t even really want to go to Universal but Greg wanted to ride the Simpsons attraction so we trekked over there.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/262.jpg

My first impression was okay. They had the Simpsons characters out for a meet & greet but unfortunately they weren’t letting anyone else in the line.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/263.jpg

We headed toward the Shrek movie but once I saw the sign about motion sickness I opted out and Greg decided he didn’t want to go, either. After the Forbidden Journey I wasn’t taking any chances!

So instead, we headed toward the Simpsons attraction and that is when I started to notice just how deserted the parked look. I’m not talking about the crowds at the park, either. There were SO MANY food stands closed. I was not impressed.

Greg got in line and the wait time said 15 minutes. Not bad.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/270.jpg

I decided to find somewhere to get a sweet treat and I eventually decided on a root beer float. It was pretty generic but I enjoyed it while I waited and waited and waited for Greg. 45 minutes later he appeared! Man, that was a long 15 minutes!!!

We walked through the park and didn’t end up riding anything else at this park either.

We were, however, paid $15 each to watch an episode of the Office and complete a survey afterward. Score! It’s some area they have that gathers people’s opinions on new shows and even though the Office isn’t new I think they wanted opinions on how it might do without Steve Carrell.

We left pretty much right after that. I just wasn’t in the mood to be at Universal anymore. It just doesn’t compare to Disney World. There are not enough attractions that interest me there. I know probably some of you are thinking that it was a waste of $$ to go and only ride a few attractions but the main reason we went to Universal was to see the WWoHP and we also redeemed our debit card reward points for a free day in Universal (for both of us) so we actually didn’t pay to get into the park. If our future children love Dr. Seuss, Harry Potter or comic book heroes we may go back. Until then, we’ll stick with what we know we love, Disney World!

Up Next: I realllllllllly hate the GPS and Downtown Disney!

Okay, I’m back with another update! We’ve been home over 2 months and I still have A LOT more to share with you! I hope everyone’s Christmas was wonderful! We spent lots of time with family and ate SO MUCH yummy food. I even got a Mickey necklace from my DMIL and DFIL! It is an outline of Mickey’s head and has pale colored gems all around it. I love it! I also was able to add Dumbo, Lion King and Finding Nemo to our Disney DVD collection! Anyway…

*Title of TR explained in this post.*

(Sorry there aren’t very many pictures in this update.)

When I last left off we were heading out of Universal. The plan was to head to a Disney outlet store before going to DTD for dinner and more shopping. That WAS the plan. It did not work out that way at all. Greg and I had an awful time with the GPS. It said the address for the outlet mall we wanted to go to didn’t exist and I THOUGHT I found the outlet mall by searching on the GPS but it wasn’t right. We drove in so many different directions, I was getting very upset and poor DH was having to deal with my stress and driving in an unfamiliar area. We eventually made it to the outlet mall only it wasn’t the outlet mall that we had gone to last time. This store was not as good. I still managed to find a few things, however. It wasn’t a complete dud. That entire situation just put a really big damper on our mood.

At this point we decided to return the car. The GPS had no problem getting us back onto Disney property and we knew better than to listen to the GPS to get us back to the Dolphin so we followed the signs but accidentally turned into the Epcot parking entrance area and the nice CM (He must be so used to people saying “Oops!”) directed us in the right direction and we were filling up the gas tank and getting rid of the car VERY happily! Our personalities just don’t mesh well when it comes to getting lost. This is why we know that we don’t choose to rent cars on vacation very often.

Once we got back into the room we both took a little breather and freshened up for DTD. We headed down to the bus stop and a DTD bus showed up right away! We were at DTD very quickly and we decided to head over to Portobello for dinner.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/273.jpg

They said it would be about 20 minutes so I went outside to have a look around and I wasn’t 50 feet from the entrance before our buzzer went off! Our service was quick, which I liked. I feel like Disney servers always have the best intentions but they often forget about us. This restaurant wasn’t on the DDP but I recently read that in 2012 it is being added to the list.

Unfortunately I don’t have any food pictures. People weren’t really taking pictures around me and it didn’t seem like the type of place that you would take pictures of your food. Oh well! The food was pretty good! Nothing memorable, however.

Once we were finished with dinner we just browsed through the stores. We didn’t make very many purchases. We stopped to listen to a band playing near Portobello and Fulton’s and it was nice. They played Canon in D, which is the song I walked down the aisle to so it brought back some great memories and was much needed after the stressful time DH and I had with driving that day.

This night I would say is when DH’s pin trading got taken to a whole new level. He noticed the “Hidden Mickey” pin collections in the display cases and that was the end of it. Holy Moly! The next week would consist of me turning to the side to say something to DH and him not being there b/c he had a “CM with pins radar” device (not really but certainly felt like it) and would go up to each and every one of them to check for the pins he needed! Now you understand the title of my TR.

Before heading out we did stop at Goofys Candy Co for these bad boys:

Monday, October 4:

This morning we had an ADR for Boma-but we slept in instead! Saturday and Sunday were both eventful days so we definitely got some much needed rest! We still we going to head to AK as originally planned, though. We just missed an AK bus and I felt like we waited an awfully long time before another one came along. Oh well, I guess that’s Disney transportation for you…

As soon as we got to AK we headed to FTBBQ for some lunch. The new queue is great I think it helps with keeping the lines pretty even during the lunch rush. It was such a yummy lunch, too! We both had the pulled pork sandwich and we split an order of onion rings.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/282.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/283.jpg

Funny story about lunch: I was carrying the tray and Greg went to go find us seats and set our drinks down. I called him over to help me b/c there wasn’t a lot of room for me to place my tray down and still get the napkins, etc. Well in that short time frame a family came along and one of the children with them was just a second away from taking a sip of my lemonade! That certainly doesn’t happen every day.

After lunch we headed over to Asia to grab some FPs for EE. We then trekked it over to FOTLK and I had to stop for a Mickey premium ice cream bar even though I was still full from lunch. I love that chocolate coating! YUM!
FOTLK has to be one of my favorite things to experience in WDW. I’ve seen Broadway in Chicago shows that weren’t as good.

As soon as FOTLK was over we walked back over to EE to use our FPs. Then we walked over to the Flights of Wonder show.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/303.jpg

It wasn’t an attraction that was necessarily high on my list but it was something we hadn’t done before. I found myself laughing out loud several times. It really was interesting. They made it informational without being boring. I think we’d skip it the next time or two but I wouldn’t hesitate to see it again in the future.

Somewhere along the way we ran into DeVine:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/295.jpg

We stopped to get a frozen blue raspberry fanta and a jalapeno cheese pretzel and we found a bench to sit on.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/308.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/307-1.jpg

We then decided it was about time to head out. We stopped to look at our PPass pictures so far and while I was in the restroom a CM told Greg about the pin STROLLERS. Oh dear. Just what he needed. Another excuse for a pin stop!

We weren’t in our room long before we headed out to the Poly for dinner at Kona.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/309.jpg

We got there early and we only waited around 15 minutes. We had a sllllllllllllllow server. She was busy but she clearly neglected our table for a good 10-15 minutes. We each chose the pre fix menu and our appetizers too forever to be served. We were, of course, one bite into our appetizers when…

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/313.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/314.jpg

...our entrees arrived. The runner saw our full plate and bowl and took them back. When they were brought out we were both less than impressed. The macadamia and coconut coating on my chicken was overdone. I barely ate half.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/315.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/316.jpg

The best part of the meal was dessert and it wasn’t even that good!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/317.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/318.jpg

The verdict on Kona for us is a no go. I just think we haven’t had the best service/food quality while we were there. I don’t think we’ll be going there again anytime soon.

Once we were (finally) done with dinner we headed over to the monorail so that we could go to MK for EMH. The monorail attendant struck up a conversation between Greg and I about Saturday (the 40th anniversary) and we were all in agreement that the fireworks were not anything spectacular. It’s always nice to chat with CM’s.

Once we go to the MK we went over to the Laugh Floor and Greg got chosen to be Mike in their little story. It was funny! I took Greg on the CoP b/c it was something he hadn’t done before and I wanted the song to get stuck in his head. (I’m so nice!)

We then went to the Tiki Room and…

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/319.jpg

I DID NOT LIKE IT. Soooo boring! Perhaps if I had some nostalgia toward it or was younger but I don’t think I could watch it again for a very long time!

By the time we made it over to Pirates it was time to bust out the KTTW cards and guess what? Greg forgot his! UGH! Seriously, didn’t he remember how upset I got last October when he lost his KTTW card in AK? Luckily this experience was a lot better and the CM gave him a “FP” that really just had printed that he was okay to get into every attraction during EMH that night. Crisis averted!

We were pretty pooped by now so we headed down Main Street, making a pit stop to get ice cream sundaes and we went to “our” spot in the little alcove. We saw CM’s heading back stage and I tried to strain my neck to see anything interesting but all I saw was an ice machine. Whoop de doo…
We probably waited 30 minutes for a bus. Ugh! At least the bus driver was really friendly but there was some rude people making comments about how they wish he would just shut up. Made me sad. You’re in Disney after all!

