Late 'Rail Ride From MK to Epcot Question

What are our transportation options if we should take the monorail from MK to Epcot to get 'home' to Dolphin but get to Epcot too late to be allowed to walk through to the International Gateway? Is there another footpath that will get us to the S/D-Boardwalk area, or do we have to hop a bus to somewhere else then transfer back to Dolphin. You can see I've been thinking too much about this trip!

If you're not going to get to EPCOT in time for Illuminations don't waste your time walking through the park, take a bus from MK to S/D. The way you want to go requires 2 monorails, a long walk through EPCOT and then a walk (or boat) from International Gateway to your hotel.

ONLY worth it if you're planning to get their early enough for dinner (or at least Illuminations).

I would not recommend this route, as more than likely, you will end up stranded. Once Epcot has closed its gates, the only way back to the Epcot Resorts is to take the Studios bus from Epcot, which only runs until 10pm. My advice would be to ride the monorail some other time, and just take the direct bus from the MK.
