Emerald Ash Tree Borer

I heard on the news yesterday that this insect is now devastating the Ash trees in Windsor. I am very worried about my beautiful 14 year old Ash tree, here in Woodstock which is about a 2 1/2 drive north of Windsor. The city has also planted Ash trees along our street, they are about 4 or 5 years old and would be much easier to replace. No wood products are allowed to leave Windsor and I do hope they are able to contain the infestation. :(

I hadn't heard of this Julie, until I read your post. I certainly hope they can find a way to eradicate this pest, but from what I've just been reading they don't seem to have very much information on it. :(

I found this pic of the channels that the beetle chews through the wood. The bark was stripped by squirrels who have apparently developed a taste for the larvae!

Yes, Kim, they showed a damaged tree, just like your pic, on the news and the trunk was covered with all those curvy channels, which went right around the tree under the bark, gradually killing it. A tell-tale sign is a D-shaped hole in the bark, where the insect has exited. I didn't know about the squirrels liking the larvae.