We were dreaming Disney dreams before we knew it!

Greg and I drove to Tennessee last spring and we had no problems...until we were about an hour from home. Our car started making this AWFUL sound, like something was dragging. I made Greg get off at a rest stop and he was NOT happy b/c he just wanted to continue driving! It ended up being the plastic piece from underneath the car-nothing serious but we had to get off the main highway and drive on the side road back to our house. That was NOT fun. :sad2:

I had the same experience with Flights of Wonder. I found myself really impressed with the show, which I didn't expect! Sorry to hear you had a similar experience with Kona as well. Your meal sounds exactly like ours - poor service, and the dessert was the only decent thing. We won't be going back either.

The pulled pork sandwich actually has no BBQ sauce on it. You can put it on yourself from the condiment station they have if you'd like. The sandwich itself was so moist and delicious that it didn't really need it. Yum...

It was never a meal that I was particularly looking forward to it but many people here on the boards really enjoy it so I didn't want to miss out. Turns out that I would have rather missed it. Oh well, not everyone restaurant is going to appeal to everybody.

Tuesday October 4:

We rescheduled our Boma reservation for this morning and we were determined to go! We were up BEFORE the 8am wakeup call.

We were still 10 minutes late, though. (We decided not to take a cab in lieu of saving some $$$-remember that for just a bit later.) We took a boat over to DHS and a bus to AKL. The bus to AKL took FOR-EV-ER! After 25 minutes Greg went to the info. desk and the CM said he would take care of it. Not 5 minutes later did a bus finally show up. On our way to the Jambo house the bus driver almost blew a stop sign and SLAMMED on his brakes. I was NOT happy.

The delicious breakfast made up for the stress of getting to Boma. I ate way too much food! Sorry I didn't take any photos.

To get back to the Dolphin we decided to get on an AK bus and take that to the Dolphin. We should have taken the DHS bus b/c 2 of those showed up in the time we spent waiting for an AK bus. After 15 minutes I was getting frustrated (partly b/c of our difficulty getting to Boma earlier in the morning) and we took a cab back to the Dolphin. The cab driver definitely took a scenic route b/c DH and I both saw the Epcot sign that we turned at on Sunday to get back to the Dolphin. He definitely wasn’t given an exuberant tip.

We decided just to spend time at the pool this afternoon. I did some more laundry, too. I even took a nap!

We headed to Epcot in the late afternoon for some more Food & Wine fun for dinner!

First, however, we visited the “Cave” in the Mexican pavilion.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/321.jpg

It was something I had wanted to do for a while now. It was quite busy but we managed to find a table for 2. We both ordered margaritas and an order of guacamole and chips to split. I had the blood orange margarita and Greg had the pineapple if I remember correctly.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/323.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/324.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/325.jpg

How I would love to just waste away a few hours here, drinking margaritas, enjoying delicious appetizers and laughing with friends! We didn’t linger too long, however. There were plenty of people waiting for a table and I didn’t want to “wear out our welcome”.

We made a pit stop at Test Track to grab a couple of FPs.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/334.jpg

Since we knew we weren’t ready to continue our feasting around the world just yet, we headed over to see Figment.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/333.jpg

We both have never done it before. I didn’t think it was anything special and I think we can safely say we won’t do it again next trip. We spent some time exploring the interactive area they had once you got off of the attraction.

Then, we headed back over to Test Track at this point. We kissed for the PPass picture and when we were scanning the picture to our card we heard some “Awwws” from other visitors.

As soon as we were finished with Test Track, we were ready to eat! We really didn’t stop at too many places b/c it was SO crowded! We still sampled a lot of delicious food and perhaps some that weren’t quite to our taste.
Caribbean Islands: Ropa Vieja (Braised Beef) with White Rice

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/326.jpg

This was one of my favorite items from all of the booths. The flavor is out of this world. The meat was juicy and had just the right amount of spice. The rice wasn’t gummy at all.

Also Caribbean Islands: Jerk spiced Chicken Drumstick with Mango Salsa

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/327.jpg

While the chicken was good, I let Greg eat my share of this. It just didn’t have a wow factor. I didn’t care for the mango salsa but Greg enjoyed dipping the drumstick into the salsa.

China: Caramel-Ginger Ice Cream

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/328.jpg

This was barely edible. It was frozen. I wish it would have been freshly scooped instead of individually frozen. We each took a few bites but tossed the majority of it.

South Korea: Lettuce Wraps with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/329.jpg

This was one of my favorite items from last year. I wasn’t as impressed this year. There was something different about it and I can’t put my finger on it.

Also South Korea: Boolgogi BBQ Beef with steamed Rice and Kimchi

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/330.jpg

Greg insisted on trying this. While the BBQ beef was pretty good the rest wasn’t to my taste.

Greece: Griddled Greek Cheese with Pistachios and Honey

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/337.jpg

I waited probably 5 minutes for this item-which is the longest I waited for any item all trip-and I wasn’t impressed. I think it could have been cooked a little longer. The crispy edges were delicious but the rest was just this hard mass of cheese and it was difficult to eat. We tossed most of it.

We also had something from:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/331.jpg

Seared Filet of Beef with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/332.jpg

Eh, I had this last year and didn’t like it. I had it this year and didn’t like it either.

Desserts & Champagne: White Chocolate Macadamia Mousse with Dark Chocolate Pearls

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/335.jpg

That picture makes it look about 10 times bigger than it actually was. It was maybe 2 teaspoons full. Not anything spectacular and not worth getting again.

We decided just to leave and walked back to the Dolphin through the boardwalk. It was such a nice walk and I took some great pictures.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/340.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/343.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/346.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/348.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/350.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/351.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/356.jpg

We made it back to our room and were able to watch Illuminations from our window.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/363.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/368.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/370.jpg

That was cool! I wish we had a balcony but then again, we wouldn’t have been so high up.

After Illuminations was over we headed down to the food court (Picabu, I believe it’s called) of the Dolphin and I got some chicken tenders and fries.

They weren’t anything spectacular. Greg went back down to get me ranch after we had taken the food back up to our room. I barely ate half before throwing it away.

Another Disney day done but don’t worry there’s still 5 more full days of fun still to come!

Up Next: Will we manage to get TSM FPs even with a late wakeup?

Transportation stories like yours are why I am so glad that we drive so that we can get ourselves around. It's nice sometimes to take the buses so that we don't have to drive, but I hate waiting - I like to be on my own timeframe! :lmao:

I love your evening Boardwalk pictures! I am determined to finally get over to there on our upcoming trip. How neat that you had such an amazing view of Illuminations from your room!

I hear ya with the transportation! However, I don't want to worry about remembering where I parked my car and we all know by now how well Greg and I do driving together in unfamiliar territories... :lmao:

Thanks, I am really happy with how they came out. You HAVE to get over there! The sound of the floorboards underneath your feet, the architecture of the buildings and the lighting make the boardwalk area a great experience. :) Although, I still wish Spoodles was there instead of Kouzzina!

Wednesday October 5, 2011

I have to admit, our trip was more than half over at this point and I was getting sad-but no worries because I didn’t let it affect my mood! :sad2:

Before we went to sleep we both agreed that we would like to make RD at DHS for the TSM dash. Yeah, we woke up at 9 AM! I even have written in caps in my notes, “THOSE DARN BLACKOUT DRAPES!”

When we got to the park, I sent Greg for FPs for TSM and I went to Starring Rolls to grab us some breakfast.

Starring Rolls is such a great place! Their iced coffee is delicious and their pastries taste so fresh, it was a great start to the day. :cloud9:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/373.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/374.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/375.jpg

As soon as we finished eating, we headed over to the Art of Animation and we saw the show this time. Eh, nothing special. We then headed to the classes and we did 3 in a row! I really love that class.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/376.jpg

We were able to experience One Man’s Dream (it was closed for refurb our last trip) and I absolutely loved the video they played in the theatre.
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/377.jpg

By this time we were getting hungry for some lunch. I know it doesn’t seem like we did much but keep in mind that 3 drawing classes = approx. 1.5 hours.

We decided to try our luck at Sci-Fi and see if we would walk up.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/378.jpg

Success!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/381.jpg

(We each had our own shake BTW. I’m not sure that Greg and I will ever split a shake again. A while back Greg, my cousin Jackie and I went to Fuddruckers for dinner and I asked Greg if he wanted to split a cookies & cream shake with me and we proceeded to argue about who drank the most for the entire meal. (I still think he drank more! HA!) :lmao: We’re never going to live that one down. My cousin told EVERYONE because she thought it was oh so funny.)

My overall opinion? Eh… I like 50s PTC better. However, I am looking forward to the day when Greg and I have little ones of our own and we can take them here.

