View Full Version : PBH - Deluxe Pool View...is this right? (Kelly M. please read too!)
After reading another post about the concierge service being discontinued at PBH (except the butler villas) I became concerned. About 4 weeks ago I booked a deluxe poolview after being told by a person in reservations that this is what was the villa rooms (concierge) were. They just changed the name of the rooms but all the amenities were the same.
Well, after reading a post this morning I became concerned. This is what I learned. Deluxe poolview are the former Villa rooms. However, there is no longer a concierge lounge. At checkin I will receive a refund of $100 per nite and room service is complimentary. I have the name of the person I spoke with and the name of the Lead Coach (head reservationist) that he spoke with.
Can anyone confirm this?
It's our 10th anniv and we wanted something special!
Thanks
Cora:p

Hi Cora, sorry I was the bearer of bad news. DH and I celebrated our 15th anniversary at PBH last June and had a great time. We had initially booked a Villa room (having stayed in one the previous November), and then it was discountinued before our trip. We did get bumped up to a Butler Villa, but we hardly used them. I don't know what your rate is but $100 off a nite sounds like a decent deal. For special things to do, we did a Spa package which included a couples massage. Very nice. You could also rent a Cabana for the day while hanging out at the Villa pool. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Another great move by the PBH to not tell people in advance and then hit you while you are already there with nothing to do about it. WAY TO GO PBH

This is a case of someone giving Cora wrong information. The "concierge" designation was dropped a year ago, so it's not that she wasn't told in advance since it had already happened, but someone in reservations giving her very outdated information.
I'm curious which reservations staff you spoke with (Universal, Loews, Portofino, other?). It's always an adventure making reservations because of the myriad of prices and availability you can find at the HRH and PBH through different sources. One place will have one set of rates and availability and another a totally different set ...
You are right I was given outdated info. However, I was pleased that I didn't even need to ask for the names of the person I was speaking to or that he spoke to, right away he said "take the Lead's name and mine!"
Let's see...I spoke with Universal staff each time because we booked a package. However, something is nagging at me...I think I also may have spoken with a PBH person too, but I'm not quite sure.
If anyone has stayed in the deluxe pool view recently please let me know what level of service you received!

Don't worry Cora, the PBH is a very romantic place no matter which room you're in. My dh and I were there last november and we had an incredible time.
Let me know if you'd like to hear about our favorite romantic/couple activities.

Cora, I'm not quite sure what you mean by level of service with a DPV room, since it would be the same service as a Bay or garden view. I've stayed at PBH 3 times and the service has been anywhere from good to outstanding. Our last stay this past January, we had booked 2 DPV and got upgraded to a Hospitality Suite overlooking the VIlla pool. I've found that the service has improved as the hotel matures. The DPV rooms are beautiful and nhrenee is right, it is a very romantic place.
were the wrong words to choose. I would like to know, if they are crediting the $ and do you get complimentary room service. Thanks for clarifying!
Also, nhrenee, I'd love to hear what you did!

Well, that doesn't surprise ...
Universal is totally incompetent in my experience.
I booked my first PBH stay with them over the phone. On the good side they gave me some ridiculous rate I'm pretty sure I wasn't entitled too ($111/night), which was good, but incompetent. On the bad side they misspelled my name so when I got to the hotel they couldn't find my reservation for about twenty minutes, until they realized the mistake.
My next stay, at the HRH, was also booked through Universal, but on the web. When I got to the hotel they discovered my reservation was for a week or so after what I reserved (had the web print out to prove it). This after I faxed them a confirmation a few days before leaving. (That stay was the week after they opened, and I got a great rate of $165/night inclusive of taxes, and Universal was not enforcing the three night minimum stay like all the other places I checked).
Anyway, I've learned to avoid Universal reservations whenever possible ... unfortunately with sometimes lower prices and sometimes less restrictions (minimum stay length), you're forced to use 'em ... I go through Loews reservations now whenever possible, they are so much better ...

Cora,
We were just there this weekend, we had the deluxe pool view, it was wonderful. Yes it is in the villa area, but there is not any concierge. You will love the room anyway, and I am sure your anniversary will still be very special. There was a group of prom kids eating on the third floor patio of the delfino riviera restaurant...you may want to look into this...it looked very romantic...the patio overlooks the bay, it was sunset...very very nice!