We didn’t want to do anything to thrilling after our lunch so we headed over to GMR. I’ve seen it several times by now and while it’s not my favorite it’s just one of those things that I say, “I don’t care if I miss” and then I always seem to go on it! We actually got the Cowboy version this time so it was worth riding. (I always had the gangster version in the past.)

We headed over to TOT next. After that our FP window was open for TSM so we headed on over that way. I must say, Greg is great at video games but I seem to have the edge on him for this game. YAY! :cool1:

I was itching to do another drawing class so we went back and did 2! The CM was the same from the morning and recognized us. She had a bit of a voting system to let the majority choose what we draw. We drew A LOT of characters between this trip and last so we were raising our hand a lot when she asked if anyone drew “this character” or “that one”. Oops? :rolleyes1 We actually drew Sorcerer Mickey this day and I know Greg was excited as that is his favorite version of Mickey.

We decided to leave the park at this point and, of course, Greg had to stop at the pin station to check out their pins. :headache: She showed Greg the pin binder and recommended that we got the hot dog topped with mac n’ cheese from Scoops. (I’ll have to remember that for next time!)

We were at the boat dock before long.

Wednesday October 5 (Cont.)

My mind is a little fuzzy but I believe we went back to the room to freshen up before heading over to Epcot for the evening. We had an ADR at San Angel and it was EMH.

We took a boat over and got to the Mexico pavilion without any trouble. Greg checked us in and they were BUSY! We waited around 10 minutes just to check-in and we overheard that they weren’t taking anymore walk-ups. We were handed a buzzer and we waited…and waited…and waited some more. After 30 minutes we were finally being seated.

The service was great but man are those tables squished together. :crowded: It was one of those situations where you pretty much are forced to make conversation with the tables on either side of you because it’s as though you are eating together. A family of 4 was sat just shortly after us and the little boy was being so cute; he wanted to order everything the same as his dad. It made me smile. Bless his heart!

We ordered an appetizer (Tostados de Tinga - Fried corn tortillas topped with black beans, lettuce, onions, advocado, tomato marinated chicken, sour cream, and fresh cheese) to split and it was very tasty. I also had an avocado margarita and it was soooooo delicious! Not to mention we were getting some great service so this girl was happy. :cloud9:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/383.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/384.jpg

While the main entrees were good (Sirloin con Chilaquiles - Grilled sirloin with chilaquiles (layers of fried corn tortilla, green tomatillo sauce, topped with queso fresco, onion, and sour cream) served with black beans)(the lighting in there made it difficult to get good pictures) they weren’t anything memorable. I will definitely go back to San Angel but I think we’ll do lunch again like on the last trip.

After we settled the bill we headed over to The Land to go Soarin’ over California. The wait time said 35 minutes and, because it was right around the time Illuminations was starting, this was probably the shortest the wait was going to be the rest of the evening. We actually only ended up waiting 20 minutes. Score!

We decided to hop on Living with the Land.

I tried to look for the hidden Mickey in the lettuce but found this instead:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/385.jpg

How cool?!

Unfortunately it wasn’t a very enjoyable ride as the family in front of us proceeded to talk rather LOUDLY through the entire ride and it wasn’t commentary on the ride it was just your everyday chatter. Oh well…

We headed over to The Seas and hopped aboard a clam mobile for an under the sea adventure. When we were walking toward SE after our ride we overheard a wife being told by her husband (it wasn’t eavesdropping he was shouting across the sidewalk to her) “Steve Jobs, dead!” I’ll never forget how I found out about his passing, that’s for sure!

We walked right onto to SE. It’s always a little creepy (IMO) to ride SE when there isn’t really anyone in few cars before or after you. We were stopped for a few minutes here:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/386.jpg

Luckily it wasn’t a long stop because before long we were seeing our future:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/387.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/388.jpg

We decided we had accomplished enough for the night and began our walk toward the boat dock to head back to the Dolphin. We caught a boat that was nearly full and we had to stand in the open area in the back…next to a bunch of drunk people. There were probably 5-6 people and they were obnoxious and had a white trash bag FULL OF AT LEAST 25 of the plastic souvenir mugs that the Food & Wine Fest were giving out with the 20+oz pours of beer. Yikes! :scared1: Luckily they got off at the Boardwalk (they were going to Jellyrolls).

Tomorrow was check-out day at the Dolphin and we still had some of the $100 credit left on our account so we stopped at The Fountain and got a PB & J shake. It was delicious! Great end to a great night!

Up Next: The clouds begin to roll in…

Usually they put a hidden Mickey in the lettuce so at first glance I was a little bummed that they didn't put anything in there but then I looked a little more closely and saw "Epcot"! :)

I am really pleased with my new camera. I still need to become more familiar with it but I haven't really taken the time to do so.

The sandwiches at Starring Rolls are SO good!

Greg was really excited to draw Mickey. I want to draw Minnie next time!

I promise I didn't use a flash to take that picture on SE. It really annoys me when people use flash. On one of our rides on POTC last trip, there were people in our boat that were taking pictures of EVERYTHING with a flash. Ugh! :sad2:

Thanks! :) For the past 2 years, we haven't had many crowds. By no means is it "dead" but it's slow enough not to have to worry about standing in line for too long or missing out on something. Plus there's MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Fest. It's going to be hard for us to go at any other time of year.

Thursday October 6:

We were up at 830 this morning because it was check-out day! Notice how I didn’t say departure day. We still have 4 more nights at Pop to look forward to. I got most of our things together the night before so after grabbing some coffee, stopping at the front desk (there was an error on our room charges) and dropping our bags at bell services we were on our way to Epcot!

What were we doing this afternoon? You guessed it. Food & Wine Fest! We were there about 30 minutes before World Showcase opened, so we got ourselves a map of the fest and sat on a bench (see picture below) while we made our plan of attack!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/390-1.jpg

We stopped at Ireland first for some Warm Chocolate Lava Cake (with Bailey’s Irish Cream Ganache), we missed this last year and couldn’t let that happen again.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/392.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/394.jpg

It was TINY. Oh well, we still had a lot of food eating to accomplish that afternoon. Ha! Ha! It wasn’t actually that good at all. When I think of “lava cake” I think of a gooey center that runs out when you cut into it. This wasn’t like that at all. On to the next…

I wanted to try the Kerrygold Cheese Selection (Aged-Irish Cheddar, Dubliner and Ivernia Cheese) with Apple Chutney and Brown Bread:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/393.jpg

While not “best thing I ever ate” , it was a cheese plate I’d get again. I’m not a fan of “stinky” cheese and none of these cheeses were. Score! I also didn’t have to share this with Greg because he doesn’t really care for cheese! What?! Oh well, more for me! The biggest complaint I have is that the butter could have been a little softer; it wasn’t very spreadable.

Next, we went over to Greece where I had the Greek Salad with Pita Bread:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/397.jpg

No disappointment here! It was simple but you know what they say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

Greg was interested in the Tuna Poke with Seaweed Salad and Lotus Root Chips from Hawaii:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/398.jpg

You go ahead and enjoy that all by yourself, honey. Even looking at it now grosses me out. Greg wasn’t too keen on it either. Surprised? I’m not. (We’re not the biggest fans of fish. We enjoy tuna but that was RAW!)

Greg decided to try Feijoada (Black Bean and Pork Stew) from Brazil:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/401.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/403.jpg

It wasn’t anything memorable. I wish there was more pork and less black bean.

Greg was being really adventurous on this day apparently! (He typically sticks to what he knows.) He got the Pork Kakuni from Japan.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/409.jpg

This does not look appetizing at all! It was VERY tough. On to the next…
We stopped at Germany so I could get an Apfel Strudel featuring Werther’s Original Karamell Sauce and Vanilla Sauce:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/404.jpg

I really enjoyed this dish last year and it was even better this year. I think they sliced the apples thinner this year, it was a lot easier to cut into with a fork and there was plenty of sauce to enjoy with every bite. I really wish I was eating this right now. (I’m not lying when I say my stomach is grumbling at me!)

Another one of my favorites from this festival was the Golabki (Pork Stuffed Cabbage) from Poland:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/405.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/406.jpg

Words cannot describe how flavorful this was. All of the flavors went so well together. The light sauce, the cabbage was cooked perfectly (wasn’t too strong tasting, either) and the pork was like a meatball. Yum!

We went to Hops & Barley to get a Pumpkin Mousse with Ocean Spray Craisins and Orange Sauce:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/407.jpg

I want another one right NOW! The pumpkin mousse was so flavorful without being overpowering. The orange sauce and Craisins added just the right amount of tart to make this dessert a party in your mouth. Yeah, I went there.

Greg got the Coconut-Braised, Beef Rending with Jasmine Rice from Singapore:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/408.jpg

The CM said it was spicy so I don’t know why Greg still got it (he’s not a fan of really spicy) but he did. The CM wasn’t kidding! POW! That wasn’t the worst part, though; the worst part was that I was expecting the coconut to be more subtle and definitely have a softer texture. It tastes like it was seared first and then added to the dish. I didn’t like the almost crunchy texture in a dish that didn’t look as though it was meant to have any crunch.

From New Zealand we shared the Lamb Slider with Tomato Chutney:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/410.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/411.jpg

Not my cup of tea. I’m not particularly fond of lamb and it was really overpowering in this dish. The bun was bordering on stale so that didn’t help, either. Greg ate most of it and he said he enjoyed it (minus the tomato part).

Greg wanted to try the Harissa Chicken Roll from Morrocco:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/412.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/415.jpg

I ended up eating most of it b/c I really liked it! It was spicy. The outside was crunchy (like an egg roll but a little more substantial) and the flavors on the inside went really well together.

We also had the Baklava:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/414.jpg

Eh, I’ve had better. My mom get’s baklava every year from an Arabic bakery and it’s so delicious. I might be biased.

Portugal was up next, specifically the Linguica Sausage with Onions, Peppers and Olives:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/416.jpg

Eat the sausage, toss the rest of the stuff on the plate. It is spicy, though. Not as good as the Chicken Chipotle Sausage from Canada or the Nurnberger Sausage from Germany. Still, worth getting if you’re a fan of sausage.

Lastly, we stopped at Belgium to get a Freshly Baked Waffle with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream, a Godiva Chocolate Iced Coffee and the Guylian Belgian Chocolate Seashell Truffles:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/417.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/419.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/418.jpg

I felt thoroughly cheated on the truffles. Really prepackaged?! This is a food and wine fest not a grocery store! They weren’t good either. At least they were less than $2. The waffle was good but the berry compote was very seedy. I don’t remember it being like that last year. The waffle was a little over cooked so it was hard to eat, too. I was so disappointed! This was one of my favorite items last year. The iced coffee was good but it is such a small portion (about 4 oz) for almost $7! YIKES!

We left around 1pm or so and headed back to the Dolphin via the boat one last time. We collected our baggage and took a cab over to Pop!

Up Next: A quick trip to Epcot and California Grill!

I took away my ticker because we're NOT going to Disneyland anymore. I'm not sad. I know we'll get there one day. I just need to make a "grown up" decision and face the fact that a trip like that would make us pinch our pennies for the next few months and I don't want to do that. We're still going to go on a trip. Somewhere (somewhat) close. I'm thinking Michigan. We love Saugatuck and I know Greg would like to go to a casino that's on the way up there. (They have live Keno and Pai-Gow.) We need new carpet. We needed new carpet when we moved in almost 3 years ago. (Previous owners snagged it in a few spots; it's Berber carpet.) I'm sick of seeing them!

Greg and I have been dealing (pretty silently up until now) with a lot of stress, disappointment and heartache lately. It makes it hard to get excited for a lot of things (vacations included). I think a vacation is exactly what we need, though. We've been trying to have a little baby of our own since last summer and it just isn't happening. It's the hardest thing to go through because it's something we can't control. I've taken medication and I'm on my last "round" before I am referred to a fertility doctor. I'm not ready for that and I don't know if I'll ever be. It's already the first thing I think of in the morning and the last thing I think of before I go to bed. I can't let this consume my life. I can't let it prevent me from being happy and enjoying life. I feel like I'm failing as a wife (and woman). Just yesterday Greg said, "I wish we could have a baby." I'm ready to be a mom. I don't really know why I'm sharing this now but I'm sick of being in the dark about it.

Honestly, I don't know what to say about the trying issue. I'm single and probably will be for a long time, since what I'm looking for is so specific. I wish I had something to tell you, but I hope that things work out for you and Greg and having a little one soon  My best friend and her husband were trying for a long time and finally got pregnant a few months ago. She's due in June, not long after my birthday. Things will work out

I'm so sorry you're not going to Disneyland, but it makes sense why you aren't. :goodvibes This is why I'm having such an issue with the one trip/two trips thing...I know I should be a grown up and just do one trip-and maybe NOT do a deluxe to save even more money-but at the same time, Brandon and I are SO stressed, so miserable...and Disney makes me SO happy, and I feel like I need an escape! I think sometimes being on the DIS makes it even harder to be responsible, because you hear all these people taking multiple trips all year and you think "I could do that" but...you really can't! :rotfl:

As for having a baby...I'm sorry it's been so hard. I feel like it will happen for you. When you're stressed you don't get pregnant. Ever heard about the people who stop trying and then a month later they're pregnant? I really believe in that. Maybe take a break, have fun, save some money, and then continue trying in a few months.

I want to have a baby more than anything too, and Brandon and I are just so not on the same page. He wants one, but he feels like we're never going to be ready financially. We've never even tried to have one yet, but whenever someone gets pregnant that I know my heart breaks a little. We'll both get there, I believe that.

I skimmed through your last update... sorry but most of that food just looks gross to me, but I tend to eat like a 6 year old. :rolleyes1 I did take another look at that apple thing from Germany. That looked yummy!

Sorry to hear about Disneyland & the fertility issues. We tried for about 9 months for each of our boys. With Alex, we were trying, then stopped because I got a new job, then we moved into our house & within a month of moving, I was pregnant! You just never know! I never went through any kind of fertility treatment - the doctor told us to wait until we hit the one year mark to worry about that. So good luck to you!! It will happen!

Hey Rachael! I was following along on your PTR and somehow never subscribed to your actual TR! I'm so glad you're still writing it (even though by now I'm sure you're ready to be done! )

I'm all caught so here are the little mental notes I made (and I have a TERRIBLE memory so I'm sure I'll forget a bunch)

First, Jen is right about the baby! The more you "try" the more you stress and harder it will get. When the time is REALLY right, it will happen!

Second, I don't know what is up with the Disney buses the last couple of years but it seems they are getting REALLY bad! Over the summer of 2010, there was actually an instance where a guest started a physical fight with a bus driver because the driver told him that it was full. We stayed at CSR last year and didn't have any issues at all but we were so frustrated in 2009 when we stayed at POP...the buses to and from the resort were either ALWAYS packed or non-existent. It was NOT magical.

You guys tried a lot of the food from F & W! That's really awesome! We always WANT to but then we get there and we try one or two things and that's it! That kinda stinks that a lot of it wasn't very good. I wonder if it's just because of the dish itself or if it's the conditions under which it's made....maybe if it was something served like in a TS place some of it would be better? :confused3

I know there was something else I wanted to comment on but I forget what it is now! Oh! PINS!! DUH! We are OBSESSED with PINS! When I tell you we spent probably $800 in pins between our 2009 - 2010 trips, I am not even CLOSE to exaggeration. My BF collects ANYTHING Haunted Mansion (and ironically those are always sold in really expensive sets...) and we both like to get the limited edition stuff. We went buckwild with Pin Trading last year...but it got us into the AK Parade so woot woot! (We stopped a CM and asked if we could see her pins and she told us we had to answer a question first...turns out the question was "do you want to be a Family of The Day in the parade today?" It was AWESOME!) It's a LOT of fun but it gets crazy expensive if you're not careful. We've already decided we're cutting WAY down when we go in July! Limit of 5 pins each or one collectors set...THAT'S IT! (we'll see how long we stick to that...:rolleyes1 )

Just last night my DFIL mentioned going to Vegas (he just went in November). I realized that everybody has places/things that make them happy. His escape is Las Vegas, Greg and I's escape is Disney World. For other people it might be an activity rather than a place, such as baking or running.

It actually did relieve some stress. I know Greg and I will be parents one day, even if that means adopting.

When we left Epcot, we headed over to the Dolphin to collect our bags and took a taxi over to Pop. I was keeping my fingers crossed that we would be granted our king room request and WE WERE! (I really think that noting it on our reservation with the CM in person (when we spent our first night at Pop) was essential.) We were in the farthest building on the 80’s/90’s section but we had a king room and a pool view so I was happy!

I thought about laying down to take a nap but I wasn’t tired enough so even though the clouds were looking a little angry, we headed down to the pool to relax. I took a little dip in the pool but when the sun wasn’t shining, there was a chill in the air. We mostly sat and planned out our final 3 days and I did laundry one last time.

After a couple hours or so we headed back to our room so that we could get ready for California Grill. I was hoping to stop over at Epcot to get a few PP pictures before heading over to Cali Grill (MK would have been ideal but it was a MNSSHP evening).

It ended up that we had plenty of time to go over to Epcot. We even stopped at one of the Food & Wine Booths to enjoy a couple of drinks! Here’s two of my favorite pictures from that night:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/310590_10100339990198940_22913280_51463313_5291542 88_n.jpg

We left Epcot with about an hour to get to Cali Grill and we needed every bit of that hour! The monorail was PACKED. We did make it on time, though and before we knew it we were being seated (with a view of the castle)!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/421.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/420.jpg

We started with some fresh bread and butter:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/423.jpg

We were adventurous and decided to try some sushi! (Dragon Roll - Spicy and Tataki tuna with shrimp tempura, bell pepper, avocado, and chili soy glaze )

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/422.jpg

It wasn’t bad but I still prefer my tuna be cooked (at least seared). Greg really liked it though!

We then tried the Fried Zucchini with Blossoms - ricotta and almond filling, sweet corn puree, cilantro vinaigrette.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/424.jpg

Between our appetizer and our main course it was time for Hallowishes! I was beyond excited that we got to see it from our seats! Greg got a couple of pictures:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1262.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/100_1263.jpg

For our main entrees, I had the Cast Iron-seared Bison - truffle mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, cipollini, smoked bacon, glace de viande

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/427.jpg

Greg had the Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with Goat Cheese Polenta, Roasted Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze, and Sage

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/428.jpg

I was being adventurous by getting the bison but it seriously was SO flavorful. The truffled mac and cheese wasn’t as good as I was expecting, though.
Greg must have enjoyed his dish because I didn’t hear any complaints!

For dessert we shared S'Mores Valrhona Chocolate Cake - Warm chocolate cake w/molten center, Tahitian vanilla marshmallow, graham cracker sable, and peanut butter gelato.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/429.jpg

This dessert was probably my favorite dish of the night! Wow! Luckily, Greg and I were both pretty full at this point so there wasn’t any arguing over who ate more. Ha! Ha!

I was sitting here making ADR plans for our 2013 trip and California Grill was at the top of my list! So glad you guys enjoyed it! We really like sushi so we're looking forward to going here! I wish we could squeeze it on for our July trip this year but there are too many people going and I don't think we could make it work.

Although now I have to go back and look at our list and see if I could change something.....:rolleyes1

First off, let me just say :worship: to you for being open about your baby struggles! I know what a huge step that is. I was just diagnosed with PCOS in November, so I am right there with you! It's so frustrating to think that your body isn't working like it should. But, I also know that there is so much out there for people who it doesn't come so easily for. We're just kind of taking it easy for a a while, but if nothings happens come spring we'll get more serious with treatment as well. If you ever want to talk about it feel free to PM me! I don't really discuss it with anyone in real life, so I know it can be kind of isolating. :goodvibes

Ok - on to Disney! Your update has me so excited for Cali Grill! And I LOVE your dress that you wore. You look so beautiful!

I can't believe that I forgot to add that a couple at a table just a few feet away from us got engaged! They were with about 4-5 other people and my back was to it so I looked back when I heard the clapping. I was so excited for them! She immediately was on the telephone calling everyone.

It's a great "date night" so you may want to save it for your 2013 trip.

It was such a nice meal. We weren't rushed at all and our server was great. I actually think I'd like to try Victoria and Alberts on one of the next trips!

Thanks, I actually got the dress at Old Navy last spring. It's very "Rachel Bilson" (from the OC). I love it! :)

I was just diagnosed with PCOS in November, so I am right there with you! It's so frustrating to think that your body isn't working like it should. But, I also know that there is so much out there for people who it doesn't come so easily for.

I've got PCOS as well. I was diagnosed when I was 18, so almost ten years ago. It's such a lovely issue, isn't it? My OBGYN told me that my case has a strong chance that it could eventually develop into ovarian cancer. Heck of a thing to be told when you're 18.

Aww that's so sweet! I did end up exchanging our dinner at Ohana this July for California Grill so hopefully we'll like it and we'll go back in 2013 when it's just the two of us! And also love the dress you were wearing! I forgot to mention it before but I really like it!

I hope you'll like it, too! Be adventurous and don't hesitate to ask your server for suggestions. Thanks, it is one of my favorite dresses. :)

Really enjoying your TR, keep it coming!

I've still got 3 more full days to share! :)

Great update! I love your dress! :thumbsup2

Thank you! I'm sad your dates don't seem like they'll overlap with ours. Our dates aren't official yet but I would have loved to do a DIS meet with you! We'll see how things go. :)

I can only imagine! I have anxiety issues and I don't know how I would deal with that looming in the back of my mind. I already worry about every little ache and pain. I am thankful that I don't have any cysts on my ovaries and my blood work (done yearly) shows that my hormone levels are normal. Something's up, though.

I was hesitant to get the Gardisil injections until my aunt had stage III HPV (the next step up is cervical cancer). I go for my second injection on Friday. :)

What are your dates?? We're doing Sept 22-30. I'd like to go the next week, but it's no longer value season that week and you can stay in a deluxe for like $500 less! And this way we can still catch some Food and Wine festival!! If our dates overlap at all we should definitely meet up!!

We're actually thinking about going Oct 27-Nov 4. I'm not sure what we're doing anymore actually. I don't know whether to skip Disney this year and do an Alaskan cruise or what!

Ohhh, I would love to go those days but like I said, we have to go for value season and our AP'S expire Oct. 5. :(

I want to do an Alaskan Cruise sooo bad!! Have you priced any of them yet? They're actually not too bad!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd 2+ weeks later, I'm responding. I've been really busy and had other things on my mind.

We're actually planning to do an Alaskan cruise this September in lieu of Disney World. It's on our bucket list and we've kept saying we're going to go every year. When it comes down to it, it's actually nearly the same cost as a Disney World trip.

I know, I know. I've been neglectful. I'm sorry!!! :sad2:

I only have three days left to share and this weekend I should be able to get an update in as I don't work or have much going on.

I've been really busy lately. I worked last Saturday and today all day on top of my regular hours at the library and I still do my writing from home and I actually just got accepted to write articles through examiner.com and CBS Local!!! :cool1: It won't pay much but I'll get a byline and more readership exposure so I am really looking forward to it.

I do have some exciting news on the vacation front...Greg and I finally made a decision for our next vacation. We're going to...wait for it...wait for it...ORLANDO!!!! Notice how I said Orlando and NOT Disney World. This is going to be a park free trip. Greg and I both want relaxation. This doesn't mean there won't be some Disney magic thrown in. We'll definitely dine at a few of our favorite restaurants and visit Downtown Disney (Greg's already talking about pins...:rotfl:). :) We got a phenomenal deal on a one bedroom suite at a resort that is rated #6 of over 340 hotels in Orlando on TripAdvisor. We'll have a full kitchen and a washer and dryer! I'll share more about this trip as I begin planning more. It only took a month of decision making to choose this trip. :rolleyes1 When it came down to it, we found this deal and couldn't pass it up!

Your spring Florida trip sounds great! I can't believe you're going to be so close to Disney and NOT go to a park, though! :rotfl:

Are you really doing an Alaskan cruise this September? What cruise line? I'm really, really hoping to do one next year, I'd love to do one in August and take a full 2 weeks to do the cruise and then maybe go to like, Washington or northern CA for a few days! I'd do one this year, but I don't feel like I have enough time to plan, and it's only February!

I <3 the dress you wore to the California Grill, it's so cute. Greg's yellow shirt really complemented it too.

I'm so sorry for hear you guys are having trouble TTC; you are so brave to talk about it so openly. I know it's cheesy, and not really what you want to hear, but when the time is right it will happen for you guys. Take the delay as a sign it's not your time yet and you should be packing as much fun into your years as a duo as you can, your lives will not be your own before you know it!

You guys will make wonderful parents.

I can't believe it either. I know the parks are going to be PACKED, though. It's the week before Easter which means many schools are on spring break (at least around here). My annual pass is still good until April 23 and we have some Disney gift cards that would essentially get Greg in for nothing so we might consider it for one day. I'm not sure, though. The thought of dealing with huge crowds is not appealing at all to me.

We went to Mexico last September and it was such a relaxing vacation. We considered going again this March but it's really expensive. I then tried researching some resorts on any of the Florida beaches. A decent hotel is over $300 night and I really don't want to stay in a motel. I'm going to write an update now and then I'm going to "introduce" our upcoming Orlando trip. :)

Friday, October 7

This morning we set a 730am wakeup call. Greg got up but I slept until 8. We still made it to Hollywood Studios for rope drop, though!

We were on the slow end of the TSM mad dash. We waited 25 minutes and we grabbed some fastpasses for later.

We decided to get a breakfast sandwich from Fairfax Faire.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/432.jpg

Overall, I wasn’t too impressed. It wasn’t horrible but I wish we would have just went to Starring Rolls.

We had to make a stopover at the Animation Academy and we participated in 2 classes. The instructor CM said to use “You guys are gaining a lot of enemies.” We kept raising our hand when asked who drew “this character”. I’m not addicted to the classes at all…

After we were done drawing we headed over to RnRC and grabbed a couple FPS. We then got in the standby line for ToT.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/433.jpg

While taking our ride on the elevator, it DOWNPOURED. That didn’t stop us, though! I had ponchos so we were prepared! :)

We went over to the Muppets next. Can I just say that the preshow seems to go on for-ev-er.

After Muppets, it was time to use our RnRC FPs so we headed over there.

Breakfast was wearing off at this point, so we decided to stop for some lunch at Starring Rolls.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/434.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/436.jpg

You can’t go wrong with a meal from here. Sooooo delicious!

After lunch we used our FPs on TSM for one last ride. I think Greg actually beat me this time because I remember being a good sport! Haha

We headed back to Pop for a little rest.

When I woke up, we continued to debate going to MNSSHP again. The weather was looking a bit ominous and we didn’t want to spend the money for the tickets only to have it wasted. Greg wanted to head to the lobby for the pin trading that was going to take place, so he was going to see if any tickets were available for this night and I was going to get ready for the evening.

Turns out that there were tickets left so we purchased 2 and headed to the food court for some dinner before heading over the MK.

I had one of the TV Dinners (meatloaf on this night):
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/437.jpg

Greg had a cheeseburger and fries:
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/438.jpg

Overall, it was an okay meal. The green beans and cornbread were the best part of my meal.

As soon as we were finished eating, we headed out to the MK. Our goal for the night was to take a lot of character pictures and see the parade again.

Now, look at this picture:
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/439.jpg

Yeah, I know!!!

Of course the skies opened up. (Yes we had ponchos.) We took cover in the tunnel by Haunted Mansion.

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/442.jpg

There was a family with some AWESOME costumes and I did my best to take pictures without being a creeper…

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/441.jpg

We tried to see the Villian Show but it was cancelled due to the rain. The workers were really out there trying to get the water off the stage but it just wasn’t safe enough. They did do the character meet and greet though, so that was great!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/472.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/316995_10100339993098130_22913280_51463362_2032464 505_n.jpg

Cruella commented on our shirts and asked me to join her business. I said no! haha

We found a spot on Main St. for the parade and waited…and waited…and waitied. By this point in the evening it was raining on and off but it hadn’t really down poured since the skies first opened. The parade was about 45 minutes delayed if I remember correctly. But at least they had the parade, right?

I’m laughing in this picture because Jafar pointed at my shirt and I said I made them and he did a “Whoop de doo” sign with his finger. Then I told him he’s scary, I forget how it came up. He then gave me bunny ears. One of the best character meet and greets ever.

Greg was ecstatic when we came out of this meet and greet because the CM’s in the gift shop had the pin he was looking for, he had now completed 2 pin collections.

What guys, are you mad at me for taking so long to post an update or something? :lmao: Where are you?! :confused3

I promise I'll finish this TR before our next trip (see ticker in my signature).

As I've said before, I have been working from home for the past four months or so (I started immediately after our trip in October). I have to meet minimum production requirements to stay in good standing. Pair that with my other part-time job at the library and taking care of a household as well as the many family gatherings (we had a lot of January birthdays, including mine), DIS can get away from me. I know you all know that, too. I'm sure many of you are a lot busier than me!!! :)

P.S. As a birthday present to myself for turning 25 and a treat for working so hard these past couple of months, I purchased an iPhone 4s when my upgrade became available. I'll be able to post live tweets on our next trip to Orlando. If you'd like to follow me on Twitter, my name is @RachaelDab. If you're not on Twitter, what are you waiting for?! :)

Looks like a fun night at MNSSHP even with the rain! Sometimes a little rain can keep the crowds away & make it more fun for everyone else.

So where are you staying in Orlando? We own a timeshare & trade into Orlando a lot so I'm pretty familiar with the different villa options.

Sounds like you've been a busy lady! You'll love your iphone 4S! I upgraded from my iphone 3GS in the fall. I love the new features.

There was a lot of complaining that I overheard. People were lined up at "town hall" inquiring about refunds. The weather was pretty miserable so I am thankful that it cleared up enough to have the parade and fireworks. Otherwise, I would have been one of those people in line asking for a refund!

We're staying at The Point Resort. It was rated highly on TripAdvisor and I was able to book a one bedroom suite for $125/night.

Yesterday I asked Siri, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" and she replied, "I have no particular insight to the motivation of chickens." I got a good laugh out of that one.

I remember that night that you were at MNSSHP and all the rain, we were in Epcot and we were getting a little annoyed with the weather, but it wasn't too awful. The next day, though...ugh! It was our most miserable day in Disney, too!

We're going on spring break...to Orlando!

We'll be arriving late Tuesday evening and will be picking up our rental car and heading straight to our resort to check-in and go to bed . We both work Tuesday so I know we are going to be exhausted. Our GPS doesn't have a very good working relationship with Florida so I definitely will be printing out directions from the airport to the resort.

We'll be staying 7 nights at The Point Resort in Orlando.

(Pictures courtesy of The Point Orlando Resort website.)

We'll have a full kitchen, washer/dryer combo, balcony and jacuzzi tub. I'm looking forward to all of the space and extra amenities. We paid around $125/night. I always check reviews on TripAdvisor and The Point is rated #6 of over 340 hotels in the Orlando area. While they do call it a resort, it does only have one pool with a grill and a lobby breakfast area.

As far as daily activities, I just asked Greg what his top 3 are and he said:

-Massage
-Beach
-Magic Kingdom

My top 3 are similar:

-Massage
-Beach
-Epcot

Greg's supposed to call his aunt, uncle, cousin and his wife that live in the area to schedule a time for us to go to dinner together.

This afternoon I'm working on our itinerary so I'll update with more as the plans are finalized. I know it's going to include a meal or two at the Disney resorts, perhaps a day at the park, a couples massage and a trip to the beach.

You guys got to do so many cool character meet & greets! We are SO jealous! That sucks that it rained though! We went to the Pirate and Princess Party in 2008 and it POURED all night long! There were frogs coming out of the lake and just sitting in the 3 inch puddles on the sidewalks. We were sopping wet in all of our pictures! Thinking back on it, it was still a fun night but I was SOOO sad and miserable at the time!

The crowds are supposed to be a 9 or 10/10 when we're there! :scared1: They were like that when I went to WDW with my sister last April and we were up with the sun and we were able to ride all the big ticket attractions before the crowds got crowded so I'm confident Greg and I could accomplish a lot as well but I'm not sure I want to spend $85 on a ticket only to stay in the park for a few hours. I think its awesome you went to MNSSHP twice! I went to DL version twice last year and felt its essential! Especially if you want to do Character photos!! I have a feeling getting hubby to just one party come October will be pushing it so I will just have to make the most of it!

Just make sure you plan, plan and plan some more for that party. I made a list of "must accomplish" things and another "would be nice if". We did get everything accomplished that I wanted to that first night but we both loved the parade so much that ultimately we decided we wanted to experience it again. :goodvibes

Just caught up on your TR! I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm getting nervous about your "up next" title! The most miserable day at the most magical place?! uh oh! I hope nothing too horrible. :confused3

You did a lot of resort hopping! I feel like I wouldn't be able to handle it. I'm a "one resort per trip" kinda gal. You must be adventurous!

Thanks! :)

It honestly was the most miserable day...but we made the best of it. I hope to write the next update some time this week.

Honestly, I am so obsessed with being organized that it takes less than 15 minutes to pack up and be ready to head to the next resort. The dirty laundry is always in a drawer or laundry bag, our toiletries are always put away in their bags, the clean clothes are kept in the suitcase, etc.

great update! sorry it took me a few days to get on here and read it! I can't see pics on my work computer because the stupid firewall blocks them so I have to wait until I'm at home! It actually sucks because I have NOTHING to do at work and I can't even stay caught up on TRs. :sad2:

You guys got to do so many cool character meet & greets! We are SO jealous! That sucks that it rained though! We went to the Pirate and Princess Party in 2008 and it POURED all night long! There were frogs coming out of the lake and just sitting in the 3 inch puddles on the sidewalks. We were sopping wet in all of our pictures! Thinking back on it, it was still a fun night but I was SOOO sad and miserable at the time!

ETA: and your spring break trip looks really nice so far! that resort looks beautiful!

I almost feel miserable thinking about our the day after that MNSSHP. The rain literally did not stop all day so you can imagine what it was like by the end of the day...:sad2:

Your spring break plans look great!

I'm not familiar with that resort but it looks very nice. There are so many nice offsite resorts in Orlando that give you more space.

Good luck with the GPS! ;)

So, how is everyone's week going?

On Monday, I babysat my cousin (she's 7) and we played some games:

Magic Kingdom
http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/27b2898c5bf411e1abb01231381b65e3_7-1.jpg

I picked up both about a month ago from the Goodwill closest to my house. Apparently they don't even make the Magic Kingdom game anymore (you can purchase it in eBay, though). It's so much fun! The directions are very in depth for such a simple game, though. My game is missing a pawn/stand or two and the monorail piece but other than that it's in great condition. It was such a find! :)

On Tuesday, I was all set to start crunching numbers for our trip next month but then this happened when I was making dinner:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/416960_10100561954370960_22913280_52413502_1785658 997_n.jpg

:headache: I spent my evening at the ER getting it checked out. I sliced my finger slicing potatoes on a hand-mandoline (kitchen slicer). I didn't need stitches but they had to put some powder on it to stop the bleeding. The doctor was a "comedian" and said "we're both going to find out if this burns together". Um...OW!!!!! :scared1: It felt like he was sprinkling acid on my finger. :sad2:

I hope to do some number crunching today but I have one article to write for work so we'll see how much time I have before I have to be at work this afternoon. I will share our daily plans soon! :)

Saturday, October 8:
It’s time for a TR update! I am going to apologize in advance for the lack of pictures in this update; it was raining ALL DAY so I didn’t want to get my camera soaked.

The forecast called for rain and more rain when we watched the forecast while we were getting ready but we didn’t want to spend one of our last two days in WDW inside so we put on our ponchos and headed out.

We started the day off by going to Epcot because we wanted to revisit our favorite booths for the Food & Wine Festival. The first thing we did, though was go to The Land to grab FP’s for Soarin’. We were already pretty wet so we decided to just hang around pavilion until our FP time became available as I think it was only about 45 minutes away. Here’s three of the four pictures I have from this day and they’re of our breakfast at Sunshine Seasons:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/477.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/478.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/479.jpg

We didn’t get much b/c we wanted to save room for the booths in just a little while.

After breakfast, we saw the Circle of Life. It was decent but like a lot of other DISers have said, it isn’t something I need to do every trip. Afterwards, we used our Soarin’ FPs and put the ponchos back on to head on over to the World Showcase.

Could you believe that there were LINES at the booths? When I say it was still raining, it mean it was REALLY raining. Not torrential downpour but a steady rain. I still shiver when I think about how wet we were getting. We did stop at many of the booths because darn it, we were going to enjoy our last trip to the Food and Wine Festival this trip! We even made a pit stop in Germany to get two of these delicacies:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/480.jpg

We attempted to browse through the shops throughout the countries but we were just too wet to enjoy it. Once we (fairly quickly) made it through the World Showcase, we headed back to Pop.

I took a nap and I’m sure Greg played his DS or read or maybe this is the afternoon that he napped with me. Once I woke up, we checked the weather and saw that it wasn’t going to stop raining anytime this evening. I used Greg’s tablet to log on to the DIS to find the number to the DISer we were scheduled to do the Illuminations cruise with that evening to touch base about that evening. We never heard back so I hope I sent it to the right number. In fact, we never heard back at all (even on the DIS). I’m assuming the cruises were cancelled. I’m not sure how they were able to do any fireworks in the rain that was coming down.

Anyway, we made a new game plan for the evening and that was to go see a movie in Downtown Disney. We took the bus to the Pleasure Island stop and purchased tickets for Moneyball. I was interested in the dine-in theatre but for some reason, we decided against it. After the movie was over, it was STILL raining. We decided just to head back to Pop and have dinner there. My shoes were soaked through to my socks, puddles were up to my ankles and the wind kept blowing my poncho up and the hood off of my face. It was a miserable time waiting for that bus that seemed to take forever.

Eventually, we made it back to Pop and both had some meals that were just not good. I think I had a sandwich and I’m not sure what Greg had. They were getting ready to close up for the night so many of the stations were closed and they literally had NO desserts stocked. At this point, I was ready to call it a day and that’s exactly what we did.

Up next: We meet the Cake Boss! (Our last full day.)

March/April Trip:

Well, I *think* I've finally gotten our itinerary together for our quickly approaching trip! :goodvibes We'll have 7 nights and 6 days in Orlando. I think I have a nice balance of active/relaxed activities. :)

Wednesday, March 28:
-Breakfast at Boma (Any tips on the best viewing areas of the safari?)
-Massage (I purchased a Groupon for a place about 30 mins. outside of Orlando but it was only $69 for a 60-min. couples massage!)
-Daytona Beach (We'll relax on the beach, have dinner and catch the sunset. :lovestruc)

Thursday, March 29:
-Hangout at the Grand Floridian & Polynesian (I'd like to get a couple frozen drinks from the pool bars and sit on the beach.)
-Downtown Disney (Shopping and have dinner/see a movie at the Dine-in theater.)

Friday, March 30:
-Magic Kingdom! :woohoo: (I'd like to see the opening ceremony. I'm predicting large crowds so we'll plan on a break around lunch time and we'll come back in the evening (it's open until 12a.m.). I made a dinner reservation at Tony's. I'm skeptical but for some reason in the mood to try it again.)

Saturday, March 31:
-Cocoa Beach (I want to get "sunkissed" and have lunch at a restaurant right on the beach.)
-Dinner at Greg's aunt and uncle's house. (We'll also visit with his cousin and wife.)
-Miniature golf at Winter Summerland (If time.)

Sunday, April 1:
-Typhoon Lagoon
-Late lunch at Beaches & Cream
-Drinks at Mizner's Lounge (Grand Floridian) (I want to listen to the piano player.)
-Dinner at Narcoossee's
-Drinks at 'Ohana's bar
-Watch wishes from the Polynesian beach

Monday, April 2:
-Epcot (I mainly want to walk (read DRINK) around the World Showcase. We have a dinner reservation at Les Chefs, too.)

Ughhhh...October 8 was our departure day, except we were in Epcot for a few hours and the rain was awful! I would call that torrential downpour, it did NOT let up, it was soooo annoying! We were so annoyed with the rain that we left for the airport so much earlier than we had to, just because we wanted to change out of our soaking wet clothes!

We've had fabulous weather in the past, so I think it was finally catching up with us. :) On our honeymoon, we didn't have any rain, on our xmas time trip later that same year we had one evening of rain (for MVMCP), and in 2010 we had NO rain.

We actually both said we didn't want to do ANY park days this trip, then Greg told me his top 3 things included Magic Kingdom. Well, if he gets to go to my favorite park, then I do too! :) and if you count Typhoon Lagoon, it's 3 parks.

Cake Boss update coming right up!!

Up until now, I was actually looking forward to finishing this TR! Then I started uploading the final batch of pictures to PhotoBucket and by stomach did a flip-flop. Just this morning I got really excited because I thought to myself, “I’ll be in Disney World this month!” While I’m excited and I look forward to getting to see a little bit more of Florida on this upcoming trip, we won’t be completely “immersed” in Disney as we were on this trip. Oh well, I need to finish and I promise this update will be exciting because it was an exciting day for us.

Sunday, October 9:

We woke up early and I was crossing my fingers that it would have stopped raining overnight. Wait, what’s that I hear? Rain? REALLY?! At least our morning plans wouldn’t be affected by the weather and I could only hope that the weather would get better as the day progressed. We got ready, put on our ponchos and slightly damp shoes and headed out to the bus stop to go to Epcot.

We’d be spending the morning here:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/514.jpg

The doors weren’t quite open yet but we only waited a few moments before a couple of CMs came to let us in. We had tickets to the Sweet Sunday event featuring Buddy Valastro aka THE Cake Boss! We had never done an even like this, nor had we ever been in the Festival Center so we had no idea what to expect. Check-in was actually easy and I’m glad we got there early as seating was assigned in a first come, first served manner.

This was where the event took place:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/482.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/483.jpg

This was our table:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/486.jpg

Front row, oh yeah! We walked around the Festival Center exploring and that’s when we found out that in order to guarantee a meet & greet/autograph with Buddy after the event, you needed to purchase his book and get one of 25 wristbands. Say what?! I booked it over to the gift shop and stood in line and missed getting the bracelet by two people! The guy in front of me was upset (not in an angry way) and we both said that we’d still get in line after the event anyway and hope for the best!

When it was time to be seated, this is what our table looked like:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/485.jpg

Before Buddy came out we were able to visit the buffet:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/488.jpg

OMG, everything on that plate was absolutely delicious but my favorite was the sausage patties and the French toast with homemade whipped cream and chocolate hazelnut sauce! What I wouldn’t do for a piece of that right now…

Before long, Buddy came out. Here’s some pictures from his demonstration:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/493.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/496.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/506.jpg

We also got served three desserts, made by Carlo’s Bakery:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/494.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/500-1.jpg

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/507.jpg

I can’t choose which dessert I liked best! The cannolis were absolutely amazing, they were so flavorful and smooth tasting. The frosting on the cupcake was out of this world and the chocolate cake was seriously like heaven on a plate.

We left full to say the least!!! It was totally worth the price and I’d love to do another event like this.

Well once we stood up we saw the crowd that had formed behind the fenced in area…they were booking it over to the meet and greet line. Oh no! I deserted Greg and didn’t stop until I was in the line. We got right behind the guy that I missed getting a wristband by *this much*. We chatted and hoped that Buddy would be nice enough to get through the line. Guess what? He stayed!

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/509.jpg

He was very friendly. He asked us where we were from and said that whenever he goes to Chicago he has to get an Italian sausage (or was it beef) sandwich!

We walked out of the Festival Center full and happy! We had an amazing brunch, got to meet the Cake Boss, got to taste desserts made by him (and his bakery staff) and we even got the recipes for those desserts! We also got to see his wife and youngest child (they were a few tables over). I know that this morning will be one of our greatest memories of Disney World. I just don’t think anything could have made it any better.

Up next: Will it ever stop raining? Epcot afternoon and It’s our last night in Disney World, what are we going to do???

Yeah, I can't even explain that cannoli. They use impastata, which is a creamier ricotta, and cinnamon oil instead of ground cinnamon and it makes all the difference in the world.

If Greg and I don't get to the World this fall, we'll definitely be there next fall! I'm really trying to work on scheduling a long weekend so we can go to F&W and MNSSHP!

Does my ticker really say 19 days until Orlando?! :scared1: I need to get to work b/c this is everything I still have left to do:

-Calculate misc. and food budget (I've honestly started this at least 3 different times but then I end up spending the time contemplating if I've made the right dining choices. Please tell me I'm not alone!)

-Print out directions (to hotel and back to airport, to massage, Cocoa & Daytona Beach and Greg's aunt's house) --> Our GPS and Florida don't particularly get along, it's a very rocky relationship. :lmao: I'm going to be prepared in hopes that it will save Greg and I from getting frustrated with each other.

-Make packing list (I swear that I'm going to just create one to use every trip that I can just add to/delete from when need be.)

-Go through toiletries and make list of what we need

-Print itinerary (it's nearly completed, I just need to input a few more addresses and such)

Luckily, I'm off this weekend and next so I'll have time to tackle this list!

I change ADRs ALL the time! And when it's a short trip, it's especially hard! I never feel like I've picked the right things!

I did that with my packing list! I made one master list and I just print it out every time we're going away some where. If it's not a Disney Trip, I just cross off all the Disney related items. It's so much easier than making a new list every time!

I don't blame you, I don't think kids would enjoy those type of events very much.

They do have mixology seminars and short cooking demonstrations that are low cost (I believe around $15), which wouldn't take up too much of your time with the girls but would be a lot of fun. :)

Sunday, October 9:

Well, this is it. The last update. :sad2: After 6 months and just two weeks before our next trip, I am finally finishing this TR. It’s bittersweet but it can’t be prolonged anymore.

When I last left off, Greg and I had just left the Festival Center after attending the Sweet Sunday Event featuring Buddy Valastro. I forgot to mention that Greg proceeded to say, “I’m Buddy and I’m the boss!” in a Jersey “accent” alllllll day. *Queue eyeroll*

Guess what we encountered upon exiting the Festival Center? SUN! No rain! :cool1: (We really were able to put our sunglasses on.) I was so happy. What should we do now that we have this coveted sunshine? Why, see Universe of Energy, of course!

We had never done this attraction before and since we were right near it, it only made sense to give it a try. We had some laughs but overall it was pretty boring and it didn’t seem to last as long as I thought. They made such a fuss about getting to your seat and staying there or saying that if you felt that you couldn’t sit for the duration of the ride to exit now. I wonder if they have problems with small children staying seated for the duration of the show.
Who knows??? :confused3

Once we said goodbye to Ellen, Greg wanted to do Test Track one more time so we debated over getting FPs but decided to hop in the single rider line as the wait time was listed as 25 minutes. Guess what? Disney math that day made 25 minutes = 45 minutes. UGH! :headache: I was not happy. Greg and I did end up in the same car, though. I also wrote in my notes that for some reason the car felt like it was going really fast this time.

At this point, we decided to say goodbye to Epcot for what we thought would be this trip and head back to Pop to do some packing before our dinner at Ohana and our evening at Magic Kingdom. Well, packing didn’t take very long, I tend to stay very organized for the duration of our trip. (Who am I kidding, I tend to stay organized in almost every aspect of my life.)

At this point, I was kicking myself for not getting a Food & Wine Fest cookbook. Greg said he wanted a Food & Wine Fest pin. Well, what are we to do? Head back to Epcot, of course! As soon as we had our souvenirs in hand, we were off to the Polynesian!

However, we were a *little* early. So early that they gave us the choice to wait as a walk-up (1.5 hours) or come back 30 minutes before our ADR time. We chose the latter and took the monorail over to the MK and grabbed FPs for Space.

As you can tell, the sunshine didn’t stick around for long, but the rain wasn’t being obnoxious.

We checked in and waited about 25 minutes before we were called to our table. We had a nice waitress and she was very attentive for the majority of the meal. The steak was particularly delicious and what I wouldn’t do for Ohana’s dessert right now! I wish there was somewhere else to get it besides Ohana. When it came time to get the check, it literally took 30 minutes. Our waitress disappeared and never even apologized! I was peeved. Anyway…

We headed back to the MK to ride those last few attractions before it was time to call it a night. We rode Pirates, Splash and Haunted Mansion:

We saw Philhar Magic:

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/520.jpg

Snagging a picture of this not so hidden Mickey may have also prompted the CM to remind us not to use flash photography. :rolleyes1 (The show hadn’t started yet, I promise!)

Then we rode Space and then we thought it was time for the park to close. SURPRISE! It’s EMH and I forgot! We rode People Mover and Buzz. I hit the 100,000 target! Woo hoo! Beat that, Greg. (He didn’t.)

http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/aa343/GRDAB/522.jpg

Oh yeah, it was ON!!!

As we made our way out of the park, Greg literally was in “attack” mode. Every single CM Greg saw, he asked to see his/her pins. We went in gift shops and saw the pin book at the Confectionary; he even went over to the stroller rental and asked to see the stroller (for about the third or fourth time this trip) and they told him no, they only take it out certain times of the day and
it had already been out. Poor guy!

So with one final farewell, we said goodbye to our happy place, promising to return before too long.

Monday, October 10:

Although this is a separate post, I'm still counting it as one large update. Our departure day wasn't very exciting but I do have a few food pictures to share:

We decided to have breakfast at Earl of Sandwich and spend some time browsing the shops in DTD. However, they must have had some power issue overnight as NONE of the stores had A/C. It was not fun. Especially when the line in the Christmas shop was forever long. There were so many cute things I wanted in the Christmas shop but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money. I want the advent calendar and the bell wreath but both are near $50 or more and I just couldn't do it. One day, though, those will be mine!!! :) Greg was still on a pin hunt this morning. If I saw a CM, I also saw Greg disappear. Oh, that boy. What did I create? :lmao:

Once we had enough of the mugginess both inside of the stores and out, we headed back to Pop and sat in the food court until it was time for the ME to pick us up.

Before we knew it, we were home. Home Sweet Home. I love going on vacation but I also love sleeping in my own bed.

This was our collection of souvenirs:

I actually think more of those things were for me, but it's also because Greg's pins (what few he bought) were expensive and he was all about the pin collection and didn't really care so much about anything else.

Overall, we had an amazing trip. If the biggest thing I could complain about was the rain, I think that's not very much to complain about at all!

I did jot down some notes shortly after the trip to reflect on things that we liked, would do differently and things that we didn't like:

1. I would have liked to use the dining plan. I like the prepayment. It takes a lot of stress out of the trip.

2. I wish we would have done more culinary demonstrations. Even the short, informal ones. I conside
r myself a foodie and they looked right up my alley.

3. I really liked Pop but the walk (we were in building 7) was far. The pillows aren't very comfortable and the room never got cold enough. If we stayed again, I'd pay extra for the preferred room.

4. The Dolphin was nice. Actually, I would rate it as the number two resort we've stayed at in Disney, only second to the Grand Floridian. The only thing I can complain about is the sink layout. There wasn't much room to keep my things organized in my travel bags. However, the bed was sooooo comfortable and the room was always nice and cold!

5. I seemed to grow more of a fondness for DHS this trip. I love the drawing class in particular and Starring Rolls has wonderful food. I think it's just me but the food in DHS seems to cost more than the other parks. It could just be because I don't feel that there's as much of a choice.

6. We LOVED Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

I'm just getting caught up! That is so neat that you got to meet the cake boss! I'm really hoping to do some of the demonstrations when we're at F&W this year. :thumbsup2 Love all the souvies! So glad you went back for the cookbook. I want one of those, too!

I can't believe it's the end. :sad1: It's always so sad when a TR has to end. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I have loved following along! :goodvibes I hope you'll be sharing your Orlando spring break! I can't believe it's so close!

We're back! We've been home since Tuesday afternoon but I've been swamped with work and it isn't going to let up anytime soon. It was like this before I left as well. I already need another vacation!

OMG! That bread pudding.

Even though we didn't eat at 'Ohana on this trip, I did get a bread pudding fix. Not the same but still pretty darn good! We went to Boma for breakfast and they had french toast bread pudding with banana foster sauce. OMG! It was sooooooooo good!

I am SO sorry! I totally missed your last update!

I would say overall, we had a pretty good trip, definitely not in our top 3, though. We experienced some pretty unmagicalness on our last day.
